This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with
Robert Smygel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling

cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real
story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Winning on Clay is an art.
The rallies are relentless.
And at the French Open, only the toughest survive.
I'd know.
I competed there for decades.
Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast for no nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players,
and the moment set to find Roland Garris.
Jen, she's an outsider to win the French fame.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lernerabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now
and actually can win on any surface.

Oh, it is Thursday, and a great day. We are live, and it is The Herd, wherever.
here in August. You are listening or watching. There's a lot of choices. Thanks for making us part of your day. Hey, we get Greg CoSell. We might as well start it now. Greg CoSell stopped by in one hour from today. We put them off for about 20, 22 straight weeks during the football season, early, middle, and late. And Greg CoSell will join us in one hour. It's one of my favorite 15-minute segments. Every football season, we do it on Thursdays.
J-MAC, you used to be in a business, kind of a blogosphere, and most of the, oh, 99% of those things did not do well.
And I remember when I spotted your site, I had told friends, I said, I like the McIntyre site because you can tell he's like, he can break stories.
He's like serious.
He's not doing silly stuff.
Like, there's like serious stories here.
It's sourced.
And I want to start my show talking about that
because it was one of the things I noticed
before we had even met
a blogosphere can be just nonsense and whimsical
and yours wasn't it.
You were breaking stories.
And that's kind of a theme today for quarterback.
So I saw this headline from Archie Manning
and he says,
Arch will not turn pro next season.
He'll be at Texas for the next two years.
Yeah, that's what you have to say.
If he beats Ohio State and Columbus, wins the Heisman or doesn't, and gets into the national
championship game, it would be really bad business to stay in college.
And I know almost every Manning pretty well.
They're good at business.
And they say the right thing when they have to.
College sports for truly gifted athletes, like a Cooper flag, it's like that first.
really cool apartment you live in when you make a little money and you're like,
I'm never leaving this place.
And then eventually you get a real job with a VP in the title and you don't want to share
walls or the pool and you forget about it really quickly.
Arch Manning made $6.5 million last year at Texas, NIL reportedly.
Cam Ward made 48.7 guaranteed number one pick.
Arch, can I interest you in a $42 million loan?
Hook what?
Yeah.
This is the classic Manning's saying the right thing.
And a lot of times in society, I mean, I think the term is true, but I get tired of it, woke.
Well, you're just not being honest.
You know, when you're really important, sometimes J.D. Vance should not talk about ever being a president.
keep it to yourself
LeBron,
Manning's, Mahomes,
Brady, I've seen Mahomes step to the microphone
and just say
the right thing,
not necessarily the most honest,
authentic thing. That's what
happens. And the Manning family
is American football royalty.
So this is exactly what
you say. We, Cooper
Flagg said it. Oh, Duke.
And then he talked to Nike,
and then you're the number one.
And here's 56 large.
I love Duke so much.
I'll go visit when they play Carolina if I have time.
Arch Manning, if he's as good as I think he is, he's got to go pro.
I know Cooper, I know Eli, I know Peyton, I know Archie, and I don't know Arch.
But Sark, talking about Arch, sounds a lot like Cooper and Eli and Peyton Manning.
his work ethic is incredible
whether it's
you know studying tape
studying film studying the playbook
working at his craft
you know
in the wait room
like that note that is
whether it's innate in him
or
it was you know
handed down from his uncles
whatever it was
his work ethic is really
pretty incredible
and that lends itself
to the teammate that he is too
and that's an interesting
way to
to describe him jumping into my next segment.
Now, I will tell you, 90% of you will disagree with his take, and I've been doing this for 25 years.
I believe in it strongly and always have.
So, did you notice when Sark talked about Arch?
And oh, by the way, Eli Manning could be funny on Saturday Night Live.
But if you described Peyton Manning, you would say,
intense. Bill Polly in one city was a teeth clencher. If you're describing Tiger Woods, you'd be like,
like, obsessed, intimidating. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Brady. It's not a coincidence that the
greatest athletes of my life are borderline crazy, obsessed, serious people. And I am hoping when
Shadour Sanders plays tomorrow night. I can't wait to watch. I'm rooting for them. I mean,
I don't like the speeding tickets, but they lead me to my topic today. It is totally unfair
that at 23 years old, as an NFL quarterback, you are held to a totally different standard,
not only from every 23-year-old you know, but from every 23-year-old professional athlete.
You have to be 23 going on 43.
Not even 33.
Because some of you are still doing shooters at, you know, Captain Fandangos on a Friday night, right?
Like, I know where you're out.
You're doing stuff that's really not appropriate.
You hope your boss doesn't walk in, right?
At 33, at 43, hopefully you have kids, you're a grown-up, you're a vice president, you're not doing it.
Quarterback in the NFL, it's almost unfair.
Jalen Hertz is 27.
He acts 47.
I've never seen a quarterback that good at the podium, ever.
He is the best quarterback I've ever seen at the podium.
He surpasses the second best I've ever seen.
Dak Prescott.
No jokes.
They're like accountants.
Should bring a briefcase.
And this is something that's always bothered me about Shadour.
and Miles Garrett was asked to describe his personality.
Here it is.
I mean, he's funny.
He's optimistic, lighthearted.
He's funny!
James Winston was funny.
Drew Locke was lighthearted.
Cam Newton is the best college football player I have ever seen.
He was the size of a defensive end, but he was playful.
Drew Locke, remember that piece of video?
That's all I needed to see.
I know all your frat bros, they loved it.
I get it.
The Siget bros absolutely love that.
I get it.
It's not what I want.
Dak Prescott, his rookie year,
it may have been preseason or it was early in the season did something.
And you guys made fun of it.
But there was a piece of garbage on the field behind the cowboy bench.
He's in the middle of a game.
and he walked by it and turned around, grabbed it and put it in the garbage.
And I'm like, oh, that's a grown-up.
He understands.
It's like when you go to a funeral.
Don't smile and don't laugh.
You have to be on.
Dak Prescott understands.
I'm the cowboy quarterback.
I am always on.
Years ago in the Patriots building, they did a little test.
This is true story.
They would randomly put stuff on the floor to see if people picked it up when they interviewed them.
To this day, when I have.
walk down the halls of Fox.
Just in case my bosses are watching.
I owe a stop and pick up a piece of garbage.
It matters.
And it's unfair.
I don't want my quarterbacks to be,
as Miles Garrett said,
fun, lighthearted.
I'm not interested in lighthearted at all.
James Winston, the best thing he's ever done,
worked for Fox.
He was funny.
He also threw 30 picks a year.
It's not fair, but the Harbaugh's.
Nick Sabin,
Sean Payton are almost offensively intense.
I mean, there are times Nick Saban's so intense, it's intimidating.
And yet Nick Saban is 5'6.
Did you know that?
He plays really big.
Sean Payton, I'm much taller than he is.
He feels bigger than I do.
I don't want my quarterbacks to be fun, lighthearted, and in the draft room put legendary.
It was also fun in that car doing 104 in a 45.
I'm sorry, but it matters.
I like the traits of Shadur Sanders.
I like his size.
I think he's more mobile than people say.
I think he throws a beautiful football off-platformer on it.
I think he's a much better pro prospect than Dylan Gabriel.
Obviously, many of you disagree.
But one of the things that's always bothered me, he's kind of silly.
I don't want silly.
I'm not interested in it silly.
There's so many things, pedigree, size, accuracy I like about him.
but it's just one of those things.
It is just, there was a, I'll give you another example.
I don't love Brock Purdy, but there was a moment with Brock Pretty.
He was at a concert about a year ago with George Kittle.
George Kittle is shotgun and beers.
And oh, by the way, Brock Purdy, just like a funeral, don't laugh, you're always on.
Brock Purdy carried the beers in.
He wouldn't bite.
He wouldn't bite.
He didn't want that meme.
Nothing.
Let the crazy tight end do it.
I'm not biting.
He's going, yeah, George, you keep doing it.
He wouldn't do it.
He didn't want that anywhere.
Because if you do that and people see it and you go on a four-game losing streak,
the GM sees it.
And by the way, I will get three to four text today from GMs.
And they'll be like, you're absolutely right.
And every time I do that stuff, I get texts.
is that most 23-year-olds are listening saying,
that's ridiculous.
It is in 98% of the work environments in the country.
But one of the things that impressed me about DAC and Jalen Hertz,
it's not how they throw it from the pocket.
I've said this about Tua.
Tua's a grown-up.
Tyree Kill isn't.
Hertz is unbelievable.
When people say Lamar Jackson,
he gets tight in the playoffs.
Yet damn right he does because he cares so much.
Lamar Jackson gets furious at Lamar Jackson.
It's one of my favorite traits.
And I do think he gets tight in the playoffs.
And I do think Peyton Manning did for years.
If the biggest fault is, dude is really intense.
Sign me up for that.
Sign me up for Lamar Jackson and early Peyton Manning.
But there's that Drew Locke video, keeping it real, man.
I got the vibes.
And you all loved it.
and I couldn't stand it.
And it was only 10 seconds.
And I'm like, dude, do that at home.
You're on.
You're smiling at a funeral.
You're trying to be the face of a franchise.
I don't like it.
I wouldn't like my GM doing it.
I wouldn't like my head coach doing it.
Remember that Shadur Flacco thing?
There was a little piece of video
with Shadour and Flacco here in camp.
And it's not the end of the world.
Nobody's saying it is.
As I always say, everything's something,
nothing's everything.
But remember that little piece of video
Do we have the sound up on that one?
Flacco and Shadour and Shadur is asking him about dancing.
Do we have that?
You ever hit that then?
What's that?
Definitely not.
I don't know if I've ever heard a public dance move in my life.
Joe Flacko's been to a Super Bowl and won a Super Bowl.
And if I recall he was the MVP of the Super Bowl, it matters.
It leads to me.
All right.
The hate mail will be flying in and keep it coming because it is a thing.
It really is a thing.
And it just is one of those things.
I think about it all the time.
And there are different times in life.
By the way, I've joked about this for years.
Whenever I'm hiring a young person, like 20 or 30, I don't want somebody that loves golf.
Now, by the time you get gray hair and you're old, I don't care.
Old guys, I'm really into golf the last three years.
The grayer my hair gets, but I'm out of that space now.
But when you're 20 and 30 and you're not making much, and I need you to work 55 to 60 hours a week, I'm not working that much anymore.
I got a bigger staff.
But when I used to be in this business looking for young people, I didn't mind what your hobbies were.
I didn't want golfers.
I didn't want golfer because golf has an addictive quality.
I'm going through that now over the last three years.
Once the number is six, that's different than two, three on the name, on the number.
And so I will say this, the Brock Purdy thing really struck me.
I was like, you can say what you, and I've never been a huge Brock Pretty guy,
but one of the things Sam Darnold said about him, like one of the reasons that Kyle Shanahan
was so impressed with him is his maturity.
They were like, he's just not your typical 24-year-old.
And maybe that's unfair, but it's really impressive.
Part of what NFL teams do, they have these conversations.
Can we hand the keys of our franchise to this young guy?
That is a conversation networks have that I've worked at.
Can we give this person their own show?
It's his show.
It's his staff.
We can't babysit him.
We're not there every day.
Can you give the keys to the franchise?
And you watch Brock Purdy and like, he knew.
Come on, George.
Couple more.
He wouldn't bite.
He would not bite.
Jemak, when you go,
get your show someday. That marquee, you're going to have to settle down because you are a wild child
on the beaches of Manhattan Beach from what I hear. So basically this week, you are against backwards
visors and you are against shotgunning beers on stage at a concert. Okay. So you're basically
captain unfun. You know, you've heard of the fun uncle, the funcle. You're like the opposite
of that. You are unfun, Colin. Oh my gosh. Golf? Really? No. So what about basketball? You're good
with me in the men's leagues? We've got a big playoff game
this weekend. Get your cardio in. Get your cardio in.
Everybody, I understand
that. I always had a thing with golf.
When your hair gets gray, go for it. Before
that, I don't want to hear your golf addicted playing
on seven courses. That's just me.
Everybody's got a different vibe.
Greg CoSell's coming up in 45 minutes.
You know I love Greg CoSell.
A very serious man, by the way.
Very serious.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, name?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what should.
we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say,
Hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I
competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking
down everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes
to win on clay. Genshin win. I mean, she went down in three to Roebuckina, but I'm delighted.
Yeah, she's an outsider to win the French.
And she likes Clay. Listen, Lernerabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now.
And I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.

Welcome back. You are now entering the no bull zone, sponsored by credible great rates.
None of the bull. So, um, Lever, I was talking about this at the very end of the show.
yesterday about Brian Chottnheimer, I don't think the Dallas Cowboys is the easiest job.
I do not think it's the toughest job. So there were seven new coaches, and by and large,
you take over a team that's either rudderless, it's not worth. Very rarely do you get a Matt
Lefleur where you get Aaron Rogers in his prime? That's the best job opening in probably 20 years,
is that the Green Bay Packers with Aaron Rogers in his prime, Aaron and Mike McCarthy had a falling out,
but that's a great job.
Stability everywhere, no chaos.
Aaron was great.
Roster was good.
But there were seven job openings this year.
One of them, New England, is the easiest lift.
You're not replacing Belichick.
You have one of the smarter, more powerful owners.
You have great game day revenue.
They got plenty of money.
Again, Drake May, I think, is going to work
and even worked last year without any help.
And you got the dolphins and the jets,
both kind of dysfunctional in your division.
That's the easiest job.
Now, I do think there are some that are, like, I think the Raiders is a big lift.
I got Harbaugh Herbert, Bo Nix Payton, Andy Reid Mahomes, and the great Kansas City Chiefs
Indivision.
You could get it right in that division for several years and finished fourth.
I think the Raiders is a tough lift.
I think the Bears historically, very weak ownership, old weak ownership, too many kids involved,
a lot of pressure, loud market, tough media, quarterback, Ben Johnson.
You don't know if Caleb can play.
I mean, we don't know yet.
I think he's talented, but we don't know.
I also think the Jets, ownership, M. GM, who knows, it's another guy.
It's a turnstile.
I think the Jets is a hard lift.
The culture there is just not great.
A lot of impulsive moves.
And there's a lot of too many cooks in the kitchen.
But the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Schottenheimer, it's not an easy lift.
You have a meddling owner, and Micah's got a holdout.
And the Micah holdout thing, it's substantial.
He's arguably, I don't think he's as gifted as CD-Land, but he's really, really good.
And here is Brian Schottnheimer, Shottie, talking about the Micah Parsons issue.
We're still planning on moving Mike around and putting him in all the spots that we see him
and using our fronts the way we want to see it.
And no, we just, you know, we go about our business every day.
We live in the moment.
We focus in the moment.
And again, like I said, I talked to guys the other day.
Not going to get a lot into it.
But, you know, I expect Micah to be here.
But I think one of the reasons this is an easier job than some of the other jobs is
Dak Prescott.
Dak is the Honda Civic of this league.
You never have to worry about getting to work.
it will not break down, right?
Like, his floor is very high.
I think you'd be surprised how many games
DAC has won when he's healthy.
I think it's second if I may be wrong since he got drafted.
I think it's second to the Eagles in the NFC.
He has an incredibly high floor.
You don't have to worry about silliness.
He's an excellent leader, high IQ, EQ.
This is really the value of Dak Prescott.
This has always been the value to me.
I don't think he's great from the pocket.
But Dallas is a loud,
with an aggressive media, talk radio remains very big in Dallas.
Newspaper columnists have influence of the Dallas Morning News.
It's still one of the only markets where sports guys get more than 45 seconds.
It matters.
It's a loud, aggressive sports market, and DAC fundamentally, is a complete grown-up.
And so that's the one thing.
Jerry's going to meddle.
Jerry lost his fastball.
Micah Trayvon Diggs are upset.
George Pickens, watch out.
But this has always been
DAC's value. Can you imagine
if you had a less serious quarterback than
Dak Proz Scott, what a mess
this would be. I've always said this.
That's talent, I think, is very middle of the pack.
The IQ EQ stuff?
Top three or four in the league.
Until Jaylen Hertz arrived, I thought he was the best guy
I'd ever seen at the podium.
Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
on the news. This is the
herd line news.
All right. Let's dive right into it.
Josh Allen, best quarterback in the league,
MVP of the league. Colin, he
spoke to Fox Sports and said that
the MVP trophy is
sitting in a box in his house somewhere
and added he'd trade
10 MVP awards
for a Super Bowl ring. Obviously
some hyperbole from Josh
but I kind of
contrast what a former
quarterback named Cam Newton had said
a little while ago that he would not trade his MVP for a Super Bowl ring. I like this attitude
from Allen, as I'm sure you as well. Yeah, I mean, I think that I can judge a person a lot by what
matters to them. You know, if trophies and awards and validation and acceptance mean a lot to you,
you're not really a serious person. It's okay for you, you know, I'm not saying it, you can't enjoy it,
But if winning isn't first, second, and third, then you're in the wrong.
That's not really what I'm looking for.
The fact that it's in a box, I have so much respect for that.
Like, you appreciate awards.
I'm not saying you shouldn't appreciate them.
Anytime I won it, totally appreciate it.
But it can't be the driving force.
It can't be that important.
Winning is the difference.
And I love the fact that it's in a box, that brings a smile to my face.
Yeah, totally agree.
Let's move to the Philadelphia Eagles, Colin.
Their defense last year.
Just a formidable group.
Just confounded Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
Well, guess what?
According to Sequin Barclay, the defense is better this year,
and that's a large part thanks to rookie linebacker Jehad Campbell out of Alabama.
Sequin said, I think he's going to be a problem.
A real big problem for a lot of guys in this league who have to block him.
He's kind of built like, wait for it, Micah Parsons.
He's comparing a rookie saying he's kind of built like Michael Parsons.
You know why I love this draft pick because he's an inside linebacker,
and he was the best inside linebacker in college football,
and classic Philadelphia Eagles.
You can't draft Jalen Carter.
You can't draft an inside linebacker,
and Philadelphia drafted both.
And I mean, this is why Philadelphia is so great.
You ever notice this?
Kansas City does this too at the end of the first round,
where they got the left tackle from Ohio State that had been injured,
and many people are saying he looks great.
camp is when you have Super Bowls, you are not beholden to public opinion. That Howie Roseman
doesn't care. I had, I think I said this on the air before the draft. I had somebody tell me,
that is the best from like the eighth pick on. That's the best athlete in the draft. They're like,
this kid is insane. But a lot of people were intimidated. They had a very weak inner scoreboard.
They had a bigger, you know, they worry about what people think about them. And Howie Roseman does not.
and they went and got this kid, so it doesn't shock me at all.
Every scout I had in this league that I talked to thought this kid was in a day one, immediate starter, year two, vying for Pro Bowls.
Your point about having Super Bowls and being able to do this is good.
Do you remember, 2023, the Detroit Lions had two first round picks.
They drafted a running back at 12.
Gibbs, the pick was pillory.
Unbelievable.
And then Jack Campbell, like an inside linebacker at 18.
and the lines were crushed.
Everybody crushed them.
Now it has worked out,
but at the time, they took a lot of heat.
Eagles took no heat for this pick.
No, no.
I mean, we've said this before,
is that when they made those moves,
I think you and I said,
is that we get, I'm not saying
there aren't positions that,
like, I think I can usually get safeties
in the second, third, fourth round.
Seattle this year got a great safety
in the second round.
He's an amazing player from South Carolina.
I think historically you can get safeties
in a lot of play.
and running backs.
But folks, if you have a player that you, like Jamir Gibbs is an insane talent in the SEC,
the first guy could never bring him down.
Just pick him.
Don't get caught up in possession.
Remember when Quentin Nelson went guard to the Colts?
It's like, oh, interior offensive lineman.
He's been first or second best guard for the last seven years in the league.
Again, winning covers it all up.
Baltimore Ravens, Colin.
They got Super Bowls, horrible.
Everybody loves him.
They took Kyle Hamilton.
14th overall. Safety.
And then this year they took Malachi Stark.
And they're like, safety, two safety.
What are you guys doing?
Same year, they took a center and a safety in round one.
And everybody's like, whoa, they're both pro bowlers.
Just go get the best players.
Get the best players.
The smart teams do that, right?
Final story, Colin, is your guy, Sean McVeigh.
Remember a few years ago, he kind of ruined the preseason
when he said, I'm sitting all my starters.
while the trend is turning completely around.
We've gotten word that Kyler Marie, Joe Burrow, Cam Ward,
all will play in preseason week one.
That was not happening, thanks to McVeigh, a few years ago.
Now, Justin Fields of My Jets said he wants to play.
We'll see the Colts are going to have Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones.
A lot of starters playing in the preseason, specifically quarterbacks.
I don't think you like this trend, but that's just a guess.
Yeah, I'm not
I
Joe Burrow always worries me about previous injuries
But I don't know
I just I think
I'm if college football
If Texas and Ohio State can play a game
With no preseason
With limitations on practice
Hours
College kids who are 19, 2021
Pro football guys need a preseason
Why
These are adults
fewer limitations on practice time.
Most of these guys have played multiple NFL seasons.
I'm not a fan of preseason.
And I also think it looks bad for the league.
There's nobody at the games.
It's just backups.
I've said before, if I ran the league, I would get it to one game,
and I would play, I would just play,
because I think what I've heard from coaches and execs,
they like the inter-squad practices.
The Air Day, the Rams and Cowboys played,
and you're still doing vanilla stuff.
But you can kind of manipulate it,
unlike a game where you have to play.
There's a clock.
There's officials.
I'm not a preseason fan.
I just, I watch some of it, but I don't.
I would not play a lot of starters.
You're looking for a why, I think, is what I heard there.
So listen closely to the quarterbacks who are playing preseason week one.
There is a common threat.
Kyler Murray, Joe Burrow, Cam Ward, all play for teams that have not been in the playoffs.
Okay?
They need, Joe Burrow needs a good start.
He's pissed about last year and Zach Taylor.
Kyler Murray is a pivotal year for him.
Okay?
Second year with Gannon.
You don't want to get Gannon to get fired.
And Cam Ward rookie coming out of the gate.
Then you got Justin Fields.
Colin, this is like his last chance to be a starter in the league.
Justin Fields, I would play in the preseason.
He asked to.
I mean, I don't care.
If he doesn't want to, you better.
This is your last shot.
And then, you know, the Colts, Anthony Richardson, this is a big, prove it year.
I do think like a Mahomes, no.
No, I think the guys I would play for sure.
Justin Fields, J.J. McCarthy.
Absolutely, I'm going to play.
I'm not playing Dak Prescott in the preseason.
I'm going to play Milton.
I'm not playing Dak a snap.
No, Jalen Hurts.
I don't want Jalen anywhere near the...
I don't want Lamar, Herbert, C.J. Stroud.
I would play J.J. McCarthy.
I would play Caleb Williams, some snaps.
I wouldn't even play Jaden Daniels.
I wouldn't play Jaden Daniels.
I would play Drake May, a couple of series, Max.
Yeah, I mean, there's about four guys.
I would absolutely. I'm not sure I'd play Joe Burrell, to be honest with you. I don't know if I would.
I mean, I'm just, the Kylo-Marie thing is interesting. You know, I'm kind of bullish on Arizona this year.
He don't want to start like one and four. Okay, this is a huge year for Kylo Morrie. It's a big one.
We'll see.
J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
Greg Kossel, at the top of our number two.
I got a couple good rants here. I don't even think I want to give him away.
I think they're just too much to throw away.
These are very, very good segments.
But I did see this.
The commanders and Terry McLaurin.
Now, I have said, I pay Terry.
Terry signed a contract a couple years ago, but it's time for the big one.
I think he's an elite.
He's Amaran St. Brown.
He's really an elite receiver.
And so I have loved everything washing.
has done.
But it's really funny.
We've talked about this.
Windows, you see it now in the NBA.
They're like seven different champions in seven years.
The Denver Nuggets got old and expensive, really fast.
Everybody loves Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City just paid those three young guys.
822 million combined.
No more bench.
These windows in the NFL close.
The Niners for three years in a row had a stacked roster.
Now they're peeling off a funga.
and Greenlaw, and they're good players, Debo's gone.
They're good players getting old fast.
The Detroit Lions were like, yeah, this is just the beginning.
For the Detroit Lions.
No, you lost both great coordinators.
You lost Ragnow, a Pro Bowl center.
And oh, by the way, your young studs, a couple of them don't be getting paid here.
So you can look at Jaden Daniels.
He's just going into year two.
Jaden Daniels, the bargain is going to be
Jaden Daniels the Brinks truck in about two years
because you're paying him early.
And my take is he's healthy, he's young.
Cliff Kingsbury.
What if Kingsbury after this year leaves?
And you miss on a coordinator
or the one you want turns you down.
Right?
There's a lot of good quarterbacks in the league.
A lot of good coordinators.
when you're a good offensive coordinator,
you don't leave a good situation.
You go get a head job.
I mean, Cliff Kingsbury is a bit of a gift.
That's a way better than average offensive coordinator.
So this stuff gets, I mean, it's strike when the iron is hot.
I don't, I just sign him, get it done, move on.
Do not waste September.
I mean, remember the Legion of Boom, became the Legion of Bust about two years in?
I thought that thing was going to last forever.
Maybe I was a Seattle Homer.
I thought, we got to, we have it, I said it on the air tentout, we have a dynasty.
And all of a sudden, this guy comes in a division, and that guy leaves, and Russ and Pete,
and then Earl Thomas, and then Russell makes a throw at the Super Bowl, and divides the locker room,
and all of a sudden, it's like, yeah, that, that thing didn't work at all.
So I get it done.
Just everything Washington has done to this point, I've loved.
this I don't love. The home you have worked so hard to get and pay for, you know, you own the part of that home.
It's called equity. At Rocket Mortgage, they'll show you how to turn that equity, that's the part of the house you own, into cash.

Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel

The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed
there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down
everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes
to win on clay.
Jenchian win.
I mean, she went down in three to Rovachina, but I'm delighted.
She's an outsider to win the French, me.
And she likes Clay.
Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now.
And I actually can win on any surface.
Because if she's serving, well, good luck.
Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.

I will be there. I talked to Kevin Knaw yesterday. He's funny.
Can't wait for it.
So one of the truths of dynasties is that part of a dynasty is dominating those that are inept around you,
giving you home field advantage and easy wins.
And so Travis Kelsey was talking about the superiors.
Super Bowl. And, you know, they got, for the second time, they got, they got absolutely blown out.
And, you know, I mean, it happens. You can dominate your conference or your division, but when you
go face the best team from the other division, you better be tight. And twice, they've had
injuries on the offensive line. So here is Travis Kelsey just, just moving off that awful Super Bowl
loss. I've thrown that thing in the trash. I moved on. I don't know. I haven't, I thought
that it happened sooner than you can imagine. I, I, I don't.
I was pretty focused on this year in the offseason.
So I do not think Kansas City's, I think Kansas City the dynasty part is over.
They may win a Super Bowl, but I think their divisions too good to be a dynasty.
And I'll give you an example.
When Nick Saban was at Alabama, LSU couldn't get the right coach, Auburn couldn't get the right coach,
Ole Miss couldn't get the right coach for most of it, Tennessee couldn't get the right coach.
and he dominated.
But then Georgia got Kirby smart,
and then Texas came in with Sark,
and Nick Saban didn't look as dominating.
Same thing happened to Urban at Florida
when Nick Saban came in.
Urban Meyer was dominating,
and then Nick Saban went to a great program,
and then Urban wasn't dominating.
And if you look at LeBron's dominance
for eight, nine, ten years in the Eastern Conference,
he had to beat the Raptors and the Pacers.
He would go into the other conference,
it didn't have the same luck when you're facing the warriors.
Same with Tom Brady.
Brady's great.
But one of the things that was never spoken about,
the cults used to be in the Patriots Division, then they left.
And he got home field advantage almost every year.
Anytime he had to go to Denver, he would lose.
He would struggle in Denver.
Brady, the greatest ever.
Uh-oh, Denver.
It wasn't the same.
But because the jets and the dolphins and the bills for most of his stay were inept,
Brady would get a, he'd go five and one in division or six and O.
And so Brady gets home field in cold weather, huge advantage with the best defensive coach of all time.
All he had to do is win a couple of playoff games because they get a buy.
Okay, so you tell me, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick with an extra week to prepare at home in Foxborough in their prime.
Yeah, it's an advantage.
They lost to the Giants twice in Super Bowl.
They lost to Philadelphia in a Super Bowl.
they weren't nearly as invincible on the other side.
But part of what they did is they took advantage of the ineptitude of their division to get home field advantage.
And Kansas City deserves all the credit in the world.
They've taken advantage of Justin Herbert with bad coaches.
They've taken advantage of Denver in a rebuild and the Raiders in a perpetual rebuild.
They deserve credit for all of it.
But there's never been a division with four head coaches that have been to a Super Bowl.
I mean, the Raiders now have Tom Brady overseeing it, Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly, and the very competent Gino Smith.
Would you be shocked if the Raiders split every series in the division?
I would not.
And Bo Nick's year two was Sean Payton.
He made the playoffs as a rookie.
I mean, and they got money now.
Kansas City doesn't have the money to go by Hufunga and Greenlaw.
Denver does.
So it's, and I'll give Kansas City all the credit.
it in the world. But last year, five of their wins in division, all of them won possession
games. Denver's going to be noticeably better. The Raiders are going to be significantly
better. And Jim Harbaugh's career, year two, everywhere he's ever been. Year one, he changes the
culture. Year two, he changes the personnel. He needs two years of drafting, two years of free agency.
I just saw somebody the other day pick the charters to win Super Bowl.
I don't know if they will, but they'll be noticeably better than last year when they just had too many weak spots on the O line, at wide receiver, at Tide End.
They've solved a lot of those riddles.
So, and here's the thing about dynasties, is that, and I've said this about Mahomes.
Mahomes only makes about three plays a game.
Same with Michael Jordan.
That's jaw-dropping.
Michael was the best mid-range player ever.
and Mahomes is unbelievable on layups, never misses them, doesn't miss layups.
That's 90% of the sport.
Michael never missed the open 16-footer when he had to hit it.
And once or twice a game, he'd stick his tongue out, switch hands in mid-air, and you'd go,
I've never seen that before.
But if you've been trailing by nine points at that moment against the Lakers, would it have mattered?
Right?
So, I mean, it's a prime example, is that nobody hit Clayton Kershaw or Sandy Co.
in their prime. The great hitters hit the number three starter, dominate the middle relievers,
and beat average closers. I mean, go to the World Series last year, Yankees and Dodgers.
The Dodgers ate the Yankee pitching alive. Not Garrett Cole. They couldn't hit Garrett Cole.
The only time the Yankees looked like they were the Dodgers equal were the two starts that
Garrett Cole had. Two starts, one earned run total against the best team in baseball, the Dodgers.
Nobody hits Garrett Cole when he's on.
Nobody hits Garrett Cole.
And Nick Saban just never lost games he should have won.
He could lose to Johnny Mansell.
He could lose that one game to Auburn, the special teams blunder.
But so much of dynasties is just taking care of the home games,
taking care of business.
When Big Ben was in his prime and the Steelers were getting the Super Bowls,
they owned Cleveland and they owned Cincinnati.
They didn't own Baltimore.
They didn't own Baltimore.
Baltimore. They lost to Baltimore all the time. They weren't losing the crappy bingles pre-burrow,
and they weren't losing the Browns very much. So that's part of it. J-Mack, around the corner,
J-Mack's host on the show tomorrow, around the corner is Greg CoSell. Yeah, by the way,
I've been percolating one of my spicier takes for 2025. I'm going to save it for tomorrow
when you're on the golf course with, you know,
whoever you're golfing with tomorrow.
But it's going to be a little spicy.
All right.
I know you're going to love it.
You like hot picks, right?
I always appreciate you saving your best material
and not presenting it to the audience
and, you know, when I'm on.
I always really appreciate that.
I'm a comedian working, you know, off Broadway or what have you.
Yeah.
If you and I, I think you and I have both said this,
the AFC West is the best division in football,
but it is easily the best coach division of all time.
Even the coordinators are great.
Well, wait.
Your coordinators are Spags,
Chip Kelly,
Jesse Mentor.
I mean,
those are three of the top coordinators in football.
Eight minutes.
I mean,
I don't know.
I will say this.
I don't think it's a reach.
I don't think Kansas City wins the division.
I don't.
And I think they'll make the playoffs.
But I'm not sure right now.
And this is going to be the hardest division to call.
Is Denver the best team in division?
Who's got the better roster?
Denver or Kansas City.
Denver.
Okay.
Better coach.
Well, Andy Reed is the best coach.
Okay, but it's close, though.
It's not, you know, come on.
You would agree.
Both great.
Yeah, the Payton's got an argument for number two or three or four, yeah.
The big difference is that quarterback.
I say this.
I think the roster is better for Denver because I like Denver's offensive line over Kansas
cities and I think Greenlawn
Hufunga are star
players were healthy. No, no, there's no debate. Denver
has a better roster. They're the best roster
in the division, Colin. Denver has a
top like seven roster in the league.
Yeah, yeah. No, I, so I just
and again,
part of dominating and being a dynasty
is getting all those good seeds and home
playoff games. I don't think Kansas City's getting.
