This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but the show.
celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok.

Oh, here we go in a Thursday all fired up.
Can't wait.
Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening.
Thank you for making us part of your day, radio TV, whatevs?
J-Mack, Greg CoSell in one hour, 15 minutes NFL meat sandwich.
You bet football, fantasy football, want to get smarter in football.
Greg CoSell is money, baby.
At the end of our show yesterday,
we had comedian David Spade on and the NBA story broke J. Mack.
And I've been just chomping at the bit to get back on the air
and talk about this deal.
You know what?
I thought it was going to get it done quickly.
And then I gave up on it and thought, okay, we'll wait to the season.
So it was a pleasant surprise yesterday and I'm kind of fired up for it.
Yeah, very excited.
It's rare when, like, everybody wins.
A massive trade, right?
Yep.
So I think everybody got value.
Everybody won.
Milwaukee, Phoenix, Portland.
And Damian Lillard won, too.
He just doesn't know it yet.
So let's talk about Milwaukee.
Listen, massive size,
Portis,
Janus,
Brooke Lopez,
rim protection.
You need that with Dame.
He's not a good defender and he's small.
This is a team that has a fortress in front of the rim.
Janus now does not have to control the ball as much.
It gives them a great late game score.
Janus sometimes can get worn out in the playoffs.
Wasn't necessarily great in the fourth.
They call it dame time.
His money quarter is the fourth.
He is great for Milwaukee.
He is great for Milwaukee.
He is a fourth quarter closer.
Janice does so much on both ends, handles the ball, defends.
I think sometimes in the playoffs, it feels like he's worn down and attacked.
I love this for Milwaukee, and this morning, they are NBA title favorites.
Love it.
How about Phoenix?
Phoenix has their guys.
They got Durant.
They got Booker, Bradley Beale.
What did they need?
Two things.
Bench scoring.
They got it with Grayson Allen, 10-11 a game.
And they also needed upgraded chemistry.
DeAndre Aiton's talented, but he never gets looks.
You've got three bona fide scoring stars.
He never gets looks, so Phoenix gets a chemistry upgrade and bench scoring.
Great for them.
And what does Portland get?
Picks, because they're all about the future.
They also get a very good player.
I'm a huge fan of Drew Holiday.
And they get D'Andre Aiton, who will get more organic looks, will be a happier player in Portland.
There's no Duran on this team.
There's no Devin Booker on this team yet, or Bradley Beale.
didn't get looks in Phoenix. He'll get looks in Portland. Not as many maybe as he loves, but he'll be a
happier player. He's an athletic, big runs the floor. So years one and two, I think everybody won
the trade, but they won it in different timelines. For the first two years, Milwaukee and Phoenix,
real title contenders won this trade. But dame's wearing down, right? So, and Yonis now got hurt
recently. And Phoenix, Durant injuries, Bradley Beal, a lot of wear on the tires. The first two years
of this trade were won by Milwaukee and Phoenix. Years three through 12 are won by the Blazers.
Assets, future, and watch out when they hit. They're not there yet. They're not a title team yet,
but watch out. They are going to be like an Oklahoma city. Like they're sneaky good now and nobody's
going to want to play them in about three years.
And that was Oklahoma City about three years ago.
Now they're getting better.
I think Portland years three through ten won this trade.
So now it's the Damien Lillard component.
What a bummer.
He ain't get go where he wants.
This happens a lot in life.
You don't get a job.
You get what you perceive as a second job, right?
Your safety college.
You wanted to get into Princeton, but you ended up going to Holy Cross and you're like,
wow, Holy Cross was a way better fit.
Damien's a poor defender and he's small.
Milwaukee's the biggest team in the league.
Even if Brooke Lopez is in foul trouble, there's Portis and Janus.
Yonis is injured.
There's Lopez and Portis.
If Bam gets hurt in Miami, it's often injured Jimmy Butler.
Like there is depth of size and depth of scoring.
Middleton can give you 24.
Yonis can give you 34.
can give you 22.
There's a lot of depth of size and scoring in Milwaukee.
Dame's going to be the guy late in games,
but they have more ability to protect the rim.
Both are good defensive teams.
Miami and Milwaukee's where Dame wanted to go,
but Milwaukee's got more size and more depth of size,
and he'll get the ball late.
Jimmy Butler is great.
Jimmy Butler is playing 59 games a year now.
Last five years, that's what he plays.
because he plays hard and he gets banged up and he's not a giant player.
So there are going to be a lot of nights.
It's just Dame and Bam.
And that's what it is.
Chris Middleton gets hurt.
It's still Yonnes, better than anybody Miami has.
Janus is better than any Miami Heat player.
He's better than Bam.
He's better than Jimmy Butler and Lopez or a Middleton.
So the depth of size also, Dame went to college at Weber State and played in Portland.
Miami is brash, loud, spotlight expectations.
Milwaukee's an underrated city to live in.
Had friends been there, they love it.
It's a great organization.
It's under the radar.
Weber State, Portland, Milwaukee.
Today, the bucks are the favorite to win the championship.
They may have been in Miami,
but the expectations in Miami is with Pat Riley and Spolstra,
you got to win.
This is what they do.
It's the Miami Heat.
They win championships.
Milwaukee is like, this will be cool.
I think they're going to win a championship.
He's a small town guy who's been loyal to Weber State.
loyal to Portland. He loves Portland.
Loves Weber State. Milwaukee's going to
love Dame and he's
going to love Milwaukee.
He's got a western feel to him.
And I think
Milwaukee's closer to home.
Miami's its own
galaxy and I love Miami.
But it's way down there.
Spotlight, stars, expectations.
This is the safety
college that a kid
chooses. Doesn't get into the one he
wants, goes to the safety college and you're like, yeah, I really like Holy Cross.
You know what?
TCU really works for me.
I didn't get into Texas.
I think all three win.
And I think Dame wins.
He just doesn't know it yet.
Reasonable expectations.
Janus is better than anybody Miami had.
Depth of size.
Depth of scoring.
I love it.
All right.
Now, here's something that, uh, this whole jessels.
situation's a mess. And I've been on the side of, listen, Aaron's coming back. I hear about this guy,
this guy replacing Zach Wilson. You might as well just stay with Zach Wilson. Then this rumor came out.
Ryan Tannahill Titans quarterback to the Jets. Now, that's interesting. Here's why. I didn't buy Kirk
Cousins. Why? Because he shrinks. And New York is a pressure cooker.
okay that's not what kirk cousins is kirk cousins is one o'clock window kurt all right that's what he is
it's been established don't argue right like we all know he's one o'clock window it's not a late game
he's not window he's not pressure new york city is pressure plus it's a bad old line a bad pass
blocking o'line kirk cousins isn't hyper athletic bad o'line kirk cousins pressure give me a break
Carson Wentz.
Well, I push back on that for two reasons.
One, the Jets already have a mobile strong-arm quarterback with locker room issues.
Isn't that Carson Wentz's label?
Arm moves well.
Not sure he got along with anybody in Philadelphia, and they didn't exactly love him in Indy.
Ryan Tannahill is different.
First, he was a college receiver.
Big, strong, and athletic.
he can deal with a shaky pass blocking line.
He may be semi-limited, but he doesn't shrink in big games.
He's just not great if he gets beat by a Brady or beat by Mahomes.
This is because he's not as good.
Kirk Cousinsish shrinks in spots.
I don't think Tannahill does.
He just does what he is.
And go back to Tannahill when Tennessee was the number one seed.
J. Max is going to hate this.
What was Tennessee?
defensive head coach, great defense, one star receiver, a strong run game, and a shaky pass blocking offensive line.
They could run block, they didn't pass block well.
What are the Jets, defensive coach, great defense, run game, can run block okay, bad pass blocking O line, one star receiver.
It's the same team.
Now, you may not like Vrabel, or you may not like Sala as much as Vrable.
It's the same roster.
You can run it.
You can defend most of your talents on defense.
They don't pass block well.
They can run block pretty well.
One star receiver.
This works.
This makes sense.
Tennessee has got to give these young quarterbacks a look.
Whether they can play or not, let them play.
It's not a Super Bowl team.
Rable's not going to get fired.
Sala, J-Mack thinks could.
I don't but could.
So my takeaway is the Kirk Cousins thing never worked.
Shaky pass-blocking line with Kirk Cousins,
pressure cooker in New York, that's not going to work.
Carson Wentz is just a bigger version of Zach Wilson, kind of.
Tannale's different.
Strong, athletic.
Go look at his Tennessee's success.
five or six of the exact same components of the Jets.
This is interesting.
Robert Sala this week, changing his tune a bit on Zach Wilson.
We all acknowledge he has to play better.
We all acknowledge that.
He acknowledges that.
Teammates acknowledge it.
He acknowledges himself.
And, you know, but the key is to have confidence in yourself.
You have to.
You've got to maintain your belief in yourself and your teammates.
and play within yourself and not try to press and make things happen.
Just play within the structure of the offense.
Get the ball to your playmakers and let your playmakers go to work.
Lot of doubters on Ryan Tannahill and Miami goes to Tennessee.
They're a number one seed.
They win their division from time to time.
A lot of doubters on Tannahill.
Third choice goes to the Jets.
You don't think Tanna Hill?
That defense?
that run game, star receiver.
Come on. Tannehill played at a mage botlight in Miami.
I think he could handle New York.
I think he could overcome a bad pass blocking online.
He became a number one seat in Tennessee.
Look it up.
They could run block couldn't pass block.
Is Vrable better than Sala?
That's the perception.
We don't know that much about Sala.
He hadn't got the quarterback right yet.
He's had one series with Aaron Rogers in the game.
So, okay, J. Mack, it sounds nutty.
That one got me interested.
Don't do this to me, buddy.
Listen, we're friends.
I've known you for a long time.
Don't start the show trying to force-feed me, Ryan Tannahill, okay?
I just looked up the stats.
I mean, listen, I like you a lot, Colin.
You know, we text, we talk, we're friends.
Kirk Cousins under pressure this year.
Six touchdown passes zero interceptions.
Ryan Tannahill under pressure, according to pro football focus.
Zero touchdowns, two picks, 81 yards passing.
Tanahill shrinks under pressure.
And that offensive line is going to get him killed.
What defense is Kirk Cousins face this year?
The Chargers.
He faced some bad defenses.
He did face the Eagles.
He put up some garbage time numbers.
Yeah, it'd be nice if Justin Jefferson was a target for Tannahill, the best receiver in the game.
See, this is what's so good about college.
He's got conviction.
He really believes in Ryan.
Absolutely.
You know, his nickname's Ryan Tanna Thrill because he's such a good comeback guy.
You know, Ryan Tantanill.
I never thought Tannahill's a shrinker.
I think there's limitations, but I think in big games,
Joe Burrow out-duled him.
I mean, Joe Burrow threw a bunch of picks and won that game.
You don't have to like Tannahill, but Burrell's better than Tannhill.
He went to Foxborough and beat Tom Brady in his last Patriot game.
I never think of Tanna Hill as a guy that can't handle pressure.
Texas A&M, pressure, Texas football, Miami, Spotlight, pressure.
He was fine.
Rable's a coach you've got to play well for.
I think Tannahill is a solid.
We don't talk about them a lot.
We don't talk about the Titans a lot because their games,
not real dynamic and fun.
He can handle New York.
Do you remember when you were in college and you and your buddy's got his eye on a girl?
And he's like, hey, can you be my wingman?
She's got a friend.
Right, right, right.
And then occasionally he'll be like, yeah, sure, sure, I'm in.
And then sometimes you'll be like, that's a hard pass, bro.
I'm sorry.
This, Ryan Tannahill is a hard pass for me.
I just want nothing to do with that.
I'd rather watch Zach Wilson just vomit all over himself for 13 weeks.
I don't want Tana Hill.
We could not be on more opposite sides.
I know, this is with the beauty of the show, you know.
Maybe I should wear a Tanyhill jersey at the beach and show the gun show off.
Maybe I should go all in on this, commit to it.

Commanders Plus 8 at the Eagles.
Philly on a short week due to Monday Night Football.
Commanders Division game.
They run the ball, humiliated by box.
team's humiliated play better the next week. Eagles may win. I'll take the eight. Browns at home
minus two and a half against the injury riddled Ravens. Browns, the best team in the league nobody's
watching or cares about. I don't know how Baltimore moves the ball consistently. I'll take the Browns
minus two and a half. I'll take the Rams plus one against the Colts. Gardner Minshu feels good. What a story.
Rams played very poorly. They'll get the details and the run game back. They're a better
team in the Colts, Rams plus one.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because.
of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
You are now entering the no bull zone sponsored by credible great rates and none of the bull.
So Damian Lillers agent, Aaron Goodwin says, listen, Miami did everything they could.
Want to thank Pat Riley.
Want to thank Eric Spolstra, Mickey Erison.
That's what agents should do.
They clearly wanted to go to Miami.
But I'm sorry, but small aging NBA stars don't always get.
what they want.
Lots of aging stars end up in uniforms that years later, we forget they were in that
uniform.
The good news is, we won't forget this.
They're favored to win the title.
NBA stars have enormous power and should.
Doesn't mean you always get a name your precise destination.
Milwaukee's favored to win.
This is a great spot, well-run organization.
But Dame did a lot for Portland.
was, well, compensated the entire time.
Dame also signed an extension.
He didn't have to.
That gave the team more leverage.
See, when you sign an extension, you get the lettuce.
They get some of the leverage.
You don't sign an extension.
You maintain the power.
So LeBron and KD, better players than Dame, bigger athletes, did one plus ones.
and then could move.
But they trusted, especially LeBron,
LeBron trusted his game and his durability.
So until recently, he was a one plus one guy.
But that's LeBron.
Dame's not LeBron.
KD, when many argued he was the best player,
he wanted more mobility and his personality is more wandering.
Dame's not.
Dame picks a college.
He picks a team.
He likes what he likes.
He's loyal.
That's what we love about Dame.
That and he's a great fourth quarter score.
But we all make choices in life.
There's lots of NBA, aging NBA stars, and Dame's been banged up, smaller athlete.
He's not going to give you 82 games, probably not going to give you 72 games.
You're buying him, you're trading for him for fourth quarters in the playoffs,
and I think you'll be great for the next two to three years.
But we all make choices.
And the NFL, the brands are much bigger.
We know that unless you're Patrick Mahomes, you don't have a lot of power.
You get Tom Brady could have been traded.
Like that's the way until the very end of his career, Brady could have been traded.
Very few quarterbacks.
Quarterbacks even have no trade clauses.
Right?
Like that, that's, Aaron Rogers didn't.
Brady until the end didn't have a choice.
But the Blazers had a choice.
And they paid Dame handsomely.
And he earned it.
And they didn't send him off to Orlando.
They didn't send him off to the Wizards.
They sent him to Milwaukee that has arguably the world's best player,
not just defensively, overall, athletically, on some nights offensively.
But teams have a right.
You can't have a business where employees have all the power.
I own a small business.
I like to empower my employees.
They can't have all of it.
Players can't say, I want this shoes.
this team on my terms and the money long term.
The bottom line, it's a league.
And there's occasionally a LeBron James who can do a one plus one because he trusts his body
as durability.
Like, you know, but even Dame toward the end, excuse me, even LeBron toward the end.
Didn't he sign a longer contract with the Lakers?
Why?
Starting to get hurt.
He wanted the money.
So Dame made choices.
Well, compensated.
This doesn't mean the end of anything in the NBA.
Players will still have leverage.
Players will still have stars.
You know stars still have power in this trade.
How do I know?
Because why did Milwaukee get Dame?
Because Yonis started talking and saying things like, I hope to stay here.
If we don't upgrade, I don't necessarily know if I'm staying here.
We need to keep building and getting better, or I don't know if I'll stay here.
and they went and got him dame.
Stars have always run international soccer, as they should.
Coaches come and going soccer, and they dominate the NBA, power structure, as they should.
But you don't get everything.
You sign an extension, you give stuff up.
And this is the best case scenario.
I know y'all think Miami was better.
Miami would have been more popular.
I think Milwaukee's the perfect spot.
J-MAC with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Let's start with your pal, Sean Peyton, and his Denver Broncos.
Man, losing by 50 points is tough to swallow.
Sean Payton spoke about what went wrong in that blowout in Miami.
What came about Sunday was one of these perfect storms where we struggled in a lot of areas.
And then when you do that against an explosive officer.
offense, then all of a sudden, you know, it snowballs. And so I'm sure there are a number of things
that we, when I say that as coaches look at and say, all right, we would have done this.
We always talk about after a game, even when we win, you know, what would we do different
playing this team again? And I think we have to always approach it that way.
Yeah, I mean, it does, we talked about this yesterday.
Miami, like San Francisco when Shanahan started, you know, year two and three for Shanahan,
year three, it felt like he was a little ahead of the league on some things and people were playing
catch up.
I think the league's playing catch up to Miami with all their motion, 83% of their offenses motion.
That's the highest in the league.
Only the Niners and Chiefs are close.
And so I think they're a little ahead of the league.
You have a new coaching staff in Denver that can't figure out second halves.
And all of a sudden you look up and go, uh-oh, this is not a good spot for us.
cross-country travel, dolphins open at home, they're ahead of the league, Denver's just trying to build the culture and trust in each other, it's just a bad spot.
Chicago feels like there's no sun in sight. Denver, I think this weekend, plays Chicago, and I think you're going to see, no, Denver's got some stuff figured out, or they're getting there.
They just, their offense in the second half in Denver is but atrocious, but I'll argue that this happens,
quite often
when a team is a little bit of a head of the league offensively,
Warriors three-point shots,
the defense in an off-season will catch up.
But I don't think this is the end of the world.
So let me ask you, what happened to the Denver defense
in the second half against the immortal Sam Howell at home?
They're struggling.
Their second halfs have been terrible.
Colin, they're 31st in red zone defense.
84% of the time you get in the red zone against Denver,
you're scoring a touchdown.
Not great.
I look up some of the number.
New culture, new...
Well, I mean, they got Randy Gregory.
He's been atrocious.
The cornerback opposite Certains, some kid named Mathis,
graded out as the worst cornerback in the league.
Can't stop anybody.
Kareem Jackson's headhunting in the secondary.
Like, this is bad.
Like, I know we were talking about Peyton and Russell Wilson having their issues,
but you go ahead and give up 30 or something to Justin Fields
and this pathetic Chicago team.
I think Vance Joseph might be fired on Monday.
Like, I don't think you can keep him in there much longer.
can you? Something's got to change.
Well, I think, I don't know.
Colin, this is, Sean Payton's here to clean it up.
You can't start 0-and-4 with a loss to Chicago on the ledger.
That loss of the Raiders is looking bad now.
Well, again, if they get shelled by Chicago, let's have that discussion.
What about just an L? If they don't win.
If they start 0-4 season, we know it's tough.
What if the defense, what if it's 1310, the defense is great?
You can't fire the coordinator.
What the hell's wrong with Russell Wilson?
Well, then that's a second issue.
But again, let me see them play.
Going from Miami and Miami to facing the Bears,
my guess is the defense can look pretty good this week.
He's going to have a pick six.
I don't know.
I'm going to have some sacks.
I think Denver's defense, you're going to wake up money and go,
eh, and defense has a shot here.
Is this angling for a spot in the Blazoned 5?
What?
This game.
It sounds like you like the Broncos.
I am looking at the number.
I'm hoping it comes down a little, but I like Denver.
It's a juice three, so you have to bet like $120 to win $100 as opposed to $110.
My guess is it's going to make the Blazing Five.
I think Denver's going to bounce back.
Listen, I'll say this for the second time.
It's out.
We're friends.
Be careful on this game.
You don't want to go down swinging with one of these two awful franchises.
All right, let's go to Zika Lali.
Spent his first seven seasons in Dallas.
Now he returns to Jerry World with the Patriots.
By the way, Zique had 16 carries for 80 yards against the Jets.
Like, he's getting more and more use of Jeffer week.
Here's how it feels to be a visitor at Jerry World.
I don't have that much time to get emotional.
I got to prepare for a game.
It's definitely going to be weird just being in a different uniform,
being in the visitor's locker room.
I think he's been exactly what we thought he would be.
He's a good number two back.
I think Zeke, we know the juice is gone.
He had like a four-year period where he was great.
Every year got a little worse, little less juice, little at turbo, less turbo.
But I think he's doing for the Patriots what we expected.
I still contend if this team had a little bit of it.
a number one receiver. I mean, Garrett Wilson, Olavé, could be a young, could be a veteran guy.
I think it'd be a really interesting team. I like their defense. I like their run game.
They just don't have the ability to score quickly. And great teams sometimes, they get a freebie.
They get an over-the-top play. They get none. Everything has to be a 12-play drive. I think the
Patriots are a good team missing a really vital component in 2023. And over-the-top play,
We lambasted Belichick for thinking that Juju Smith was going to be his number one.
Remember, he spent a lot of money.
He gave him a bit of a weird deal.
It's like, what are you doing?
He's not a one.
The Chiefs didn't want him.
And then they're not even using him a lot.
He's not getting the targets.
I'm the moron who drafted him in fantasy thinking, okay, there's something here.
No.
He's not doing anything.
By the way, the Chiefs now do what the Patriots used to.
The Chiefs get a guy for a year, gas him up, get productivity, move him, and somebody else pays more, and it doesn't work out.
It's almost like they're buying low and selling high.
Like Kansas City now, you come into our ecosystem.
You'll get a good number.
We'll move off you.
We're able to get productivity out of you for a year.
We don't see you a long-term employee.
And then teams overpay on the other end.
That's what New England did for 20 years.
Now Kansas City is doing it to New England.
Smart dudes in Casey.
A lot of them.
Coach, quarterback, GM owners said smart dudes.
Final story is not great news.
Bryce Young, early struggles,
However, it looks like he's going to go back to the starting lineup this week.
There is a lot of chatter.
He's going to be the starter.
He should.
You know what the line has done.
It's gone toward Minnesota.
Yeah, but you do realize he has nobody to throw.
Well, listen, you can say that all you want.
Andy Dalton had nobody last week and put up like 50, eight passes or whatever, put up yards.
First of all.
Anthony Richardson has Pittman, has a really nice O line, and Anthony's a runner.
C.J. Stroud, Texans went out and found a couple of mid-round guys that
explosive.
Carolina has no
nobody separates.
I don't know.
DJ Shark was
separating against Seattle last week,
buddy.
I know you wanted to defend
Bryce Young.
Like, Andy Dalton played
well last week.
Well, Andy Dalton's been
in the league forever.
He should be at this stage
a little better.
And this leads to our quote
from an NFL executive
about the supporting cast
that you're blasting.
He, meaning Bryce Young,
has nowhere to throw the football.
He's got major leagues
around him and is in
for a long year
if the things working against him
don't get fair.
I do believe at the trade deadline, they should be a buyer.
Oh, what?
Go get a receiver.
By the way, you're not paying Bryce for four years.
Timeout.
They're not paying any of their running backs.
We said this about Justin Fields last year.
Bryce Young's way better than...
Hold on.
Just hold on.
They went out and got Chase Claypool.
Remember, and they gave like a second round pick?
Looks like an awful, awful deal.
Well, who says you have to do an awful deal?
That was an awful deal.
At the time, it looked good.
Chase Claypool, we liked him.
Coming out of Notre Dame hasn't worked out.
You seem to think Carolina's going to be in the mix for a wild card?
No, but what I think is, get somebody now at the trade deadline, work him into the system,
and next year, he's part of the fabric.
You're not expecting that person to come in.
I would rather get a guy that comes in, plays 10 games with my guys, or eight games with my guys,
gets into the system, and then all of a sudden next year, you're not new to the system.
This is a long play for Carolina.
Mingo, is their big draft picket receiver, can't separate.
He's already concussed.
Yeah, it doesn't separate.
They don't have DJ.
more was the guy. So again, they're a little bit like New England, not as good as New England,
but they're like New England. They just don't have a guy on the perimeter. They play defense.
They have a smart coach. Defense is banged up. That's another reason this line's leaking out for the
Vikings. So they don't have a first round pick, which is really, really bad. Okay? It goes to
Chicago. It's going to be a high. A lot of good receivers, two through round six. So do you
consider trading one of your defensive pieces to get a high.
pick back to build the offense.
The defense has been good.
I'll put this out there.
J.C. Horn, really talented guy, but he's always hurt Colin.
I mean, he is.
You're not going to get much for him.
Do you go move Burns?
There's been a lot of talk about him the last two years.
And it's the logic where like, hey, we have a good defense, but who cares?
We can't score.
We're not winning games.
Let's move off defense.
I would be a buyer at the trade deadline if I'm Carolina.
Get guys in for next year.
This is a, you're just trying to get this puppy rolling.
Get guys in for him.
Okay.
I'll float a name.
who's chirping this week, he's unhappy.
Devante Adams.
Oh, I'd take him in one second.
What do I have to give up?
Well, that's the problem.
You've got to give up something.
Good.
He's still elite.
I mean, he had like 170 yards.
No, I would do whatever I could to get Devonty.
Evans or Godwin?
They're going to go south.
Tampa's going to go south.
Chris Godwin, I mean, Tampa, I, listen,
Devonte Adams and Evans are better than Godwin.
Godwin has some injury stuff, but he's good.
Good player.
Yeah.
Those are all good players.
I know you like Bryce Young, Colin.
he's got a massive uphill climb.
Well, hey, you know what?
So did you in your career.
Worked out.
I'm a grinder.
I'm a grinder.
You know that.
So is Bryce Young.
Is he?
First of all, this quarterback class appears to be better than several quarterback
classes that we champion.
I think these guys can all play.
Stroud's been a total pro.
Keep pipe and CJ Stroud.
Tell the audience to go back Houston as we.
Go ahead, Colin.
CJ Stroud's amazing.
He's so good.
He is so on point.
Hey, Mr. Positive over here.
I'm not negative.
Anthony Richardson, by the way, looks like he's going to start this.
You're like Buechre. I love LeBron, I swear.
No, no, no, no.
Bueger is a Lebron hater and he knows it.
Well, let's not label him that.
He jokes about it.
All right, J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herd Lye News.
I got so much stuff today.
I just got piles of notes.
Very exciting.

Yo, of course you know us as the host of the number one rated show in all the sports talk,
the Polly and Tony Fusco show.
Yeah.
Now, the suits at Fox Sports Radio gave us this air time,
because they wanted us to tell you how great our show is.
Why?
Yeah, instead of us doing that, let's just let our millions of fans do the talking.
Yeah, play the tape.
You don't know crap about sports.
I'm like, why am I even own this crap?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
That's the wrong tape.
Wrong tape.
Just forget that.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes.
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
where you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table.
right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Quarterback Shedur-Sanders leads the buffaloes against Caleb Williams and the Trojans.
Oh, baby!
At 10 Eastern, Easton, with Big Noon kickoff back in Boulder.
Then USC Colorado, Saturday at noon, Easter.
That's a big one, baby.
I think it's going to be closer.
I think it's going to be a very close first half.
Second half, I think USC will put up some points.
But Colorado was embarrassed.
Colorado's best players are on the perimeter.
That can be a problem for USC.
If they can block USC up front, Shadur Sanders, get it out.
You know Deion Sanders is looking at that footage thinking,
get rid of the ball and get it out to the perimeter.
USC can get burned.
They get a good pass rush.
Joel Clat told us that yesterday.
I think it's really competitive early.
I'm not sure it is late.
Can I say one thing?
I think Lincoln Riley,
knowing this is going to be a massively watched game,
is going to dial up one or two amazing trick plays.
That's not inside information.
That's just gut watching teams bully Colorado with the line of scrimmage.
They're going to be ready for it.
And then Lincoln Riley is going to cook up some craziness.
By the way, from I am hearing
on Caleb Williams, USC's quarterback,
what I am hearing is
they are going to look at who has the number one pick.
He's making $6 to $7 million a year,
I've been told in NIL.
That's going up to 10.
He's not going to Chicago with that current mess.
I'll just tell you, Arizona scared him.
Chicago, I've been told, not a huge fan of.
There are teams that aren't great, I've been told, he would consider.
He's from the Washington, D.C. area.
I imagine that would be one of them.
You don't have to be a great team.
But I will tell you this.
John Elway said, I'm not going there.
Eli Manning said, I'm not going there.
I am hearing as NIL has exploded.
Shadur Sanders and Caleb Williams, who has the number one pick?
could be a factor.
That's all I'm just saying, just hearing could be a factor.
By the way, you all thought it was the college football fans were.
You thought it was the end of the world.
Remember when occasional players would skip bowl games?
And all the old heads freaked out.
Oh, it's going to ruin college football.
It's got its highest ratings this year.
NIL was going to ruin college football.
Transfer Portal was going to ruin college football.
The NIL is in.
empowering star quarterbacks, especially if they're transformational once in a decade.
I'm just saying, keep your eyes on that stuff.
I am hearing the NIL with Kayla Williams is not going backwards,
and they are deeply concerned about some of these organizations and how poorly they are run,
as they should be.
I'll leave it at that.
Speaking of quarterbacks, let me defend Russell Wilson.
There's an article in the Seattle Times.
and they make the comparison to Ken Griffey.
Had Russell, it says, stayed in Seattle,
he could have faded with grace.
Now he's a man without a city.
And they use Ken Griffey as an example.
Ken Griffey wanted to leave, but he wanted to go to Cincinnati,
and he wanted to go be with his family,
and he is still loved in Seattle.
He's got a statue.
And that Russell will never get a statue in Seattle,
the way he left.
Okay.
So you're comping Ken Griffey Jr.
there's a big difference.
When Ken Griffey arrived, the day he arrived,
he was the star, the man elevated, promoted, marketed, loved.
There was no doubt he was the franchise.
Ken Griffey Jr.
was the greatest, is the greatest, without question,
mariner of all time.
And it was instant, beloved.
Russell Wilson joined a team with a coach,
Pete Carroll with a big brand, big personality.
Soon thereafter, he got a running back with a quirky personality who got a lot of credit
and a defense that was so good it had a nickname.
And very early to the middle of a Seattle career,
Russell Wilson didn't get much credit.
Despite the fact Pete Carroll had been fired twice in the NFL and was 7 and 9, 7 and 9,
and then Russell arrived and they got great really fast.
It never felt like Russell Wilson's team until the end when they used the term.
let Russ cook.
So then Russ gets the Seahawks to two Super Bowls,
a play from winning both.
And two years later, the front office goes to Patrick Mahomes Pro Day.
Three years later, the front office goes to Josh Allen's Pro Day.
So he takes a franchise that was not, certainly not anonymous or poorly run.
I'm not saying that.
Matt Hasselbeck Super Bowl.
Seahucks had always had Steve Large and Jim Zorn, Matt Hasselbeck.
They've always had a little juice, right?
But he takes him to back-to-back Super Bowls, and it was Marshaun Lynch,
or it was Leeds to Boom, or it was Pete Carroll, or it was not until the end, it was Russ.
And the minute it's his team, they're going to pro days for Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
So he didn't feel the love.
I get it.
Ken Griffey was totally different.
Even though Ken Griffey, Jr., was surrounded by really good players, those Mariners teams,
Edgar Martinez.
That's some really good pitchers.
That was Ken's team.
He was the star, marketed, promoted the guy, the man,
from parking spaces to anything you wanted.
And should have been.
But if you don't wrap your arms around a guy and you're getting to Super Bowls,
don't be surprised if they're like, you know, I kind of like to be the guy one time.
Now, with that in Denver comes pressure.
But little love for us.
This is interesting.
Brian Baldinger does a very good job.
He does these things on the interweb where he goes to his iPad and he breaks down plays.
He's very good at this stuff.
And he likes Brock Purdy, Niners quarterback.
A lot of critics out there, Mr. Irrelevant, last guy picked.
It's Shanahan's team.
And Baldinger was on a radio show in San Francisco.
And he said, Brock Purdy reminds him of actually Joe Montana.
Joe Montana, you couldn't rattle him.
And I feel like he's got, I'm not comparing him to Joe Montana.
No, no.
I'm not doing anything like that.
But, you know, he does have that composure.
He does have that poise.
I know certain defensive players, great players, they know when they got their quarterback.
They know when the game is in the bag because of what they're doing to the quarterback.
I never get the feeling no matter what, how many shots he takes or a mistrow, whatever, that you ever have that guy.
That's a dangerous composition if you're trying to defend it.
So let's look at his eight starts.
He's yet to have a bad game for San Francisco.
Eight and O, 68% completion percentage, 1,800 yards, 113 passer rating, 17 to 2 TD to interception ratio.
So San Francisco's had a lot of productive quarterbacks through the years.
Let's compare him to five-niner quarterbacks.
Let's start with Montana and Steve Young.
Now, it's a different era.
Feels a little unfair, but he's significantly better than Joe Montana.
it. Well, that's a long time ago. Let's go to Steve Young, the lefty who ran... Oh, he's way better than
Steve Young. Again, different era. That's not fair. Let's go to some more recent guys who were
very productive. Let's go to Alex Smith. He just not long ago was played in the NFL. Oh, he,
whoa, his first eight starts. Not close. All right, let's go to Kaepernick. He got the league by surprise
running around. Capernick was pretty good. That was recent. But he wasn't as good.
as Purdy and Kaepernak had a lot of fans, still does.
Okay, let's go to Garoppolo.
That was an hour and a half ago.
Oh, he's better than him too.
By a lot.
Let's get over the where he was drafted thing.
Rams have a receiver, Puka Nakua, he's a rookie.
He was drafted in the, I think, fifth round.
He's way better than the round he was drafted in.
So was Tony Romo, Tom Brady, Kurt Warner.
Mark Brunel, Dack Prescott, and Joe Montana.
What are you looking to see to disprove your belief he's no good?
What are the critics waiting for?
He hasn't had a bad game.
Well, Kyle Shanahan is great.
We know that and absolutely makes him better.
Well, the players around him are excellent and make him better.
But it's very possible, like Pooka Nakua, Brady, Dak, cousins.
He was wildly underdrafted.
that is very possible because I've seen it with quarterbacks a dozen times.
The hurt.
