Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection. And most people would step up for a neighbor going through a tough time.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Most people around here help out friends and family when they need it. But the funny thing is, most of us won't look for help when we need it. Talk to someone if you're struggling with mental health. Because most people out here really care. Find more information at Love Your Mind. That's loveyourmind today.org. Brought to you by the Huntsman Mental Health Institute and the Ad Council. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast.

Find your local station for the herd at foxportsredio.com or stream us live every day in the iHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go. It is a, what is it, a Wednesday, a Thursday. I forget what day it is. Midweek Wednesday. It's great. It's the herd. We're live. We're in Chicago. I got to tell you, we have a show today. I got so many things to talk about. And a story is developing, and I do not get the story. Good to see you. Warming up in Chicago. I almost wore cargo pants to work today. So Clint Kubiak is the new coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I like to hire.
Starting point is 00:03:08 He was quoted yesterday saying, hey, I got to watch a lot of tape to determine who's going to be the number one pick. Clint, I've seen the tape. Draft Fernando Mendoza. What is happening over the last 48 hours on people I am talking to in the NFL is crazy. I'm getting real pushback. on Fernando Mendoza as an A quarterback prospect. The last time I got this much pushback on a quarterback I loved, and a lot of people in the league were a little cool on him,
Starting point is 00:03:43 maybe you've heard of him, Sam Darnold. Usually I agree with people. I always call on people. But the majority opinion I am hearing in the league is he is a good prospect, but Indiana football is about Kurt Zignetti. what a crock that is. And I like Kirk Signetti. Indiana loses three games this year, minimum without Fernando Mendoza. Miami, Ohio State, and Penn State. Not one in those games. And I would argue maybe five losses. They trailed Iowa in the fourth and were tied with Oregon at Otson in the fourth. Maybe they win those. Maybe they don't. But you could have had five losses without Mendoza. And a lot of Indiana fans, and by By the way, Indiana football fan, you've mattered for 20 minutes. Lose the arrogance.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You're not Oklahoma. You're not Ohio State. You're not Notre Dame. You're Indiana. You're a basketball school with a couple rich boosters. I didn't buy you last year. I called you fraud because you were because you had the number two scoring offense in the country and you built it up against a bunch of, you know, Panera breads in the out of conference.
Starting point is 00:04:51 Last year, they hung. This is pre-Mendoza. Indiana hung seven. 77 on Western Illinois, 52 on something called Charlotte, and 66 on per don't. You average 53 and a half points in your out of conference games. So you thought that was a real flex. And then you played Ohio State and had 150 yards offense. And you played Notre Dame and you trailed 20 to 3 in the fourth before some garbage stats.
Starting point is 00:05:20 And you played a bad Michigan team and you had 40 yards rushing. You don't matter. You had a great season and a great team. team. The year before, I stand by everything I said. You're fools gold. You played a bad Michigan team. They pushed you around. You couldn't move. You couldn't run the ball. And then Fernando Mendoza arrives and you drop, you know, 38 on Bama and 66 on a very, very good Illinois team and 50 plus on Oregon in the, in the playoff or whatever it was.
Starting point is 00:05:51 That's a legitimate team. 16 and O is a legitimate team. So I don't want to hear about all whiny Indiana football fans, and we got a lot of them in the Fox building. Oh, whiners, a year ago, you said, I said the truth. You crushed Western Illinois. I don't even, I mean, I live in Illinois. I thought Western Illinois was Indiana. Is it a school that's on an island in the, in the Lake Michigan? Well, what is Western Illinois?
Starting point is 00:06:20 Charlotte? Well, what is that? This year, you go to Penn State. You go to Otson. You're crushing Alabama. You're rolling people. You're beating Ohio State. You were totally legitimate.
Starting point is 00:06:33 That's not Signetti alone. If quarterback doesn't matter, and it's all about Signetti, then Kurt Signetti is the only coach in the history of football, AFL, NFL, NFL, college football, Division 1 through Division 13, where quarterback really doesn't have that much of an impact. Yeah, I'm going to say it does. And I thought last year, a lot of that stuff last year with Indiana was cotton candy scheduling. When they faced the big boys, it was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that Notre Dame game,
Starting point is 00:07:00 they're punting in their own territory. They're punting it like the, what are they punning like the Notre Dame 45 or something? You're like, yeah, give me a break. I mean, give me, you guys have, I mean, everybody's got amnesia. This year's Indiana, yikes. They were legit. But like any team, they were very reliant on a great quarterback. And I am getting so much pushback on Fernando Mendoza, and I don't get it.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Big, accurate, moves, humble, gratitude. I don't get it. I watched them at Penn State. I marched them against Ohio State. I watched them against Miami's defense. He's unbelievable. And nobody loves him. Everybody likes him.
Starting point is 00:07:42 My guy Todd McShay said this yesterday on the show. Talent is talent, right? And I really like Fernando Mendoza. He's tall. He's 65, 220. He's got mobility for his size. he's got a lot of energy on the ball, and he's smart. But he's not, if we're talking physically, he's not some of the guys we've seen in the last few drafts.
Starting point is 00:08:04 He's not Caleb. He's not Jaden. He's not Drake. He's not even Cam Ward. So there's that to unpack. I like Cam Ward. Fernando Mendoza's not a better prospect than Cam Ward? I'm telling you.
Starting point is 00:08:24 I don't understand. What's the worst? Will Ferrell line. You people are taking crazy pills. I'm not saying he's Andrew Locke. I'm not saying he's John Elway. I'm not saying he has the horsepower of Caleb. I'm not saying as a prospect. He's Josh Allen who Mel Kuyper called a top 10 prospect there. I'm not saying that. But I, Kurt Signetti's great. Kurt Signetti had a BB gun offense the year before Mendoza arrived. It was a water pistol. I mean, they were dominating, you know, directional schools. This year, they were kicking Alabama's butt.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Okay? Yeah, the NIO got them a few more good players. No question. A couple edge rushers. One was hurt, though. Got hurt. But I, it's, folks, every, go look at Belichick without Brady. Every coach of the history of all.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Go look at Bruce Ariens when he had Brady. And when he had Carson Palmer, and then look at Bruce Ariens when he didn't. And Bruce Ariens, a great coach. Every coach is driven by their quarterback. a back play. And he reads unbelievable. He's way better with my homes. Okay. So that that just throws me for a loop. I get off the phone the last two days and I'm like, man, I like this guy way more than everybody else. There's so much I like about it. Okay. You get me worked up on this stuff. The draft doesn't even until April and I'm having, you know, I'm going nuts over here. Maybe it's the coffee. Okay. So last, Spurs play the Lakers. Two nights ago it was OKC Lakers. So two truths
Starting point is 00:10:05 were on display. Number one is NBA fix your product. Luca, LeBron, and Austin Reeves were not available. What a crappy product. You're a kid. You go to a game. You live in Palmdale. You go to one game a year. And you don't get LeBron, Luca.
Starting point is 00:10:21 And by the way, the Warriors play tonight. No staff. No Jimmy Butler. Butler's injured. But give me a break. Bad product. Here's everything in the NBA's a yeah, but. Oh, we got to go watch the team tonight. Yeah, but so-and-so's not playing. I mean, in the NFL, you always get the stars, right? And that sport, they tackle each other. Here's the other truth. Those new wealthy Laker owners, this is going to hurt for J-Mack. They have watched the last two nights. OKC come into town and the Spurs come into town.
Starting point is 00:10:52 And those two rosters compared to the Lakers, depth, length, defenders, multiple scores. guys that aren't old and sleepy and can't play back to back. Those rosters are the best two rosters in the NBA, and those new Laker owners are watching those two teams waltz into crypto arena, and the Lakers look a mile away, a mile away. And you could say, well, the Lakers got injuries. The new Laker owners own the Dodgers. The last two years, the 2025 Dodgers,
Starting point is 00:11:28 top the record. set by the 2024 Dodgers in pitchers used for a World Series winning team. The Dodgers have been beat up for two years. They're not interested in the excuses. Lucas 27 is supposed to be in his prime. Why has his game gotten more cerebral than athletic? Why has he hurt so much? Because Wimby's not in his prime, five years younger, and he is a mile better than Luca right now
Starting point is 00:11:53 because he actually plays defense, rim protector, runs the floor, does everything well. So those new Laker owners walked into this organization, and the last two nights, they have seen the league's truth. The Gap, Wemby had 37 at half. He could have scored 70. He could have done whatever. I mean, they scored, what do they score? How many points they have at halftime?
Starting point is 00:12:20 74 points at halftime or something like that? I mean, Spurs were just doing whatever they wanted to. And everybody tells me about Luca, and I like Luca, but he's 27. The game's not as vertical. I'm sorry he doesn't once again look to be in the best shape. So people say, well, the Lakers have cap space. It is not a transactional league like that anymore. It's a draft and develop league.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Look at the Pistons. Look at the Spurs. Look at OKC. Three best teams in the league. It is a draft and developed league. The sharp young GMs are crushing. So I got to tell you, the last two nights, and crypto is a perfect sponsor for the Lakers facility.
Starting point is 00:12:59 bloated valuation. Fools gold, buying into gold and purple. You know, in crypto, they called a rug pull. They called a rug pull when the price craters. Lakers need a rug pull. Their GM Rug Polinka. He may need to get pulled.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Lakers against winning teams, 11 and 13. against winning teams, they're not good. Oh, they're unbelievable against the Wizards. So I said it yesterday. J.J. Reddick, love him. Luca, like him a lot. Everybody else, Wreckingball. Those new Laker owners, those cats,
Starting point is 00:13:49 they're moving off Cody Bellinger, Manny Machado, Scott Seeger, Trey Turner. Those are great players. That was like Hall of Fame. I mean, Manny Machado's going to make the Hall of Fame. They're moving off those guys. I mean, you watch the Spurs and the OKC. They both have more draft capital.
Starting point is 00:14:07 They have more good players, great benches, unbelievable twitchy defenders and length. And they have like each five or six ascending players. Who's ascending on the Lakers? It's not Luca. I'll argue all day long it's not Luca. Lucas's great. He's not ascending. His game has gotten more a little bit more cerebral, which is great.
Starting point is 00:14:28 but it's not quite as athletic as three years ago, which would worry me because he's 27. Yeah, my bad. Spurs had 84 points at halftime. Well, Colin, this guy didn't play and this guy didn't play and this guy didn't play. Those Dodgers owners, I mean, those guys have been winning World Series titles using 40 pitchers. I mean, they're just basically trying to figure out who's available for the eighth inning, you know, in your divisional round playoff series. They're running out of guys.
Starting point is 00:15:00 Here's Wemby on his performance last night. This kind of games, you got to have the greed. In every game, you have to have this greed, you know, to want more every time. Because, you know, at all times, it doesn't matter who's in the court. There's somebody who's going to want to stop you from doing what you do up there. So you got to be greedy. Greg Kosell in 45 minutes. J-Mack, there's no reason to go into play-by-play on OKC.
Starting point is 00:15:30 and San Antonio. But when you look at those two rosters, you look at that. I mean, the Spurs just come in and Castle got hurt in top of the second quarter. But when you look at those rosters, you're just like, wow, young, and those teams have draft capital galore. Yeah. So I was at the game last night, and, you know, we walk into the arena. We know who's out for the Lakers. And we look at the first half line, and it was only Spurs minus seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Now, that was what I wish I had loaded up for. It was like they were up 30 at halftime. It was a bloodbath. The Lakers, not competitive. The guy who's probably a little nervous right now, Colin, and we talked about this yesterday, it's probably Rob Polinka. I mean, listen, I like the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:16:14 I think they're going to be fine this season and do well in the postseason. But Rob, that roster looked really exposed last night compared to the Spurs, whose bench players were miles better. I mean, Carter Bryant, the rookie from Arizona, the young kid, he was awesome. I mean, you should have seen him in the dunk line before the game.
Starting point is 00:16:32 I was like, wow, who's this guy? Spurs are loaded. They're going to be my pick. They're officially my pick to win the NBA title. Yeah, I think so, too. I mean, they just, you know, these NBA champs, they have their starting five. They have their three to four man rotation. The Spurs walk into town.
Starting point is 00:16:46 And if Wemby's playing, it's the same starting five. It's the same four guys in a rotation. They're well, they've been well run forever. Yeah. But when you watch Wembe's upside, again, you can say, well, the Lakers were missing, bang, bang, well, that's because LeBron can't play back to back. That's because Luke over the last three years is always dinged up. Austin Reeves, not 100%.
Starting point is 00:17:04 And, you know, so it's like, you know, it's funny. The Spurs are healthy. OKC's always healthy. If it wasn't for flu, the last two nights, you'd have everybody else. When you have young players in their prime who are in great shape all the time, they don't get hurt as much. It's great. Anthony Davis can't stay healthy. Why would that be in his entire career?
Starting point is 00:17:23 And I love Anthony Davis, one of the best defensive players in my lifetime. AD is in his prime. It's one of the great defensive players I've ever seen. I said it two years ago or last year. Should have been defensive player of the year. Unbelievable talent. Never healthy. What was the knock on him?
Starting point is 00:17:39 Not in great shape. I mean, you know, now I'm not saying you have to be in D. Wade and LeBron's shape, but the guys that get dinged up a lot, it's not just coincidence. I don't buy that. All right. You get me worked up on this stuff, Jay Mack.
Starting point is 00:17:53 I love how fired up you are. That Lakers rant was epic. I mean, listen, they're going to be fine, but your rant was a plight. Plus, good stuff. Oh, I really appreciate that. Was it a neurogum kind of morning? Are you back on that stuff? You know, I flew cross-country last night. Yes, I'm aware.
Starting point is 00:18:06 And that strangest thing happened. So I'm on the flight next to a guy. He's a big guy. You know, I don't talk much on flights. I get in, I sit down, I put in the pods. I stream, whatever, you know, go on Starlink or whatever, United Airlines. I don't talk a lot. All of a sudden, about an hour into the flight, the guy gets up. I'm thinking going to the bathroom. He disappears.
Starting point is 00:18:28 it's a full flight. I'm like, where'd he go? And so I kept looking for about 10 minutes of bathroom. And I got up to stress, but I looked in the back. I'm like, he's not on the plane. And I'm like, we got a DB Cooper situation here. Somebody jumped out the back of the plane. And then about five minutes before we land, he walks up and since next to me.
Starting point is 00:18:47 And I said, uh, he was a little concerned. Where'd you go? He's got, I had a buddy. I was texting. He was the back of the plane. And I'm like, yeah, I'm telling you right now. I was like, who had a parachute? I tried to identify everybody in first class.
Starting point is 00:19:01 I got a DB Cooper thing. I'm looking around it. I want to ID people to make sure, you know, I got my act together here. It was a wild night flying home. I didn't even, you know, I wasn't popping cocktails. I was ginger a railing all the way home. I got DB Cooper next to me.
Starting point is 00:19:17 It was crazy. FBI has issued a warning letter, a warning letting everyone know that scammers have developed a sophisticated method for impersonating, your bank. Cyber criminals, you know, they're manipulating AI to populate online search results, fake contact info. Hey, it's a mess out there. A lot of places can accidentally expose your personal info. LifeLock monitors millions of data points a second for risk of your identity, like loans taken out in your name. If you become a victim and I have, check it out.

Protect yourself with LifeLock up to 40% off year one promo code Herd, H-E-R-D, go 1-800-Liflock or head to LifeLock.com, H-E-R-D. I'm telling you, we landed last night. I was just, I was happy the guy next to me was okay. I'm sitting here worried about America. A lot of people fly selfishly.
Starting point is 00:20:21 I'm part of the community on my flight. It's the herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Stygots here. I have a podcast empire. It continues to grow. What's the news, Nick? Huge news. We created our own
Starting point is 00:21:42 podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how did we? how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:22:14 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title. for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please!
Starting point is 00:22:43 But there's so much more to me than me. I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives. helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Sike, I'm a comedian! I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Cream a chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit.
Starting point is 00:23:22 This is help from a hypocrite. The worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network available on the I-Hart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shake my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:23:47 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually meet people in connection.
Starting point is 00:24:17 If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. This podcast is for you. To hear more, listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Norsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They hold him Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives. show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:55 On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real House Wise franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:25:33 And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night bases on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, After you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, welcome back.
Starting point is 00:26:37 I saw this story this morning. This got me worked up, too. I want to defend Caleb William Bears quarterback because I saw the story. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the betting favorite to win MVP next year. and I can hear everybody already saying, I mean, give me a break. You media people. First of all, he's got two big advantages. He's got a great offensive coach, and his game is fun.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Matt Stafford won MVP. You think of Stafford, you're like big time arm, no look passes. Mahomes wins MVP, right? Left-handed passes. This is not voted on by an algorithm. People vote on MVP. And Caleb Williams, even when you compare him, to like really talented Sam Darnold.
Starting point is 00:27:24 Caleb's just different. Caleb does stuff. Nobody else does except Josh Allen. So, and the difference is, I think Caleb Williams, in my opinion, has a better coach than Josh Allen did. And I think Sean McDermott is very, very good. I think Ben Johnson, we may have a great one here. We may have another McVeigh.
Starting point is 00:27:43 So the Bears went from 32nd offense, total offense, to 6th. You know what that feels like to me? very much like Mike McDonald in Seattle, who took over for Pete Carroll, they went like 30th to 11th to number one in the Super Bowl. So I think Ben Johnson in Chicago and Mike McDonald in Seattle, we could be looking at, and I believe this to be true, we got a couple more McVease, guys that are just different. They're just better than everybody else. So, and there are, and here's my thing about Caleb Williams, there are these players in NFL history. Lawrence Taylor is one. there's so many funny things on the internet, TikTok, about Bill Parcells talking about
Starting point is 00:28:23 Lawrence Taylor, where, like, he just would do his own thing. He freelanced his way to being the best pass rush run league history. I mean, even Bill Parcells at some point's like, yeah, whatever, do your thing. Bill Parcells. So Dionne Sanders didn't like the tackle or defend the run. He was so good at guarding everybody in the league, including mostly Jerry Rice. You just kind of let him do his own thing. So, I mean, when people get worked up on the completion for percentage for Caleb Williams. My take is, okay, here are people that also struggled in year two with their completion percentage. Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Peyton Manning, and Josh Allen. You know, when you're really, I mean, Peyton Manning was so good upstairs. Josh Allen has so
Starting point is 00:29:06 much power. Stafford had such a good arm. I don't get too caught up on completion percentage. I think it needs to get a little better, a little better. But if he gets the 61 and a half or 62, and a half, I'm kind of okay with it. I mean, Lawrence Taylor, Dion Sanders kind of freelance their way a lot. If Caleb freelances six times a game, I'm comfortable with it. I mean, if you told me who should win the MVP next year, who I would put my, my crypto on, I'd go Caleb one and Josh Allen too, because I think Caleb has the better head coach. Brian Erlacker, the very popular, former great Chicago bear, was talking about Caleb last week to USA today. I thought Caleb was really good last year as a rookie.
Starting point is 00:29:56 He didn't turn the football over, which is a big deal. But I did not see him making the jump he made this year, their whole team for that matter. Defensively, I just think the belief that they were going to win every game starts with him. It's crazy. The clutch throws he makes cannon arm. When things break down, that's when he's really good, I feel like. He gets that his best. Yeah, so I, to me, Caleb Williams, number one, preseason MVP, Josh Allen, too.
Starting point is 00:30:25 And a lot of it is because nothing against Joe Brady, but he's not Ben Johnson. He may succeed. He's not Ben Johnson. He's not. Ben Johnson for two years, maybe three, before he got the job in Chicago, you and I were spending, you'd go out and talk to fans. And it's like, man, who's that guy in Detroit? I mean, the Lions were like creative and clever and progressive and smart and fun and Joe Brady may work. I have my doubts, not Ben Johnson, so I think Caleb should be the favorite.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Some guys are more fun to watch and easier to vote for. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, let's revisit Super Bowl 60, Colin. and fun little nugget here from Mike McDonald, the Seahawks coach. So we went on the Jimmy Kimmel show this week. And I had not heard this anywhere.
Starting point is 00:31:25 He said in the stadium it was overwhelmingly Seahawks fans. Take a listen. It was incredible. I mean, it must have been 75, 25, it felt like. You know, if you're like when you come play on a road game, it's hard to do like a verbal cadence for the quarterback to snap the ball because he can't hear. Right. So you have to have some sort of like silent, you know.
Starting point is 00:31:45 know, we call it silent cadence where you lift the leg or whatever, but their offense is on silent cadence the whole game, which gives us an advantage on defense. Our offense was able to use a verbal cadence where Sam could, you know, give all the commands to the center. So it was like playing a home game. You know, J-Mack, I was sitting with two people, Josh and Ryan, producers watching the game. And we were talking about it right before the game. We're like, this is kind of a home game for Seattle, not just because of the crowd, because they played in that stadium multiple times. And the lighting and the angles for a late afternoon, you know, it was a late afternoon on the West Coast. It did feel like watching that game is, I've seen Seattle play here, I've seen Donald play
Starting point is 00:32:24 here, I've seen the Seahawks the last couple of years, McDonald's. It felt like, and then you started, they pan the crowd and you're like, oh, this is like one of those bowl games in the South where it's like 70% like, you know, it's like 65% percent Georgia fans and then 35% you know, whoever the other team is, fans, Oregon or whatever. So I thought that played. I thought Seattle looked much more comfortable, and they were better, and they had a better game plan, and the better quarterback. But I did think it was an advantage.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Seahawks defense, obviously six sacks, three turnovers. They were nasty. Let's go to the second story. And that's the Clint Kubiak pressery yesterday. I know you were fired up about his comments about Fernando Mendoza, the number one pick. However, however, he was also asked about Max Crosby, the defensive end who made waves last week with some comments.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Here's what Kubiak said about the future of Crosby in Vegas. Love talking ball with him and look forward to continuing those conversations. He was, I think he was the first one in here. There's more than working out, so I fired me up. We want him to be a part of our success going forward. You know, there's no doubt about that. And, you know, he's one of the best players in the NFL. So that's a no-brainer to get to work with Max
Starting point is 00:33:40 and see him continue to have success with this organization. That'd be big. I don't know. I know you're plugged in with Crosby. He's your guy. He don't like me. Well, you just take him. You fire shots at people indiscriminately.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I didn't think he was our top five defensive end in the league. Sorry. I mean, he's really, really good. Take out Miles Garrett. He's probably number two. He's very, very good. I'm not running to go that far. But more importantly, he's the only guy the Raiders have.
Starting point is 00:34:09 Look at these sack numbers since 2019. It's basically Max Crosby and random guys who don't do much or aren't sticking around long. Colin, they need Crosby badly. Listen, they got some draft capital. Part of me wants Max Crosby to plan a Super Bowl. So I've come to the conclusion that if Max gets traded, I think it's really cool, especially if he went to like, I mean, just put him on, you know, Buffalo, for instance, could use a consistent edge rusher.
Starting point is 00:34:36 I would love to see Max Crosby in Buffalo. It's nothing against the Raiders, but I do. When I have somebody I like, like Sam Darnold I like, I wanted Sam to have Kevin O'Connell. I wanted Sam to go to Seattle. I want Sam to flirt. Max Crosby is one of my guys. So I think if he stays in the Raiders and they pay him, I'm happy because he's going to get more money soon. But my other take is if he goes to somebody, like let's say Jacksonville or with Liam Cohen
Starting point is 00:35:02 and that team that's like a player away or he goes to Buffalo, I'm also happy for him. I'm Buffalo. You don't have a single Pro Bowl holder on defense. How can you make your corners and your safety is better? A great pass rush. I mean, Maxx. You got to give up a lot to get him, though. Huh?
Starting point is 00:35:18 You got to give up a lot to get him to Buffalo. Okay. Josh Allen, four more years prime. I don't need first round picks. You've got it. Your left tackle. You're running back. You need an edge rusher.
Starting point is 00:35:30 What's the timeline? We were talking about this during the prep this morning. Lucas 27. You think Lucas got six. more years of prime. His game is already less athletic today than it was four years ago. Okay, so like, what's Luca's window? To me, Lucas window is the next four years, Rob Polenka, Nick Wright and I talked about this yesterday. You've got to speed it up here. Because Luca is aging faster. Carmelo aged very fast, didn't he? Why? He wasn't in LeBron's shape.
Starting point is 00:36:00 How did they come out at the same time and LeBron's still playing in Mello is a broadcaster? because so to me Josh Allen, the way he runs around and gets popped, you probably have four years of AAAA plus. And then like Big Ben or Cam, big guys who, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:17 run around get hit, it starts, you can see. So to me, your window in Buffalo is today. Yeah. I'm sorry, I can't rock. You just sort of like, you don't need first round picks. We just saw Seattle draft Emunwari
Starting point is 00:36:31 and he's a huge factor. He was a second round. He was a second round pick. You need your picks, Colin. You can't get those up. Rams have had one first round pick in nine years. Second best franchise in the league. The only team that can move the ball on the Seahawks is the team that's had one first round pick in nine years.
Starting point is 00:36:50 If you draft well, second, third, fourth, fifth round and you have a team friendly quarterback deal, you can be an excellent roster. The team friendly quarterback screws it out. But I honestly, I don't know that I'm trading for Crosby if I'm, if I'm, if I'm, if I'm, Buffalo, you're going to cost you two ones for this guy. What are you going to get in the first round? How did that Keon-Colman thing work? Well, that was a very poor job by Mr. B. Remember, you're giving up two first-round picks in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:37:16 They're bottom of the first round. What are you getting the third best corner at Georgia? You know, the Eagles sure did draft some really good players. And the Eagles also whiffed on a late first-round pick, a receiver, if you recall, at a TCU. Those late first-round picks, the best GMs and the best GMs in the first-round pick. the league. Jason Light in Tampa, great GM. He took Kyle Trask, Florida. That is an impossible place to even Seattle's John Snyder. Now he's drafting at the bottom of the first. Dude, those are second round players by the 20th pick. That's a hard place for GMs to draft. So what's your guess on
Starting point is 00:37:55 Crosby? Is he playing for the Raiders next season or traded? All I know if I'm Buffalo, I give up two first in a heartbeat to get him. Because the one thing, they need are explosive defensive players. Now, if you want to move up and get Bain or like out of Miami, the Hurricane Kid, or if you want to move up, you can do it, but you're going to have to give up a, maybe you don't give up two firsts, maybe you give up a second and a third. That's not a bad move by Buffalo. Listen, Rams found Jared Verse late first round, and he's crushing it already an elite player at his position. Game changer. Like, I don't know, man. I think you're, who, that's a good topic for the offseason, though. Would you give up two first round picks for Max Crosby?
Starting point is 00:38:37 Well, it depends on the downside is you're paying Josh Allen so much. For instance, I'll give you a team that should look at Max Crosby. The Chicago Bears, quarterbacks on a rookie deal. Yes, that makes more sense. I'll give you another team. New England Patriots, quarterbacks on a rookie deal. Both those teams, Chicago's got a decent defense. They do not have a consistent edge. I would have no problem Ryan Pohl's given up first to get Max Crosby. What is the winner? window to win a Super Bowl with Caleb Williams. Now, you could say it's 10 years, but we just watched the Super Bowl with two team-friendly quarterback deals. By the way, if Bo Nix is healthy, he's probably in the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:39:15 He has a team-friendly deal. Max Crosby is works if you've got an inexpensive quarterback. That I can ride with. Jaden Daniels in Washington. Drake May, Sam Darnold. Or not Sam Darnold, Caleb Williams. Bon, well, they don't need more pass rushers in Denver. Yeah. Final story is to the NBA. Jalen Brunson went off last night. 40 piece, but the Knicks lost to the, oh boy, 14 win Pacers. Pacer's are not a great team this year. Obviously, a lot of injuries. They trade for Zubots. He ain't playing. Now, the Knicks did not have OGN and Obie, one of their best defenders. And look at that. The Pacers drop 137 points. Colin, you remember the immortal Phil Jackson, great coach had a bunch of Phil Jacksonisms. He had a 40-20 theory. It states that if a team's
Starting point is 00:40:02 suffers 20 losses before they win 40, they ain't winning the championship. This loss last night was the Knicks 20th. Not great news. And especially when you look at the other contenders who apply to 4020, Detroit Pistons, OKC Thunder, San Antonio Spurs. Those are clearly the three best teams. And I think the Knicks would be in probably the next tier. I agree.
Starting point is 00:40:24 But they're in the east, though. You know that. Yeah. By the way, Kian Coleman was the second round pick, my bad. Wasn't the first. Oh, Buffalo. Yeah, yeah. No, I think the Knicks, if Halliburton was healthy and Jason Tatum was healthy,
Starting point is 00:40:37 I don't think the Knicks are a title team or even a finals team. I still, I'm going to take Detroit over the Knicks. I think it's close. But I, so Phil Jackson's theory was if you lose 20 before you win 40, you're not a title team. Yeah. So the Celtics are at 34 and 19. They technically could pull it off. And the Rockets are 33 and 19.
Starting point is 00:41:00 So they're right there. Rockets have been leaking oil for a little while. Now, the injuries, Van Vleet, Adams catching up. But, man, I'm not selling my Knicks stock. If anything, I'm going to add to it, Cullen. I still think they're the cream of the crop in the East. All right. What's your favorite team, by the East? As a kid.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Nix. Yeah. And I know the Pistons smashed them recently by 40. Pistons are motivated after the Knicks beat them last year. Okay. They are. You just wait till the series comes if the Knicks are healthy. Nix and six.
Starting point is 00:41:27 All right. Well, I love your optimism. It's almost childlike. It's a very youthful enthusiasm. I appreciate that. It's like the kind of enthusiasm you had when you had dual earrings. You just were very optimistic. You woke up and every day was your oyster.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Yes, it was. Jay Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news. Yeah, I think Bears Patriots, one and two, go get Max Crosby. There's nobody in the first round for the next.
Starting point is 00:41:59 two years, maybe next three that's going to be as good as Max Crosby. There's not a guy in this draft outside of Fernando Mendoza potentially because he's taking 70 snaps a game, especially if the Raiders are trailing. He's throwing a lot. That's influence. But none of these other picks are going to have the immediate impact of Max Crosby. Fernando Mendoza, next year we've got a bunch of quarterbacks that could. But if you take out Fernando Mendoza, what player in this draft for the first two years is going to post Max Crosby numbers? bagel zero now that doesn't mean that guy isn't inexpensive it doesn't become great but max crosbie is a you're talking about one of the top i mean i love when they mic players and you and they keep the
Starting point is 00:42:42 they keep the you know NFL films they watch them for the entire game dude he is one of those guys that does not take plays off he is just he is i mean again he's a 12 year old on a two bags of Skittles. He never stops. It's like relentless energy. That is hard to play at that level. And remember, the Raiders, just think how good Max Crosby would be if his team was good, but he's facing teams in the fourth quarter that are running the ball because they lead the Raiders by two touchdowns. Can you imagine if he played on Chicago and you lead late or New England and you lead late and the other team has to pass and Max Crosby can pin his ears back. So Max Crosby, usually eight minutes to go, his team trails. They're trying to,
Starting point is 00:43:32 they're trying to kill the clock. Now I get 15 late game snacks with snaps with Max Crosby pinning his ears back because the Patriots, the Bears lead by eight or 10. I mean, to me, I don't care about the number that guy I want on my team. I mean, between my Max Crosby take and my Fernando Mendoza take, the fact that I'm not getting GM offers is surprising. It's discouraging. I mean, today's show alone should qualify me for something. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us to Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:44:19 We just contributed to a first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:44:46 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title. for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.

Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a paramedo-in-a-pastal chin here you do.
Starting point is 00:48:14 So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my GenX squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with a new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to. try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.
Starting point is 00:49:02 Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Fox College Hoops Friday has Tom Izzo's 10th ranked Michigan State Squad taking on Nick Boyd and Wisconsin. Friday night, 8 Eastern on Fox. So the athletic, they do a good job at this. They do a lot of surveys and polls. They polled nine NFL coaches and executives on the best coaching hires in this cycle. So there were nine first place votes.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Best coaching in this cycle. Best coaching hires. So let's go look at the results. John Harbaugh Giants, that was my take as the best high. got six of the nine first place votes. Kevin Stefansky got a vote. Jesse Minter and I guess Joe Brady got a vote. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:58 There you go. But what's interesting, if you add up all the votes, Joe Brady was only the eighth best higher of 10. That is way down that list. People like Harbos, Defansky, Jesse Minter, Mike McCarthy, Jeff Halfley, Clint Kubiak, Robert Sala. I mean, nobody, no votes for Todd Munkin.
Starting point is 00:50:23 So, way to go, Cleveland. But the one I look at is Joe Brady. Joe Brady is way down that list. So think about what's happening in Buffalo. They're already banging on. The fans are already banging on. The fans in the media are banging on Brandon being the GM because of a drafting record.
Starting point is 00:50:38 So they have lost a lot of patience in Buffalo with Josh Allen not being surrounded by elite players like a Matt Stafford is, or a Sam Darnold is, or Mahomes and his titles. were or Jalen Hertz is or now Caleb Williams is. So here's what's really fascinating about the Joe Brady hire. So again, we all knew Sean McDermott was a very good coach. He may have struggled in January. He was a very good coach. Have you seen Buffalo's schedule this year? Folks, they face the AFC West, the NFC North, plus the Rams and the Houston Texans. These, are Joe Brady's
Starting point is 00:51:23 coaching opponents this year. Andy Reed, Mike Frable twice, Jim Harbaugh, Ben Johnson, Sean Payton, Sean McVeigh, Matt Lafleur, Domeico Ryans, and Dan Campbell. Now he does get Aaron Glenn
Starting point is 00:51:39 twice. That helps. Sorry, Jay Mack. But look at this. That's like those, that's Hall of Fame stuff as a rookie head coach. Without a pro bowler defensively. So I don't know. I don't know how I've said before.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Sometimes I just have to watch stuff. I think Clint Kubi acts a good hire. I got to see it. I think Fernando Mendoza going to be a good quarterback. I got to see it. You ever go to a prize fight, a boxing match, and you think you know? I went to a couple Pacquiao fights in my life and I'm like, I don't know. Middle of second round, I'm like, oh, Paco is going to win this fight.
Starting point is 00:52:16 So like, I have to see Joe Brady and Buffalo. I have no idea. I thought Sariani was over his skis completely and he's got a trophy. Here's Joe Brady on becoming the Bills coach. I know it's, I might be in the head coaching role, but I've, to me, I've woke up with the same mindset, same approach every day that I've been coaching. The only difference is I'm going to a different office, right? I know the guys aren't here and it's a little different.
Starting point is 00:52:44 I'm, you know, I might be on my phone a lot more. I'm usually never on my phone and I've been on my phone more than I ever have in my life the last week, but my approach, my work ethic, the time I'm waking up, nothing's changed. It's kind of who I am. I always root for coaches. It's really hard. You don't see your family. I don't root against coaches.
Starting point is 00:53:05 I mean, it's pretty obvious on certain coaches very quickly. That's not going to work. I'm not rooting against them. It's just not going to work. Joe Brady may work. But when you look at the coaches, he's going to face, and he doesn't have a pro bowler on defense. that's a lot of good coaches and a lot of good quarterbacks. Speaking of that,
Starting point is 00:53:24 this is like, what a nightmare. Honest to God. Andy Reid, Vrable twice. All these are road games. I mean, he got the short end of the stick on year one coaches you have to face with high expectations, with a GM who's getting all sorts of heat because of his drafting record, his drafting record on offense has been pretty good.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Kion Coleman Coleman, and second round receiver pick hasn't worked. I liked him in college. I thought it was a good pick. I thought it was going to work. I watched them at Florida State, and I'm like, oh, yeah, it'd take a while, but it'll be good. Greg Co. sells around the corner.
Starting point is 00:54:04 And a list. Yes, already on next year. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:54:13 We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people. questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
