Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless. And at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garris. She can win.
Starting point is 00:01:21 She's an outsider to win the French fame. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any service. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.
Starting point is 00:01:51 Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for The Herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
Starting point is 00:02:29 You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go on a Friday. It's going to be a good one. We are ready to roll, blazing five in one hour. It's the herd. Wherever you may be, however you may be listening. We always thank you for making us, whatever platform it is, part of your day. I, you know, J. Mack, sometimes you're watching history.
Starting point is 00:03:00 and you understand it. I remember being a kid and watching Hank Aaron break Bay Bruce record with a home run, Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta. And other times you're watching history and you're not necessarily aware of it because it's not just statistics. You are watching something that really we've maybe never seen. And I felt that watching Josh Allen last night. That's where I'm going to start the show today. So if you didn't watch last night's game, the easiest way I would describe it is the team with the less talented quarterback that makes more mistakes, lost to the team that has the much more talented quarterback that makes no mistakes. The Bills last night scored 31 points and had no turnovers. Second team in league history to start the season with three straight games, 30 plus points, zero turnovers. Josh Allen, through hard work and coaching, has eliminated his only flaw.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Reckless. And what's remarkable is my entire life, I said this on the air many times. It's the one thing I didn't think coaches could mostly coach you out of. Because anybody I ever met in high school that was reckless at 17, if I saw them again 30 years later, they were reckless at 47. I always thought it was a DNA thing. I always thought it was just kind of a personality thing. reckless guy early is reckless guy at 55 years old. And it shows you how humble and also how self-aware Josh Allen is.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Since the start of last season, 48 touchdowns with Josh Allen, eight giveaways. The bills have not lost the turnover battle in a season and a half. 25 games. I mean, and he doesn't play favorites. Everybody eats nine different guys caught passes. I mean, I loved Andrew Luck, and we all love Brett Farr. You couldn't get the reckless out of them. I mean, Matt Stafford, the year he won the Super Bowl with the Rams,
Starting point is 00:05:03 did you know he led the NFL in interceptions? Eli Manning, twice beat Tom Brady, three times he led the NFL in picks. So I've always loved guys like Elway, who's aggressive, and Peyton Manning that's aggressive, but you can't eliminate the interceptions. to have this much talent and horsepower. And Josh is the biggest, strongest, best arm to have all this horsepower. And yet be willing to put on restrictor plates is insane.
Starting point is 00:05:36 You are watching history. This makes absolutely no sense. I mean, the quarterbacks that we all love, we love the gunslinger part. And then Josh Allen came into the league and he was a bit of a gunslinger. but smart enough, humble enough, self-aware enough, realizing that's not the sport. Brady and Mahomes didn't throw picks. And so Josh Allen, with all that horsepower, with that V-12 engine, it's like, now I'm going to go electric. I'm not going to do that.
Starting point is 00:06:06 So he's like similar to a prodigious home run hitter that changed his swing, doesn't hit the ball quite as far, but now doesn't strike out. 2025 Josh Allen shouldn't exist. You should not be that gifted, that fast, that talented, jump over linebackers, yet he never throws interceptions. Because usually, I mean, you know, if you have a great voice, you're singing in the car, you're singing in the shower, you may be singing professionally. You want to show it off. Usually six, six guys with that engine and that ability, I mean, they are letting it rip. Josh, you get all the upside, and you get none of the downside. I mean, listen to this.
Starting point is 00:06:48 His last 12 games, including the playoffs, 30 total touchdowns, one pick. That makes no sense. His ability to control, you know, have the discipline to not just, I'm going to let it rip, and throw it through that coverage is unbelievable. And last night, it may not be as visually impressive, but he is so mature now. He is so thoughtful. He is so paced.
Starting point is 00:07:18 But you still get the big engine. And he talked about like last night. You're like, oh, why isn't Buffalo putting them away? It's a different Buffalo team. The previous iteration of Buffalo was scoring 35 points. They couldn't beat the Chiefs. Like, it was winning a lot. It wasn't winning the games that mattered.
Starting point is 00:07:39 To win the games that matter, you can't turn it over. gonna pull back the horsepower a little bit. Here's Josh after. I think there's obviously times throughout games where the situation dictates you to maybe put the pedal down a little bit more. And there's sometimes where it's like, hey, just take it easy, relax. I wouldn't say play the long game, but just understanding where you're at, you know, within the situation of the game and not trying to force anything.
Starting point is 00:08:07 You know, we saw that tonight, just kind of staying as calm as possible. and just being prepared for any situation that we were going to be in. They look a little bit more like Philadelphia, don't they? They just kind of squeeze you, squeeze you, and squeeze you, and eventually win the turnover battle and make two or three big plays late. That doesn't mean Josh can't be a superhero. He can't put on the Cape. But he is, right now, this is a Super Bowl team.
Starting point is 00:08:34 I don't love their defense, but not every Brady team had a great defense. You remember that Nick Foles Super Bowl? I mean, not every team that gets to that game has a great defense. We all have to give a little once you pay the quarterback a lot of money. But what you're seeing now feels like a Super Bowl winning team. So smart. Horsepower, without the mistakes. So I was reading a tweet this morning from Mike Renner.
Starting point is 00:09:01 He said the tragic thing going forward for the Dolphins is that Tua's cap number is higher than Josh Allen's the next four years. I think you could, there's ways to lower that, you could, you know, you restructure it, you could cut him, whatever. But it is interesting watching Tua last night is that NFL general managers got into this weird space for about 10 years where they convinced themselves size doesn't matter for quarterbacks. From 2017 or 2012 to 2023, Russell Wilson, Johnny Mansell, to a Bryce Young, Kyler Murray. Yeah, how are they all doing? Well, what about Jalen Hertz? The Eagles throw the ball less than every team in the league.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Since the by last year, they throw even less. The organization is telling you, yeah, we don't want our smaller quarterback having to look over six, seven offensive linemen and throw. We're going to throw about 23 times a game. We're going to roll him out and throw. Even when we throw, it's not downfield now. It's a slant here, a slant there. So don't give me Jalen hurts. The Eagles have moved off him becoming a traditional pocket.
Starting point is 00:10:07 quarterback. You want to know who is winning a lot of games right now? Big Tall, Justin Herbert, and Mahomes and Alan, and Jordan Love, and Lamar Jackson and Gough, and Matt Stafford and Joe Burrell. Yes, offensive linemen now are six, seven and a half regularly. Size has always mattered. Drew Breeze is the exception. He is the outlier. He is the only small quarterback who had sustained greatness for 15 straight years. And Sean Peyton was some of that, but mostly he was the most obsessed with accuracy quarterback of my life. Drew Breeze is the outlier. Size didn't matter that much.
Starting point is 00:10:43 But when I watched two and Josh Allen, every single time I watch them, I always think the same thing. And when they play each other on the same field, yeah, I'm going to take the bigger, stronger guy. Two is smaller, doesn't have a big arm, don't want him in windy weather, you've got to protect him.
Starting point is 00:11:00 So, I mean, I guess, again, the thing that size matters in all sports, I mean, you could probably have a 6, 11 and a half jockey, but it would look weird and it doesn't feel right on that horse. I think your quarterbacks have to be about 6-2 and up. I'm sorry, I'll take the bigger, stronger guy. And by the way, two is record against winning teams in his career is 10 and 20. Those winning teams overwhelmingly have bigger, stronger quarterbacks with better arms.
Starting point is 00:11:29 So there's a reason boxing in UFC have weight categories. So it's nothing against Tua, but I think that interception he threw, he's been playing football for too long in Hawaii, at Alabama and Miami. I think that interception he threw to that linebacker, honestly, I don't think he saw him. Here's Tua on that game-sealing interception by the bills. I thought I was in rhythm, in timing of the play.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Seeing the flat defender go over the top of Jalen. Jalen's turning around. I think that was a really good play by the defender. and had some color in my face trying to maneuver the throw as well. But 10 out of 10 times, if we're looking at that same thing, I think I'd still try to work that timing of hitting that spot. And I think the linebacker made a great play on that. I don't.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I think he threw it right to him because he didn't see him. That was not a great play. It was thrown right to him. There's things I like about Tua, but don't tell me size doesn't matter. Jockey's quarterbacks. I want one small, one big. Just the way it is. J-Mack, I think one of the more interesting games this weekend, blazing 5.50 minutes from now.
Starting point is 00:12:52 I like mine picks, but I liked them last week. I think one of the more interesting games, and I think it's going to be a shootout, is the Cowboys and the Bears. It's going to be really, really entertaining because neither one of these defenses has the act together. Jalen Johnson, I think, is still out for the bears, their best corner. And when you let go of Micah, I mean, we've seen what Micah has added to the Packers. You eliminate him from the Cowboys, and you don't get as consistent the playmaking off the edge. So I am fascinated by the Cowboys and the Bears, and I've got, I've got, the Bears don't have to win.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Oh, I don't. But I will have a definitive opinion Sunday night if something doesn't happen. Yeah, I'm sure. Hey, to go back to that Tua interception real quick. I don't know if they can roll the footage, but Colin, something you didn't discuss. If you watch the right guard on that play, he gets destroyed at the line of scrimmage by 96.
Starting point is 00:13:49 Tua has zero time at all to analyze anything. He's got under a second if you watch that swim move. And so he's got to make his first read. And, of course, the lineback of Reddit. I actually, if you watch it, I don't think that plays totally on Tua. I know it's tough to defend him. And you want to go to the height.
Starting point is 00:14:06 But his offensive line has been terrible. Every year he's been in Miami. Awful. Go look at their rankings, according to Pro Football Focus. Yeah. And you really can't win without one. Well, he can't win without one. Josh Allen did not have a great offensive line.
Starting point is 00:14:20 He had a great left tackle, but Josh Allen's early old lines were not great. And by the way, Patrick Mahomes has gotten to Super Bowls with average offensive lines. Joe Burroughs got in Super Bowls with bad offensive lines. He can't. He has to have. I don't know that he can. You're saying you would consider dumping Tua, like the Russell Wilson thing in Denver. Just take the dead cap hit and move on?
Starting point is 00:14:44 Well, I think if you cut him, first of all, I think he'd have a market. Absolutely would have a market. I would put him in a dome team. I think he would have a market. I think, again, I don't think Tua is a bad quarterback, but you have to have certain things for him to be a playoff quarterback. Joe Burrell went on the road with an atrocious offensive line and was a playaway from winning a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Joe Burroughs 6.3 and a half. So there are things with a smaller quarterback. You have to have work. Josh Allen, Burrough. I mean, look at Mahomes. Mahomes gets to Super Bowls with bad receiving course, shaky offensive lines, bad left tackles and no running game. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Yeah, he's not Mahomes or Burrough. Yeah, and I think one of the truer elements is that Burroughs is different than Mahomes is different than Allen. That's different than Herbert. They're all big, strong men. Yeah. They're all big, strong men of size. The only guys I can find who have been under 6-2 to win Super Bowls, Jalen Hertz,
Starting point is 00:15:39 Russell Wilson, Drew Brees. Now, Joe Montana, depending where he's listed, 6-1, 6-2, but you're right, not a lot of them in the last 40 years. I'm not anti-smallor quarterback. Baker-Mayfield's not big. What I'm saying is this idea for a decade that it didn't matter. Yeah, it does. Bryce Young feels small.
Starting point is 00:16:02 and Kyler Murray from the pocket consistently you don't get it. And the Eagles are acknowledging with Jalen Hertz, prefer we be a run team. They're running 62% of the time. He has more push attempts than balls thrown downfield this year. And that's by design. Coming up next, what Caleb Williams does have to do against the Cowboys. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.
Starting point is 00:16:29 On Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hyhoes. Hard Radio app. Hey, it's me, Rob Parker. Starting point is 00:17:02 your podcast. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:17:14 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:17:39 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-heartedly. Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:18:38 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
Starting point is 00:19:17 breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games,
Starting point is 00:19:34 from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:19:50 And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I was telling the guys this morning, if you go on academic probation in your first college semester, You don't necessarily need all A's in your second semester, but you better improve your focus. You got to get Bs and B pluses. So this weekend, Caleb Williams does not have to beat the Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:20:13 It's not a must-win game. It is, however, a must-perform game. We can't have another great first drive followed by garbage the rest of the game. And right now, the Bears are 6 and 24 on 3rd and 4th down after the first drive. that's terrible. So Dallas's defense gave up 450 passing yards to 37-year-old Russell Wilson behind a shaky giant's O line. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:41 I said this. I've been consistent. I said this all August. I said, 9 and 8 is generous. Look at their schedule. Packers are great. Lions, Vikings could be better. Nine and eight was generous.
Starting point is 00:20:56 I said, I don't get caught up on that. Eight and nine could end. up being great because he improves. What are the things I wanted to see improvement in? What did I talk about in August? One thing, it wasn't about wins or passing yards or touchdowns. Reduction of sacks, reduction of hits, just get rid of the ball more quickly. Yeah, the problem is that hasn't happened. Because if you look at Caleb this year, take away the opening drives where he's on script, quick release. The other 20 drives. This is horrible. 54% completion percentage and a 77 passer rating.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Why? Because he's holding on the ball for 3.28 seconds. Longest, by a long shot over most of the league. Most of the league, that thing's out, 2-7. 3-3 is a long, at a half a beat. So you look at those 20 drives. That's not, I don't want to hear about it got better. I mean, I know Roma Dunzei wasn't built in a day, but they were getting better, they were making progress, they were laying bricks every day.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I got to see something because all Ben Johnson talked about in the offseason, what did he talk about? He wanted to give Caleb more structure, more timing, make it easier, and he wanted harder, more intense practices. Three weeks in, he's complaining about both. So I'm going to have a definitive judgment and opinion Sunday night 6.30 p.m. Central time if the drives after the first drive, if he's not getting rid of the ball sooner. I said this about the Steelers. I don't care that you're beating Joe Flacco. There's five games for the Steelers this year I care about.
Starting point is 00:22:49 You were 10 and 3 last year. Then down the stretch, 0 and 5 against the good quarterbacks. I don't care about the first drive. You can do that. I don't even necessarily care about the W. But I don't want to hear about this. Well, I mean, very good on the first drive. I've seen that.
Starting point is 00:23:08 You passed that test. I mean, that's starting the car and pulling out your driving test when you're 17 years old. I want to see parallel parking. I want to see in rush hour. I got to see something here. Yeah, you can start the car back. back it up and go on your way. Congrats.
Starting point is 00:23:25 I need more than that. I mean, almost every quarterback first drive is semi-successful. You pick up a couple of first downs. So this Dallas defense is not good. You're at home. Dallas is coming up an overtime game, which is always an advantage, statistically, to the team playing the team that played the overtime game.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Chiefs against the Giants, edge Chiefs. Bears against the Cowboys. edge bears, fewer snaps last week. So here's Ben Johnson on his quarterback heading into week three against Dallas. He's got total control of the field. The fact the matter is we're not going to go week one, week two, week three, all the way through 17, just like that. We're going to have some hiccups along the way. And I'm aware of that.
Starting point is 00:24:13 But his approach to the game right now is what it needs to be. He's coming in. He's doing the work. Eventually, these results will start speaking for themselves. Okay. 6.30 Central Sunday night. I got to see something now. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Because through two weeks, you're on academic probation. I got to see a little focus. I got to see a little more than tapping the keg with all the boys at seniors, Froggies. You got to give me some positives here. I need to see you studying a little bit. because you take those first two drives out. The thing we talked about all off-season was get rid of the ball. 3.28 seconds, worst in the league.
Starting point is 00:25:02 With a timing rhythm coach, with upgrades to the O line, with a very solid receiving core. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Love a good keg-tap reference on a Friday. You know, and it's perfect for the first story, Colin, because the Kansas City Chiefs fans, they will turn to drinking
Starting point is 00:25:26 if the Chiefs lose to the Giants this weekend in week three. The good news is the Giants' defense just gave up 40 to Dallas last week. Here's Mahomes on what the Chief's mentality is entering week three. Just being open two, there's more urgency than even last week. I mean, and I felt like we were very urgent last week. So definitely new territory as far as being over. too, but knowing that we got the guys for it. You know, we have the mindset of going out there and being even better.
Starting point is 00:25:53 And so in my eyes, it looks like what an opportunity. What an opportunity to prove who we are as a Kansas City cheese is coming back from O&2 and trying to build up to win a big football game on Sunday night football and try to get our season going in the right direction from there. That number to me feels large. That's why I stayed away from it. Like once in a while, the Bears Dallas game, like how is that a pick-em? That's weird.
Starting point is 00:26:17 and this game, Kansas City doesn't blow anybody out. They can't score big points. They have no run game, and the Giants have a great defensive front. I don't get the number. So it tells me Vegas sees something because I don't get this. I don't take Kansas City minus six against anybody, especially on the road. Yeah, yeah. There's just not a good football team right now.
Starting point is 00:26:35 And Patrick Mahomes is, you know, last year was the worst season of his career. He's below that to start this season, Colin. 58% completions, 6.5 yards per attempt. They have no downfield action. You know, over the weekend, you know, and the Chiefs were struggling, I posted Patrick Mahomes' stats. And I'm sure you remember the movie Black Panther? Here are the Mahomes stats on the screen.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Well, the team stats. But in the movie Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan takes down Black Panther, and he's like, is this your king? Is this your king? And I wrote that on social media. Is this your king for Patrick Mahomes? And all these Chief fans got angry. Colin, the reality right now, Patrick Mahomes is not playing at a top 10 quarterback level.
Starting point is 00:27:15 And if you go back to the Super Bowl, I know it's just three games. No. He just hasn't been good. I suggested this morning to the staff, there was almost a mutiny. I said if I was going to build a small pyramid of quarterbacks, Josh Allen over the last year to year and a half is the best quarterback in this league. Why would there be a mutiny over there?
Starting point is 00:27:33 That's just reality. Well, the people were like, whoa, and I was like, I mean, it wasn't outrage. There wasn't a strike. It wasn't a union activity. But it was, it's kind of like, well, Mahal was like, no, no, no, no. The last year and a half, Josh is the best quarterback in this league. That's not even close. Lamar's been better.
Starting point is 00:27:52 I don't think it is close. The difference is, and this knock is Josh has beaten the Chiefs several times. It's just in the regular season. Whereas Lamar, that's been, he can't get past that. And Josh has also been good in the postseason. Don't kid yourself. Josh hasn't been the issue in the postseason. Their defense has.
Starting point is 00:28:08 So my takeaway right now is Mahomes is not the best quarterback in the league. He may end up having the best career, but he's not the best quarterback in the league right now. Yeah, there were years where Tom Brady was excellent and good and they wanted to. He wasn't the best quarterback in the league. Brady was far and away the best quarterback in the league, the two primary years with Randy Moss. Yes. It wasn't close. Right.
Starting point is 00:28:27 The year he won, the Atlanta Super Bowl Edelman, I mean, again, Tom was very, very good. But that's when you started to see the emergence of a lot of young quarterbacks in the last couple years of his career, where we're like, Tom's the most profound. But the best quarterback, I mean, when Mahomes came in, we were like, okay, that's the best quarterback. So if we're so easy to do that with Mahomes and Brady at the end of Tom's career, then in the prime of Mahomes' career, why can't we say right now, Josh is better? You get more upside, fewer mistakes. Yeah, the numbers, trust the numbers over your emotions.
Starting point is 00:28:58 We know you love Patrick Mahomes, and he's a great guy, and he's a great family man, and he's won a lot of Super Bowls, but right now he's not playing good football. Look at this. Most consecutive games with fewer than 30 points. Kansas City Chiefs are in the same category as the Raiders, The Saints, the Jags, the Jets aren't even on that list. They scored 30 in week one.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Okay? So, yeah, anyways, let's move on to the big game Sunday on Fox. Rams at Philadelphia, Battle of 2-0 teams. I know that the playoff game was close last year, but we keep forgetting how Sequin had 302 yards in the regular season meeting. I think he had three carries over 70 yards in that game. Jared Verst talked about how the Rams defense has to.
Starting point is 00:29:42 to flip the script. In the first two weeks, we've limited the explosive plays by a huge amount. Obviously, Philly's a different team than any team we've faced so far. You know, everybody's just got to do their job. They're one of 11. Every now and then, you know, it might be 10 of 11, and that's when we become dangerous. Sequant's a very good back. If you don't, if everyone's on the same page, he can damage you.
Starting point is 00:30:02 Yeah, that guy is about, starting this year is about to go on a run for about a decade to be the best defensive player in the year. Oh, very good. Little hyperbole this week. Jim Harbaugh, the best coach ever. Jared Verst, best defender. Perfect quarterback. Versus really, really good. Okay?
Starting point is 00:30:23 Let's... Michael Parsons is still breathing right now, right? Have we checked on him in Green Bay? Come on. Michael Parsons is totally dominant right now, coward. By the way, still three and a half for this game. I don't get it. I don't get it.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Philadelphia is not scoring, and the Rams defense is arguably the best in the league. I don't get the number. So you know some of the... these public, hey, the public is 82% on the Texans, all that stuff. I saw one where the public is 80% on the Rams. A public dog is usually one of these. Be careful.
Starting point is 00:30:52 I know, I know. But the public last year, you know this. Last year the fans, the public beat the wise guys. Right, but that was last year. These first two weeks are getting eviscerated, Colin. They're getting destroyed. I'm on the Rams. I'm pot committed.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Go Rams. Final story, we got some breaking news. The Washington Commanders just announced Marcus Marriota will be starting this weekend Sunday 1 p.m. against the Raiders. Marcus Marriota, former... Raider. Rader. Former Chip Kelly quarterback at Oregon.
Starting point is 00:31:27 So Chip Kelly, obviously, the new OC with the Raiders. Jayden Daniels, like, we predicted this, what, Tuesday? No, I think this is a very good game. I think, obviously, you could take a touchdown away. You know, it's Washington's. not going to score in the 30s, so they're not going to be as lethal offensively. But I do think for short periods of time, defenses rise when the star quarterback is out. Now, I don't think you can do it for a month, but the Washington defense, knowing they don't have Jaden
Starting point is 00:31:56 Daniels, will probably play a very spirited football game. And I still like Washington very close. I think for a week, Washington will be fine. I don't think you can go a month without Jaden. You can go a Sunday without him. Again, for a team that's trying to find their way offensively, Gentie, Gino, protection, I still like Washington. Yeah, and remember, Marcus Marriota's had a bunch of first team reps this week because the injury was
Starting point is 00:32:20 last Thursday to Daniels. By the way, if you take out the injuries, he was physically reckless. Not necessarily throwing the ball. He was sometimes physically reckless. Marcus can play. I think he got through the playoffs with the Titans once. It's not like Marcus couldn't play. It's like Joe Flacco. There's a reason he's still hanging around.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Carson Wentz. People think he can play. So let me ask, remember how Winston and Marriota went one, two in the draft? Who would you say had the better career out of those two? Well, Winston had a lot of touchdown passes. And, come on. A lot of mistakes. Pick sixes.
Starting point is 00:32:52 He's like the career leader or whatever. It's almost a wash. I would maybe lean Marietta because I think he won a playoff game or maybe got to playoff. Marcos Marietta has a very good reputation. He's a really nice guy. People like him. It's just one of those things.
Starting point is 00:33:08 You know, we talk about this. I was talking about Ryan Fitzpatrick this morning on X. Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn't good enough to be a build-the-franchise around him. Ryan Fitzpatrick's the only quarterback in league history that had three straight games of over 400 passing yards. Like Ryan Fitzpatrick could play. He didn't have a huge arm, but he was tough, resilient.
Starting point is 00:33:26 He could throw. And he'd do Fitzmagic. Like Marcus Marriota had a lot of good performances. He was a very talented guy. I'm leaning Washington, but I got nothing on this game. I don't know. Raders are, remember, Raiders are coming off Monday night football and travel against arrested Washington team.
Starting point is 00:33:45 So there's a world where Washington beats them, it beats their brains in, but we'll see. Jamack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Lie News. Oh, we've got good stuff today. Top of the hour, blazing five.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Even J-Mack. Now, J-Mack usually doesn't see my picks before I make them, but that's not get too into the details, but J-Mack inadvertently accidentally saw my picks today, and I don't like to give out my secrets early. I don't want him stealing any of my picks. But he even J-Mack said, I like your picks this way.
Starting point is 00:34:22 We're in a lot of agreement. Usually, I think we're like 94% when we both agree on it. No, we're pretty high, no, but it's pretty good, though. Yeah. When we agree, it's pretty good. Yeah. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd, weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:34:38 And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a podcast.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:35:14 I have a very different memory of this. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
Starting point is 00:35:47 funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:36:39 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.
Starting point is 00:36:54 We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down,
Starting point is 00:37:10 give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Tomorrow, another huge day of college football is on Fox, and it all kicks off with Big Noon Saturday as Texas Tech takes on Utah. Then at 3.30 Eastern North Carolina takes on UCF followed by Arizona State versus Baylor. Finally at 11. Michigan State battles USC. It all begins with Big Noon Saturday on Fox.
Starting point is 00:37:51 So Saturday night, Jay Mackay, 10 o'clock p.m. Michigan State USC at the collie. So I have to take a nap, a huge hour and a half nap in the afternoon so I can stay up till 1.30 in the morning to watch the fourth quarter. Now, the game will be over, you know, early third quarter. But the point being is... Now, hold on. Let me reach for my violin here. It feels so bad you have to take a nap on a Saturday.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Jeez. So the Bears' Cowboys game is interesting. I will... Nobody wants to be called an elitist, but I am a quarterback elitist. First of all, we're all elitists at some level. I don't care if it's golf. Some guys don't like to golf on public courses. Some guys won't drive certain trucks.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Everybody's got something. I don't confuse elitist with standards. But I am a quarterback elitist. I like certain traits. Size, durability, big arms. I am a quarterback elitist. There are traits I like. And Dak has had a couple surgeries.
Starting point is 00:38:55 He doesn't throw the most aesthetically pleasing ball. His size, normal. It's fine. It's normal. exceptional in terms of size, athletic ability. But where DAC is great is that the Cowboys, beyond the avalanche of media coverage and scrutiny it takes to be a cowboy quarterback, starring the helmet, Des, Zeke, Jerry, Micah, now George Pickens, a lot of higher maintenance people around him. And all DAC does with three different coaches, none of which you loved
Starting point is 00:39:28 any of them. Jason Garrett, Mike McCarthy, Brian Schottenheimer, and Dak comes out every year and he's on pace to do it again to get a passer rating at about 98, 99, complete 67% of his throws, give you about 30 touchdowns, 10 picks, and win double-digit games. That's what it looks like to me. And I was thinking about this this morning, and Dak is the kid in the family that sort of gets ignored because he's never needy. He's never doing the wrong thing.
Starting point is 00:40:02 And parents pay attention to the toxic kid, the always in trouble kid, the kid that's irresponsible. Dak is the kid you make executor of the will. Dak is the responsible kid. And everybody listening to
Starting point is 00:40:17 my show on radio that is that kid in their family, you're the response. one. There's always a reality when you're the responsible kid, and it's almost never acknowledged by the other kids or even your parents. Everybody else, you accept all the burdens of people around you. And DAC accepts all of them, and once again, I watch him through two weeks, and I'm like, he'll never get credit for it. He doesn't have the arm, couple surgeries, it's not the most athletic guy. Dak has become one of
Starting point is 00:40:53 of the mentally strongest players in this league. You can throw injuries at him, the pandemic at him. I remember during the BLM stuff in America. There was a lot of controversy. You can throw Des at him, Zeke at him, Micah at him, ugly losses, the Eagle semi-dynasty. He pops up every year with a different coach and gives you the same numbers. Passer rating 98-99, complete 67%. going to win 10 plus games, 30 TDs, 10 picks. So I am a quarterback trait elitist, and I admit that. And because of that, I've never been wowed by Dak Prescott. But I'll tell you this, as he's aged, not only do I totally respect him, I'm starting to appreciate him.
Starting point is 00:41:41 I mean, I came into this season, I'm like, that is not the head coach I would have hired. And Dak looks great. again. And he's had to endure and deal with all this toxicity around him. And he's the kid that just gets good grades. You know what? Mose
Starting point is 00:42:00 the lawn. Does the stuff the parents want and gets ignored mostly because he's not toxic and he's not high maintenance. I just think he looks unbelievable through the first two weeks. I couldn't believe what I'm watching. A Troy Ackman this week on Dallas Radio on that.
Starting point is 00:42:16 I love Dak. There's nothing I'd rather see him go on and win a Super Bowl and win multiple Super Bowls and win more than me and Roger and all of us combined, if possible, because he's that type of guy and he represents himself and the organization
Starting point is 00:42:34 and really our city so well. He really does. I was thinking about this. So the bill's Josh Allen broke Patrick Mahomes' record is the fastest guy to get 300 career touchdowns. And stay with me on this four or five minutes story,
Starting point is 00:42:52 but he's becoming a little bit, Josh Allen, the Leonardo DiCaprio of 2016. So we all knew DeCaprio was great. He was an all-timer. And we all know Josh is an all-timer. But it wasn't until, you know, like the Revenant, until Hollywood said,
Starting point is 00:43:07 okay, you get the Oscar. And that's Josh Allen. He now has a running game. He now has three. legitimate tight ends. He no longer jumps over linebackers. And my hunch is
Starting point is 00:43:23 despite all the stats early, Super Bowl 60 this year will be his revenant. It will be his moment. Leonardo DiCaprio, by the way, he didn't win an Oscar, but he was carrying the Titanic. He was carrying Wolf of Wall Street. He was jumping
Starting point is 00:43:39 over linebackers. Catch me if you can. Very Leonardo DeCate. Caprio-centric. But it wasn't ironically until he talked less that Hollywood finally
Starting point is 00:43:55 said, he's the best actor in the world. It wasn't until Revenant. And we were all in awe of Leonardo DiCaprio, jumping over linebackers, Wolfo Wall Street, Titan. We were in awe of him. But at the end,
Starting point is 00:44:14 where's trophy. And we were similarly in awe of Josh Allen. 400-yard games, literally outrunning safeties, running over people, jumping over people. He didn't do that as much anymore. So my Super Bowl prediction,
Starting point is 00:44:30 on February 8th, Josh Allen, J-Mack, will officially become Leonardo DiCaprio in Revenant. Here is Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:44:47 on improving to 3-0. We're obviously doing our job, going 1-0 each week. Still a lot to learn from and a lot to grow. A lot of room for growth in this group. A lot of young guys. But guys are stepping up. There's been some guys down with injuries, and guys are stepping up and making some big-time plays for us,
Starting point is 00:45:06 especially on the defensive side of the ball. Yeah, I mean, it's a close unit that's jowling together really well right now, and I've got to keep fine ways to win football games. You know, I was thinking about this. How lucky is the NFL? And the NFL doesn't get credit for this. Dads get credit for this. Parents get credit for this.
Starting point is 00:45:27 And the players do. Think of the best quarterbacks in the league right now. Like Lamar Jackson, Mahomes, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Jalen Hertz, Joe Burrow. Just think of the top quarterbacks in the league. They're all great guys. Like, they're humble. I mean, these guys are worth $3 and $400 million. They're in their 20s.
Starting point is 00:45:52 I mean, guys on Bitcoin that are still renting are unlikable. Yeah, on the Internet. Follow X for five minutes after a good Bitcoin day. I mean, these guys are worth hundreds of millions. They're stars. Could Josh Allen be more likable or Jalen Hertz or Dak Prescott? It's unbelievable. The NFL superstar players are such likable, relatable, cool guys.
Starting point is 00:46:15 Congrats to the kids, congrats to the parents, mom or dad or both. But when I watch Josh Allen, I'm like, can you imagine being this rich? You seen his wife? Having this much talent
Starting point is 00:46:26 and like being coachable, reflective, smart, and as I just said, the Revenant as of February 8th. So I watch them and I watch
Starting point is 00:46:40 one of the things about Josh Allen. He doesn't jump over linebackers like he used to. But when you play this way and you don't turn the ball over, that was always a little bit of Aaron Rogers and Mahom's secret sauce. I get all the upside. I don't get any of the downside. Manning through picks, Elway's through picks, Montana threw him, Namath through him.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Brady threw some, not many. But it was like Mahomes and Aaron Rogers. It's like, man, you get 35 touchdowns. You get like six picks. I mean, for Josh Allen to not, I mean, in his, what was that thing, the last 12 games, 30 touchdowns, one pick? I mean, he only, and here's the earth thing. They've got nice weapons.
Starting point is 00:47:20 Everybody ate. They got nine guys touched the ball. They have three good tight ends. James Cook. I read only one time all night that they attempt a pass over 10 yards. Remember we thought Stefan Diggs was the answer. Oh, we're going to throw downtown. We're going to be a big playoffense.
Starting point is 00:47:36 And with Josh Allen, they were like, no, no, no, no, no. No, we're not going to do that. We're not going to throw downtown as much. We're going to have tight ends, a good run game. You know, guys in the slot, we can get the ball to, too. And then Josh has to peel off a great run about three to four times a game. Yeah, last 12 games, including the playoffs. 3,000 yards, 30 touchdowns and a pick.
Starting point is 00:47:57 I just hope everybody gets, what a good guy, what a story. You're watching history. Sometimes it's obvious. Like sometimes, oh, you broke the all-time blank record. This is history. Like, what you're watching here doesn't happen. You may never see 30 touchdowns one pick in a 12-game stretch. ever in what's considered the better conference, the AFC.
Starting point is 00:48:20 All right, around the corner, J. Mack got a sneak peek. You may be changing his pets. Little NVI I sense, the Blazing Five. Top of hour two and a Friday. I can't wait. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:48:45 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed. First people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:49:05 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL. Michael's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform?
Starting point is 00:49:25 We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless.
