Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was harmed. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:03 Therapy is fantastic, but once again, it does not have a monopoly on healing. That's why I create the resources and that's why I create the community because I really just want you to have more access. On the podcast, Cultivating Her Space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. It's tough because we're suppressing our emotions and so many of us are like high-achieving individuals. Listen to Cultivating Her Space on the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Every family has its secrets. But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life? That is not the look of an innocent man. Is everyone lying to me about who they are? I felt such desperation. I felt it was what I had to do. Listen to Deep Cover the Family Man.
Starting point is 00:01:56 On the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio and noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Fox Sports Radio. Here we go. It is Tuesday. We are live in Chicago. ago, it's the herd. Wherever you may be, and however you may be listening or watching, thanks for making us part of your day. Nick Wright one hour, Alexei Lawless, 100 days out from the World Cup here in the States. So 14,500 people is a lot of people to have in a survey.
Starting point is 00:02:56 All 50 states, the Athletic Today survey of 14,500 sports fans, and they asked them about baseball. Are you enthusiastic, hopeful, indifferent, disappointed, upset? And 4% of people are upset. They'd be upset if it was 74 in blue skies tomorrow. There's just a small percentage of very cranky people who aren't happy unless they're unhappy. But the remarkable thing about the survey is 67% of baseball fans today are enthusiastic and hopeful. that is triple when this survey was done in 2022.
Starting point is 00:03:39 They don't do it every year. So before the Dodgers dynasty was created, the sport gave American sports fans an entirely different vibe. They are more enthusiastic as the Dodgers feel like they're pulling away. Should be noted that Dodgers needed seven games to win the World Series over a Canadian team and were mostly outplayed for the World Series. Dodgers also lead in road attendance. So even if they're not your stars,
Starting point is 00:04:12 you like paying to watch the Dodgers. Second in road attendance, the playoff, Chicago Cubs, a very big brand who have elevated and added to their roster, they should be better next year. So the Cubs and the Dodgers are winning a lot and everybody is almost entirely happier, three times more happy, than three years ago.
Starting point is 00:04:34 So what's hurting baseball and what hurts any store, any industry is lousy. What hurts baseball is the A's and the Marlins and the white socks and the cruddy Cardinals and the pirates. You put those products in the store. That hurts the store. The store's never hurt with the best bakery in town or the best produce in town. And the Dodgers are an All-Star team. and what this, I mean, you can't let Cincinnati and St. Louis economies limit everybody else. That's a Mondami feel.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Like there's a bottom 10% of everything. But not getting in the way. And baseball's improved for a couple reasons. Number one, they made necessary changes, universal D.H., pitch clock, defensive shift. They made necessary changes that I wish, for the record, the NBA would do. And they have not gotten in the way. of great. They have not gotten in the way.
Starting point is 00:05:35 I mean, think about it. If you had a salary cap, it's not like suddenly the Cardinals would have all this money or players would want to play in Cincinnati. Let them go where they want to go. They want to go to the Mets and the Padres. Right now you have like seven excellent teams. One in Canada.
Starting point is 00:05:51 The Blue Jays, the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Astros if they're healthy, the Brewers, the Mariners were great. The Phillies, the Padres. Atlanta should be better. And for the record, in the last 10 years, half of the sport has at least gotten to a World Series, proving if you're well run, you will get there. But I think a lot of the negative discussion about the Dodgers is jealousy, number one. But it's also this fatalistic nature to society.
Starting point is 00:06:21 Like I've been hearing for the last month, sports, section, sports, journalism is dead. Well, that's funny because I read the athletic for at least 45. minutes a day and I see sports journalism all the time. I hear it with Pablo Torre's podcast. I read it all day on substack. I see it with Jeremy Fowler and others at ESPN. I see sports journalism everywhere as much as I've ever seen. Well, what about local sports pages? They've been circling the drain since the late 90s because of Craigslist. I can remember a decade or so ago going to Birmingham, Michigan, opening up the Detroit Free Press, a legendary paper, and it had the depth of a in-and-out burger menu. It was like seven items, onto obituaries. Local sports
Starting point is 00:07:08 sections have been dying forever. Doesn't mean all sports journalism is dead. I mean, I hear about these fatalists with college sports. I'm watching college basketball this year. Michigan's great, Duke's great, Carolina, Arizona, Florida, I don't know, Yukon, Gonzaga. It's all the blue bloods. They're all good. Where's the problem? I'm watching college football. All the college ratings up, up, revenue, up, attendance, up. Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas, Miami. Where's the NIL problem? There's just fatalists everywhere.
Starting point is 00:07:47 And my take on the Dodgers have been, sure, there's going to be envy, but they lead baseball and road attendants in the Cubs are second. I think the Yankees are third. I mean, if I own, you know, remember, streamers and TV networks don't have an obligation. to televise everybody. They generally televised my entire life since I was a kid, the top eight or nine teams. When I was a kid growing up in the 70s,
Starting point is 00:08:08 you know who was on all the time? The Cincinnati Reds with Johnny Bench and Pete Roes and the Dodgers with the Garvey and the Lopes and Ron Say and Bill Russell and Tommy Lasota. And that was late 70s and 80s or thereabouts. And then it was the Pittsburgh Pirates had Dave Parker and Willie Stardjold and Phillies had Mike Schitt, excuse me, and Greg Luzinski.
Starting point is 00:08:31 And it was all the same teams. I didn't ever see the Milwaukee Brewers and the Minnesota Twins on TV. Networks back in the 70s and 80s. Phillies and the pirates. You know, the Dodgers and the Reds and the Royals had Brett Saberhagen and Amos Otis and Freddie Pottech.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Take a deep breath. Sports journalism isn't entirely dead. The platforms have changed that comes from different areas. and baseball's fine because if you are a big market Philadelphia, the product's great. Toronto, Yankees, Dodgers,
Starting point is 00:09:09 Astros of Healthy, Padres, they're putting a good product on television. I'll take like eight stacked rosters and not worry about the bottom 8% of the sport or bottom 12%. For the record, the guardians were good,
Starting point is 00:09:25 the brewers are excellent, the mariners were excellent, those are considered like small market teams. It's hard for me from the Northwest. I think of Seattle, a small market. That feels kind of big to me in Microsoft and Starbucks and downtown in the waterfront. But, you know, in baseball, maybe it is. But here's Dave Roberts, Dodger manager.
Starting point is 00:09:43 And if the Dodgers product, if it's bad for baseball. You know, you always have to have somebody that teams and fans, you know, enjoy disliking. And that's good for sports. I was one of those guys that didn't like the Yankees, but saw their value with the sports. I think scouting and played with them, I think we'd do as good as anyone in baseball of that. To get superstars to play well every night,
Starting point is 00:10:14 to put out a good product every single night, I think we'd do a good job at that. Yeah, just fine. Lead the sport in road attendance, Cub second. Yankees up there. Better the product, the more good products, the more stacked rosters. the better it is. Okay, so I like Rich Paul, LeBron's agent, interesting guy. He's a very powerful guy
Starting point is 00:10:36 in the NBA. But we showed you a video yesterday of Luca and J.J. Reddick, Saturday night against the Warriors, having a confrontation on the sideline. And J.J. Reddick tried to talk to him. Luca blew him off. A Reddick chased him down the bench, grabbed his arm, sat there and kind of got into his grill. And it was pretty clearly a confrontation. And J.J. Reddick wasn't letting him walk by him and blow him off. He came down, looked him in the eye, did some barking. And then left.
Starting point is 00:11:09 And then Luca got up and Danderbilt jumps in the middle. Rich Paul says, that is very healthy for the relationship. Here he is. That leads to a healthy relationship. because that means that there's a profound respect for the player and there should be a profound respect for the coach. And I think it ultimately leads to a healthy relationship. When things happen in such a media robust environment
Starting point is 00:11:41 that we're looking for the drama of it all and we want to talk about the drama of it all. But the reality of it is, hey, these guys are getting paid a lot of money to do a high-level job. Yeah, totally disagree. NBA is a star-driven league. KD. got his feelings hurt. Left, Golden State.
Starting point is 00:12:04 LeBron didn't like David Black. David Black got fired. LeBron had his issues with Spoe, a great coach. He left Miami and didn't even give Bosch and DeWay a heads up. Magic and Paul Westhead famously didn't get along. Magic got him fired. Rick Carlisle didn't see him. eye to eye with Luca's lack of defensive effort. Rick Carlisle was excused. This is a star-driven league.
Starting point is 00:12:29 It's totally different in football. Andy Reed and Travis Kelsey can go chest to chest. And Jeff Saturday and Peyton Manning can scream at each other and Josh McDaniels and Tom Brady can scream at each other and Ben Johnson could be ticked off at Caleb Williams and Sean Peyton and Bo Nicks on the sideline are barking at each other and it's fine in football because football's not star-driven. The football culture doesn't pander. The football culture, you can get cut. The coach has power too. So does the general manager. You need each other. You're not making $22 million a year on shoes and sports apparel. And the reality is there are no guaranteed contracts and accountability is really important in football. The basketball culture is get drafted at
Starting point is 00:13:20 sign your Supermax at 23. And if you don't like the coach, he's Seacrest out. That's the basketball culture. So J.J. Redick and Luca are not necessarily built to be best friends. J.J. Reddick was known as a grinder, an intense grinder as a player. Luca, it made headlines this summer when he actually worked out. Hey, have you heard pro athlete jogging? I mean, they're not the same cat.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Luca is gifted at 13 years old. Things come easy for him. J.J. Redick was a grinder in the NBA. And remember this, five of the last seven coach of the year awards in the NBA? Five of the last seven. Five of the last seven aren't coaching the team they won the award for. It is a player league. So if there's animosity, this ownership group,
Starting point is 00:14:18 did not hire JJ Reddick. And when JJ Reddick got the job, what was the headline? Quote, LeBron's buddy gets the head coaching job. I'm not sure how long LeBron's in town, meaning his buddy could be in trouble. So I don't buy the, oh, you know, it's a high paid guy. Our football culture is different. I mean, teammates come to blows during practice in football. football is about accountability.
Starting point is 00:14:49 You can get cut. There's less guarantees. You're not worshipped at 13. In fact, half of the players on the NFL rosters were undrafted. They're late blooms, late developers. Their bodies take a while to rev up and catch up,
Starting point is 00:15:03 you know, and that's not NBA. At NBA, you can spot the talent by 14, 15, 16 years old. I mean, Luca is playing for Real Madrid at 16. Tom Brady at 16 You know At 16 years old
Starting point is 00:15:20 Like you have your first crush A lot of parents don't like to let their kids play Until they're like 15 in football So I don't buy that it's just Kumbaya, it's just the way it is I mean again, I'm not saying it's the end of the world But don't confuse basketball culture When LeBron was blowing off Spoe
Starting point is 00:15:41 When he got to Miami, there's a lot of pieces of I remember going to a couple of games, and a lot of times LeBron and Spoh did not see eye to eye. LeBron left Pat Riley and Eric Spolstra to go back to Cleveland. Some of that was, LeBron wanted his way, and he was the best player in the world. But, you know, I don't think it's all just fine. J. Mack, pretty convincing argument by me, you'd have to admit. You patting yourself on the back there.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Listen, I think it's actually a decent argument. don't hate it, Colin. And I think it leads to why the basketball culture in America is so dominant among all the sports. That's why young people follow on social media. They love their athletes in the NBA. They're more popular than NFL, Major League Baseball. All the numbers bear it out. It's an individual sport. Exactly. And they think the basketball players are badasses. LeBron's dunking on someone. Luke is talking smack to his coach. He's not taking that garbage. Like, there's, I know football players are tough, you know, because they're rugged and beat each other. The culture is just different. Yeah, the culture in the NBA is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And I think that's why young people in America gravitate toward it. You go on a basketball courts. Yeah, you go to some Chicago basketball courts today. You see a lot of Lucas stepbacks, a lot of LeBron dunking, a lot of jaw jacking. You don't get pick up football games. It just doesn't really happen. Yeah. Interesting stuff today.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Remarkably, as we get ready for free agency in a week, I think it's a week out starting tomorrow, there is one player who apparently has no market. And I am shocked by it. Next, it's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington from the odd couple on Fox Sports Radio. And in addition to hearing us live weeknights from 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:17:39 we are excited to announce brand new YouTube channel for the show. That's right. You can now watch the Odd Couple live on YouTube every day. All you got to do, search Odd Couple FSR on YouTube. Again, YouTube, just search Odd Couple FSR. Check us out on YouTube and subscribe. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:18:02 We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:18:38 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. and finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us
Starting point is 00:19:36 on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends, stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:19:58 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous. That's right. The very funny, Will Ferrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean,
Starting point is 00:20:23 for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt? Maybe not.
Starting point is 00:20:42 I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why? If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What would you eat if you had to start? Startover. Real simple, poor man's, poor woman's food. Black beans, chicken, rice, plantains. Yeah. That's all, that's poor people's food, man. But being Nigerian, that's, come on, a go-to.
Starting point is 00:21:26 On the podcast eating while broke, I sit down with celebrities, entrepreneurs, and creators, as they revisit the meals they once relied on in the moments that shaped their journey. Named Best Food Podcasts at the 2006 IHeart Podcast Awards, This show is all about real conversations on money, growth, and what it really takes to make it. It was times where me and Lex were, like, definitely getting into it. Because we're not making any money. Like, I need to start making money. Like, why are we doing this?
Starting point is 00:21:53 But I don't know. I think we just always knew that we had something really good. And eventually people were going to catch on. And so we just thugged it out. The full season is available to binge. Right now. Listen to Eating While Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Per the athletic, that's almost like this is journalism, there is no current market in a league desperate for quarterbacks, there's no current marker for backup Mac Jones in San Francisco. So there's a market for small, injury prone, and expensive Kyler Murray and Tua.
Starting point is 00:22:40 There is reportedly, more journalism, a market for Anthony Richardson, who can't consistently complete underneath throws, drag routes, and screen passes. There's a market for Gino Smith, a turnover machine, Jimmy Garoppolo, who hasn't played in years, and Philip Rivers, who was on a couch for half a decade. And is athletic, as athletic as the microphone I'm talking into. Philip Rivers had a market. Mack Jones has none. He's 27. he was second in the NFL and completion percentage last year.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Young, accurate, inexpensive, seasoned. You know what this is? This is the ultimate insider respect to Kyle Shanahan. Kyler Murray Garoppolo, Gino Smith, Anthony Richardson, and Philip Rivers have markets. And Mack Jones wouldn't work with Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota, or Shane Steichen? I mean, Colts have a good own line. Jonathan Taylor at running back.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Ample weapons. Offensive coach. Mack Jones wouldn't work there? I mean, I am, I mean, this is people inside the league paying respect to Kyle Shanahan. So, I mean, if I, if there were five quarterbacks, draft and free agency or trades that I would take that I think of the five best on the market, Fernando Mendoza is absolutely number one. He'd be my number one. I would say Mac Jones would be by two because he is so inexpensive. I think Malik Willis, despite the scarcity of starts, is a really interesting addition.
Starting point is 00:24:28 I'd go Ty Simpson, sit in for a year, and then Aaron Rogers is cheap. So if there was a fab five of available quarterbacks. I'd have, I mean, Mac Jones may want to raise eventually, but I mean, seasoned, young. Also, Sam Darnold spent, you know, some time sitting on the bench behind Brock Purdy with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. He reemerged in Minnesota and crushed it. Now, I think Mac Jones is a pretty heady kid.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I think playing behind Mac Jones, Brock Purdy, playing with that ecosystem with Kyle Shanahan, getting a handful of starts. What do you get? Five and three and eight starts? I mean, this is Mack Jones during Combine Week on his current aspirations. I learned so much this year, and I've obviously been coached by some great coaches.
Starting point is 00:25:23 And I know a lot, and I've learned a lot, but I really learned a lot this year. It's definitely motivating for me. I feel like I can get back and do that. And I have my swag back, and I feel like that's important to me. And I can go out there and win games for whoever. Rick. Yeah, the, I mean, listen, I think I think Shanahan's great, but the first thing Mac Jones said is, boy, I learned a lot. You go talk to Sam Darnold about his year, too, and however long he was in San Francisco, I think it was a year. He talks about, I learned so much from Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan. So, I mean, I, I, I just am, I, I mean, again, I'm not saying it's Fernando Mendoza, and I'm not saying he's as talented, even as an old Aaron Rogers. But the
Starting point is 00:26:04 price tag, a draft pick. I mean, the Colts gave up two first rounders for a corner who didn't finish last year because it was banged up. I cannot believe a Kevin O'Connell or a Shane Steichen isn't interested at all, but real journalism. I thought it was all, I thought it all dried up. The athletic reporting, there's no market. J-MAC with the news.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Journalist, J-Mack. Well, there was a market. for Brise Hall, but the Jets locked him up with the franchise tag, baby. One year tender worth just over 14 milly for the young star out of Iowa State. New York has until July 15th to work out a long-term deal. I don't know if a long-term deal makes sense for Hall because we don't know what they're,
Starting point is 00:26:54 like he doesn't know who their quarterback is, you know? Breast Hall wants to play for a winner, he can. That guy's really special. He's certainly a top 10 back in the league. obviously he has to stay healthy. I had a couple fumbling issues, but overall, in terms of just pop, he's got it. Kids got juice.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Yeah, he does. I won't deny that. Best running back in New York, would you say? Or Cam Scadaboo? Or James Cook? They're stylistically, they're totally different. Totally different players. Breece Hall's got, you know, one's a power back, one's more shifty.
Starting point is 00:27:25 You know, they're different players. Yeah. All right, let's move on to another New York team. The real dumpster fire in New York, and that's the Giants. They did get John. John Harbour to try to drag them out of the cellar. And everybody's excited for his pairing with Jackson Dart. Listen to Jackson Dart speak glowingly about playing for John Harbour.
Starting point is 00:27:44 He loves the way that I play the game. And I think that that was one thing that kind of, you know, drawn our relationship from a competitive standpoint. Like, he knows how much, you know, I love the sport, you know, how passion I am to go out there and compete at a high level. And he's the exact same way. So I can't wait to play for a coach like him who instills. like a relentless mindset from his coaching staff to his players to the whole organization.
Starting point is 00:28:08 So, you know, he's kind of just the general. Very good vibes around the New York Giants. Big Blue is about to reemerge. Right now this morning, I've got them winning the NFC East, Philadelphia 2nd. Stop, a couple. Is that real? You're going on record with that. Tell the team to put that on social media. Let's see the reaction.
Starting point is 00:28:30 No, I think I... Win the NFC East. Yeah. I'll take the other side of that bet. Can we get that on one of these prediction markets so I can make a fortune? I mean, Colin, seriously, win the NFC East. Let me just remind you of Jackson Dart's record last year. Four and eight, 15 tutties, five picks, sacked 35 times.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Well, they're going to draft a right tackle probably with their first pick. Okay. So they're going to solve their own line. Neighbors comes back. So does Scataboo. They've got plenty of, you know, and Jackson Dart now gets a better coach. and he gets a second ear. Listen, you know there's going to...
Starting point is 00:29:05 I thought we loved Brian Dable. I thought Brian Dable was a great offensive mind. I think Brian Dable did a good job, but John Harbaugh's resume is much more impressive. What do you love about the resume? All the double-digit leads that were blown by John Harbaugh? I mean, that's a thing. I don't know if you'll have many of those.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Wow, you got them winning the division? I do. I have the New York Giants winning their division. Listen, we know, I mean, Drake May gets Mike Vrabel. I made the same assertion last year. New England's going to be a 10-win team. Everybody freaked out. I made the same assertion with Washington two years ago and the Rams three years ago.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Somebody's going to win a division and shock people. The New York Giants winning that division is my pick today. That would be a shock. And I think have a better staff than Philadelphia. I think they're going to catch up to some degree in their roster, which I still think is decent. I think they have a decent roster. Sun comes out in Chicago. You get all giddy and excited firing off predictions.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Final story, Colin, let's get excited. The World Cup begins exactly 100 days from today. Remember the opening match on June 11th, Mexico versus South Africa, 100 days away. Obviously, the day after that, the USA faces Paraguay in the first World Cup on our soil since 1994. The crowds and the ratings are going to be absolutely the blow away any World Cup domestic. ratings, revenue we've ever had. It's going to be incredible. So I usually say March Madness is the highlight of every year, the best month. Oh, this will blow it away. Not in a World Cup year. Yeah, the World Cup clearly trumps that.
Starting point is 00:30:40 I mean, listen, June and July can be slow in sports. Not this year. There's going to be so much content, so many good matches. I think the USA, like, your hot take is the New York Giants winning the division. I'm telling you, I see USA getting to like quarterfinals, maybe semifinals. Well, I got to see how it shakes out, but I really like their chances, Colin. And you got to monitor injuries coming up. We just saw Brazil suffer a huge injury today. They announced one of their stars is going to miss. USA so far healthy.
Starting point is 00:31:08 There's the USA lineup, Paraguay on June 12th. We got a very, I would say, favorable group. Yeah. And your boy may be going to two of those matches. So, you know, I might have a little World Cup cold as we get closer to... World Cup influenza. Yes, there it is. J. Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News. Man, I'm looking at some of this. I'm looking at some journalism today. Excellent. Mike Sandoz got some journalism. Boy, there's just journalism everywhere.
Starting point is 00:31:41 So I saw this story. Max Crosby trade rumors, Dallas Cowboys. So if Max Crosby gets added to Dallas, plus you'd have to give up a first round pick. Plus, let's say they get a Caleb down. or the top corner in the draft, that's a different defense. So when they traded Micah Parsons, I said, Green Bay is going to win the trade initially,
Starting point is 00:32:07 just like when Shaq left the Lakers. Whenever there's a big sports divorce or a divorce in real life with relationships, it doesn't mean there's not pain for somebody or both people involved. Like Paul George bails on OKC, he had hurt for a year. And Shaq left the Lakers. They had to make a choice. Yeah, it hurt for a year.
Starting point is 00:32:29 And Micah left the Cowboys. Yeah, but they got Kenny Clark directly because of the trade. And they got Quinn and Williams indirectly with one of the draft picks from the trade. And now you add Max Crosby in a first round corner overshone. Yeah, that's a different defense. So, you know, you have to be careful about trades. Green Bay, just like the Miami Heat was Shaq, Green Bay was going to win that trade first year.
Starting point is 00:32:59 You got to eat a dirt sandwich. It's going to look bad. But the point of it was, first round picks, which you could use and leverage for other players. So Kenny Clark, Quinn and Williams, overshone, Max Crosby, that is a real front. That is an elite front. I would make the move.
Starting point is 00:33:19 And I also tend to think that Max is better than Micah Parsons. Since he entered the league, Max Crosby leads the NFL in tackles for losses, not Miles Garrett, not Micah Parsons. Also, Crosby's a top six edge rusher against the run. Micah Parsons, very, you know, 18, 19, 20, middle of the pack. So I think Max's a better player. I also think because they often play with leads and have a high-powered ecosystem offensively, that Michael was a great get for Green Bay. Green Bay is not a market that does well in free agency.
Starting point is 00:33:56 It's not that attractive to a lot of pro athletes. So Green Bay is like, we're going to make a big trade and go get a difference making edge rusher. I thought it was a great move by Green Bay and they were going to win it the first year. I didn't know Micah would get hurt. But Max is better. Like if you say to yourself, well, why would you go get Max? You had Micah. Max is better.
Starting point is 00:34:17 And because of the deal for, you know, the Micah deal. you used assets to directly or indirectly solve your interior D-line, which was trashed while you had Mika. That's why your defense was so bad with Mika. So, and just to give you some sense, and I'm not anti-MICA, but my scouts always said the same thing. Kind of a splash player, not very good against the run, at times against the top tackles can disappear. And, you know, Albert Breer reported this last year, whereas C.D. Lamb and D. Jack and Zach and Zach Martin were loved in the cowboy locker room. Micah turned some people off, a little distracted, a little bit of ego, whatever.
Starting point is 00:35:01 No reason to pick on him, but that's just been reported. But I had Rahim Mostert yesterday on the show. He played with Fred Warner, Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Tyreek Hill, and yet he said Max Crosby was the best player he ever played with. he's played however many snaps you know in the in the past several seasons dude does not come off the field and you got to respect a guy like that you know he can he can go out there with a broken knee at torn ACL whatever and and still put it up put his body out there on the line like you know he there's no tomorrow max crosbie is the ultimate competitor man and he's he wants to win and i love it
Starting point is 00:35:48 man he he boosts everybody up there around him yeah so i you can say what you want It doesn't make sense. You had Micah. Why would you get Max? Max is better. You were able to, by proxy or indirectly, get Quentin Williams and Kenny Clark. You've got a first round pick, even if you get Max.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Max Crosby, Caleb Downs, Quinnin Williams, Kenny Clark, overshone. Yeah, that's a real defense. Yeah, that would be a real defense. Nick Wright, top of the hour. Coach K is saying something about one of those Duke stars, and he's absolutely right. And Jonathan Cominga, did the Warriors make a big mistake letting him go? We say it all the time. Insurance companies are not in the business of writing you a big check.
Starting point is 00:36:38 That's why they hire armies of lawyers, attorneys, and all that stuff is in legal jargon. Ever notice that with your insurance policies, your home life, auto, whatever it is? Well, that's for confusion, not for clarity. Right. Buried and all that fine print are coverage gaps and loopholes. Scary truth is you think you're covered? You don't actually know. Most people don't.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Check out my policy advocate. Takes five minutes. Check out the platform. Upload your home policy, your life insurance policy, your auto policy. Breaks them all down in plain England. Are you covered? Are you exposed? Where can your insurance company deny you?
Starting point is 00:37:19 Five minutes? 27 cents a day all it costs. My Policy Advocate.com. Don't leave it the chance. You hope you never have to use your insurance. You hope. But crossing your fingers doesn't get it done. My Policy Advocate.com.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast?
Starting point is 00:37:55 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:38:29 And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luke. and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:39:06 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:39:26 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:39:46 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous. That's right. The very funny Will Ferrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to
Starting point is 00:40:10 the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt? Maybe not.
Starting point is 00:40:28 I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops. By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why? If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk.
Starting point is 00:40:49 Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What would you eat if you had to start? Start over. Real simple, poor man's, poor woman's food. Black beans, chicken, rice, plantains. Yeah. That's always, that's poor people's food, man. But being Nigerian, that's, come on, a go-to.
Starting point is 00:41:11 On the podcast eating while broke, I sit down with celebrities, entrepreneurs, and creators as they revisit the meals they once relied on in the moments that shaped their journey. Named Best Food Podcasts at the 2006 IHeart Podcast Awards, This show is all about real conversations on money, growth, and what it really takes to make it. It was times where me and Lexa definitely get into it because we're not making any money. Like, I need to start making money. Like, why are we doing this? But I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:39 I think we just always knew that we had something really good. And eventually people were going to catch on. And so we just thugged it out. The full season is available to binge right now. Listen to Eating While Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast. or wherever you get your podcast. The stage is set for a weekend where IndyCar and NASCAR go back to back on one track. IndyCar on Saturday, NASCAR on Sunday from Phoenix Raceway.
Starting point is 00:42:10 It's the Desert Double on Fox and FS1. Listen, the Warriors admittedly had a Jonathan Kaminga problem, and they actually had a young player problem. Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, none of them worked. Cominga and Poole were productive, but they really didn't play well with Steph Curry and Draymond Green. They didn't play well.
Starting point is 00:42:34 So Cminga, the new CBA, the Warriors are like, listen, if we keep Cominga, we got a second big contract in a couple of years. It's going to be 100 plus million, and we just don't see him as that guy. There were a lot of DNPs, especially against good teams. And so the Warriors have all sorts of smart people, and they're like, eh, we're going to move him,
Starting point is 00:42:51 and they send him to Atlanta, and now Atlanta's going crazy. Wow. You see what he did Sunday night against the Blazers. I mean, he is dominated in two games, the Wizards. So there's two types of guys in the NBA that average like 20 plus a game. There's legitimate game altering stars. And then they're like guys who are just long run the floor, twitchy and athletic, but they're not winning players.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Kaminga is super athletic. But in 34 playoff games with the Warriors, he averaged seven points. he is not what I would call a winning player. He falls into that kind of flashy athletic sort of John Morant, Zach Levine, Zion, and I'm not anti-athletic guy, but the NBA is full of guys who are athletic and can give you 20, but I'll take Cade Cunningham, who's kind of grounded, not flashy, and delivers. So there's a lot of talk now.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Kaminga. Kaminga's given us windmill dunks for years. He doesn't want to rebound. Rebound's hard. He doesn't shoot threes, wildly inconsistent offensively. So, you know, there's a lot of pushback on, well, I mean, listen, the NBA has got a ton of talent. Jonathan Caming is talented. It's a global sport.
Starting point is 00:44:08 The NFL's not. There's a ton of talent. And there's a million guys out there that can give you 22 points a game. But Golden State had him for four and a half years and never trusted him in a big spot. And there are two types. of guys that can give you 20-20 to a game, the guys that alter the outcome and guys who are just long run the floor well,
Starting point is 00:44:33 you know, they've got some athletic gifts, don't necessarily, they work hard, but do you trust them in a big spot to get a bucket? They never did in Golden State. Okay, so, and speaking of flashy and not flashy, I understand, listen, my first player I loved in pro basketball was Dr. J. In fact, I have a podcast with him later today.
Starting point is 00:44:54 I love Dr. Jay. I like Flash. I love Michael Jordan. A Magic Johnson was Flash. Larry Bird out a little bit. I like flashy players. But it is easy because I've said this before about basketball. Basketball is the one sport in America that you wear your favorite player.
Starting point is 00:45:12 So your favorite player could be Westbrook and he didn't have great handles. He's not much of a shooter, but he's wildly athletic. And you got his shoes. And so you love him. And, you know, you could have John Wall's shoes. and you love him when he was playing. But the reality is you have to be careful about that. And we're going into an NBA draft where there's a couple of sensational players,
Starting point is 00:45:32 one for BYU and one for Kansas, and they can jump out of the gym. It's all sorts of dunks. And then there's this kid who dad played in the NBA who's much more grounded, who's not vertical, great feet, great hands. His name is Cam Boozer, and Mike Schochevsky said this about him. to me it's not close. This kid is so dependable, so poised. He's had really as good a year as any freshman that has played here.
Starting point is 00:46:09 We have a lot of, a lot of them. I'm not saying who's the best one or whatever. He's up there. I'll get in trouble. But he's had as good a year as any freshman that's, ever played here. I mean, that is saying something at Duke. And what I love about Boozer, his dad was a smart player.
Starting point is 00:46:30 He's a smart player, great feet, great hands, but he's more grounded. And for the record, Cade Cunningham is grounded. Cade Cunningham is physical, dependable, intangibles, intangibles, plus intangibles, but in this draft, Boozer is seen as low ceiling guy. and it's like Reed Shepard for Houston. There's a lot of guys in the league con canipal. There's a lot of guys that don't have 48 inch verticals, but they're like winning basketball players.
Starting point is 00:47:02 And so in this draft, he's undoubtedly going to go third or fourth. But I could see Darren Peterson, who's struggling to play on a regular basis, struggling. They're saying right now the game's gotten into his head. So it's just, he's a very, I've watched Duke play like all of you, getting ready for March Madness, this kid, you get the exact same game and the exact same details every time you watch him play. You get the exact same player. So there's certain things that don't always travel. You're shot. Toughness travels, screen setting, good feet, good hands,
Starting point is 00:47:42 effort, travel. There's no question. He is a more grounded player. But you know, you got to be careful because Jalen Green and John Morand and Zion and Zach Levine, those guys, I understand people falling in love with the hops and the hops and the dunks and the windmills. I get it. That is not Camboozer. But he is a, and J. Mack loves college basketball. Every time you watch him play, you get exactly the same performance every time. Very rarely would a number three pick be underrated, but in this class, he's going to be
Starting point is 00:48:17 completely overshadowed. Yeah. This is the best topic you had today, Colin. I'm so happy you got it in the show. So it's interesting. Boozer is not super athletic. You're saying he's supposedly sliding down the draft boards, not tumbling, but like maybe he's not one, two, or three, maybe he's five or six. Because the ceiling, like, let's be real, Coach K's saying this stuff, which is nice, there's no way he's a better basketball player than Cooper Flagg. You would agree with that, right? No, no, no, Cooper Flagg's a once in a decade talent. That's totally different. I mean, for Coach to say that like grant hill played at duke grant hill was going to be the next michael jordan before injuries took him down there's so many other guys like christian latner is maybe the greatest college basketball
Starting point is 00:48:55 player ever with the success that he had at duke like there's so many guys i don't see it with booser he just does everything great here's my here's my argument for booser over the last four to five years because of nil the depth and talent in college basketball is really as good as it's ever been today but we always always say this college basketball and the NBA are global sports college football and the NFL aren't so college basketball now Cameron boozer is going up against European players he wasn't going up against five years ago and guys are now staying in college longer so when a guy like Cameron boozer going up against more NBA players NBA talent is giving you this kind of consistency he's also got you know it's Duke he's got several teammates that are also scoring several
Starting point is 00:49:46 teammates that are also getting the ball. So I just, when I watch him play, if you went to the last 10 drafts and you took out the most popular or flashiest player, there is a lot of misses. There is a lot of guys that just aren't winning players. Like I said, with Cominga, Camingga's talented. Jalen Green's talented. I don't think they're winning players. So let me ask you. So the Sacramento Kings, let's say they win the lottery. They're the worst team in the league. Do you go with the super high upside, AJ DeBonsa or Darren Peterson? who could be a three, four, five-time all-NBA guy, maybe an MVP candidate, or Boozer,
Starting point is 00:50:23 who maybe has the ceiling, and this is not a knock, maybe he's DeMontes Sabonis, right? Who's a really good player? Would you agree? No, he's better. He's better off, and I think he's a better offensive. In five years, you think he'll be better than Sabonis? I think he's an all-N-Ba-caliber player.
Starting point is 00:50:37 Oh, yeah. I mean, he's a walking double-double. I think he has all kinds of records of double-doubles. I'm not saying this should be the number one pick. My take is, when you listen to Coach K and you watch his game, this sport more than any other lends itself to wow. Sizzle. Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that. I mean, it's the shoe movement.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Dr. J., Michael Jordan, magic. Like, I'm into it, too. Steph Curry's game is unique. Kobe Bryant, like, I'm into it too. But if you look around the NBA, a lot of the guys that are winning players are more grounded. They're not sizzle guys. John Morant. Remember John Morant, how everybody fell in love with John Morant? I get it. He sold a lot of sneakers. He was like the most pop, one of the most popular players among young teenagers a couple years ago.
Starting point is 00:51:27 So Cameron Boozer is the first player, listen to this, in 40 years, and college basketball now is thick with talent to put up 22, 10, and 4. He's the first college freshman in the history of college basketball to put up those numbers. 10, and 4. So, again, I am seeing in a sport now that's loaded with talent him putting up historic number. Now, Cooper Flag is a better prospect and much flashier and a different
Starting point is 00:51:57 player and Peterson. But again, look around the NBA. The guys, there's a lot of grinders, more grounded players. There's a lot of these guys like Jalen Brunson and Cade Cunningham. They're kind of grinders. They're not about
Starting point is 00:52:13 the rim players. Will you have a better career than Chris Weber. Because I did. Are you the one who compared him to Weber recently? I'm glad you asked that because when I first brought up Boozer last week. That's who, yeah, that was you. Now I said, he's not the prospect of
Starting point is 00:52:28 Seab. But when I looked at him and I looked at his hands and his feet and his effort, I'm like, oh, that's Chris Weber. Now, Weber, and I honestly believe this, was the best prospect at forward. I think I ever saw playing college basketball. I was in love with Chris Weber's team.
Starting point is 00:52:44 He was, I mean, again, I LeBron didn't play college basketball. I mean, it was like C-Web was just different. Yeah. But I think this kid has some of the intangibles. Feet, hands, toughness, rebounding effort. He's not a great defensive player. I'm not saying that.
Starting point is 00:53:01 Cooper flags a way better prospect. Cooper flags the best prospect probably in a decade. Yeah. Hour two next. American prospect. Yes. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast. Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:53:23 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam?
Starting point is 00:53:42 It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest. surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was funny. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball.
