Here we go, live in L.A. It's the herd wherever you may be and however you may be listening. IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. There is all sorts of stuff happening in the sports world, conjecture, rumors, gossip. We are here to sort it all out today on a midweek Wednesday. So fired up looking over all the NFL games this week. weekend. Six games. I like four dogs and two favorites. Two is not going to play. It looks like against the bills. That's going to get ugly. Well, you're starting the show with an SAT vocabulary word.

Goodness, I almost needed my dictionary. I have some trepidation going into the weekend regarding the gambling lines in the NFL. All right. It's great. It's J-Mac, of course. I want to start with this. And this is just a quality. It makes, it's a good quality people have, but it can also get you in trouble. Psychologists call it, are you a saver that you like to save people? Now, it's a really great human quality. There's some ego involved. There's some empathy involved. Are you a saver? Jerry Jones has a little bit of that. I'll get to that in a second. But the big question this weekend, he's never beaten Brady. Brady's what, six and oh, seven and oh against the Dallas Cowboys. I like Dallas this weekend. I tend to like capable quarterbacks.

off ugly losses. So I think Dallas buttons it up, super focused, getting ripped all week in Dallas by the media, comes out, plays a great football game, and beats an anemic offense with the Buccaneers, which is good. You know, when they hurry up offense, they're not bad. The rest of the game, they're awful. So, but what if Dallas loses? Oh, last year.

Oh, that's 17 seconds, middle of the field. Dax slides season over. McCarthy's a bum. Jerry says, no, no, win or lose, Mike McCarthy's my guy. No, that's it. I don't need to go into all the policies or minuses, but I've got a lot more to evaluate Mike McCarthy on than this playoff game.

I can't tell you how much confidence I've got in Mike and our coaching staff of being on top of where we are with this team right now. So Jerry, for a change, is ending the drama he's not starting it. The Cowboys are teetering a little. That was really bad against Washington. Oh, this thing is kind of teetering. And Jerry says, nope, nope.

Mike McCarthy's coming back. But Mike McCarthy, if you do a deep dive on Jerry and his DNA, is perfect. Mike McCarthy wins enough, about 60% of his games. Mike McCarthy doesn't want personnel power. Mike McCarthy would rather be behind the scenes, not in front of the mic. He's not terribly comfortable at the podium. But most of all, Mike needed Jerry. He needed to be saved.

Remember that silly narrative? He was down in his basement watching all the plays. He later admitted he lied. Jerry fired the very powerful Tom Landry, a man of religious conviction that didn't need anybody. It ended poorly for Parcells and Jimmy Johnson. They didn't need saving either. Alphas. Jerry Jones likes to be necessary.

It's a really important thing. Jason Garrett and Mike McCarthy, that's why he struggled to get rid of Jason Garrett. Jason Garrett got fired. He didn't have a lot of job offers. He needed Jerry. Mike McCarthy in his basement working on analytics needed Jerry. And Jerry likes that. And I don't think Dallas, if they do lose, is going to get rolled or humiliated.

Tampa can't run the football. Brady's going to have to throw 45 times. Outside of that game against, I think it was Carolina, when Carolina was using backup corners and Mike Evans exploded, they can't move the ball consistently. And Dallas has a good defense. I think it's pretty low scoring and Dallas wins. But if they lose, it'll be close, not humiliating.

They won't get drubbed, I don't think. But this season's really actually, been more about DAC. Dak has struggled. My staff looked it up this morning. If you go to Dak's career pre-A-Cupor, wide receiver, and post-A-Cupor this year,

Dak's pass-a-rating is 92. He's average. With Amari Cooper, it's in the hundreds. So what did Dak need this year as he struggled? Ask yourself, what is Dak needed this year as he struggled? The support of Jerry. Dak needs Jerry's support. McCarthy needs Jerry.

Jason Garrett needs Jerry. Right? Jerry likes to save and Jerry likes to discover. He found Tony Romo. He found Dak in the fourth round. Jerry likes that. Jerry likes to be necessary and needed and save and protect. And you know who doesn't need protection?

Sean Payton. That's why I've never thought he fits here. He doesn't need to be saved. Bill Parcells doesn't need to be saved. Jimmy Johnson doesn't need to be protected. Nobody discovered Jimmy Johnson. Maybe Jerry thought he was discovering Jimmy Johnson, but he got tired of it because Jimmy didn't need Jerry

to have a great life and a great career. So when McCarthy loses in the playoffs, and I imagine he will eventually, though I don't think it's this week, he's safe. Jerry is necessary for Mike McCarthy, and Jerry likes that role. It's who he is. So this one's interesting.

We live in Los Angeles, although it feels like Seattle this week, and the rumors among the big trees, among the agents, among the players and their representatives, among the people that are in that elite upper class, they hang out in games at, sweets and drink champagne. They think Sean McVeigh's out. They actually think Matt Stafford may be out in L.A. But Stafford a couple days ago said, I'm in, regardless of what happens to Sean McVeigh. So the Sean McVe story is very interesting. Very rarely do we find a coach in his mid-30s who's crushing it and says, yeah, it's too

much stress for me. I want to step back and have a life. You chose coaching? You want a life and you chose coaching? Yeah, broadcasting's a nice life, but it's boring. It doesn't pay half as much. I think McVeigh, LeBron's done this in his career. I think McVeigh feels at times a little underappreciated.

And frankly, he may be. He basically energized the franchise. So they move from St. Louis to Los Angeles. Jeff Fisher's teams were bad and boring. Jared Gough was a bust. They had a 12-year playoff drought, and they were unwatchable. And McVeigh wins a Super Bowl, has gotten up to two with two different quarterbacks, saved the entire business.

Remember, the stadium was a cost overrun. They got to make money on this thing. That stadium costs double what they wanted it to. They got to fill that stadium and sell beer and get parking. That thing cost $8 billion. They thought it'd cost $4. Or maybe it was $7.3.5. I forget the numbers.

It was a way big cost overrun. And they need exciting football and winning football. And they were a boring, ugly, unwatchable mess. And McVeigh saved him. In L.A., a distracted and jammed market. And now the fourth biggest economy in the world just surpassed Germany. California is a lot of money here. When you win, baby, you win big here.

You win in Cincinnati. Congrats. Free Chile. You went in Los Angeles. everybody gets Uber rich. California has distanced itself from the country's economy. And McVeigh saved the most popular sport. He saved the quarterback.

He saved the franchise. It was a boring, unwatchable mess. And I think he wants a little more power, a little more saying personnel. He looks at Kyle Shanahan's roster and says, come on, man, they got nine of the best 15 players if we play tomorrow. Maybe nine of 12. Aaron Donald's getting old. Prucup is hurt. Stafford's banged up. And McVeigh, also, there's stories out today. He has told his staff, go looking for work. What does that tell you? He wants to make changes on the staff,

but he didn't want to fire anybody. So if you're on a roster or a team or a staff, it could be this show, it could be a team, it could be a political office. Everybody knows who's tight with a boss and everybody knows who's not. So when McVeigh tells his staff, you can look for work, what he's basically saying is to the three and four coaches he would fire get another job he doesn't want to fire him so i tend to think there's always a story behind the story you know i i tell the story years and years ago when i was a little kid my dad took me to watch the harlem globetrotters but i lived in a small town and we didn't really get the harlem globe trotters but i lived in a small town and we didn't really get the Harlem Globetrotters. We got like the B or C team. And so my dad had this big

Buick Riviera and we showed up late and there was no parking. It was in a town called Hokewium, Washington. And we pulled into a weird parking spot and we had to walk through an alley. And when we walked through the alley, there were the Harlem Globetrotters, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. And from that moment on in my broadcasting life, I wasn't interested in the story you saw. I was interested in the story behind the story. As we walked into that gym, it was full, and everybody cheered the team. I just saw him knocking down a Miller light, smoking cancer rockets. So to me, I look at this, and I think to myself, come on, man,

story's never this simple. 35-year-old, 36-year-old Sean McVeigh has burnt out. He chose coaching. This guy's one of the smartest football coaches on the planet. he can name his job in America and Sean Payton just sitting waiting in the wings to take it I mean people can say what they want but if you leave you'd rather the team hire somebody less talented than you

and Peyton not a lot of people more talented than him I don't know maybe I'm wrong maybe McVeigh's burned out maybe he wants to broadcast Sean trust me on this it's not as much fun as coaching coaching's being a rock star in sports everybody wants the mic and to be in front McVeys an icon he's smart he's smart But I think sometimes we've got to realize in Los Angeles, stadiums a cost overrun.

They're playing at the Coliseum. Golfs a bust. Teams unwatchable. I remember that first game? Remember that first game, DAC ever played at the Coliseum? It was Rams and it was Cowboys, and that crowd was about 90% cowboy fans. Okay? The Chargers are still struggling trying to get their fans in the building.

NFL was gone for 20 years in this market or more. McVeigh saved it. You go Fisher to another miss. You're reeling. A little more say, a little more power. A little more personnel say. I think he's frustrated. He doesn't want to fire coaches, wants big changes, wants more say.

That is my gut feeling. That's all I'm saying. That is my gut feeling this one. Because a lot of people in the big offices are saying McVeigh's gone. Stafford's with him. They're rebuilding. I don't believe it to be true. I've been wrong before, I'll be wrong again.

And poor Jason McIntyre is startled by my Harlem Globetrotter story. Listen, I've been doing the show now. What are we on? Month 5, 6, something like that. That may have been the funniest open you've ever had. I thought that was super strong. The Harlem Globetrotters. True story.

When you see them smoking knocking down Miller lights, it's a whole different ballgame. Were they chugging Miller Lights or passing around? All of them had one in their hands. Oh, geez. And so it changed. It was just, It changed my perspective on this whole thing.

It's some high-level stuff. I felt like I had access to something nobody else had. I felt like everybody in that arena, I was like an eight-year-old boy. I knew something nobody else knew. And I like that feeling. It's a cool feeling. Yeah. You're an insider.

So in the 90s, there were two, if you really like sports cars and cool cars, and I've never been a car guy, but there was Porsche and Jaguar. Jaguar was like what cool, rich old dudes drove. They broke down all the time. Terrible service record, but they were cool. You see, guy, silver hair, and a jaguar, that guy's cool.

That's cool. But they, it was always broken down. And so Ford, our domestic, you know, juggernaut. Ford bought Jaguar, overspent for it. it, a few billion bucks, it's like 1998, 1999 that Ford bought Jaguar. And Ford's boring, right? Ford just a, but cars need to be dependable, right? It's great if they're spectacular, but you know, you can, sometimes people love to buy a convertible.

In most of the country, outside of Florida and California, you can't have the top down nine months a year. So Jaguar was not dependable. Ford made them more dependable. again, probably overpaid for it. But I feel that way sometimes with young quarterbacks, that we fall in love with the spectacular. We did this with Zach Wilson.

Go look at his college highlights. He gives you spectacular, but his footwork, his accuracy, he gives you 9 and 10, he's bad one through six. And most of quarterback play is the mundane and the repetition and the footwork and the accuracy and the layups. That's 75 to 80% of this stuff. You only have to be spectacular, Josh Allen, about three times a game.

The other stuff is choreographed, built, and practiced, and repetition, get the layups right. And so the Chicago Bears now have the number one pick, and they have Justin Fields. And would they, it's making the rounds on the interweb, would they draft another quarterback? I would not. Because I think Justin Fields, much like Bryce Young, is not good enough to overcome chaos, but if you surround him with the right pieces and protection, he could grow into a good player. Justin Fields is also bigger and stronger. I like that.

I like my quarterback's top 10, top 15 picks, big strong guys. So the GM of the Bears, Ryan Poles, we don't know yet. We really don't know yet. Says, I don't think I'm drafting a quarterback. We're going to do the same as we've always done. We're going to evaluate the draft class. And I would say this, I'd have to be absolutely. blown away to make that type of decision. I'm excited for the direction he's going. And as I

mentioned before, he knows where he has to improve. I think he mentioned that the other day. So we're excited about his development and where he goes next. Here's where I am with Justin Field. 60-40, I think it's going to work. But he, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, I don't think they're gifted enough to overcome nonsense. Mack Jones, the minute he doesn't have the right coach, regresses badly. He's not gifted enough to overcome a bad coordinator. My concern with Justin Fields, and I see this more and more. Maybe it's because of social media. Everybody's got a highlight. Everybody's sports center. Everybody can give you highlights. We're falling in love with the spectacular and the highlights. That is a small

part of quarterback play. You get about two of those a game. We did this with Cam Newton for years. His footwork never got better. His mechanics regressed. But like twice. a game, Cam Newton would do something you couldn't take your eyes off of. Folks, a lot of movie trailers are amazing. There's 60 seconds. Very rarely is a movie amazing. That's two hours and 10 minutes. I've seen it with Zach Wilson. I've seen people go to the combine and make throws. This is what they're struggling with with Tray Lance in San Francisco. Accuracy. It's what they're really struggling with. It's what they struggle with with Zach Wilson. They know he's got a good arm. They know he can move. But if you watch Zach Wilson plays, he'll have a guy seven yards out

in a flat and short hop him. He'll dirt it. Like you can't do that. You got to get the layups right. You can have a take Daniel Jones, almost never spectacular. He's in the playoffs. Why? Completion percentage ticked up. Turnovers, career low. He just doesn't make the mistakes anymore. He's no more spectacular now. They're using his legs a little more. But with an average O-line and bad receivers, he's in the playoffs. We don't look at Daniel Jones highlights.

We don't go on Sunday and go, oh, I see Daniel Jones. It's not what he does. His completion percentage highest of his career, his turnover's lowest of his career. So I think Justin Fields is going to work. work. But I don't know if it's social media. I don't know why this is. We used to all wait for SportsCenter. When I was a kid growing up, Howard CoSell in the 70s gave you highlights of the games

at halftime of Monday night football. And then ESPN created Sports Center. So you got highlights at Sunday night. And now we have our phones. We all have Sports Center. It makes Sports Center less relevant. You don't have to wait until Monday to do games. And so we all have our own little sports centers and we sit there watching highlights over and over and over and we've fallen up with highlights. That is like 5% of quarterback play. Is Justin Field going to audible you out of trouble? You can keep blaming the O line and the receivers, but is he going to audible you out of trouble? Is he going to audible you in the yards?

Is his footwork getting better? Reading the field. Or is mechanics stabilized? And the answer may be yes to all of these. I'm 60, 40. I think it will work. But I do notice this. I think it's the big mistake was Zach Wilson,

who I never bought into him. I didn't like his footwork. I didn't like his size. I thought he was undisciplined. I thought he was a cowboy. He was doing eight, nine pretty well. One through six, I didn't buy it all. So that's where we are today.

I would still, still, they got some draft picks here. I'd still support him. I want to see 17 more games. From the beginning, I've said it's going to take more time with him. I don't trust the organization. They can't build or develop offense. I think they need to move down, get more people, and current players, mostly on offense,

give him 17 more games and then make a decision. I wouldn't draft a quarterback. But just some food for thought. J-Mac with a news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Start with the Tampa Bay, Bucks and the Dallas Cowboys.

Rough season for Tampa Bay. Ups and downs. Nearly got swept by Carolina, but came back and beat him the second time. Obviously, Monday's Wild Card matchup with the Cowboys is massive. Not only did Tom Brady and the Bucks offense seem to click in the final game when they qualify for the playoffs against Carolina, but the team's health continues to improve. Here's what Brady said.

We have seven days to prepare. We've got kind of the whole week. I don't know. I'm sure everyone's a little bit day-to-day right now. I'm hoping we're pretty healthy. I mean, I really, I believe we're going to be as healthy as we've been all year, which is kind of exciting, to get some guys back that haven't been in there. And then, you know, see if we can go play our best football. Because I even said after the game, you know, it sucks being 8 and 9. You know, you're playing against teams that have way better records, 12 and 5, whatever it is. But you know what?

The only thing that matters is who wins that day. Yeah, Tampa is not good enough to win multiple games. Are they good enough at home to win a game against Dallas? That's the only. They're not going to win. They're not going to San Francisco. go. They're just not talented enough. And by the way, after they play Dallas, they're healthy now.

They may not be healthy after Dallas. They get three guys hurt a week. I like Dallas a lot, a lot. This is the toughest game to really handicap because you see how comes off the three, right? It used to be Dallas was favored by three, now two and a half. That means there's some big money on Tampa. Yeah. And I just wonder, this defense, Colin, I looked at pressure rates.

Todd Bowles historically blitzes among the most in the league. Yes. He loves to do it. Well, he didn't blitz a lot this year. He fell down to 10th. but they're getting no pressure at all. So they basically need to generate pressure with blitzes and it's still not happening. I think that could have a real big bounce back this week.

I think so. Against a secondary that's a little overrated. I think people are just betting the Tom Brady narrative, right? Like, hey, Tom Brady, he's never lost to Dallas. And it's fun to gin up this McCarthy in trouble stuff. My favorite, I think my favorite play of the weekend is Dallas. Ooh, that's risky. Well, listen, you know I don't like big favorites.

I do think Buffalo is going to clobber Miami. That's my second favorite. We'll talk about that here in a minute. Seattle's getting a ton of points. Do I think Seattle ugliest it up and keeps it close and loses? Yeah, I don't. A lot of these games, Jacksonville Chargers comes down to is Mike Williams ready to play? If he starts, I'll take the Chargers.

If not, I'll take the Jags. There's a lot of things here hanging. I feel like I know what the game is going to look like, Dallas and Tampa. I have a sense of what it's going to look like. Dallas is going to come. and super focused after being humiliated. They're going to play really hard and really well, and at some point,

this is a Tampa offense that is limited. It just doesn't have a lot of vertical components here. That Evans Carolina game is a total outlier. So there's two games this weekend. You just highlighted them. Chargers Jags. So the Chargers got destroyed by Jacksonville at home. Now they go to Jacksonville.

Dallas got destroyed 193. Kind of embarrassed by Tampa. Now they go to Texas. Tampa. I like the team that got beaten both. I'm kind of with you on that. Next story, we are talking about the Giants. Giants Vikings, you know, listen, they're in the playoffs. Brian Daible,

first time head coach gets into the playoffs and their first appearance since 2016 when they lost to the Packers in the Wild Card round. That was, of course, the Odell Beckham boat trip game. The Giants guy, I think it was 3810 or something. Despite the lack of playoff experience on the roster, Brian

Dable does not seem worried. I've been in so many different situations. You know, the first year that I was part of a Super Bowl, the quarterback didn't have any playoff experience there at New England. Some of the guys did, some didn't. You know, we had some experience at Buffalo. We, you know, lost, you know.

I think it's really, really what you make out of it, Jordan, is the experience probably is overrated, to be honest with you. it's how you prepare, how you practice, and ultimately how you play the game and coach the game on whenever day it is. Well, think last year, Joe Burrow, no experience, won two road games. Matt Stafford, never won a playoff game. I mean, we had two teams last year, two stories with quarterbacks, coaches, make long, long, like McVeigh had made a playoff run before, but Zach Taylor, we didn't know two years ago if he was the right coach. So Cincinnati is a great example of no experience.

coach, staff, players, anybody, and they were better on the road than at home. Well, I think they were at home against the Raiders in the first round, right? Yeah, then they're back-to-back road wins. Correct. So I'll give you three other quarterbacks. I keep running notes throughout the week. Three other quarterbacks who made first time starts last year in the playoffs. Jalen Hertz.

Okay. Lost by 30. He was a kid. He was a kid. Kyler Murray, Arizona, lost by about 30 to the Rams. Not a great team, a kid. Mack Jones. Okay, a kid.

A kid. A kid. What is Daniels? Is he a kid? Well, Daniel's been in this league now. Four years. By the way, New York Giants fans are upset that we talk Jets so much. Now we're going to get a lot of Giants this week because we're in the playoffs.

This is actually one of my favorite upset picks of the year of the Giants, but now everybody loves the Giants. And now I don't like it as much. Now are you flipping? Are you flipping in Minnesota? I'm not flipping. I think it's a perfect matchup. I think what they do well, because the Giants, two young tackles, Thomas and Evan Neal are pretty darn good. So Daniel's going to have some time to operate.

He'll need it. So the Vikings aren't going to have a great pass rush, nor can they stop the run. I think the ugly Giants offense can ball control this thing with Sequin and Daniel moving. I think it's going to be a low scoring game. Yeah. I just get to these high leverage third downs. Third and seven, Daniel Jones. Who you looking for?

Well, that's been the story all year and they're in the playoffs. Yeah. All right. Final story. Another playoff game, Tua Tongue Vailoa, missed the last two games due to a concussion,

and his playoff status was in question. But after a recent update from Mike McDaniel, he says Tua has officially been ruled out. That was about an hour ago. The line skyrocketed up to 13. Buffalo. Yeah, Buffalo is going to crush him. Skyler Thompson. Oh, this will be terrible. This will be a lot. It sounds like Teddy Bridgewater is going to be a backup. He has a broken finger from when he tried to make a tackle. No, this is. Well, Buffalo. I mean, if you watch any of that Jets Dolphins game, Colin. Skyler Thompson cannot move the football at all.

Tyree Kills not a 100% healthy. Ask yourself this. Now all the people, all the media that wanted Tua protected, were you really helping it? You think inside those walls, this franchise now is all in on Tua, they're going to go get another quarterback. Well, there could be like six of them out there. Jimmy G. That's right. We don't know what's going on with Lamar, car.

But all. all the media people protect Tua were you protecting him he wants to play the organization now is protecting their butt they're not going to let him play and Tua's career to me in Miami you've got to go get a guy I read that he had to pass concussion protocol through three different doctors like the NFL is really cracking down on this as they should yeah but that makes it nearly impossible for him to come back well and I've said this before is we all this is a very nuanced conversation. Everybody jumps out, protect Tua, protect Tua. Tua's like, hey man, this is my career. I got one shot at this. This is it. I couldn't stay healthy in Alabama. I can't stay healthy in

Miami. Tua wants to be out there. So everybody got what they wanted. But Tua's career is probably over as a starter in this league. Nobody's going to spend money on Tua as a starter. And this kid has busted his butt since he was 12 years old. So it's a much more nuanced discussion than everybody wants to do, protect, protect, protect. But you say he's done as a starter. You know he's thinking, I'm putting in the work in the off season. I'm coming back as a starter next year. Okay, but concussions are different. I know.

This is not 1888. If Aikman gets a concussioner, Steve Young, we just go, hey, we'll see you next week. Those days are over. And concussions are what scare teams. Guys can overcome a knee injury or shoulder. Concussions, brain damage, the league fears it, teams fear it. Yeah. I don't even know what you tell the guy.

Like, if you're the, if you're the, John, Dolphins front office, like, hey, man. This morning, how I feel, I feel bad for Tua. Because I think deep down Tua wants to play, yet sometimes you have to protect a player from himself. So he's going to have now from January to August eight months of protection. I mean, talking to the neurologist, is that sufficient time for him to get back on the football field? Of course it is. But the question becomes who's going to dedicate themselves to somebody who has struggled with this? That's why this conversation is much more nuanced.

People want you to believe it's easy. Black and white, it's not a black and white. It's not these players, careers. This is not a journalist. You can be a journalist for 70 years. You can make watches, be a landscaper. You can do a lot. Quarterback, you get one shot to be the guy.

Drew Breeze is an outlier. And if you get hurt or you aren't dependable, you're out. They'll move on to the next crop of guys. And this is Tua's career, his family, his football, his faith, what matters to him. And so I have sympathy for Tua. I want him protected, but I bet you deep down privately, that kid wants to play. Of course he does, yeah. And by the way, he had a good, sorry, he had a very good run for like two months in the league where he was an MVP candidate.

Go back to that game in Buffalo. Remember that Miami game in Buffalo? Miami outplayed the bills. Tua is pretty good. Yeah. I mean, the only chance they had this weekend is Tua. Tua is the only chance they have. Now he's out.

And you're like, they need a backup plan going into next year. You can't have this happen again. Right. And so I think these discussions, Twitter makes everything simple. Life's not simple. Politics isn't simple. Nothing's as simple as the internet makes it. Jay Mack with the news.

What is it, since week nine? He outplayed Aaron Rogers totally. Look at the NFC quarterbacks this morning, outside of Jalen Hertz, who's in the running for the MVP. Who would you rather have? I'm telling you, that Jared Goff performance in Green Bay. and that Detroit Lion performance in Green Bay, we are not giving it credit. I felt like it was a franchise altering moment.

I don't consider them the dregs of the NFL. They pull themselves out of the swamp. Now Washington's in the swamp and Chicago lost 10 in a row. Houston Texans are in the swamp. Atlanta's close. They're knee-deep. Those guys are waist-deep. But I don't think we're taken into consideration seriously how big.

If Ben Johnson stays as the coordinator of the, Detroit Lions. Go look at Jared Goff's numbers. I laugh at these people who think the lions have to take a quarterback. Are you out of your mind? Are you watching the games? Jared Doff was outplayed. By the way, he beat Aaron Rogers twice this year. It's like, you think Jared Goff's the issue? The issue is safety. Linebackers are slow. They don't get a pass rush on the interior of the D-line. Like, I know what they got a draft. They got to go detackle, nose tackle, outside linebacker, get another corner of safety. That's their issue. Issues not offense. So we said this yesterday.

Every year, half the teams that make the playoffs don't, and we have seven new playoff teams. I'm telling you right now, Detroit and Pittsburgh, Detroit and the NFC, Pittsburgh and the NFC, Pittsburgh AFC, Detroit NFC, those are playoff teams if Ben Johnson stays. And maybe if the Steelers get a new offensive coordinator, but if the Lions keep one. I just thought that Lions win over Green Bay was much bigger than people think. I felt like it was a franchise altering win for Jared Gough, Ben Johnson, and Dan Campbell and the Lions.

With that, Peter King is joining us now. Okay, this Sean McVeigh stuff, listen, burnout, you're 36, you chose coaching. You know what I mean? That's like choosing construction as a career and saying, I don't like nails and hammers. Like, you work around the clock in coaching. What do you make of these McVeerumers?

I think he's struggling mentally with whether he wants to continue being a coach or whether he wants to live a better life right now. You know, he's newly married. You know, his wife has family in the Ukraine. I don't know. I think life is intruded a little bit, Colin. Plus, I think this, no matter how old you are, no matter how much you love your job,

you know, at some point, Sean Payton said it perfectly, since at some point you just get tired of chugging diet coke at 2 o'clock in the morning to stay awake. And, you know, I, I, and look, coaching is a very, very weird profession. And John Madden at a very young age said, I just can't do this anymore. It's literally driving me crazy. And he got out. I think McVeigh is the same kind of possessed guy. Now, when you're a possessive,

best guy and you have fantastic options, then I think you can afford to look at your mental health a little bit more. And I'm not claiming that he's going to go off the deep end or anything. But I just think that he looks at life now a little bit differently than before he got married and also before he just got beaten the head all season this year in an awful year. And look, here's the bottom line. I don't think for a second if Sean May he walks away, and I don't know whether he will or not, but I don't think for a second if he walks away that he's not coaching again. This is not a Bill Cower's situation.

Remember the first five, six, seven years, every year we entered a new offseason. Cower who got out at like 49, everybody was saying, okay, what jobs he taking this year? And he just chose to stay in TV and live a different life. well, in my opinion, Sean McVeigh is going to have chances and at some point he's going to take one of those chances if indeed he decides to go. I think Jerry Jones psychology is that he likes to feel necessary. Dak needed him for support. Jason Garrett did. McCarthy was in his basement coming up with some story that he watched everybody's plays all year. And I think that Mike McCarthy needs Jerry. Jerry likes to feel necessary. He wants to discover you or save you or protect. Jimmy Johnson didn't need protection.

Bill Parcells didn't need protection. By the way, Sean Payton doesn't need somebody to save him. I don't think it's a good fit. I think McCarthy fits him, and I think Mike McCarthy is going to be the coach of the Cowboys, win or lose to you this weekend. Well, let's see what happens if the Cowboys lose 30 to 13 in Tampa Monday night. I assume, just like everybody else, that Mike McCarthy is back, It makes all the sense in the world.

He's had two excellent regular seasons. But at some point, you know, Jerry Jones, who's like Robert Kraft right now, at some point, winning in the regular season is going to get a little fatiguing if that's not followed up by winning in January. So before I give Mike McCarthy the job for the next five years, I'd like to see what happens Monday night in Tampa. All right, that's fair enough, Peter King, all your experience there. All right, three straight years. Aaron as a favorite at home has been outplayed by Garoppolo in the fourth quarter, golf in the fourth quarter, and an old Tom Brady in the fourth, and I've said this before.

Hey, listen, things change. This is a fluid league. He's meeting with executives with Green Bay this morning. And I don't think it's crazy at 39 years old. I do think they think Jordan Love is now capable of starting. What's your guess they're talking about this morning in those meetings? Well, I'll tell you what they're thinking deep down inside. the Detroit Lions in their last nine games were seven and two and Jared Gough's touchdown to

interception ratio. Yep. Was 15 to zero. Zero. And I think what the Packers are thinking is, listen, you know, this is not only we got to beat back to Vikings now. We're going to have to beat back to Lions. And if Justin Fields comes back and the Bears can. continue to build a decent team, we're going to have three teams to compete with in this division, not just one. And we want to know, Aaron, are you in? That's what I would want to know if I'm

Brian Gutikinz or Matt LaFleur. And Colin, history is repeating itself. 15 years ago, this month, the Green Bay Packers suffered a crushing loss at home to the New York Giants. And the Giants went on to beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl. And that was the last game that Brett Farv ever played in Green Bay. And I'm not equating the loss to the Giants with the loss to the Lions. But I am equating the fact that in 2008, Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy wanted to know if Farv was going to be all in that offseason. They wanted him to work out with the team in the office season. off-season to do many camps, to do off-season stuff with his young receivers.

Okay? And on about March 8th, Farr called him and said, I can't do it. That's right. I guess I'm retiring. Yeah. So Aaron Rogers, I believe they're going to ask them, and I don't know this. This is certainly what I would ask them. You know, we need you to be more available in the off-season for Christian Watson and Aaron

Dobbs. We just do. let's be honest you know you missing the offseason last year wasn't good for the overall program so we need you at least at some points in the off season what's your attitude to that and again listen yeah we're up against the clock we're up against the clock peter we're up against the clock yeah okay Aaron Rogers has the right to say whatever he wants and to do whatever he wants the NFLPA has won the rights to give players back their offseason. Yep.
