This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On The Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.

Oh, it is a Friday show, a great Friday show, live in Los Angeles.
It's the herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day, our Blazing 5 rebound week, baby.
Blazing 5, one hour from now.
We got so many things to talk about.
prime time, Philadelphia Eagles, Kirk Cousins on the trade market.
A lot of things going on.
Two games I can't wait to watch.
Will the Bears bounce back?
J. Mack, during the summer, you and I, I think we both said this.
We thought Philadelphia would be good, but they'd take a step back.
Didn't we both say that?
Yeah.
So we said they have two new coordinators.
They lost one great one.
We worried about that.
It does look like it's a problem.
I predicted some A.J. Brown wide receiver drama.
I did, got pushback.
We've seen a little.
A little bit.
They didn't play starters in the preseason.
They admit now with new coordinators, they probably should have played the starters.
So we're kind of been right on this.
Last night, we lost a backdoor cover, but backdoor cover by the Vikings.
But here's my takeaway.
This whole Philadelphia team, here we go, is about one thing.
Who are you?
And who is Jalen Hurts?
they have an identity crisis.
They're 2 and 0.
They haven't played well.
So they paid Jalen Hertz a lot of money, right?
He's the man and should be.
Do you now think he has to be a pocket quarterback?
Why?
He's a power running quarterback.
Two he is.
Lean into it.
He's thrown for under 200 yards,
four of his last five starts,
and they've won four of those games.
It's like Russell Wilson and Denver signed a big contract,
suddenly stopped running around.
Why?
Your ability to be elusive and scramble
who you are. Lamar Jackson ever since the MVP, rushing yards have gone down.
They bring in a new coordinator to make him a passer. Why? He passed well enough. He's won 75% of
his starts. He's passing well enough. Here's what the Eagles are. A very, very good football team
with an identity crisis. And it's not really a crisis because they're 2 and 0. But what they are
is a great physical offensive line, a tremendous leader at quarterback who's a
power running quarterback, and a couple of deep threats.
So if you cheat and teams are going to start cheating on them,
they can beat you over the top.
Folks, in and out burger, cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes.
Can I take your order?
They never lose focus.
They've got a complete identity.
You go to other restaurants, fast food places, 80 things on the menu.
Burgers, fries, milkshakes.
I don't even like their fries.
The thing's amazing.
Starbucks, coffee pastries.
The minute they went ice cream, lost their focus.
Didn't the stock tank started giving away coffee for a dollar?
Who is Philadelphia?
They've got a great leader, a great athlete, a power running quarterback,
lean into it, and he's really good near the goal line.
And a lot of power running teams, Tennessee has always felt like they're a wide receiver or three shy.
Right?
Philadelphia's got those.
DeVonte Smith, always good tight ends, AJ Brown.
They're like Tennessee with deep threats.
Like Tennessee got to be a number one seed with Derek Henry.
Mike Vrable, this is who we are.
Tough up front, physical.
We run number one seed.
They just always lacked a guy over the top.
They had A.J. Brown let him go.
And it's like, okay, you lost that little something that Super Bowl winning teams need.
And I think Philadelphia is a really good football team.
Look at their schedule.
Could start 6 and 0.
By the way, the Philadelphia Eagles are 15 and 1, dating back to
last year. Fifteen and one with Jalen Hertz when they have 30 plus rushing attempts.
Three and three when they don't. Run, run more, run often. Last night, when did they start to
pull away and dominate when they just decided to turn and hand the ball off? Then the game
separated. Lean into Jalen Hertz, who is a power running quarterback, a great leader, a terrific
athlete galvanizes the room, unstoppable at the goal line.
That's who he is.
Sometimes when a quarterback has mobility and the quarterback or the team or the coach,
they pay him big money.
It's like, okay, protect him.
He got to be a pocket quarterback.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
You're paying him for four years.
You need him to be great for four years.
I've said this about Lamar Jackson.
Pay him.
If he gets hurt in year five, I got four great years out of him.
NFL is a win now league.
I can't worry about 18 years from him.
now, eight years from now, I can't worry about four years from now. Jalen Hurts right now is very good.
He's a power running quarterback, lean into it. It's a good team, really good team. They're just
kind of trying to find their identity, and I think it's right in front of them. Here's the head coach
after. We didn't play our cleanest game. You know, I think the first week was a little bit of a
more clean game for the defense, and that's clean for the offense, and a little bit vice versa
tonight. So, you know, we'll go back.
You know, you're right. We're 2 and O.
And a lot of teams would like to be sitting at 2 and O.
And like I said, when you're in this position,
you can really, and guys don't know that we're not playing
to the best of our abilities.
You know, you can really, that's where you can make a lot of growth.
Boy, if you look at the stat sheet,
who! Kirk Cousins looked like Peyton Manning.
except Kirk Cousins is now 2 and 10 on Monday night football,
four and five on Thursday night football,
four and four on Sunday night football.
Good guy, B quarterback,
often has B plus A minus nights.
It's time to upgrade, right?
Listen, as a student,
you can get A's on all the weekly tests.
But if you get a C in the midterm and a C in the final,
that's who you are.
things are weighted differently.
The NFL forms opinions on you based on playoff games, big TV games, standalone games.
Tom Brady dialed in for the big ones.
Joe Burroughs had a lot of stinkers.
Man, he's good when the bright lights are on.
He's good under pressure.
Some one o'clock games last week may stink.
Patrick Mahomes, playoff passerating is higher than his record.
regular season passer rating.
That's hard to get your brain around.
So against better defenses and better teams with more pressure, brighter lights,
playoff pressure, Patrick Malm's actually better.
Again, you can get A's on all the midweek tests, but it's the midterm in the final that are weighted differently.
Kirk Cousins, one o'clock games is Peyton Manning.
Since he's played in the NFL, his record against teams that make the playoffs that year is
12 and 38. That's who he is. I don't care about his passer rating. I don't care about his passing
yards. That's who he is. And because it's who he is, this is who and what the Minnesota Vikings
franchise identity is, shrinking big games. That's what you think about when you think about
the Vikings. Well run mostly. Very competitive. When a long
of one o'clock games over Chicago and Detroit.
But the big ones, they clinch their teeth.
It's time to upgrade.
He's an adult.
You could get something for him.
It's not going to the Jets.
But he's productive.
He's an adult.
There'll be no chaos.
He's responsible.
Always says the right things after another standalone loss.
All right.
A tough, tough loss.
you know,
solid opponent,
you know, shot ourselves in the foot with the turnovers.
Similar story now, the first two weeks in that case.
I'm sure that's been said a lot to you guys now
in post game, but it ought to be.
And it's difficult to win in this league when you lose
a turnover battle by one, let alone by the margin we've lost it by.
So, you know, we've got to fix those mistakes
and not let it continue.
That's a perfect Kirk Cousins,
bite. You're in every game with Kirk Cousins. Last night, late cover. You look at the score. You look
at his, you look at his stats. You're like, oh, just this close. Not really.
Philadelphia didn't play particularly well. That game was never in doubt. They had a nine-minute
drive and didn't score and still won. And they won kind of comfortably.
Philadelphia has got to figure out who they are. But who Philadelphia is is a really good
football team.
Minnesota knows what they are, and I think deep down they're tired of what they are, a team
with an absolute ceiling.
The quarterback becomes the identity of the franchise.
We look at Kansas City now.
We look at them as a risky, big game player.
We look at Buffalo as disappointing, but so much talent.
We looked at Brady's Patriots is so smart and efficient.
they get every ounce out of their talent.
Your quarterback defines your identity.
Vikings need to take a big swing.
Just like the Jets need to draft a left tackle next year to start,
Vikings got to find a new guy.
Like Kirk Cousins, movable, productive, adult,
never any chaos, but it's time.
All right, J-Mack, blazing five and 45 minutes from now,
undeterred after a, you know,
shaky start. Do not care. Ready to roll.
It's a long, long season. But Cullen.
It's Eagles. I just looked at their schedule. You ready for the next four quarterbacks they face?
Oh, yeah. Because they haven't looked great. Right? First two weeks have not looked great. Got the dubs, though.
Faced Baker-Mayfield next.
W.
Then they face Sam Howell.
W.
Matt Stafford and the Rams.
Out here at SO-5. Maybe we go to the game.
And then they face Zach Wilson. Oh, yeah, yeah. In New York.
So five and one to six and oh.
Six.
Probably six six.
Rams will give them, it's in L.A.
It'll be fun.
They'll beat the Rams, but it'll be competitive.
It'll be a home game for the Eagles out here, buddy.
You know the Niners crowd this weekend.
It's going to be very...
I went to one Niners Rams game out here.
I mean, the bathrooms where I had to tell my son to earmuffs it
because, you know, these guys are getting a little rowdy and...
Yeah.
A little lubricated.
But I don't love what I've seen from the Eagles, but I'm with you.
They're probably going to be six and oh.
Well, I'll say this.
I think New England's better than people think,
because I think New England outplayed them in the second half.
Okay.
And they want it comfortably.
By the way, take a look at the new England.
I know you're looking at injury reports.
You see what's up with the offensive line?
Do not care.
Trent Brown concussion protocol.
That doesn't mean anything to you?
Nope.
Nothing.
Feel very good about stuff.
Maybe we'll have to go head to head.
Go dolphins?
I can't believe I'm uttering that.

Hurt. Now for my pick of the week via Draft King Sportsbook, I like the New York Giants minus five and a half at
Arizona. Arizona lost to a bad team in the commanders. I don't think it's a great locker room.
I think the rookie head coach is limited. The Giants got embarrassed by the Cowboys,
so most people will flee the Giants. Historically, good coaches and capable quarter-
who are embarrassed on national TV bounce back.
I'll take the Giants to win minus five and a half.

podcast. Great to have you in. What a pleasure on a Friday. Blazing five picks in 40 minutes.
I had a little rough start last week. Only means one thing. I am due. I am due. I love my picks this week.
So J.J. Watt was talking about the Jets without Aaron Rogers. And J.J. Watt said,
I don't think they're a Super Bowl contender anymore. I don't think they're not. Period.
Greg Kossel was talking what the film says and what the Jets will now look like with
Zach Wilson at quarterback.
Zach Wilson still struggles to see it the way you need to see it.
You know, Wilson just struggles with that.
So you're going to see old school football.
You're going to see 80s NFL football and 90s Big 10 football with the Jets.
They're going to play to their defense.
They're going to run the ball.
When it gets to be third and nine, they're going to have.
draws and screens, so they're going to play the way in which maximizes their ability to
compete and win. I was not a Zach Wilson fan at all. I thought he would be a bust. We've had zero,
three touchdown pass games, and one game with a passing rating over 100. But he's young,
he's got a good arm, he can move, he's pretty athletic. You just have to play a certain way
with that defense and run game to win games, which is don't ask him to do much. A couple of big
throws over the middle if he can against man coverage. But the Jets are a desperate franchise.
I hear all these Kirk Cousin rumors. Oh, good hell. You paid a ton for old Aaron Rogers. Why?
Because you whiffed on a quarterback that you reached for. And now you want to pay a lot,
though not a ton, for Kirk Cousins. Why? Because the old quarterback got hurt.
Why did the old quarterback get hurt? Because you whiffed first round left tackle. You're just chasing your
tail. It's what bad businesses do. It's what's the Jets.
do. In poker, this is called being on tilt, meaning you start playing very recklessly and aggressively and
delusional to cover up for big losses. See if you can get all your money back. That's what bad poker players do,
and it's what bad businesses do. Being on tilt is what the Jets mostly feel like. So number one,
stay with Zach Wilson. It's 16 games errands coming back. Two, draft a left.
tackle with your first round pick, which you now have because Aaron's hurt and won't play
enough snaps to surrender it to Green Bay. And number three, just draft another quarterback next year,
third round, fourth round, fifth round after you get a left tackle and maybe another receiver.
Your defense is set for years. But being on tilt is a poker player trying to chase losses
by being reckless.
Kirk Cousins,
listen, you already
chased an old quarterback
because you whiffed in the quarterback,
and now the old quarterback's hurt
because you whiffed on a left tackle.
And please,
for the love of you know what,
reframe expectations.
Aaron Rogers, I didn't see you as a Super Bowl
bubble team, not with an old quarterback
and a shakio line,
but I thought you were somebody that could at least dream
that and have fun. Now with
Zach Wilson, you're not a Super Bowl team.
Can you sneak wild card it into the playoffs?
I don't think so. I doubt it.
But it's early. Let's see. New England may not be able to score
enough points. But Kirk Cousins is the answer.
Kirk Cousins, in the much weaker NFC, went 13 and 4 and could not win a home
playoff game over Daniel Jones.
It's not the answer. You're not a Super Bowl team with Kirk.
you're not a Super Bowl team with Zach.
But being on tilt is not the definition of a good card player,
and it's not how a business should be run.
You're just chasing bad money now.
Stick with Zach.
Draft a left tackle.
Aaron's coming back.
Draft another quarterback fourth, fifth round.
There's a lot of talent.
I've said before.
Never been more good quarterbacks.
We'll have six or seven first round guys.
You don't need that.
You don't want to threaten Aaron, right?
As long as he's coming back.
you'll find somebody in the third, fourth, fifth round, somebody that can play, develop for a year or two behind Aaron Rogers, move off sack.
Always desperate. Always chasing bad money. Jay Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Let's start with Joe Burrow and the Bengals coming off a just ghastly week one performance.
A career low, 82 passing yards from Joe Burrow. He's adamant about turning things around in week two against the Raven saying,
We've got to get one on the board this week.
Colin, I was surprised the show before us, universally, pick the Ravens to beat the Bengals.
And I think you and I vehemently disagree with those guys.
Yeah, I like the Bengals to go one-in-one.
Ronnie Stanley could be out at left tackle.
Oh, he hasn't practiced yet this week.
Yeah, so, I mean, that's a thing.
So I like Baltimore, but I pick Pittsburgh to make the playoffs because I think Baltimore's
top players, except Mark Andrews all have a deep injury history, and Pittsburgh's don't.
So I think Pittsburgh's not very good now, but they'll have.
eventually straighten it out.
Baltimore, this is who they are.
Their identity is injuries early and often.
Mark Andrews hoping to return.
But I looked into some, you know,
everybody wants to cite Lamar.
He dominates the Bengals.
He's six and one against the Bengals.
So I looked it up.
Colin, Bengals have only been good for two years.
A lot of Lamar's wins against Cincinnati were stacked early in his career.
Before Burrow got there, Orwin Burrow was a rookie.
And it's like, okay, how's Lamar done in the last two years against the Bengals?
He's only one in one.
one of them they got destroyed so i'm with you i think the bengals are definitely the side i think this
should be a good game but i don't see how they stop the bengals offense this is now a really
physical rivalry so it's going to be a competitive game i mean it's last year even when
lamar was out i mean they gave didn't didn't the bengals got a huge break at the goal line ball was
fumbled Cincinnati took it in for a touchdown but baltimore with like a third string quarterback
gave the bingles fits who was the uh was it tyrod taylor or uh yeah i no no it was
Hunley, Hunley, yes, there you do you go.
The other thing that, one thing to look for, week two, and I think you and I will reveal some of these later, look for teams at home that are 0-1-1-facing a 1-0 team coming in.
Very fired up, got to get the win. Can't start 0-2.
The Bengals fit that profile.
Next up, let's go with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, which also fits the profile of the game I was talking about.
Buffalo is coming off one of the worst performances in Josh Allen's young career.
four turnovers was forcing things.
O.C. Ken Dorsey doesn't seem concerned, saying,
I don't think you get to this point in Josh Allen's career
if this happened to every single game.
Some of the best quarterbacks of all time have had multiple interception games.
That's true.
But what has happened, we have a trend line here,
that it's gotten significantly more problematic since Brian Dayball left.
It's not that he has big interception games.
Like increasingly, this team, it's what's surrounding him.
They can't run.
The protection's not great.
He has to save the day.
It's a lot of what the Chicago Bears are, but Josh Allen's a better quarterback than Justin Fields.
Quarterbacks, even Mahomes, even Mahomes should not have to save the day.
That's why the way.
Remember when Andy Reid, they went and rebuilt that O-line?
They paid big money for a guard.
They drafted a center in like the first or second round.
Like, even with a great quarterback, you can't.
ask him to save the day.
Sometimes Mahomes, defense is gassed.
Mahomes has to come in and just do
Mahomes. They're asking Josh Allen
to do that 17 times a year.
Well, you saw how the Jets defended
him. They've done this in three straight games down.
We're taking away the bomb. We're not giving you
the 60-yard pass. We're going to have the safeties
back, and we're going to say, run the football, Josh.
Take the five-yard dump off. And
for whatever is wrong with Josh Allen,
he doesn't want that. He wants the big
play. So he's making these yolo throws
and the safeties are just like, okay, I'm back.
here and he's intercepting everything. So can Josh dial up back and say, remember Patrick Mahomes
dealt with this, Colin, when they played the two high safety, so it was a Tennessee Titans game.
And by the way, and then people started taking away the deep throw, and Mahomes figured it out
over time. It took them a few weeks, like seven or eight weeks out. Yeah, it did. But Mahomes eventually
figured it out. It's like Josh, go look at Mahomes. Take what the defense gives you. That's right.
You're going to have to live off 12-yard drag routes and underneath stuff. Mahomes now,
but it did take Patrick a while. Remember he had some.
I think he had some early interception.
There was like a seven or eight week stretch where they were struggling.
So bills minus eight and a half.
There has been Raiders money coming in in this game.
Colin,
this is so far my biggest bet of the weekend.
I like the bills significantly in this game.
If you look at last year,
sure, they struggle occasionally against tough defenses or really good teams.
What do they do against inferior teams?
They kill them.
They win 12, 18, 21 points.
They beat bad teams.
Okay?
Raiders, altitude.
Now coming east for a 1 o'clock kickoff, I think this Buffalo smash spot, no?
I think you're right.
I probably regret not making that a blazing five pick.
Somebody tried to talk me into another game.
I'll tell you at the top of the hour.
I just couldn't do it, but all the wise guys like a game, I couldn't do it.
All right.
Final story, Jordan Love had a solid week one, 245 yards and three touchdowns.
He sure silenced Colin Cowherd with that performance.
Matt LaFleurr praised Love saying the team has a big-time belief in what
He will do in the team's offense the season.
Love added his week one success is definitely a building block for the rest of the season.
Now, here's the cause for concern in week two, Colin.
Aaron Jones still hasn't practiced with the hamstring.
Christian Watson still hasn't practiced.
Romeo Dobbs.
I know.
What are you?
Where's he looking for offense?
No, this feels like a stayaway game for me because it's like Green Bay is all banged up.
Now Jordan Love goes on the road.
I just, this is, you know, I said this last week.
I stayed away from Bears, Packers.
I just wanted to watch it.
I just want to watch Jordan Love Road game against Atlanta.
I'm staying away.
I don't, because I think Green Bay is going to be really good, but it just so happens.
A lot of other young guys are banged up, and I don't trust.
You can't rely on young tight ends.
Young receivers can pop.
Young running bats can pop.
Young tight ends for whatever reason, maybe because they're such a blocking component to the game,
young tight ends, even good ones, and the Packers have a couple good ones,
feels like they take a year to really gel.
So this can't be a Luke Musgrave, A.J. Dilland.
That's not going to get it done.
So I think that their practice report for me today is the most interesting.
If Jones is in a go and Dobbs is out and Watson, I don't see how you don't take the Falcons here, right?
I think you have to.
I have lost more money on the Atlanta Falcons than any professional sports franchise.
There's one team in Atlanta I trust in big spots.
The Braves, I'll pass on Atlanta Falcons.
There you go.
J. Mac with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.
Sometimes I call it a stayaway game.
I just want to watch the game.
Last week, I just wanted to watch the Packers Bears.
I didn't want money on it.
I just wanted to watch it.
This week, Monday Night Football Browns and the Steelers to me,
I just want to watch the game.
So the Pittsburgh Steelers at home are a dog.
Two and a half point dog.
If the Steelers lose, here's their reality.
Oh, and two.
Both losses at home, fourth best quarterback in their division.
That's their reality.
If you're a Steeler fan, forget your history.
Nobody cares.
Forget your history.
What are you today?
A defensive culture in an offensive league, never great but never terrible,
and you pride yourself on loyalty and continuity.
You sound like a well-run business without any upside.
You're profitable, you're stable.
It's a way to make a living.
In 2023, that's the Steelers.
It's a restaurant that never changes its menu.
Same customers, same menu.
Hi, Marge, biscuits and gravy are ready for you.
That's just what it kind of feels like to me.
This morning, the staff looked this up.
I didn't have time to look it up because it's a lot of games.
36 consecutive games without one 400-yard offensive game.
every other NFL team has had one.
In fact, I'm told at least three.
Steelers none.
Again, it's the mom and pop business in Silicon Valley.
Stable.
It's profitable.
But it does feel like they're not ever going to be it.
That's what it feels like to me.
But hey, same customers, expectations, makes everybody comfortable.
I like Mike Tomlin, but they've won eight or nine.
games for the last five years.
And that's exactly what they feel like.
I just want to watch this game.
But listen, man, they lose.
They are 0-and-2, both at home, and there is no question.
Kenny Pickett is not Joe Burrell, Lamar Jackson, or Dachshon Watson.
It's the fourth best quarterback in their division.
And remember what the Steelers were in between Terry Bradshaw and Big Ben.
Okay.
Never great.
Never really terrible.
Okay.
very, very interesting game.
Can't wait for it.
By the way, former Steeler Cordell Stewart on the show today
because we're talking Colorado as well.
I got some data yesterday.
It would bore you so I won't get into it.
Colorado football is absolutely on fire.
So it's the strangest controversy ever
that I ever remember in college football.
Two coaches.
One, nobody knows.
The other is a rock star.
And they're going back and forth.
And it's made, you know, this is Dion Sanders completely leaning into it.
So there's a coach for Colorado State that said something.
And Dion responded, and let's play the tapes right here.
And I sat on with the ASPINN today, and I don't care if they hear it in Boulder.
I told them I took my hat off and I took my glasses off.
And I said, when I talk to grownups, I take my hat and my glasses off.
That's what my mother talked.
So, you know, they're not going to like us no matter what we say or do.
It doesn't matter.
I'm out of my own business, watching some film, trying to get ready,
trying to get out here and be the best coached jacket being.
I look up and I read some bulljunk the damn sad about us.
Talk to us.
Once again.
Why would you want to talk about us when we don't talk about nobody?
All we do is go out here, work our butts off and do our job on set.
It was just going to be a good game.
They'll mess around and made it.
Deon Sanders has everybody in the world talking about Colorado football.
It's great for Colorado football.
It's so funny.
Pac-12's never been more interesting, and it's being disbanded.
What a bummer.
I'm talking Colorado and Colorado State and a Friday.
It's awesome.
College football coaches in my life, and you know I love the sport, have overwhelmingly been control freaks.
older white guys, angry, yelling, hating any new thing.
NIL, they hated it.
Transfer portal, they hated it.
Chip Kelly uptempo offense, they hated it.
A majority of college football coaches are power freaks,
anything that changes, anything that's not the norm they're uncomfortable with.
And then here comes Dion Sanders.
All shades all day.
Cool.
Got a nickname.
Attitude in Boulder altitude.
And it is great for the sport.
Phil Knight made people uncomfortable too at Oregon.
300 uniforms, driving motorcycles on the field.
Felt like a nightclub at Hudson Stadium.
Up-tempo offense.
All the old heads just hated it.
I thought it was great.
And I was a Husky fan growing up.
I want to see Colorado go 11 and 1.
They need to lose to USC.
I would love to see him go 11 and 1.
But Dion Sanders, he's making people uncomfortable.
He's making people a little uncomfortable.
I thought he would be good for Colorado football.
I had no idea that he could take a roster and flip it in one-off season,
flip 70% of the players and be this good, this early.
He won at Jackson State immediately, so you knew he could coach.
It's been just a remarkable story.
It's incredibly easy to root for.
The only downside, has the Pact 12 ever been better or more compelling than this year?
And it's disbanding.
What a story.
NIL, transfer portal, up-tempo offense.
No, no, no, no.
Coach wearing shades.
Coach got a hat on.
Coach with attitude at altitude.
Great for the sport.
They're going to beat Colorado State by whatever they want to, and then Colorado goes to Oregon,
comes home for USC, those are going to be massive games.
If they beat, they're going to beat Colorado State, name the score.
If they beat Oregon, I don't think they will, because Oregon's got better, well, good players
and an NFL quarterback.
If they beat Oregon, USC at Colorado is going to be the highest redded regular season game,
and it's going to beat Michigan, Ohio State.
That's my prediction.
Did you folks see what Nebraska, Colorado got last weekend?
Got 9.5 million people.
If they go into that USC game at Boulder,
we may have to consider a Friday show.
I don't even like remote shows.
That is going to be,
there'll be so much star power in that game.
Caleb Williams, USC, Lincoln Riley, Dion Sanders,
his amazing son, Travis Hunter.
That is going to get,
You could have 15 million people watching that.
That's like an NFL audience.
That thing's going to be gigantic.
Do you want to guess the spread Colorado at Oregon in two weeks?
Well, I think Oregon's probably favored by 11.5, 12.
A little higher.
14.
Yeah, I would take Colorado.
But I think it would be, I think it'll be competitive.
But they have a, listen, Oregon recruits at a high, high level.
Bo Nix is an NFL quarterback.
They got dudes.
Oregon's got NFL dudes all over the.
place. This will be their toughest test. TCU. And plus, Austin Stadium is the second loudest
stadium I've ever been into the swamp in Gainesville. It's the second loudest stadium. It's built
into the ground. It's only like 55,000. You can't hear yourself think. So I think that's a lot
to ask. And then back to back against Oregon and USC, that's like, come on. That's a lot.
That's too tall a task. Even for the legend Dion Sanders. Come on. But he's making people uncomfortable.
Yeah. We make people uncomfortable.
We don't. People like us.
Not to.
No.
I said yesterday, I always feel weird talking to somebody.
If they don't have sunglasses on and I do, I do feel, I don't care about hats.
It's when the coach said that, it's like take your glasses off.
Nobody ever told me to say that.
But I've always felt, if I have dark sunglasses and you don't, and you're telling me something that's important,
I feel like I owe you.
Do you take it down slowly?
Like the TV effect?
But my mom didn't tell me anything about that.
I don't care.
I've never heard that.
I've never heard that until this.
Well, I mean, you know, moms have messages.
You know, whatever.
I've heard a lot of messages.
I haven't heard that one.
Take off your sunglasses when you address me.
Well, you know, it's just certain, you know, parents, when you raise kids, there's a lot of messages.
Don't eat too fast.
Get your elbows off the table.
There's, you know, there's a, by the way, I know this.
Oh, goes off the table.
That's a real thing.
Your sunglasses is not.
Don't wear a hat.
Don't wear a hat at the dinner table.
That's a real thing.
All right.
Well, maybe his mom had other messages.
It's okay.
I do like how he's given us a little pop.
I think Colorado football has been a, it's just been fantastic.
I think we both thought it would get a lot of attention.
But to win this fast, it's been crazy.
I thought the attention would be because they stunk.
Let's be real.
No, I think we both, I thought they were going to get blown out by TCU.
Yeah.
So, but for the record, I mean, selfishly we have it at Fox.
I'm glad they didn't.
No.
I'm going to tell you something.
That Oregon game's going to be big.
If they beat Oregon, all bets are off, $15 million.
people watch USC Colorado.
My bosses are like, no, that's not the number.
I'm just telling you, 9.5 million watched
Colorado Nebraska, and it wasn't even a good game in the second half.
Early, they scheduled it early.
Well, that's going to USC.
Are they going to put it prime time?
Well, that's the thing.
What other games are they going up?
Do you ever think in your life, Colorado, Nebraska would be Texas Bama?
And by the way, again, I was there.
Not I was there, but I was like a young kid when like Eric B.
Enemy, Cordell, Michael Westport.
Those teams were awesome.
Do you know I voted Eric Bienemy?
The only time I had a Heisman vote, I voted B Enemy to Heisman.
He was amazing.
And he lost, I think, to like Ty Detmer or something.
I think he lost to a BYU quarterback, whoever the BYU quarterback.
Look at you in your bag in like late 1980s Heisman Trophy Talk.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotes.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Oh, there's so many good game. Blazing 5, 15 minutes from now,
don't go anywhere. By the way, one of the games
I did not bet, people tried to talk me in
to Seattle plus the points against Detroit, but Seattle's
missing both tackles. Adrian Hutchinson
Aiden Hutchison is a really good pass rusher.
I was worried about going on the road, loud, dome, no tackles.
But a lot of the wise guys like Seattle to cover.
I stayed away just because missing two tackles, Patrick Mahomes got blown out once,
missing two tackles.
I don't know if you can do backup tackles, especially when one's 40.
But that was a game the wise guys loved.
I'm not going to go there.
So the only counter is that's tough to replace in the middle of the game.
Obviously in the second half, adjustments, they couldn't do it quick enough.
Now they've had a week to implement a new game plan with backup tackles.
So maybe the offense is more crisp.
Line has come down towards Seattle.
I know.
I know the wise guys liked it.
Listen, I'm not going 5'0.
You might.
Because I'm taking some bad teams this week, but I like the numbers.
Some dogs with fleas, huh?
Well, I just, it's not about winning.
It's about covering.
I don't care who wins.
I just want covers, right?
So the Miami Dolphins, Tua is 4-0 against Belichick.
Mike McDaniels is this offensive genius.
He's an offensive genius.
And he's praising Bill Belichick.
Here you go.
It's amazing that the orchestration of the defense is so consistent,
so fundamentally consistent and sound,
the strain, very, very detailed.
And the leader of the ship was awesome.
at the same job when we were all like, what's an iPod?
They are unique in what they do.
And that's a testament to, you know, from an ex-as-o standpoint,
one of the founding fathers of this generation of football.
It's a total clash of styles.
That's why I can't wait to watch this game.
Can't wait to watch it.
New England is efficient.
That's the goal to be smart and efficient.
Tough, kind of boring.
Miami's dynamic motion on every play, progressive, new, fun, and flashy.
One prides itself on do your job.
The other, most fun team in the league to watch, Miami Dolphins.
Cannot wait to watch this.
But if the Dolphins win again, I mean, if New England wins, they should, they're at home.
But if the dolphins win again, isn't it perhaps another moment to pause and add a stack or another chip to the stack of,
is Belichick the right coach for the future?
Struggle to beat great quarterback Josh Allen.
Can't beat Tua, despite his brilliance, defense efficiency and culture.
This is more than a game.
It feels like a little bit of a referendum.
on 2023 NFL football.
Old school, tough, efficient, smart.
Not that Miami isn't smart, but it's fun, it's motion, it's dynamic.
The sport now due to rule changes favors offense.
You are limited defensively.
There's almost no limits offensively.
If New England wins, and I think it's going to be a great game,
what does it mean?
It means Miami finally gets to go play a home game.
But if New England wins,
loses. Oh, and two, at home to arguably better quarterbacks, Tua. Jalen Hertz.
Is it a referendum? Patriots cannot draft a skill player on offense to save their life.
Last year, they named a defensive coordinator as their offensive coordinator.
That felt incredibly tone deaf, but, you know, I just talk for a living.
They coach. But I think this is a little bit, it's a little bit of clash of cultures.
Greg Cocell talking about this Miami offense.
They use motion as well as any team in the league, and you're seeing it more and more and more.
And the whole idea behind motion, or one of the main ideas, is free access off the ball.
Because now you take someone like Tyreek Hill, who you're concerned about his speed to begin with,
and now he motions, and now you have to back off.
Or they line him up in a spot, held motion to a spot where a corner is in an uncomfortable position.
maybe closer to the formation or in the formation.
And they scream off the line.
And all you're thinking about is I cannot get beat over the top.
I was so blown away by the coaching mismatch,
my perception of it last Sunday, Miami over the Chargers defensive coach.
So again, you have another defensive coach against this wizardry.
I mean, two is fine.
This is a Mike McDaniel, Jalen,
Waddle, Tyreek Hill story. I like Tua, but he's small, he's not athletic, arm is good enough,
he's been hurt a lot. I think there's great, you know, concerned of signing him to a long-term
big deal. He's got a couple years left. But I'm really fascinated. Sometimes games feel bigger
than just games. And this feels, this is another kind of clash of styles and the way you see
the world in football. I can't wait. All right, Blazing five, top of next hour. We are ready to go.
Cordell Stewart, the former Colorado Buffalo
Great and former Steeler.
He'll talk about both coming up.
It is a Friday.
The show is flying by.
One down, two to go.
I got a feeling.
I got a feeling these blazing five picks.
J. Mack's not going to like him.
I just got a feeling next.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy.
Not quite.
