A lot of good football teams in this league that did not make the herd hierarchy. J-Mack is joining us today. Nick, right next hour. A lot of things to talk about the waiver wire. You've got to make your claims by 10 this morning an hour from now. Will the Niners make a move on Baker-Mayfield? A lot of talk about that. You said you'd consider.

I would have lunch over it, but wouldn't make the move. Would you do it? I'm stealing a backup quarterback. All right. That's J. Mack. We'll talk about that. So Tom Brady was screaming at people on the sideline last night. Tom Brady is no longer tired of football.

No, he's not tired of football. He's tired of Tampa Bay. He yells more. He's angrier more. His body language now is very Aaron Rogers. He goes to the bench by himself. He barks at teammates. He's frustrated.

Brady is Mr. Discipline. the bucks and I used to cover them have been perpetually squirly my entire life. It was always an odd fit, right? It's the couple that's really, really super attracted to each other. But ideally two or three years in, you're like, these are different people. But they gave him weapons. They gave him a say. They gave him a voice.

They gave him Bruce Ariens, an offensive coach. It was very attractive. And Brady was really smart. He brought in people to Tampa that would make the weird things. fit comfortable. He brought in A.B. He brought in Gronk. He brought in his training staff. He brought in his family. They run a Derek Jeter's house. He tried to make himself as comfortable as possible, but it was always an absolutely odd fit. And now he's divorced. There's no gronk. He's got a defensive coach. Three years on this pirate ship at sea, scurvy is setting in. There's a

mutiny brewing and they've run out of fresh avocados. It's just not pretty. Tom, Brady looks like, every person watching or listening to this show who is leaving a company in about three months, the company doesn't know it, you know it, and you're just putting in the minimum work, you're getting frustrated more, you start rolling your eyes more, you leave work a little early, you still want to be productive, you don't want to harm your legacy, you don't want to ruin your reputation, but Brady is done with Tampa. And this is the way it was going to end. Listen, he and Belichick really are perfect for one another. They're both disciplined, willful, driven, and smart. But there's an old saying, when two people are savers, you know,

they put away their pennies and nickels, one of them becomes a super saver and drives the other one crazy, right? When two people are disciplined, one is super disciplined and drives the other a little crazy. And in the end, Tom was like, I'm not getting respect, I'm not getting a say. And he took a big swing and it was an odd fit. But for about a year, it was a pretty good fit. But it's never been perfect. They were seven and five year one. Now they're angry.

They've moved off Ariens. We thought from day one, Ariens was a weird fit, but now they kind of miss him. And so you can't help but watch Brady last night and think about the San Francisco 49ers next season. Brock Purdy, I think he's the answer now. but next year, big picture, last guy taken in the draft, Mr. Irrelevant, probably not the future for Kyle Shanahan, who to win a Super Bowl would have to out duel an Aaron Rogers, a Joe Burrow, a Mahomes, of Josh Allen. I don't think he's going to go equipped with Josh.

Pretty. So Tom Brady after looks like he is not tired of football. He's tired of the squirrely, perpetually odd. off the rails, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and here's Tom after. Just like we drew it up. It's like we drew it up. This is the first time you beat the Saints at Home, also scored a touchdown against the Saints at Home.

What does that mean to the team? Yeah, it's kind of, it's the truth. I'm glad we won. By the way, I've been corrected. The waiver claims need to be in by 4 p.m. Eastern today. So this is what's interesting because a lot of people are talking about Baker Mayfield in San Francisco. I would not do it personally. But there are a lot of people that I trust Mike Silver reporter says it's very possible that the 49ers would want him.

So Brock Purdy isn't the future. I don't think anybody thinks that. But for the next eight to ten weeks, it's fascinating. So this is why it's interesting. What does the head coach want from his quarterback? Kyle Shanahan has a very specific plan, scheme. design. Very specific. All Kyle Shanahan offenses elevate the quarterback. As long as the quarterback is an adult, is mature, does not ad lib out of the play. Matt Scha, Brian Hoyer, Matt Ryan,

Ryan, Jimmy Garapolo, and they can accurately distribute the football. That's what he's looking for. Brady's not a guy that's going to run around. He can accurately deliver the football. Never forget. two, three years ago, who was the quarterback rumored to be going to the Niners? Kirk Cousins doesn't run around, accurately delivers the football. Shanahan likes Brady, Kirk Cousins, Jimmy Garoppolo. Now, Trey Lance, that's why a lot of people feel that Kyle's already sort of bailed. Remember, what was the story before the draft?

Kyle wanted Mack Jones. other guys, the scouts were like, no, Trey Lance is way better. So we know what the coach in San Francisco wants. So enter Brock Purdy. Four years at Iowa State, he completed 68% of his throws. He's small. He didn't have a huge arm, but he's accurate. I mean, Sunday is a great example.

Huge game, massive pressure, big stage, Dolphins brought blitz packages all game long. He completed 67%. percent of his throws. He didn't even get number one first team reps all week. He is what Shanahan likes. Now, he's Garoppolo light. Garopalo's bigger presence, a little taller. You know, I think those are with a little more velocity. But Brock Purdy is not a guy that's going to, at this stage in his career with this roster, ad lib or throw picks. Now let's transition to Baker Mayfield, whose career NFL accuracy is 61% and it's getting worse.

One of the real revelations about Baker Mayfield, when he came to the NFL as, well, we knew he wasn't big, we knew he wasn't a great athlete, but man, did he snap that ball off? He was accurate. No, he's not. And it's gotten worse. His best year was 2020. He's, he's, 62.8%. The following year it was 60%. This year it's 57.8%. I don't have an explanation for it, but one of the revelations with Baker Mayfield was what happened to his accuracy? And now it's gotten worse. And remember all those numbers I just shared with you on Baker, that's behind Nick Chob and a great old line. The minute you put him in Carolina and he had to hurry throws, watch out. What's San Francisco's weakness outside of left tackle? The offensive line. So I don't think

Baker Mayfield fits here. The two things he is inaccurate as an NFL quarterback. He's not cousins. He's not Garoppolo. He's not borough. He's not. That's not what he is. And what's the other thing that Baker brings to the table that can infuriate people. He thinks he's a way better athlete than he is. He is not very disciplined. He's the two things that Kyle generally doesn't love, inaccurate and undisciplined. Brock Purdy's not the future. Some you date, some you marry in life, right? Goes for men and women. Purdy's not somebody I'm going to go into a seven-year relationship with, but for the next 10 weeks, a young kid with this roster, snap it off, 67% all draw it up, stay within the play, deliver it. I think he'd be great.

I think he'd be fantastic. I don't see him able to go to Philadelphia and make a play or two to win it. But if that game was at home, maybe. I do think he's good enough. Today, the New York Giants would travel. I think it is to San Francisco and play the Niners. I think we talked about that yesterday. Oh, he'd win that game.

Absolutely. They're better across the board than the Giants. And maybe if he had to go to Tampa and play the Buccaneers on the road. Oh, they'd win that game too. I don't think Brock Purdy can beat a Cincinnati in the Super Bowl, a Buffalo, a Kansas City, and I don't think he's going to win at Philadelphia. But if you're just looking at what the coach likes, he likes pretty. You know, that's the style that he likes.

He wanted Mac Jones. There were rumors about Kirk Cousins, more rumors about Tom Brady. None of those guys are moving around, designed to play, efficiently distribute the leather. here's Kyle Shanahan talking about interest in Baker Mayfield. We look into everything, but that's, I mean, surprised me right now, and we've got to discuss more this afternoon and stuff. But I've always been a fan of his, but feel real good about our players. And we'll look in everything, but I feel pretty good with where we're at right now.

You know, Brock Purdy is, you know, he's one of those guys because he was a four-year starter in college. So he got a ton, like Kenny Pickett with the Steelers. He started for four years. both have ceilings. Kenny Pickett's a bigger, you know, better arm, bigger quarterback. But four years of starting in college is a real thing. There were a lot of big games against Oklahoma,

Texas, television games, big games, sold out stadium, road games. The kid's been around. That's why Sunday, when they inserted him into a huge game, he didn't get first team reps all week long. He hasn't gotten first team reps all season. He was actually, he was pretty good. Pretty accurate. This roster, you can win a lot of games as long as it remains as healthy as it is today

and as weak as the NFC is today. You can say Tom Brady was great last night for two drives. Tampa is going to win that division, and they're a mess. I mean, look around. Aaron Rogers team, not very good. Start looking around the NFC. It's Philadelphia at home is a handful. and that's it.

To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is. the second episode where we've discussed, correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.

Very interesting. The Titans just fired their GM after the receiver he traded to Philadelphia, Jay Brown roasted his team, the Titans, so the Titans just fire their GM. You know, there's the old feeling if you're going to make a trade, you trade somebody

out, definitely out of division and out of conference. So you don't get beaten by them regularly. Now, obviously the Titans are an AFC team. The Eagles are an NFC team. They don't play on a regular basis. But it does illustrate the one time they did meet, the GM trades A.J. Brown to Philly, and that year, Philly comes back and crushes them in A.J. Jay Brown's dominant, it shows you why people generally on these moves,

get, you know, the Packers, Brett Farv, go to the Jets. The closer he got to Green Bay with the Vikings, the more painful it was. Like you want guys out of the area code, out of the division, out of the conference. So that GM, you can speculate all you want. GMs do not get fired in season. Week 14, Colin? Never. They were the number one seat in the AFC last year.

They're leading their division right now. their playoff bound you've got to figure there's got to be something else yes essentially the media crushed the titans GM saying you let this guy go now by the way the Titans use that number one pick and draft the receiver who is their best receiver yeah Treylon Burks is having a very good season yeah as a rookie of course yeah when he's healthy so I mean so the point is he didn't ball on the move but this is this is one of the reasons listen it's one thing if you get a divorce it's another if if you divorce your wife and she moves next door to you and dates George Clooney. It's painful. You see it every day. It's painful.

You try to ship people, and they did. They moved him to Philadelphia. Little did they know when they face the Eagles. A.J. Brown would, you know, have the day. What does this do for Malik Willis, the quarterback they just drafted? Like the GM drafts a quarterback. Malik Willis look very spotty. I mean, he's not ready. You got to figure the next guy's going to want his own quarterback in there. I don't know. Oh, boy. This is, we've talked about Tennessee being a very interesting spot for Aaron Rogers. Rumors are he's been interested in living in Nashville. Just some thoughts on that. We talked about that ad nauseum last week, two or three different segments on Aaron and the Titans and the Packers and his future, blah, blah, blah.

This is interesting. So Bob Cravitz is a popular, long time, you know, a voice in Indianapolis sports said the Colts need a savior. It's not Jeff Saturday. The Colts need Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh used to play for the Colts. And what's interesting is, Part of his reasoning is, well, it was just last year. One year ago, he and the Vikings, they had this little dolliance when they kind of, you know, Minnesota Vikings, Jim Harbaugh, totally different jobs. The Vikings was interesting. Veteran capable quarterback, star receiver, non-meddling owners, Aaron Rogers aging in division, and the lions and the lions and the bears are historically dysfunctional. That's an interesting job.

I would consider that job. Indianapolis is not a good job. They're a mess at quarterback. The roster has multiple holes. They have an impulsive meddling owner. That's not interesting. Jacksonville is young and surging and the Titans are well run. So to me, the Vikings Colts are different jobs.

Jim Harbaugh has to be picky. When Jim Harbaugh was last in the NFL, what, eight years ago, you could get to the Super Bowl with an average quarterback. He did, Colin Kaepernick. Some would say below average. That's not the league anymore. Rules lean, heavy offense. You've got to have a B plus to an A quarterback to really be special in this league. And the idea of the belief that the NFL is just a better place to be a coach, there are

four or five jobs in college football that are great. Michigan, I think is great. Texas, USC, Georgia, great jobs. You can dominate recruiting and live in a cool town. I don't want to live in a lot of these college football towns, middle and nowhere, rural. I'm not interested. Ann Arbor's great. Athens is great. Living, you know, where Palos Verde's, where Lincoln Riley lives, Austin, Texas.

Those are great American places to live and great brands. There's only about, you can say on Notre Dame, I don't want to live in cold weather in South Bend, Indiana. I'm not interested. My wife's not interested. I don't want to live in a small southern town. My wife wouldn't move with me. Ann Arbor, Austin, Athens. Athens is a great town in the south.

One of the great, two great towns in the south. Nashville, Athens, great place to live. So this, when I, you know, it's interesting about this. When I look at the Harbaugh situation, there's been so many changes in our life. Movie stars now do TV shows. What? Yeah, that changed. There were Julia Roberts and a couple other big stars about seven, eight years ago,

decided, oh, I'm going to do TV shows. I think it was Julia Roberts that kind of started it. And when I was a kid growing up, doctors and lawyers. They had the big houses. They can't afford nice neighborhoods in L.A. It's venture capitalists. Things change. A college football coach at seven or eight spots, not many of them.

It's better than an NFL job. A lot of these NFL jobs, Indianapolis right now, impulsive meddling owner, no quarterback, holes in the roster. That's a bad job. You got an owner that got rid of a coach, got rid of Carson Wentz after 27 touchdowns and seven picks. Chris Ballard's the GM. How long is he there? So, I mean, and also, here's another thing that's happening in the NFL that is a little uneasy if you're a coach. It used to be, you always gave a guy two years.

David Culley, Houston got a year. Freddie Kitchens got a year. Steve Wilkes got a year. I think Lovie Smith's going to get one year. Nathaniel Hackett's going to get a year. As the business has grown in the NFL and the owners have gotten richer, and we have a bigger gap between the billionaires in the world and the rest of us. Writing off a $35 million contract is a rounding error. These owners will move off you in a year if you don't get it right. So Michigan is a better job than any NFL job except the one with Patrick Mahomes,

the one with Joe Burrough, the one with Josh Allen, and maybe the one with Justin Herbert. That is about it. Michigan's a better job because the NFL is the best coaching. It is the most rewarding. It is the most watched. It is the most lucrative. But second is Michigan, SC, Texas, Georgia.

Those are great jobs. Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, Con, let's start with the New England Patriots. Boy, this offense is ghastly. We saw Mack Jones yelling at Matt Patricia, a couple F-bombs on Thursday night football.

I mean, some of these statistics are staggering. First downs, third-down efficiency, red zone efficiency. They're all near the bottom of the league, performing like the Houston Texans or something. But heading into week 14, Belichick thinks it's too late to make any big changes to their game plan. We need to do what we're doing better. I don't think at this point making a lot of dramatic changes is too hard to do that. If we can just do consistently what we're doing, I think we'll be all right, but we just haven't been able to have enough consistency.

It's not one thing. It's just one time it's one thing. Next time it's something else. We just have to play and play and coach more consistently. Yeah, it's almost like the coach everybody always criticizes Josh McDaniel. Last year with Josh McDaniel and a rookie quarterback. They were sixth in scoring. This year they're in the 20s.

So you can say what you want. Everybody's bailed on Josh McDaniels. The Raiders missing their number two and three pass catchers are significantly better on offense than last year. The Patriots are significantly worse. Mack Jones should be growing as a second year quarterback. The offense and Mack Jones have regressed. Why?

Because Josh McDaniels can coach. The Raiders are a great example. This dude can flat coach. I know everybody won't that in fire. We can coach offense, right? We don't know about as a head coach. He did struggle in Denver. But I would say this. Three weeks in a row, he went back-to-back walk-off games. He's winning a lot of close games he was losing

earlier as he was building this mess. As regard to the Patriots, Colin, have you looked at the schedule by any chance? No. So they still have a trip to they play Cincinnati, they play Miami, and they play Buffalo. Those are three of the best teams in the AFC. New England is not going to the playoffs. They will regress out.

They have Arizona. this week. If they lose to Cliff Kingsbury, what's the Jets schedule looks like? The line is Patriots favor by one on the road. It's Monday night football. How about the Jets schedule coming on? Jets are going to be fine. Jets are going to be fine. Don't worry about that. But I do like that you're bringing them up without me

injecting them into the conversation. All right, next up, the New York Jets, Colin. It's like you're looking at the reads here. Obviously, they bench Zach Wilson two weeks ago. Mike White is the starter. Well, Robert Sala announced that Zach Wilson will once again be inactive. Not even the backup.

Philaco is now the backup in New York, but Sala said the goal is to get Zach Wilson back on the field at some point this season. Zach's been doing everything right. He's been putting in the extra meeting time. He's been putting in the extra work after practice, really working on trying to retie all those fundamentals together and just tying it all together and getting completions against our defense. Just get completions and regain all the confidence that we know he's capable of and all the

different things that he's capable of as a quarterback. But the intent is to still get him back on the football field. By the way, look at this shot when our camera takes the shot of you and I sitting together at Mike White and Zach Wilson next to each other. He looks like his little brother. I'm sorry, but most of the great quarterbacks in league history are big men. Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Big Ben, Josh Allen. Look at those two.

You can keep selling me on your truck. trying to get him ready, Mike White is a better quarterback right now this morning than Zach Wilson is, and it's not terribly close. And the other thing is the Jets players love Mike White. I don't know if you saw they all embraced like his t-shirt, his style. They love him. They should. It almost feels like an excessive dig at Zach Wilson.

Like they're rallying behind White big time. Garrett Wilson's quotes really after the game were like, hey, Mike White had us there on the doorstep. He brought us back in the game. It feels like it's over for Zach. Wilson. I mean, now listen, I did check the weather. Mike White in Buffalo this week. There is no snow, no wind, no rain, nothing. So he's going to have a chance. Temperatures in like the 30s. I'll say this.

Jets are one of the best bets on the board this week. The money is coming in on the jets. They're now eight and a half point dogs. It was, I think, 10 and then nine, nine and a half. So the professionals think the jets have a chance. They already did beat Buffalo once this year with Zach Wilson. All right. Finally, Heisman Trophy, barely talked about this. Remember when the Heisman Trophy was a huge deal? It's just not really anymore. But they announced the four finalists Stetson Bennett, TCU's Max Duggan, C.J. Stroud, Caleb Williams. I think everybody knows Caleb Williams is going to win right. Yeah, I mean, the reason this isn't as big as it used to be is because the media ruined it because they voted regionally.

It was so embarrassing. Like the regions just vote for their guy. There is no question who. Caleb Williams is absolutely the Heisman. It's not even arguable. Stetson Bennett. This is an offense that struggled multiple times against Missouri and Kentucky and Georgia Tech. Their entire identity is defense.

I think Max Duggan's a good number, too. C.J. Stroud had a lot of bad halves. He's got great things to work with, took over great program momentum. Caleb Williams literally did nothing but overcome a bad defense, the transfer portal, a bad culture that had to be rebuilt. The Pac-12 was the strongest it's been in years. That's not even close. And it's not a knock on the other guys,

but if you're going to give it to Stetson Bennett, give me a break. Georgia's loaded. They're a defensive team. They're a defensive culture. Did you see the stat that Stetson Bennett is nine months older than Lamar Jackson? I think he's like one of the oldest quarterbacks in division with him, Hennon Hooker.

The new thing in college football is you've got to be old to thrive. You know, you've had five years in college playing against 19-year-olds. Bennett's been good, Colin. I wouldn't underestimate him. I would not be surprised if he carves up. Ohio State in the playoff game. We saw the Michigan quarterback just laying the lumbered Ohio State. I got nothing against Stetson Bennett.

But when you think of Georgia, nobody thinks quarterback. You think defense. Well, Bennett was good in the national championship game. He wasn't great. Well, the Heismans for great. Caleb Williams in all but one game this year was great. I would agree. Caleb Williams is the Heisman.

But I'd say, don't sleep on Stetson Bennett. What if he wins back-to-back national championships, Colin? Well, Tim Tebow was a great college quarterback. Indeed. He's a legendary quarterback of the last 25 years. And Stetson Bennett will be a rock star in the South. It really, to be honest with you, this program is about Kirby Smart and his recruiting prowess. And he has replaced Nick Saban because he's stolen a lot of the recruits that Saban got for years. So let me ask you, a guy that can hold a clipboard should win the Heisman. That's literally what it's been reduced to. a guy that can hold a clipboard. I'm with you on Caleb Williams. I know you are very defensive of USC. Goodness gracious.

I'm with you. I voted for Caleb Williams. I would vote Max number two. He had to win a lot of shootouts. So he, again, he's not surrounded by five-star great players. He, Max Duncan, had to win a lot of crazy shootouts with, I mean, like, when they go up against a Texas or in Oklahoma, they have the second best group of players. Those schools have NFL guys.

So I have no problem. If Max won it and Caleb was second, I could. least sleep that night. How about Blink Corum not getting the invite? A little disrespectful. I mean, Blake Corum was unbelievable. The sport has become a quarterback sport over a running back sport. That's the biggest problem. It's like, who's the high spin? All right. Give me the best quarterbacks on the best teams. The Hurd-Lie News. By the way, there is a perfect time to leave a job. Pete Carroll left USC sanctions looming at the perfect time. I think Sean Payton left the Saints at the perfect time. They're in cap hell. They don't have a quarterback. I don't think next year they have a first round pick. It was time to leave. But I will say this. I watched De Tampa Saints game last night. I don't know, Dennis Allen, but he's had a couple of runs at being a head coach. I think he's a coordinator. His clock management was brutal last night. There was that, you know, about six minutes left in the game, Mark Ingram runs out of bounds. You know, you know, you know, Now you lead, obviously 16 to 3.

You know Tom Brady's on the other side. Mark Ingram runs out before the first down. What are you doing? And then the second thing is, then the next play, they pass. You're trying to eat clock. You don't want to give Brady time. So they throw here to a guy that had not been targeted all game long. Bad play.

And then they punt it after that. Well, if you were going to be aggressive and try to pass for a first down, okay, then you've got to go for it on. fourth. What are you? I mean, passing is really aggressive there. That's a really aggressive move when you're trying to eat the clock because Tom's going to need two touchdowns to win. So it's an aggressive move to pass there. You would run for the first down and if you don't make it, you punt. But once you pass for it, okay, you're in go for it mode. You want to seal the game. Then you have to go for it and forth. That's like bad clock management. And, you know,

that's and defensive coach. They can't get the quarterback right. They look uneven offensively. Dennis Allen after the game on letting it get away. It sucks. It stings. It hurts. You know, we had a couple opportunities to make some plays.

We didn't make them. When you play Tom Brady, like, when you have a chance to put them away, you have to be able to put them away. I just thought that was so odd. First of all, the running back running out before. the first down. Weird, but some of that is on the player. But then on third down, you run the ball. And you could say, you may have made your mind up. Sean Payton's there. We're going to run it in third, run it and forth to try to get a yard and seal the game. Because you get a first down there, new set of downs, it's over. Tommy's not coming back. But to throw it, oh, okay, that's risky.

I'm going to go to a guy I've thrown to six or seven times. You throw to a guy, that you haven't thrown, you haven't targeted all night? Well, what? And then, because now you're telling me, you're going for it. And then you punt. These defensive coaches have no offensive sensibility. Even Belichick, now, with Josh McDaniels out, the offense is rigid and plummeting and not creative.

Like, it's, I'm watching, I've been on this now for two years. You've got to think long and hard. The Chargers could have had Brian Dable. They chose a defensive coach. Now their offense is unmanaged. And the defense isn't any good. I don't know. I'm not saying all the offensive guys work.

Nathaniel Hackett's a disaster in Denver. But if you give me a choice and I can go either way and I'm sitting there with Brian Dayball or Brandon Staley with almost no years in the NFL, I'm going with the offensive guy. Because I'm watching New Orleans right now. They don't do offense well at all. All right. A lot of things.

So we will wait. It's 4 p.m. Eastern today. is that waiver wire, if you want to claim Baker Mayfield, I wouldn't do it if I was the Niners, but Mike Silver's out there saying a very respected reporter who covers the Niners saying he thinks there's a strong possibility they'd go for it. Dallas appears to be better today. than they were maybe a month ago. Philadelphia appears to be legit. You know, there's some big brands that aren't very good. The Rams obviously have been a disaster. Denver's been a mass. Green Bay is not as good as we thought. But there's some good football teams out there.

Mark Schlarith, Fox Sports, NFL analyst, three Super Bowl champion rings. By the way, you did the Packers this week. I said this yesterday on the show. It's not been a great season. But there's one really shining moment here. It looks like Christian Watson is a number one. He looks legit to me, Mark. What was your takeaway on him?

Yeah, I think he is, Colin. And, you know, they rave about his intelligence. He can play all three positions. He can play the X. He can play the Z. He can play the F. Super smart kid. And, you know, he got confidence that over the shoulder catch against Dallas Cowboys.

Remember, he dropped two previously. Yeah. To that play in Dallas. catches that one over the shoulder, very much like the first play of the season against Minnesota. He dropped it and kind of went into a funk. Well, that was the catch that kind of has cat-a-bolled him to this direction, where he's just been phenomenal. I think Aaron is growing in trust with him. He's growing in confidence on a week-to-week basis.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I think there's still some nuanced stuff that he's got to learn, obviously, with all young players, but he's a dynamic athlete, and he is growing. He's got some swagger to him. him right now. He's really playing well. Yeah, Packers outscored the Bears, 18-0 fourth quarter. So very good news for them. They have found a star wide receiver, and that is a good thing. So we've gone back and forth. Brock Purdy, P-U-R-D-Y.

It's how a Southern gentleman would say, if you ask them, oh, is she beautiful? He'd say she's pretty. That's what it sounds like. Brock Pardy. We like him. Here's what I like about him. He started for four years in college, like a Kenny Pickett. So he's a grown-up. He's taking a lot of snares. he's been in a lot of big college games, I would stick with him because I believe, you know his dad. Kyle Shanahan's DNA is, don't get squirrely on me, be disciplined, stay in the pocket, distribute the football to the play I've diagramed, don't get too cute. I think that's what the kid does. I think Baker Mayfield does the opposite of that, where he can be squirrely and undisciplined.

Would you roll with pretty? Absolutely. I think the way the 49ers are built, number one, they have an exceptional defense. Their defensive front seven is as good as it gets in this league. So they're going to make plays, they're going to eliminate scores. That's what they do. And then, you know, offensively, it's really about run the football, set up our play action, passing game, create big plays through catch and run, you know, broken tackles, yards after

catch, all that stuff. I think a couple of things that really impressed me with Purdy is that, one, I thought his foot energy was great. I thought the timing of him in the pocket, getting the ball out on time accurately was great. He read protections, he defeated the blitz, he threw it to the right guy. I think he also manipulated people in the secondary with his eyes. I mean, this is a kid that

looks like a professional football player. Yeah, that's right. And that's all you can ask. I mean, in San Francisco, I think the thought process with the way they structure their offense and the way they structure their football team, team is we're not asking you to win football games at the quarterback position. We're just asking you not to lose football games. Right. At the court,

the team is going to win the football game. Remember, Jimmy Garapolo won an NFC playoff game throwing it eight times. So that's how they're constructed. That's how they're built. And I think Brock Purdy is the correct answer there. Now, I'd still take a flyer on Baker.

I know he's got great football acumen, not to start for me, but just as an insurance policy. and then groom him and teach him the offense and let him come along. But I just think you don't deviate off of Brock Purdy. He's your third quarterback that you've played so far this season. So he's your third stringer, but I still think he gives you a chance to finish out the season, be in a playoff contention, and then we'll see what happens when the playoffs come around.

I said early to start the show today, Brady isn't tired of football. He's tired of Tampa that I never thought it was a perfect fit. I covered it for a couple years. Ebor City. It's a fun. It's a port town. There's a lot of action. It's a party town.

He's Mr. Disciplined. It's always been a squirly franchise. A lot of coaches, a lot of movement, a lot of talent. And they've been occasionally great, but mostly underachieved. And it's not your classic NFL franchise with a discipline this and a discipline. And that's who Tom is. So it was, they were attractive to Tom. they had weapons. He'd have power. He'd have a say. He'd have control. But I think eventually,

they were never perfect for each other. And I watched his body language the last couple of weeks, and I watched him last night. Mark, he's over it. Like he's just, he's, he's angrier. And maybe some of it's the family situation. But I don't think he's done playing. I just think he's done with Tampa. That's what my eyes told me last night. What do you see? Yeah, I mean, you can't, obviously you can't play five minutes. of football every weekend. And, you know, even though they're coming away with wins, that's not going to, that's not going to work.

I was mentioned today on my radio show calling it was like watching Tebow in Denver, 55 minutes of absolute drek and then five minutes of brilliance, right? Like, you can't, you can't, you know, you can't, you can't pat yourself on the back for putting out of fire that you started, right? I mean, it's like, it's a mess. I will say this, you know, there's no way you could have predicted that Ryan Jensen would get hurt, that Alley Marpet would retire inside, that Alex

Kappa would go to Cincinnati. Like Tom Brady is a guy that he can deal with outside pressure because he's so good at manipulating the pocket, so good at climbing it, moving around and delivering the football on time. With people in his lap, that's not fun for him. That's not the way he plays football. So, I am

with you. I see him and I know that this year's been, obviously it's been tough and I feel for him divorce is difficult and family situations are very hard and he's human and I know that has to weigh heavy on your mind. But I've always said this about Tom. He loves this game. He loves the grind of this game. He loves the professionalism. But there's only one place that Tom Brady can be a dude. And that's in the locker room. The rest of the time,

when ever he leaves that facility, man, he is Tom Brady a celebrity. The one place he can be a guy is in the locker room. And he loves to compete. He loves that aspect of football. The guys gravitate to him. I'm with you. I don't think he retires. I don't think he necessarily plays in Tampa next year, but I don't think he's walking away from football yet.
