This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey,
or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast,
The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.

Here we go. It is a Wednesday.
Lots of stuff to talk about live in Los Angeles.
It's the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day.
One hour from that.
Joel Clatton, I have a lot to talk about.
Are they unraveling at USC?
Lincoln Riley, point some fingers.
at Caleb Williams.
Oh, yeah.
Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State.
J. Mack, a lot of stuff going on.
I've long said October and November are the best sports months.
You didn't even mention the NBA tips off in less than a week.
It's going to be like you can't take nights off anymore, coward.
Every night.
One of us doesn't.
So Micah Parsons, I'll just read you the quote, gets very upset.
He said, don't throw shade.
on us without the same energy toward the Eagles and the 49ers.
So what Micah is saying is if you're going to give them credit after wins or criticize
us, well, you have to criticize the Niners and the Eagles when they lose.
Of course, the difference, Micah, is the Eagles and Niners get to Super Bowls and
win big games.
Nobody's giving them a pass.
Dallas has been overwhelmingly all talk for 25 years.
they beat the two and three chargers, a team that has not won their division, despite having Philip Rivers and Justin Herbert, really good quarterbacks in 14 years.
So Jerry Jones said something yesterday.
And we said this yesterday, and Jerry doubled up on this.
So here's Jerry Jones talking realistically about what he watched in that win,
over the Chargers.
I felt it was as disjointed or sloppy a game as maybe that's a strong word.
For both sides, I really thought the game was relatively speaking statistically.
It was even.
There was a penalty evened out.
Obviously, the stats were really even on the game.
It was a hard-fought game.
They're a good team.
By the way, Jerry acknowledging it wasn't a particularly...
well coached game.
So the owner now has separated from the fans.
That's good.
Last week we were concerned that Jerry was becoming a fan, not an owner.
I don't care if he medals.
He did play football.
He's been in de facto GM.
Don't become a fan as an owner.
But back to Micah and comparing them to the Philadelphia Eagles in San Francisco.
Yes, they lost.
But we hold them in a different stratosphere.
I went back this morning and I looked 12 years.
That's about, you know, Harbaugh, 49ers, 12 years.
In that time, San Francisco and Philadelphia, both have four division titles,
have a combined 17 playoff wins and four Super Bowl appearances.
Just think of those numbers.
Eight division titles, 17 playoff wins, four Super Bowl appearances.
In that same stretch, the Dallas Cowboys have four.
Three wild card playoff wins.
So when Dallas beats the Chargers and they see it as status or validation, I do not.
Again, the Chargers have not won a division title in 14 years.
Now, Micah Parsons, he's got strong opinions.
I like him.
He's got a podcast.
I should go buy that thing.
I got a little company.
Anyway, Micah's talking about Dak Prescott.
Now, I like my players supporting my players.
and here's Micah talking about Dak.
I just don't condone the bashing of
Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys
and have the same energy for the Eagles
because there's a whole bunch of bashing when it's
Dak Prescott, but not to say when it's the Eagles.
And I'm just calling out the BS because
I'm tired of people trash my quarterback.
I'm tired of people trash my team.
And that's why I had nothing to say to the media this week.
Supporting Dak, I get,
probably the best he's played in two years.
But we do not, nor should we, in the media,
ever, ever consider the Niners, the Eagles, and the Cowboys as the same businesses.
Two are empirical and the class of the NFC in 12 years.
Dallas has been all talk in that same period.
Well, a team that's not doing a lot of talking, mostly just doing a lot of hitting Philadelphia.
We're seeing something historic here.
This is all-time stuff.
you haven't seen baseball playoff pitching this dominant in the playoffs since the 1983 Orioles.
The Phillies are now the best hitting playoff team since the 2000 Red Sox.
And their OPS baseball people love that is the best since the 1932 Yankees.
You are watching potentially the best playoff run ever.
I felt sorry for Atlanta.
it's even sadder for Arizona.
Here's how the game started at the bank last night.
Turner hits a dry, deep left center field, and the Philly straight first again.
Trey Turner, a solo shot.
The last two years in the National League playoffs, the Phillies are 17 and 3 and virtually unbeatable at home.
Arizona's done.
They're two aces lost.
Now they go to a rookie in game three, and they're going to be.
to have to use the bullpen. This puppy's over. Baseball writers love analytics. Oh, they love math.
Fans don't. This team doesn't feel nuanced. They're loud, they're brash, they're powerful,
their football feeling. It's a little UFC, a little football with our baseball, a sport that can
be slow and plotting and mathy. And I think it really works on television. People are so worried because
the wild card teams won. This feels like the 2000 Yankees.
without the ring yet in that, remember that late 90, early 2000 stuff?
Big names, big power, power pitching, overwhelming.
It's the highest run differential in an eight-game playoff span ever.
So you are looking at complete historical dominance.
They could be a good team in analytics.
I don't really know.
But when I watch them, they jump off the TV.
They're loud, they're brash.
And that home field advantage feels very much like the ghosts of Yankee Stadium.
teams like Arizona and Atlanta are absolutely unraveling,
and I think it's great for the sport.
All right, Jay Mack, we have Joel Clatt in one hour.
There is a, you know, you go out on the town sometimes in Los Angeles.
Maybe you do.
Well, I wouldn't say it's going on in the town,
but I went out last night and you start running into people,
and you hear a lot of things.
People like talking, people like commiserating.
What are we talking about, A-listers here, C-listers, reality show people?
I don't get into Listers.
There's just, I'm finding a lot of.
of stuff about the Patriots nonsense, about some of the stuff going on at USC right now,
there is a lot of unsettled football situations in this country, and I am here for it.
Just so happens. I was out at dinner with the wife last night. We're exiting a restaurant,
and I am a member of the L.A. Rams walks in. I mean, I noticed him, but I don't think anyone else did.
And there's some stuff happening with the Rams this week, huh? Did you notice that?
A little backfield situation, a little secondary issue.
Did you notice this?
This morning I looked at the NFL standings.
The AFC playoff teams, five of the seven we predicted.
We didn't predict Baltimore, Cleveland, but we said both would be really good.
So it's all the big dogs you'd expect.
In the NFC, it's five of the seven.
Tampa is a shock, and the Rams, I think, for both of us, is a little, little.
But if you notice this, only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So we are going, we're 33% of the schedule is done now.
We're going into week seven.
33% of the NFL season is done and there is exactly one surprise in the whole league.
Tampa.
Now, in fairness, to anybody who didn't predict Tampa, it's the worst division in football and
somebody had to win it.
So it's going to be a 9-8 division winner.
That's what it feels like.
I mean, it's the weakest division in football.
Even the AFC South has Jacksonville and a great quarterback and Brable, a great coach.
This division doesn't have great, really anything, right?
but it is the league is getting more predictable because it is so quarterback and head coach-centric.
Now, especially offensive coach and quarterback-centric because of all the rule changes,
I'm not talking betting week-to-week.
You know, odds, numbers, that's always tough.
55% still a great season.
But basically five of the seven, 10 of the 14 teams that we thought would be in are in.
and by the way,
the other ones are still potentially in it.
They would be locked in today.
The other four are in it.
Cincinnati now coming back.
So my point is,
we always look at the NFL as unpredictable.
It can be on a week-to-week basis.
But on a macro level,
this is the closest I have ever been
a third through this season
on virtually everything,
either being in the playoff picture
or right up against it.
Now that Cincinnati's bounce back,
Tampa is the only surprise in the league.
Well, two quick notes on that.
Cincinnati, I believe, has the hardest strength of schedule the rest of the way.
One website has them is the toughest schedule.
Baltimore's like third.
And you think Tampa stays up there much longer?
Interesting game this week against Atlanta.
Yeah.
Well, we'll see.
I say it in a way that you should know.
I bet one of those teams last night.
I can't bet Atlanta.
I've only got two rules.
One of them never bet the Falcons.
Okay.
I do not bet the Falcons.
Questions about USC, Joel Clatt, joining us as well.
Albert Breer,
Kaelin DeBoer, Washington Husky coach.
Good show today.
All right.
I got a parlay for you this weekend,
thanks to Draft King Sportsbook.
New users use the code heard when you download the app.
Now for my parlay pick of the week via Draft King Sportsbook.
I'll take Bills minus 9.
They play terribly against the New York Giants at New England.
Swallow the points.
Bills have a better roster, more to play for.
as Miami and the Jets now are charging fast.
Chargers at the Chiefs all take the Chargers plus five and a half.
Why? Chiefs are not a big favorite.
Still struggling offensively.
Connectability between Mahomes and that young receiving group.
And I'll take the Eagles minus two hosting the Dolphins.
When you punch back at Miami, they can fold.
Not a physical team.
I think they'll struggle to slow down the Eagles offense.
I like the bills minus nine, chargers plus five and a half, Eagles minus two.
You want to take the herd parlay.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because.
of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your

College football is so fueled by emotion that fans sometimes media go overboard on a singular
play or a singular moment or a singular loss.
Take a deep breath.
Everything's going to be okay at USC, although I did think it was interesting.
Their head coach, Lincoln Riley, when talking about Caleb Williams and the Notre Dame
law said, quote, separation for receivers really wasn't a problem.
Go back and look at the tape.
All three turnovers.
Those guys are wide open running around.
We just got to finish plays.
Lincoln Riley calling out Caleb Williams.
So listen, when Lincoln Riley came to USC, people on the outside have no idea.
What a mess the program was.
Four and eight and about 28 to 30 legitimate players of 85.
About 30 could play.
And there were about three really good NFL bodies.
For USC, it was a mess.
Since then, he's gone 17 and 4.
Saturday was a really ugly loss.
They haven't had those.
They used to have those all the time.
Caleb Williams stunk, first bad game as a collegian.
He'll still be the number one pick.
But there are three things at USC to keep your eye on.
The defensive coordinator, Alex Grinch, appears to be over his skis.
People are unhappy.
even some players, Lincoln needs to make a move. It's over. Number two, Caleb's dad getting over his
skis with a little of the power stuff in the NFL. He needs to scale back. Also, USC boosters and Lincoln
have issues. Lincoln wants new facilities. Boosters say, you keep asking us for facility money and
NIL money. Which one do you want? The boosters are right. Kids don't care about lockers in 2023.
They want lettuce. They want cash. They don't care. They don't care.
about how shiny their locker is.
That's like eight years ago at Oregon and Texas and Washington.
Kids don't care anymore.
They want money.
Forget new facilities.
I've been there.
They're fine.
They're good enough.
All the pressure in those three situations, it had been building.
And it culminated in a mess on Saturday.
USC looked distracted, and they were.
Notre Dame looked focus, and they were.
Lincoln is polarizing because he left Oklahoma
and the way he did and he took the quarterback.
People don't like that.
And I get it.
But again, he's 17 and 4 and has turned around quickly a mess.
But here is something that needs to be noted.
USC, LSU, and Colorado are three of the most heavily transfer portal driven programs in the country.
And all three, LSU, USC, and Colorado.
Colorado looked really good for a week or two, and then all of a sudden they didn't look good at all.
There's a reason.
You can't microwave success in college football or in life.
You can't skip steps.
I went and looked this morning.
Jim Harbaugh's truly best team, and he's a great coach.
Year 9.
Mack Brown's Natty at Texas, year 8.
Dabo Sweeney's best team at Clemson, year nine.
Brian Kelly's best team.
I don't want to hear about the Manti-Tayo team that got to the nanny and got destroyed.
His best team was year eight.
They almost beat Georgia.
Eight, nine, year nine, eight, seven.
Dabo, nine, Mac Brown, eight.
USC has five new transfers on their starting defense this season.
This season, half the defense.
Oklahoma, Michigan, Georgia, Ohio State, and Penn State combined,
combined have five new transfers on their starting defenses,
won a team.
LSU, Colorado, and USC, you can't microwave success.
You can't.
USC still, foundationally, has lots of pieces.
on the O line and D line, they have to upgrade.
I don't think the staff is right yet.
Even in Nick Saban, you don't generally get your first staff right.
You missing a coordinator and a couple of recruiters who can't coach on the staff.
USC is going to be fine.
Lincoln Riley's excellent.
Caleb Williams is going to be number one.
But there's tension in the program, too many transfers, dads have power,
booster's unhappy with new facilities, they're forced to pay for,
and Saturday, it culminated in a mess.
J-Mack with a news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on a news.
This is the herd line news.
Let's start with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The offense, Colin, not as dominant as last season.
Yeah, you can't deny it.
I've got some numbers to push back against this.
But former Eagle Donovan McNabb
says that Jalen Hertz and A.J. Brown's sideline argument
in week two is the reason behind this inconsistent offense, saying it's been so inconsistent each and every week.
And I go back to before the, I can't say argument or maybe the complaint from A.J. Brown about not being more involved in the offense and getting the ball.
I go to that because I've seen it before.
But what I'm seeing is I'm seeing offensive play calls that are being more catered to try and feature instead of establishing a tempo and a consistency from running the football, play action, quick game to be able to spread the ball around.
I think he's totally right.
I mentioned this in the offseason.
In Philadelphia, every sports radio caller pushed back on that.
Well, what do you mean, A.J. Brown?
There was drama last year.
Remember when Des Bryant was with Dallas.
It literally stunted some early growth with DAC because Des demanded the ball.
It's great to have Jemar Chase.
It's great to have a number one receiver.
As long as the quarterback runs the show.
quarterbacks make receivers. Receivers don't make teams, right? It's funny how, you know, Justin Jefferson,
Randy Moss, you can go to anybody. Eventually, Randy Moss had his best years with Tom Brady. Larry Fitzgerald
had best years with Carson Palmer. And so my takeaway is, if you really look at what this offense is,
it's a power offense between Kelsey, the O-line, Lane Johnson, Jalen Hertz, squatting 600 pounds,
and their block-willing tight ends. It's a power offense.
AJ Brown wants it to be a firework show.
It's not Miami.
You're not going to get that many touches here.
You're going to get six targets, five catches.
That's what you should get with this offense.
And I think when I see offenses catering to the star, and by the way, Cincinnati did a lot of this.
But Jamar Chase right now is the only thing that's working for Cincinnati's offense beyond Burrow.
But I see this all the time.
You're asking a quarterback to cater to the star receiver, and you lose what?
Your sense of identity.
Philadelphia is a power offense.
A tempo off it.
Go back to doing that.
All right.
I don't want to...
So I think this is about us, Colin.
Not just us, but fans.
So I looked this up, okay?
So this year, the Eagles only have two games where they scored 30 or more points.
You know, like, that feels low.
I went back and looked last year.
First six games.
Only over 30 points once.
I looked at yards per play.
They're down a little bit.
5.8 to 5.5.
They were sixth last year.
Now they're ninth.
Like, the offense is not that much.
worse. I think we thought that, oh, this team went to the Super Bowl. This team was awesome. They're
just going to dominate. Meanwhile, they changed their O-C. And the whole new, the running back room is
totally different. But it is worse. And there's more turnovers from jailers. Well, a little worse. Well,
a little worse in a league of type. So when you're a little worse and you're playing much better
teams, then it's worse. A tad worse. But remember, they got a new offensive coordinator.
If this show takes on a new executive producer, you know, and I'm now the new running. I'm
the Andre Swift coming in, and there's some changes.
There's going to be some moments where it's like, hey, this is going to take a little bit to figure out.
We have said that.
But Jaylen now has more picks now than he did last year.
Like it's noticeably they're more mistake prone.
And now Lane Johnson's hurt.
Well, that I think is huge.
I think the bigger story is coordinators matter.
Yeah, but wait.
So are you saying that, hey, AJ Brown, stop complaining?
I'm saying, AJ, this team's not built around you.
You may be the most talented player.
it's not built around you.
We have so many talented people in this building.
We're built around football.
Fox Sports is built around the NFL.
Our most talented people could be in college football and in soccer.
We are built around the NFL.
Philadelphia is built around a running quarterback and a power o line and tight end play.
That's what they are.
It doesn't matter who's the most talented guy.
Now in Kansas City, Mahomes and Kelsey are the two most talented,
and the offense is built around him.
So you have synergy there.
The problem with going and getting a high functioning wide receiver with strong opinion.
Now, again, in Buffalo, they don't have great backs.
So Stefan Diggs and Josh are the offense.
Burrow and Jamar Chase are.
But Philadelphia is not.
AJ entered this.
And they already had some of this puppy moving.
And this O line was already established.
So I think that's the, everybody in the NFL always want to go get this receiver.
go get that receiver.
I talked to Les Need.
I texted him once about two and a half months ago about a certain player.
And he said he doesn't fit our identity or our culture on this player.
And I thought that's really smart because the player was really talented.
But McVeigh has a culture, a belief system, a locker room sensibility.
You can be a not every star player fits every room.
And I'm not saying A.J. Brown doesn't fit.
but he's got a tum to terms with
I'm the most talented guy
but I am not the most
important guy
on the Eagles. I will
also add like we've seen some quarterbacks
go down, take some major hits, okay?
I thought Jalen Hertz ran
too much last year and you
need to dial it back. I know he's squat 600 pounds.
Colin, I'm not, I'm dialing
back to Jalen Hertz runs. I think that's like a good
idea. Would you agree? Like, you
don't want to put your new franchise guy in jeopardy.
I prefer he didn't run as much as
in the last two years he's run.
But I also think, you know, we talked about this with Jalen Hertz.
If Jalen Hertz ran as much as he runs now for four years and then it was over,
well, that's what you're paying him for.
I mean, we've talked about drafting a quarterback every year.
This idea that Lamar Jackson has to last seven, nine, ten more years.
If Lamar lasts five more years at this level of play and then he gets broken down,
I'd sign up for it today.
Okay, but the idea of finding that guy is very difficult.
and we've seen some teams, hey, it's almost impossible.
Like, I got Jalen Hertz.
I'm protecting him.
I'd rather have him for 10 years less running than four.
Do you buy a sports car to protect it or to have fun in it?
This idea of, I don't see.
This is something that I disagree with everybody in football.
This idea of protecting my players, I draft my players and they're going to be stars.
I need you to play.
I'm going to lean into you.
Well, you'd think they would be stars.
Not all of them.
Now, I don't want Josh Allen being the centerpiece of Buffalo's run game.
but he has to run.
Yeah, since they lost Jim Kelly, right?
20 years, they took them forever to find a quarterback.
Now they've got one, and if he runs a lot,
you know, this guy's going to break down pretty quickly.
I don't want to break down my sports car that quick.
I want to be driving it 20 years from now, top down on weekends.
Hey, I'm enjoying retirement.
Ryan can back me on this.
I've been on this for a while now.
Not every quarterback is a 401k, summer day trading.
I want Lamar Jackson running more.
Or if it gets us wins, because his contract now is, what, four or five years?
I can draft a quarterback fourth round or lower every year for five years.
I don't need to find Lamar for five years.
I mean, this idea that we're, again, there's a balance here.
I want my quarterbacks that can run running.
I don't want him to be the centerpiece of my run game.
But if Jalen Hertz isn't running, he's not the same player.
Yeah, I would agree.
Let's move on to Aaron Rogers.
he was on the sideline Sunday without his crutches and throwing the ball,
and everybody got excited.
Rogers' improbable recovery speed from the Achilles injury has given lots of Jets fans,
not this one.
Hope for a return this season.
Robert Sala, he wouldn't bet against him.
Your guess is as good as mine, man.
I'm just, like I said, we're leaving that door open for him.
You know, everything says he shouldn't be able to do this.
Everyone's like, God, anyone, any medical professional, anyone who's been through an Achilles
injury, it's all the same.
like there's no way but but don't don't don't tell him that and uh and like i said the more you
doubt him and the more you doubt whether or not he can he's capable of doing it i think it just fuels him
and uh because of that i mean if i was going to bet even though gambling's illegal for the uh for employees
but if i was a betting man i would bet on him not against him all right how do you feel as a jet
fan i've got i i don't think he's going to come back i think it's great publicity and i think
Aaron's in that space right now.
I don't like he's coming back.
All right.
So I'm not really a conspiracy theory guy.
I did listen.
Time out.
Time out.
A little.
I mean a little bit, but like I'm no RFK.
Let's just say that.
I listen to the New York Times Daily podcast about him and the president.
He's a little bit of a conspiracy.
He's a little bit.
I think Woody Johnson was hearing the Kirk Cousins noise.
And Robert Sala said, Aaron, we need you back, bro.
Can you please come back here?
put the good vibes out, show
maybe you can come back and let's get Woody off the ledge.
We do not want a quarterback here.
I want you here.
Even if you can't come back, put on a good face,
make it look like, hey, we're set,
and the energy is turned, and now Kirk Cousins' discussions are gone.
That's not a conspiracy theory.
That is not a conspiracy theory
is man didn't land on the moon.
It is probably not only not a conspiracy theory,
but it's very accurate.
that Woody Johnson, who has been impulsive, was listening to Sports Talk Radio and the Carson
Wents nonsense and the Kirk Cousins, in my opinion, nonsense.
And Sala said, hey, if you're around the building, it probably goes a long way,
elevating Zach and moving Woody off this.
Aaron's not going to be back until next year.
I don't think that's a conspiracy theory.
I can see Robert Sala.
I would bet 75 to 20.
Robert Sala said, hey, if you're around the building, and I don't even think he have to ask Aaron.
I think Aaron and Saul, let me ask yourself this.
Do you think Sala and Aaron talk on the phone regularly?
Yes.
I bet you it's three times a day.
Maybe not in the big film days, not when they're inserting their game plan.
They talk a lot.
Well, apparently Aaron was on the headset during the game.
I don't know if he was putting plays.
Aaron's driving back to Jersey, the beautiful mansion, and Sala's calling him.
You know they're having 25, 30 minute conversations on the phone.
and I don't think that's going to be a conspiracy theory.
I think that is Sala being very smart and saying,
dude, if you're around the room and Woody can see you, get down here.
By the way, Aaron doesn't want Kirk Cousins in the building.
He doesn't want another veteran quarterback.
Aaron doesn't want that.
So we've probably said, hey, man, the more you're here,
let's get Woody off the ledge with Kirk.
And Aaron's like, yeah, why would I want Kirk Cousins around?
That's not good for Aaron.
I will, I mean, you know, the hairstylist here said,
I'm not allowed to make any more head-shaving bets.
Remember the Seahawks thing?
But I will...
Whatever you want to do, we'll put the wager on it.
Aaron Rogers is not playing football again the season.
He's not.
Let's just stop.
I do not believe you is.
There's no chance.
No.
There is a chance.
If the tear wasn't as bad as the rupture wasn't as bad as some reports,
week 17...
It's only week seven.
It's two and a half months?
Two and a half months.
I mean, he's walking around now.
It's an Achilles.
This is usually about a year.
some freaks of nature are able to bounce back quickly,
but they're not the same.
Look at the Cam Acres situation.
I mean, come on.
This is nonsense.
All right, final story.
Breaking news here in the last 30 minutes out of Indy.
Jim Ursay,
Jim Ursay, the owner, announced that Anthony Richardson will undergo
season-ending shoulder surgery.
Richardson rookie campaign comes to a close.
He showed some promise.
We like what we saw.
Seven total touchdowns in four games.
He had more explosive plays at one point than any other player in the league.
I do want to say, and again, I'm not going in on Ursae here.
Why on earth is the owner coming out and announcing this?
This is something that it should be the coach or the GM.
Well, this is silly that the owner is getting involved.
You know I'm out on Ursa.
I didn't like what he did to Jonathan Taylor.
They made good.
I want my owner a little further away from the team.
I do, too.
But I don't think it's bad that he's undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
Let's get it right.
He played.
He showed promise.
Remember, Joe Burrow got hurt very early in his car.
career. Yeah. You're fine. I think he played. There's stuff to learn from. I thought he was dynamic.
I thought it was a fun watch. There was one dumb report that Anthony Richardson is getting
season-ending surgery on his own. The team said, oh, so maybe that's why Ursay was just squelching this.
Well, Ursay announces, as far as I can tell on his Twitter account, his ex-account, he announces
all breaking news. I think, no, I'm not joking. No, you're right. You're right. I just, you know,
I think that's his thing. It's not what I. He's got a,
I'd rather have a PR guy doing it, but I think that's what they do there.
I need the retweets or whatever they're called re-exes.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.
All sorts of stuff.
Yeah, I don't think it's a, I don't even think it's a stretch.
I'm 100% guaranteed it happened that Sala and Aaron Rogers talk on the phone regularly.
And when that Kirk Cousin stuff came out, Aaron's thinking, I'm going to save Zayor.
Zach Wilson, and I'm going to be around the facility.
Last thing we need is another quarterback in the building that's got playoff wins and $150,
$250 million net worth.
I don't need that in the building.
Zach doesn't.
And Aaron said, I don't think Aaron had to be talked into it.
I bet you Aaron called Sala and said, why don't I get in the building?
I don't think he had to be talked into.
I think it's an obvious one.
All get in the building.
I'll show promise.
Don't kid yourself.
Coaches and quarterbacks, when the own.
owner medals, coaches and quarterbacks do a lot of talking about the owner.
Owner is not the only one doing talking with his golf buddies and his billionaire guys on
golf streams.
I've known enough GMs in this league who roll their eyes at some of the owner stuff and
have to manipulate their impulsive owner.
So I looked up conspiracy theory, the definition, an explanation for an event or situation
that asserts the existence of a conspiracy by powerful and sinister groups.
Well, I don't think Robert Solis is not a conspiracy thing.
But that is my theory.
I don't think that's out there from anyone else, right?
Yeah.
Well, you said you found it on first to the market?
Yeah.
I don't think so.
Will you take that?
No.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.
Hi, this is Jay Glazer, and you may know me for the world of football or fighting or even shows
like HBO's ballers.
What you don't know is for my entire life, I have lived in something I refer to as the gray, depression, anxiety.
So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable, a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer where each week, while we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it.
Give it words.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
Enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast, Superhuman, documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me.
Cliver Taylor the fourth. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.

It's a space for honest conversations,
stories that don't always get told,
and for people who are chasing something bigger.
So if you've ever supported me

Do you remember when Diana Ross
Double-Tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day
But just so y'all know
I mean at this point
Mark this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line
We also have AIDS on the table right now
So
Thank you finishing that sentence
And yes
I don't think there's a more important year
For black people
Really?
Yeah
For me it's one of the most important years
For black people in American history

Tonight on FS1, the ALCS shifts to Arlington for game three where Jose Altuve and the reigning
champion Astros take on Corey Seeger and the Rangers.
Coverage begins at 7 Eastern 4 Pacific on FS1.
So if you went to work at a place and you're young, you're 24, 25, 26 years old, you're young.
And you were really good, really, really good right after.
out of the shoot when you got a job.
And then some people that were important around you left and you really got suddenly bad at
your job.
Did you fail?
Did you get dumb?
Did you get incompetent?
Again, you were very good your first year at the company.
And then you regressed badly and sharply.
Why?
When a quarterback comes into the league, we use.
know the order.
They come in,
they struggle, they flail,
and then eventually, everything slows down,
and hopefully, and usually, they get better.
What you almost never see in the NFL
is a quarterback comes in,
he's really good early and regresses sharply.
The hell happened?
Did he get hurt?
No.
Did he get incompetent?
Dumb?
No, no.
That's the question with Mack Jones.
Why has he regressed so sharply from a very good rookie year?
Hmm.
Tom Curran, honesty broker who covers the Patriots on a podcast.
He said, how did Jones go from a strong rookie season to this?
Maybe it's questionable decisions by Belichick.
Decisions like failing to have a succession plan for Josh McDaniel.
annuals, like putting a pair of plumbers in charge of wiring the house with Joe Judge and Matt
Patricia, like swinging and missing on half the offensive free agents taken in the 2021 spenderrama,
like trying to change the offense or failing to attack the tackle position in the draft or
free agency, moving on from Jacoby Myers, or deciding DeAndre Hopkins wouldn't help,
while giving raises to Trent Brown and Devante Parker,
that avalanche of mistakes isn't on Mac Jones,
but he's the one suffocating under the avalanche.
Ask yourself, if you went to a company at 24 and really did well,
some people left and you sharply declined.
Is that on you?
Maybe you're not great, maybe you have a ceiling.
But here's something to remember.
Tom Brady got significantly better at 43 years old and 44 years old and 45 years old and 45 years old once he left Belichick.
Did you know that?
His last three years in New England compare them to his three years in Tampa.
He had a higher passer rating, more yards, more touchdown pass it, and a higher completion percentage.
In Tampa, new culture, new house, new coaches, new teammates, new playbook.
And yet across the board, significantly better.
You won't blame Belichick for that, but you'll blame Mack Jones for this.
I said it yesterday.
Trees don't grow to the sky.
Stories have an ending.
Put up a statue, hire Ben Johnson,
Give Mac Jones one more year unless you can get Drake May or Caleb Williams in the draft.
Then roll it.
Those are A prospects.
Max a B prospect.
But it's interesting, right?
You're giving Belichick a pass for what he did in the past.
How did Mac Jones go from Pro Bowl level to awful?
It doesn't work that way.
Some guys go from Awful to Pro Bowl.
awful to capable,
they don't go from capable
pro bowl to awful
unless there's a reason.
Tom Curran, great stuff.
So
speaking of dysfunctional,
for years and years,
we all sort of looked at the Houston
Texans, even people in Houston,
and rolled our eyes.
But that's not the case anymore.
They're probably not going to make the playoffs,
but they're very formidable.
So speaking of work,
if you just show up on time, number one, and number two, have a good attitude.
Never met anybody like that that didn't succeed at work.
You may not be CEO.
But you show up on time, come with a good attitude, you'll be successful.
In the NFL, if you have the right coach and you get the quarterback right, it overcomes everything else.
And the Houston Texans are a great example of this.
I wrote down this list this morning.
Weak bordering on Looney Tunes ownership.
A certified loon in the front office.
Enabling their star quarterback who is doing bad things off the field.
Bad roster made a head coach who was pretty good into a GM who was awful,
gave away some of their best picks and players,
no momentum as a franchise at all.
then they get D'emico Ryan's who the Niner coaches felt was a star in the making and they draft C.J. Stroud.
Instantly viable.
You got to get the coach and quarterback right.
Now, the Chargers have the quarterback right.
Tennessee, the New York Giants, Pittsburgh, appear to have the coach right and not the quarterback.
Where you get into trouble in the NFL is convincing yourself.
average is good.
So that's why you've got to be careful.
In New York, they keep trying to convince themselves in the offseason.
That Daniel Jones contract is justified.
No, it's not.
Look at the tension Brandon Staley has created with the Chargers.
It's not him.
It's Herbert.
No, it's him.
It's not Herbert.
If you miss on both the coach and quarterback, everybody gets fired.
If you hit on one, you make a guy.
get fired because it creates false hope, delusion. But the Texans appear to have nailed both.
D'emico Ryan's was a rock star in the building in San Francisco, has been everything you hope for.
They got the front office right. And C.J. Stroud, he drops, seize the field, releases quickly
to the perfect spot. This kid appears to have it. D'Amico Ryan's really pleased heading into the by week.
I like where our team is, you know, headed into the buy 500.
And we've done some things really well, but there's also still a lot of things that we can
clean up, a lot of things that we can improve on.
But I'm still, I'm encouraged with where we are as a team.
Jay Mack and I talked about this yesterday.
I think you can spot good very early.
I also think don't rush to spot and call something a miss.
I don't think Bryce Young, we can make.
a call yet. He looks small. We worried about that. Anthony Richardson keeps getting hurt. I worry about that.
But I don't think it's crazy to acknowledge that C.J. Stroud, big, mobile enough, and super accurate.
He looks like a hit. I don't think it's crazy. Now, I thought Mack Jones, less talented, but had some of that.
Sit in the pocket, throw strikes capable. But I don't think it's too early to look at C.J. Stroud and go, with this whole line issue,
No momentum, defensive coach, he's pretty damn good.
Great, don't know.
But that looks like a hit.
And you and I don't like watching crappy football.
If Trevor Lawrence doesn't play tomorrow night, I'm going to struggle to watch Jags Saints.
We want these quarterbacks to all hit.
It makes the windows more fun to watch.
I don't think it's too early to say C.J. Stroud, at some level, whatever level the hit is, he does look like a hit.
which is, by the way, we saw it Burrow early, Lamar early,
Herbert early, most of the time, you see it very early.
Now, Jalen Hertz took a while.
Josh Allen took a year, but it looks like a hit.
I don't think it's hyperbolic.
I don't think it's over our skis saying he kind of looks like a hit to me.
We both liked him more than Bryce Young, right?
No, I didn't.
I thought it was the whole game in the playoff where he looked awesome.
No, I said there was a Herbert quality to him,
Right.
Whereas best game was his last game,
but I thought Bryce was the more natural,
intuitive thrower and mover.
And to this point,
now again,
Bryce has nothing to work with,
but to this point,
CJ's the hit.
