Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to futas to scheduling sex. Wait, what sex? Is it just me, or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turn, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with. laughs, tears, or tears of laughter.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Gianna Maria Riva on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was hungry.
Starting point is 00:01:53 You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Marquis come in to you, he's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:02:07 podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRedia.com or stream us live every day on the iHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Welcome to the herd. It's me, Jason McIntyre in for Colin Cowherd. He is enjoying the last days of summer before football begins. It is a beautiful Monday and I'm joined by Rachel Nichols. Everybody knows and loves Rachel Nichols. Longtime veteran journalist, host, analyst. I mean, she's done everything. Rachel, how was your weekend? You know, I was in Orlando for the Big Three championship game working with.
Starting point is 00:02:59 CBS so it was kind of crazy to see how much that league has grown yeah right when it started it was sort of like a random off thing to do in the summer and like it's legit man they had a full packed arena and you know names you know like michael beasley lans stevenson mario chommer's winning the title so you know i saw that it's fun orlando very sunny in uh august a little heat there it's it wasn't my favorite location to be in in august but you know you go where the basketball is yes speaking of heat my week off i popped over to Vegas made some bets for the season, the upcoming football season. And I saw Dave Matthews in concert. Excellent show, as always. We have an excellent show ahead. We'll do some gambling.
Starting point is 00:03:39 A lot of NFL as the week. We are now 10 days away from the beginning of the NFL season. Oh, boy, I am very excited. However, before I left for vacation, there were a couple big NFL stories. Caleb Williams, is he going to mesh with Ben Johnson? I return and it's still a problem. the Dallas Cowboys. Micah Parsons. What's going on with him and Jerry? It's still a problem. But bigger than both of those, perhaps combined,
Starting point is 00:04:07 is the Shadur Sanders developing situation in Cleveland. Folks, there's no way around this. He is the most hyped fifth round draft pick in the history of football. And Shadur took the field in the second half for the Browns. And as you can see here on FS1, it was a bit of a poop show. in the final preseason game for Sodor Sanders. He was an unmitigated disaster in the second half. He was three for six for 14 yards, and it gets worse.
Starting point is 00:04:41 He was sacked, as you can see, running for his life five times for minus 41 yards. So if you're keeping track at home, Rachel and I had more net passing yards than Shadur Sanders did on Saturday night. Folks, this was bad. but a funny thing happened as the critiques unfolded Sunday morning. And listen, I'm telling you right now, every single podcast, TV show, radio show, anybody writing about the NFL today is leading with Shedur Sanders, because it's just so wacky what's going on in Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:05:16 So you guys know in Hollywood, out here in L.A., there's a thing called a Nepo baby, right? Your mom or dad were famous, so they were in music or entertainment. And they get handed something, whether it's an album, a TV role, directing. And usually they're panned. Oh, come on. Nepo, baby. They were handed it. They've got to prove it before they get the accolades.
Starting point is 00:05:39 The opposite seems to be happening with Shadour Sanders. His legion of fans, he's now a celebrity quarterback, they're just expecting him to make the roster. I don't know that it's a 100% lock. I think he's going to make it. We'll know by Tuesday at 4 o'clock. but everybody's just expecting him to be given everything and folks that's just not how it works in the NFL
Starting point is 00:06:01 and if you listen to Shadur talk I mean after this performance against the Rams it was it was bad and there's some more bad news coming after it but here's Shadur talking about oh my gosh how upset he was that he was pulled before getting a chance to redeem himself in the two minute draw if I could go back and do anything
Starting point is 00:06:22 I mean, it's always everything in life if you had that chance, but we don't have the luxury to travel back in time. As a kid, I would want to go back and do things differently. Overall, of course, you wish you can, but in the battle the moment in the heat of the battle, you know, you want to be that out if you want to be that dog, you want to be out there in that final two-minute drive. So, you know, of course, of course small things, of course,
Starting point is 00:06:45 frustrate, but that's what happens, you know, when you want a player to be able to change a franchise. Yeah, smiling on the outside, maybe crying on the inside. Listen, it was very clear he was not happy to be pulled by Stefanski. So they put in Snoop Huntley, veteran quarterback, 27 years old, second tour of duty with the Browns. He leads him right down the field for the game winning field goal. Okay? And all these fans of Shador, I'm trying to understand why they love him so much.
Starting point is 00:07:16 And he's a guy. I get it. His dad is Dion Sanders, and he's kind of swagged out. but he was terrible. Can we be real? Pro football focus had a number that was staggering. Shadour's average time to throw was 5.13 seconds Saturday night. That's an eternity for a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:07:34 And he was still sacked five times in playing backyard football and running around. So yet this weird thing happens. Well, wait a minute. Hold on. Did you see that the Browns cut four of the five linemen who were blocking for Shador? They cut them on Sunday. So they weren't giving Shador a fair chance. Hello, guys, two of those linemen who were cut were also playing for Dylan Gabriel in the first half.
Starting point is 00:08:00 And Dylan Gabriel absolutely cooked, moved the team up and down the field, nine for 11 had a touchdown. And oh, by the way, two of those linemen were also blocking for Stoop Huntley on that final two-minute drive. And side note, Dylan Gabriel was not sacked. Stoop Huntley was not sacked. So Kevin Sifansky naturally is getting asked, yo, were you trying to sabotage? your quarterback, which is mind-blowing nonsense. Here's Daphansky. Can you address this sort of persistent narrative that you're trying to sabotage Shador Sanders, especially after, you know, after yesterday and not putting him in for the two-minute?
Starting point is 00:08:40 Yeah, obviously, I don't concern myself with outside type of things. But, but you know, I'm committed to his development, just like all of our rookies. So we'll continue to focus on getting our guys better. And that's what we'll stay committed to, and that's what's important to me. Things are not good for Stefansky. Remember, this is a guy who had to deal with the Baker-Mayfield nonsense. Baker-Mayfield, of course, was trying to play through an injury to grid it out. Disaster.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Then he had Deshawn Watson, awful, let's not to speak of it. folks, this is reminiscent of Brony James from two summers ago, okay? Remember, it was like, who's the first pick in the Bronny draft? I don't know. Brony went to the Lakers. It's all anybody cares about. Did you know Cam Ward got in a preseason fight? Good luck fighting that online, you know?
Starting point is 00:09:35 How's Travis Hunter doing trying to be a generational two-way process? Oh, we don't know. It's all about the fifth rounder should do. Folks, I have a solution. I'm one of these guys. I like to be solution-oriented. You know, apparently, you know, when the wife, is upset with something.
Starting point is 00:09:49 You're supposed to really listen and take it in. And I'm instantly like, let's just fast forward to the solution. I cannot deal with this negativity. So I want to deal with the solution for Shador. And I got shouted down in the morning meeting when I said, I got it, guys. Did you see the Raiders? They lost Aiden O'Connell out six to eight weeks, fractured end. If I'm the Browns, get Shadur out of here.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Please, I can't deal with this anymore. Let's just ship him to the Raiders. Jay, nobody's trading for Shador. Well, wait a sec. wait a sec. Pete Carroll did meet with Chador at the Combine. Shadour loves Vegas. Go look at his Instagram from January and February. Big fan of Vegas. Call Vegas legendary. It's not really legendary anymore, but I understand. Why wouldn't the Raiders say, hey, let's bring him in to be the backup?
Starting point is 00:10:35 He can learn from Gino Smith, who, by the way, struggled big time when he was with the Jets right out of college. Go ask Mark Sanchez about that. Sorry, Mark. Listen, I think Chadur can learn a lot. Nobody's going to ask for him to start in Vegas. Why don't you ship him out of town? Hey man, we'll take what we can get. Let's cut our losses. We don't need these headaches. And guess who else is following them out the door? The entire media. Nobody will care about Cleveland anymore. Browns, you got to fix this. Now, from one problem to another, let's go to Dallas and Jerry Jones versus Micah Parsons. I think this is like round nine? I think, is that where we are? Folks, I'm sure you saw the video
Starting point is 00:11:15 from the weekend. The Dallas Cowboys played a preseason game. Micah Parsons, the only cowboy on the sideline, not in a jersey. Michael Parsons also laying down on a table while the football was being played. And of course, the media is freaking out. Who cares what happened on the field? Because it's Micah Parsons. Now, Micah's got a bad back, but Brian Schottenheimer spoke to the media and was like, hey, it came back pretty clean. You can see where this is headed. It's about to get ugly in Dallas. you know, I already think the Cowboys are going to be a bit of a dumpster fire. But let's hear Jerry Jones talking about the situation with his star defender, Micah Parsons. We wanted to send the details to the agent.
Starting point is 00:11:58 The agent told us to stick it up our... We had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything. We were going to send it over to the agent. And the agent said, don't bother because we've got all that to negotiate. Well, I'd already negotiate. I'd already moved off my mark on several areas. It's the mama daddy deal. You go into Mama and she won't do it.
Starting point is 00:12:24 And she's the boss. So she won't do it. So you run into Daddy. Daddy says do it. And then you go back in and say, Mama, Daddy said it was all right. You lost me there, Jerry. Sounds like a Thanksgiving dinner story from your grandpa. Listen, I don't want to be too hard.
Starting point is 00:12:45 here on Jerry Jones. He's a power player in the NFL. I get it. But I am a thousand percent siding with Michael Parsons here. A thousand. It's not even close. I got to pick up for the little man in this discussion with a billionaire. Jerry, this isn't your first rodeo. You know that's not how negotiations work. You can't just have a side deal with the player and then it goes to the agent. Not going to happen. That's just not how it works. Now Jerry's been down this road before deal with DAC was a disaster strung it out to the last moment. Deal with CD Lamb did not go well. That was ugly. But Jerry gets it on some level. We are now in an attention economy, right? That's what it's all about. Are you talking about Dallas?
Starting point is 00:13:29 Yes. Is Jerry going on Michael Irvin's podcast? I didn't even know Mike had a podcast. Maybe that's new. Congratulations, Mike. And Jerry's making the rounds and he's just talk about us. We're Dallas. Please keep us in the news. And then as many people suspect a deal will get down at the last moment. Chris Jones, you guys remember with the Chiefs a couple years ago. Or maybe it was last year. Whenever they played the Lions in week one, he missed the game. And it was like, oh, we've got to get the Chris Jones deal done.
Starting point is 00:13:58 But what's different is Chris Jones had made a lot of money. Micah's still on his rookie deal. And Jerry said something last week about how, hey, we've got him under contract for three more years. that sounds like he's pretty dug in. If you're a Dallas fan and you love Michael Parsons, I'm going to go ahead and guess he's the best-selling jersey on the Cowboys. If it's not number one, it's two or three. It's right there at the top.
Starting point is 00:14:20 You're starting to alienate your fan base a little. Over what? A contract? Really? You were going to make him the highest paid, and now you're not because the agent's getting involved? Like, I'm just hopeful, folks, that this is the last we're going to hear of this.
Starting point is 00:14:36 And Dallas, both sides come to the table and get a deal. done. However, if you want to go back to this Emmett Smith situation, which is slightly different because he was a free agent, but he was at the height of his powers, the Cowboys were a juggernaut in the mid-90s, and Emmett, remember, sat out the first two games of the season waiting for a deal, ended up getting it after they went 0 and 2. What happens if the Cowboys get smashed in week one with no Micah Parsons? Does Jerry capitulate or does he say, we've got him for three more years? Well, Micah, you know, he can bring in an independent doctor and say, oh, my back, I can't go, hey, you can't play.
Starting point is 00:15:11 And this gets really ugly. Now, it could already be a lost season for Dallas, but can't we all just get along? I mean, I'm hopeful. I'm really hopeful. The Cowboys, we need stars like Michael Parsons in this league. So, Rachel, I don't know. We'll see. I'm really rooting for Micah to get it done, but this negotiation looks kind of ugly.
Starting point is 00:15:32 It feels different than some of the other ones you mentioned, right? there feels like there's more bad blood here. And the Cowboys have an advantage. They've got two years of franchising they can do after this year, which is the last year on his contract. So Jerry has said, we got three years to work this out. So Micah's not in the power position here. And if he just continues to sit out and sit out,
Starting point is 00:15:56 it'll cost him money if he can't get a medical excuse. And even if he can, this is years off his prime years of his career. It's a big deal. He hasn't made. And he didn't make that much in NIL because there was a COVID years and stuff. I'm rooting for you, Michael, but it's an uphill climb. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1 and the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Hey, Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. And together we're Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You can catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and of course the Iheart Radio app. Why should you listen to Kavino and Rich? Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? So check us out. We like to get you involved too. Take your phone calls, chop it up, as they say. I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio. Maybe the most interactive show on planet Earth. Be sure to check out Covino & Rich live on Fox Sports Radio and the IHeart Radio app from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific.
Starting point is 00:17:08 And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich wherever you get your podcast and, of course, on social media. That's Covino and Rich. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:17:25 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name,
Starting point is 00:17:37 Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:17:56 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notes. Notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:18:44 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise.
Starting point is 00:19:00 breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlic on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:19:33 And for more, follow Timbo Slicelife 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen should win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
Starting point is 00:20:02 She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:20:27 I heard Matt Mosley, who covers the Cowboys coming up in about 20 minutes. Can't wait to ask him about Micah versus Jerry. Gosh, you know I don't love talking about this next topic, but it is utterly fascinating. You cannot look away from it. Bill Belichick over the weekend announced North Carolina is indeed going to have a Hulu docu series covering the team. They will follow them around. There's cameras everywhere.
Starting point is 00:20:59 As Bill Belichick returns to football coaching this time in college for North Carolina, can he bring him to the playoff? It's a fun storyline. Now, if you remember a few months ago, North Carolina was talking to HBO about hard knocks. And that almost happened. It's like, oh, Belichick was once I'm going to a TV show? Oh, and it fell through. And then, wait, he's really hard up for him.
Starting point is 00:21:26 a TV show. Remember, this is the same Bill Belichick who famously hated the media, didn't I like the cameras, except for a spy gate. Ha ha, just kidding. Not really. And would like show up to the podium with like holes in his sweatshirt and joke about face smash and snap face or whatever his jokes were. He hates the media. He doesn't like the cameras. And now he's hard up to get a docu series on Hulu. Huh. What is a foot? Something doesn't seem right here. And my initial take was that his girlfriend is driving this boat and wants to be famous. Because, you know, in the modern era, you go on these reality shows.
Starting point is 00:22:08 Love is blind, whatever food show it is, and these people become famous. But somebody said something smart in the morning meeting about what if Belichick is trying to kind of have a rebrand? Okay. Well, it's easy to rebrand. Hey, I might be 73, but look at the 24-year-old girlfriend. Now, Jordan Hudson herself is fascinating because why would Belichick want to rebrand?
Starting point is 00:22:35 Not a lot of 73-year-olds are looking to rebrand themselves. It could be because Tom Brady rebranded himself in Tampa, same guy, basically, but won a Super Bowl, and then he kind of won the divorce or whatever you want to say. but would a 73-year-old want to rebrand himself or would his 24-year-old girlfriend want to rebrand him? Now, she is, again, I don't love talking about this because it's one of those tough topics where, you know, once your kids get to middle school and high school, you start meeting parents and I would say, you know, 25% of them are on their second marriage and then you meet the wife and she's like 20 years younger. So on some level I can understand Belichick dating a younger woman.
Starting point is 00:23:22 This is significant. It looks like a 48, 49 year age gap. She's going to turn 25. She's a former college cheerleader who went to cosmetology school and she's driving his rebrand. Miss Maine runner up is telling him what to do with look younger on a college campus by getting a Hulu docu series. What's next? Is Belichick going to get Botox? Like I, we're, how far do we take this?
Starting point is 00:23:50 And I just, I get worried. I spent some time last night looking for Jordan Hudson interviews and good luck finding her speak. There's literally, it's just photos of them. Now, they're wacky photos like yoga on the beach. And I get it. It's, you know, young love or puppy love or whatever they want to call it. But this to me, folks, I know we're excited for archmanning Ohio State this weekend. As the kids like to say, low key, I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:24:17 for the North Carolina debut. This is either going to be awesome or it's going to be a spectacular disaster train wreck that you can't look away from. Let's go to Rachel Nichols with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Jason, let's start with some big news out of D.C. That's right, my hometown, Terry McLaurin, has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $96 million extension with the commanders after a long offseason of contract negotiations and drama. Now, Jaden Daniels and Washington can put all that behind them. You go full steam ahead. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:24:56 What do you think the outlook for the commanders is considering they're now, the ship's all there? Everyone's there. So I forgot this is your team. Yeah, baby. It's interesting. Why did this have to last so long? Why did it get dragged out? I hope this is where Micah comes to a resolution.
Starting point is 00:25:14 with the Cowboys. But yeah, I love McLaurin staying with Washington. Their offense is going to be good. Rachel, that defense has some questions. That's the nicest thing anyone has said about that defense. Look, let's talk about the bright spots, right? Yeah, yeah, be positive. Yeah, yeah, a lot of negativity from the first point. No, no, no, but just because McLaren just signed, right? He was Daniel's favorite receiver, right? Caught 13 of his 25 touchdown passes, especially the deep balls. and he has been on par with other excellent receivers over the last few years. Two Pro Bowl appearances in the last three years. So the idea of the comfort factor for Daniels, I think,
Starting point is 00:25:53 is going to be a very big deal having him there on week one. And the whole ball game right now in Washington is make Jaden Daniels comfortable and continue with his progression because there's often that second year slow. Yeah, we saw with C.J. Stroud a little bit. So Jaden was unbelievable on fourth down last. year, high leverage plays, he always seemed to deliver. That's going to be tough to duplicate. Do you have any concerns about them returning to the playoffs?
Starting point is 00:26:19 NFC's kind of stacked. Yeah, I don't have a concern about them returning to the playoffs, but I don't think they're necessarily returning to the championship game, right? So I'll doubt that. I'll agree. Right. So, I mean, you know, the defense is going to continue to be an issue. We have to see if teams have figured out, not just Daniels, but Kingsbury's offense and
Starting point is 00:26:37 things in that second year, what else do they have to show for themselves? they have beefed up a little bit on the line, which is good news. But you can't get around the fact that they are right at the bottom. I mean, they could be a bottom five defense this year. So there's only so far you can go with that. Let me ask you about since you're a Washington, we don't call them Redskins. But from the Redskins era, Gary Clark was my favorite. I know people love Art Monk, but McLaurin, some of his numbers line up with like all-time
Starting point is 00:27:06 grades for Washington. People don't realize it. No, it's a good comp, by the way. in terms of the way he moves on the field. Yeah, I think this had to get done. There was a point earlier this season where McLaren asked for a trade because it wasn't getting done.
Starting point is 00:27:18 The hang up was a little bit about his age, right? He's 30 years old. That tends to be the beginning of the downslope for a lot of receivers. But if you look at the guys who have signed contracts around the amount of money that he has signed for, they're all around his age.
Starting point is 00:27:33 They're 30, 31, 32. He is the sixth best paid receiver this year with this new deal. I would take him over, iuk wouldn't you i mean iuk plus iukes hurt he's less of a headache than tyreek hill again low bar but yeah saint brown is really good a j brown's excellent i mean i would take mcclion over dk matcalf i mean metcalf's also getting up there in age but huh metcalf was sort of the standard he was going for financially metcalf's at 33 this new deal puts him at 32 so he got right around there
Starting point is 00:28:04 park yeah hey 32 mil yeah enjoy the commanders have the eighth hardest schedule In the NFL this year, that should probably be a factor too that we discuss as we figure this out. But good news out of camp this morning. And those of us in D.C. will take it. All right, we got to move on to your favorite quarterback. Yes, you know him. You love him. Just a feel.
Starting point is 00:28:27 Aaron Rogers. Earlier this offseason, he acknowledged this might be his final NFL season. But a little change over the weekend hasn't fully ruled out of return to 2026 in an appearance on Cam Hayward's podcast. podcast, D.K. Metcalf put his QB on the spot when discussing not this season, next season. Take a listen. I think we're going to do some special things this year, looking forward to it, and, you know, maybe we can run it back. Maybe. Did you see the delayed? Yeah, he's like, yeah, maybe.
Starting point is 00:29:09 I mean, you know, Aaron told Pat McAfee earlier this summer that this was going to be his last ride. Do you take that more seriously? Do you take this more seriously? Eric's got to get through this season. I don't take him seriously in general. I mean, from the bashing of political folks to the darkness retreat to what like every ex-girlfriend said about him, Danica Patrick on down. I mean, I just can't take it seriously. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Plus he was a disappointment with my jets. Yeah. But I'm sure they'll, you know, they'll be plucky. And I think the jets come after him on opening week, like big time. like heavy. I mean, you saw his preseason. He's not moving. Not like playing in preseason,
Starting point is 00:29:52 but like the snaps he's taken with the team. He's immobile. I think he'd come after him heavy. And a little payback for Aaron in week one for my jets. I mean, look, this conversation about next season might be a moot point. I mean, I don't know how far he's going to last this season. That's a turning back up, by the way. And the idea, by the way, you know how many 42-year-old quarterbacks
Starting point is 00:30:13 have played at least 10 games in one season? It's got to be Tom Brady. And Warren Moon, maybe? Tom Brady and Tom Brady. Oh, dear. That's it. And you, sir, are no Tom Brady. Oh, gee.
Starting point is 00:30:27 That's ours. Okay. There we go. Let's talk about the Giants wrapping up their preseason, and despite great play from Jackson Dart, they will, in fact, start Russell Wilson under Center in week one
Starting point is 00:30:37 against the commanders. Russ, officially the starter, the European questions about whether Dart lands in the depth chart, whether leaving him the door open for him to come in in the middle of the season, what do you think of the decision? Because you know, there's a lot of Jackson Dart love in the New York area. Everybody loves shiny new things.
Starting point is 00:30:55 He's brand new. You know, he looks the part at the podium. One thing I noticed, Rachel, early on, and you would go to these press conference after being. He looks at the media member and tries to, like, say their name sometimes. He's really forming that bond, if you will. And they, you know, the media. We love that when they talk about us. So I think he's playing all his cards right.
Starting point is 00:31:15 And, you know, if you have to say, Jay, well, he's, He started a game before Thanksgiving? I think he will. Look, first of all, no one is more popular on a football team than the backup quarterback. So this is right in line. I think you have to start with Wilson because you kind of can't go backward, right? If Wilson doesn't do well enough and the Giants have the toughest strength of schedule in the NFL, so it is more likely than not that there will be sputtering from that offense, right?
Starting point is 00:31:39 Then you can pull the vet for the younger kid. But if you put the kid in first and he has all of those problems, it is very hard to mentally get Russell Wilson back from, hey, you went away from me. I was supposed to be the starter here in my mind when I came in and you screwed me. So now I'm going to come in and pick up this kid's pieces. That is a much harder dynamic as a coach to deal with. So I wasn't surprised at all to see this news. So let me ask you though, James Winston is also very popular. Seems like he's already won over the locker room. Who do you think starts as the backup? Because it might be Winston just for being a veteran.
Starting point is 00:32:19 You know, if something happens to Ross, I don't think you're ready for Jackson Dart like week one or two. No, it might be Winston because of exactly what you said. But I think James is more in there as sort of a guy to bring the quarterback room together. It's very popular with his teammates. He's a real leader in that whole group. And I think they see him more in that role. It's almost like a vet at the end of an NBA bench or something where their future is obviously
Starting point is 00:32:45 not James Winston. So, yes, he might be number two on the depth chart. But I would say that if Russell Wilson doesn't end up finishing the season as the starter, you will see Jackson Dart at some point. I mean, Rachel, look at that. So Kansas City's got a really good defense. Spagnolo is excellent. Chargers defense should be very, very good.
Starting point is 00:33:04 You get a respite with the Saints, but Eagles, Broncos, Eagles, that could be the two best defenses in the NFL for three weeks in a row. And then the Niners with Robert Sala, who by midseason, should be hitting his form. So yeah, I don't feel great about Russ. I don't feel great about the Giants, despite their 3-0 preseason, right? Yeah, I mean, look, the Giants had such a dismal season last year that I think Giants fans out there are just like,
Starting point is 00:33:29 please don't make me embarrassed to be alive every week of the NFL season anymore. And I think they'll improve on their win total. How could you not, right? So the success for the Giants, fortunately, the bar for them is low. Very. And success for them could mean, five or six wins season. Does Brian Dable survive this season? I think that depends on the way that they win or lose, right? Because the strength of schedule, everyone realizes how tough this is with this
Starting point is 00:33:56 group. But I think that it sort of depends on, is it heartbreaking, you know, close losses? Is that they just get completely, you know, bashed out, that kind of thing. I mean, the Giants are returning 10 of 11 starters on offense. And this was an offense that could barely win a game last year. Oh, so, and the only non-returner, Russ, I guess, right? Oh, wow. So I think that if they don't do well, you've got to look up a little higher in the first one to go.
Starting point is 00:34:24 I don't know how attractive a job that is. All right, Rachel, with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News. All right, coming up, we head to Dallas. What's the end game from Micah Parsons and the Cowboys? That's next.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays and noon Eastern 9 a.m. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:34:54 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:35:11 And we were thinking, I'm originally. calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:35:24 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, Hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up
Starting point is 00:35:32 as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jenchen win. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted.
Starting point is 00:37:30 She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lerner Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface, because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court-side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Back here on the herd, Matt Mosley has covered the Cowboys for decades.
Starting point is 00:38:03 And I'm sure he's seen a contract squabble or two. So let's bring him in to discuss Micah versus Jerry. Matt Mosley, host of the Doomsday podcast. Doomsday, very apropos of this situation between Micah and Jerry. How are you doing, Matt? How's it holding up covering this nonsense? Can I call it that? It is.
Starting point is 00:38:25 But when you, since I came on with the Parcells in 2003, so I have a great running start to this nonsense. And so this too, I think it's kind of shocking to some people, But, you know, that this kind of, but to me, this one really goes hand in hand with this new documentary. And I think that has, I think Jerry has loved everything that is going on with this. The only strange thing about this, I've never seen Jerry go quite as much on these, like, media tours as he's on right now, separate of the documentary. Like, this is a, this is a man trying to win. the public over on a contract negotiation.
Starting point is 00:39:14 And I've never really seen him stoop to that. And it's not going to work. It's not, I mean, there's no, like nobody, no Cowboys fans are suddenly going, you know what, Mike is being extremely selfish and we don't like Micah. These fans for over 30 years now have had great practice at despising this owner and learning to be angry at him at all time. So Jerry is really wasting his time in trying to get people. Because first of all, people sort of understand how business works.
Starting point is 00:39:51 And Jerry eliminating the agent, trying to act like, hey, we've already agreed to a deal. It's completely, it's a very, very strange process that we've watched play out. And I've watched a bunch of crazy ones. In fact, the night he cut. Quincy Carter. I ended up at a bar with Jerry and he talked, we talked all into the evening. That's the great, like, it's the love, hate thing with Jerry. Yes, he's, he's, he's wild, but the greatest thing about him is, like when something like this is happening, there's a chance we may run into him at a bar and he'll tell us everything. And there's almost never been an owner
Starting point is 00:40:33 in the history of sports like this. So, uh, it's, um, it's, it's, The media, if you ever wonder like, that they get tired of Jerry, that the answer is no, because he constantly is helping us accessible. It's, yeah, it's, we never want him to step off the main stage. Yeah, so it's, I totally forgot that Jerry is on a bit of a media tour. He was on that show, Billy Bob Thornton, the Texas Oil Show. I can't remember the name of it now. Landman.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Landman, yes. excellent show by the way highly recommended so he was on there remember he had a little spot and then he did some media around that then he's got the the series uh now on netflix and now he's got this contract squabble so it's almost like jerry just wants to stay in the limelight and it's less about the parsons deal but it's more about hey hey talk to me people i'm here talk to me is that do you get that vibe only for about 40 years have i gotten that vibe um no but he's constantly at the center of attention. And by the way, go back and watch his performance in Landman. I mean, that was, and that's why, you know, people say, well, Jerry's lost a step.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Or like with these presidents that we've had recently and we're looking at the lucidity of certain people, I would always say, well, how would you ever know with Jerry? Like if he'd truly lost a step. And when you watch this documentary, he's still such an incredible storyteller. But he still has the belief, and that's why he invites these people to have sit-down interviews. That's why he went on with Michael Irvin the other day because, like, he really, really gets PR. Let me tell you where he didn't get PR, and that's what he started to Cowboys. That was the biggest PR blunder ever, and he'll never top that one. And that was the firing of Tom Landry.
Starting point is 00:42:33 And he got really bad, and I could even remember her name. I think she's still around. Lisa Lomaster was her name. She was like a big-time PR crisis management consultant, and she convinced Jerry, you should go fire Tom Landry yourself. The dumbest move he's ever made, he's told me that, he's admitted that to me before,
Starting point is 00:42:56 and Bum Bright, the owner at the time, hated Tom Landry and would have loved to go fire Tom Landry. And Jerry thought it would be honorable to go do it himself. And it blew up in his face, and it was horrible. And so it's interesting how Jerry has gone to extremely hated, to he and Jimmy being beloved in the 90s, and by the late 90s he's hated again because he was,
Starting point is 00:43:27 and again, Jimmy and Jerry, that was both their fault. And I think kind of both of them would admit that. But obviously, to this day, fans believe that it was Jerry mostly at fault in that divorce. And that was probably one of the worst divorces in NFL history. And it could have robbed Cowboys fans of at least two more Super Bowls. If those guys could have even made it, you know, we, we see relationships, J-MAC, like, that we know are ill-fated.
Starting point is 00:43:59 That was one of them. That was one of them. But if they could have made it 10 years, they could have had five of them. 10. They could have had five. They could have five Super Bowls. They only had two, right? Because he ran him off and Switzer got the third one. Yes. Good memory. Let me just quickly ask about this back MRI. So Schadenheimer said it came back pretty clean, which is not 100%, but it sounds like it's close. So then Micah's seen at the game laying down on the table and then he's, oh, well, I got the back injury. I'm just wondering, do you foresee Micah, here's the
Starting point is 00:44:34 images of him lying down. Do you see him saying, hey, my independent doctor says my back's not clear. I'm not risking it. Sorry, guys. And then it gets really, really ugly. Do you think we get there? That's interesting. I believe, and the team doctor for the Cowboys happens to be a longtime friend of mine, and he hasn't told me this, but I believe that was one of the cleanest MRIs in NFL history. and I believe some of this digs stuff, the Trayvon Diggs and the, I mean, I mean, McLaurin suddenly had an injury, right? He's like, well, he's going to have to sit out a couple of weeks. Oh, he signed a three-year, $96 million deal. Feeling better.
Starting point is 00:45:14 MRIs look good, where things are looking clean. So, Micah did something embarrassing. And I like Micah. And I think Micah is a very fun guy. he's an incredible player. I do think he's savvy. That was beneath him what he did the other night. And here's what he didn't mean to do.
Starting point is 00:45:37 He loves this new head coach. But things like that undermine the head coach. And here's what needs to happen in a situation like that. This would have happened with Bill Parcells back in the day. Somebody had to go tell him, hey, Micah's sleeping over on the table. And then, and then Shottie could. have gone over and said a word and shown some toughness. But you can't have that going on back there.
Starting point is 00:46:05 That whole thing was an embarrassment. I've been involved in covering standoffs for years. One was Bill Parcells and Larry Allen back in the day. And Larry wasn't working out, mainly because he was kind of out of shape that time in 2003. But I'll tell you that. You talk about one of the worst journalistic moments for me as a young report. very young at the time. In my late 20s, they call me and go, Matt, we need you to go. You're the only one that Larry Allen will talk to. We need you to go over to his house. Now, that's fun. About 8 o'clock on a Monday evening and a summer when he's refusing to show up for training to knock at Larry Allen's door and to have his wife answer and say something along the lines, oh, God, they're sending reporters over here. I've never wanted out of a neighborhood as quickly as that.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Can you imagine Larry Allen at 350 pounds? So anyway, that did not help our relationship. That ended like a lot of my relationships, too. Yeah. All right. Last question, we got two minutes left. Is Michael Parsons on the field in week one against the Eagles? Yes.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Oh, yes. I like it. No, there's no, and again, you're right. They could come up with some sort of injury, excuse. or something weird like that, but remember who Jerry is. And remember how much he loves the pageantry and the circus of all of this. And the last minute, get the deal signed is kind of a fun thing for him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:46 Dak got one of his deals done the morning of the first game. CD and Zeeks were done four or five days. every one of these holdouts end in the Cowboys capitulating, right? I mean, name me one that they've won, like, well, look at the Cowboys. They won this negotiation. Zeke, Zach. I mean, every CD, they all end in the deal's getting done. Just make sure, Matt, your headline on your website when this happens,
Starting point is 00:48:18 podcast, Big Blaring, Jerry Blinks. You know, it needs to be that, because like you said, they always capitulate, right? They do. And, you know, if you would just send me more headlines, I would appreciate it. I don't know. It would make life easier on me.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Matt, Matt Mosley, the man with the dooms day podcast. Great stuff, as always, Matt. Hey, man, you know, when the Cowboys are 5 and 11, or 5 and 12, you'll be right about Shottie getting the show in the door. Can't wait to read those headlines. I know him. I'm a jet guy. I can't believe you're rooting for this.
Starting point is 00:48:53 He was a terrible one. So like, when Colin's not here, I just have a chance to really expound and really open up about things. So I think I enjoyed that. Yeah, we'll have to do this more often. All right, man. Have a great one. Matt Mosley, doomsday podcast. The guy's been around the block.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Yeah, Rachel, I like his stuff. He's got. He's great. Yeah. No, have you ever gone to the door of an NFL player during negotiation? I have a door knocked anybody in a while. You're talking to someone who spent time on Brett Farve's lawn during Packers negotiations. So, yeah, I have been there.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Now, I know his wife, Deanna, pretty well. So, you know, we got cookies and stuff. So it was a little bit different. Look, the Jerry thing, I got to say, even if he does end up signing there, even if he does, he's going to have lost so much money. Like, that's what doesn't make sense for the Cowboys, is if they had given these guys' extensions when they deserved over the years, they wouldn't be out $60 million, $50. $50 million extra dollars.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Always get it done early. Great point. All right. Coming up, is it time to freak out about the bear's offense? You know cowherds nervous. That's next here on the herd. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:50:06 I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:50:14 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. You know, tired and sick, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:50:52 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was harmed.
Starting point is 00:51:17 You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to you. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball.
Starting point is 00:51:28 So listen to Point Game on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcasts presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend, Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the hips since high school.
Starting point is 00:51:42 Absolutely. A redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drinks. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo.
Starting point is 00:51:59 Well, then you got them. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed human.
