Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcasts presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend, Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the hips since high school. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:01:13 A redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drinks. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo. Well, then you got them.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was funny. You just understood.
Starting point is 00:01:51 That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis'i kept coming to him. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:06 This week on Crimless, Rory and I welcome a very special guest. When I would do it a podcast, I wear my sleep masks. I like where this is going. So if you guys will indulge me. That's right, the incredibly talented and hilarious Will Ferrell on an episode dedicated to crimes committed by people named Will Ferrell. You're good for 300 crimes? Yeah. We got two. We got two.
Starting point is 00:02:30 I'm ready to go right up to present day. Listen to Crimless on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, I've probably sounded better a few broadcasts in my life.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Who cares? Suck it up. Here we go. LFG, live in Los Angeles. It's the herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for making that's part of your day. We've got the herd hierarchy. We've got Nick Wright. We'll check in on the Cowboys. J. Mac Lakers won again.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I gotta tell you, this is fascinating to me. So you and I, I think, both, we like business. You know, we kind of into it, especially the sports business. It's amazing to me what people go cheap on. Like I've always said, like in life, transportation, toilet paper, and quarterbacks, don't go cheap. You know, you can go cheap on paper, towels, and water. But it's amazing to me.
Starting point is 00:03:51 The Dallas Cowboys are worth $10 billion. Now think about that. that. So wouldn't you be willing to spend like more than four or five million on the head coach? I mean, I used to be critical of Dak Prescott. I'm sympathetic for Dak Prescott. I feel bad for him. He needs a life preserver. He's drowning with this team. The head coaching staff for Dallas, it's just suboptimal, bad night, no energy, no juice, offensive line got humiliated, third most penalized team in the league. I mean, they haven't won a game. or they didn't score 37 plus points.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Second straight year, the defense is 31st. I mean, I feel bad for DAC. The NFL has far more poorly run teams than well-run teams. We all know the good ones. Seattle and Green Bay and Detroit and Baltimore and Buffalo and Kansas City. We know the well-run teams. When I watched the Dallas Cowboys last night getting hammered at home by a journeyman NFL quarterback, Dallas is a lot closer to the Saints and the Titans and the Jets.
Starting point is 00:04:58 I mean, even right now the Panthers have a pulse. The Panthers beat Dallas this year. But I mean, they prioritize the wrong stuff. They won't spend money on a big time coach. Folks, Mike Vrable, first year, eight, nine games in. They're a playoff team. Sean Payton, most dead cap money in league history, doesn't matter. Playoffs with a rookie quarterback.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Jim Harbaugh took over a shipwreck. playoff team. I mean, you got to pay them $19 million a year, $18 million a year, and you got to give them power and some control and personnel and Jerry won't do it. But the longer Brian Schottenheimer's, the head coach, it's like we've all had a bad manager. You know, I've been very, very lucky in my life, I've had almost singularly great management, but we've all had a bad boss somewhere. And the longer the bad boss is the boss, the worse it gets. It's bad in the first month. It's terrible after six months and after a year you're like, we need a new boss. But you could have had Sean Payton. He used to be an assistant there. You could have had Rable. I mean, you had a lot of opportunities,
Starting point is 00:06:03 but you got to spend $20 million. But they're not willing to do it. Here's the other thing that I noticed with Dallas is that you can't have any conditions in the NFL with winning. Bill Belichick was done when Bill Belichick said, there's just, I only want to coach certain players. when Bill Belichick said that, bro, you're done. You got to coach the best players, even if some of them aren't perfect human beings. They're young kids. They make a lot of money. They make mistakes.
Starting point is 00:06:34 You can't have conditions. Jerry has conditions. He's willing to win if he has a say and he has control. That is not the NFL. This isn't college football where there's like the Ohio State roster is better than almost every team they play every week. That's not the way it is. A backup, Jacoby Brissette, he's been on six teams, the Patriots twice, walked into your building and rolled you. That's because you have conditions.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Belichick had conditions. You can't do it that way. And the other thing is, when Jimmy Johnson was there and Parcells, there was friction. Friction's great. It creates clarity. Jimmy doesn't want friction from his coach. He wants Jason Garrity wants Mike McCorm. McCarthy, he wants Brian Schottenheimer.
Starting point is 00:07:22 He wants comfort. So the two things you can't do as an owner in this league is seek comfort with your coach. The good ones are going to piss you off sometimes. The good ones are going to have an opinion. The good ones are going to want to have a say. I mean, Brian Schottenheimer, you saw that Pickens penalty last night? He doesn't want any part of the friction. And the other thing is you can't have conditions in this league.
Starting point is 00:07:47 I mean, for years I was tough on Dak Prescott. I feel terrible for the guy. I do, I will acknowledge, I do think eventually the mica trade a year, you know, eight months from now in April, or whatever it is, that will pay off. But that thing last night, Dallas looked a lot closer to the Titans and the Jets
Starting point is 00:08:08 than they did the Rams, the Eagles, or the Ravens, and the Bills. And here is Dak Prescott after. Knowing that you're better than that and going out there and not putting a performance close to your standard or even the expect, or what you thought you could do and expect it to do against this team. And credit to those guys, that's the beauty of the NFL.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Games, play, stats, none of that's done on paper. You've got to go out there and you've got to earn it that night with everything taken into count. They kicked our ass in both sides of the ball. Yeah. I mean, unbelievable. Here's the other thing. Sean Payton used to be, you know, he was coaching on the game. Cowboys on the offensive side. He left the Cowboys in 2006. And again, I know Sean pretty well.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Okay. Sean's got an opinion. Sean's not easy. Sean is a good guy, but Sean's got an opinion. Bill Parcells has an opinion. Jimmy Johnson has an opinion. They're going to make life uncomfortable. They're going to confront you. Sean Payton's got an eye and Jimmy, Sean and and Parcells may, in my opinion, have the best sense of personnel. Those guys like are really good on personnel. A lot of coaches aren't. Andy Reid admits that's not his thing. Some guys are play designers and play callers. Those guys are personnel guys. Jimmy, Jimmy knows personnel. Maybe as good as any coach that's ever, now, Jim Harbaugh, right out of college also knows personnel. Payton's good with personnel. You were all banging
Starting point is 00:09:38 on that Harvey pickup in the second round. He's really good. And they got dead cap money everywhere and he's banging, he's hitting and hitting and hitting with his GM on these players. But Peyton left in 2006. Since then, and by way, he went to the worst team in the league. So Sean Payne went to the worst team in the league, and then he went to Denver with the worst deadcat money. Sean Payton's got nine playoff wins since then. Jera has four. You got to seek discomfort in any business. Now, Jerry, to his credit, is acknowledging it, but listen carefully after last night's embarrassing debacle. There's enough intensity here, really.
Starting point is 00:10:22 You don't have to add just anger to it. I don't know where that feeling is. It's somewhere I'm pretty frustrated right now with how we got here, my decision-making relative to the things that go on. You know, the way we dial it up here, and there's no dodging. looking at the mirror. Appreciate the candor, appreciate the honesty,
Starting point is 00:10:50 but it is, a mirror is what they need. That was embarrassing. And I got to say this, for Jacoby Brissette, and I love these reclamation stories, I really do. I remember years and years ago, Parcells was telling everybody, I love this kid named Jacobi Brissette. I love him. He's just a pro.
Starting point is 00:11:08 I really appreciate football players. They may not be stars, but they love the game, and they bounce around the league, and Jacoby Brissette, by the way, they are six point better in Arizona when he plays over Kyler Murray. It's been a bad year for small quarterbacks. Russell Wilson, Tua and Kyler Murray since 2019 have one playoff win. And people were trying to convince me a Johnny Mansell, and I said, get out of here.
Starting point is 00:11:36 And Dylan, Gabriel, get out of here. Jacobi Brissette, oh, what a shock. Marvin Harrison on the same day complained he couldn't watch Arizona's offense because his son wasn't getting the ball. Marvin Harrison has his best game as a pro and the best move in the red zone by any receiver this year. So I got nothing against Kyler Murray. I've met him. I like him. I think he's the most elusive young quarterback I've ever seen, even more so than Russell Wilson. And I bought into it. But, you know, we got five years here. He hadn't been a pro bowler. He hadn't had a pass rating over 100. And here's the thing. I don't think he loves football. And I don't think that's a
Starting point is 00:12:10 hot take. I'm the owner of Arizona. I know the former GM. I think he's super. talented, but this has been a referendum year. Size matters. I'm looking at all these college quarterbacks, Mendoza, 6.5, Dante Moore, 6.2 and a half, 6.3, these college quarterbacks, the old Miss kids, good, small, but good, but most of them are 6.1.5, 6, 2, and a half, 6.3 and a half. And that's the key. We've tried to convince ourselves that size doesn't matter, but when you got McBride and Harrison, you need to deliver the ball over the middle of the field. Those guys need the ball on the run underneath. And, I mean, I just, I'm watching them last night.
Starting point is 00:12:49 I think Arizona reminds me at Indianapolis last year. Everybody was crushing the coach and the GM in my, I see talent. I think Arizona's got dudes. I've been saying this for two years with Colts. The Colts have dudes. They didn't have a quarterback. So you put Jacoby Brissette in, who's a bounce around the league journeyman, just Jacoby Brissette.
Starting point is 00:13:09 And they're worth almost a touchdown more again. game. I mean, it feels like, now here's that, I will say, Kyler Murray is movable. You don't have to pay him. There's no guaranteed money, I think, is it after next year? There's no guaranteed money. So he's movable, and I don't think the best GMs in the league will go after him, but he's super talented. You know, if you're in chaos or you're desperate, you'll go get him. but the coach says after that really impressive win on the road stand-alone game that uh brissette was good but kinder's the guy i thought he played well thought he operated we had one protection issue um that's on me us uh coaches we got to do a better job with that with some protection and then the one you know sack they made it a little
Starting point is 00:13:58 adjustment with the play that we're in it was a good job by flu uh to make the adjustment there so just got to keep him clean and he shows how he can deliver the football. Will Kyleers still be your studying quarterback when you're enjoying? Nothing's changed on that. Yeah, nothing's changed except the results. Who are we fooling here? You got to stop protecting. I mean, you really do.
Starting point is 00:14:20 It's, you know, it's like an Indianapolis. I feel like I'm watching the Colts where I, for two years, I kept defending Chris Ballard. I'm watching the games. I like their players. They just don't have a guy to distribute it accurately enough. And we've been five years here with a pass rating under 100, and it just seemed like to me, Jacoby Brissette unlocks that offense a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:42 So there you go. J. Mack, there are some things I cannot get over. Heard hierarchy at the top of next hour. I don't know what to do with the Packers. I don't know what to do with Kansas City. Do the Packers have the widest range of outcomes this season? They could lose in the first round. They could win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:15:01 You know what? I was saying to the staff this morning through this. nasally voice, is that Matt LaFleur reminds me a little of Lincoln Riley at USC. I think they're both really smart. I think they love to run the ball first. I think they're very good at developing quarterbacks. But sometimes I question with Lincoln Riley, what's the identity of USC football? And with right now with Green Bay, what is my question?
Starting point is 00:15:34 What are the Packers? They got dudes. Don't tell me Greenwood doesn't have talent. And I don't want to hear they're young. Seattle's almost as young and Seattle's on a heater. Seattle looks like, honestly, a top three or four team in the league. They got Arizona this week and what is a scary game, right? Because Seattle looks like the best team in the league.
Starting point is 00:15:52 What has happened to all the quarterbacks of the best teams in the league the last like four weeks? Baker loses, right? Daniel Jones loses. Patrick Mahomes loses. I think Seattle's got to be on upset alert this week against Suddenly mighty Arizona, huh? With Jacoby Brissette under center?
Starting point is 00:16:08 Not with Kyle Murray. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington from the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, dude? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:16:57 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range. of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name,
Starting point is 00:17:09 Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:26 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey Jonas. And then I wrote down, in my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 00:18:08 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris.
Starting point is 00:18:31 every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchen went. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:19:16 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall.
Starting point is 00:19:41 And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out. real quick. Ah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the boss. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Giamonka seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad, but secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate. that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out.
Starting point is 00:20:36 Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No, I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man.
Starting point is 00:20:57 This is gonna change my life and my family dynamic forever, because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. You know what's amazing about the National Football League is in baseball, if you like a guy, you like a guy. Generally, you're like, okay, he's 24, he's got a good arm. You're like, yeah, like he's going to give us 28 good starts. He's a good pitcher. He may not be Clayton.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Kershah or Yoshi, but he's a good pitcher. Same in basketball. You like a guy or you don't. Very rarely do you change your opinion quickly on an NBA player or a major league baseball player? Football is different because of the component of the regulated level of violence is that you can like a guy, but if he's always hurt, he doesn't do you any good. Like Malik Neighbors for the New York Giants is good, he's hurt too much. He's not a top 10 receiver. I don't care how talented he is. He's hurt too much. And I was thinking about this. Ben Johnson was talking about Caleb Williams.
Starting point is 00:22:02 If you asked me a year ago this question, I'd have a totally different answer. But if you told me today, I have got a ride, ride or die for the next four to five years, with Caleb Williams of the Bears or Jaden Daniels, I would take Caleb Williams. Well, how? Jaden's been hurt four times. Jaden's not available. Caleb is a bigger, stronger, more physical, truncier athlete. And so, by the way, Jaden Daniels' NFL career, 33 touchdowns, 11 picks.
Starting point is 00:22:32 You want to know what Caleb's NFL career is? 32 touchdowns, 10 picks. And the difference is, Jaden Daniels walked into this league, and it was a do-over. There was all this newness in D.C., and he was part of it. It was fresh. It was new. It was ascending.
Starting point is 00:22:47 That's not what happened for Caleb Williams. He walked into the middle of a home renovation, and they were on the second project manager. It wasn't going well. Okay? Like there were holes everywhere. There was some fraud going on. the home renovation, Matt Iber Fluse and his cartoon coaching staff, that's what he inherited.
Starting point is 00:23:06 And remember, Caleb did not start nearly as many games as Jaden Daniels. So Caleb Williams came in very, very, he had 22 fewer starts than Jaden Daniel. So Jaden comes in with a lot more starts. He's in the SEC, has more NFL bodies, and then he gets this Cliff Kingsbury and Dan Quinn and the newness and Terry McLaurin. But now you look today, and you can look today, and you can. got a ride or die and you're like, Caleb doesn't throw any picks. Caleb's always healthy. He's a bigger, thicker, stronger athlete. And right now, the Bears, this is the best Bears offense since 1983 through nine games. And we can nitpick here, but the kid has developed a relationship
Starting point is 00:23:49 with Roma Dunzee. Right now, they're number one in the NFL in big plays per game. It's a Sam Darnold thing. It's an Andrew Luck thing. People used to pick it at Andrew Luck because of the picks and they'd pick on Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold is a big play quarterback. He is a big play quarterback. Caleb Williams, same thing. It's not always pretty. He can miss the layups. He's not highly accurate all the time. But it's just in the NFL, my opinion, I mean, like, Drake May at the end of last year, you're like, yeah, there's something there. Then four games in with Vrabel, you're like, oh, that's a star. Like that, that is a top seven quarterback in the league eventually. And that's what football does to us. And I like Jaden Daniels a lot. But we got four
Starting point is 00:24:36 injuries in two years. And that was the primary concern with Jaden Daniels in college. So I've said this many times. When the primary concern in college becomes the primary concern in the NFL, you got trouble. Now, Caleb's primary issue was he doesn't play in structure. Well, actually, he's playing more in structure and he's cut his sacks in half. So he's, he's doing a better job. I don't think he's a super accurate guy. He'll get better. But he's a little Cam Newton here. He's just got so much damn firepower and so much horsepower that sometimes he's so amped up, he'll miss the layups. But Ben Johnson on that wild win over the Bengals, he said that was an offensive win.
Starting point is 00:25:18 There were times this year that I felt like we won in spite of the offense. And this was probably the first time I felt like the offense had a big say in us winning that game. And so that was encouraging to me just for that phase. And it's not necessarily flip floppy. There is a difference between, you know, a dog
Starting point is 00:25:39 ate my homework. That's an excuse. Or, yes, somebody teabone the school bus on the way. The kids were all late. They're all okay, but they were late to school. That's different. The reality is, with Caleb is, fewer college starts, goes to Chicago,
Starting point is 00:25:55 hot mess of a coaching staff, that's a real bona fide reason for struggling. But I'm watching him right now, and if you had to give one word description of every one of the young quarterbacks. For Drake May, you would say hit. Bo Nix, hit. J.J. McCarthy,
Starting point is 00:26:19 somewhere between shaky and undetermined. Michael Pennix? Unsure. Caleb kind of feels like a hit. It's not always pretty, but it's trending there. Danny Parkins talked about this yesterday in our show. He had to go through firing Matt Iber Fluss and firing Shane Waldron in the whole fiasco of last year. But they upgraded the offensive line.
Starting point is 00:26:47 They upgraded his weapons. They upgraded his coach, who happened to also be his play caller, and he's seeing growth. You mentioned the sacks. He has, what, 14 sacks taken in eight weeks? He took 68 sacks last year. I don't need to give you anything else beyond that and its improvement. Caleb's a gamer. That's his third come from behind drive in the fourth quarter in his last five games.
Starting point is 00:27:09 So is he perfect or a finished product? Far from it. But he's really talented and he's getting better week by week. Yep. Heard hierarchy top of next hour with Nick Wright. Matt Mosley talking some cowboys before the end of this hour. A lot of stuff today. but it kind of feels like we're trending toward a hit.
Starting point is 00:27:27 I know it's early. But there are times when you get a bad boss. It's your first job out of college, right? And maybe your son or daughter, you're listening, you're a dad. The first job out of college is the company's not real good. And maybe your son or daughter is a little immature. They definitely need, you know, a really nice landing spot in their first job and they don't get it. You can't bail on people.
Starting point is 00:27:49 I mean, Sam Darnold's the great example of that. Baker Mayfield, be very careful about bailing on quarterback. in a league where there's never been more good offensive coaching, and Caleb finally got some. It was his second coach, but he finally got some. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:28:07 This is the herd line news. Let's go that Detroit Lions lost to the Vikings, Colin. They were coming out of the by week. They were considered one of the better teams in the league, and they kind of got smashed at home by Minnesota. Jared Goff got beat up badly. Talking to the media after the game, Dan Campbell took responsibility for the team's lack of preparedness.
Starting point is 00:28:28 We did everything we needed to do to lose that game. We made every critical error you needed to at the right time to lose it. Perfect storm. You know, when you don't play well in all three phases, that falls on the head coach. That's me. So I did not have them ready coming out of a buy. You know, we weren't. We made too many critical errors, man.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Yeah, Detroit's one of my favorite picks of the week. Against Washington. Yeah, a really good team that had a really bad home loss in division. You know what we always say. Like commanders now, trade deadline. What's the commander's locker room like today knowing 10 guys in that locker room are not sure the team wants to keep them? That's not a good week of practice for the commanders. Old team beat up.
Starting point is 00:29:21 I mean, for the next several hours, their commander players talking to their agents, wives, like I may be out of town. So Detroit's got a galvanized, focused, angry locker room. The commanders is all sorts of questions, enigmatic, and players don't know if they'll be with the commanders in an hour. So let me focus, yeah, Washington's cook. Let's focus on the Lions for a second.
Starting point is 00:29:43 So we've seen this season, I'll have some data for you later in the week. Teams coming off by this season have roared. They've ripped. They've been amazing. We just saw the Cardinals come off a buy and just, they were dominant for three plus quarters. The Rams off the buy. Unbelievable. Why did Dan Campbell flop so badly off a buy?
Starting point is 00:30:01 Is he not a grinder? No, no, no. No. He's a total grinder. So this is a very legitimate question. There are two types of coaches in the NFL, primarily CEOs. They're not scheme gurus. Shanahan is.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Okay, Shanahan, Andy Reed, they're great scheme. and CEOs. When you give the scheme guys, like McVeigh an extra week, it is Sean Payton, you're cooked. But if you give the CEOs, the yellers, the guys that are mostly about physiology and psychology and presence, what do they do with the extra time? So my feeling is there are certain teams.
Starting point is 00:30:45 I love offensive coaches off a buy if I think they're scheme guys, because they'll bring in six new looks. But if it's just, hey, you know, Mike Tomlin's not a scheme guy, is a motivator. Dan Campbell, same thing. There's nothing wrong with that. But I think if you look at Detroit and you're like, well, what happened? Well, I mean, the truth is the intensity is the key for Dan Campbell.
Starting point is 00:31:09 And in the by week, he lost it. If you watched that game, like the Cowboys last night, were flat. They were flat. Detroit was flat. Great points. A couple notes here. Jared Goff got pressured 30 times. Oh, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Sacked five times. It was incredible. I haven't seen Detroit's whole line get worked like that in two years. I know we like Jemir Gibbs a lot. This stat blew my mind. So he had to pick up the blitz a lot because Minnesota and Flores are blitzing. He had to pick up the blitz 16 times. Seven of them he gave up pressures.
Starting point is 00:31:41 So basically it was 50-50 if Jemir Gibbs was going to pick up the blitz. That is not a good sign going forward. The smart, good teams, the Rams. come playoff time are going to see that and be like, hey, Gibbs Camp, let's pick up. The colder the weather gets, okay, the closer we get toward Thanksgiving and beyond, coaching matters a lot. Everybody now has all sorts of film. All these teams have tendencies. The margins thin out, right? The good teams at the trade deadline get a little better with acquisitions. So this is now where coaching matters.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Pellichick's best month was always December and January. His weakest was September. So this is, and that's been the question with Dan Campbell. We know, Mike Tomlin, by the way, more of a motivator. Why are his team so bad late in the season? You can only motivate and do the raw-rah stuff for so long. So Tomlin's highly effective. And then December hits and everybody's heard the stories and the raw-rah stuff.
Starting point is 00:32:42 And they're not buttoned up scheme-wise. That's why Aaron's so valuable to this team is Aaron's good on the scheme. And by the way, Dan Campbell, just reminded me listening to you. They had the buy against Washington in the playoffs come out and get absolutely destroyed. They're only their worst game of the year. So again, buys don't matter for certain coaches. Let's move on to the Rams, Colin.
Starting point is 00:33:01 I think you and I both like their Super Bowl odds a lot. They had an impressive showing against the Saints. Be careful. Puka Nakua got dinged up. McVeigh taking responsibility for calling an end around in the red zone. Here we go. I feel sick, you know, because, you know, that fourth down situation where he's getting kind of a side shot and he's so good at that
Starting point is 00:33:22 and that's such an important situation and you're saying damn you know you leave him susceptible to a great player pursuing from an inside out location that gives him a good shot so that's not on anything him that's more on the play call and yeah I think um he's the game of the week by the he listen puka gets banged up I also think I'm not he's tough though he's not like brandon iuk out a year no no no no he's a seven weeks like super physical play This guy's tough. I'm going to tell you something right now, my inclination, Niners keep it close. Division rival, by the way, with the Rams ascending, this game arguably means more to the Niners.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Well, Niners beat them last time. That's what I'm saying. The Niners need to sweep this series to be a playoff team. Rams don't. Yeah. Look at the Rams schedule going forward. I can't do anything with the Niners until I know injury situation. But I'll tell you this, if they can't pressure Stafford and he's sitting back there in a tuxedo throwing passes,
Starting point is 00:34:18 they're not stopping this offense. So I cannot wait for this game. I don't think I'm going to bet it. Look at that Rams schedule. Got a couple Arizona's Lake, Carolina. Oh, no. No, I'm saying the Rams, if you're San Francisco, you have to beat them now
Starting point is 00:34:36 because the Rams got a lot of layups down the stretch. That is interesting. Final story, Colin, is the Pickburg Steelers. Yes, we got to say nice things about them, Colin. and big win over the league leading Colts before the game Pittsburgh honored their Super Bowl 40 champs. And Ben Rothesberger was in attendance
Starting point is 00:34:55 as well as Jerome Bettis, the bus. After the game, listen to what Aaron Rogers had major praise for Big Ben. I've known Ben for years and years and years going back to the early Tahoe days, but I enjoy watching him play over the years because he wasn't the fastest guy, but he was hard to take down. He was always swinging that ball around,
Starting point is 00:35:15 and keeping the plays alive. And it's fun. This is a big Ben team. You know, I'm just happy to be a part of the organization, though. This game is, I have no play. First of all, Joe Alt out for the year. So you got T.J. Watt on the end, and the Chargers are missing both their tackles. How is this line three?
Starting point is 00:35:35 What am I missing? I, do you talk about, I said this about the Texans this week when they played. Who did the Texans play this week? Denver, I said, stay away. I have no beat on it. I still think if C.J. Stroud doesn't get knocked out, Texans probably could win that game. I have no beat.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I have not. The Chargers are a team this year because of their tackle situation. I've rarely put them in the Blazing Five. Both their tackles got hurt against the Titans. Both of them. Herbert got dropped five times. Colin, something's telling me that this could be a spot where 70% of the audience at SoFi is Pittsburgh Steelers.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Oh, yeah, yeah. This is going to be a tough one. Big week out here in L.A. You got SOFI for Chargers. You got USC at home on Friday. I may go to that game. USC Northwestern? Well, Wemby in town.
Starting point is 00:36:23 You got the World Series wrapped up. Good time to be an L.A. I said it yesterday. There's no reason to tear down the parade route. There'll be a couple more teams going through it in Los Angeles. It's a good time to be an L.A. sports fan. It really is. Good ownership, smart ownership.
Starting point is 00:36:38 J. Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lye News. Sometimes there's a big story, and I don't think it's even getting as much play as it deserves. And I'll talk about that next. We're in L.A. It's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:37:08 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. but this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey Jonas,
Starting point is 00:37:40 and then I wrote down on my little notepad Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
Starting point is 00:38:08 This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis.
Starting point is 00:38:31 And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset. and what it really takes to win on clay. Jenchian won. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:38:52 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:39:16 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:39:40 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I say, you figure it out. real quick. Ah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Keith Gianmanca seemed like a mild-mannered suburban dad. But secretly, he became someone else, a master of disguise who went on a crime spree. At the time, did it seem like a crazy idea? It seemed very crazy. But I felt so desperate.
Starting point is 00:40:40 that I felt it was the quickest, easiest way out. Did you allow yourself to think about how it could go wrong and what that might look like? No, I didn't want to manifest that. I was trying to manifest success. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life?
Starting point is 00:41:03 That is not the look of an innocent man. This is going to change my life and my family dynamic forever because everything that had existed prior in my reality is now untrue. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Fox Sports proudly salutes our nation's veterans. That is why we are making camo our cause this Veterans Day in support of the Honor U.S. vets campaign. to donate and learn how you can help end veteran homelessness, visit go.
Starting point is 00:41:47 dot fox slash U.S. vets. Make camo your cause. I love that support. My buddy Matt Mosley's a cowboy insider. He's been doing the Doomsday podcast forever. I bring him on the volume, very plugged in, incredibly honest. He is now joining us live from an undisclosed location and probably a nice suburban neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:42:07 That's my guess, Mosley. That's where you're at right now. By the way, you don't have to pass. me on the back or anything, but I'm playing hurt today. But it's going to be a quality start. I'm going to go six innings. So there's no reason to throw any sympathy my way, because I know you would do the same thing. But how are you? Let's start. Let's start after that debacle. How are you, Matt? Doing fine. Yeah, you're no Yamamoto. You're not going to go the distance in this one. But it is great to be with you. And got a couple hours of sleep last night after another cowboy's just
Starting point is 00:42:40 mess and I I fear you thought this thing was going to be hover around 500 is this thing looks so bad right now I don't I don't know if they ever touch 500 again I mean there there's that's really bad we've watched Sean Payton Mike Vrable and Jim Harbaugh take bigger messes than Dallas Mike McCarthy did not leave Dallas a mess the offense was fine and but Jerry goes you know Jerry goes discount coach which I don't understand understand when you're a $10 billion organization, you're paying the coach, you know, 30% below the going rate for a top coach or maybe 50% below. You talked to me about this one time. Why is that? Well, he doesn't respect, and it goes all the way back to Jimmy when he said he could, hey, you know, any coach could lead this team to the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:43:32 And he just hates the only time he spent big and brought in a huge name was Bill Parcells. and he's admitted that that was to get that stadium built. So, you know, the thought like Ben Johnson at Chicago, in his first time as a head coach, is making somewhere in what, the $11 to $13 million a year range, that just, that's sickens Jerry. He can't. The thought of a guy who's never done it,
Starting point is 00:43:58 making that much money, even to this day, even him being a billionaire and talking to the Wall Street Journal about how he just made a billion dollar bet on natural gas, that still kills him. So there's just not the respect level. I think every time there's a Cowboys opening, you think, oh, could he go back to Sean Payton? Could he go to Harbaugh?
Starting point is 00:44:17 Could he go to somebody big? Could he go to Belichick? No, no, those people are too strong of personalities. You always have to find a Schottenheimer who makes him feel comfortable. And then you see, again, I don't put a lot of this on Brian Schottenheimer, but it's very embarrassing. what he's ended up with. And he left this defensive coordinator and this head coach with no pass rush,
Starting point is 00:44:43 no run defense, no secondary. I mean, it's a bad thing. But that's the deal. He's just there's an utter sort of lack of respect for all of coaching, to which is why he just rolls through him and has a new defensive coordinator every year. There's no continuity. Like in a sense, he's sort of the anti-stealers, which is like, That family's all about continuity, maybe too much about continuity.
Starting point is 00:45:12 But Jerry can't do that. He loves to make changes and pointed all the shiny new things. And like even today, you know, what was he doing yesterday? We've got a trade. We've got a trade. Watch our trade. Who is it? Okay, Logan Wilson, another aging linebacker to go along with other aging linebackers on the team that can't tackle.
Starting point is 00:45:33 And, I mean, Logan Wilson got benched. So, I mean, I don't know. Is this supposed to inspire Cowboys fans? I don't think so. So, you know, I've said this. They don't need a quarterback and they have two first-round picks. There's a lot of us that believe on the outside that Jerry, you know, a lot of times there's a sense that the owner has, like Steve Bushotti in Baltimore really does have a lot of say with personnel, but he hides. He doesn't need the vanity of it, but he does.
Starting point is 00:46:01 He makes a lot of decisions in Baltimore, but he doesn't put himself out there. And then there's other owners like the Hunt family that let their guys run the show. They have two first round picks next year. How much of an impact does Jerry have on those? Is it Stephen or is it Jerry who's going to get emotional? I mean, is he make the final call on those picks? He always has the final say, although he can be talked out of things. Famously, there was the Johnny Mansell.
Starting point is 00:46:30 He wanted him. He was upset that and Stephen basically jumped in front of him. of that and wouldn't let him do that. And they ended up with a guy that's going to be in the Hall of Fame as a as offensive lineman. So he does have the final say. He does listen to people more than you would think. Will McLeigh, who's a real good personnel man.
Starting point is 00:46:52 I mean, and they hit on some picks. I mean, there's really no reason to think that with four first round picks over the next two years that they're just going to like whiff on them all. They don't do that. It's more about like getting to the sea. season, never prepared, you know. And then, of course, this famously, infamously, he let this thing with Micah get personal. And, I mean, you know, you saw the result last night. I mean, you saw Jacoby Brissette. Like, if I read off the quarterbacks they played this season, and even the last
Starting point is 00:47:24 two years with this defense, like, they've gotten lucky a lot. They either knock a quarterback out or get to play a second round or get to play a backup. And these guys still throw all over them. I mean, they're lucky and they still can't. They still can't take advantage of it. I mean, you would thought, oh, Jacobi percent. Like, that's what Jerry told me last night. He's like, well, I was so glad. He was very upfront with me.
Starting point is 00:47:47 I was like, I mean, you thought you caught a break avoiding Kyler Murray. He's like, you're right. I thought this was going to be a good thing. Last night, Jerry was just lost. I kind of felt like Jerry is going to this by, like looking for somebody to fire. Like, I don't know who it's going to be. but like he's he had that kind of look at his eye like because he's never going to fire himself
Starting point is 00:48:10 so he has to do other things and do things that grab attention and he hates the thought of not playing because he won't be able to talk he won't be able to I mean I'm sure he'll do some shows I mean literally if you wanted him on this afternoon Colin he'd jump on with you I mean seriously he would find the nearest laptop and jump on with you
Starting point is 00:48:29 he cannot stand the by week because he's out of the picture for a week And so he'll do something this weekend during the games, whether it's a firing, whether it's a position coach getting thrown overboard. He'll do something because right now that's how much he craves attention because he knows the team is in really bad shape. Okay. I want to ask you a question before we go on Archmanning. He had a great game.
Starting point is 00:48:53 And again, a lot of buildup. I mean, Texas coaches, if they lose a game, they're always on the hot seat. Where is Texas now in terms of potential playoff, Archman? Manning, what is the feel in your state on Arch Sark going forward rest of this year? Well, I think it's back up over like 30% chance of getting in. I mean, I'm glad after all the heat he took, he's playing a little bit better. I mean, it is funny. We've come to a point now where we're squeaking out a win at Vandy at home is some kind of
Starting point is 00:49:27 amazing thing. But, hey, Clark Lee, he's done a good job with Vandy. I'm just glad to see that he's actually making some throws, playing with some confidence, and so, yeah, they're in the mix. I mean, the funny thing is, this year, they're the little brother. They're the little brother in the state. And they host, they host Texas A&M to finish this season on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. And, boy, that's going to be fun because that's going to be a massive crowd.
Starting point is 00:49:53 And the Aggies could come in there with such a swagger. They're, you know, Indiana, Ohio State, A&M. those are the three and they're above everybody else. Alabama, I guess, is not far behind. But now Texas is a couple of tiers behind that. But if they, boy, if Texas keeps winning and A&M keeps winning, that right there, a massive in-state rivalry that had a few years off, that's going to be great. And honestly, that's the coach.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Mike Elko's not getting enough attention. That's the coach in Texas right now that is, it's remarkable. It's like the Aggies have stumbled into getting the right coach, the man for the moment. And yeah, but that could end up being an incredible matchup. But I think people are back to think, oh, Texas, look at them, look at them. But I would say like A&M right now, playoff wise, they're in, right? They're 97% in where Texas has still got some, they got a lot of stuff to accomplish before they can get in there.
Starting point is 00:50:55 All right, Matt Mosley, Cowboy Insider, Doom Day podcast. I appreciate it, Matt. We have some breaking news. I'm going to get to my man. Thank you very much, as always, late notice stopping by the herd. You bet. Good to be with you. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:51:08 Adam Schaefter. We've got NFL. It's the trade deadline. This is pricey. The Colts are trading two first round picks to the New York Jets to get Soss Gardner. Now, I mean, the Colts are a very good team. This weekend, they get hammered, and their takeaway is, listen, we got our roster, we got our quarterback, we got our O line. We got Warren.
Starting point is 00:51:29 We got Pittman. We have a corner. We don't have a corner. So they're going to say, the culture is saying, listen, we got the roster. We got the coach. We got everything. We don't have a corner. I will also tell you there is a feeling among NFL executives.
Starting point is 00:51:42 There is a corner shortage in the league. Everybody has a second or third good receiver. Nobody has a second good corner. Many teams don't have a good first corner. So SOSCAR, I got to give the Jets credit on this. Two first round picks. So the Jets now, like the Dallas. Cowboys. The difference is the Jets need a quarterback. So the Jets are mailing in the season.
Starting point is 00:52:04 They're going to have two first round picks next couple of years. They're going to go get a quarterback. And the reason they're doing this is if they end up with a second best record and they really love a quarterback, maybe you move up one spot to get the guy you want. So the Jets are giving up Sauce Gardner for two first round picks. The Seahawks also, Tom Pellasaro, are going to get Rashid Saheed. He's a speed receiver. Sammy Darnold, baby, just got another receiver to go with J.S.N. The Saints are sending their speed receiver. He's an over-the-top guy to the Seahawks.
Starting point is 00:52:43 Ian Rappaport and Tom Pelosarro, guys, nice job on that. So, I mean, I thought Seattle's receiving court was already good. The JSN, we talked about this yesterday. Is he a top two-three receiver in the league? Now they had a speed receiver. again, now you're forcing safeties to play differently against and Sam Darnold's got a big arm.
Starting point is 00:53:06 Donald is a big play quarterback. They just added a big play wide receiver. How good is this? How good is this? Hour 2, Heard hierarchy. Nick Wright. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:53:23 I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:53:32 We just contributed to our first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood.
Starting point is 00:54:36 That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis come in to you, he's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms.
