It's all my favorite time of the year outside of the football season is NFL free agency and NFL draft, and we got a trade today. Just came down 10 minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Live in Chicago, it's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be watching or listening, whatever the platform is, appreciate it. Mark Fue, Gonzaga basketball coach, stopping by today. A couple of weeks away from March Badness. So we had a huge trade one minute before yesterday. show between the Rams and the Chiefs. We've got another one just came
Starting point is 00:03:04 down, Bears and the Buffalo Bill. So everybody has been throwing shade at Brandon Bean, the GM of the Bills. I like the move. He just got DJ Moore, wide receiver, a number one ride receiver who never misses starts.
Starting point is 00:03:19 The dude doesn't miss a start in like five years. DJ Moore worked with Joe Brady, the head coach, the new head coach of the bills in Carolina, and he had his best year. So DJ Moore is absolutely a number one. The bills drafted Luther Burden and Roman Dundsay and they've got Colston Loveland and two back. So Chicago doesn't need, they got to start getting ready. They may have to make another move here. Max Crosby,
Starting point is 00:03:47 maybe need some cap space, but now Buffalo. Buffalo's got their quarterback, they're running back, their left tackle, slot receiver, excellent tight ends. Now they've got their number one. So if Keon Coleman, you know, who knows? Maybe he works, maybe he doesn't. Takes wide receivers a while to work themselves into, you know, high-end luxury play. If he works, great if he doesn't, fine. But look at Buffalo's offense. And they're going to give up mid-round pick, probably give up like a four. But this is a move I like. Then it also creates clarity. Buffalo can now use all their picks on the defensive side because they've got slot, perimeter, young receiver, quarterback that doesn't get hurt much, left tackle, running back,
Starting point is 00:04:32 tight ends, they're set. Nice move. And the Bears, a little cap relief here, maybe big game hunting. And I want to talk about that because the Rams yesterday gave up another first round pick. Now, they still have one left, but they have traded nine of their last 10 first round picks. Yet they're Super Bowl favorites. Yet they have the second most playoff wins outside of Kansas City in the last. eight years, only one losing season. How do they do it? How is it possible? Deepest roster
Starting point is 00:05:02 next to Seattle in the league, maybe Philadelphia, how do they do it? In that same time period, the Jets have had 12 first round picks. The Raiders have had 11 and they both stink. It's not that the Rams undervalue picks, but is it possible the rest of the league mostly overvalues picks? We've talked about this with the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys fall in love with their picks. They don't spend much money in free agency. The Cowboys draft somebody, then they pay them, and they often pay them two or three times. I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:05:38 There are just many ways to be great in this league. The Seahawks do it through the draft and then go small game hunting. The Rams get a lot of picks in the mid-rounds like Puka and Kiron Williams, and then they go big game hunting. The Bonte, Jalen Ram, Matt Stafford, Trent McDuffie yesterday. It's not like the Rams are giving away the first round picks for nothing. They got Gough.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Jalen Ramsey, McDuffie, Matt Stafford. So they're getting something for it. But success and excellence in the NFL, once again, is not just one framework. You know, it cracks me out when you go on TikTok. It's like, here's how to solve your liver. Here's how to absolutely invest. will guarantee a longer life. It's a bunch of grifters.
Starting point is 00:06:27 There's a lot of different ways. Some people have good genetics. Some people have bad genetics. Some people eat like crap and look great at 60. There's no one way to do anything. Hell, Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan both made a Batman movie. They both worked. Okay?
Starting point is 00:06:42 And they were very different. So, you know, the Rams do it one way. They're trading a first rounder. The Buffalo Bills just went out and took a big swing. I would say this with the Chicago Bears. I think part of moving DJ Moore is open up space for Max Crosby. Max Crosby is so much better than anybody you're going to draft at the end of the first round what the Chicago Bears are doing.
Starting point is 00:07:09 So I'm not against or for trading first round picks, but if I get Max Crosby, Jalen Ramsey in his prime, Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Trent McDuffey, absolutely. Okay, so it's funny about this. And we've said this before is that, you know, everybody likes their president that they vote for, right? Everybody hates senators except sometimes their own. You know, we're all that way. So people loved Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan spent a lot of time at the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:07:45 He wants to average 12 free throws a game. Nobody complained. three times Kobe Bryant averaged 10 free throws a game. Nobody complained about it. KD. Crickets. He averaged early in his career over 10 free throws a game. Crickets. His game is fluid.
Starting point is 00:08:05 It's clean. Catch and shoot. Fits everywhere. But people are really up in arms because SGA shoots a lot of free throws. But he's shooting last night, two. in the fourth quarter. That was it. Two.
Starting point is 00:08:24 And I've never heard a guy get more flack for shooting two in the fourth quarter. Here's Nick's coach in a loss, very good game on SGA. One of the areas, obviously, is the free throw line. You know,
Starting point is 00:08:39 SGA is, he's a tough cover. And he does a great job of convincing the referees. Probably better than anybody in the league. that he's getting hit. So what people in the NBA are trying to convince me of is that either the league's rigging it for a skinny kid
Starting point is 00:09:04 who's not very verbal from a tiny market OKC. That's what Adam Silver wants. Let's have our powerhouse be in our smallest market. Or you're trying to convince me that the refs on a nightly basis all get fooled. and I'm not going to go there. If you don't have Shaq's power or LeBron's body or ants vertical and you're $6.6.94,
Starting point is 00:09:29 you have to manipulate and you have to find your game. He's a wiry 6.6 a buck 95. So for the record, 6.6 and a buck, I weigh a buck 95 and I'm 6.1 and a half. He's thin in a pro athlete league. He does get bumped a lot. And also I think when you don't have certain athletic gifts, and he doesn't have big hops, you know, you're not doing Tomahawk slams. Tom Brady, why was he so good pre-snap?
Starting point is 00:10:01 Same with Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, because they had to be. Why was Philip Rivers good pre-snap? Because he had to be. So I think the truth about this with SGA is you don't like his game. You love Michael's game. You love Kobe's game. And they lived at the free throw line. you just don't like his game.
Starting point is 00:10:19 It's not flashy. It's not fun to watch. Right? And it's not. But I mean, Kevin Durant, Michael, Kobe, games people love, lived at the free throw line. You know what I look at SGA?
Starting point is 00:10:31 You know what I see? I see a football player. I see JSN, the wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. Neither are truly gifted athletically. SGA or JSN. Both. though, can manipulate coverage.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Both ascending statistically every year they get better. So they clearly work on their craft. Work ethic, manipulation, IQ, EQ. That's what I see. JSN's always open. And SGA often gets to the free throw line. How? How do they do it?
Starting point is 00:11:07 Because they're smart guys and they use their body and they manipulate other players. When you don't have major hops, you don't worry about getting in the air. you worry about getting other people in the air. So SGA is a great job to compromise defenders. And for the record, SGA's game is very unique. It fooled the Clippers front office. They gave him away. He was only the number 11 draft pick.
Starting point is 00:11:32 So this guy's been fooling the league and tricking the league and making defensive players putting them in compromising spots. Let's give him credit. it's not about the refs it's not about the whistle the clippers good front office didn't see it first 10 picks in the draft did not see it it's like jsn he's arguably the best player out of that draft but he wasn't a burner he doesn't run past people so and i i we you know we love to do that for the record i just i want to show i mean i'm not saying sGA doesn't have style here he was after the game.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Yeah, late game, they were like sending a lot of doubles. And I just felt like I hadn't got a shot in a long time. And I wanted to kind of have my imprint on the game, especially late. So I tried to just, like a screen came, so I tried to reject it to get space. And then OG was like chasing to cut me off. So I knew I had to step back, stepped into it and not you know. By the way, why does some things look so good on some people and so bad on other people? That jacket just would not work with me at all.
Starting point is 00:12:50 But SGA pulls it off. Just like he pulls off, getting to the free throw line about seven, eight, nine times a game or two times in the fourth quarter last night. Let's give him credit and JSN credit for getting open. It's not about the refs deciding we want this kind of quiet guy, skinny guy that's not vertical in tiny Oklahoma City to dominate the league. That's not it. So J-Mack, the Buffalo Bills, everybody crapped on their GM, Brandon Bean. We also have to be fair. If you look at Buffalo this morning, you can look at Baltimore and have questions about Lamar's deal.
Starting point is 00:13:28 You can look at Kansas City and ask, are they the third best team in the division? You look at Buffalo's offense, new stadium, weather's going to be a little better, not as windy. Now they had a number one wide receiver. I'd feel pretty good if I was a Bill's fan. Yeah, for sure. I think this is a big move, especially when you combine it with the Patriot. losing Stefan Diggs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:47 I mean, you look at the Patriots wide receiver room now, and they need a guy, AJ Brown out there on the market. But I think DJ Moore really good get for the bills. I think the Bears don't lose much when you consider Luther Burton, Roma Dundze, the tight end situation.
Starting point is 00:14:00 So I think this is actually one of those rare good deals for both teams. I agree. You know, they say it all the time. Insurance companies aren't in the business of paying you writing a big check for your claim. And we all hope we never have to use
Starting point is 00:14:13 our insurance companies. But they've hired armies of lawyers to make it happen. Their policies are all written in legal jargon on purpose and not for clarity, but for confusion. Have you really looked at your life insurance policy or your auto insurance policy? There are coverage gaps, loopholes, exclusions. You think you're covered, you don't actually know. You would for 27 cents a day if you download my policy advocate.com. Takes five minutes. upload your policies Home Life Auto
Starting point is 00:14:46 upload all of them where are you covered where are you exposed and where can your insurance company deny you five minutes 27 cents a day nobody wants to use an insurance company but when disaster strikes or looms
Starting point is 00:14:59 you don't want surprises don't leave it the chance go to my policy advocate.com hey it's Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington from the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio and in addition to hearing us live weeknights from 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports Radio, we are excited to announce brand new YouTube channel for the show.

We have some big news. What's the news, name?
Starting point is 00:15:57 Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a podcast. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
Starting point is 00:16:15 I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:43 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Agency. The ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud.
Starting point is 00:17:22 Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas, their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the I-Heart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:17:49 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is. Getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is. Getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War. To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history, is you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies.
Starting point is 00:18:36 We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching. You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Joe Dono. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good. advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite,
Starting point is 00:19:41 the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mycultura podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcasts. You're now entering the No Bull Zone sponsored by credible rate rates, none of the Bull. So the Buffalo Bills have already made a move today. Kansas City made a move yesterday. The Rams did to get Trent McDuffie,
Starting point is 00:20:10 and they got all sorts of draft picks. Kansas City got a first round pick, a fifth, a six, a third round picks. Kansas City now has two first round picks, and they've got a couple of needs, but everybody is Barry in Kansas City. and my take is people did this with the Rams, but they had Stafford and they had Sean McVeigh.
Starting point is 00:20:31 And they went a Super Bowl, they go five and 12, everybody's beat up, and then all of a sudden next three years, playoffs, in a great division. And now they're favored to win the Super Bowl next year. Don't bury Kansas City. It's like a real estate. If you got an Ocean View and a good school district, I don't care what the economy's doing nationally. Yours is not going to go through the floor.
Starting point is 00:20:53 You're okay. Kansas City with two first round picks, and I believe now Kansas City is on a short list of teams that will move up in this draft, potentially move up. Most people want to move down because it's considered an okay draft. Kansas City at nine, now they've got a couple of fives. Okay, now Kansas City's got two ones. would not be shocked if Kansas City moved up three or four spots and got Jeremiah Love the running back out of Notre Dame problem solved in the backfield.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Next pick, get a tackle. Next pick after that, get a corner to replace Trent McDuffie. I think you'll be good. So it's just funny to watch everybody Barry, and I said this, when you have the head coach and the quarterback right, you can heal. The skin heals very quickly. I mean, a great example of that. Vrable ends up with Drake May, awful to Super Bowl. Chicago, train wreck to a play from the NFC championship.
Starting point is 00:21:54 So you give me Andy Reed and you give me Patrick Mahomes. If they nail their first two picks, by the way, moving off McDuffie, they may be able to afford Walker, the running back out of Seattle. I think they're going to be fine. Here's Albert Breer yesterday on why Kansas City traded McDuffie, a great corner. They've drafted and developed pretty well the last few years. And, you know, so that's meant negotiating. new contracts with these guys and some of them you get done and some of them you don't.
Starting point is 00:22:24 So this sort of sets up like the Tyreek Hill deal did, right? Like where the Tyreek Hill deal gave them an opportunity to reset a bunch of things in their roster. So they've got two first, a second, a third, a fourth, three, fives, and a six. Watch them play around with their three fives and a six to move up. Get the tackle, get the running back, get the corner. I'm not Barry in Kansas City. Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:22:50 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, Colin, let's start with this DJ Moore trade. It's weird. Like, they announce, you know, these reporters are tripping over themselves to announce. We got a trade. We don't even know what the compensation was. They're calling it mid-round comp.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Could be a third, fourth, fifth. I guess we've got to wait to find out. Obviously, it's a good move for Buffalo adding a top-tier receiver. I don't know. You called him a one? Oh, I don't know. I don't know that it matter. Low end one, high two.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I don't know. We're talking about a guy who had 600 yards last year. Yeah, but he also, a lot of that's because the Bears' quarterback runs, two good backs, two tight ends, other good receivers. That's not because they don't like him. It's because they're fairly stacked on offense. I like this move by Ryan Poles, the Bears GM. They want to clear up some space. They got to fix their defensive line.
Starting point is 00:23:41 They need more edge pressure. They need probably a safety and a corner. They've got to get faster at linebackers. So their issues are defensive. So if they get it, let's say they get a fourth round pick and a six. You know what? It's a numbers game. More picks.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Better chance you hit a few of them. So I like it a lot for Buffalo and I like it a lot for Chicago. I really do. Yeah. Now the only thing with Buffalo, let's remember that game against Denver in the playoffs, they couldn't get any stops. That's the reason they lost that game. Like Josh Allen can you manufacture offense.
Starting point is 00:24:12 So I like it. I'm just curious what the Bears are going to end up doing in the a draft, Colin. So we like their receivers, right? Burden and Adunze, two young, good, cheap receivers. Do they need like a veteran? Do they need one other guy? Because you said yesterday the Rams have Devante and Puka, and they need another receiver. Do the bears, do they fall into that same situation? Well, no, the bears need an edge rusher and a center. I mean, I, I mean, Romadunze, Luther Burden. I mean, they've shown an ability to find skill people. You know, they'll probably, again, if they get a mid-round fourth, go get another wide receiver. But,
Starting point is 00:24:47 I think their offense is fine. They do have to get a center. But the good news, they have Joe Tuny and Jonah Jackson on both sides, so they're fine. But Drew Dalman was a pro bowler, so they got to get that fixed. But, you know, I think Chicago and Buffalo have to feel pretty good today. Certainly. All right, let's move on to the next story, sticking in the AFC East.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I alluded to this earlier. The Patriots have dumped Stefan Diggs, the troubled wide receiver. I didn't realize this. He's 32 years old. This guy's getting up there in age. And we know off the field he's an absolute disaster. You know, was he a problem this year for New England? On the field?
Starting point is 00:25:25 No, he was good. He delivered on the field. He was a solid receiver. Well, what did he do off the field? Well, he got in trouble with the law. And he's got, you know, a court situation. He's got the girlfriends. This guy's been on three teams and three years, Colin.
Starting point is 00:25:36 He's gone. It's over for him in New England. I don't know what kind of market there is for him. I think the bigger question is, what do the Patriots do to fill that void? And everybody's going to say, A.J. Brown, I think that's almost too obvious at this point, right? I wonder if some people are speculating, maybe they throw a Hail Mary. They've got a lot of cap room, given the quarterback on the rookie deal.
Starting point is 00:25:57 Do they go after Pierce that stretch the field receiver from Indy? I like Pierce a lot. I think that's a good call. Listen, they've got to get their offensive line right. They need an edge rusher. Pierce would be a good fit for me. I like him. So the problem is the numbers that are being thrown around are a little goofy.
Starting point is 00:26:15 They're like, oh, yeah, he could get $30 million a year. I'm like, whoa, hold on, what? Like, listen, he's a good stretch to feel guy. He was fantastic with Daniel Jones throwing the deep ball. Drake May throws a great deep ball. It feels like a natural fit, but 30 mil? I honestly think the young receivers for New England probably well coached get better. My take is, if you get the offensive line right in New England,
Starting point is 00:26:41 you won't have to worry as much about wide receiver. That's a good point. They got to a Super Bowl with a very average O-line, and J-MAC, that is hard to do. Cincinnati did that with Burrow, and New England did it. It's hard to get playoff Ws with an average O-line. So my take, if they significantly upgrade their offensive front, New England's going to be fine. Now, I totally forgot this. Last year, the Patriots were rumored to have made a play at Chris Godwin.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Well, his teammate Mike Evans is on the market. Mike Evans, now he's a great. Great red zone target would be awesome. Yeah. We know he's a very talented player. Older, good red zone guy. Interesting. So Patriots got options and they got the quarterback on the rookie deal.
Starting point is 00:27:23 Final story, Colin, is baseball team USA. Yep. Oh my gosh, they're just hammering teams. Beat the Giants, 15 to 1, scored 14 on the Rockies in exhibition play. They took on Brazil tomorrow at 8 Eastern on Fox. It should be a very good game. And we've already had two good games in pool play. South Korea beat Czech.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Check GF 114 in Australia shut out Chinese Taipei 30. Obviously, everybody's fired up to see Otani. Tomorrow morning, 5 a.m. Eastern on FS. I think this was a smart buy-by-us. I'll be honest with you. I don't want to suck up the bosses. But there's one or two things, if I ran a sports network that are under the radar that I would spend money on. This is actually, especially coming in an Olympic year, this is a winter Olympic year.
Starting point is 00:28:12 People are into the patriotism. I think people will enjoy that. I bet you this does better than people think. I think it's going to do well. Yeah. I mean, listen, you got the big names, right? Judge Otani. Bryce Harper.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Yeah. Yeah. Jay McHarker. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News. It's interesting. We had Rick Petino on yesterday, and he was great.
Starting point is 00:28:34 And by Gonzaga's standards, even though they've won, I think, 22 or 23, they're 28 and 3. They're kind of under the radar. for Gonzaga standards. And Mark Few, who has a pretty high standard himself, two-time national coach of the year. You know, I had Petino one yesterday. He's a pretty good coach. I'm not sure you heard of him. He's a pretty good coach. And I asked him, I said, you know, a lot of these guys get older and they get out of this business. And I'm like, you're still firing away. And he's like, listen, you got to adapt. He goes, I've got guys from Ghana and Europe. He's got five continents. and you still have amazing energy.
Starting point is 00:29:12 And I think knowing you a little bit, I think one of the things you're good is adaptability. So and Petino kind of laughed at it. It was like I got so many European players. Give me, if I said to you over the last three years, Mark, you've had to adapt with something with the NIL and transfer board. What is the one thing you've had to totally adapt to? Well, first of all, great job kissing up to the bosses and name drop.
Starting point is 00:29:39 in the last, you know, 45 seconds. Mission accomplished. Well, awesome question. Hard to maybe say the one thing. You know, I would say kind of the, you know, as you know, following us all these years. We redshirt guys and we got them in our program three, four, five years.
Starting point is 00:30:03 And that was the standard, right? And now kind of looking around, I got a bunch of one year guys that are either freshman or transfers and maybe a two-year guy here and there. But yeah, just the general continuity in college basketball. And that can be also due to guys leaving early for the NBA and all that. But that's been the hardest thing, I think, is just always fighting for your culture, even though like you're looking around and like you've got to explain it to these guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:31 You know, they haven't experienced it yet. Yeah. You know, your front court scoring is big this year, not as much in the back court. And when I think of Gonzaga, I kind of always think of balance from the bench on. But it feels like to me a lot of your scoring this year is front court instead of back court. Does that, you know, everybody talks about guard play in the tournament. Does that concern you at all? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:30:58 Yeah, yeah, it does. And our back court play has been spectacular at times and then not so spectacular at times. And so it does. But, you know, I think back to your point about adaptability. I think, you know, over the years we've been front court dominated. We've been back court dominated. We've been great balance dominated. Everything of that 21 team.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And, you know, this year we got a fantastic interior player in Graham E.K. We had two of them with Braden Huff and Graham. Ram E.K. I think that's probably calling them been the biggest story to us this year. We've never faced the level of adversity via injuries that we have this year. I mean, Bradenhoff's a national
Starting point is 00:31:42 caliber award guy. And for him to be out this long, and then we've lost Jalen Worley, and we even lost E.K. for a while. Yep. So it's been really strange. Petino was saying yesterday with the NIL bringing kids from Europe over that he doesn't remember college basketball being this deep and
Starting point is 00:31:58 strong. I watched Michigan last Friday play Illinois. It's like an NBA. They're huge. So you guys played them and got kind of rolled. I mean, I don't sure how you prepare for them. What did you make of Michigan the odds on favorite? Well, they were terrific the night we played them.
Starting point is 00:32:19 The one thing they did that night that I think is they're just their slightest little hiccup in their, you know, team. And it's not really even a hiccup. but they shot the ball extremely well. They shot the cover off against us. And Dusty even said so afterwards. But their size, you're so right, is, I mean, it's NBA level size, quite frankly, with the bodies and everything. They're playing, you know, Luxembourg at the three, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:47 and he's probably 6'9, 250 or something. And great size around the rim, great plan, move the ball really well. They were spectacular in transition. back then. And again, you know, in that game, you're three games and three days. I don't really have a whole lot of time to prepare for them. The teams in their league have started the kind of game plan for them a little bit.
Starting point is 00:33:09 They're good. Tommy, my old assistant, Tommy Lloyd's having a great year at Arizona. They're very, very good. There's some really, really nice teams out there.
Starting point is 00:33:17 When we get totally healthy, I think we can compete with any of them. You know, but in the meantime, I give this group a lot of credit, man. We've just been hanging in there winning games, even though we've been down some pretty key personnel.
Starting point is 00:33:29 By the way, I was thinking about you the other day because Shoshchevsky put you and Beheim. You know, you guys were the Olympic coaches. You guys have always, you and Beheim are close. And Beheim got a lot of crap, but I'll say this for Beheim. He leaves Syracuse. Well, what happened to Syracuse? There are, and I asked you once about John Colopery and you're like, you guys, he's a great coach. It's funny that people get certain labels in coaching.
Starting point is 00:33:55 And now all you college guys, I think college feels a little more. more pro with all the international stuff. Has it changed you as a coach dealing, sometimes there's language barriers. A lot of the European guys aren't used to, they're not as good defensively. Petino said some of these guys couldn't guard me. Has it changed you as a coach? No, I mean, I hate to just, you know, as you know, just throw out stereotypes and generalize. You know, a subonis was a fierce, fierce, tough as they come.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Brunowski was, you know, made his big impact on the defensive end as anybody. He might even been a defensive player of the year, and that year he should have been. So, you know, it's individual to individual. I would say having done and have all the great experiences with USA basketball, this high turnover rate to what you said, the adaptability, boy, you sure learn from those guys, you know, how to adapt. You know, their rosters are always changing at the NBA level and guys are out and load managing and doing all this. Oh, that's really helped, I think, and just maybe a little more patience and maybe understanding that, hey, you know, we're not going to click like maybe our 21 team did or our 19 team or whatever.
Starting point is 00:35:21 But, you know, there are some things we do really, really well that are a little different maybe than some of those teams. We're a really, really good defensive team this year. It's a little bit underrated. The NIL, has it made some players harder to coach? You know, I was really leery of that and watching it really closely. And in my experience, no. You know, I mean, it's just, now listen, man, it is a royal pain in the rear here when we hit the offseason. Like, you wouldn't believe.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Because literally, we have no rules. I mean, you could sign with me tomorrow and then sign with somebody else a week from now. And so we literally have no rules right now. I think that's the hardest thing, this roster building. But you know what? Once you get into your mode, you have your team in the fall and you start practicing,
Starting point is 00:36:16 I haven't noticed any difference along those lines. You know, there is, Colin, though, this. There is the difference of, You know, I mean, you're not maybe quite as hard on guys as used to be back in the past challenging them and stuff. Yeah, because they can bail. But you know, I mean, you don't recruit, I mean, you don't recruit a lot of high maintenance guys. I mean, yeah, you don't have that. That's not really your, I mean, if you go to Gonzaga, you got to leave your ego at the door.
Starting point is 00:36:47 I mean, I, you know, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, and listen, I now hate to go into a shameless self-promotion or something here. but we have this wonderful documentary that just was done on Gonzaga basketball. And they premiered it the other night and I watched it. And it brought home so many of these points of what our program is all about, you know. And one of it was that was, you know, we don't deal with high maintenance. And, you know, you're here to, you know, there's a culture here and there's a family atmosphere here.
Starting point is 00:37:20 There's a work ethic here that's just innate and everybody just kind of buys into it. It was great to have our current guys sit through that thing and watch it. So many of them, you know, you think they know it, but they don't. And I don't want to bore you. But the best story I got out of that, we have a transfer, Ty on Grant Foster. And I said, Ty, what was the biggest thing you took out of that? And he's like, coach, man, I couldn't believe. Adam Morrison was at the thing last night, you know?
Starting point is 00:37:49 And I was like, Ty, you know, he's our radio guy. is at half our meals on the road and walking around here. And he's around the gym. He's like, I didn't even recognize him. He remembered him with long hair and a mustache, and he had no idea. I don't know. So sometimes it's good to be just reminded of what this place has been all about, what it stands for, and why we've kind of had the run we've had.
Starting point is 00:38:15 I don't even know how old you are. You're in great shape, and you're like you work out and you bike everywhere. How long are you going to do this? oh man as long as it's it's still you know something i'd say something that you enjoy and how can you not enjoy you know being around athletics like you you know like you too you know we're around you get to talk about it you're around it all the time um you know i i would say when as long when i quit feeling like maybe i'm having as big impact on them and and and not you know helping them grow as much as you can i'd say that would be that that's going to be the big
Starting point is 00:38:50 kind of flexion point for me. Who's the best player you play this year in the sport? Single best player you faced. Oh man, Lexenborg was terrific against us. He hit the first jump shot right in front of me and was just physically I thought he was the best. We haven't teed it up against any of these freshmen. They're having some great years.
Starting point is 00:39:16 But, you know, there's some veterans out there that are having some great years that I think are getting a little overlooked with all this freshman hype. Yeah. Hey, do you, I'm not into this tournament expansion. I don't like it. I don't even like the first four nonsense. Start on Thursday, 64 teams, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Don't confuse my small brain. I don't want it. What do you make of expansion? I'm with you on it. I don't think it needs to be watered down anymore. And I, you know, I don't want to dilute the regular season. You know, I want this last month where people are really sweating it. and scratching to get into this thing and make it something that's really, really prestigious
Starting point is 00:39:57 to just to get into, to have your name called on Selection Sunday. That's still a big thing to me to see Gonzaga pop up there on Selection Sunday. And I think, you know, adding more is just going to water it down. His winning percentage is 83%. That's pretty good. Oh, you see Kevin Durant said he plans to play. playing the Olympics in Los Angeles. You know KD pretty well.
Starting point is 00:40:23 What was he like to coach? Awesome. Just an awesome, awesome guy. Just a wonderful player and just a great teammate. He was so great as a teammate. And the synergy between him and Anthony Edwards was just priceless. Anthony Edwards grew up idolized in KD. And they were kind of on the floor together.
Starting point is 00:40:50 a lot with one of our groups and it was fun to watch even aunt kind of defer to him a little bit and get such great joy when he saw kd hit a jumper and just you know step's threes and uh you know lu l cinder sky hook kevin durance pull-up man has to go down as one of the most legendary you know iconic shots in in all of basketball history i think it's as about as automatic as you can get. Yeah, I said if you take out centers and you had an all-time one-on-one tournament, I would take KD to even beat MJ because I don't think MJ could stop him. And I don't think LeBron could shoot with him. I think KD individually is as good an offensive player. I'm not talking about, you know, I don't want Shaq in my one-on-one tournament or Kareem. But if you took
Starting point is 00:41:37 all the other players, I've never seen a guy score. Maybe you have because you coach pros. And it looks so easy. You can give him the ball in the last second and a half. half of the shot clock. He gets an effortless jumper. He can get it off on anybody anytime he wants. You know, you can get that shot off. No matter what defense you're in. But, but let's pause for us. Let's not discount. You know, LeBron in one-on-one, he's still got that heart. He still got that brain. He still got that toughness. I wouldn't count him out on any sport where you're keeping score. Mark Few, Gonzaga coach. As always, you know, it's okay to suck up to your bosses once in a while.
Starting point is 00:42:17 You don't have to suck up to your AD. I'm still just trying to get by here and get a check. All right. We're in different worlds. Yeah. Right. Killing it in the ratings thing, demanding a move to Chicago.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Like I say you're doing okay for yourself. Congratulations, dude. Hey, I'm going to the state tournament today in Washington. You remember those days? Where is it at? St. Mary's UPS. Tacoma Dome. Tacoma Dome.
Starting point is 00:42:42 So, yeah. I figured you'd remember those days back in the old Stolphing, Oh, yeah. Boy, I'd get on a heater. You couldn't stop me. That's for sure. A little crossover pull-up. Couldn't stop me. All right. That's right. Good seeing you, Mark. Yeah, you too, Colin. Yeah. I remember, yeah, the Tacoma Dome. That when I was really young, there was no Tacoma Dome. It was the King Dome. Then they built the Tacoma Dome and they put all the high school state championships in there. Okay, it is a done deal. The Bills deal's a done deal. Bears got a second and a fifth. Bears got a second round pick off DJ Moore. Wow, a second and a fifth. So the Bears now, hold on.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Oh, wait, hold on. DJ Moore and a fifth for the second. The bills are sending a 2026 second round pick to the bears. Okay. So basically, Chicago's going to have a first and two seconds and a third. That's the key. the four top picks for the Bears. I mean, Colin, this is a horrible deal for the bills.
Starting point is 00:44:03 What happened to mid-round compensation? A second-round pick for DJ Moore? What does that mean A.J. Brownsworth? I'm stunned. I'm stunned. Holy cow. That's a lot for DJ Moore. So the bill's got DJ Moore and a fifth round pick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:19 And the Bears got a second round pick for DJ Moore who had 600 yards and six touchdowns. He's a good receiver, but a second round pick? That seems really rich, Colin. Holy cow. I don't know. A second round pick, that's huge value. You could get receivers down. If I said DJ Moore had 850 yards.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Remember, he had his best year under Brady down in Carolina. If I said DJ Moore had 850 yards and six touchdowns, you'd be like, okay, second round pick who hit about 57% of the time, 60% of the time, that's, I don't know. I mean, listen, I like, I like. proven stars who don't miss games. That's fair. That's DJ Moore. He hasn't missed a start in forever.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Does this speak to a desperation level that the Bears would give up a second round pick for DJ? The Bills. Sorry, the Bills, we'd give up a second round pick for DJ Moore. I'm going to say desperation. It's a need. Well, they clearly didn't have the ammo for A.J. Brown. So they're like, all right, well, we'll go for DJ more. Woo!
Starting point is 00:45:21 In Chicago, it's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:45:45 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:46:00 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it. one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:46:21 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Agency. the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body.
Starting point is 00:46:41 On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health.
Starting point is 00:47:00 These are real, honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud. totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas, their practices.
Starting point is 00:47:24 And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed. And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place. As long as there's a politics of race in America, there's going to be a politics of remembering the Civil War.
Starting point is 00:47:54 To get to school, I had to go down Robert Lee Boulevard. Get to the grocery store, I had to go down Jefferson Davis Parkway. If you're an historian and you leave out half of what the history is, you're not doing your job. I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 goes deep on both of those things. The fights, the politics, the people who won, and my personal campaign to add something to the Kentucky State House that's actually worth the wall space. We are more than our bodies. We contain essence. We contain spirit. How do you represent that? They are just fueling a fire that is really catching.
Starting point is 00:48:28 You'll see what I mean. Listen to Rebel Spirit Season 2 on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever. you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody!
Starting point is 00:48:44 Please! But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Sike! I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice.
Starting point is 00:49:17 One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrat as part of the Mike Coutura podcast network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:49:35 wherever you get your podcasts. Yesterday, the big trade, Rams, getting Trent McDuffie, giving up a first round pick to the Chiefs. The big deal today, the Bears get a second round pick, trading DJ more to Buffalo. So Buffalo and the Rams feel they're in the Super Bowl bubble. The Rams were missing a top corner. They go buy one.
Starting point is 00:50:01 The Bills, missing a number one receiver, they go buy one. I like what the Rams did. I like what the Bills did. And now that Drew Dahlman's retired, the Bears get another second round pick. Bears are going to go edge, corner, interior old lineman, you know, maybe another defensive tackle, maybe a safety. We know what the bears need. They need an edge rusher, another corner, and some speed at linebacker. Now they need a center. So, you know, I said it yesterday. I think they're still not done. If I was the Bears,
Starting point is 00:50:33 I'd get it my first round pick. Once you have the quarterback, first round picks are not as valuable. first round picks if you don't have a quarterback because you got to be better everywhere else. But once you have a Stafford or an Allen, first round picks aren't as valuable. Caleb Williams, you can move on. So I'd give up two first for Max Crosby. If that was the bottom line, I'd give up. Remember, the bears are going to be good. So they're giving up a late first this year.
Starting point is 00:50:58 It'll be a late first next year. That's Death Valley. That's no man's land for a general manager as being 20th pick and beyond. That's a second round talent. you're paying a first round price. So to get Max Crosby for a couple of like 20th and 20 next year, it'll be the 26th pick. No problem whatsoever. Rams have been doing it.
Starting point is 00:51:19 They've mastered it. It doesn't matter. Go big game hunting. Watch the Rams. You get a smart offensive coach. Get a star quarterback. You don't need first round picks nearly as much. Again, when you don't have the quarterback, you do because you have to be better on defense.
Starting point is 00:51:33 You have to be better running the football. So, by the way, Miles Garrett got his ninth speeding ticket in the last eight years for the Cleveland Browns. You know, there's nothing you can do. What are the repercussions? Best player easily, dysfunctional franchise, head coaches don't last, quarterbacks don't last. You know, what are they going to do? He's a great player. And I always had, I told us, I told everybody this morning, the more boring the city you live in, you have to manufacture fun.
Starting point is 00:52:06 and, you know, he's driving 100 miles an hour and a 60, and it's like, you know, not very responsible, but it's the Browns. And I also think sometimes if you have a chance to be a little squirly as a player in bad judgment, if you're in a winning organization, you kind of join the winning current. You know, the Rams don't have a lot of guys get in trouble. You know, the San Antonio Spurs, most of that franchise, they're not getting a lot of guys in trouble. You kind of join the winning current.
Starting point is 00:52:35 What happens when you're easily the best player? I mean, between the Jets and the Browns, one playoff win in 30 years combined. What are they going to say to Miles Garrett? He is the standard. I mean, he is the standard. And nobody else there can live up to his standard. Hour two on a Thursday, Nick.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:53:07 Nice. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:53:28 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to you. He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your husband is not who you think he is. Your body is not what you thought it was. Your identity
