Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:04 And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 is big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Now let's get this party started. listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, here we go. It is a Thursday. Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd. Wherever you may be, and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. J. Mack, joining me as always.
Starting point is 00:02:16 He loves the next three or four days because it's March Madness. He's a college basketball diehard. So I'm going to do what I know Jason's going to do. Go home after the show. Crack open a beer and sit and watch college hoops for about eight hours. That would be the plan, but I got a bunch of buddies who are like, we got to watch this at a bar. I'm like, can you find a bar where I can bring my dog? That need has been met.
Starting point is 00:02:39 So a lot of consuming NCAA tournament and Aaron Rogers questions over the next 40 hours. So let's start with that. I don't necessarily agree with all his political stances, but there's a Canadian psychologist named Jordan Peterson. And he has a belief, and I tend to believe this too, is that you can't totally be an adult, a grown-up, until you love somebody more than yourself. And this psychologist believes, and I do too, that to really be a grown-up, it's not the only way to be an adult, but it's certainly impactful in your development as a human being. You're married, you have kids, anybody who's had kids, the minute you have a kid, you find out
Starting point is 00:03:23 that your love for that child is so much greater than the narcissism and love for yourself. So again, Jordan Peterson, I may not agree with them on some climate opinions, but I will say that I agree there that you have to love somebody greater than yourself. That is one of the first signs. Young people tend to be selfish and self-absorbed, and many adults are, but that gets you to the next level. So let me pivot into Aaron Rogers' appearance yesterday on YouTube. His words, he went into the retreat, his words, not mine. 90% sure he was going to retire. He said, I got to admit, I went into the darkness, 90% retiring, 10% playing.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Okay, his words. He was also surprised his words that when he came out, Green Bay had decided, you know, we're going to go with Jordan Love. Let's make a trade happen for you. And he was surprised by that. his words, how could you be surprised by that? If you're the most important person in your world. If you were married, let's say,
Starting point is 00:04:36 think maybe your wife would say, honey, the season ended eight weeks ago. They've made you rich. They've made us rich. They've given us a great life. You probably should give them a heads up. If you had kids, maybe your son says, Dad, I love the Packers.
Starting point is 00:04:50 You're not going to leave the Packers. Maybe you'd feel some guilt. Give him an answer either way. But if you're the most important person in your life, you just run on your clock and you are Mr. Independent and I'll do what I want on my time. And Aaron thinks he's the smartest adult and I'm questioning this morning if he's an adult. If you're the most important person in your life and you don't sacrifice, then you are surprised when you come out of a retreat that you went into at 90% retiring and you're surprised Green Bay said we want to move on. Now I am I am now not his words but I am guessing that he had to give Green Bay a heads up that he was strongly considering retirement. I mean he's a jerk if he didn't if I was going to leave Fox for retirement and didn't give him a heads up I'm a jerk so I'm going to say Aaron's not a jerk if you're going to leave your wife suddenly in the middle of the night you're a schmuck so I would assume she has a heads up if you're going to leave.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I'm going to assume Aaron's not a jerk and that Green Bay had some sense of his impending decision would lean heavily into retirement. I'll assume he's a decent human being. But he's surprised. Let me ask you, if I told one of my bosses, radio TV or my wife, listen, I'm 90% into leaving you. I'm going to go in a retreat for four or five days by myself. When I come back, I'll be closer to a decision.
Starting point is 00:06:17 You think I'd be surprised if my wife. fan said, hey pal, hit the road. Or if my box bosses upstairs said, you know, we found another guy, we really like him or another woman. They're going to host the show. The only surprise is Aaron is surprised. That's how self-centered and diluted he apparently is, that he can't believe that people he's been stringing along who he was threatening retirement to would move on as Mr. We'll Do Things on My Clock totally dictated terms last several years. Here's another one. And again, when you're the most important person in your life, you demand things from others because nobody calls you on your BS. His quote here yesterday, his words again, my only demand is for transparency.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Yet he never provides any. Two separate Green Bay Packers on offense have told me since the Super Bowl, they have no idea what he's doing. What about transparency? Again, when you're the most important person in your life, and maybe haven't become a true adult yet. You demand things from others that you don't provide for them. His teammates are guessing. The Packers are guessing. The fans are guessing. But he wants transparency.
Starting point is 00:07:35 That's the one thing. Not my words, his. He was 90% retiring. Not my words, his. He was surprised when they booted him when he came out. Not my words. His. mirror, Aaron, they're in the bathroom, staring it.
Starting point is 00:07:52 It's very perceptive with those lasers and that wit and that acumen pointing fingers. Listen to yourself. 90% retirement going in and surprised when Green Bay said, hit the road, champ, we're exhausted. Would any of you be surprised? Your bosses, your wife, people tired of you stringing along? year after year? That's surprising.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I don't have to agree with Jordan Peterson on anything other than once you become something beyond yourself, then you're officially an adult. Anthony Davis is an adult for the Lakers, but he's an adult that even when he's pain free doesn't play basketball. So Richard Jefferson called out the Lakers yesterday. the Lakers lost to the worst team arguably in the league, the Houston Rockets. Houston Rockets are young, they're awful, they're actively tanking. And yet, despite being one of the worst teams in the league,
Starting point is 00:08:59 they scored 78 points in the paint. And they had 62 points at half against the Lakers. They dominated the inside. Why? Because Anthony Davis couldn't play. Load management, even though he was pain free. And Richard Jefferson called out the Lakers in AD. When a coach says that a player is pain free, but we're still going to keep him out.
Starting point is 00:09:25 Again, if you're media managing, if you're telling me that he's not having pain, if he has some soreness on the off day, if there's, you know, and again, there's still probably some reaction if you're talking about a stress reaction. It's a stress reaction. So they're like, we're not going to overload it. I get it. But it's like, if you have pain, if you are pain free, then I just get confused. And I'm not a doctor, so I'm not being critical here.
Starting point is 00:09:47 just hear it and I'm like, I just don't understand. What's the old saying? People will show you who they are. Just believe them. So it's okay to be as a Laker fan frustrated with AD. It's not necessarily his decision. It is a upstairs executive management decision. So what the Lakers are telling you is going forward, this is how we deal with AD. And if the Lakers are going to run this back, they deserve to be a non-playoff team. LeBron year 21 and load management AD. That's what the Lakers are telling us.
Starting point is 00:10:23 They're telling the fans. They're telling the media. This is how heads up. This is how AD is going to be used going forward. So I looked this morning. The last five years, this is the new reality for AD. He plays 48 games a year. And they've now pivoted to he will sit out games when he's pain free.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Okay. So LeBron now going into years. or 21 next year, where he's given us 50 games a year, AD now given us 47 games a year, and AD and the Lakers have now pivoted to he's also going to sit out pain-free nights. If you run this back, you deserve not making the playoffs. By the way, I'm not blaming AD. It's his body, although he should take better care of it. He came in out of shape three years ago.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So some of this is on AD. He, you know, they joke about his dad body all the time within the organization. He's not a grinder. He's not a guy that lives in the weight room. Your body treats you how you treat your body. It's why you can see 50-year-old people that are falling apart physically and 60-year-old people, 70-year-old people who are in great shape. Your body will treat you like you treat your body.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And 80 doesn't treat his body that great. So some of this is on him. But he's not 37, 38 years old. He's 30. He just turned 30. So the Lakers, for a player that just turned 30, have now pivoted to there's nights we're not going to play him
Starting point is 00:11:51 when he's pain free. Okay. People tell you who they are, believe him. You can be mad as a Laker fan. What you should be mad about is if they run this nonsense back. Don't be mad about this. This is to help the player. You know, they sat him against a bad O KC team.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Didn't hurt him. They sat him against an awful Rockets team. It did hurt him. 78 points in the paint? You ain't getting that with AD. If AD's on the floor, you're not scored 78. in the paint. So, again, you can be mad about last night, but be really mad if they run it back and tell you it's got a chance to be a championship team. No, it doesn't. No, it does not.
Starting point is 00:12:35 All right. By the way, March Madness starts. The good games are later later today. I've got Duke winning, nine straight wins, only lost once all year, weak bracket, weak side. I got Duke winning, beating Gonzaga, who you got? Wow, Cowherd, that's exactly what I have in one of my brackets. Now, I'm in nine different bracket pools. I know you are. Six different champions in those nine. It's going to be a crazy tournament.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Duke could be in trouble against Orel Roberts in the first round. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not even kidding. Okay, O'Roll Roberts is a veteran team. They got one of the best scores in the nation who beat Ohio State in the first round two years ago. Just be careful with Duke, folks. I like them as well. I have them going places, but Cowherd, you're going to have a sweat in the first.
Starting point is 00:13:17 I guarantee you. I can't wait. They've taken money. Oral Roberts has taken money. I think it was eight down to seven. Yeah. Could go to six and a half. I'm excited.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Just be careful with that. There's no being, tonight is crack open a beer, put my legs up, watch hoops. Let me just say this. If Arizona makes a run, you're going to see a smile on my face
Starting point is 00:13:34 for several days, several days. You have them winning multiple brackets? Let's just say I'm heavily committed. I did a Calcutta last night in our group. We spent, you know, five figures on Arizona. Oh, that's a lot dope.
Starting point is 00:13:46 It's a big one. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'll say it. Yep, that's me, Clipper Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
Starting point is 00:14:43 And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand-new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream,
Starting point is 00:15:15 this is right where you need to be. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at a podcast. I'm Sam Jette. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:15:59 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:16:18 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You're now entering the no bull zone sponsored by credible great rates. None of the Bull. So for years, the New England Patriots were viewed as the smartest team in the NFL. On the field, off the field, during the season, off season. They were just smarter than everybody else.
Starting point is 00:16:43 We never viewed them as the most talented team. Those Rannie Moss teams actually never won a Super Bowl. Those were arguably their most talented teams, I thought. But they were always smart, the way they worked the cap, the way they didn't have to draft guys in the first or second round, but always had great offensive lines. Maybe now the Kansas City Chiefs have become that. So I've been banging on the Patriots for three years that they're tone deaf offensively. They have no sensibility. They don't get it.
Starting point is 00:17:10 That was obviously clear last year when they made. a defensive coordinator, the offensive coordinator. Bill Belichick is all defense all the time, has no feel at all for offense. So Ju-Jew Smith-Schuster, the Pittsburgh Steelers, a stable organization that has always been willing Mike Tomlin to deal with some drama, A, B, Big Ben for years, Levy and Bell. They bailed on Juju, the TikTok king. They bailed on him. Too silly, too immature. The Chiefs smartly said, well, you're talented. We'll bring you in for a one-year deal. We won't pay you, but we'll give you a incentive-laden contract.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Like $7.5 million was just incentives. Two-and-a-half million was actual salary. They didn't pay him anything. What did he do? He was productive. He played with urgency. He was very good. So did the chiefs resign him?
Starting point is 00:18:02 Hell no. Let him walk. The Patriots stepped in to give him a three-year deal. silly, brand, loyal, tick-tock, obsessed, Juju Smith-Shooster. This is the kind of deal the Patriot fans would have laughed at years ago. Other teams being the sucker. It was New England that would use a distracted player with talent for a year,
Starting point is 00:18:30 get the most out of him, always move off guys right before they were a pain in the butt. The Chiefs used ju-ju, pay him nothing, all bonuses, He hits on a lot of them, then say, see ya, great. We're going to go draft guys that are really into football. And the suckers come roaring down the street in New England, totally out of touch offensively, and give distracted Juju Smith-Schuster. He can't separate. He's a number three receiver.
Starting point is 00:18:55 That's what he is. By the way, simultaneously letting go of their own player undrafted Jacobi Myers. So last year, look at the numbers. Juju Smith-Schuster, that's with Andy Reid, real offensive coordinator and Patrick Mahomes put up numbers that were identical to Jacobi Myers. And they bailed on Jacobi Myers, who did nothing but work hard, totally focused, not into TikTok, not into his brand, just into being a great NFL player. They bailed on that and signed the constantly, perpetually, habitually distracted Judeo Smith-Schuster. Patriots, you laughed at team.
Starting point is 00:19:39 teams that did that years ago. You laughed at him. You rolled your eyes. Suckers is what they were. When you look around the poker table and you can't find the mark, you're the mark. New England's now the mark at the poker table. Kansas City, as the culture has changed, totally in tune. They can bring rookies in, guys off the street.
Starting point is 00:20:01 This year, they won a Super Bowl with three receivers who were cast-offs from other teams and a rookie sky more. I mean, New England has, they are completely utterly out of touch on offense, even with their own personnel. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. It's kind of nice that someone is, someone besides the Jets is on the end of the jokes in the AFC East.
Starting point is 00:20:30 I like taking some shots there at the Patriots. Calling Bill Belichick a mark. You tell me. You tell me. No, you're right. Yeah. Jacobi Myers comes in, not making a nickel, three years in a row, leading receiver, not paying him a nickel. Hard work, he is the Patriot way.
Starting point is 00:20:48 They bail on that because the kid's like, you know, I want to get paid. And you're going to bring in Mr. Disracting. Almost the same contracts. Very similar. Very weird. And by the way, Jujoo, that was with Mahomes, Travis Kelsey next to him, an O.C. Those are the numbers he produced. Doesn't make sense.
Starting point is 00:21:04 All right. Let's start with this gentleman named Aaron Roger. Obviously, you know, he is announced he wants to kind of play for the Jets, his intention is. But apparently the Raiders were in the mix for Aaron Rogers. He said this on the YouTube show yesterday. I think there were other teams that were interested in obviously there's certain players I have a lot of love and affinity for Devante Adams. And reuniting with especially one specific person would have been special. I'm not mentioning any names, but there's definitely one particular guy.
Starting point is 00:21:34 him and I have this special unspoken rapport. If there's anybody that I wanted to put on a demand list, if you can incorporate any person across the league, it would be this specific person. He's obviously talking about Devante Adams and the Raiders, but Josh McDaniels and company went with Jimmy Garoppolo. Aaron has said the list was nonsense. So again, taking him at his word,
Starting point is 00:21:59 I did homework on the list. Aaron did not put Mercedes-Lewis on the list. the list. Hackett did. So Hackett loves Mercedes-Louis. The homework I did is that anytime Mercedes-Louis's name ended up on a list, that was going to be more Hackett going to the jet saying, get me that. OBJ, I've also been told that Aaron didn't make any demands on OBJ. He likes him, would love to have him. Hey, if you can find a space for him. But now, Alan Lazard, that was, Aaron wanted to bring one of his guys over. And Lazard, by the way, in fairness to Aaron, Aaron wants to be comfortable with somebody. I mean, Brady brought over Gronk.
Starting point is 00:22:43 Yeah. So I don't have a problem. Well, Brunk was retired. And he was able to lure him out. Yeah, I don't have a problem with Peyton Manning, Aaron Rogers, Brady Russell, Wilson saying, hey, there's this one receiver man. He's my guy. So I'm not going to beat up on Aaron for Alan Lazard. I think he's a very nice number three receiver. He's a big body. Alan's a nice player. I'd love to have him on my team. So I'm not going to beat up on Aaron. I'm be fair on this. Mercedes-Lewis was not an Aaron demand. OBJ, from what I'm told, Aaron likes him, but it wasn't a demand. I do think Alan Lazzard was something Aaron wanted. And the Jets said,
Starting point is 00:23:16 hey, man, this is one we're going to go get for you. Because I do think Alan Lazzard's a nice acquisition by the Jets. I think he's a good player. So let me ask about the Raiders. They decided to go with a cheaper quarterback, Jimmy Garapolo, who's going to be there for several years instead of a one year, maybe two-year band-aid in Aaron Rogers. What say you about that Raiders decision? Think before you speak, because you know who I'm talking about when I say Raiders. The jets are opting for Aaron Rogers over Carr, over Garoppolo. Continue.
Starting point is 00:23:46 So what are you saying? Well, the Raiders decided we could have Aaron Rogers for a year or we could get Jimmy Garoppolo for multiple years. Somebody's going to be in our system. We know we can count on him. If things go sideways one year, hey, we got the next year. We're locked in. they didn't want
Starting point is 00:24:00 by all accounts he wanted to play with devante adams and the raiders it sounds like we're like well i would have chosen aaron rogers over jeremy garablo again i think i'm i think i am absolutely the fairest person in the american media on aaron rogers i'd vote in first ballot hall of fame it doesn't bother me that he pushes back on media
Starting point is 00:24:17 i don't think the list after doing homework is entirely of erin rogers making but i think he's deluded if he's surprised his words that green bay said we're done with you out of the eight and a half weeks, nine weeks of not giving them a heads up, stringing them along, then I think he's deluded and deserves massive criticism because those are his words. I'm 90% retirement and I'm surprised they said we're done with you. Dude, you're deluded. I wonder if Josh McDaniels said to his front office, hey guys, I don't want a year of crazy,
Starting point is 00:24:49 a year of distractions. We live in Vegas already. Enough crazy around us. Let's go for safe, smart, reliable. Players love him. Let's go for Jimmy Garoppolo. Well, we were surprised. We were when Brady left New England how small the market was. So why are we surprised that Aaron Rogers leaves how small the market is? Brady was a little bit older, wasn't he? Like, 30? Yeah, but you got none of this distraction stuff, totally committed. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:11 So what it's showing you is when the, by the way, why are we surprised there's no market for Lamar Jackson? There's no, I mean, seriously, everybody says what about the market for Lamar Jackson? There wasn't a market for Brady. There wasn't a big market for Aaron Rogers. There wasn't a big market for Lamar Jackson. because in all three cases there was something to be concerned about. Brady's age,
Starting point is 00:25:34 Rogers' commitment, and Lamar's injuries. Well, have you talked to your Colts people lately? I talked to every, I talked to, I talked to two GMs yesterday at length and a head coach and a scouting director. Because there are rumblings that the Colts are making some quiet salary cap moves and there's some wonder, hey, we're not going to get the guy we won the top of the draft. Maybe the Colts make a play here. I would just keep an eye on it.
Starting point is 00:25:56 I don't know a low simmer on the back of the oven. Just keep an eye on maybe the Colts in them. Because they got no quarterback. They got nothing. They just dump Matt Ryan. They're picking fourth, I believe. Pretty good place to pick. But we said yesterday the top two quarterbacks are going to be going.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Maybe they get Stroud? By the way, if you're picking four, you're going to get either, in my opinion, because I think you're on to something, you're going to get C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young. What about Will Levis? Wouldn't Young go second to Houston? I think Will Levis. is talented, but I would take C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young over Will Levis. I would. Would you draft C.J. Stroud or would you rather go for Lamar Jackson?
Starting point is 00:26:40 Well, I would rather have Lamar Jackson. Remember now, this is something to think about. I'm glad you brought this up. Well, actually, I brought it up. So with Brady, Aaron, and Lamar, there appears to be kind of a smaller market that we would all think. They all had an issue. Age, commitment. and injuries. But it also speaks to something. As football has become, this is sort of a reality of the league, as the NFL had to pay almost a billion dollars for CTE into concussions.
Starting point is 00:27:12 The NFL has created a lot of safety measures. The game is now less violent, more offense. Meaning the quarterbacks are more valuable. Meaning the quarterbacks are now making what teams used to pay the entire roster. Meaning Brady was expensive. Rogers expensive. Lamar's expensive, as we've driven the price up for quarterbacks if you don't have a Mahomes and there's like one on the planet.
Starting point is 00:27:40 Teams now, I think, are thinking the Jason McIntyre theory, which is hell with it. Let's just load our roster up and draft a quarterback every year until we find a Brock Purdy. Because it's very clear the only way to win Super Bowls in the NFL right now last 10 years. You have a superstar quarterback, Brady Mahomes. or you have a loaded roster for a Jared Goff, a Jalen Hertz, a Brock Purdy. That ensures lots and lots of wins and a high probability of getting to a conference championship. What you can't have is an expensive 11th best quarterback in the league. And right now, people are wondering, is Aaron a top seven guy?
Starting point is 00:28:19 No. Is Lamar injuries? No, because you've got to consider injuries. If you're not available, you're not... Before he went down this season, before the injury, he was definitely top seven. kick-out. He went down this season. Let's live in the real world. Let's live in the real world. Aaron hasn't been fully committed. He's now 39. So there's only two ways to consistently win a Super Bowl or get there. Superstar, Mahomes, Brady, or don't pay your quarterback anything.
Starting point is 00:28:45 He has to be pretty good and then you just stack the roster. So I think when you get these Lamar with injuries and Aaron with commitment, a lot of people are like, the market shrivels up very quickly. Yeah. All right. Let's go to the Eagles. briefly. They got good news finally. They're hemorrhaging talent, but their number one quarterback, Darius Big Place Slay. They were going to release him. He basically, you know, it was all going to happen. Suddenly they found the cap money to save him. So Darius Slay's very excited to be back like I never left. Ha, ha ha, he wrote on social media, run it back. That's good news for the Eagles. So they're keeping Bradbury and they're keeping Slay. That's very good news.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Those are great corners. It was looking like they were going to lose six or seven defense starters. I didn't understand it. I thought Darius Slay is one of their three best defensive players. I didn't get it. And a sneaky other good move they had was they lose Miles Sanders, the running back, replace him with Rashad Penny. Now, he's had some injury issues, but holy hell, when he's healthy, that guy's fast and explosive. If you're a Seahawk fan, though, Rashad Penny drives you crazy. So he was a reach in the first round.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Because I think Nick Chubb, same draft went second round, if I recall, I could be wrong, but he was a reach in round one. But he was never available. And so if you're a Seahawk fan, you hate to see him go, because, When he was healthy, he is so good after contact. And he's got real, like, burst home run speed. Oh, yeah. He's just not a bit.
Starting point is 00:30:04 So he's a real enigma. Yeah. When he's healthy, he's fantastic. But now the Seahawks have the kid from Michigan State at running back. So they don't need. Yeah. They got their home run guy. What they need now is, you know, DJ Dallas, their backup guys.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, final story. We'll just get to this briefly. But the NBA announced yesterday, John Morant got an eight-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league. after that incident with Instagram Live where he had a gun randomly in Denver. He's already missed two of the games
Starting point is 00:30:38 and he's eligible to return Monday against the Masl. I'm sorry, he's missed six. So he really can return next week. Yeah. Colin? I pointed this out on social media when he was in a counseling facility. He might lose out on $37 million if he's not an all-NBA player.
Starting point is 00:30:56 He hasn't played enough games to be voted all-N-Ba player. He's having an all NBA season. Interesting that... He got sucked in to the life. Well, I just, I find it very interesting that he was in a counseling facility Monday. NBA suspends him Wednesday. And now we're hearing he's going to be back on Monday. That's a quick turnaround.
Starting point is 00:31:14 He's doing like a PR blitz apologizing. I'm not that guy. Blah, blah, blah. John Moran's going to be back sooner than we all thought. It sounded like he was going to be done for the regular season. And now suddenly, he's coming back. A lot of money on the table for John Moran. Anyway, here's what you said.
Starting point is 00:31:28 What are you stipulating? What are you insinuating? I don't want to go too much into it. It feels like the league said, we don't feel we can take 37 million from a young kid. Let's get him back to play. Well, and I think the Grizzlies, too, kind of need him. They're starting to free fall. Let's just hear what John Morant said to Jalen Rose yesterday.
Starting point is 00:31:47 It's not who I am. I don't condone in any type of violence. But I take full responsibility from my actions. And I can see the end. image that I painted over myself with my recent mistakes. In the past, we didn't know what was that state. And now, finally, me having that time to realize everything, have that time alone, I realize that now.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I realize, you know, what I have to lose. I can't wait to be back out there on the floor now, knowing what my punishment is. And I accept that. And I feel like I deserve that punishment for my mistakes and what I did. Can I defend him here? Go ahead. Maybe I'm on an island. He got sucked into the life.
Starting point is 00:32:32 I've seen this. I got kids. You get sucked into social media. You get sucked into stuff. He's a young kid. Ask yourself this. When you were 22 years old, if somebody gave you $40 million and made you an internet star. Girls, money, fame.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Think you could get sucked in? Like, I feel bad for him. Now, it's all on him. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve punishment. But this is not the NFL. where kids come into the league with four and five years in college. The two best players in this draft aren't even playing in college. You're getting babies that cannot drink at the hotel bar.
Starting point is 00:33:08 They're like 19. He got sucked into the lifestyle. Alcohol, fame, guns, crowd. It's like, there's part of me. I know I'm a softie here. No, no, you're right. Part of me is like, it's hard for young people when they get, it's hard for 50-year-olds. I mean, you've heard the term midlife crisis where a 50-year-old guy starts driving a Maserati
Starting point is 00:33:31 and cheating on his wife with some, you know, young person. That happens to a 50-year-old man. So if a 19-year-old kid gets the world served to him, some of these kids aren't ready for it emotionally. I wouldn't have been ready for it. I don't know if I'm not into guns, but I wouldn't have been ready for it. I'll just say the Jom Morant Image Rehab team did a really nice job there. You know, he's got a big sponsorship with a certain swoosh brand. And if you look at the interview, very proud, swoosh and the jacket and the jewelry tucked in, not flexing anything.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Good job by them. They're going to get him back on the court. And I'm rooting for John. I know what I just said. He's one of the planet's greatest athletes. Yeah, I will say some of the sideline celebrations that he's done and the Grizzlies talking a lot of trash. Dellen Brooks, they're going to have to dial that back. Leagues looking at them.
Starting point is 00:34:18 They have a target on their back now. Golden State, Dallas. The league is better when John. Morant's plan. 100%. And the West, which is goofy anyway, needs John Morant because Memphis is good. Yeah. People make mistakes.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Young people make more. When you heap a bunch of stuff. I made a lot. I made many. Oh, God. The 20s, I'd like to just scratch it off. It never existed. Aren't you happy social media did not exist when you were young?
Starting point is 00:34:44 I could never. Now, again, I'm not a gun guy. But I would have been closing bars and doing stupid stuff. Yeah. And I was doing that when I was a sportscaster making nothing. You were doing that last week, weren't you? Yeah, I mean, it's, I know. So I think I've gotten less judgmental, especially to young people as of age,
Starting point is 00:35:06 because I've seen it. I've dealt with it. It's hard. You know, it used to be able, you could party and nobody knew about it. Now you're being gassed up all the time. You the man, you're great. You'd get that occasionally if you went out. Now you get it all day.
Starting point is 00:35:18 You get the criticism, the love all day. And you open your, you open your, you open your, phone from your pocket and you say all these people you're a man. 80 models are like, let's hook up and 80 guys, let's go out. I'll buy you this. Jump on the private jet. It's a lot. It's a lot.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Listen, you and I know. It's tough to just say no sometimes. You got to just push back and be like, thank you, but no thanks. It's hard. All right. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:35:44 The herd line news. I always believe this. People without options always criticize people with options. It is easy to sit on your, you know, at the podcast. podium and go, I can't believe you did this, this, this. When you're never offered beautiful women, cash, private jets parties, it's easy to say, I can't believe you did that. John Morant was getting every offer DM'd all day.
Starting point is 00:36:07 He got sucked in. It happens. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, I'm Doug Gottlie. The podcast is called All Ball. We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's more about the story. about what made these people love their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way.
Starting point is 00:36:28 We talk to coaches, we talk to players, we tell you stories. You download it, you listen to it, I think you like it. Listen to All Ball with Doug Alib on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:37:17 Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skisks. hits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
Starting point is 00:37:43 One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
Starting point is 00:38:23 I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little camp? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we picket here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
Starting point is 00:38:41 waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you're not. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:02 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. KU's door. Back with the Bloodline and on a collision course with Sammy Zane. Plus, after a controversial outcome, Drew McIntyre and Seamus Clash to find out who will face Goodther at WrestleMania.
Starting point is 00:39:27 And all new Friday night Smackdown, live at 8 Eastern 7th Central tomorrow night on Fox. So yesterday, Jay Mack and I tried to predict what the over-unders were going to be now. The Jets have Aaron Rogers, though not official, and the Packers have moved off Aaron Rogers to Jordan Love. Our numbers were pretty darn close. The over under on the Jets with Aaron Rogers would now be over 10. I would bet the under on that. I think the Jets will be an 8 or a 9 win team with Aaron Rogers, especially if the Packers keep dragging this thing out.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Also, the Packers over under is, to me, way too low at 7.5. So remember, schedules and the quarterbacks you face can determine a lot. So Green Bay gets lucky and faces the NFC South as one of their combatants next year. That means three bad quarterbacks and Derek Carr with a lousy defensive head coach, lousy Dennis Allen to this point in his career. So here's the quarterbacks that Jordan Love would face. Justin Fields two times, Desmond Ritter, Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield, or Kyle Trask, whoever Carolina drafts, Kenny Pickett, Jimmy Garoppolo. That's eight right there.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Not only that, Russell Wilson, certainly beatable. Kirk Cousins, Jared Gough, four times combined. Now, let's just put down Mahomes as a loss and Stafford, if he's available as a loss. And Justin Herbert, it is the Chargers, but that's a loss. You could be 14 and 13. I don't think you're going to win all those games, but 7.5 is low. This idea Green Bay is going to capsize. Remember, they're probably getting the Jets first round pick with Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:41:11 There's a story today. Green Bay ain't moving until they get a first round pick. Not multiple, but one. And I think that's incredibly fair. That would give them two first round picks in the middle of the first round. Well, Green Bay doesn't whiff on first round picks. They draft and develop top five in the NFL. Two first round picks for Green Bay?
Starting point is 00:41:33 Those are two starters very quickly. So it's also much easier to navigate the NFC. And I'll give you an example of what the NFC is. Now, I'm not saying Jordan Love is 45-year-old Tom Brady. but last year at 45, 46 years old, Brady, with the worst run game in the league, a defensive head coach had multiple wins with a single touchdown pass. In fact, Brady won five games last year. This is with no run game, with a passer rating under 90.
Starting point is 00:42:07 So if Jordan Love is an 87, 88 passer rating guy with a much better run game than Brady had and a much easier schedule, potentially. He can't win eight games. Hell, they only won eight games with Aaron Rogers last year. So this idea, there's this massive pressure to replace Aaron Rogers. Aaron didn't make the playoffs. Aaron's been a postseason disappointment last three or four years, last three years. So it's not like you're, you know, you're not replacing Mahomes or, you know, somebody
Starting point is 00:42:38 Joe Burrow that leaves awake. You're replacing the guy. The city was tired of. of the teams moving on from with a schedule with eight average quarterbacks. You know, Jimmy Garoppolo is better than average, but not a ton. Desmond Ritter, Justin Fields, Daniel Jones, Kyle Trass, Baker, Mayfield, a rookie in Carolina, Kenny Pickett. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:43:02 So I think the Jets at 10 feels a little high for me. I would bet the under on that. They may hit 10, but I think it feels like an under, seven and a half for Green Bay. Does it not feel a little low? Well, I just looked at 2022, and what did the Packers do last year? They had losses to. Are you ready for this? Taylor Heineke, Daniel Jones over in London, and they lost at home to whoever the Jets
Starting point is 00:43:27 had at quarterback. I believe it was Zach Wilson. So they're going to be going down in quarterback from Aaron Rogers to Jordan Love. The defense last year was a catastrophe. We know they were highly rated going into the season. They had some injuries. Jaya Alexander played poorly. So I don't think you could automatically say, like, this is a team that could win nine games.
Starting point is 00:43:48 Okay. But at eight, they wouldn't make the playoffs. Is it, don't you think it's a pretty good bet with the stability they have? Jordan Love now year four, with two first round starters, probably at least one, a tight end or a receiver. Remember, you say, well, Green Bay wasn't good last year. No, they were really good late. They weren't good early because Aaron didn't go to off-site or off-season conditioning. They were a terrible team early.
Starting point is 00:44:15 They were a very good team late. They were dangerous, right? You know, they beat late. They beat Justin Fields at Soldier. They beat Baker Mayfield. Teams are going to play this year. At home. They beat Tua in Miami.
Starting point is 00:44:28 And then they beat Kirk Cousins. Well, again, that's who they're playing next year. It's not like it's different. I'm just saying, do you think Kirk Cousins is going to go 11 and 0 in one score games? There'll be some regression from Kirk Cousins. Some. Some. But I think we admit,
Starting point is 00:44:43 lions are going to be a problem. And it looks like the lions, did they sweet? Yeah, the lions swept the Packers last year. So the big question is, do you think they're going to do that back-to-back years? I don't. Listen, I'm telling you right now,
Starting point is 00:44:54 I like the Lions to win that division next year. And by the way, oh, by the way, the Bears are spending like drunken sailors right now in free agency. They are not going to be the worst team in the league next year. They're going to be a six or seven win team. And they're going to be a problem fighting back. They got a lot more talent already, Colin. A lot of linebackers.
Starting point is 00:45:11 I'm signed a bunch of linebackers. What's that receiver's name? Oh, DJ Moore. That's right. See if they can get the ball to him. Are you doubting Justin Fields? Well, I'm 60-40. I'm not 80-20.
Starting point is 00:45:23 I'm 60-40 he can play in this league as a starter. I'm not 60-40 he's going to be a star. That to me is really low. 60-40 he's a franchise quarterback. I'll just remind. I know you know this. But when Jalen Hertz added A.J. Brown, he went from like, we don't know him.
Starting point is 00:45:42 Maybe he's a starter to. potential MVP. Tua added Tyree Kill in midseason, Tua was on track to be like an MVP candidate. So you get these great receivers. DJ Moore's not great. He's very good. And there's a chance. Fields makes a big jump. I believe it's very possible. I do. And those are good examples that when you gave Tua and Hertz a star receiver, things changed. And you even said Josh Allen. I think he got Stefan Diggs, right, when they stole him from Minnesota. And all of a sudden, Josh Allen's numbers go through the roof. So none of this I'm denying. I'm just, what I'm saying is, seven and a half wins, what you're making it sound like is Green Bay in the NFC is going to be a
Starting point is 00:46:20 non-factor. NFC's bad. In a 17-game schedule, you bet the under, they're going to go 7 and 10 in the NFC. That's a bad football team. That's a bad, a 7-10 team in the NFC is not a 7-10 team in the AFC. Oh, and you're taking away your great blocking receiver in Alan Lazard. He's out the door. He's in the New York Football Jets uniform now.
Starting point is 00:46:42 I love how we go back and forth on these guys. I'm just, I tend to believe that well run, you know, my rule's always been. Hire smart people, they'll figure it out. Green Bay has got a lot of smart people in that organization. Scouts, regional scouts, Guden Coons, Mark Murphy, these are smart guys. They'll figure some stuff out. What they're making a bet on from all the video they've seen, the practices, Jordan Love can play. I trust smart guy is saying, we think he can play.
Starting point is 00:47:12 That's what they said years ago with Aaron Rogers who went to junior college and Cal. They're like, this guy can play. Do people, back in a second? Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
