We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.

Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's
telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode,

Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.

Thanks for listening to the HARD podcast.
You know, there's a lot of things that people complain about in the world of sports,
but one thing, as it turns out, is going to be coming a little bit more valuable as the season goes on.
We'll get into that for you coming up here in just a couple of moments from now.
Jonas Knox in for Colin here on The Hurt, here on Fox Sports Radio.
You can find this show on the IHeart Radio app.
You can also find us on hundreds of affiliates all across the country,
as we take you all the way up until 3 p.m. Eastern time, noon Pacific.
And I was thinking about this as we are still in the midst of the college football Labor Day weekend extravaganza,
where you've got like 700 games over a four-day span or whatever to five-day span.
And that's not to be disrespectful to week zero, all right?
A lot of respect for week zero.
That still counts.
I don't know why it's called week zero.
It's kind of odd.
but we've got this giant college football weekend
and I was thinking about this.
Thank God for the expanded college football playoff.
Because, man, there's a lot of teams out there that are like,
you know what?
We don't get a preseason,
kind of ran into a little bit of a difficult situation.
At least we're going to have some time to sort through these things.
And you're looking back at last year and you go,
man, Ohio State won a national championship.
If you would have told them on the field as Michigan is celebrating at the horseshoe in Columbus,
hey, guys, don't worry about it.
You're going to win a national championship.
People probably wouldn't have believed you.
They probably wouldn't have cared.
But the expanded college football playoff has given teams an opportunity to maybe not be so punished for a loss.
And God forbid a loss when you go into a game.
difficult situation like some of these teams went into this weekend, whether it's Texas going to
the horseshoe and taking on the defending national champions, whether it's Notre Dame going
to Miami and taking on the hurricanes. I mean, Brian Kelly, credit to LSU. But do you really
think looking at that game now, do you think Clemson, when it's all said and done, is going to be
a forgotten team in the college football playoff? Who knows? Maybe they melt down. Maybe Kate Klubnick
suffers an unfortunate injury.
Who knows?
But the point is,
you've now got the opportunity
to make up for your O
that you lose
if you have the balls
to take on somebody
early in the season
that would be a difficult matchup.
This used to happen
in boxing all the time.
Fighters would protect their O
because it was looked at as like this
oh man, listen,
if you are undefeated,
It meet.
And then all of a sudden, the UFC came around and we're like, yeah, whatever, things happen.
Got caught in a choke, got clipped, got hit behind the ear.
Yeah, what happened?
You know, listen, that's the way this stuff goes.
And you now start looking back and going, who are the greatest fighters of all time?
George St. Pierre's in the conversation.
Losses.
Everybody love Connor McGregor, a lot of losses.
Daniel Cormier, losses.
John Jones has got one by Technicat.
But it's like, you look at it and you go,
yeah, a loss isn't the end of the world.
It's not the end of the road.
It's not the end of your career.
It's why people loved Manny Pachial,
maybe over Floyd Mayweather.
Floyd Mayweather, undefeated, great career.
Manny Pachial had balls, took chances,
took fights he probably didn't need to take,
took dangerous fights, fought in a dangerous style,
because he wasn't so fixated on keeping his perfect record.
And college football has now given teams an opportunity to do that.
Like, he got some people that were looking at and going,
yeah, but if you expand the college football playoff,
then, you know, it's going to diminish some of the impact of some of these games.
No, it's not.
No, it's not.
It's not going to take away from the entertainment value.
Did you watch this weekend?
It was awesome.
It was great to have college football back.
And I got news for you.
The quality of games weren't even that great.
Ohio State, Texas wasn't that great of a game.
You want to know how good of a game Ohio State Texas was?
There were people trying to figure out whether or not Ryan Day had a nipple piercing.
That's how, that's a kind of quality game we were talking about here.
But it didn't matter.
It was the atmosphere.
It was finally back.
People were starved for it.
And in a lot of ways, it delivered.
You did see sloppy games, but the atmosphere was there.
And more than that, you saw teams take chances.
Teams look at this as an opportunity to make a statement.
But even if you come up short, you're not going to be punished unfairly to where it would have happened in years past.
and as I mentioned
to open up, look, these guys
don't get preseason games.
That's why it looks like this.
That's why the first game of the year in Dublin
was awful in the first half.
Turnovers, rain, great.
It's like sloppy, sloppy, it's going to happen.
So when you look at college football
and you look at the landscape of college football,
I know there may be some people who don't like the expanded playoff,
They don't like the fact that we've got so many teams.
Dude, it's going to save seasons and give teams an opportunity to make up for, God forbid, suffering a loss.
It's no longer boxing.
You're not going to be punished or judged differently if you suffer a loss, especially early in the season.
You're going to have an opportunity, and the expanded playoffs is giving these teams an opportunity they would have never have had in years past.
at the Jonas Knox on X is where you can find us.
By the way, you can follow along on Instagram as well, too.
At Jonas Knox Show on Instagram is where you can find us.
All right.
So now, speaking of the college football weekend.
All right, and let's go back to Columbus.
And no, we're not talking about Ryan Day's nipple piercing.
We're not getting into that.
Some people have said that's a fake photo.
It looked like a bar.
It didn't even look like a hoop.
It looked like a bar.
Which, look, you know, guys getting after it a little bit.
Maybe he polishes his beard.
Maybe he doesn't.
You know, the great Petros Papadagos was the first to point that out.
I'm not here to judge.
I've made awful decisions.
I've had piercings.
I got dumb tattoos.
I'm not here to judge.
Ryan Day wants to go get his nipple pierce.
Go get his nipple pierce.
But maybe it was a fake photo.
Maybe it wasn't.
The other story to come out of that game,
outside of whether or not,
Ryan Day hit up a piercing shop in Columbus and got his breast stabbed by a guy with 35,000 tattoos.
the Arch Manning reaction.
Now, to be fair,
let's give the man an opportunity to talk.
Let's listen to Arch Manning.
Here he was following the difficult performance
and difficult game and difficult setting he was in in Columbus.
Yeah, it didn't start fast enough.
It took a whole half for us to kind of even get the ball down the field.
So that starts with me.
Get back to square one and get back Monday and go prepare for something.
Tennessee State. Yeah, ultimately not good enough.
Obviously, you don't want to start up season
0-1-1. They're a good team,
but I thought we beat ourselves a lot,
and that starts with me, and I've got to play better
for us to win. Can't wait until the second half to
kind of get things going. All right.
That was Arch Manning.
I don't know who did this.
I don't know who's responsible for this.
And look, I'm not trying to blame
other people in the industry or in
media. All right? I'm just pointing
out the fact that I was not one of these people,
I felt like I had a more rational understanding of what the expectation should be.
My expectations were a little different.
But I don't know what people thought they were going to get from a guy who has two starts in his career,
who's going on the road against the defending national champions at their house in front of a hundred plus thousand people in his third.
in his third start.
In week one, when, as I mentioned,
things are going to be a little sloppy,
not just for Archmanning,
but for a lot of teams in college football,
because, as I mentioned, you don't get a preseason.
And I'm seeing, like, this referendum on Archmanning,
like, oh, my God, the Heisman odds have dipped.
The Heisman odds have dipped.
Okay.
You want to talk about some of the other things that you could gamble on throughout the course of time.
All right.
Anybody else want to talk about the fact that people were betting on?
Where was the next place a sex toy was going to be thrown on the court at a WNBA game?
Okay?
And that got more action than a futures bet on who was going to win the WNBA championship.
You can bet on a lot of things.
All right, so let's take that with a grain of salt.
And that's not to insult my friends in the gambling industry.
I'm a degenerate.
proud of it
okay
but let's not look at it go
all by God the high's been odds
who set the odds
who perpetuated this story
who's the one that was pushing
archmanning out there to be the next big thing
on two starts
and I got news for you
maybe he turns things around
maybe against San Jose State or some of these
other schools he's going to find his rhythm
he looked a little better in the second half
but yeah, he's going to struggle.
My guess would be a lot of quarterbacks would struggle in that environment against that team.
And credit to Matt Patricia, the defensive coordinator for Ohio State.
But this idea that all, like, oh, yep, the book is written on Arch Manning.
Really?
Who wrote the first one?
We got two pages in and everyone who's like, oh, this is the greatest novel I've ever seen.
You're two pages in.
He started two games.
Who pushed that out there?
I didn't.
Because it doesn't make sense.
We've seen this when it comes to college football in the past.
Nobody was talking about Johnny Mansell.
Nobody was talking about Johnny Mansell.
I can remember the one guy.
There was one guy who was trying to tell people about Johnny Mansell.
And he kept calling him Johnny Football.
I'm like, dude, John Fricky, former Foxx.
radio host. I remember working
with Fricky, and I remember him saying
Johnny Football, got to watch out
for Johnny football. Nobody else was talking
about Johnny Mansell. You couldn't even get
an interview with the guy.
I tried.
Texas A&M said, no, he's a freshman.
We don't let freshmen do interviews.
The point is
RG3 being a Heisman. Nobody had
RG3 winning the Heisman, and then he lit
everything up the first week of the season. Everyone's like,
oh, that guy might be a contender.
But this idea that
going into the season off two starts.
Oh, he's the Heisman favorite.
He's this. He's that.
First off, I'm not going to say it's unfair to him.
His last name is Manning.
We know that comes with the territory.
But who pushed this notion out there?
It was unrealistic.
The entire idea that Arch Manning was going to be out there
and he was going to light up Ohio State and they got problem.
Dude, it's the first week.
It's his third start.
And that's Ohio State.
This doesn't mean that all of a sudden he's a bust.
It doesn't mean that, you know, Archmanning, no, it's going to take some time.
And maybe he wasn't as good as everybody built him up to be yet.
But whose fault is that?
Arch Manning?
It's not his fault.
His granddad's talking about, well, he wants to stay in school.
He wants to stay in this.
People are talking about, well, you know, the saints are trying to take for him.
Or tank for him.
And Arch Manning's like, I don't know where anybody's getting this from.
I haven't made any decisions.
What is happening here?
So for everybody out there who all of a sudden has decided on what their opinion of Archmanning is after one game,
maybe we should revisit your opinion before that game after he started two games
to get a better understanding as to how realistic the idea of what you thought was going to happen really was.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, new?
Huge news.
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to a...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name,
Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
one of the early names of our band
before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad,
Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential type.
for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

It's a herd here on Fox Sports Radio.
Jonas Knox in for Colin.
By the way, coming up in, we'll call it about 10 minutes from now,
on the first installment of the herd line news,
somebody catching a lot of heat via social media and in the world of sports,
I think they should be celebrated, okay?
I think they should be celebrated,
and we will explain why that is coming up here in about 10 minutes from now.
So you knew that this was going to happen, all right?
Now, I do appreciate
people that
very successful people that are always trying to learn
Like that's important
Like you're always trying to learn
Like hey, what's somebody else doing?
Maybe I could take something from them
Maybe their ideas a little better than mine
I don't want to be so set in my ways
Okay, I don't want to be so set in my ways
And I got to give credit where credits do
I don't know who's pushing the PR for the Dallas Cowboys
I don't know who's doing it
all right
I'm not sure
but whoever
had the thought of
you know what
why don't we just hit up the Mabs
and see how they handled the Luca trade
right remember that
remember when the Mavs trade Luka
you know they trade Luca to the Lakers
and nobody could figure it out
and then all these reports
come out afterwards where they're basically
fat shaming
Luca you know
like they
the Dallas Mavericks
made a concerted effort
to make it seem like
Luke Kadaunchich
was lardass from Stand By Me
Like
He wasn't practicing his jump shot
He was in a pie eating contest
Like that
If you want to believe the Mavs
That's basically what the Dallas Mavericks are doing
And so the Dallas Cowboys
And again I don't know who's doing this
All right
But this according to the great Albert Breer
All right
Who's a frequent contributor
On two pros
in a cup of Joe with myself and Lovar Earrington and Brady Quinn,
who are both enjoying the day off today.
But Albert Breer said this, quote,
Zach Martin, C.D. Lamb, and Dak Prescott are and were very popular in the locker room.
That's not the case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways,
seen by some as egotistical and self-centered, his podcast.
has created issues too.
That goes all the way up to quarterback Dak Prescott.
All right.
Now, maybe all that's true.
Maybe Micah Parsons is a bit of a pain in the ass.
All right, we've heard that.
That's not the first time Albert Breers reported that.
All right, he's been on that before anybody that, you know, listen,
things maybe were a little different and difficult behind the scenes dealing with Micah Parsons.
You had Jerry Jones kind of make mention of this when he had that, you know, awful press conference.
a couple of days ago where he said, well, you know, we wanted Micah to take on, you know,
be more of a take on more of a leadership role.
That was the expectation.
Like, there's been some rumblings about that, right?
But the idea that Micah Parsons' ego is what led to the potential split between the
Cowboys and Micah Parsons is comical.
Now, Dak Prescott did speak about.
the decision to move on from Micah Parsons and it sounded like this.
I definitely didn't think he was going to get traded.
I'll say that.
But just with the way that their negotiations went down, obviously, to some extent,
I mean, how y'all were asking me questions, it seemed like it got personal on their ends.
So, like, that's why I wasn't surprised.
So that's Dak Prescott.
And Dak Prescott may be one of those guys who thought Micah Parsons was a pain in the ass.
Is that, Dak Prescott may have been one of those guys who was like, yeah, this guy's a little bit of a headache, etc., etc.
But this notion that that was what the real issue was between Micah Parsons and the Cowboys is laughable.
Considering this is the same organization that was willing to overlook the egos and maybe odd behavior of guys like,
I don't know, Greg Hardy, ever heard of him?
You know, stuff in the past.
That was okay.
I mean, I don't know.
Anybody ever, you know, looked into, you know, behavior in the locker room from Charles Haley?
Or anybody ever look into that?
You know, I'll put it this way, because I want to keep it clean.
Right.
If this was another time slot, maybe I could go a little bit more in depth.
But Charles Haley thought it was the perfect opportunity to have his own batting practice.
We'll just put it that way.
You can look that story up.
odd behavior, creepy behavior, weird behavior, all of that acceptable, apparently.
Dion Sanders had an ego.
Apparently it wasn't too much to where they were like, ah, no, we can't.
No, the problem is trying to make sense of absolute nonsense.
And it's a waste of time.
It's a terrible move and a terrible trade.
It's terrible.
and anybody trying to find the reasoning why,
you just can't sometimes.
You can't.
I've said this before.
You can't argue with or fix crazy from time to time.
You just can't do it.
Who listening here right now has ever dated somebody who was crazy?
Just crazy.
All right?
Lee, I'm not even going there.
Okay, but the point is,
at first you defend them
like your buddy pulls you aside and goes
hey man she's a little
little crazy okay there's
there's something going on there no no you just
don't know man you know it's like behind the scenes and
no no no you don't get it you don't you don't see what it's like
she just had a couple of drinks that's all it's not that big of a deal
she just you know she was a little uncomfortable being at
and then like it happens it happens it happens
and then you know a couple months later a couple months later a couple of
A couple years later, who knows?
30 years after you last appeared in a conference championship game, somebody pulls you
aside and you look at them and go, yeah, yeah, it's just nuts.
It's just crazy.
Yeah, yeah, you're right.
You're right.
And you were right the whole time.
That's where we're at with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.
It doesn't make sense.
None of it makes sense.
You can't make sense of the nonsense.
It's crazy.
It was a crazy decision to trade Mike apart.
It was a crazy decision to not get a deal done sooner.
All of it was crazy.
And so whatever story that's coming out where Micah had an ego and Mikea, dude, who cares?
It's the NFL.
If somebody can play, you're willing to overlook whatever issues they have off the field to a certain extent.
Look at Deshawn Watson.
Okay, what, 60, 100?
different accusations from massage therapist and Jimmy has them and the Browns are like,
yeah, I don't care you can play quarterback.
They thought.
So let's make a move and get it done.
Yeah, we'll deal with the suspension.
We'll deal with all that.
So this idea that Micah Parsons' ego was part of the reason that they didn't get a deal done.
Man, there's been a lot of guys that have blown through Dallas.
No pun intended.
All right.
We're not bringing up the White House and all the other stories from the past.
But there's been a lot of guys who played for the Cowboys
who had, at best, an ego.
At worst, something far beyond that.
And they were willing to overlook that.
You can't make sense of any of this.
There's a reason why nobody cares about the Packer's side of this trade.
You want to know why?
Because there's nothing to discuss.
There's nothing to debate.
Oh, yeah, he's a great player.
Maybe the best player at his position.
They paid him a lot.
They brought them in.
Cool.
They're chasing Super Bowls.
Like, nobody's talking about the Packers side.
You notice that?
Nobody's having a discussion about it.
Because everybody knows that the Green Bay Packers did exactly what they should have done.
They wanted to get better.
They identified an opportunity to get better at a position of need.
They got aggressive.
And they called up the Looney in the end.
and the NFC's and said, hey, are you serious about this?
You really want to trade him? Cool?
Like, yeah, yeah, okay.
Yeah, we'll take him.
Sure, 47 million a year, whatever the guarantees are, whatever, whatever, that's fine.
Send him to Green Bay.
Yeah, listen, there's not as much to do there as in Dallas.
But you know what?
Maybe he'll be playing for a Super Bowl,
which he was never going to do with the Cowboys.
So I don't care about, and this is, you know, not a knock on Albert Breer.
He's been fantastic through this entire price, as far as we're,
that side of it.
But if that really is part of the explanation,
then that ought to tell you you can't explain it.
Because you can't explain away crazy
despite what people are trying to do with the Michael Parsons trade in Dallas.

And right now it is time for Lead to Laugh with the Hurdline News.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
What up, Lee?
No much, Jonas. How you doing, buddy?
We're just hanging out, man.
Just hanging out.
You and I are just working.
That's working.
Happy Labor Day, man.
I like to work on Labor Day.
Just people that work, you know?
That's what I always thought is you should work on Labor Day.
Yeah, that's what I thought, too.
Jonas, in case you missed this,
public enemy number one from the weekend,
Polish CEO, Piotr Cherrick, has made an apology.
Do you know who that is?
Peter, Piotr Cherrick.
That's the guy who had the fast hands.
That's right.
From the U.S. Open, in case you missed it, he snatched a hat from a Polish tennis player
who was making the autographs after his big win.
He made a big upset, and he was doing autographs for the kids and fans in the stands.
He was handing out a hat, and a kid was about to grab it, but instead, Polish CEO, Peter
Cherik snagged it in front of him, and he's become public enemy number one.
people calling him a jerk and plenty of other names online.
Well, he has made his apology saying he has made a grave mistake.
I was convinced that the tennis player was passing the cap to me for my sons who had previously asked for autographs.
I sincerely apologize to the boy who was harmed, his family, as well as all the fans and player himself.
So the kid's slow on the draw, and this guy gets all the heat for it?
That's right.
What are we talking about here?
The kid was, did get a hat after all.
The tennis player did find him and gave him a bunch of gifts, including a new hat.
I mean, I got news for you.
That was my son who had a hat taken from him.
And he looks at me and says, but can I still get a hat?
I'd be like, no.
And in fact, you're grounded for three weeks.
Be faster, okay?
Guys handing out valuable items.
You got to know this is in demand.
This is a big story for Poland.
Guys handing out hats, stuff that's going to be valuable one day.
You got to be faster.
Okay, you can't stand around and expect things are going to be given to you.
So I'm with this guy.
He shouldn't have apologized.
Yeah, a bunch of people agree with you.
some fake lawyers took, were fast on the draw two taking to the internet,
claiming to be his lawyer saying if you were faster, you'd have it.
This was a learning lesson.
Yeah, that's right.
This is a valuable lesson here.
It's also a valuable lesson that like the whole idea of asking for assigned items is just odd to me.
Like I took, my wife and I took, my son loves, he loves baseball.
He loves the Cubs.
And so we took him to the Cubs Angels game the Friday before this past.
Friday. And she was like, you know, did you bring a pen? Pen for what? She goes, you know,
maybe we could get somebody to sign something. It's like, no. Got to have that Sharpie ready.
No, no, we're not. We're not doing that. I'm not running around in the heat to try and get
Danesby Swanson's autograph on a baseball that my son's just going to scribble off anyways.
What are we talking about here? Come on, man. You got to get it for the kids. The kids is great,
but he is a big funder of the Polish Tennis Federation. So I'm sure he wants to
little something for his money, you know.
I mean, look, it's a
lesson, it's a learning lesson,
all right, and it's that old, that old
quote, there is
no losing, you win or you learn.
And hopefully that kid learned.
What else we got, Lee?
Jonas, it's been reported that the 49ers will wear their
white jerseys for the early season games,
home games to combat the
possible heat factor at Levi Stadium.
They will wear their white throwbacks in week three
versus the Cardinals and their primary white
uniforms versus the jet.
Maguars in week four?
I didn't realize that that was such a big deal.
And then I think it was,
was it Rex Ryan who made the point?
I think it was Rex Ryan who made the point that he was like,
listen, man, like a lot of people don't talk about the humidity.
Like, there's people that talk about, you know, the cold being a factor.
But the humidity in Florida, the heat early in the year,
like it does have an impact,
especially when you haven't played a real game in a long time.
So, yeah, I mean, it makes sense.
I didn't know the heat was that much of an issue at Levi's Stadium.
Like, if you watch a Giants game, if you watch a San Francisco Giants game,
people are in turtlenecks, people are bundled up.
But I didn't realize that Levi Stadium had that much of a heat issue.
I've heard it's a huge, huge issue at Levi's Stadium that it's almost unbearable on one side of the stadium that you really,
I assume that the ticket prices are much different for the shady side versus the heated side.
Yeah, that is a good move.
Like if you're going to buy tickets to anywhere, you got to check the shade.
Oh, we're going through a heat wave here and we're doing the same thing for Dodgers games.
We're always looking to get the shady side.
Let's go live to our weatherman, Chris Perfet, for the latest, Chris.
I think I had a friend one time go down to like Lions Chargers when they were still playing in Qualcomm.
It's like week one.
And he sat on the shaded side.
And meanwhile, on the field, like guys, they're cleats.
The, you know, the artificial turf, the rubber down there was like melting into the cleats.
It was that hot.
Yeah.
And by the way, what a dump Qualcomm Stadium was.
Oh, God. Whoa.
No wonder Barrett Robbins took off to Tijuana.
I wouldn't want to play in that game either.
Play sucks.
That was my first NFL stadium, so I didn't know any different, any better.
So I was like, yeah, this place is cool.
And then you went to another one.
You're like, oh, God.
Yeah.
Look, it's moving up from a high school stadium to, like, I don't know, like Notre Dame.
It was, that place was rough, man.
That play.
And they had a Super Bowl.
They had a lot going on there.
That place was rough.
I thought it was cool because you could just take the train right to the stadium,
which is always a good factor for stadiums, I thought.
Yeah, I mean, at that point, just take the train and keep on going.
Like, as far as it takes you, if you end up in Halisco, that's fine.
Just take it where you can.
What else we got late?
Shiloh Sanders, the NFL has decided to find him $5,000 after he was ejected from that game
versus the bills in the preseason and subsequently cut from the team from the Buccaneers.
Well, he says if he doesn't land on another team, he's ready to move on and find new ventures in music, acting, and modeling.
His dad, Dion, Mr. Prime, says, you guys don't know how versatile and talented my son is.
Okay, so he may not play in the NFL again, and they're still going to come after him for five grand?
Yeah.
Like, the NFL doesn't have enough money.
You've got to come after Shiloh Sanders for five grand.
Like, what if I mean, come on.
Would it have been more if he had made the team in this?
was a regular season game.
I see.
Yeah, I don't know, because I think it's a percentage of what you make, like whatever your salary is.
I think it's a percentage of that that you get fined.
But listen, he threw a punch.
It was a dumb move.
He's already been punished.
All right.
They released him.
You know, he wasn't picked up on the practice squad, I don't think.
Now he's going to try and figure things out somewhere else.
But, I mean, five, like, the NFL needs five grand so much that they're going to come after him for him.
I'm sure it goes to a charity.
Yeah.
Godell's charity. By the way, I don't know if that's confirmed. I don't want to get in trouble
here as we are in for calling on the herd here. I don't know if that's actually true. But yeah,
it just seems like the NFL going after some. It's like when the NFL punishes guys because
their socks weren't pulled up, which by the way, Caleb Williams had his socks down.
I think the entire preseason, did he get punished for that? Could you grok that? Could you look
up whether or not Caleb Williams got punished for having his socks pulled down? Like, for some
reason, he just decided, you know what? I'm going to go back to paint my nails and not pull
my socks up. Because last I
checked, that's a punishable offense
if you do that during
an NFL game. You got the
wardrobe police who come around to try
and find guys.
I see criticism, but no official fine.
I'll dive deeper for you.
That's unfortunate. All right.
There it is. Lee DeLap with the
Heard Line News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

We have some big news.
What's the news, huge news?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it.
First people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
We're starting a trend.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast.
We could call in and say, hey Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.

All right.
The ratings came out recently.
for the NFL's preseason.
Via Austin Carp of Sports Business Journal,
who reports that the NFL enjoyed its most watched preseason since 2018.
Games averaged 2.2 million viewers across NFL Network, Fox, ESPN, NBC, and CBS.
That's up 17% from last year.
Now, as the season is now, it is game week.
We're getting ready for the real regular season to take place.
all right, I've always stood on the side of, hey man, watch the preseason, watch these games, it's fun.
I mean, there's heartwarming stories and whatever's going on with, you know, Hard Knox,
which, by the way, I did not watch one single second of Hard Knox this year, and I was okay.
But you watch the preseason, and sometimes the fields aren't painted,
sometimes guys are in there and they're wearing, you know, different uniform numbers,
and they're going to wear when the regular season starts because guys are getting cut.
left and right, et cetera, et cetera.
But those numbers tell you that the gap is widening.
The gap between the NFL and everybody else is widening.
Because there's an opportunity and there's a lane for potentially other leagues,
other people, other sports to pop up, and nobody's able to do it.
and the lead the NFL has over everybody else is getting longer and longer and longer
and they're going to continue to figure out ways to take over everything
and you could go back to COVID which I think taught the NFL that hey man you can play
games on different days of the week you can't do this you can't adjust if need be you can
and the NFL realized oh you know we could just go ahead and take Christmas
We can take all these all.
We'll just, we'll take it all.
And there's a lot of people that wonder,
all right, when are we going to reach a point to where it's just too much,
where they've got NFL fatigue?
Because starting this week,
they've got it covered through mid-February.
So just think about that.
They've got it covered through mid-February.
And people can't even wait for the regular season to get their fix.
and to scratch the itch.
And whether it's fantasy football,
whether it's gambling,
which is a form of,
or fantasy football,
which is a form of gambling,
whatever it is,
the fact that the NFL in a pre-season
is seeing its numbers go up,
when other leagues and other sports
are seeing their numbers go down
or they're seeing dips and they're,
that just shows you that they've adjusted,
that they've recognized,
yeah, you know what?
And if you want to talk about, you know, pushing storylines, if you want to say, oh, what was Shador Sanders?
Fine.
Call Shador Sanders.
But he started one preseason game.
He didn't play in another, and he played late in the third.
This isn't just a Shador Sanders thing.
And the thing about the NFL is it's not so much about the stars.
With the NBA, you need, you know, star power.
You need, you know, it's all about the names, it's LeBron, it's all these names that come along with it.
In the NFL, you've got your fan bases, you've got your teams.
Great quarterbacks, great stars help, all that's, I mean, all that's fine and dandy.
But ultimately, people love their teams.
People are fired up to watch their team.
People have hope for their team.
And then kickoff starts and you look and you realize, oh, God, they're awful.
Like, yeah, this is a problem.
And so I don't see a bubble bursting.
Think about the discussions that we have about teams that aren't even good in the NFL.
The Cowboys.
They're not even good.
And they take over majority of the discussion.
You can argue the Cowboys are talked about more than any other professional team in sports.
And they're not even good.
How many times have you heard a discussion of,
about the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are good?
You don't.
You just don't.
But you do with the Cowboys.
You do with the Jets.
You do with other mediocre teams around the NFL
because the NFL is proven it's king.
We're not even at the regular season
and you're seeing the numbers increase,
which tells me the numbers are probably going to go up
when the regular season starts
because people are starved for football.
because whatever other sport that they're presented,
whatever sport they're watching when it's not football,
it doesn't compare.
I love baseball.
I'm a big baseball fan.
Not even in the same stratosphere.
Not even close.
I think it's gotten better.
I think it's improved.
I think there's better storylines.
I think the product is better.
It's gotten more entertaining,
but not even in the same stratosphere.
I like the NBA.
The fact that the NBA, unopposed, can't touch the NFL.
Even when you did have good games and good story, even when you had good finishes and all that,
the fact that they can't even touch the NFL, when there's no NFL on,
that people would rather hear discussions about the draft and the fallout from the draft
than they would teams fighting for a playoff spot or the playing games.
college basketball is a three-week sport now.
It just is.
It's all about the NCAA tournament.
The NFL has figured it out.
And whether you want to credit Roger Goodell or you want to credit, whoever it is,
the NFL had the foresight to be like, you know what?
We could really take this thing over.
We could take this thing over.
In fact, we could take it over to a point to where we would be doing better ratings
in our preseason than other sports are doing in their regular season.
And that's what's happening.
They're not dependent on stars.
Everybody was worried years ago, man, when Brady retires and Peyton Manning retires and all these guys retire, what's going to happen?
What do you mean?
They're a spoke on the wheel.
Next person up.
It's a revolving door.
And whoever it is, we will present them, we'll present their team, we'll present the product, the fans will get around it, and the numbers will go up.
So the fact that you see these numbers from the preseason go up the way they did,
whoever you want to credit, figure that out on your own.
I'm just telling you, the gap is widening.
The NFL's got a big lead over everybody else,
and it's not changing anytime soon.
Up next here on The Herd,
we're going to tell you about somebody who is feeling the heat in the world of football
right here on Fox Sports Radio.
