Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Starting point is 00:01:59 LA, it's the herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day. So we're going to wait. I don't think Aaron Rogers is going to announce today what he's doing. That's my guess. I wish I had better sourcing on Aaron Rogers. I have talked to three-packers since the Super Bowl. None are super tight with Aaron. All like him, but Aaron's his own guy with a small social circle. So they're not terribly tight with him. they're all like us kind of wondering what he's going to do. None of them know what he's going to do. And that's what's really interesting.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Three Packers I've talked to, none know what he's going to do. And by the way, two of the three are on offense. They got no idea. But I did say that let's, because something's holding this thing up, Tom Pelliserro, very good reporter, Ian Rappaport, good reporter, Adam Schepter, good reporter, are all reporting, the Jets and the Packers are negotiating. All reporting, the terms aren't finished yet.
Starting point is 00:03:07 So those are three high-end reporters. They're all saying the same thing. They're in negotiations, but they can't quite reach a deal. Why not? It's not first-round draft picks, according to Palisero. So it doesn't feel like it's a draft pick thing. Is it one more buddy going to the, Jets from the Packer. Could be. I don't know. It is Pellasaro reports. They haven't agreed to terms.
Starting point is 00:03:33 So there's something between the two teams who both want a deal done. The Jets want to deal done obviously. And Green Bay, read between the lines, sounds like they're ready to move on as well. So, I mean, there was a report two weeks ago that a longtime Packer reporter said they're disgusted by how they've been treated by Aaron. okay so and that was a guy that covered the Packers for 30 years for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel so something's holding them up I don't know what it is we'll monitor if we get anything I want to throw this out though I said the AFC's different in the NFC I would not leave Green Bay if I was Aaron Rogers I would not it's a very stable franchise and the NFC is different if you asked me today to predict the AFC playoff teams if Aaron went to the Jets I would not have the Jets as a playoff team I think New England the Jets and Miami are going to beat each other up. I think the four superstar quarterbacks in that division in that conference will win their division again. Burrough Mahalms, Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Justin Herbert, I think, gets in because now he's got a great coordinator. Kenny Pickett's got something, and I trust Mike Tomlin in that culture as Pickett improves. And Sean Peyton and Russell Wilson, I think will elevate the entire franchise. I think the Dolphins, Jets, and Patriots will all be very strong, none good enough to sneak in.
Starting point is 00:04:52 And by the way, here's an example of the difference between conferences. You're only as good as the quarterbacks you face, right? So here's who Aaron Rogers faced this year, this past year at quarterback. Justin Fields, an old Brady, Bailey Zappy with a defensive coordinator, Zach Wilson, Taylor Heineke, Ryan Tannihil, Baker Mayfield. Okay, there's some good ones. Josh Allen wants is a pretty good one. Jalen Hertz is obviously really talented.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Two has got some talented. Here's who we would face as a jet next season at quarterback. Uh-oh. Josh Allen twice. Mack Jones twice with an offensive coordinator. Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, another year of improvement for Jalen Hertz. Russell Wilson was Sean Peyton, Super Bowl quarterback Garoppolo, and Deshaun Watson. Right, it's a different neighborhood.
Starting point is 00:05:45 It's a totally different ball game. So I'm not, I mean, he faced Dak last year. He'll face Dak this year. Hertz last year. Hurt's this year, although I think Jalen is getting better. You know, every year we've seen Jalen Hertz, he's made another leap. So I think you'd get a better Jalen Hertz this year than last year. But it's, it's, you know, this idea that he's going to go to the Jets and they're just going to take over Bill Belichick.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And I don't know. I don't know. Belichick, Mike McDaniel, Josh Allen, Bill's roster. That jet thing is no, and they don't have a great ownership group. Still, most of the offensive players are kids. I mean, the Jets' best offensive players, Bryce Hall, they like, they like Breece Hall, the two receivers, they're kids. They got a kid offensive line.
Starting point is 00:06:35 Even they're great. They like one or two of their offensive linemen. They're pretty young. So I think it's a tough ass to ask Aaron to walk in and win the division, get to the playoffs. That division's a handful. Every team's got something great. McDaniels and that offensive speed is great. Elite.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Belichick, defensive brain defense, elite. Josh Allen, elite. Every team's got something that's elite. You've got to get through that stuff. AFC is a different ballgame entirely. Devin McCordy's got three Super Bowl rings. He is announcing his retirement. He just did last week.
Starting point is 00:07:10 And he is now joining us live. Served as a Patriot captain for 12 straight seasons. It is interesting. You didn't just play for them. You were a captain. And the Patriots have always been a franchise. Matt Slater, Devin McCordie, Gerard Mail. They like older players, veteran players.
Starting point is 00:07:29 And everybody says, oh, Aaron's going to go to the Jets. And I'm like, all their good players are kids. And like kids, I was talking last night I had dinner with Will Blackman. He goes, when I came into the league, I didn't even know how to study film. I didn't know if that all I was doing. So when you look at, let's say Aaron goes to the Jets, what do you think they'll look like? I think it'll be interesting. I think when you look at the Jets team, they had a very talented defense,
Starting point is 00:07:53 and they were in fights and battles and games because of how that defense played. And I get that the guys on the team are young, but I think that also gives you an opportunity as a veteran quarterback to go in and instill exactly what you want from those guys, how to study the playbook, how to prepare, what we need to do before and after practice. He would have the opportunity to really mold that team. Now, I think what you said earlier,
Starting point is 00:08:17 The AFC is a different animal. It's a different beast. Each week, you're battling just to make it into playoffs, get into the wildcard. A little different than the NFC. So I think that would be the test. Even if they go out there and play their best football, are they going to be a team that is a real contender in the AFC? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:37 I couldn't give you that answer right now because there's a lot of teams that are talented, that have quarterbacks, that have coaches, that are now trying to put it all together. this would all be brand new going against some teams that already hit strides in Buffalo, in Kansas City and Cincinnati. So it would be a tough test, I think, even if they get Aaron Rogers. So all your entire career was with New England. It was a defensive-leaning culture with Brady. They had good offensive players.
Starting point is 00:09:04 But Skarnakia, it was O-line, Brady, and defense. I think the Jets are talented, but it's an offensive pivoting league, and most of their top players right now are defensive players. players. Aaron's had Mike McCarthy offensive guy, Matt LaFleur offensive guy. The offense has been better than the defenses. Is it, do you think that'll be a little adjustment moving to a defensive coach, a defensive culture?
Starting point is 00:09:30 I mean, that's what the Jets do, right? Like their coach sees the world of football run it. No mistakes. Do you think that'll be difficult? Because Tom always could handle that, knowing that Belichick wasn't going to let him do what he wanted to do? Do you think Aaron could struggle with that? I think one of the things is in New England, it was a goal every year. It was a win of Super Bowl, and that's all anybody cared about. Like Tom has seven Super Bowl ranks because that's what
Starting point is 00:09:57 he cared about most. I think for Aaron Rogers and Hackett, you get to run the offense. There's not going to be somebody coming in telling you do this, do that, put this in the game plan. You'll get to do exactly what you want to do on offense with no other hands in the pot, trying to stir and mix things up. So yeah, it'll be a defensive team and all of that. But I think from an offensive mind, you want to be able to prepare during the week, drop a game plan and go execute it without a bunch of people telling you what you can and can't do.
Starting point is 00:10:25 So I'll be interested to see how much leeway they do get to just go out there, score points and play and win. And I think you won't know that until it's four weeks in, five weeks in, how they're playing offensively. If they're rocking and rolling, Salah's not going to say anything. He's going to let them go out there, score points. I'm going to come out here as a defense, turn the ball over, get you the ball back, keep scoring.
Starting point is 00:10:46 And I think my time in New England, that's what it was about. Play good defense, get turnovers, get the ball back to Brady and they're going to score points. And I think we average like 30 points in the game when Brady was there, whether it was with Billy O'Brien or Josh McDaniels. They score points and we play a good defense. Lamar Jackson, do you have sympathy for Lamar Jackson? Or do you feel like, hey, you don't have a lot? have an agent. You're dealing with a parent. It gets personal. We were told yesterday by somebody
Starting point is 00:11:15 close to the situation that, you know, Lamar's like, I'm better than Deshaun Watson. I want guaranteed money. I get that. But that's why you have agents to take kind of the arrows from the GM and the owner. Do you feel sympathy for him? Or do you think, hey, man, you've let this thing go on. You didn't hire an agent. Maybe this is the dilemma that was, you could have predicted. I think the NFL is there's no I don't have sent for the Packers because Aaron Rogers is waiting to make a decision. And I don't have sympathy for Lamar Jackson because of how this is played out. I think he's going to have to continue to assess the situation and do what's best.
Starting point is 00:11:59 I don't think he should go out there and play on the tag of $32 million because of how talented he is, what he's done in this league and all of the risk you take as a player going out there and playing on a one-year deal with that guarantee money, I think, I believe it's $32 million. So, yeah, him not having an agent wouldn't be my route, but that's what he's decided and chosen. So I think for him, he needs to continue to do what's best for him, not going out there and taking that kind of emotion that we heard at the end of the year, do it for the guys. This is what, no, no, do what's best for you in business, because that's what every team will always do what's best for business. And I think as a player, he has to do the same thing. You know, free agency is dicey, Devin, as you know, even the Patriots, well-run, bought in some guys, didn't work.
Starting point is 00:12:45 It's, it's, you're, you don't know the odometer. There may be an injury that hasn't been disclosed. They may not have the work ethic of your culture. Sometimes a guy can look good on tape. You get him in the building and he just, he doesn't buy into his assistance. Free agency is great for me. It's great news. I love it. But, it doesn't equal wins. I think Denver's absolutely improved their offensive line this week. That I know. Everything else I kind of roll my eyes at. You tell me, when you bring new guys in, and a lot of times they're paid more than
Starting point is 00:13:21 the guys already in the room, there's a little, I mean, you're shaking your head. What did you make, what do you make a free agency? Yeah, this time every year, my whole 13 year career, except for one year, 2021, every New England Patriot fan used to be livid. They would want to see the names that, you know, all the beat reporters and all the insiders would talk about, you know, all of the weeks leading up to free agency. I want to see that on,
Starting point is 00:13:49 and there would never be anything. It'd be a guy or two that fit a need. And I think that's what free agency is. You have to build a team through the draft. You have to build through your culture, what you need to do. And then you have to determine at the end of each year, all right, what are some roles that we can fill that a free agent can come in? I think of 7th, 2017, we signed Stefan Gilmore to a big contract.
Starting point is 00:14:09 There were a lot of guys in a locker room because Malcolm Butler was also getting close to free agency who were like, well, why won't we pay Malcolm that? And sometimes as a player, you don't fully understand what's going to happen. But we knew right away when Gilly came in there and we got to training camp, we were like, oh, this dude can cover. He's different. And he filled a need at corner. But we didn't have a ton of those guys coming at once.
Starting point is 00:14:31 And I think when you see teams go crazy in free agency and they bring so many guys in, like you just said, every guy's not going to work out. So you're probably not going to have that dreamy season that everyone thinks you're going to have in March when you get all those guys. It's usually around December where now everybody's evaluating saying, this was not good. This was good. But, you know, it's usually maybe two guys and three guys at max that have huge impacts, you know, in one single year of free agency. Okay. So you just announced your retirement. You bought 37 billboards throughout the Boston area to thank the fans for 13 years.
Starting point is 00:15:07 That's a remarkable gesture by you. Last year was bumpy. I defended Mack Jones. I think it's ridiculous to give a young quarterback a defensive coordinator. Tone deaf, you've got to help these young guys. If you were a young cornerback in the league and I gave you a wide receiver coach, that's just not appropriate. I think Mack bounces back. What do you suspect happens this year?
Starting point is 00:15:31 Yeah, guys have been killing me when I keep going on, you know, different shows and talking about Mac, I think the same thing. I think he's going to now get to pair of with Billy O'Brien, a guy who they both have familiar friends and acquaintances with because of Billy O's time at Alabama and obviously Mack's time at Alabama. And I think that relationship is going to start to build right now in the offseason. I've been in a building. I've been, you know, doing rehab. And I've seen Mack in there, you know, working out doing different things. And I didn't ask them, but probably obviously meeting with Billy O and talking about, you know, what they want to do as an offense. And I think those are all the beginning processes to have building just a good relationship.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And I think from there, whilst training camp starts, you continue to just kind of build up. And I'm excited for Mack. He's a young guy who's always hungry. He's always trying to find the next avenue to get better. And I think we're going to see him have, you know, I think a lot of growth compared to last year. But I think we're going to see a lot of what we saw, you know, his rookie. a year to potential. I think he's going to show some of that this year. And I'm excited to watch. All right. Show that picture again, guy. 37 billboards throughout greater Boston. You're such a
Starting point is 00:16:41 class guy, Devin. I love that. Appreciate it. You're such a class guy. Given back to the fans. Good luck to you going forward. Appreciate you coming on. 37 billboards, by the way. That ain't cheap. I know some good people. I know some good people, man. Some good people out here. All right. Devin, thank you. Thank you. Appreciate you having me all. All right. So Aaron Rogers just told Pack McAfee, this is what we kind of predicted last hour. Quote, today is not a decision day. In fact, that's already happened. We're days past that. So this is what I was told last night is that the framework, the agreement stuff, there's a lot of it done.
Starting point is 00:17:22 There's something holding it up. That I have zero sourcing on. I've talked to three Packers, players, two of them offensive. They don't know. so nobody knows. So Aaron's saying it's not a decision day. That's already happened. So let's put, connect the dots. Mark Murphy said, we'll do what Aaron wants. He talked in past tense, as if Aaron had already told him, move me.
Starting point is 00:17:49 The Jets have brought in Hackett and Alan Lazard. It looks like they've made moves to initiate the Aaron trade. Tom Pelliserro acknowledges. They're negotiating. They haven't finalized terms. So what Aaron is saying is he's already made his decision. In fact, it says, quote, today isn't a decision day. That's already happened.
Starting point is 00:18:13 We're days past that. Days being Friday or Thursday. That's what's been reported by Boomer Assison and Trey Wingo. That it was agreed upon last week. Feta complete. Over. That part's over. He's made a decision.
Starting point is 00:18:30 All right. There you go. Look at you. You are beside yourself. I'm not. I'm a little more, maybe I need a darkness retreat after this. So let's parse the quote for a second. This isn't me deciding and announcing to the world what's going on. That's already happened.
Starting point is 00:18:49 This is clearing things up. If you go to the Jets, why wouldn't you announce it and then clear it up at the introduction press conference or whatever? What are you clearing up now? Well, so let's go back to the quote. the decision has been rendered. Do you believe that is he's leaving Green Bay? Do you believe that?
Starting point is 00:19:10 I believe this is a man who watched LeBron's decision a decade ago and LeBron captivated the world. LeBron's now considered a goat by many in the NBA. I watched, I believe Aaron Rogers watched Tom Brady make a decision to leave New England, go to Tampa, win a Super Bowl, be the goat. And I think Aaron Rogers wants attention. I think this is him thinking, I'm on Tom Brady's level. I'm as big as LeBron.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I need attention. Pay attention to me. and he's got all of us watching, waiting for his decision. This is his moment. He went into that darkness retreat and came out thinking, it's all about me. I'm Aaron Rogers. Respect me. Green Bay, don't you disrespect me?
Starting point is 00:19:44 Cowher, don't you disrespect me? And all we've done for, what day is today? Wednesday? All we've done for three days is talk about Aaron Rogers. So read the quote again for our radio and TV audience. This isn't a decision day. This isn't me deciding and announcing to the world what's going on. That's already happened.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Okay, stop right there. Stop right there. So he's made a decision. If he was coming back to Green Bay, why would the Jets go sign Alan Lazzard? They got Corey Davis. Why would you do that? So he's made a decision. The Jets brought in Hackett and Lazzard is signed.
Starting point is 00:20:20 So if he's telling you, I've made a decision, it does sound like the decision is the Jets. Tom Pelliserro, remember, Tom Pelliserro just. reported an hour ago. Jets, Packers still talking. Well, they wouldn't be talking if he decided to stay with Green Bay. Do you think they know the Jets and Packers? Do you think they know what he's doing? Yes. So how is that not out? Pelisero said, Jets Packers are negotiating at this minute. Well, Aaron just said decision been made. Well, if the decision to stay with Green Bay, they wouldn't be negotiating. It's over. So he is clearly, Feta complete, Boomer Asiacin, the decision was made last week, Aaron's going to the Jets. He's telling you. Okay. So,
Starting point is 00:21:05 announce it. Say, I'm going to the Jets. What are you doing? Here's something else. Here's something else. Aaron said he went into his darkness retreat, thinking he was 90% retired when he came out something changed. Well, first of all, he had light. That changed. Second of all, he was no longer in a bunker. But Aaron was going to retire, came out, and decided, decided to be a jet. Maybe when he was in the bunker, there was such silence that a jet flew over and it was the only thing he heard for days. And it was a sign and he said, I want to play for the jets. Is this worse and more annoying than Brett Farf? I think it's fun. I'm dying. This is fun? It's content. It's great. That's true. It's also lame on some level. There's a lot of people
Starting point is 00:21:52 who are like, dude, just make a decision. Why is such an indecisive clown? It's not their life. I mean, a decision's been made. Well, what's the decision? I'm. I'm not telling you. What is that? Fifth grade? Come on, dude. Grow up. This is embarrassing for Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I went to a darkness retreat and I came out and I know my decision. I'm not telling you, though. Like, come on, that's goofy. Okay, so these are the things we know. Read the quote one more time. So it said, Aaron said today's not a decision day. It's already happened. So that tells me he's it.
Starting point is 00:22:23 He has decided on the Jets because Tom Pelliserro is reported. Jets Packers still talking. Well, if he decided on the Packers, there's no reason they'd still be negotiating. He also said he was going to retire, came out, something changed. He said after Darkness, it was clear to him that although the Packers were saying the right things, publicly, they were ready to move on. That we kind of, that's been fairly obvious. So, all right. Wait, wait, wait.
Starting point is 00:22:54 One more from an NFL network guy, James Palmer. Roger said he heard there had been a shift from the Packers and that some shopping went on. What does that mean? Grocery shopping? Clothes shopping? Free agent shopping? I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Throw my hands up at this clown. I'm really upset, Colin. It's disappointing. You know what? You love this. You're loving every minute of it. Every second of it. Well, this is a classic situation.
Starting point is 00:23:24 I don't give a rip if I'm right. Fans want to be right. Nobody cared. I couldn't care less. I would stay in Green Bay if I was Aaron. Aaron is saying the franchise, his vibe is, they're ready to move on. So he was 90% retired, went to the retreat, came out and said, I'm going to prove it to you. I'm going to go to the Jets.
Starting point is 00:23:44 Okay. So here's another one. We just said this. Aaron Rogers just a minute ago said, quote, his intention is to play for the Jets. He's not holding anything up. So that means the. the trade comp is what they're haggling over. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Aaron wants to play for the Jets. No, no, no, no. He decided his intention was to play for the Jets. Well, there's got to be a... My intention was not to go to a bar after I get off work tomorrow. Okay? Intentions change.
Starting point is 00:24:19 He's just playing games with everybody right now. My intention was to play for the Jets. On Friday? Well, it's now Wednesday. What's going on? God, I love this. This is now, according to Aaron, about the compensation. So we know everything now. It's retiring or the Jets.
Starting point is 00:24:41 He's agreed. I want to play for the Jets. That's his intention. He's not holding it up. It's just GMs going back and forth. We also know it's not first round picks. We know that that's not the issue. They've agreed to that or they're not part of it.
Starting point is 00:24:54 So this all just comes down to a couple of guys in suits on the phone. figuring out terms. So it looks like Boomer Osiason, Trey Wingo, were on it, mostly on it, that stuff, the stuff had been agreed upon.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Now it's just guys in suits figuring out terms. There you go. There's your answer. Okay. Wonderful. Not that complicated. Cool.
Starting point is 00:25:20 I still don't think they're a playoff team. I think they'll battle to the last week with the dolphins. And the AFC is much easier to predict, because you have transformative quarterback talent. So the best quarterback, especially when they're a star quarterback, usually win a division, right? Unless there's a coaching disaster or the NFC's up for grabs.
Starting point is 00:25:39 So the idea of, it sounds like from what Aaron's saying is he would have come back, but he got a real negative vibe. Aaron's a vibe guy. He got a very negative vibe from the Packers who are publicly saying the right stuff, but privately they're done with him. And that's one thing I got right. I've been saying this for years. Rip the Band-Aid off.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Move on. I mean, seriously, if I got two second-round picks, I'm done. Let's go. And the Jets signed Alan Lazard. We didn't want to sign them anyway. We're going to draft Jordan Addison with one of our picks. Let me quickly ask you, do the Jets now, hearing this, that his intention is to play for us, they've got all the power.
Starting point is 00:26:20 No. Okay, okay. Here's another one. Roger said the Packers are, quote, digging their heels. with trade talks. So this comes down. So we know this. Aaron's ready to go.
Starting point is 00:26:31 It's compensation. And the Packers are digging their heels in. Because the Packers don't want to be embarrassed and give up too little. If I was the Packers, I think what's fair is two seconds. No. Absolutely now. I'll give you a third.
Starting point is 00:26:45 I'll give you a break. Take it or leave it. You deal with this guy. You deal with this diva. Yeah. Fine. We're not giving them to you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Enjoy Zach Wilson. Have fun with the Jordan Love Battle and Aaron Rogers. You don't want to come back. He just said his intention is to play for the Jets. Oh, you retire. And then he retires in the cap hits like a billion dollars. Jordan loves free. What do I care?
Starting point is 00:27:05 Get him out of the building. Come on, Jets. Don't give, don't hold firm. So Aaron is saying, we got all the answers here. The Packers are digging their heels in and they want more than the Jets are offering. The Jets are saying, we just signed Alan Lazzard. We got limitations here. So I think what's fair is two seconds.
Starting point is 00:27:26 You're not, you're getting more than a. a third. So, so what they're probably saying? Hold on. Jalen Ramsey, a quarterback in his prime, got a third. He's a cornerback. So what? Aaron Rogers is a 39-year-old washed quarterback. No, he's a diva going on darkness retreats. He's not washed. He just
Starting point is 00:27:41 had his worst season in a decade. He rushed for 98 yards last season. He's immobile. He's like Russell Wilson. Oh, come on. This. Yeah. Yeah. Russell's not washed and Aaron's not washed. They're both very good players. Very, very good players.
Starting point is 00:27:57 At least the Jets have Nathaniel Hackett as OC to get Aaron Rogers back on track. Here's what the Packers are saying. We're digging our heels in because once you're gone, we want to make sure, because I think what the Packers want is a first-round pick. Now, Tom Pelliserro says it's not about a first-round pick. It's probably eating the contract, right? So how much of the percentage of what Aaron is owed are the Jets going to pay? We'll give you 15 mil.
Starting point is 00:28:21 We'll pay 15 mil and you've got to swallow 25, whatever the numbers are. You're probably right. probably what it is. How much of Aaron's contract will you eat? Because the Jets aren't paying anybody. Yeah, we don't know if he's going to be here, Nick, for two years. Why would you pay a bunch of money for a one-year rental for a guy who's a little spacey? That's what the Jets are saying, and the Packers are saying, that's a you problem. You're desperate. We're not. We got Jordan Love in the building. Oh, yeah. I think the Packers have a lot of, oh. Packers are like, we got a guy in the building we like. You have Zach Wilson.
Starting point is 00:28:53 People don't forget playing. They don't like him. And you're in New York, the media is going crush you as the Giants with Daibald and Darren Waller and Daniel Jones and Saquan Barkley make the playoffs again and you're over there a tire fire on the interstate. We'll go after Matt Ryan or Ryan Tannenhill. We'll show you. No, we won't. This is so much fun.
Starting point is 00:29:13 One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHeart radio app. Search herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
Starting point is 00:29:37 embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of taun tons and wampas on the ice planet hot,
Starting point is 00:31:15 or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to Stuff to Blow Your Mind on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. podcast. More Aaron Rogers stuff. Aaron Rogers said today to Pat McAfee, quote, the Packers are ready to move on and so am I. He said, you guys drafted Jordan Love. If I wouldn't have won back-to-back MVP's, we would have had this conversation two years ago. I'm an aging face of the franchise for the last 15 years. It's time to do right by me or by us. He said, you've got an aging face. It's time to do right by. So Aaron and the Packers, let's talk Packers for a second. They're
Starting point is 00:31:55 move on. They told Aaron, go find a team. So Aaron was 90% retired, came out and said, no, I'm not going to retire. He probably knew. It sounds like here, the Packers told Aaron when the season was over, hey, we're going to move on. So let's keep it quiet. We'll try to broker the best deal possible. Aaron went into the darkness retreat, according to this story. 90% I'm going to retire. He's had a hell of a career. First ballot Hall of Famer. He came out of the retreat saying, I want to play for the Jets. So they've been in negotiations. The Packers, according to Aaron, are digging their heels in on compensation. You know, I imagine they want that first Jets pick, which I think is 13th.
Starting point is 00:32:34 That's what they want. But Tom Pelliserro reports, it's not all about first round picks. Maybe it's multiple seconds. It's a first year's later. So he said the wish list, I reported this earlier. He said it was stupid and ridiculous. I said yesterday. I thought it was outrageous.
Starting point is 00:32:52 I was told last night, after our show and fact in the afternoon that Aaron said the list was silly. It was the demands were nonsense. He didn't make any demands for players, although I have a question. Why is Alan Lazzard now a four-year contract with the Jets? That feels like that's trying to make Aaron happy. And Alan Lazzard is one of his favorite targets. So, but Aaron says he didn't make any demands for players. But he did say this. The Packers told him they want to move on. And I, that's what I've been saying. It's time to rip the Band-Aid off. got your answer in the building.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I wouldn't, the Packers have, let's say the Packers get a second round pick for Aaron this year and next year, guessing no idea. They'll have a first, two seconds, a third of fourth, a couple of fifths, a couple of six, four, seven. They got nothing but picks. They don't have a lot of holes in the organization. So I would guess Green Bay at some point would draft another quarterback at some point in this draft.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Not early. They need another tight end, Mercedes-Louis leaving. They need another receiver. I think if they have the right pick, they could get Jordan Addison at USC. There's a kid out of Boston College people like. They need an edge rusher. They don't need a lot. They really don't.
Starting point is 00:34:03 They got to fortify their offensive line. It's good, but David Boktiari restructured his deal. He's probably gone in a couple of years. So, by the way, Aaron also said this. Anybody would look at Alan Lazard and think he's a great player. Anybody would be lucky to have him. I don't think Alan Lazzard is viewed as a great player. He's viewed as a good player.
Starting point is 00:34:27 I don't think it's a coincidence he ended up with the Jets. Sorry, I don't believe Aaron there. He said, who wouldn't want OBJ in their team? But I don't have any demands. My only demand is transparency. Well, you kind of lied on the vaccine. I'd push back a little on the transparency stuff. If you're such a transparent guy,
Starting point is 00:34:45 why have the three-packer players I've talked to, two on offense, have no idea for your plans. Be transparent with teammates. So, you know, Aaron says a lot. Doesn't mean he does a lot. I'm just giving you quotes here that happened today an hour ago on Pat McAfee, less than an hour ago. Aaron says the Packers want to move off him.
Starting point is 00:35:05 We have said we think it's a rip-the-band-aid situation. You got Jordan Love in the building. You can draft another quarterback. I think Jordan Love can play. Obviously, the Packers think Jordan Love can play, or they wouldn't be doing this. If they made a decision to move off Aaron Roger, two months ago, which is what it sounds like, they think Jordan Love can play. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:35:26 We saw him briefly. He was really bad a couple years ago. We watched them. He was completely over his skis. I watched them last year for a while. I thought it was pretty efficient. I don't know if there's any it there. I don't think he's spectacular, but he doesn't look like Zach Wilson.
Starting point is 00:35:40 It looks like he can play the position. So there you go. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. We'll do more Rogers shortly
Starting point is 00:35:54 But can we talk about the NBA for just a moment? Are you good with that? Yonis and the Bucks Big win last night over the Sons who did not have Kevin Durant. Yannis 36, 11, and 8 With the win, the Bucks become the first team to win 50 this season
Starting point is 00:36:08 clinched a playoff berth Three game lead over the Celtics for best record of the NBA. Sounds like they're going to have home court advantage in the east. After the game, Yonis was shocked to learn about clinching a playoff spot. Are you celebrating tonight?
Starting point is 00:36:21 So you guys made the playoffs as officially as of tonight? You made the playoffs? No way. We did? Me... For real? Yes. Oh, man, it feels good.
Starting point is 00:36:38 You know, I'm happy that we're able to win and, you know, be the first team to quit playoffs. Such a good guy. Yeah, like them. Opposite of Aaron. Incredibly likable. You got to get it to dig on Rogers. They have the most likable athlete in America for the last 7-8 years has been Yonnas and arguably the least likable star. 7-8 might be a reach.
Starting point is 00:36:59 But in Wisconsin, I think he's the most popular athlete over Rogers. Yeah. They like him. How do you not like him? He's gracious and grateful and amazing and giving. Can you imagine a guy like this pulling this Roger's stunt going into a dark? I don't know who I want to play. Aaron's a leaf.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Now it's all clear. I know. Ayahuasca. Next up. busy off season for the Eagles. Colin, this is starting to look bleak. They got a great roster, but all of a sudden they're getting thinned out. They did keep
Starting point is 00:37:28 James Bradbury, the quarterback, on a three-year deal. Good player. But they lost Darius, Big Play Slay, great nickname, who is going to be released. He announced his goodbye on social media. They're going to save a lot of cap money. Well, I saw one tweet. Somebody had basically said they've already lost six key contributors on the defense.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Three agencies is not over. Yeah, we knew this was going to be the case. So Hargrave went to the Niners, Slays on the market, lost two good linebackers. You know, I will say this, though. Oh, Miles Sanders, the running back announced, you know, I had a good run. Thank you, Philadelphia. No, that we knew, we knew last year was kind of the perfect storm, inexpensive rising quarterback loaded roster. So it's going to be different. The defense is going to have to hit in some draft picks. And they're capable, Howie Roseman's a sharp GM, certainly capable of hitting on some draft picks.
Starting point is 00:38:20 They won't be quite as experienced and as forceful defensively. Final story, big quarterback news in the NFL. The Colts are going to release Matt Ryan. Yeah. And his 12 starts with the Colts. Ryan was 4-7 and 1. It was a tough watch for Matt Ryan last year. He did win an MVP.
Starting point is 00:38:35 He got benched multiple times last season. They have the fourth pick in the draft. Probably going to get a quarterback. Is Matt Ryan, you think he retires or is somebody going to get him to be like a veteran presence to like a young quarterback on the sideline? Yes. He wants to play still. He's a pro.
Starting point is 00:38:51 He's a pro. He wants to play? I don't know. Anybody who signs him, he has to know, hey, bro, you're holding a clipboard. You're going to be a veteran presence in the locker. Make sure the young quarterback shows up in the meeting room on time, all that stuff. All right. J-Mac with the news.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Line News. Listen to stuff to blow your mind, on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Well, we said it when Trey Wingo put it out there. He wasn't going to lie. Aaron admitting today, yeah, I want to be a jet. And that's what Trey Wingo reported last Friday.
Starting point is 00:42:04 I want to be a jet. So there you go. Apparently the deal is held up on the Packer side. The Packers are digging their heels in, according to Aaron Rogers. You know, he's hoping they do him right. But, you know, it sounds like Green Bay controlled this way more than Aaron. Green Bay, according to Aaron, told him, we're moving on, we're ready to move on. So this feels like Aaron's controlling it.
Starting point is 00:42:31 No, he's not. The Jets aren't controlling it. Green Bay is. Green Bay told him, we're moving on. Green Bay is holding up the deal for compensation. Green Bay has controlled this. Green Bay decided last week, we're moving on. We'll broker a deal.
Starting point is 00:42:50 So this is why Aaron Rogers did the interview today. He's sick of the holdup. He decided he's going to now put it on the Packers that they're waiting for compensation. And that's the only reason he's not a New York Jet right now. But that doesn't make the Packers look bad. Exactly. They don't care. They don't give a rip.
Starting point is 00:43:04 They don't care. I think they have the leverage. They've been saying for weeks, hey, you know, whatever he decides, we're ready, we're ready to move on. So how far do the Packers take this? Do they really dig their heels in and demand? If I'm Green Bay, I just, I, I, I've already won the deal because I get a restart and Jordan Love doesn't cost me anything. So the dead cap money I don't care a ton about.
Starting point is 00:43:26 Roger doesn't, sorry, Love doesn't cost you anything for now because he's on like year four, right? So you can see if he can play or not. Right. You'll know by Thanksgiving. So they're going to end up if they have to pay more than 50% of Roger's salary, they got to pay Love first round pick. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:40 And Rogers. So they're going to be essentially paying probably close to $40, $45 million for a quarterback this year. But the Jets are also, or the Packers are also, if you look at their picks, this is probably why they're arguing, is if they can get a second round pick, you know, so they'll have two seconds, then they can take one of those and draft a quarterback. Because they need a receiver, a tied end and an edge rusher. That's all they need. The roster's very good. So Rogers does say Nathaniel Hackett's present in New York mattered in his decision. So what that's telling. So this really goes back. Green Bay told Aaron very, very, very. early, we're moving on.
Starting point is 00:44:20 Aaron told the Jets very early, Nathaniel Hackett's presence matters. Aaron acknowledging today, Hackett's present in New York mattered. So that happened three weeks ago. So that's telling you the Packers, whenever Nathaniel Hackett became the Jets coordinator, what date was that? It was like at least over a month. Okay. So a month ago, clearly.
Starting point is 00:44:46 the Packers told Aaron a month ago, we're moving on. The Jets immediately, Aaron called the Jets, or the Jets called Aaron, because we know they've been interested, and immediately, a lot of the stuff gets talked about behind the scenes, the Jets brought Hackett in with no guarantees, but Aaron acknowledging it mattered. Aaron also said today, Hackett means as much as any coach he's ever had. So what it tells you is Hackett probably
Starting point is 00:45:16 got hired by the Jets within a day of Aaron telling the Jets they don't want me. So Green Bay has controlled this thing. It's not the Jets, it's not Aaron. So who bends first? Do the Packers say, fine, we'll cave, or do the Jets? No, Packers are not desperate.
Starting point is 00:45:32 They're not bending. Jets are desperate now. Hey, there could be somebody else working on a Lamar deal down in Atlanta. Hold on. You just told me the Jets aren't making the playoffs next year. anyway. Well, they don't, you don't know that.
Starting point is 00:45:42 That's supposition. The Packers control this totally. I don't. They're the one that told Aaron. If Rogers retires, they are totally screwed on their cap sheet. Who cares? Massive. Go draft another quarterback.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I don't know. I mean, I'm a Jets guy, so I'm defending the Jets hold firm. You know, I'm a deal breaker where I just, I'm not going to cave. Like, you got your, what you're willing to give up in part with. They should not budge on this. I think the Jets are in control here. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:46:13 We'll see who bends first. I don't think Green Bay's bending, period. That's why Aaron said, do me right. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
