This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast.

Greg Cocell is your guy in one hour.
Well, Dodgers season over.
Bryce Harper has put the brave season in peril.
We don't lead a lot with baseball, but I will say this.
Postseason baseball is a completely different experience than regular season baseball.
You give me a star, Philadelphia, or you give me the Dodgers falling.
It's just a different sport.
I sat yesterday.
It's a different sport.
Yeah.
No Otani, no Yankees, no Dodgers.
We need Bryce Harper in baseball.
Yes, let's start with the Dodgers.
So this morning the headlines are, they got swept.
Dave Roberts manager asleep at the wheel
as Lance Lynn allows a record four home runs in the same inning.
Would Dave Roberts be a genius if he pulled him after three home runs?
The last two years, the Dodgers have 211 regular season wins
and one playoff win.
And they're not alone.
Favorites are getting dominated in the postseason.
It's not the manager, man.
It's not the manager.
A major league baseball regular season is a triathlon, endurance.
The playoffs are a hundred yards sprint.
Analytics used in the regular season are often cast aside in the playoffs because you have to win now.
You see it in the NBA.
3.3.333.
Yes, those numbers work over the course of a long season.
Then you get to the NBA playoffs.
You need a stop in a bucket.
Yannis is really valuable, right?
James Harden not as valuable.
Can't get stopped.
The Dodgers, due to age, a domestic assault, and injuries don't have an ace.
You're not a World Series team.
That's not a World Series team.
Add this, Mookie Bat's a remarkable player, and Freddie Freeman, who's been a tremendous
Dodger in his brief stint here, they had one hit in 21 at bats.
So your two best hitters disappear.
You don't really have an ace, and that's Dave Robbins.
Roberts? That's not Dave Roberts.
Analytics don't account for everything.
And they're in the NBA and baseball.
Analytics over a long season work.
They don't necessarily work in a two, three, four game setting.
It's a sprint, not a triathlon.
You lose your best four starters.
Clayton Kershaw's in what year 16?
Come on.
Got to be realistic.
Justin Verlander once talked about analytics.
He says, I think our culture in Houston is something that's not
necessarily tangible.
For most of the analytic forward teams in baseball, something that makes this team so special
is something that's not necessarily measurable.
That's absolutely true.
It's called culture and clutch.
I'll get to Philly in a second.
You see a lot with them.
But baseball fans have to blame somebody, and especially in Los Angeles.
Your number two pitcher in this series for the Dodgers was pitching in AA baseball last year.
It's not a World Series team.
Major league managers make on average about 1.7 to 1.8 million a year to manage 162 games.
A college football coach makes double that to coach 12.
Why?
Because a manager has very little say with analytics.
He has very little influence on the bottom line.
So no true ace.
Your two best players can't hit.
That's not a Dave Roberts issue.
It's your reality.
That's what the Dodgers were as a postseason team.
Nobody in the postseason without two great bats hitting and no ace is going to win a series.
And in this 100-yard sprint, Diamondbacks were clearly better.
Dave Roberts of the Dodgers taking the blame talks.
There's some things with the format that people can dissect or whatever.
But the bottom line is that, you know, the last two years we've got outplayed in the postseason.
And, you know, it doesn't matter if it was a seven-game series.
you know, we lost the first three games.
The regular season, I think we do a great job,
but, you know, the last couple post-season,
it just hasn't gone well for us.
They hand him to batting order.
Analytics drives the sports, why they don't pay managers anything.
The reality is it's happening all over baseball.
You can be built for the long road trip.
We all know this as parents.
Remember when you were parents and your kids are two,
three, four, five, six years old. You get in the car, you're going to drive to, you know,
mammoth in California. You're going to go skiing. Or you're going to go to a lake and you're
in the car four or five hours. You prepare differently as a parent for a five-hour drive than you do
taking your kid to school. All right. It's the long trip. It's the vacation. That's the reality
of baseball. It is such an absurdly long season. You're built one way. Use analytics regularly.
in the NBA playoffs, you need a bucket.
Give me a mid-range jumper.
Give me Kevin Durant from 18.
Just get me a bucket.
Get me Jason Tatum, drive to the basket.
Give me a bucket in baseball.
Get me an out.
Get me a hit.
It's a sprint.
And the Dodgers didn't have their sprinters.
All right.
So playoff games in Philadelphia,
I got to tell you, I don't know what it is.
I used to feel this way about old Yankee Stadium.
Old Yankee Stadium just felt different.
TV there just felt different.
Look different.
The ghosts.
It's like the Yankees, 7th, 8th, 9th inning.
It's like, oh, the Yankees will figure out a way to win.
It was intimidating.
I mean, baseball stadiums are charming.
Fenway, Wrigley.
They're not intimidating.
The old Yankee Stadium was intimidating.
Like the Yankees came back so many times.
Philadelphia feels like that.
It's almost a football crowd.
It just jumps off the TV.
That game 6-1.
It kept watching 7-1.
kept watching 7-2, kept watching 10-2, didn't turn it off.
And a big part of that is Bryce Harper.
He's got a David Beckham quality.
He's a guy's, guy's cool.
He's alpha.
He's fun.
A little power.
I can't explain it.
I've been watching the Netflix Beckham documentary.
Just love that guy.
And Bryce Harper like Beckham.
Icon star very early age.
Loved, hated.
Boo, bomb.
Great.
I'm telling you, I'm in the interesting business.
That dude is interesting.
They are 8-0, the Phillies.
when Bryce hits a bomb.
He hit two yesterday in the playoffs.
They just don't lose when he's hitting home runs.
He's a couple yesterday.
And I've heard for years on Bryce Harper, there's a way to play the game.
I just don't buy it.
All the old timers bristle at that stuff.
There's three people in baseball.
When they're up, I can't turn it off.
Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper, Shohei Otti.
I cannot turn the television off.
It's the same with golf.
The purists will tell you about Scotty Schaeffler.
Scotty Schaeffler.
He is number one for 50 weeks last two years.
Yeah, I know, but I like Brooks Kepka.
Phil Mickelson, Tiger, Brooks Kepka, get me to a TV.
I can't explain it.
By the way, it's not like Scottie Shephler is that much better than Brooks Kepka.
In big tournaments sometimes, Kepka's the man.
He plays great in big tournaments.
Bryce Harbor gets me to a TV.
He's just a dude's dude.
He feeds off the crowd.
He's got Alpha.
He's not worried about analytics.
I don't even know if he's a good analytic player.
He's a dude's dude.
big, strong best show in baseball.
And I don't know what it is.
But in that stadium, the Braves, the best team in the regular season,
look absolutely small and overwhelmed.
There is a magic about old Yankee Stadium that new Yankee Stadium just doesn't have.
And there is a magic about that place on television.
I can't imagine playing there.
And Bryce Harper talked about it after.
I love this place.
Flat out, I love this place.
there's nothing like coming into the bank and playing in front of these fans.
Blue-collar mentality, tough, fighting every single day.
I get chills, man.
I get so fired up.
I, man, I love this place.
Well, you can see it and they love him.
So, Phillies are making the Braves look small.
The D-Backs made the Dodgers look small.
The great Orioles are toast.
These wild card teams, these underdogs, are having a great postseason.
And don't worry about it.
I'm hearing baseball people say,
whoa,
wild cards win all the time in the NFL.
We had an upset in the NBA playoffs this year.
Miami Heat got to the finals.
Go check out what their seed was.
It's good.
We don't want favorites always winning.
It's what's hurt college football the last 15 years.
That it was always the SEC.
It's always the favorites.
Nobody can win on the road at Georgia or Alabama.
This is great for baseball.
Listen, the Braves are an unbelievable organization.
But this series is interesting.
Because the Braves suddenly looked small and intimidated by the Phillies.
That was great TV yesterday, even though the game wasn't close.
So, Jay Mack, I was all into baseball yesterday, all fired up for it.
And then tonight, it's Denver and Kansas City in what will probably be,
have you seen what Denver's doing, moving off defensive linemen?
What do you think they're doing?
Denver's doing some interesting things with personnel on the defensive side.
I think Sean Payton's probably cleaning out some toxic stuff in the locker room.
I would not be shocked if Denver put up a really good fight tonight.
That's exactly what I think.
I mean, they're probably going to fall down 17, nothing, because that's what the Chiefs do.
And then Denver will fight back, show some fight and ultimately lose, which is what you kind of want, right?
A good showing.
Spirited effort.
We didn't quit.
All those superlatives, the coaches say, I think it'll be an interesting game.
I have a great parlay for you this weekend, thanks to Drafking Sportsbook.
New users, use the code heard.
H-E-R-D when you download the app.
Here's my parlay.
I'll take the Jags at-home minus 4 to win and cover against the Colts, who are going
with a backup quarterback.
Colts out played them in week one.
Jags will not overlook Indy, Jags minus 4.
Seahawks at the Bengals, Cincinnati found their groove.
This game is urgent.
They're in a very tough division.
Every game matters now after a rocky start.
I'll take the Bengals minus 3 to cover.
and the commanders with extra prep off a blowout loss, humiliated, get points two and a half at Atlanta.
Atlanta beat Houston.
I don't think they're better than Houston.
They just beat them.
I'm going to take the commanders plus two and a half.

A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, CliverTaylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.

You're now entering the No Bull Zone, sponsored by credible great rates, none of the Bull.
So Warren Sharp had a tweet yesterday brought to my attention.
He talked about Jerry Jones and the coaches that he has hired,
the last six coaches he has hired.
And it's Chan Gale and Dave Campo and Bill Parcells out of retirement.
Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, 57-year-old Mike McCarthy, outside of Parcells, all men that
needed Jerry Jones.
Similarly, Tony Romo.
By the way, three of those guys were just promoters that were, you know, coordinators
that were just promoted.
So again, Jerry did them a solid.
Similarly, Tony Romo.
Undrafted.
Dak Prescott, fourth round.
Yet Jerry made them quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys because he believed in them and he made them rich and famous and household names.
Thanks to Jerry.
Jerry granted them favors and opportunities to be on America's team.
Nobody believed in you, but I believed in you, Dave Campo.
Mike McCarthy, your phone wasn't ringing.
I believed in you, Dak Prescott.
Even the Mike McCarthy relationship is so odd to me.
like McCarthy.
Remember, he kind of embellished about going in the basement all off season with a group of men every Sunday breaking down the analytics of the NFL when he was out of work.
It's kind of embellished.
And then McCarthy admitted he embellished when he told Jerry when he got the job,
I watched every cowboy play for three years.
And this week there was another gem by McCarthy.
He said it leaked to the media that he is in the facility 20 hours.
hours a day pouring over film of the Niner loss.
I mean, even George Santos is like, could we get a little truth here?
Can we all be a little more honest?
It's a weird relationship.
But Mike, the phone wasn't ringing.
Jerry Jones needs someone that will challenge him.
Jerry Jones wants people to feel like they owe him,
anointing him, elevating him.
I found you.
I believed in you.
I discovered you.
Listen, the Mike McCarthy thing, watch the game. McVeigh, Shanahan, Mike McDaniel.
You see some of these wizards doing stuff offensively.
McCarthy's an offensive coach.
This is a dull, boring offense without much motion, without much clever.
And now Dax's just a pocket quarterback.
It's time, not just for the Belichicks of the world or the Matt Eberfluse of the world,
it's time to ask real questions about Mike McCarthy.
and Jerry Jones.
What you need is a coach like Jimmy and Bill that challenged you.
Not somebody you did a solid for.
J-MAC with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Let's start with these Kirk Cousins rumors.
I don't know how credible they are, but, listen, trade talks are out there about
Kirk Cousins, and now Justin Jefferson's gone on the IR for at least a month.
and there is talk with the trade deadline October 31st that Cousins could be moved.
Here he is responding to the possibility of headed to a different team.
Kirk, is there any scenario where you would waive your no trade clause before the trade deadline?
You know, I'm just very focused on the Bears.
I'm going one and O this week, and anything else is just not worth my time or energy or attention.
That's a perfect answer, by the way.
Very well said.
So we love to talk about his market.
So I basically have three teams.
I want to hear this.
First of all, let's go with the criteria.
What team, not in name, but what situation would pursue Kirk Cousin?
Good question.
And what do you believe that?
A team that thinks if we get to the play, he'll get us to the playoffs, or maybe close
to a play of a seven, eight nine wins.
And once there, hey, anything can happen.
Patrick Wilhams gets hurt in a game.
Maybe cheats are susceptible.
Things happened.
A couple years ago, two wild car teams made the Super Bowl, Bengals and Rams.
You know, wacky things happen, right?
Just got to get into the playoffs.
off. So I got three teams basically for Cousins, Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, and my wild card
would be the Tennessee Titans with Mike Vrable. With that division, I think if they were able to win that
division. Don't I have Tannehill is a more mobile version of Cousins? Tana Hill, he makes so many
mistakes. Do you think Vrable trust him? Well, would he trust Kirk Cousins? I don't know that
he has a choice. Again, that was my wild card. But go ahead. I don't think they, well, I think
The Jets, if Zach Wilson can play at the level he plays at, you're fine.
What level is that, Colin?
Good arm moves well, great understudy, keeps us in games.
With this limited offensive line and weaponry, we're going to win about as much as we should.
I mean, I ask yourself this.
We know Aaron Rogers, I think this is fair to say.
It's been a little thin skin through the years.
You want to bring Kirk Cousins in the building, start winning?
Is Aaron going to hustle to get back?
We know he's not staying.
He's going to have a market out there.
What happens if they start winning with Kirk Cousins?
Well, they will.
The schedule eases up, but we don't know if they're going to win with Zach Wilson.
But in all honesty, you look at the AFC and it's like NFC, everybody thinks San Francisco.
They're the favorite.
They're the team to be.
Who's a team to be in the AFC?
Kansas City.
Okay.
They look unbelievable to you.
Barely get by the jets.
Wide receiver issues.
Call the trade deadline.
And there's some things per color.
Indeed. I mean, Mahomes did go down two years ago against the Browns, and then I think he got hurt last year.
Didn't he get her against the Jags? And Chad Henney had to come in or something? Like, I don't know. Is Kansas City overwhelmingly dominant right now?
No, this is the best defensive version of the Chiefs and the weakest receiving core of the Chiefs.
So I feel like they'll be with Andy Reid and Mahomes right in the thick of the Super Bowl.
But after that, it's like Cincinnati has a lot of questions, Colin.
We don't know Joe Burroughs.
Buffalo Bills have a lot of questions with that defense.
Listen, the only team in the NFL that doesn't have any questions is San Francisco.
Right.
That's it.
That's why I would be looking at Kurt Cousins if I was a head coach in a front office.
You seem lukewarm on Cousin.
I think, I don't know.
I just, I know what it is.
Can I give him a, you're not going to get him for a nickel.
He's going to be expensive.
He's going to want three years.
No, no, no, no.
Hold on.
You're just renting Cousins for the rest of the season.
That's all you're doing.
He weighs the no trade.
shows out with...
So if that's the case, what are you going to get on the market for him?
A fifth round pick?
You get something, and you will then tank if you're Minnesota and get Caleb Williams.
I think he's got him.
I do.
I think he's got a market.
Absolutely.
I think it's a small market, but I think he's got a market.
I think Atlanta's interesting, because if Atlanta can stay in these games and they say,
the bottom line here is we don't...
But you see, in Atlanta can make the argument, how great do we want to be?
We're not a Super Bowl team.
we want a top 10 pick and get a quarterback.
They're not that bad, though.
That's the problem.
The division stinks.
Is Desmond Ritter the future?
Well, let's see what happens this weekend.
If Desmond Ritter blows it against Washington,
I don't know, we'll see.
Next up, Tua Tung of Aloha is currently on pace
to break Peyton Manning's single-season passing record.
Thanks to that, Miami's high-powered offense.
Peyton threw for 5,477 yards in 2013.
Two is currently on track for 54-88.
but he only cares about winning.
That would be cool.
If we don't get to where we want to as a team,
I mean, none of that would mean anything to me.
But along the way, if we could get to where we want to get to as a team
and those statistics could follow in helping win games,
I'd be very happy.
I'd be very unlikely if Tua had the record for the most passing yards.
Well, I don't think there's anything confusing about Tua.
I think everybody watching this show, unless you're just an ardent, over-the-top, unreasonable dolphin fan feels the same way.
The concussion thing hovers over him so long-term contracts can be very punitive.
You don't want to do that.
Mike McDaniel and Tyree Khill or an overwhelming part of his success.
And he is limited as an athlete and a deep ball thrower.
But there are abilities.
like a Brock Purdy with this coach and this offense that work.
They won't work as well once you pay to a fortune
because then you can't have both Waddle and Tyree Kill.
Just like the Cowboys, just like Minnesota.
That Minnesota probably is going to move off one of these young receivers eventually
because they can't pay Justin Jefferson a fortune.
You know, I mean, it's just the way it works.
So I don't think anybody's unrealistic.
I mean, if anybody's talking this guy as a 10-year quarterback,
then you're just a fan boy.
So let me ask you.
We all know the story on two of the good, the bad.
had the indifferent. Is there a similarity between Tua and the dolphins this year and Daniel Jones?
No, no, no, no, wait, let me just say. Daniel Jones had Brian Dable, super sharp guy, left Josh Allen,
you know, made Josh Allen a little bit awesome. McDaniel is with Tua. Both were top 10 picks.
I know we agreed Tua was a better prospect, a better quarterback, but like you just said,
let's say he breaks the record. They win 12 games. Are you paying him $45 million a year?
I think Daniel Jones was an absolute reach as a top.
10 pick. Tua, though I didn't think was Drew Brees, was a reasonable pick. In fact,
I know this. I know two GMs that had Tua above Justin Herbert. People liked Tua.
They thought the Drew B. He was in the mix for number one. Daniel Jones, when that got picked,
I had a scout saying, whoa, he's like a 24th pick first round or top second. Like,
so I don't think Daniel Jones to me gets in the way of winning. Tua with protection can elevate
a team. Last year, Daniel Jones
charmed life. I get it. But I'm just saying,
if Tua breaks this record or is close,
and they win 12 games and make a playoff run,
he's going to ask for $45 million a year, Colin.
Well, I can't do that. Okay, well, the Giants did it for Jones.
Well, that's because the Giants made a big mistake.
And as we called out,
I don't think I would pay to a $45 million.
Would it be a mistake if Tua got $45 million?
Yes. Well, and like for four or five years, I think it's a mistake.
And it's okay. You can say that.
You can't play both sides.
You can't say if Tua gets a concussion, the career should be over, and then demand he gets the contract.
You can't be an NBA reporter.
Well, how about this?
Where you want everything for the star player.
If you're arguing one more concussion, his career should be over or consider retirement,
then you're acknowledging you can't pay him 45 a year for four years.
And then how does Tua sit there and say, sure, I'll take a $35 million a year deal.
I'm making less than Daniel Jones.
Are you kidding me?
From Tua's point of view, like, you can't do that, can he?
I don't think Tua is a money-driven guy.
That's my tech.
We don't.
We don't, you don't.
I don't think he is.
And he's fully healthy?
I don't think he is.
I don't think Justin Herbert, Tua, are money-driven guys.
Can you see Tua looking at his friends and family and teammates and saying, I took less money than Daniel Jones?
Can he look at his parents after he bought him a mansion and said, I took a little less than Daniel Jones?
And I'm really happy in a state with no state tax instead of cold weather and the highest tax.
and the highest tax state and losing, I'm winning.
There's a lot of value to living in Miami with a great coach on the beach,
aqua water, wonderful place to live, no state tax.
When De Wade went from the heat to the Bulls, I'm like, D. Wade, you're going to be up there.
And I love Chicago.
You're going to be up there an hour with that dysfunctional organization and go,
I miss Spolster and Pat Riley.
Miami's a great play.
With Mike McDaniel, I'm a quarterback.
I would love to play in Miami.
I like Miami anyway.
But you talk about a selling, if you don't think athletes care about weather, you never have to play in a blizzard, New York's tax and you have city tax, state tax, I mean, it's just, it all matters.
And cold weather, windy weather, longer drives. Miami's in the Tua, I would take less.
That's going to be a fun February, March topic on the show. I'm already excited.
Final story is about Colorado and Shadur Sanders. So Colorado got off to that hot start.
and Chador Sanders was everybody's favorite player.
According to a website called On 3,
are you ready for this?
Yeah, on 3 is a legitimate site.
Yeah, Shadour Sanders has the highest NIL valuation at $4.8 million.
Now, again, valuation is the key word.
Colin, he's way higher than Arch Manning,
who I don't know if he's played a snap this year for the Longhors, 2.8.
Caleb Williams, the best player in college football.
football 2.7. And Travis Hunter, the cornerback wide receiver for Colorado. So let me defend
Shadur Sanders. No, you don't need to defend him. Okay. Why would he be worth more than Caleb Williams?
Because part of what Caleb Williams is part of is one of the biggest brands in the history of
college sports, USC. So as great as Caleb Williams is, USC has won national championships with a
bunch of different coaches. Shadour Sanders and his dad are Colorado football. They are so
they leave tomorrow, they go back to winning two games. USC, if Caleb goes pro, is still going to win
10 games next year because they have Lincoln Riley, they're USC, they get four-star players.
So as great as Caleb is, we've talked about this before. What is the value for certain people
at certain places? Right? Like you can talk about, I've worked at companies where people are very
replaceable. I worked at a Disney company. And a lot of people,
were very replaceable. It's a massive company.
At Fox, the Simpsons, early Terry Bradshaw, when we got the NFL at Fox and the Simpsons,
those two things were the company. Fox News now is a huge, the bigger the company,
sometimes the less valuable, the individual employee.
So Colorado football is defined now by a dad and his son.
USC football is great as Caleb is. They got a five-star kid that's going to
play next year. Right. But again,
NIL valuation. If I'm
putting, you know, and I'm someone looking
who am I going to hire is my pitch man
from my product in NIL?
Are you going to Shadur Sanders and paying
top dollar because it looks like he commands it?
Or Caleb Williams here in the USC
L.A. market, who's, I don't know,
one of the bigger sports guys
out here in L.A. I know there's LeBron and
Matt Stafford and all these guys.
I just, I have an issue with this valuation.
I mean, to me, it's a little bit high
for Shadour. And lower.
on Caleb. By the way, if you go look at baseball, you got guys making money that are barely
healthy. You got guys you're paying a fortune to that can't get a hit in the postseason.
I got no problem with a college quarterback who is redefining a college program making 480 a year.
I got no problem with it. None. I hope I framed that correctly. I don't have a problem with it.
You think the valuation. I think Caleb Williams's valuation should be higher than Shadur's
I mean, I would have guessed Caleb over Shadur, but that doesn't surprise me.
I would have guessed both were over five, to be honest.
I mean, Colorado's going to end up 500 maybe?
By the way, when people...
Sudhir's ain't winning the Hidesman.
When people talk about valuations, I think it's so funny.
This is a topic when I used to work at the other place in here.
People say, what are the Dallas Cowboys worth?
Oh, their valuation on Forbes is $6.7 billion.
No, it's not.
It's $12 billion.
If some oil money overseas said, we went into the NFL market, and Jerry said,
I want $12 billion.
They would pay it.
Now, that's not going to happen.
But your valuation is if Delta Airlines says we want to get into college athletics and represent the big, well, it depends on Delta stock price.
If it goes on a six-week run, they'll fine $10 million.
If not, they'll argue for three.
So the reality is valuation.
It's like the real estate market is a little bit like this.
I was going to mention that.
Sometimes people want waterfront and they don't care.
Right now?
We've been house shopping for a while.
It stinks.
It's the worst thing.
I would have some other choice words.
But I'll just say everybody thinks their house is worth everything.
Well, no, it's worth what somebody's willing to pay.
That's right.
And I'm not willing to pay that.
So lower your price.
So if Caleb, maybe the valuation's higher for Shadur, because Caleb's leaving.
And if you can get in on Shadur, you can get in the rest of this year and next year if you're Delta Airlines.
And Shadur sticks around.
You're right.
Yeah, that's a good point.
There's a lot of different.
But whenever I see valuations of what a team's worth or what, it's all nonsense.
It's worth what somebody from a country with a lot of oil underneath their land is willing to pay.
Jay Mackle News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Line News.
Look at this.
Look at the live tour in golf.
Did you ever think in your life the biggest names in golf would say,
I'm going to play for the PGA tour?
How much are you going to pay Phil Mickelson?
$200 million.
What?
What was his valuation?
Well, I mean, the PGA didn't value Phil Mickelson and even $100 million.
They didn't pay him to go play tournaments.
LIV tours like, yeah, we'll pay him a couple hundred million.
What's the valuation?
What a rich cat's willing to pay for it?
Oh, oh, oh, I saw this.
This is interesting for me.
So Joe Dumar's great player, GM of the Pistons years ago.
So there's been this, the NBA media.
and I understand why, but they're perpetually enabling the stars, coddling the stars, protective
is how I would call the NBA media.
Don't want to offend the five or six big agents, maybe it's two or three.
NFL media is harsh.
Baseball media can be harsh.
NBA media tends to be protective.
They want to protect the agent, stars four or five of both run the league.
But Joe Dumars, NBA executive VP, head of basketball operations, said this, that the NBA has gone deep
into data. He said, I think it was a given conclusion that data showed you had to rest players,
right, to get a better performance. Joe Dumar said, no, we've gotten more data. It doesn't show
that resting and sitting guys out correlates with lack of injuries or fatigue. He said it does show
guys may not be quite as efficient in the second night of back-to-backs, but in terms of injuries,
what we thought prior, we got more data. It's not holding up. Will the NBA
media now, acknowledge that and stop pushing the narrative that everybody needs a lot of games off.
This Kauai model is nonsense. It's bad for fans. It's bad for the team. I've been told by a source
that I absolutely implicitly trust that Kauai is hard on the team. You get a call at 345. I'm not
playing. Thank God, Tailu is a great coach. It's a lot to manage. It's bad for the league. It's bad for the
fans, it's bad for the locker room.
Load management is a lot like a fad diet.
What do they call that?
The keto diet?
Keto diet.
Remember the keto diet?
Are they still doing that?
Yeah, the keto diet was eat lots of bacon and put butter in your coffee.
I don't know.
That doesn't sound like a long vision for a healthy life.
Oh, look at, they've got new studies out on that diet.
And yeah, it's not great for cardiovascular health.
shocking, butter in your coffee and bacon.
And this load management felt like a fad diet.
And I am all forgiving LeBron.
Ray Allen, D. Wade, at the end of their careers.
I got no problem, rest in old guys.
I'd go to LeBron and say, pick 12 games, you don't want to play.
You can take a road trip off.
I got no problem managing young centers games or old stars games.
No problem.
But I mean, because I think the season's a tad long, and I think seven games
series in the first and second round are ridiculous.
It kills urgency.
Come on, let's have a short series.
Three games first round, five games, second round, seven, seven for the conference championships
in the finals, seven games earlys, too many games.
You wear players out.
I want my guys rested, healthy, energized, got their juice in the playoffs.
Don't wear them out in the first round.
It gets a cruddy team.
But let's stop this 24-7 coddling that's these guys need, you don't need rest.
From 24 to 31, 82 games together.
try to get the 74, 75 games.
I really do not have a problem.
I think the season's too long.
I would have no problem going as a GM and a coach to every player in the locker room.
You pick six games.
Pick six games you don't want to play.
I want you to play like 74.
I have no problem with that.
But, you know, Travis Kelsey is going to probably play tonight for Kansas City.
He's hurt again.
If you want to play when you're 100% healthy as a pro athlete, good luck.
So the data is.
is showing, like we see Draymond Green and older players.
I got no problem given Steph Curry six games off.
Draymond Green eight.
Defensive guys.
Again, I am not, I think the season's too long.
But this thing is out of control.
And it's not only bad for fans.
It's not only bad for the league.
It's not good for teams.
There's not enough chemistry.
Like we've seen this with the Clippers.
We're like, yeah, I like all their players.
We saw this for the Sixers when it was like Ben Simmons or Hardener.
Yeah, I really like their players.
We saw it with Brooklyn.
Kyrie, Hardin, KD.
I like their players.
Oh, they played eight games total together.
It's not good for the team.
You've got to know timing, culture, chemistry.
So the data is proving you may be a little less efficient on a back-to-back.
It doesn't have much to do with fatigue and injuries.
I mean, again, I don't want to go old school, old head guy, but Jordan played a lot of full seasons.
and was relentless when it mattered all through the playoffs.
And by the way, nutrition and training is much better now than Michael's era.
And Michael was money and a machine every night in the playoffs after a long season and playing every game.
Let me ask you.
How much regular season do you watch?
Do you think fans lock in full games?
I'm a small town kid.
So I'd go to a Sonics game a year.
We didn't have any money.
The idea of going to a Sonics game and downtown Freddie Brown and Gus Williams took the night off,
give me a break.
I hear this all the time.
Well, you can watch it on TV.
Most fans that go to NBA games do not sip $22 cocktails at the Staples and sit in the front row.
90% are people upstairs that can afford one game a year.
Go play the games.
By the way, I love that attitude.
I just remind people that Larry Bird was basically broken down.
His body was physically cooked at 32.
Isaiah Thomas had an injury at like 31, 32, and he was done.
These guys were done in their early 30s.
I would much rather have Curry skip some meaningless regular season games and then play at 35 at a massive awesome level.
LeBron?
What is he?
39?
I want that.
I don't care.
I'm sorry about February, Portland and Lakers.
I'm not saying you have to play every game.
I'd go to all my.
I think the C, I've said up before, I think it should be a 72 to 68 game schedule, three game first round, five second, seven, seven.
I'm with you.
But since we have an 82 game,
I think the NFL was better.
When I was a kid, it was 14 games.
I think the NFL would be better at 14 than 17.
We'd have less injuries.
But we have a 17 gamer.
And we have an 82 gamer.
So play.
You get paid to play, go play.
And I love the line.
Oh, Michael Jordan played 82, like seven years in a row.
He retired twice.
Okay, but let me ask you this.
LeBron's almost had double the career.
Let me ask you this.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he lasted 20.
Some of it's just the reality of bodies.
So you can say, well,
Well, Kareem played forever.
He's in a life.
Clearly not.
By the way, Michael Jordan could have kept playing.
He got exhausted.
No, I did.
Michael Jordan retired for baseball because he wanted to pursue it the death of his father.
He could have played those years.
He also could have kept playing.
He went to Washington for two years.
He was their best player.
Michael could have played for another six years.
But he had a massive Nike business.
He loved golf.
And he was so famous.
We didn't have TikTok.
We didn't have this.
The bottom line is, I see LeBron every single day.
As big as star as he is, I've bumped into him twice.
People around him are not in shock and awe.
Michael Jordan was so private.
You didn't have any of the social stuff.
If you saw him in public, he couldn't go to a restaurant.
He couldn't drive through traffic.
As big as stars are now, we get so much of all these stars.
They're allowed to go out in public.
Now, you know, if you're Justin Bieber and you go to a mall with teenage girls 10 years ago,
be warned that'll be over the top.
But Jordan, a lot of Jordan, was just like, I'm,
got $300 million in the bank and Nike deal that's going to pay me forever, I'm done with it.
I got my titles.
I'm going to go golf.
And I get that.
LeBron's not a golfer.
LeBron loves basketball.
So it's, and I don't want to be old guy, you need to play every night.
That's not who I am.
I would go to Yonnes and say eight games, you pick him.
And then, by the way, if he gets hurt and has to admit another eight, I'm good with
it.
But taking a Saturday night off at home, a Saturday night game for a kid drunk.
you're paid to play.
Give me a break.
Those Saturday night games,
kids can't go to a lot of those games because
school night.
So what's better?
Take the road games off?
Take the road.
So take some road.
I mean, I think you should reward your home fans.
But then they get crushed.
Oh, Steph Curry comes to town once a year.
He goes to Memphis once a year and he doesn't play.
Boo.
Because the lower bowl is full of Steph Curry jerseys.
Well,
more jerseys than job.
You know, the bigger issue with Memphis,
John Morant, get your act together and you'll be available,
play all games at home.
Maybe John Morant get your act together.
It's not Steph's responsibility to sell tickets from Memphis.
It's John Morant's responsibility to be available for his team and grow up.
That's not Steph's fault.
Again, I am pro player in the NBA.
International soccer NBA players mean more.
Rinaldo, Messi in their prime.
Load management is a lot of you know what.
Take a break back in a second.

Catch game one Sunday on Fox.
Report, a report.
It's almost like a talk show host yesterday suggested this.
Broncos open to trading Cortland Sutton and Jerry Judy.
What did we talk about yesterday?
So there are, I think it's smart.
There are certain NFL positions that you just avoid trading.
It's really hard to find great players.
Quarterback, obviously, left tackle, dominating defensive tackle.
They call it in the NFL the planet theory termed by George Young,
the great New York Giants, former GM.
The planet theory is the planet only creates so many six foot, six and a half,
320 pound men with agile feet.
There's just a limitation on gigantic men with length, power, and agility.
You know, you probably don't want to move off Reggie White or Aaron Donald in his prime
or Fletcher Cox or, you know, Chris Jones, beware.
Wide receiver, those interesting.
And it's interesting for a lot of reasons.
They're a position I would move into sometimes but off of frequent.
The reason being is Calvin Johnson was 6-5-2-35 in great and Tyreek Hill is 510-190 in great.
All shapes, all sizes.
Some are small, some are lean and skinny, some are thick and quond-boldened, some aren't even fast.
Pooka Nukua now is tearing up the NFL.
Why?
Because he's very clever and fine space in zones.
And since the NFL now overwhelmingly plays zone defense, speed, speed alone isn't as valuable as it used to be.
although Tyreek Hill is amazing, he's the fastest guy in the league,
but it's more valuable to have multiple guys on a staff that are smart
and can figure out crevices in a zone because everybody plays it.
And so I think if you are Denver, Patrick Sertan, people are saying,
the corner, what could you get for them?
Remember, there is a shortage of corners in the NFL.
Everybody wants a great one, and there's about four.
And Patrick Sartan is one of them.
and Albert Breer talked about this yesterday on our show.
I don't even know what you would offer for someone like Sartan,
but the Broncos need picks, so they're going to listen on everybody.
I don't think they move Sartan.
I think Sertan's a building block for them going forward.
I certainly think that guys like, you know, Judy and Sutton and Gareth Bowles
and Justin Simmons and Josie Jules would be in play,
you'd have to give them a lot to get Sartan.
Yeah, it's just, I've, you know, I'm sure you've talked.
to people in the league and they're like every team, it's not that hard to have two great receivers
and two others that are capable. Try to find a second great corner. Like the jets have them.
And that's about it. Like the Broncos have Cirtan, the other one's not working. It is hard.
And I think a lot of it is, it's a glamour position. And young kids are always on the forefront of
cultural changes. Could be shoes. It could be football. The money now, quarterback, wide receiver,
and great edge rusher. That's who's getting paid. California high school football, you can't find
great running backs. Sixty great receivers a year. Hour to next, Greg Kosell.
