Oh, do we have a show today? It is Friday. What a night of sports.
Starting point is 00:02:36 God bless America and what it grants us. Dodgers, Phillies, all-time finish, Eagles, Giants. I was saying to myself last night, I'm watching it thinking, well, I'm going to leave with the Dodgers. I'm watching that game. You know, the Giants, Eagles will come back and win, and then I'm like, oh, oh, we got a story in New York. Oh, my. Oh, my. J-Mack, blazing five in one hour off a winning week.
Starting point is 00:03:02 We both had good week. Not a good last night, but good week last week. I told you. I told you, beware last night. These division games are crazy. I want to start with this. Last night was not about the Eagles. Sequin average five yards of carry, season high in yards,
Starting point is 00:03:19 A.J. Brown got touches. It was not about the Eagles. That's not what last night. Well, I'm not going to open the show criticizing the Eagles. Last night was about the New York Giants. They have found their franchise quarterback. It's going to be bumpy. You're going to have weeks like last.
Starting point is 00:03:33 week and you're going to have last night. If they can keep him healthy, confident, athletic, slippery, big boy NFL throws, that is an NFL franchise quarterback. Feet arm confidence. Once you get that right, giant fans, such like when you found Eli gets much easier to build the roster. I mean, the Giants last night are missing their number one receiver and the number two receiver, and they scored 34 points.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I know you all loved OBJ and you love Malik neighbors. Come on, bra. that's icing. The cake is Cam Scadaboo and Jackson Dart because of the way they play. They're tough, they're young, they're physical in the northeast because of the weather. Tyreek Hill is not winning your titles. Your left tackle is, your star back. January football is not decided by the fastest guys.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Jackson Dart's tough. Cam Scadaboo is tougher. If you can keep Andrew Thomas the left tackle healthy, you got your three guys. That's going to be your future. So the New York Giants have not had an offensive identity in a decade. In a decade. And they decided a couple weeks ago, let's start the rookies. Let's let Jackson and Cam Scataboo.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It's their offense. Since then, the Giants lead the NFL in first downs. Believe it or not. So it's not just the win last night. It's not just the production. It's how they're doing it. It is a northeast physical football team. Go to the Patriots Dynasty.
Starting point is 00:05:10 They never won when they were at their flashiest with Randy Moss. Those were the years they didn't win. They won early when they were tough physically, and they were winning late when they had Edelman and Brady and Gronk and always great on third down. Giants were amazing on third down last night. A lot of those fast teams aren't amazing on third down. They're just fun to watch.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Again, I like Malik neighbors. Obj was fun. That is icing. The cake in Northeast football. When the Steelers were great, it was defense and Big Ben. The best Peyton Manning Colts team ever could run the ball and play defense. Aaron Rogers, titled with the Packers, they actually ran the ball and had his best defense as a Packer quarterback. That's Northeast football.
Starting point is 00:05:54 So they decided to start these guys. Week four, we're going to give the kids the offense. And it looks different. There's an identity. It's physical over flash. It is steakover sizzle. There's nothing wrong with a little sizzle. You can't build around it.
Starting point is 00:06:10 So last night's not about the Eagles falling apart. I can talk about that in 30 minutes. And once you get the quarterback, once you find the quarterback, you can then identify what you are. You can't do that without the quarterback right. Right? Kansas City finds Mahomes. We're going to be clever.
Starting point is 00:06:29 we're going to be situational. Because you have a situational, brilliant quarterback who's really creative with a great arm talent. So the Giants have just been swimming around, drafting guys, hitting on a lot of them on defense, but what are they?
Starting point is 00:06:45 Last night, I'm like, oh, yeah, you can build around that. That's an identity. If I told you an hour before the game, one of these teams is going to score 34 points, you would not have picked a new, York Giants. Giant fan wouldn't have picked after that Saints debacle.
Starting point is 00:07:04 And it's going to be uneven and it's going to be choppy and you're going to have bad weeks because they're kids. But Brian Dayball after saw what we all saw. You go through some tough times. Sometimes you can get stronger
Starting point is 00:07:19 from it or sometimes you can fold. I like our guys. These young players, I have a lot of confidence in these young players. These rookies. They got the right mindset. They're tough. Northeast football, championship football.
Starting point is 00:07:37 Find me the warm weather dynasty in the NFL. Dolphins have never had one. Carolina's never had one. Arizona's never had one. Rams a big good, not a dynasty. Find me one. Find me the warm weather NFL dynasty. Marino and Don Shula.
Starting point is 00:07:55 One Super Bowl. One. Peyton Manning, Indy, 1-1, and is great. You look at the history of the NFL, the Green Bayes, the Kansas City, Seattle's mini-dynasty, Baltimore's greatness, Petsburg, New England, the Giants when they beat Brady twice. What was it about? That defensive front. That's an identity. I watched the Giants last night.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Oh, you can, oh, okay, you can put your arms around that and build around what I watched last night. That one-handed catch years ago? That's just a moment. Okay. So last night, I mean, what was amazing about last night is you had seven or eight of the best hitters in baseball. And it was eventually the bottom of the Dodgers lineup that got it going. But it was palpable. And the Dodgers do this. They put so much pressure on your manager and your pitching staff. And last night, O'Ryan Kirkian is a young,
Starting point is 00:08:59 pitcher for the Phillies, super talented, here's the moment, the crowd on its feet and this really talented kid couldn't rise to the moment. No balls in a strike. Hawes, breaks his
Starting point is 00:09:17 bat, Kirkering, got to find it, throws to the plate, oh my goodness, he throws it away, and the Dodgers have won. Dodgers win. Kirkering right there, plenty of time to go to first. I mean, plenty of time to go to first even though he bobbled it and just kind of in the moment panic should have gone
Starting point is 00:09:40 to first base right bouncer boom first base you're out but that's what the dodgers do they get in your head i mean otani was over one for 17 in the series oh tony and they walked him to load the bases in the seventh o tony bets muncie freeman edmund teoska hernandez constant pressure dodgers didn't even hitting this series. They didn't really hit in the series. But they won. And it was the bottom of the lineup that did it. You know, it's Kike. It's Muncie. It's Edmund. It wasn't even the top of the lineup. It's constant pressure. Then Rokees Azaki came on and the Dodgers bullpen has been a problem all year. So they've moved him to the bullpen to be the closer. Three innings last night, untouchable. So the Dodgers are now in the NLCS and you got Freddie Freeman,
Starting point is 00:10:32 and Otani hitting a buck 80. 12 strikeouts. That's what the Dodgers are. We talked about this with the Yankees. Yankees are home run reliant. The Dodgers are reliant on no single player. Otani, the last two years, he has struggled in the postseason.
Starting point is 00:10:51 I mean, last year it was Freddie Freeman in the World Series. I mean, earlier this year, Mookie Betts got sick, couldn't hit in September. He's now on fire. It was the bottom of the Dodgers lineup last night. So when you play the Dodgers, and this is really true about all sports, they put, it's almost like KD, Steff Clan Draymond. Remember for about three years like, pick your poison, who's hot tonight?
Starting point is 00:11:16 There were games Draymond took over. There were games Clay Thompson hit six of eight threes. Who do you guard? Who is it tonight? That's what it is with the Dodgers. It was their young pitchers. throwing 101, a nasty splitter. It was the bottom of their lineup, and it was the crowd.
Starting point is 00:11:38 It was the crowd. It wasn't O'Tonnie. It wasn't Freeman. It was the crowd and the pressure, and it's never ending, and they keep putting it on you. Here was Dave Roberts on the play that sent the Dodgers to the NLCS. It's brutal. Obviously, they played great defense tonight, and you know it's one of those things that it's a it's a it's a pfp a pitcher's fielding practice and he's done it a thousand times and you know just right there he was so focused i'm sure on just getting the hitter and you know just sort of forgot you know the outs and the situation yeah you're not doing that against most teams in major league baseball but in that spot against that team and they're in
Starting point is 00:12:21 your head you lose yourself the Phillies did and in the process lost their series by the way Um, you know, O'Tonnie and Freddie Freeman aren't the only one struggling. Trade Turner struggled. Bryce Harper struggled. Kyle Schwabber, a couple of bombs. He struggled. So the Philly, when you get into the postseason, I mean, think about all the great hitters. Otani and Freeman, trade Turner, Schwerber, Bryce Harper, nobody's hit.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Nobody's hitting in the series. So it comes down to moments. It comes down to base running. We talked about this with the Yankees. They are so behold into the home run. it's so much of its pitching, so much of it's circumstantial, so much of its timing, so much is the bottom of the lineup and base running. The Dodgers could not depend on the big bats in this series and still found another way, because this is what they do. I've said this before.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I think the Dodgers are the best run sports organization in North America. Drafting, developing, free agency, they just don't miss very often. Jay Matt, great show today. Blazing Five, top of the hour. Camp Scataboo's doing flips in the end zone. He is fun, man. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Basically, Jackson Darts turning into Jeremy
Starting point is 00:13:38 Lynn in New York. He's a brush fire that everybody's excited about. If you think he's your franchise quarterback, you've got another thing coming. All right. He's a nice story, Colin. Let's be real. Come on. I think he's a little better than that. Ooh, okay. I love Jeremy Lynn during his time. He was awesome.
Starting point is 00:13:54 But, I mean, DART is way too reckless on those scrabble. He's going to get murdered out there. He's got to, yeah, I mean, that's part of it. I think it's, I mean, remember Baker Mayfield in his second or third year in Cleveland, he threw an interception, he tried to square up a safety and it banged up his shoulder. Young players, they're raw. I said this before, though.
Starting point is 00:14:13 Before the season started, I said, Jackson Dart was in college with Lane Kiffin for three years. Lane Kiffin's coach in the pro's. Lane's an elite offensive coach. If you're with Lane Kiffin for three years, in the SEC, against those NFL level defenses, NFL players everywhere. You don't need to sit for a year. This is not like BYU football, you're a year starter. No, no, this is Jackson Dart started in the SEC with Lane Kiffin for three years.
Starting point is 00:14:40 The Russell Wilson thing was nice. I think you saw Brian Daibble rushing to the tent. Oh, my God. He wanted Jackson Dart on the field, and we said this, start Jackson Dart. When you play in the Big Ten, or you play in the SEC, and you're playing three years with a really smart, offensive coach. You don't need to sit. This is not somebody from, you know, a Mountain West Conference, a one year with a defensive head coach. Jackson Darts ready to play. And the great
Starting point is 00:15:06 thing about that is you're going to find out. By the way, last weekend, the Giants had five straight possessions with a turnover so it can get really bad. There were fumbles, some of them. And then last night, he was magic. So it's not, like Bo Nicks. Last week in the first half awful, second half outstanding. So it's not going to be linear. It's going to be all over the map. But what you look for in these moments with Bo Nixon, Denver, he'll make throws and you're like, okay, that is a franchise quarterback throw. I can remember watching Matt Ryan as a rookie, and he was facing the Bears and he threw a ball up the left sideline. One throw, and I was like, yeah, that's an, he threw it between the corner and the safety. And it was the first time I'd
Starting point is 00:15:47 watch Matt Ryan out of Boston College. And I said, oh, yeah, that's a starting quarterback. I remember Cam Newton. I think he played Arizona. Could be wrong. He went on the road in Arizona. I didn't know if he'd work. He was a great athlete. He made a throw against Arizona. It was down the left side line. And you're like, yep, that is a franchise quarterback. So you see that.
Starting point is 00:16:03 I absolutely see a franchise quarterback. But it's not going to be artistic. Andrew Thomas doesn't play. The O line gets bad. Like, so it's this idea, Brock Purdy, got to sit for a year and learn the sit. Jackson Darts like, bro, the O line's not much. Top two receivers are out. It's the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Yeah, that was impressive. That's an impression. Undeniable. That's Kate. That's not icing. OBJ's one-handed catch is icing. How about the, well, I can't wait for you to talk about the Eagles. I mean, outgained in every game this season?
Starting point is 00:16:33 Well, they had 350 yards. I didn't think that. They had zero points in the second half. It's a terrible defense. That's something else to talk about, and we will coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hard Radio app. He's by Carmen.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I'm Dan Byard. We have a fantasy football podcast. called I Want Your Flex. That's right, Dan. Every week we're going to scour the waiver wire to find the pickups to turbo boost your fantasy lineup. Sit, starts. Fantasy football players' rankings to get you ready to dominate the competition.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Harmon and me, Dan Byer, on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, and wherever you be your podcasts. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:17:26 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:17:40 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:18:00 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luke. and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:18:38 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:18:57 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court,
Starting point is 00:19:13 and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, were joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous.
Starting point is 00:19:35 That's right. The very funny Will Ferrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good? name for like a salad dressing. Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt. Maybe not.
Starting point is 00:19:59 I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why? If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk. Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30.
Starting point is 00:20:43 You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud. Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:21:04 During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas. Their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or where you get your podcast. Five days ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were 4 and 0.
Starting point is 00:21:34 They had beaten the Cowboys, the Chiefs, the Rams, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Five days ago, the Philadelphia Eagles were undefeated and on top of the world. As of last night, A.J. Brown can't remember if they just had a player's only meeting. What was behind that? I don't call the meeting. Oh, the meeting never read. I don't know what you're talking about. Those guys said it did happen.
Starting point is 00:22:05 No, you ain't talked to him. You weren't in the meeting? I don't recall. Or you just want it? I don't recall. Oh, boy, drip, drip, drip. The Philly Fawcett has officially burst. The Eagles offense in the second half this season,
Starting point is 00:22:22 we told you it was a problem. It's like last or 30th in every. Everything. Yards, yards of play, three and out. They lead the NFL. Three and outs. How? This is a coaching crisis. It's not a player crisis. The defense now also a mess. Last year it was number one in the NFL. Right now it's 20th. So what's happened? I mean, this is like what you saw happen with the Chargers free hardball. You're like, they got good players. Why are we awful at everything? That's what's happening here. And when and when the chiefs are in crisis, what do they do? Well, they turn to Andy Reid. When the Eagles are in crisis, uh, ring, ring, Howie Roseman, can you help us? He can't. The roster stacked. So after four ugly tush pushes, they got outscored 21-0. And again, it is, they are fractured, they are fragmented. You could, it's not that they're, I mean, they have talent last night. It was their best offensive game in turn of yards, turned some yards,
Starting point is 00:23:25 Sequin got almost five yards of carry. Goddard and A.J. Brown. Between the two of them had like, you know, like 15 touches. Devonte Smith got looks. But third down, they're atrocious. Third down is the decision-making down. Third down, the giants were amazing. Brian Dable, Jackson, Dart, Scataboo.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Third-down, giants were great. Philadelphia's got more talent. They were atrocious. So they had five second-half drives. You had three punts and two turnovers. It's not a town issue. It is a coaching issue. The New York Giants with a rookie quarterback beat you soundly missing their top two perimeter threats.
Starting point is 00:24:07 And Lane Johnson afterwards talked about, you know, maybe possibly we shouldn't be this predictable. You know, there's flashes don't score points. You know, it's about consistency. It's about, you know, what's the big play hits? Let's keep going until we finish. But like I said, we have spurs, but I think it's just enough. Last year, Nick Sariani, the coach of Philadelphia, when they got into crisis, shaved his head. I don't know what the next trick is, maybe a face tattoo.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Who knows? I have no idea. But this is not about the players. They've got, yes, I mean, why not? Let's try something new. But to me, this is a coordinator that maybe isn't quite. Ready to be a coordinator, it's not working. J-Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:25:02 No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Let's get started with the San Francisco 49ers, Colin. Listen, they're 3-0. Amazing. It's backup quarterback. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Jack Jones starting while Brock Purdy recovers now. I just checked the practice reports. Obviously, today's a big one, but yesterday, no Purdy at practice. No Joanne Jennings, no Pierce-all. It is insane. However, GM Johnson. John Lynch says there's no quarterback controversy in San Francisco. I do wholeheartedly believe that Brock is nothing but happy for our team.
Starting point is 00:25:36 He's working his tail off to try to get back. And I think we all feel blessed and fortunate that we found a guy to be our backup this year who can go in and play like a starter and earn us tough, hard-fought wins. And Max's doing a tremendous job. It's been fun. I think Kyle Shanahan is coach of the year. You know, when Eagle fans will be like, hey, we got some injuries.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Everybody's. The Niners said, hold my beer. The whole offense is beat up. It's Fred Warner, rookies, Robert Sala, putting Bondo on that car. They are, dude, that coaching staff is having an all-time season because they are, the other day I went down and looked at their injury report online, it's not that they're just missing like a slot corner.
Starting point is 00:26:22 They're missing stars. Well, with Alboza, They had no pressure against Stafford, and he had an awesome game. You know, Kyron Williams doesn't fumble that. Probably Rams win. So I have some concern about this game against the Bucks, but Chris Godwin just popped up. He may not play this weekend. Remember, he returned.
Starting point is 00:26:39 So that'd be no Godwin, no Evans. I don't know. I like the Niners you're getting a field goal. That's a stayaway game. I said last night. It's a great game. Well, it's a great game. I said last night is a stayaway game.
Starting point is 00:26:51 When the Chargers play the Giants, I said stay away game. Niners bucks, I wouldn't be surprised with any outcome. Those are the games I'm staying away from. I'll say, I know some radio guys, TV guys out there trying to make this a quarterback controversy. Maybe one of them's wearing a purple shirt today. I don't know. I don't think there's anything there.
Starting point is 00:27:10 I think they know Brock is their guy. Well, Brock is the guy. They're paying him. He's the guy. And Mack is solidly the backup. Mac Jones right now. Today, this moment is the best backup quarterback easily in the league. Yeah, but last year at this time, like Jake Browning was the best backup quarter.
Starting point is 00:27:23 And after a few games, I know Mac has the pedigree. I got it. All right, let's move on. Oh, boy, this Bill Belichick stuff, it's snowballing in North Carolina, Colin. So remember, a bunch of stories popped up this week about Belichick, maybe the end, one and done. Well, now there's a report that Belichick is trying to find the leak. He is hunting down people looking for the leak. Pat Welter, a reporter from Raleigh, who wrote a deep dive on the state of things.
Starting point is 00:27:51 So he's validating that the leak. is largely true, which they're dysfunctional and there's angst in the program. I found the leak, by the way. It's called the defense. I found it. I watched the games on television. I saw it. So it seems like it's more than just one leak. This is like, you know, a tsunami of people. How about
Starting point is 00:28:09 the connectivity with your players and the game plans and not worry about the leak? I wonder if people are worried about their jobs and their future, and that's why they're leaking stuff so they can get out ahead of this and get their next job. That's a good point, that's always why people leak stuff. If you have, it could be the White House, it could be your house.
Starting point is 00:28:28 If stuff's getting out, it's usually concerns about job security and just security, financial security. So when stuff gets splintered, people are leaked, you know, well-run businesses where people are happy, don't leak a lot. Yeah. Final story, Colin, is The Cubs last night. Interesting game. Remember, we talked yesterday about their first inning strengths. Well, it happened again. Ian Hap, three-run, first inning, Homer, got things started.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Chicago never looked back. Six-nothing win over the Brewers. Who are the Brewers? You were calling the Brewers the best team in baseball, like 48 hours. And now they're in trouble because I don't know who they're starting. Yeah, so Chicago has turned it around last two games, plus seven-run differential, obviously 2-0, batting averages up, ERA is down. Isn't it amazing what pressure does?
Starting point is 00:29:18 Well, you watch Philadelphia, and I hate to use the word fold or choke. But like Philadelphia last night, Bouncher to the mound, throw the ball to first. Little League play. You're watching Milwaukee shrink. Milwaukee swept the Dodgers this year. Led the National League in hits. They were a dominant team, and you're watching them shrink in real time. So, you know, who, man, it's a little tough.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Who would the Dodgers rather face for a better chance to get to the World Series? Probably the Cubs, right? Well, here's the thing. The Brewers are amazing. Since the Dodgers have taken their phenom, the young phenom, and put them in the bullpen, the Dodgers should be the overwhelming favor. I mean, the only question with the Dodgers, I mean, their stars aren't hitting, and they just beat a great Philadelphia team.
Starting point is 00:30:04 I think every offseason, I'm going to bet the Dodgers to win the World Series. They spend the most money, right, and they have the best players. And by the way, well-run organization, they had a major dilemma, and they solved it. They fixed it. They take their young starter, 23-year-old kid that throws a splitter that's unhittable. They move him to the end. the back end, the bullpen, and what do you know? They've solved their issue.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Now, they're going to need somebody else. You can't have them go three innings night after night. But when you watch the Dodgers last night, it's not that they won, it's how they won. It's like the Giants won last night. That's not it. It's how the Giants won. Physicality, quarterback, Scataboo, that's an identity. The Dodgers winning this series and none of their stars hit.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Yeah. Like that's, that is, and Philadelphia is really good. This Philly lineup had the National League hitting championship, champ, one of the best ERA starting staffs, Bryce Harper, the home run champ. I thought Philadelphia was going to win the series. I thought they were going to win games late because of the Dodgers bullpen.
Starting point is 00:31:01 So, your Brewers, Mariners... It's in jeopardy. Tigers, by the way, have the better pitcher going in their deciding game. I'm saying, the Brewers and the Mariners World Series call is in jeopardy. Everything just flipped in like the last 48 hours. Just chaos. Yeah. God, sports
Starting point is 00:31:17 is great. It's fun. I mean, we could be in the political business and be in reality. time and have grievance every day. No, that's. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lie News. God, it's just crazy
Starting point is 00:31:33 last night. What a night. I would pay good money to listen to Philadelphia Sports Talk Radio this morning. That's a barnyard musical. So there's a lot of talk. Cam Scataboo had three touchdowns, 19 carries, almost 100 yards.
Starting point is 00:31:50 And, you know, people are saying, I was looking this morning online. Hey, hey, hey, how did this guy fall to the fourth round? How was he the eighth running back taken? Well, ask yourself this. What is his comp? A back flipping five-nine running back that came from a conference that doesn't tackle? What was his comp?
Starting point is 00:32:09 I mean, out of high school, he had to go to Sacramento State. I mean, I watched him at Arizona State. I thought he was kind of a novelty. I thought he'd make the NFL. I didn't think he'd be this. I mean, Brock Purdy, seventh run. round. I watched him at Iowa State. Bucky Irving, a great running back for Tampa.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Fifth round. Pooka Nakuwa, fifth round. I watched Pooka Nakuwa at a high school in Utah. I watched them at Washington. I watched them at BYU. I never thought Puka Nakua was arguably the second or third best receiver in the league. So I don't know. An AFC's executive told Lance Zerline before the draft, quote, you hear guys say I'm built different. Usually it's all talk. This guy is built differently. He sees and plays the game like a linebacker.
Starting point is 00:32:52 So NFL general managers always ask their scouting departments, find me the comp. I used to talk to Rich McKay about this, who now is the president of the Falcons when he was a GM. And he said, I always ask my guy, give me three comps. Who is he in our sport? Because college football, there's a lot of guys like Tebow that aren't really NFL players, the great college players. What's his comp? His comp is a 1974 NFL fullback with speed. So he didn't have one.
Starting point is 00:33:20 It's jelly roll in music. Did you see him the first time and think, superstar? Not everybody has a comp. And the one thing I'll say about him, the kid is really athletic. He had a 39.5 inch vertical. That's an NBA vertical. A 39 and a half inch vertical. So at the combine, the kid is athletic.
Starting point is 00:33:43 But I watch a lot of college football. I watched him play, I don't know, six. 10 times, I didn't think it would be this. I mean, did Arizona State think he would be that dominant when they got him out of Sacramento State? He is 100% raw energy. And it just works for an organization that was looking for exactly that. And here is a Cam after the win. Me and him do a lot of things on the side together, talk a lot together,
Starting point is 00:34:15 about kind of getting this turned around, not doing it. in on our own, but getting everyone to buy in and continue to stay positive and work to be better. You know, the franchise has been a losing franchise the last couple years, but that's not who we are right now. We need to continue to build and build and build each and every day and have these guys with positive mindsets and, you know, get away from that losing mindset. Yeah, and, and, I mean, the truth is he is really a unique physical player. He's 5'9, back flipping can turn the corner
Starting point is 00:34:50 39 and a half inch vertical I watched him I thought you know if he'd have become Tebow which is wildly popular because the nickname and the style but you're like yeah
Starting point is 00:35:02 I just can't quite turn the corner in the NFL I would have been like yeah when they scored touchdowns last night the Eagles needed the tush push they needed Cam is that he was scoring on the when he was getting hit at the line if he's not a member of the Giants,
Starting point is 00:35:17 they're having to kick field goals. I mean, he is literally burying over 330-pound guys. So, and again, it's not just that he's good. It's his style that matters. The Northeast is about toughness. The weather gets, I mean, it's getting cold today in Chicago. It's getting cold out east. You can't do it with flashy wide receivers who get hurt all the time.
Starting point is 00:35:38 You got to play. I mean, this play right there. I mean, I mean, this kid, this is a Northeast football player. And so, like, people say, I can't believe he was the eighth quarter, or the eighth running back drafted. Sometimes you just don't know. George Kittle, Hall of Famer, fifth round.
Starting point is 00:35:57 I watched Kittle at Iowa. I never saw that. Don't you think sometimes the whole, who is the comp? Don't you think that can hurt players? Then you're forced to put him in a box. This is what he is or what he looks like or what he can be. And I just, I remember watching Scatibu in the playoff. He was like one of the best players on the first players on the box.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Oh, he rolled over Texas. Yeah, they couldn't stop him. And at that point, I don't need a comp. Cam Scada boo's my guy. That looks like a second round pick to me at worst. I thought he was awesome. Yeah. No, I'm not disagreeing with that.
Starting point is 00:36:25 But, I mean, there's a lot of smart GMs. And I think it's not only that he's working, but his value with the Giants, again, Arizona State football last year. If I'd have said, what is it? you've been like, I like the quarterback, but it's a running back driven team. Right now with the Giants, what do you say? I like the quarterback, but it's a running back driven team. He's one of those rare players.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Adrian Peterson had some of this. Derek Henry took him a while. First two years, Derek Henry was like a borderline bust in the NFL. He was a backup. I think like DeMarco Murray. It takes some guy's time. Scataboo's not one of those guys. Scataboo walks in the door.
Starting point is 00:37:07 His energy and his style and his toughness and his athletic ability like popped in camp. Everybody was like, whoa. And I'll give the Giants credit. You know, they wanted to give Russell Wilson some starts. This team didn't need a quarterback. They needed an identity. And it's like Scataboo is, he did it to Arizona State and he did it in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Like if he's on your team, he's going to drive the bus. I got to ask about DART because he's playing well. I didn't see this coming from him because I put him in a box. I said, oh, he's a Lane Kiffin quarterback. He's Matt Corral. Remember the Matt Corral? Put up huge numbers. Came to the NFL. Hasn't really done anything.
Starting point is 00:37:46 I didn't see this from Dart. I mean, Colin, if you put Darts highlight reel this season and Cam Ward, I mean, it's early. But Jackson Dart looks better so far. Would you agree? Well, I think the Giants have more good players. First of all, first of all, I have been on this. The guy little Jordan Humphrey off a practice squad. Which is the worst nickname ever because there's nothing little about him.
Starting point is 00:38:06 I know, he's six four, yeah. But I think one of the things I've said over and over about the giant. And I know they're not that interesting a team, but I've been saying for years. Left tackle, offensive coach, elite defensive line. They check a lot of boxes. They need to get the offensive line upgraded and they need another corner. But the Giants have had players. And they've actually, you know, it's like when you watch the Giants, they've had moments in the last couple of years.
Starting point is 00:38:34 They just can't get the quarterback right. And once you get the quarterback right, the game gets much easier for a GM. Everything kind of falls into place. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news?
Starting point is 00:38:51 We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name,
Starting point is 00:39:08 Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember I think it was on a call about what we should call it And we were thinking I'm originally calling it One of the early names of our band Before Jonas Brothers This is how you guys remember it going down Yes I have a very different memory of this
Starting point is 00:39:26 We were talking about a thing A bit for the podcast For people could call in and say hey Jonas And then I wrote down on my little notepad Hey Jonas and offered it up as a potential title For the podcast But thanks for remembering that guys listen to hey Jonas on the iHeart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcast
Starting point is 00:39:43 just listen we don't care where you hear it what's up fam it's isaiah thomas isaiah thomas and i'm cj toledano and our podcast point game is about defying the odds like lebron heading into the playoffs without lucca and austin reed and finding ways to win no matter what he's the smartest player to ever play the game his iqq is at a level that we've never seen before and he knows without lucca and austin reese i got to manipulate the game we get a play player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:40:19 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training? camp with that I said you figure it out real quick.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Oh yeah. Get your ass up and down the court and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous.
Starting point is 00:41:05 That's right. The very funny Will Farrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh D. for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault.
Starting point is 00:41:26 And it's a play on word, salt? Maybe not. I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why?
Starting point is 00:41:45 If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk. Listen to crime lists on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Agency. The ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30, you shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health.
Starting point is 00:42:22 These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud. Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas, their practices.
Starting point is 00:42:45 And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Tonight on Fox, Tarek Scouble takes the mound to lead Riley Green and the Tigers against Cal Raleigh and the Mariners in a winner-take-all. Game 5 of the ALDS. Coverage begins at 7 p.m. Eastern, 4 p.m. Pacific on Fox. Okay, for the record, very interesting college football weekend, out west. We've talked a lot of East Coast this morning. Out west, Michigan at USC, Indiana, at Oregon.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Really interesting games. We're going to tell you a lot about college football, the playoff going forward. Very interesting. I like USC close. and Oregon will win. Indiana's got a really good quarterback, a clever offense. They look deeper and better than last year. I test.
Starting point is 00:43:48 So I think the game is pretty close. So we all know that Shohei Otani is not only our Babe Ruth. He's much better than Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth wasn't pitching and hitting simultaneously at this level. Babe Ruth didn't run like this. but as great as O'Tonnie has been in the regular season as a Dodger, he has struggled in the playoffs last year and this year. He's hitting 205.
Starting point is 00:44:14 This year he's four for 27 with a ton of strikeouts. And so my take is it's the Peyton Manning syndrome. He's too great not to eventually be great, but he's putting a lot of pressure on himself. Rory McElroy didn't win the Masters, until his 17th try, went a decade without winning a major. Rory McElroy's too good not to eventually break through. It is really, really hard to hit in the postseason.
Starting point is 00:44:40 I mean, Trey Turner, former Dodger, by the way, won the National League batting crown. Trey Turner struggled in this series. Clayton Kershaw, best curveball of this generation, is our Sandy Kofax. He's scuffed it in the postseason, and his prime scuffed it a little bit. So I just think what happens is, and, you know, a lot of the old athletes, Didn't grow up with TikTok and Instagram and this, you know, back in the 70s, you didn't have relentless talk radio. It was newspapers. You know, I mean, our media now is loud and it's multi-platform.
Starting point is 00:45:17 And these players make a lot of money. And fans tend to be more outspoken and verbal and caustic and obnoxious. There's just a lot to deal with. I think Otani is putting too much pressure on himself. Here was Dave Roberts talking about what he's going through. His decision making hasn't been good. You know, you can see, you know, it's balls in off. And he's really not giving himself a chance to, you know, hit a mistake.
Starting point is 00:45:51 I just think that he's in between a little bit, but the swing decisions are just not where they need to be right now. Needless to say, the Dodgers got through it despite that, because they have the ability to win several. ways. So through the years, this is where J. Mack and I have often disagreed. There are certain people in the NFL, I will defend even when they're not winning. Kevin Stefansky has lost a lot of games, but I always defend him. Zach Taylor and Cincinnati, there's a lot of L's. I always defend him. Shane Steichen last year. This is bad. I said he knows what he's doing. So I tend to to be on the defend Brian Daibble side, even though Brian Daible hasn't won a lot of games. Last night, there was a moment where he's freaking out and going over to the tent.
Starting point is 00:46:45 He didn't want Russell Wilson out there. He wanted to make sure his guy could play. And I totally get it because he's 20 and 36 as a head coach. And it's very likely he will not get another head coaching job. He may. I would certainly interviewed him. I thought the Chargers should have hired him, not Brandon Staley. But you could see Brian Daibol, his concern, he wanted him out there.
Starting point is 00:47:08 And my takeaway is the reason I side with offensive coaches, because we're in an offensive league. And if the Giants had a defensive coach that was 20 and 36 with Jackson Dart, I'd be done. But bad quarterback play can make really smart offensive coaches look bewildered and lost. And so I am going to defend Brian Daibald, like I've defended. Kevin Stefansky and last year, Shane Steichen and Zach Taylor, is that it's an offensive league. I mean, if you go back to Shane Steichen last year, people around Indianapolis, some national people, some local people,
Starting point is 00:47:48 very critical of the culture, it's a bad team. They got a good roster. You got a good coach. Anthony Richardson was Tebow accurate. You can't win in this league. So I think Day Bowl is really good. I don't know if he's Kevin Stefansky good, but I think he's good. I'm going to defend him.
Starting point is 00:48:08 And here was Brian Daible about going to the doctor for an update. If you've ever been on an NFL sideline, there's a lot of emotions. And I certainly am an emotional guy. I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted his ass out there if he was okay, but I wanted the process. Like, we were getting ready to go for it on potential four down. I would have burned a time out if he could have came out there. So I was asking how long is it going to be going to be going to be.
Starting point is 00:48:32 to take. And you want your guy out there? Not at risk of anything else, but he came out. I think he's going to be good. I'm like, is he going to be good or not? I'm going to call a time out on fourth down and go for this. Yeah, again, I'm going to defend the coach on this. One of the things the media does that drives me crazy, we're all on our couch. And yet in the middle of a game, we're eating these coaches alive because, you know, they don't, you know, the clock management is it's really easy to save from your couch. These games are fluid and they're fans. and they're live. There's a lot of pressure. And so I've seen Peyton Manning blow up at Jeff Saturday
Starting point is 00:49:08 and Tom Brady scream at Josh McDaniels. I always defend them. I will always defend the pro athletes. I went to a Miami Heat game years ago. And it was LeBron and Wade and Bosch. I was down in Miami. Betterly, totally committed to the show. But I was down in Miami.
Starting point is 00:49:25 And Ann and I were down there watching the game. I wanted to watch Miami. And LeBron James in a timeout is just barking at Mario Chon. And he's just barking at his team. And it's like, well, don't we all want our athletes to care? And don't we want the best players to have leadership qualities? Sometimes volume works. So I'm going to defend these coaches and these quarterbacks and these players to get highly emotional.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Like, I, you know, I don't want to hold your hand when Des Bryant was in Dallas. And it was like every time they didn't look at it, I'm not babysitting you. Okay, you got to be a grownup. That's different. but dable on the sidelines hey what are we doing here without saying it he said it i don't want the
Starting point is 00:50:09 i don't want the other quarterback i want jackson dart out there we got a rhythm let's go jobs are on the line they're seven figure jobs i'm going to support emotion as long as it's not terribly disruptive emotion you and i talked about it the other day with the arizona coach i wouldn't define him a hundred grand i didn't love it
Starting point is 00:50:28 but i understand like this these games are live And there's cameras everywhere, and we see stuff now we didn't use to see. Well, because the cameras are everywhere, the NFL is now, according to some NFL reporters, they're looking into the concussion protocol situation last night. Because Dave Old made a scene on the sideline. You know, he's MFing the team doctor, get my guy back out there. Like, he was very fired up. But he needs, like you said, he's coached for his job.
Starting point is 00:50:52 I don't think he broke any rules. I think Dart was fine. His head didn't bang off the turf or anything. He took some shots, though, last night. No, no, no. he has got to learn to slide. The baseball guys, Kyler Murray's a great slider.
Starting point is 00:51:06 Russell Wilson was a great slider. A great slider. The non-baseball guys, they think they're fullbacks. He's diving with his head forward on the side. I know, it's terrible. Bro, come on. Lays in five of a winning week next.
