Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fans, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith ruling. of two. Listen to Stuff to Bole Your Mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:01:33 you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. This is The Herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be making this part of your day. Thanks so much. I'm Doug Gottliebend for Colin Cowherd, who,
Starting point is 00:02:12 I think he's in Iceland? Maybe we've got a Hurline news from Iceland. That's what we'll do. We've got a great show for you today, as it is obviously Memorial Day. Maybe most interestingly, it's a day in which we not only honor people that have given the ultimate sacriacons.
Starting point is 00:02:38 sacrifice, but it's going to culminate in what I think most of us think is going to end up being a historic, I don't know, come back or collapse, right? And it's both. You know, I'm sure the debate shows, but was it a comeback or was it a collapse? Now, the Celtics have to win one more game. Let's first work our way back through game six before we get to game seven. weird game, which the Celtics led virtually the entire game up until a late game run. Basically, Jimmy Butler started getting to the free throw line. And, you know, the Celtics nearly had their own in-game collapse.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Keep in mind, the Celtics could not buy a three-point shot. I mean, couldn't throw one in the absolute ocean. Couldn't throw one in the ocean. But, and then Jimmy Butler, and it looked like he, and I understand the rule for double. dribble, but it did look like he traveled because you can lose a ball, but when you pick it up and then you lose it and you take two steps by definition, that's a travel. Nonetheless, a dumb foul by Al Horford.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Butler makes all three free throws. They did reset the clock to three seconds, which seemed a little bit generous. Although, like when the last two minutes report came out yesterday, it mentioned nothing about, it said they got the timing right. So it must have been, you know, an early start to when the ball came in bounds. They must have timed it out and figured that. that's what it was. I thought it was a little early.
Starting point is 00:04:10 But in a crazy sequence of events, the Celtics get a last second shot. Marcus Smart misses around and out. There are several things that are not discussed because Derek White's the hero. Not discussed is, it wasn't like Marcus Martin missed bad. That thing was up in and out. If it came to the other side of the hoop, Jason Tatum was right there jumping, seemed to time it out. so they could have gotten a tip dunk or another sort of finish, but they didn't.
Starting point is 00:04:42 And Derek White, who was taking the ball inbounds, throws it in, and his man loses him, and he ends up cutting to the basket and getting a tip-in finish. And like, look, it's a, I don't know if you want to go Derek Wittenberg, NC State. And I don't know if you guys saw this, but I believe in elimination games,
Starting point is 00:05:05 this is only the second. buzzer beating shot in an elimination game to be made to win a game? You guys see that? The other one obviously is Michael Jeffrey Jordan, which, let me start by saying this. If you've spent a holiday weekend
Starting point is 00:05:22 tweeting stats or game videos or an opinion about Jordan or LeBron being the goat because of whatever, when neither are playing as somebody who loves basketball, who idolized and watched Michael Jordan,
Starting point is 00:05:43 who's actually the start of my national media career, really, at least in radio, culminated with the 2003 NBA draft. So I've seen the whole thing for LeBron James. If you're tweeting about, well, LeBron's the goat because, Jordan's the goat because, and neither are playing,
Starting point is 00:06:00 you've got to find a hobby. And this ain't it. All right, let's get to the actual, actually what happened. I mean, it's, I mean, it was amazing. That was an incredible game and incredible atmosphere. Did you, Jay Stu, my producer alongside, did you see the video of the wedding party that thought the game was over? Like literally had.
Starting point is 00:06:24 I couldn't stop watching it. They have a Miami heat flag. I did not know anybody had a Miami heat flag. Doug, you've been married. And you've been to marry, marriage. marriages you've been in weddings. How do you think the bride and the bride's mom felt about somebody saying, we're going to bring a Miami Heat flag to the reception?
Starting point is 00:06:44 I don't know the level of fandom. I just didn't, like, I do remember that when LeBron decided to play for the heat, right, they famously showed a sports bar in South Beach and there was like five people in there cheering, right? and these are the Miami Heat fans that famously left the arena game six against the Spurs and you have a couple interviews going, man, it was a great year. They didn't even know that they came back and Ray Allen hit the shot and they won the game. But that was one of the most amazing videos ever.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And I was actually at a bar. I was at the O.C. Tavern. I'll give him a shout out in San Clemente, California. my daughter's rock band from Los Rios School of Music, whatever. They're up there rocking. She's playing tool and corn. And I popped out because I'm watching the game on my phone. Like, I've got to watch the end of this.
Starting point is 00:07:41 And it was a little confusing because the scorebug didn't change. The scorebug is where the score is, right? Even after the, even after the refs went back and reviewed it. But I saw it firsthand. I was like, that's in. That's in. And yet people are going crazy. But the video, if you haven't seen it, you can juggle, right?
Starting point is 00:08:02 Go to Google and Google it. And you'll be like, I can't. Who is the guy? They didn't have the video of somebody telling them. That's the video that's missing. Is there a video, J-Steu, that exists, of somebody telling them like, hey, guys, actually the shot counted and they lost. I did not see that.
Starting point is 00:08:20 It literally cuts off at the point where somebody probably figured it out. That was a remarkable thing. Here's Derek White on TNT after the game. It don't do no good to stay in the corner there whether he makes it or not. So I just was crashing the glass and it came right to me. Yeah, it's going to be a little crazy. My phone's already blowing up. But get home tomorrow, play with Hendricks.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I'm sure he won't look at me any differently. So that would be cool. Hendricks obviously is his son. Here's Jason Tatum on the wild finish. That felt like the longest 10 seconds ever waiting for confirmation. if he made it or not. I'm still like in disbelief. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:58 But, you know, I'm glad if we got another chance, another opportunity. Just the grit that we showed to get to this moment. I'm proud of that. I'm proud to be on this team. And I've never been so excited to go back to Boston in my life.
Starting point is 00:09:14 And I cannot wait to see all the fans on one day because it's going to be fun. Remember Jason Tatum last game seven, which was last series, he had 50. And he played well, but they did not shoot the three well. Jaylon Brown has been up and down, hasn't shot the ball well in the series. He summed up the series this way. It don't get too much worse than being down, no three.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Like, we feel like we've been to hell and back. We feel like we can face any adversity that gets thrown at us. It all means nothing if we don't come out and give our best effort on our home floor on Monday night. It's true. You know, what's interesting is after game three, here's why. It's a historic comeback. It's not just because they're the first team to come back from three games to none down. I'm just forcing a game seven is outstanding.
Starting point is 00:10:03 But remember back to game three. If you didn't, I think they lost, was it 128, 100? Like it was not a competitive basketball game. They completely no-showed. It was almost like a player revolt against whether it's each other or the coaches or the whatever. They were awful. And they got one. And it is one of those things to where you're like,
Starting point is 00:10:29 I wonder why more teams can't figure it out where it's like it's just, just won one game. Now look, they benefit from the fact that after winning one game of Miami, Gabe Vincent was hurt and they returned back home, right? You're always going to be better at home. And I thought game six was the deciding game in the series. Per stats guru, Dick Leipy, for the 148th game 7 in NBA history.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Boston is 26 and 10 all time in game 7s, 22 and 5 at home. Miami's 6 and 5 in game 7s, 0 and 2 on the road. Three teams have forced a game 7 after come back from 03 deficit. All three have lost, but none of the three played the 03 at home. I think the interesting other element or angle to it is, it feels like we're taking it a little bit easy on the heat. It's like, oh, well. And now I understand that they had an injury to gave Vincent's back.
Starting point is 00:11:25 They haven't had Tyler Hero, but Tyler Hill, I didn't play with them last series either. And they had the 3-0 lead without Tyler Hero. And don't give me Victor-O-Ladipo. Nobody expected Victor-O-Ladipo, despite another horrific knee injury to be a true contributor here in playoff time, right? He's not the same guy, and now I don't know if he'll ever play again. But the point is, like, the Golden State Warriors had a,
Starting point is 00:11:51 three games to one lead. Three games to one lead. And remember, they were in position, much like the Boston Celtics. Even though they had the lead, they weren't coming from behind. They had games, what, five and seven at home. Three games to one lead. Now, they were helped out by,
Starting point is 00:12:14 the calves were helped out by, one thing that nobody mentions is Andrew Bogot got hurt, I believe in game five, didn't play in, six and seven, and he was a rim protector, a great passer, and set some of the best legal and illegal screens in NBA history. But also it changes your rotation, changes everything about you. And then they didn't have Jermont Green when he got suspended. But that is because they won a title, I guess, right? Because they had won 73 regular season games. What's weird is we would all admit that the regular season isn't really a predictor for the playoffs. I mean, does
Starting point is 00:12:53 Does anybody remember who the one seed in the East was last year? The answer was the Miami Heat. Nobody, like regular season records, but apparently it matters in terms of how we view the collapse. Because make no mistake about it. You're up three games none. Two of the three games you have lost are at home. And that's a collapse of historic proportions, however you want to look at it.
Starting point is 00:13:23 So is it a historic comeback? Yes. Is it a historic collapse? Yes. Are my expectations that the Celtics win? Sure. And by the way, this is why the NBA have a seven-game series. You know, they used to have shortened series early in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:13:39 And, of course, they have the play-in tournament. But the idea is they want the best team to advance. And the more games you play, the more you think cream rises to the top. And it is weird that we seem to be not mentioning the collapse of the heat along with the comeback of the Celtics. And I guess it's because of seating. But the interesting part is, seating hasn't mattered in most of the NBA playoffs. The Lakers shouldn't have been, but they were actually favored as a seventh seed over the Denver Nuggets. I got more on that upcoming.
Starting point is 00:14:17 We got NBA news. You got Rick Buecker about to join us. They say good things come to those who wait. 2003 Mercedes-Benz SUV family proves otherwise. It takes no time at all to set up a test driving or local Mercedes-Benz dealer. Learn more at mbUSA.com. I did not know that anybody had a Miami Heat flag, let alone sparklers that went with it. Then they had their own like victory parade.
Starting point is 00:14:38 I would love to see the next video of what happened after that family found out. I'm Doug Gottlie filling in for Colin. Want to hear what Rick Bueger's thoughts are on is it a collapse or a comeback? Plus, should we have been paying more attention to the Nuggets? Or are we getting annoyed by telling us how many times we should have paid attention when now we're going to pay attention? Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.

Happy Memorial Day, Tia, Doug Gottlieb, been for college, a herd, Fox Sports Radio, Iheart Radio app. you get ready to sit down and eat your either barbecued or cooked or because remember like grilling is not barbecuing. You're barbecuing or barbecuing.
Starting point is 00:16:59 If you're grilling, it's something completely different. Like, oh, I've barbecued some burgers. Like, no, you grilled some burgers. We'll get to more of that upcoming. Sorry, I had to be like a grill snob a little bit. Rick Buecker joins us. Fox Sports One, Fox Sports Radio, NBA, analyst, and insider. And joins us here in the herd.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Buk, how would you, if somebody did, You didn't watch game six. How would you describe the game? Before we get to the end, how would you describe the game? It was, I don't know, sort of, I would say that the ice flow that is the Boston Celtics just slowly but steadily ate up the Miami heat. I mean, the general, the Alamo maybe, like putting up, I just, I just feel like. the Celtics depth eventually overcame the Miami heat making a valiant effort to try to eke out that win.
Starting point is 00:18:08 Like every time I looked at the score, I was like, man, the Celtics are only up like four? They're only up five. It just felt like the heat were grinding to get anything. And yet the Celtics would do just in. enough or not enough to really put them away. And then, you know, the end was really just, I know people that are like, Jimmy Butler finally turned it on in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Butler found a way to get to the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:18:40 But I mean, Al Horford personally responsible for his last five free throws, like a really smart defensive player you want out there made two kind of boneheaded plays. Yeah, for sure. But it really was like Jimmy kind of just driving and throwing himself into Allen and getting to the line. Sure. I think if it's step aside, I'm not sure that Jimmy wouldn't have front rims those shots like he did almost every one, every other one. And to me, he looks a lot like Steph Curry did at the end of the Lakers series, where he just is measuring how much. she has left and and took an approach in this game that I think was probably the exact opposite of
Starting point is 00:19:26 what LeBron did in game four, where LeBron came out and he put everything out there in the first quarter, first half. And Jimmy was just trying to get to the end and then make something happen to bring it home. And in both cases, it wasn't enough. Rick Pueker, joining us, Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports One, NBA Insight. I'm Doug Gawley. been for calling this is the herd um i so i played for eddie sutton at at oklahoma state and he would always tell us end of games that the first shot doesn't beat you the second shot does yeah um but have you seen this video of the wedding where there's miami heat fans and they have a flag and they're going crazy yeah i want how come there's no part two i mean no part two but well
Starting point is 00:20:21 Yeah. I don't think anybody had the heart to, like, video the second part, like, when the discovery was made. And I'll be honest, like, so Jimmy Butler is my daughter's favorite, favorite player. And he was free. I've never seen her as animated as she was. and and I wasn't that new I had to to duck out and so I listened to the end of the game and then went back and watched it but I texted her and I said I wish I had been there when Jimmy made the three free throws and I said I'm glad I wasn't there when Derek White got the tip in and she just like she was she was devastated as I think anybody who's either a Jimmy Butler or Miami Heat fan was. And to your point, like when it comes to the shot, like,
Starting point is 00:21:24 when the shot went up, except for Bam, Ban was the only guy that put a body on somebody. Every other Miami Heat player just looked up to see whether it's going to go. Yeah, it's called ball watching. Yeah, all of them. I mean, every single guy. Yeah, I mean, Jason Tatum, if it bounced off the front of the room, Jason Tatum dunks it.
Starting point is 00:21:43 He probably gets that tip in, too. Yeah, I mean, it was – and the shot nearly went in. And the shot nearly went in. But I was fascinated by everything that you could take from that play. Jason Tatum being a decoy, which I think speaks volumes. Because you're not – one, he didn't try hard to get open. Two, with three seconds left, I don't know that you're trying to get him the ball above the three-point line when it's a two-point game.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Dalyland Brown to me was the first option. And whether it was because Bam was on him or whatever, Derek White didn't see that. Marcus Smart always wants the ball. And I think you probably relate to this. Like instinctively, when you have it, if some guy, like, really wants it and he's open, your instinct is I'm going to get it to him. Right. And then the other part was Derek, like, relocated.
Starting point is 00:22:42 If Marcus had thrown it right back to Derek, I think he's got. got a better look at it than Marcus had pivoting and shooting. So, I mean, I just, I thought it was really interesting the way that Joe Missoula set that play up. And I think in small microcosm, it spoke volumes about who the Boston Celtics are. And each individual guy was, I think, there's a lot. on full display on that last play. Have we gotten to the point that we're tired of the Nuggets complaining that we're not talking about the Nuggets?
Starting point is 00:23:30 Honestly, I'm not going to begrudge them that simply because, one, it has worked for them. It has been their theme. I think that Mike Malone is using it as motivation for his entire team. and it has worked. And let's face it. I mean, it's been pretty much. They were the number one seed team in the,
Starting point is 00:23:57 in the West, and they win the Western Conference Finals, and it's instantly, oh, LeBron's going to retire, what are the Lakers going to do? I'm, I'm not going to begrudge them that
Starting point is 00:24:09 because so many of their guys have stepped forward in this March in ways that I had not previous to seen. Aaron Gordon, you know, dedicating himself to being a defensive stopper. Michael Porter Jr., getting a little tougher and attacking the rim and rebounding. Jamal Murray, obviously, and his story and even yoke it.
Starting point is 00:24:35 So, you know, as also, I've known Mike Malone since he was an assistant coach coming into the league. That's just who he is. He got that from his dad, Brendan. So I'm okay with it because I understand where it comes from. Rick Beaker joined us Fox Sports One and Fox Sports Radio NBA Insider. Okay, so LeBron, shocker here, going to come back for another year. But what do you think the Lakers look like, right?
Starting point is 00:25:10 Like it came out that the Mavericks aren't getting, they're not interested in a sign and trade. Like, they didn't trade all that stuff to let Kyrie go. You know, the only question with the Mavericks is two or four years in terms of what they're going to pay him. Right. I don't – the Trey Young thing seems like a clutch deal, right? But I don't think that dog will hunt. What do you think they do? Well, it gets really tricky.
Starting point is 00:25:36 I've been told a couple of things, and I've been talking to a number of people over the last couple of days about this because I'm going to write something for Fox Sports.com on that very question. What do the Lakers do? what can they do? I think they're committed to Austin Reeves and Rui Hachamura in terms of bringing them back. Now, what it costs them to bring them back is going to be the question. And they, you know, will those guys give them any sort of a discount? And some of it has to do with what's the market out for them?
Starting point is 00:26:14 what's somebody actually going to offer them that the Lakers are going to have to combat against? And I don't think the market is as rich for Rui as it is for Austin. And so that's going to determine whether they can squeeze another free agent signing in there. And that would be, you know, letting Delo and I think Vanderbilt. They have to let, they have to let some other pieces go, be questionable whether they could sign back Dennis Schrooter. But the idea, there's two parts here. So the idea that they're going to add, you know, Brooke Lopez or Kyrie or some big name free agent,
Starting point is 00:27:09 I think is wildly optimistic. you know, being able to retain what they have unless they can do, you know, the one caveat is, can you do a sign and trade with DeAngelo Russell? If you don't bring him back or can you convince him, hey, sign a one-year deal and we'll figure this out a year from now.
Starting point is 00:27:34 There's a lot of massaging that Rob Polinka is going to have to do with the players that they have if they want to add anything to the equation. But the second part is, you know, everybody's like, can the Lakers build, you know, another title contender? And I'm just, I'm looking at the West. Denver's in their prime.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Sacramento is coming. Memphis should get, you know, should be able to get their act together. There are just so many young teams that, are on the cusp, even Minnesota. Like, wait, wait, there's, if New Orleans is, I mean, obviously depends on Zion. You know, Phoenix is going to have to fill out their roster. They're not young with KD, but younger than, you know. And I just don't know that the Lakers can improve enough.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Bottom line is, I don't know that the Lakers can improve enough to say not on any level that they would be going into the season, a contender next season, in spite of how they finished this year. Yeah. No, listen, and I honestly, I don't think they beat Memphis. If Memphis is healthy, to be totally honest, right? So they have either, they're both their bigs. It's a different series. Nonetheless, they did, but, I mean, they got swept.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Let's not act like they were super competitive. They got beat four games, four games to none. Adrian Griffin's new coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, that's a new face, right? That's the guy who was a player. He's been assistant in Toronto. But there's a lot of thoughts that, hey, these teams with championship aspirations, you got to hire a coach with a championship pedigree. And there's several out there.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Nick Nurse. Like, you name it. There's, you know, Doc still out there. Obviously, you have several. Who are you most confident will get which job, which of the remaining jobs? I don't. I mean, honestly, I don't have. the curious thing
Starting point is 00:29:43 well I would say look I expect Nick Nurse to get hired and thinking about all the guys that are out there I mean you got Frank Vogel out there he's got a title right he's interviewing for every yeah I mean
Starting point is 00:29:59 I just look at how how things how guys played for Nick and how quickly he came along and what his background is I will say this you know I think with Adrian Griffin, Griffin hire and looking at some of the other hires,
Starting point is 00:30:18 like the value of having a coach with playing, it's kind of flipped. We've gone retro now where, you know, being a former player or having understanding, you don't have to be a great player, but understanding the mentality of players and being able to reach them and motivate them or understand how to motivate a player. Sure. Has gained value in the marketplace, you know, whether it's EMA or, you know,
Starting point is 00:30:52 Jodon played in the league, but has a player's mentality. Darwin Ham, obviously, that's become, that's kind of become the new flavor. And it's, I mean, it's so funny how that happens where we see trends in the NBA like you see in every other business. suddenly like this becomes the flavor of the day and I think that's what we're seeing. Last thing. Who wins tonight? I can't go against Boston at this point. I hear Eric Spolstra, Jimmy Butler, you know, I love the fight. I love the story. I'd love to say that they're going to get it done because I feel like it's just Boston has messed around. but they just, it's diminishing returns for the Miami Heat.
Starting point is 00:31:47 It's not that like Butler and Spoe and the Heat didn't want to win game six or didn't show up and play, you know, I think they're just worn out. I think they've expended everything they've got and to think that you're going to go on the road and summon the energy that is necessary. And I, you know, a lot of X's and O's that goes into this stuff, but I really think at this point, it's just a matter of the Celtics being deeper and fresher and they're going to be on their home floor. I just find it hard to believe that they're not going to pull it out.
Starting point is 00:32:26 And on the other hand, I do think that the finals, a Boston, Denver final would be far more intriguing than if we got my. Andy Denton. No question. I don't think that affects the officiant or anything tonight, but it's, I mean, you have, because Boston is Boston, because of their seed, because they were in the finals last year, I don't think there's, there's any doubt. Buk, great stuff. Enjoy your Memorial Day.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Thanks for joining us. You do the same, Doug. Let's get to Jason Stewart with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Hey Doug, according to Andy Slater, who works for our Fox Sports radio affiliate, Fox Sports 640, South Florida. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:17 He just tweeted out that the heat have a flight schedule to Denver, not Miami, after the game tonight, per FAA records. What do you make of this, Doug? I mean, I think it's just logistics of you have to plan ahead. Okay. I figured you would assume that was a. Nothing Burger. And by the way, the NBA finals start on Thursday, right? Which, I mean, like, yeah, I mean, I'd only point out that, and I'm sure they have to,
Starting point is 00:33:49 whoever wins has to fly there probably tomorrow. But anyone will tell you, like, you want to get to Denver as late as possible and then honestly leave in between games. Like, they play Thursday, Sunday, like, get out, because what happens is you become oxygen depleted. But I think in terms of Miami, that's just logistic. I'm guessing Boston has a similarly planned flight. Here's a similar bombshell.
Starting point is 00:34:12 I bet they have hotel rooms booked too in Denver. They don't just do it after they win on two days' notice. Did you hear what Damien Willard said about Yokic on his live Instagram account? It sounded like this. Joker might be the best player in the league, my boy. The best player don't always win MVP. I thought NB should have won MVP this year. But that boy, Joker, boy.
Starting point is 00:34:38 he might be the best player in the league. Watching him play and playing against him, it's like blood don't ever miss. Now, Doug, the blood thing's become a thing. Yes, it's calling people blood has become a thing. I know my son, his friends do it. And I was like, what?
Starting point is 00:34:59 There's like a meme. Blood, where are you? Blood, where are you? Anyway, they keep repeating it, and I can't take it. What was your question? Well, my whole thing is that you were the one that sent out the tweet that everyone got all pissed off at, that Yokic was the odds-on favorite to win the M-B's MVP until Kendrick Perkins made it about race. Correct. Yokic ended up getting only 17 first-place votes.
Starting point is 00:35:25 M-B winning the MVP, that's fine. But Yokic only getting 17 is, I think, is an indictment on those who voted. Look, I think it's, I think here's the real thing. You and I talked about this on my show, which is, let's just be honest. Most people don't watch a lot of regular season basketball. They definitely don't watch full games. And even fewer people watch the Denver Nuggets play full game regular season basketball. So, I mean, I remember Lisa Sultress.
Starting point is 00:35:58 Now, in fairness to Lisa, it's not her job to evaluate, right? I think she just won an Emmy as a sideline reporter and she's a good one. But it's not her job. But even she was like, I can't believe. I mean, I haven't watched them much all year. Like you cover the NBA. But that's everybody. It's like the Nuggets are mad that nobody watches them.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Like, hey, most people don't watch regular season NBA games. When they do, you just don't watch the Nuggets. It's at a weird time. You know, I don't know. It's West Coast you watch Steph or LeBron. or maybe the Clippers when Kauai was healthy. And then when you had Kevin Durant, like they were an afterthought in the Western Conference,
Starting point is 00:36:38 even though they were better. So I almost feel like Lillards even had a bit of an epiphany. You know? All right. Give me one more. Give me that story that the burner account for an NBA ref? This is great. So the NBA is investigating longtime referee Eric Lewis
Starting point is 00:37:00 involving a Twitter account that has responded to numerous posts online defending his calls and his fellow referee calls. His Twitter, his burner Twitter handle supposedly is Cutliff Blair. He goes by Blair Cutliff. Now, this would be an issue because it's against NBA rules for any referee to talk about a prior call. And he could face discipline. Now, the NBA has had some issues with the burner accounts. Remember, Brian Colangelo and his wife had an issue. He later resigned.
Starting point is 00:37:35 And then we all know Kevin Durant and his burner accounts. This one's a new one, a referee with a burner account. Are you surprised? Very, very. Like, look, you really think you're winning the fight by defending yourself on Twitter? You know? Like, there is no one-sided... Especially if you're a ref, I just, that one, it is the most idiotic thing ever.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Now, in terms of burner accounts, I know lots of people. All of our bosses have them. Any boss I've ever had in TV, they have one. That's how they check on what you're tweeting, and you don't know. So we act like it's super nefarious, but in regards to an official, like, what are you doing? You know, you can watch the chaos, but you can't participate in it. It's just like you're asking to be fired. And how is defending yourself helping anything?
Starting point is 00:38:36 And that's Jason Stewart with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news. Hey, stop me if you've heard this before, but appears Jimmy Garoppolo may have another injury. What could be the backup plan if he can't go for the Raiders? We'll discuss next in The Herd.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hi, this is Jay Glazer, and you may know me for the world of football or fighting or even shows like HBO's ballers. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Starting point is 00:41:01 TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Doug Gottlie in for Colin. This is the hurt. I heart radio app, Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports Radio. So do you guys remember when Jimmy Garapolo, who Colin has this, I don't want to say like a thing for it, but kind of a thing for it, right? I mean, he really likes to talk about how handsome Jimmy Garoppolo is. And he's a good-looking human being. But you remember when Jimmy Garoppolo was supposed to announce.
Starting point is 00:41:31 they're supposed to have a press conference to announce to signing with the Raiders. It was delayed by a couple of days. Well, it turned out that Garapolo underwent surgery for his injured foot in March after signing with the team. He's yet to take the field with the new club in OTAs. And there's a new report from pro football talk that highlights that his injury forced the Raiders to put a waiver contract, waiver in Garopolo's contract. It's called addendum G. Endem G.
Starting point is 00:41:59 That sounds like a really cool either sci-fi flick. Sci-fi flick. Coming in March, addendum G. Specifically centered around that foot injury. The addendum notes that Garapolo acknowledges that he would not be able to pass the team's physical due to the pre-existing injury.
Starting point is 00:42:17 And it continues to say that Garapolo acknowledges it assumes the risk of further injury, including permanent disability. It's basically so that they can't get sued. and his contract doesn't become injury guaranteed because he's carrying with him in a litany of other injuries, this injury. But look, I don't know, and I don't think most people know what Tom Brady's doing. But we can point out that Tom Brady, there's been reports of, I don't know if I want to do that Fox TV deal. He's taking a year to kind of figure out what he wants to do. Meanwhile, he's buying a minority stake in the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:42:54 and, of course, there was the widely, like the poorly kelp secret, the widely held rumor, that the team that he said, I can't believe you're hanging on to that effing guy, was Derek Har and the Raiders. So, oh, yeah, by the way, his former quarterback coach and offensive coordinator is the Raiders head coach and basically runs the, like the whole thing fits. What if Tom's not done, right? And as much you're like, I don't know, I don't, you know, he's a preparation guy. He is.
Starting point is 00:43:39 He is. But it's not like he doesn't know that offense like the back of his hand. And oh, yeah, by the way, like, what do all, what are these great musicians or comedy acts? What do they do? They go and they set up shop in Vegas. You know? on one stage you got Brittany and the other you got Brady that's where they that's where they go
Starting point is 00:44:01 I don't need a tour I'll just go and do a couple months in Vegas a couple times a year for several years what if Brady becomes the fallback position because they and they have Brian Hoyer there right who was Brady's backup he knows the offense but it's the Raiders
Starting point is 00:44:19 they want they got to win got to win I mean and then think of that division if he did come back. You got Russell Wilson, who he's got to turn this thing around. Pat Mahomes, right now the king of the quarterback kingdom. And obviously, you got Chester Herbert, who everybody thinks is one of the best, just they've got to win a playoff game. But that Jimmy Garoppolo being hurt is the least surprising news ever.
Starting point is 00:44:53 What, Jimmy Garoppolo is hurt? these are stories that have already been written. You know, it's like Jay Stu, you always say like, oh, that story, you know, that nobody in Hollywood would buy that story. They throw it out of the room. It's a script that they would just throw out of the room. Just throw it out of the room. Just throw out of the room. What was the one that, oh, the best one was last week with the Michi Viejo Golf Pro.
Starting point is 00:45:22 And you had people going like, oh, this. story, it wouldn't even be made into a movie. He couldn't believe it. It was like, what are you talking about? Tim Kup actually exists. That movie already exists. It's already been made. And by the way, there's been a movie about a snail that won the Indy 500.
Starting point is 00:45:38 Yes. That one passed past the pitch. Got all the way being made. So, yeah. I mean, there's plenty of different premises for movies that you're like far more, far harder to draw the conclusion they be made. But Garapolo being hurt, not surprising. Carapolo not being there,
Starting point is 00:46:02 not surprising. Brady being on the prow, not surprising when you look at all these other surrounding factors. It'd be fascinating. I love the nuggets and I'm sick of the nuggets. I'll explain why next. I'm Doug Gottlieb. This is the herd. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
