Baker Mayfield and I now live in the same town. And football is always better when there's. more teams that can win the national championship in college or the Super Bowl and the NFL, and the Niners appear to be at least they'll have potentially for the last two or three games

of the year, Jimmy GQ. That's what you want, Colin. Jimmy G. coming off a foot injury facing the Dallas Cowboys pass rush and Micah Parsons. Is that what you want? Well, let's start with that. Garapolo, word is, he'll be out seven to eight weeks. Generally with pro athletes, if I get seven to eight weeks. My guess is six to seven weeks. They're young. They heal faster than most people. It was a great day for the Niners. Number one, his injury actually eliminates the free agent market. If they want to keep him, they don't have to bid against anybody. That injury now, nobody's going to bid on him in the free agent market. Secondly, they're still not paying Tray Lance and Brock Purdy. So if they ever wanted to bring him back, he made a big run in the playoffs. They could in their future

plans, not saying they would, but if he got to the Super Bowl, gets to the NFC championship, and just don't know what you have with Purdy and Trey Lance, you could bring him back. And when he does come back this year, Brock Purdy will have all sorts of reps to run the system. Look pretty good Sunday, didn't he? With no first team snaps all week? And veteran Jimmy G returns. Yesterday was a great day for the Niners. Seven to eight weeks is the divisional round, meaning he wouldn't be able to play.

in the opening round, that being against the giants or the commanders, the Seahawks. That's if they maintain the number three seed. My guess is they could. Those are games. He would have a chance to play at home. They would win those games. Remember, with this head coach and this defense and this run game, when they picked up Christian McCaffrey, this was never an offense that asked the quarterback to do really heavy lifting.

when they added Christian McCaffrey, you now have to even do less. I love Jimmy Garoppolo. He's got what they call dude qualities. He's alpha. The guys like him. He's four and two in the playoffs and is yet to play a great playoff game. He's really not been very good in the playoffs. He's been good in like series.

I thought he outplayed Aaron Rogers in Lambo last year in the fourth quarter. He outplayed Mahomes in a Super Bowl, the first half, certainly. He's had his moments, but hasn't put together a great. game. Christian McCaffrey makes this an easier lift for a quarterback. He's not replacing Brock Purdy's not replacing Burrough or Justin Herbert or Mahomes or Josh Allen where you have to have Superman qualities. No, what's Jimmy G. Do Well? Accurately throw the football and gets along with the guys in the locker room. That's it. Can you deliver strikes? Pertie's career in Iowa State and his first Sunday tells you he can deliver strikes and are you a guy's guy can you get along with guys because they love jimmy g

pretty iowa state kid by the way i read last night he was offered by alabama he fell in love with iowa state doesn't have a big ego delivers the ball grown up can move a little bit he's garoppolo light with better legs maybe he's not garoppolo light you know he went to a better college program than garoppelow he was a better high school player than garoppel who knows but mark Slareth wrapped it up yesterday. Jimmy G. potentially can return. And this kid actually, this is not a heavy lift to be a quarterback with this defense and coach. I think a couple of things that really impressed me with Purdy is he read protections. He defeated the blitz. He threw it to the right guy. I think he also manipulated people in the secondary with his eyes. I mean,

this is a kid that looks like a professional football player. In San Francisco, I think the thought process with the way they structure their offense and the way they structure their football team is we're not asking you to win football games at the quarterback position. We're just asking you not to lose football games. Remember, Jimmy Garoppolo won a NFC playoff game, throwing it eight times. So that's how they're constructed. That's how they're built. Absolutely going to beat a Giants team, a Seahawks team, a Washington team, playing at home if they maintain the three seed. great day for the Niners. Now, the perception is, great day for the Yankees.

Yesterday, they spent $360 million and gave out a nine-year contract to Aaron Judge. This is what the Yankees do now. They get trapped. They're not particularly well run, and they write silly checks. Nine-year deal for a guy entering his 30s, you're on the wrong side of that number. The player always wins on these contracts. Find me the nine and 10 year deal where a team in year six is like, we are crushing it. By year four or five, teams always are stuck with a big contract.

By the way, he bet on himself last year and had a great year. He earned it. But take away last year, go back to the previous four or five. There's a lot of injuries and a couple of good years. And by the way, baseball home run hitters, profound home run hitters, don't carry you to a World Series. You can pitch around them. They're facing the best pitchers. Aaron Judge, with almost 200 at bats, has hit 2.11 in the postseason. And last year, when the Yankees got swept in the ALCS, he was awful. He was one for 17. This is not the NFL, where if you pay big money to a

quarterback, you can have him throw it 54 times. You can build in eight or nine runs. I mean, Josh Allen's worth every penny. He touches the ball every play. This is not the NBA, where if you pay a guy of fortune like Janice. You get him on the defensive side of the floor, the offensive side of the floor. You get 40 minutes a night. He can touch the ball every time down. He can distribute. He can drive. He can finish. No, Aaron Judge is a baseball player. He'll get four at bat tonight and go ahead and pitch around him. He'll get walked well over a hundred times next year. You can walk him in the playoffs. He's not getting nine at bats. This is not football. It's not even soccer where you can get a guy a star more touches, four at bats. That is it. By the way, the Yankees spent over

300 million on Garrett Cole, never been worth it. Spent over 300 million on John Carlos Stanton, never been worth it. The Dodgers have let really good players go. They've lost bidding wars. Manny Machado, you know, Trey Turner. They've let some guys go because they're well-run, good farm system, spend wisely. Clayton Kershaw just signed a deal. One year, That's it. Teams never win on these nine-year deals, and the teams that do it are often desperate. The Yankees have an open checkbook and haven't won a World Series in 13 years, and they look like they're a mile from it. They weren't even competitive against Houston and the ALCS. Profound home run hitters, pitch around them.

To win a World Series, I mean, it's really interesting. even I can kind of do a pretty good job of predicting like who's going to win a division here in football, college football, March Madness. You kind of know who's going to win. Baseball's hard. You need a lot of arms. You need starting pitchers. You've got to have a setup man. You've got to have a great closer in a really strong bullpen.

You've got to have situational hitters. You have to be strong up the middle defensively. And you cross your fingers because they play 162 regular season games. And even guys as big as Aaron Judge are hurt all the time. John Carlos Stanton, as big as he is. There's injuries. And his home run hitters age, they don't always age well unless like a guy in San Francisco, they're on cattle steroids.

So to me, this is what the Yankees do. They get trapped. They try to catch up on their previous bad contract and they write silly checks. Everybody likes Aaron Judge. He's the face of baseball. There's no question he sells tickets. There is no question on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday home game.

You know, he's going to sell you 6,000 seats that you wouldn't sell. But, I mean, I just, I look at the Yankees and I think if I had an open checkbook in 13 years, you think you'd get a World Series title. And today, what have they done? They've still got multiple issues with this team. They weren't close at the end of the season. But in New York, it feels like a victory because they got the modern day Babe Ruth. nine years for a guy turning 30?

Nine. Find me the teams that feel good about these deals five years in. Forget seven, eight, nine in the end. Those are awful years. But I'm talking like four and five years in. Tell me the team in a nine, ten year deal that's like we're getting every penny. I can name off the top of my head and I'm not a baseball guy. I can name four or five that are disasters.

Profound home run hitters. You can sell some tickets. It's not getting you to a World Series champion. championship. What do you make of it, J. Mack? I don't want to come in too hard as a Yankees fan, but what were the other options, Colin? You could lose Aaron Judge to the Giants? Yankees print money. They could have given him $400 million. I don't think it would have mattered. Yeah, but you're a Yankee fan. Do you care about that or winning playoff games? How's this? I didn't want to lose Aaron Judge. Period. End of story. And the Yankees

fans would have been very upset if the Yankees had lost the best player in baseball last season. Did you see what he hit in the Houston series? I did hear that, yes. I'm aware of him. He did not do well. It was a weak performance in the postseason. I like him. I mean, he's a phase.

I like him. Everybody likes him. This goes down to the point you always love to make about baseball. Like the Yankees, it doesn't matter how much money they give him. They can keep spending. There's no cap, you know? I mean, they could just give money away. Dodgers do that.

Yankees do that. Red Sox do that. Astros? They do that too, don't they? That's a well-run team. Look at their minor league. system. Look at the players they've developed. That's a whole different ballgame. Houston. Now, now they had a trash can system for a while that helped. But I mean, I look at the Dodgers.

Dodgers have walked away from some big contracts because their research and development is excellent. Their minor leagues are excellent. They find guys like, you know, Max Muncie and you wake up one morning, you're like, who's that guy? They've done a really good job to develop. They walk away from people. They told Kershaw will give you one year. I mean, I think the Dodgers never feel desperate. I never think, by the way, the Astros feel desperate. I feel like the Yankees are writing checks to catch up for the last bad check. It's been a decade over plus since they made the World Series, right? 13 years since they won a title. They picked them off waivers. According to various reports, they were the only team that was interested. For a couple of years, three years or so, I talked about Baker Mayfield.

I swear to God, every other day during the... football season. I thought he was interesting. He was from Oklahoma. He was a number one pick. He was polarizing. He was making Cleveland relevant, which they haven't been for most of my radio TV career. But I said when he left Cleveland, I wouldn't talk about him as much because he's just not that interesting. Carolina's weak and he has proven to be overdrafted. The Rams right now are boring. I don't think with a bad old line and limited weapons, he'll find it any easier than he did in Carolina. I don't have a strong Baker take. I honestly wish him well. I don't root a against professional athletes.

Russell Westbrook can drive me crazy. Baker Mayfield drove me crazy, but he's a nice kid. He's married. Three other four RAM games are on some primetime TV. He'll probably make him a little more compelling. You know, my guess is everybody loves a comeback story, so he'll find a few people that'll grab onto him. But Andy Reid, offensive coaches like to resurrect people.

Andy Reid resurrected Michael Vick's career. Go ask Michael Vick, he did. Sean Payton loved Taysam Hill. Sean McVeigh saved Jared Goff's career. Josh McDaniels. Everybody told him, don't draft Tebow. And he drafted Tebow. Offensive coaches love to find young quarterbacks

and prove all their doubters wrong. I think it's too little and too late for Baker-Mainfield. Yes, I was right. I didn't think it was a strong take, although I got tons of pushback for saying a kind of short guy with an average arm who's cocky probably won't be worth the number one pick. I also said I thought his maturity would be his downfall.

It sometimes was snarky, not very likable. One of the things that was a revelation, I thought he would be a fairly accurate distributor of the football. His accuracy was always underwhelming and got significantly worse as his offensive lines maybe got a little worse. And the Ramso line is just not very good. And the team and the offensive personnel, what's left of it, is just not very good.

I don't have any anti or strong Baker-Mayfield take. I wish him well. His career is sort of what I thought it would be. And here is J-Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. From one bad quarterback to a good one.

Aaron Rogers, his future has been in question all season. Despite, he, it's on that contract extension earlier this year. Rogers has said it will be a mutual decision on whether he returns in 2023, and Packers' GM Brian Gutikunst says they'll have a discussion about his future in the offseason. Here's what he said when asked about Rogers. Do you want Aaron back next year?

Is that something that you just don't decide until the off season? Certainly that's an off season kind of decision, but surely, yeah, we went all our guys back. And we made a big commitment to him this off season, and so that was obviously something that was really important to us. but like we've talked about in the past this is something we'll sit down with him after the season and it'll be something we do together

and move forward that way what kind of answer is that what on earth is he saying you know how you answer that do we want Aaron Rogers backlight do we want the reigning back-to-back MVP who led us to three straight 13 win seasons do we want him back what do you think

reporter guy that's all he has to say what does he have to say this gobbly gook for well because with Aaron I think What I'm about to say is true. You kind of have to walk on eggshells. You've got to make sure it's not offensive. We've got Jordan Love hovering back there. Aaron's expensive and older.

I think this is one of the... I think nobody likes to work with somebody. They have to walk on eggshells around. And I think this is part of the fissure in the relationship is every time those Packer people go to the microphone, it's just word salad. They just don't want to say anything that offends Aaron. Wait, wait, let me ask you. If you've got to walk on eggshells around this guy, why back up the brinker? drinks last summer and pay him the money. Well, you had no options. You can't be terrible. It's the only

game in town. You didn't have any options. You backed yourself in a corner. If Jordan Love could play, you'd have let him go. If Jordan Love ended up being what Aaron was behind Favre, you'd let him go. But Jordan Love at that point couldn't play. So you're Goudicunst and you're looking around talking to the floor and everybody says, well, what do we do we do here? We trade him? Deal with the dead cap hit? Do we just ride him out? I've told you, Tennessee's the landing spot. I've got a theory on this later in the show. I think you're going to like it. On Tennessee and Rogers? On the Green Bay situation, I'm going to throw it at you in 30 minutes from now. I think you, because we both like theories and, you know. Oh, I love the looking to the future. Yeah. So I've got one on what I think green base thinking

a little with Jordan Love. We cooked it up this morning and it makes a lot of sense. And I think you're going to really like it. And it's going to be one of those where it lands and you're going to go, oh, wow, that's really possible. Okay. I'm excited. excited to do it. Top of next hour. I hope it's not Jordan Love waiting in the wings. It's got to be better than that. Next up, the Bucks made use of their no-huddle offense Monday night pulling off a miraculous game-winning drive, two touchdown drives in the final six minutes against the Saints. And after seeing that no-huddle offense, Todd Bowles is committed to implementing it more going forward. Here's what he had to say.

Well, you've implemented it some. We did it against Atlanta. I thought we did it a little bit of it was either Carolina or Pittsburgh as well. We can implement it. minute more. It all starts with the quarterback. You know, he can dissect things. He's seen plenty of times. I guess the urgency clicked even more so in a two minute being down that way. And guys just locked in. You know,

you want to do that the entire game, but unfortunately that didn't happen. So, you know, we're just glad we got it in the end. Defensive coach. I mean, two weeks ago against Cleveland, where was the no huddle offense in the final 45 seconds with two timeouts? What were you doing, dude? What was worse? Todd Bulls'

offense in the first three quarters or Dennis Allen's offense in the last five minutes. Like two defensive coaches. Let's be clear. It's Byron Lefwich is the offensive coordinator. Him and Brady have been butting heads. I'd be really curious if Brady just said you know what, screw what this guy's talking about. I'm running the two-minute drive here. I'm Tom Brady,

the goat. Tampa's got some problems. They have a big one this week, by the way. One of the better games. It's pretty good. It's a tough slate for gambling, but it's only Wednesday. All right. Final story. The Miami Dolphins. Toa Tunga Maloa missed the final series

against the Niners with a quote-unquote ankle injury. With the upcoming matchup against the Chargers, Mike McDaniel is confident to it will be good to go against Justin Herbert. It'll just be mindful of what he does. Really, you're looking at Wednesday, just making sure that we don't do anything to have any setbacks, you know, break in the pocket and whatnot.

but very confident. Don't anticipate any sort of setback that would negate him playing in the upcoming football match. I am a buyer on Tua this week because anytime you play in a big TV game, Dolphins Niners was a very high, you know, interest marquee game. Tua looked rattled and overwhelmed. Now the market sells on him. Miami is not going to. to face a defense that good for the rest of the season. In fact, there's an argument they won't face a

defense. I mean, the jets are good. They're not that. So this is, that defense is built to stop Tua. A smaller quarterback missing his tackles. That was a worst case scenario for Tua. Miami is a good football team total by the rest of the way. Anytime a good team has a competent quarterback, Tua's competent, and they have a bad performance. I'm always buying them the next week. Interesting. Well, everybody's selling the Chargers as well. They lose to the Raiders, Braden Staley's job is on the line.

Still no word on Bosa. What's going on? Bosa hasn't played in months. I have been. His brother just wrecked the Dolphins' offensive line last week. Can you imagine Bosa and Khalil Mack in this game? They would kill Tua. I mean, I don't know what's going on with the Chargers, but I don't know.

I think we're on the opposite sides on this. This is one of those kitchen sink games for Staley. He knows I better win this damn game. Because he could end up tied with the Raiders after this. I think if he loses this game, your GM and your owner have to have a meeting. You have to sit down and go, okay, we're bad on his side of the ball. And what would they be five and seven? I think they're six and six.

Or six and seven. Yeah, I mean, I think you're getting to a time when the owner and the front office has to sit down and make real decisions and start looking at the market. Like last week's game Miami when Sam Fran was huge. I think this could be one of the biggest games of the month of December. So much on the line for Staley. You've talked about the potential coaches that want this job. Maybe Harbaugh and Payton.

There's a lot riding on the line for the Chargers and Miami as well. Tua needs to get his confidence back, Colin. I don't care what people say, oh, Tua's fine. It was one bad game. He looked totally shook in that game. I mean, he was a turnover machine. He was scared, happy feet in the pocket, missing when he throws. If you fought Tyson in his early days,

I mean, even Michael Spinks. Yeah. You got happy feet. Like, you could feel the hit before it arrived. You could, your next fight, if you didn't fight, Tyson, you were back to being you. I think when you face the Niners, ask Kyler Murray, you're small. You've been banged up. I think they're totally intimidating.

They're literally the 85 bears. I think, I mean, you watch film on these guys. Everybody's physical. Hell, they beat each other up in practice. They're never healthy. So I think San Francisco is one of those two. teams that you get a little heat early, they get into your head fast, and it's not like ghost.

You're seeing Bosa and Armstead and Fred Warner. They are so physical that I, Tua will never, I think Tua was completely rattled and welcome to the club. A lot of young quarterbacks would be rattled against that defense. By the way, Miami has Buffalo on the road next week. Putting that out there. All right. Jay Mack with the news.

Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The heard of the hour. I'm going to give you my Jordan Love Aaron Rogers take, and I think it's really interesting. So yesterday or the day before, John Robinson got fired, and Jason and I were on the show, and you don't get, GMs don't get fired in the middle of the season. That's just not the way the game works. And we don't talk a lot of Titans.

They're not a fun team to watch. But everybody's struggling to figure out why it happened. And I was, you know, over the last 24, 36 hours, I've kind of, you know, know, this is what I like to do. Like explore, read, see, I'll throw something at you. Number one, Mike Vrable is the guy. He has over the last two years sort of established himself as a top five, six coach in the NFL. The owner sees that, reads that, hears that. Everybody loves Vrable. Physical presence, smart plate. Everybody loves Vrable. Number two is John Robinson, the GM that got canned was a defensive lineman in college football. Guess what the Titans are really good at.

defensive line. A man knows what he knows. Five of their top eight cap hits are defensive guys. But every year with the Titans, don't we ask the same question? Do they have the weapons to beat Mahomes or Josh Allen? With Mahomes, you can deal Tyreek Hill. It hurts. It's not a great day, but you can deal Tyreek Hill, get picks and players, because Mahomes can carry a bad defense. He can carry a franchise. When you, have Ryan Tannahill, you cannot give up a star-wide receiver. But this former college defensive lineman who knows the defensive side of the ball, how many times have we seen this in this league the last four years? A defensive coach has no understanding of offense. Belichick, clunky doesn't get it. Mac Jones has regressed badly the minute Josh McDaniels left. Brady left.

He was just exhausted from Belichick's lack of offensive sensibility. defensive GMs, John Robinson, can't get the offense right. He's whiffed on a great left tackle, supposedly, a complete whiff. He lets A.J. Brown go. If you have Ryan Tannahill, the last three times they've been knocked out of the playoffs, they've been knocked out by Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow. And you got Tannahill. The one guy you can't let go of is his number one over-the-top target.

The other thing is, and this is something I went looking over the last, couple days. I don't think it's like I've been in radio. I know radio. Like if I was in digital forever or tech, I would know tech. Same with you. You know what you know. You know your experience.

So years ago, the Jets, I thought about you, had a GM name Mike McCagnan, played defense. He was a defensive player in college. He was the worst offensive drafter I've ever seen. He hit a couple of home runs on defense. He was pathetic on offense. He drafted a safety over Mahomes and Deshawn Watson. He drafted Christian Hakenberg out of Penn State. I had a general manager in the league tell me he could not have possibly watched Christian Hakenberg play his last year of college and drafted him, period.

He drafted him in the second round. I went on the air at ESPN and said, that is the worst pick I've ever seen in the second round. He never played. Nothing against the kid. I think he's a high school coach. Now he's probably a great guy. But it's like that guy, McCagnan, hit a couple of homer. runs on defense. He was a disaster offensively. And John Robinson, don't we always feel the same

thing about the Titans? They just don't have the dudes offensively. They're still running an 80s offense with Derek Hill running downhill. And so my takeaway is Robinson's probably a competent GM, certainly great with a defensive line, a position he played in college. He's great. They always have a good D-line. Is that a coincidence that what he played in college, his side of the ball he's great at. Their defense is tough and physical and great up front. That's what he knows. That's what he played. That's what he does. That's what he loves. That's what he feels. So, you know, when you think of Pete Carroll, you think defense. When you think of Belichick, you think defense. Look around this league. Mike Zimmer. Look how good the Vikings have suddenly got with an offensive

coach. Mike Zimmer's an excellent coach. But in this league over the last seven to eight years, it's pivoted offense. You know that. I know that. And defensive GMs, experts, And defensive coaches, they better get good running mates. They better get them. But Mike Frable was distraught when they let A.J. Brown go. Do you remember the press conference? Mike Frable is not a guy that shows a ton of emotion. He's pretty stoic.

You know, he's pretty alf out there on the sidelines. He's not a yeller and screamer. That was about as emotional as Mike Frable gets. He knew that was a horrible day if he wanted to beat Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar, Joe Burrow. they had to count on a rookie that hopefully hit they would draft at wide receiver. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.

For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Played in the NFL, three Super Bowl rings. He's been with Fox for years and years. We love to bring him on. And not just Cowboy Talk, because last week, you had a game which had so many storylines.

You had the Dolphins, two of the hot streak, and this unbelievable, immovable force called the Niners' defense. So Garoppolo gets hurt. Here comes Brock Purdy. you knew a little bit about Purdy and his background. And, you know, I'm watching in that game and I'm thinking, Moose, I'm thinking he didn't take any number one snaps all week. This is pretty good. You knew a little bit about his backstory.

Tell that. Yeah, it was funny because we had San Francisco in the opener against Chicago. So we kind of followed them all the way through training camp. And I remember it came down to a decision who's going to be our third quarterback. And the organization decided to go with Brock Purdy over now. eight Sudfeld, who they'd given a signing bonus to. So obviously, he was somebody that felt very comfortable with. And I think the great thing about this was the number two quarterback, number three, moving up to number two, always says, I'm just one snap away. And I prepare during the course of

the week for that. And it's, it's something that we hear that kind of becomes cliche. But when you watch a guy go out and take advantage of that opportunity, the way that Brock Purdy did, it's just so fun for us to watch. And he did a tremendous job. And here's, here's another one. So Joe Davis is very familiar with Brock Purdy when he was doing college football at Iowa State. He texts Matt Campbell as he's coming onto the field and he's having a dialogue with Matt Campbell and they're going back and forth. He was able to bring some really, really good information directly from Brock Purdy's head coach there at Iowa State. Yeah, and should be noted if you watch Brock Purdy in college, one thing he does well, super accurate. 68% in college, 67% Sunday.

he may be small, but the kid can distribute the football, and Kyle Shanahan loves that. Now, Tua is interesting. He'd had a great year. But I felt he got, you know, in golf they call it the yips when you just can't, you can't. I felt early in that game, Darrell, I felt he could feel that rush. I mean, he's had some injuries. I totally get it. But I felt he was a little unnerved by it, that pass rush.

That's what I felt. Did you see any of that? I'm not going to say that. I'm going to go the other way. I'm not going to say it was the rush that got to him. I'm going to say it was the moment that got to him. I mean, this is a guy who, you know, the first couple of years of his career is just kind of, you know, kicked around.

We did them four times last year post-Halloween. And we were right there during the trade deadline. And all the Deshawn Watson talk and everything that's going on and you sit down to talk to him. I felt bad for him. I mean, they had really kind of broken his spirit a little bit there. The gentleman that I met with last Thursday, getting ready for this game, was completely different than the two of that I met last season. So I was just excited to see that passion back, the love of the game back. And I think just all that emotion, you know, he's got Mike McDaniel who believes in him.

He's got somebody that believes in him for the first time in a while. I think all that emotion just got him all juiced up for that game. I think it was more the adrenaline than feeling the rush because he's really good. He's very subtle in his movements inside the pocket. And he can navigate it well. I will credit a little bit to San Francisco's linebackers. I talked about them during the game, and when I watched the game on the way home on Monday, they were even better than I remember doing it live.

They were getting depth that I don't think other people were getting against Miami, and they were really kind of taken away some of those windows that I think, too, it had gotten comfortable throwing. So I'm going to give a little bit of credit to that Niners linebacker group as well. Yeah, boy, Fred Warner has just been an unbelievable pro. He is so fast. One of the things I love about pro sports, I make predictions. You know, quarterbacks coming out of college.

It's fun. I take a side. I would have never guessed that Jalen Hertz would be this good. I am shocked. And the first Jalen Hertz I saw, I thought, okay, that's what I saw. Limited is a thrower, going to be, you know, he'll make plays. I watched him against the Vikings and the Titans. He's a monster.

He's a machine. And he's taking. Moose, he's getting like Josh Allen. He's made a huge leap year two to three, a massive leap. You have the Eagles Giants this week. When you look at film, are you surprised a little by it? I am. I am.

And then we get all the information so we get to read. And I had him, I gosh, I think it was 2020. I don't even think I had them last year. I think we're going all the way back to the end of 2020. The one thing he had is he had that intangible around him. All the guys loved them. Love playing for him. playing side by side with him.

Was he a great passer then? No, he had a lot of work to do. That was a concerted effort this year in the offseason. Was Jalen Hertz going out to California, working with a coach, getting better? It was an emphasis by the organization, too. Not just for you to go get better, but guess what we're going to do. We're going to bring some guys in around you that are going to help you get better. And AJ Brown has just been unbelievable offense. You know, what they can do.

The thing that's scary about Philadelphia is what you, want to be able to do is win in a number of different ways. And already through the course of this season, they've shown multiple ways where they can win a game. I mean, when you go back-to-back games where you go 350 plus rush, 350 plus pass, what are you going to do as a defense to stop this offense? That's the scary thing about Philadelphia. You're going to work all week long. You're going to look at the matchups. You're going to come to Sunday. We're going to kick off. The game's going to unfold, and they've got a lot of solutions to however that game is going to roll out. And that's the scary thing about him.

But I give Jaylon Hertz a ton of credit. He really focused on it. Coach Sireani, obviously talking to him about where we need to get better. And I'm going to bring guys around. They're going to help you through this process. So that's the big thing. And then what they did on the defensive side of the ball, this is a really good team. I thought they were going to be good.

I thought they were the team that would challenge Dallas for the NFC East. I just liked what they did on the defensive side in free agency. They're better down in the trenches. the Dallas is on both sides of the wall. And I thought they'd be good, but I didn't think they'd be this good. So they play the Giants and, you know, I made this comment

and I made it a few times that we sometimes we don't understand how great the greats are. I mean, people for 15, 20 years game planned against either a Kobe Bryant or a Michael Jordan or a Larry Bird or a Peyton Manning and they still couldn't stop it. They got all

the focus. So what makes Mahomes amazing, his best months are like November, December, January, right? When you have the most film on him, he's even better. If you got a guy that is probably not elite, the more film you get, the more

vulnerable he is. And I look at the giants and I think, okay, Dayball comes in, Moose, he brings his system, they start the season six and one. Now everybody's got film on him, and they're one, three, and one in their last five. And my takeaway is, this is what happens at

quarterback when everybody's got film on Mahomes, he's impossible virtually to beat later in a year. And I look at the Giants and I think to myself, if Jalen Hertz goes out and just looks spectacular, do you think the giants deep down know that maybe they have to make a move at quarterback? It's going to be hard for him. You know, you meet some really, really good points. You know, the start of the season, I think everybody was excited to see Daniel Jones, have somebody behind him that believed to him. Everything we just said about Tua, you can probably take that. And, you know, it's very similar to what Brian Daibald has brought to the Giants with Daniel Jones.

I agree. I agree that the more you get comfortable with seeing how Mike Kafka and Brian Daible are going to use him in this offense, the easier it is to defend him. I still think you need to allow him to run. And this is something that I talked to Jason Garrett about when he was the offensive coordinator with the Giants, is we didn't run him enough. We didn't utilize his skill set that he brings as a mobile quarter. enough in our offense. And I think sometimes you worry so much about the injury that's going to happen. You have to trust them to be smart.

Here's the difference I've seen this year. The two guys that have really kind of had phenomenal years, you know, playing quarterback, you know, what Justin Fields has brought to that Chicago Bears offense since they've turned him loose. He doesn't play the position smart yet. He's still a little bit stubborn. You can see a little bit of Cam Newton in him. He's going to drop the shoulder.

He's going to try and run some guys over. That takes its toll at this level. When you watch Jalen Hertz play the quarterback position and he's running, just like Russell Wilson. He's very, very smart. He doesn't take the unnecessary hits. And I always remember Tony Saragusa, you know, sharing stories. You know, hey, I'm really slow when I go get off that quarterback.

I always give them a little push, you know, as I'm getting up. I mean, Tony knew the tricks of the trade to wear down the quarterback during the course of the game, take some of that energy from them. I don't think some of these guys realize how much I need the energy they're expending. and then the subtle ways that the defense can even take a little bit of more from them. Finally, Odell Beckham, we got a minute left. Would you sign him if it was five, six million bucks? Would you sign him for two years?

Most people would sign him for a year. Would you sign him for a couple if you had to? Is he worth it? For me, I would say no, especially in Dallas, because they are so far up against the cap. Do they need a little bit of help on the outside? A guy like Odell Beckham coming in and providing that, sure. The concerns that I think a lot of people would have is, is it the O'Dell Beckham from the Giants or is it the O'Dell Beckham from the Rams? Yeah.

You know, obviously sounds like you're going to get that guy from the Rams that wants an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. You know, that's the ability that he has right now, who he's shopping himself too. When you look at Dallas and Buffalo and the teams, you know, the two teams that are there that have an opportunity to win that championship again, there's nothing that's going to burn him more than to get hurt in that game last year and not be able to play a really big role in that game, the way that he had started that afternoon. He's going to want to get back out there and get another opportunity to be in that Super Bowl. So which team gives me the best shot? So he's got that luxury.

But for Dallas, I just, I don't know if it's going to help them this year. And so if you're looking down the road, I think there's better options when you get into next year. So for me, I would pass on it. But we'll wait and see what happens here. Well, Moose is the executive VP. That's a big title of the USFL. Second season starts April 15th on Fox. He is a busy, busy guy.
