This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcasts. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific.
Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
Now let's get this party started.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
All right, we are Kavino and Rich.
We are Fox Sports.
C&R show in for Colin on the herd.
I'm Steve Kavino.
Nice to meet you.
Good morning.
Friday.
That is Rich Davis, super pumped about the holiday weekend.
Like we said before, holiday.
I'm excited because all kids are officially back in school.
It's our last weekend without NFL football, which means it's that time, man.
Save that thought because later this hour,
if we have time
because we're having fun, super fun time.
Are you more pumped about kids going back to school,
Thornton Mellon style?
Or more excited that football's back.
What gets you more pumped?
Plus Andy Reid, we got to talk Andy Reid.
And what's fun about being in for Colin is, well, lots of things, right?
Lots of new people listening.
We hope you check out our podcast, our new over-promised bonus show that we have.
Wherever you stream your podcast, just search Kavino and Rich.
But we also get to introduce some of our weekly segments, something called weekend hobnaving next hour.
It's what you need to watch in the world of sports and entertainment.
We do it later.
But thanks for hanging out again if you want to play along at home.
For those of you keeping score at home at Covino and Rich on social media.
Call us now, ready?
818-907-0062.
818-98-907-0062.
Again, I'm Covino.
And we want to talk about Aaron Rogers.
Yeah.
Say what's up to Mike?
He said he's a new listener, Mike De Niro.
Dwight Fisher, a lot of people chiming in saying, hey, they're loving the show.
We're on every afternoon.
So when Collins back on Monday, we're in for Dan Patrick on Monday, but usually we're on,
as Kavino said, 5 to 7 p.m. East Coast and here on the West Coast, 2 to 4 in the afternoon.
Since you're giving shoutouts, you want to know the power of the herd?
Apparently, my family in Mexico are huge fans of Colin, huge fans of the herd.
So when they got their podcast update yesterday and it said Kavino.
You mean El Herd?
Yeah, El Herod.
My cousins out there, they sort of lost it.
And they're like, no way.
Our cousin in America is filling in for Colin our hero.
Hi, Dios Meal.
So shout out to Jacob and all my family out there hanging out with us.
Yeah.
Huge in Mexico.
So, I mean, the power of the herd is real.
So it's an honor to be here.
And for those of you wondering, yes, my mom is from Mexico.
My dad is a skinny Guido from New Jersey, skinny Italian guy.
That's me.
Not that you care, but if you want to know what Kavino's dad looks like,
picture ravishing Rick Rood, but without the muscles.
Picture the gator, Ron Guidry, or Dennis Eggersley.
Or all of them combined, a little bit of yonnie in there.
Skinny dude with a mustache.
Right.
All right.
So your phone calls and feedback.
Aaron Rogers, he said it before the break.
He described his time with the Jets so far as a dream.
As a dream.
That's pretty, you know, that's...
Oh, sorry, my dream music is...
I was like, what is that?
I'm opening up Twitter, I'm not...
Rich's Sleepy Time music.
I thought...
I thought Ryan was playing a sound effect.
Me too.
I opened up Instagram, no joke,
to pull up the quote,
and coincidentally, Matt Leinard,
who I follow on Instagram,
had that as like the music to whatever he was doing.
Lucky that popped up and not what you were watching before.
Man, it's either sports updates or booty cheeks on my Instagram.
I'll be honest.
If you looked at my suggested, it really is like all 49er stuff and random models.
Well, let's look at it this way.
It's like a new relationship, right?
It's the honeymoon phase of the relationship.
And we've been very vocal.
I mean, it's noticeable, obviously, that Aaron Rogers has played every card perfectly in this new relationship.
He's been at other New York games.
He's shaking hands.
He's signing autographs.
The kids are loving them.
He's going to Broadway shows.
He's going to Broadway shows.
The kids are like,
and you got to stay here longer.
You got to stick around.
Don't retire.
He's like, why would I retire?
This is great.
Everybody loves him.
He's doing all the right things.
So he's sort of rebranded and reinventing himself.
It's like a new start, man.
It's a new Rogers.
And like I said, a love fest on both sides until something goes wrong.
We haven't seen anything go wrong yet.
Kavino, hold up.
Hey.
A beautiful dream, but for how long?
There you go.
Now, you've got to say to yourself, we've seen.
players come and go from New York, L.A., Chicago, big market teams, go somewhere else and
succeed. We've seen superstars come to big market teams and fall flat on their face.
Some people are cut out for the big city and some are not. Maybe Aaron Rogers all along.
All along was designed to be a guy in New York. But here's the question and we'll take your
phone calls right now. This beautiful dream Aaron Rogers is living in.
How long does it last?
And I have a part two to that question.
Well, if the dream continues.
It's a matter of how they handle the first hurdle, the first loss, the first big mistake.
Did you see on Hard Knocks this week?
They were making mistakes in a practice game, and he was losing it.
He dropped about 15 consecutive F-bombs in a row because he was so furious because they were making mistakes during a practice run.
Well, you see how Robert Sala treats Aaron Rodgers.
is like a contemporary.
Like he's the savior.
So how long does the dream last for Aaron Rogers in New York?
And then part two of the question is, let's you say, let's you say, the dream continues.
The dream continues.
And if they won a Super Bowl, would Aaron Rogers be one of the most legendary New York sports athletes of all time?
by simply taking the Jets
who are a historically
disappointing franchise
and making them a Super Bowl champion
it's not impossible
7 and 10 last year
last in the AFC East if you could take them out of the basement
to the Super Bowl
I don't think it's impossible
I mean
Tom Brady did in Tampa I know that's a
That really is a then he's living the dream
man let's keep in mind last year the Jets
they were 6 and 3 then they were 7 and 4
they lost their last 6 games they just got called
and sort of gave up
They're not a bad team.
Let's start with Matt in Virginia.
You're on with Kavino and Rich.
What's up, Matt?
What's up?
First time caller.
I love the energy.
Thank you, man.
I get to talk with you guys.
Thanks, man.
What's up?
So, I mean, looking at the Aaron Ryder situation,
I think it's, first of all, absolutely insane how,
what was it, three or four months ago,
dude was public enemy number one,
and now he's probably the most reveled man in America,
which I find extremely interesting.
And I have a lot of respect for it because,
and it made me think of it when you guys were talking about the Stafford issue
and connecting with the youth.
And there's Aaron Rogers and Soth Gardner putting up specific signs in practice,
and it's one of the youngest kids on the team,
and he's actually embracing it.
And I think it's pretty cool.
I mean, I'm a bird fan, so I'm not really – I'm impartial,
but I think it's very interesting.
It's very cool, and it's the key to success.
here. It really is. That's why the
Stafford story is more than meets
the eye, and we're seeing it. We're seeing
that ability he has, the ability that
Tom Brady had, too. And we saw
what happens. It's winning.
It's chemistry. And you see
that at the workplace, man. There's a lot of
people that have the ability to connect with the
younger guys at work. I take a lot of pride in that.
I do. There's guys younger than me. I
take a little bit of a pride and also
trying to maintain a younger vibe.
You know, I said this last week. And there's other people
and I don't want to point a spot, but really don't
connect the same way with younger guys.
Or connect with anyone.
Kidding spot.
Kidding spot.
But look at it this way.
There was an article, because, you know, I'm so well read.
There was an article in the New York Times about the importance of intergenerational friendships.
And how...
The last thing you read was where the wow things are.
I mean, that is true.
The last thing you read.
Scary stories to tell in the dark.
Berenstim Bears.
That's the last thing you read.
No, I read an article where it said having friendships of people younger or older.
And a lot of times it ties to sports.
Dude, I play softball.
I talk to guys that are 50 or 60, some guys are 30.
You chop it up with different people and you have friends of different ages.
It's important.
And that's important.
It's really important.
You should have the ability to talk to a 20-year-old and a 60-year-old.
You see Aaron Rogers, he's very bro-he.
He bros it up with all the coaches.
I mean, he knows everybody in the league, but he has the ability.
That's what great leaders do.
Think of our bosses, too, right?
They love to mix it up with everyone at the office.
Aaron Rogers has the ability to walk on the field, garner the respect, and it goes both ways.
to bro it out, hug it out with the older guys and the younger guys.
That's going to translate on the field.
Let's go to Frank in Georgia.
You're on with Kavino and Rich in for Colin on the herd.
What's up, man?
Hey, caposau.
Back to school.
Back to school.
To approve to dad.
I'm not a fool.
What's up, man?
Hey, not too much.
Just want to talk about Aaron Rogers.
And you're right, man.
And he's had the key for a long time.
What did he said before?
He said, R-E-L-A-X.
Relax, right?
And he's finally in that state where he could do that.
And like he said, he's throwing it up with everybody.
He's getting with the kids.
He went and he did the ayahuasca.
He's good, man.
You know, listen, I do wonder, though, because we're out here in Los Angeles
where people can listen on 570, as you know.
I'm a New Yorker.
I grew up in New York, and the minute things go bad, though.
Let's take a look at the jet schedule because inevitably, they're not going 17.
Go right ahead.
And I want to make another point.
why you look at the schedule.
Thanks for the call.
Hang tight and give us a call at 818-907-0-062.
We did knock the darkness retreats because we don't know about it, right?
We knock everything we don't know about.
I-A-waska.
What a weirdo.
What this hippie, hippie-dippy nonsense.
But let's rewind.
New York and look at freaking flam-yam.
Rewind, again, like you said.
I am not going to say he was enemy number one like our buddy just said.
But remember he was having issues with the young receivers in Green Bay?
Remember all the issues?
he was having with the young players there.
Maybe some of the stuff he did
really did help him in a way where he
could connect with younger guys.
Maybe he found himself in a different way.
Maybe that is really the new Aaron Rogers.
Maybe he learned something because here we are praising his ability
to connect with these young guys where Matt Stafford couldn't.
But a few months ago, he was the guy that the young guys
weren't connecting with at all.
Remember he was sort of big-timing his receivers and don't.
them out there. Now they're all BFFs and Buddy Chummy. I look at it this way.
The young guys at Green Bay probably have a totally different story than the young guys in New York.
Danny J. Ryan, you know when you're at the end of a relationship and you know, like, you know,
this girl, her and I are not going to last. The writing's on the wall. You sort of, you don't care as much.
You don't care as much. Do you get that sense the last year or so in Green Bay? Like,
Aaron Rogers didn't have that same, you know.
That's like when you're moving out of an apartment or something, you don't clean your place for like the last three months.
that's kind of what was happening in Green Bay. That's a good point.
Yeah, absolutely. You know, you stop. You see the relationships coming to an end.
And normally it's like, oh, Friday nights, we go off for date night.
Now it's been like three, four Fridays in a row.
No one even brings it up. You're like, we don't even talk about it before.
You're on the couch. I'm on my side and we're both just scrolling through TikTok.
Why would he invest in all these young players? He didn't see a future with anyway.
That's a, that's a real, at least explains it because when you think back to where he is now,
It's either a big front or it's the real deal.
You know what? Let's go through the first six games.
Kavino and Rich, in for Colin, on the herd.
Aaron Rogers, living a quote, dream in New York.
He loves it.
He says it's like waking up in a dream.
And it seems that way, too.
Coaches love him. He's loving it there.
I said this recently. Don't you hate those dreams where, let's just say something really good is happening in your dream and you get woken up?
You're like, oh, I want to get back to that dream.
It could be a dirty dream.
That does suck, yeah.
They can be a dream like you're playing short stuff for the Yankees.
And you're like, oh, it's a dream?
I do have those once in a while.
Danny G. Get your football hat on for us again.
Danny G., our super producer.
I want to go over the first six games because that is where a lot of people say,
you're going to see what this team is made of.
Are you ready?
Go ahead.
Let's go.
Jets' 2023 schedule.
Where will Aaron Rogers get caught up?
Where will the New York media for the first time be like,
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Where does the first blowout fight happen?
You remember in your honeymoon phase of your relationship?
I remember this clearly.
Honeymoon phase, things are great.
Oh, man, she's the best.
She thinks I'm the best.
This is awesome.
Then that first blow-up fight and the true colors really come out, and you're like, whoa, wait a second.
That's when you reassess and rethink everything.
Like, whoa, I didn't know it was going to be like this.
Again, everything in sports could be tied back to relationships, friendships, friendships, friendships,
friendships, work.
Yeah.
I'll be honest, think about this.
you could be working for someone and say, man, my boss is awesome.
Everything never gets mad.
You've never seen your boss mad at you.
It just hasn't happened yet.
You're dating a new girl.
Man, dude, she is the most chill, perfect woman ever.
And by the way.
Until your first fight and she tells you that you got a small something.
Aaron, yeah, right?
Yeah, then you realize no holds barred and you're going below the bell.
Aaron Rogers is a bit of an older school guy, right?
A lot of these younger guys, they're not used to being talked to that way.
A little more sensitive than the,
average fella. So you never know
how they could respond to Aaron
getting mad and yelling at them. We don't
know these things yet. I'm not rooting against
them, Rich. I'm just saying we don't know that.
Consensus around the room. Ryan,
Danny G. chime in with Kavino and Rich
here. Filling in for Colin.
All right, week one, Monday night
football.
It's in New York on 9-11.
Aaron Rogers debut as a jet.
Buffalo. On a very emotional
night in New York. New York Jets.
Buffalo's favored
by two and a half.
So Vegas and the world
is saying, this might not be the best start.
Let's play conservative and say what.
I'd say Buffalo wins.
Yes.
I would say Buffalo will probably win that game.
Danny?
I'm going to say Aaron Rogers drives the team
down the field for a game-winning field goal.
Danny G, if that happens, what a tone-setter for that team, man.
Okay.
Second week.
Man, I'm going Buffalo, too.
Okay, you're going Buffalo?
I think I'm going Buffalo.
too. But what the N.EG said is
not impossible, right? I may take the Jets
not to get off track, but I may take the Jets
in a teaser, six points, make that
Jets plus eight and a half.
You said let's be conservative about it, though.
I'm not high on the Cowboys, but as of right now,
you know when they project the spreads like weeks in advance,
they're at Dallas week two.
I think they win that. People think
Dallas, I don't know, I'm not all high on Dallas.
I said, let's give them a win, one and one, right?
Yeah, Jets got that one. Danny, Ryan,
are we cool with maybe giving them a win?
Yeah, I would go ahead and give him a win, mostly because Aaron Rogers, regardless of the circumstances,
loves playing in Jerry World and always has success.
Yeah. I'm going to go the other way again.
Yes, I am.
We might have to rewrite this down.
Danny may be a visionary.
Michael Parsons and that Dallas defense, no joke.
And remember, Stefan Gilmore now on the back end, that defense is going to come with it this season.
We still have them one and one.
Either way, we all have them one and one.
Right, right.
Week 3, Patriots.
Let's give them a W.
Can we zip past that one?
Yeah, it's in New York.
All right, W.
Two and one.
I don't know, Danny.
What do you think?
Man, I believe Belichick's got a lot of out of saying.
I'm seeing, you know,
Mac Jones takes this as an opportunity.
So, right, two and one.
At home again, but against the Chiefs.
I don't think you win that game.
You're two and two.
Consensus?
Yeah, two and two.
I would go two and two.
There's no way.
At Denver, which is tough to play a mile high,
but I'm not sold on Sean Peyton and Russell Wilson turning this thing around.
So let's just say three and two.
Okay.
Then they play the Eagles in New York, but the – three and three.
Three – I'm saying you've got to be – give it to three and three.
Because they might surprise you somewhere.
They might lose a close one.
Three and three sounds good.
So wrap it up with asking yourself this.
if Aaron Rogers and the New York Jets are three and three after week six,
do we look at this as they're on the right track
because they got past a pretty tough part of their schedule,
or do you say, nah, they're not that good?
Or do you think the New York media is like,
huh, three and three will take it?
I don't think that's what they're expecting from Aaron Rogers.
I just don't.
It's got to be real.
Expectations are high.
You know, you started this conversation with,
what if he wins a Super Bowl?
Does that sound Super Bowl bound?
A three-and-three start?
What are the Chiefs going to be at that point in the year?
Yeah, but then they hit a part of the schedule.
But then again, they play the bills again, the Dolphins.
They hit a point in their schedule where they got like the Falcons, Texans, commanders,
to the point where the Jets could hopefully roll later.
But your thoughts, we'll take your feedback.
Are they going to be a lot better? Absolutely.
But let's get to your phone call.
The number, 818-907-0062, Kavino-N-Ritch,
in for Colin Cowherd.
On the herd, and we got more next.
Want more herd?

Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions,
my journey from basketball to college football,
or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators,
and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to?
do a little kill. Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
It's Kavino and Rich, whether you like it or not.
It's the C&R show.
Love it.
And for Colin on the Hurd.
Yeah, I hope you love it.
Steve Kavino and Redmond.
Davis again, we're on every day on Fox Sports Radio Monday through Friday from 2 to 4 on the West.
So check us out.
We get it.
I'm a listener too.
So when I listen to a show that I'm used to hearing and I hear someone else, I'm always like,
who are these guys?
Well, you know, give us a chance and I guarantee we're not, we do something very different than common.
We're not the same as column, but every day.
You know what?
We should tell all the herd people.
Yeah.
We try to bribe listeners.
We do have bribery nerf footballs.
If you're pumped about football, you want to keep an extra football in your trunk in case a game breaks out somewhere.
That's always why I have things in my trunk.
I have cleats in my trunk.
I haven't used them in years.
But in case a game breaks out.
So we're giving away Nerf footballs.
We call them bribery balls.
CNR on FSR Bribery Balls.
If you follow our podcast, search Kavino and Rich and leave a nice review.
Danny G calls out names and emails people.
We give away bribery balls.
So subscribe to our podcast.
Get some Fox Sports Radio Goodies.
There you go.
But again, thanks for hanging out with us.
And Rich, how do you own the day in sports?
I want to know, before we continue with Aaron Rogers.
Well, you make incredible plays Aaron Rogers style.
But how do you do the rest of the day with Irish Spring?
When the spring hits you, you're ready to own the day.
So look for Irish Spring at your local retailer today.
You smell that?
Ah, I feel like that.
Irish Spring.
All right, well, CNN, in for Colin on the herd.
and we're talking Aaron Rogers.
It's a two-part doozy.
Two-part question.
Number one, based on his quote
that he's living a dream in New York,
he's living a dream.
What's your dream?
How long does the dream last?
And let's just say,
the dream never ends.
And Aaron Rogers brought a Super Bowl to the Jets.
The first one since Namath, the second ever,
it would be Broadway Joe and then, you know, struggling.
50 plus years later, you'd have Aaron Rogers.
He'd be a, dude, he'd be a New York legend.
What do you think of this, ready?
He'd be up there with Derek Jeter.
Ah, you took the words right out of my mouth.
First of all, I say that's blasphemous.
Absolutely not true as a Yankees fan.
More people care about football than baseball.
I'm sorry, but, you know, he won a few times Derek Jeter.
It's going to take more than one ring.
Hank Armantrout, though, agrees on our social media at Covino and Rich.
He says if Aaron Rogers takes the Jets to a Super Bowl takes him there, he leaps Derek Jeter in New York lore.
So that's the first thing people are saying if it does continue.
Well, we looked at their schedule and it's a little tough.
A lot of people said if they are three and three the first six games, that would guarantee, in their opinion, based on feedback, a playoff spot for sure.
Yeah, Slack said that hit us up.
Thanks for all the feedback.
Cains hit us up and he goes, I think the Jets start
1 and 3, and
that week 5 game against
the Broncos is a season
definer. He thinks... That's the 1.
Look at the first 4 games. They could
go 1 and 3. Bills,
Cowboys, Pat's, Chiefs,
they start
a little rough. They could
be 1 and 3 and then at Denver
could be a
season-deciding type of game.
Well, let's open it up. Fox Sports Radio Nation.
Your phone calls now at 818.
907-00-6-2-8-8-0-0-0-2.
It's our new number here for the day.
Who do we got?
That is Tom in Hamilton, New Jersey.
Kavino and Rich in for Colin on the herd.
What's up, Tom?
S-I-T-E-L on Google.
I have the audio from Brian Brushing here.
Okay, he put me a 100-sold away.
Yo, hello.
Tom.
This guy, this guy in the middle of a meeting?
He says, I need 11-10.
Tom?
This guy wheeling and dealing?
Was he a CB operator?
What's going on here?
Is that I hear a nineer in there?
Is he ordering a pizza?
What was he talking about?
Hit the squelch button.
Well, hit us back, man.
Go back to the hole.
Let's see if he's still there.
All that time for that.
Tom?
Tom.
Yeah.
Hey, you're on Fox Sports Radio.
What's up?
Oh, okay.
I was out.
Yes, you are on the air.
Who the hell were you talking to, by the way?
Yeah, what are you doing, man?
What are you dealing and dealing?
Oh, okay.
Hold on one second.
Hey, I saw Doug Satell, Tatelle, two T,
You used to be all 100 sold away.
This is hilarious.
Are we on hold?
Are we on hold her now?
Hey, listen, Bozo.
We appreciate you calling.
What are you doing?
You there?
He's an air traffic controller.
Is he landing planes at Newark?
Well, then, first of all, then why is he calling our radio show?
United in 17.
By the way, you realize.
You're cleared for takeoff.
Not only are millions of people listening.
My family in Mexico's listening.
And now they're embarrassed.
Now they're embarrassed because of the embarrassed.
You're embarrassed.
He's Mexico City family.
I'm just kidding.
My point is, there's so many people listening,
and this guy is still, what's he doing?
Tom. Tom.
Yeah.
You're on International Radio.
Hey, in the Chicago doctor on my YouTube.
Hang up on this guy.
Just smack him.
Tool bag.
You know what? Don't ever call back.
I love that guy.
Anyway, that was funny, but beat it.
I think it is the perfect time
to get into the Hurtline News.
Let's go.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Herdline News
I can honestly say
In any show I've ever watched,
Produced, been a part of
I don't think anyone's ever told the host
Hey, hang on a second
What's that?
Wait, hold on, let's see if he's there.
Tommy, you there still?
He's still talking.
Who is he? What is he doing?
He's doing his own show.
Man, that is, that was something.
All right, here we go.
Let's get back to this.
All right.
The Chiefs.
have their eyes set on trying to become the first
back-to-back Super Bowl champs since the Patriots in the early
2000s.
One player they're going to need in order to accomplish that.
They're all pro-defense linemen Chris Jones
who continues to hold out for a new contract.
His teammate, Travis Kelsey,
on his popular New Heights podcast.
He was talking about Chris Jones
and, well, basically begging for his return.
Oh, man, Chris, can you please come back?
You're really scaring me, man.
I don't get it.
You must know something that I don't know because I just don't get it.
I really want to get another Super Bowl ring with you, brother.
This is me bargaining you to just come back and play football for the Chiefs.
Please, we need you.
And I don't know what the situation is.
Come back, guys.
Come back.
Please, come back.
I don't know if you know this, Ryan.
I left a similar message for Nick Bosa on the Niners chat.
By the way, speaking of other guys that are holding that, Nick Bosa, they're rushing to finish this before week one.
And the Niners are saying, no trade talks.
This is silly talk.
So that's good, I guess, right?
Man, you got some star defensive players out, holding out for new contracts.
Let's see what Tom thinks.
Tom, are you there?
Yeah.
Hey, when Trump says, I can't work.
We took a new turn.
We took a new turn.
By the way, Trump is selling shirts now with his mum.
shot on it. Fun fact.
Oh, Tom. Never
changed, Tom. Never change. All right.
The Rams struggling to defend their Super Bowl
crowns. And this season isn't
looking great either. Their head coach
Sean McVeigh, some bad news regarding
receiver Cooper Cup, suffering a bit of a setback
with his hamstring injury that he's been dealing with all month
long throughout training camp. That sucks.
Yeah, another labeling
it day to day.
And this comes after Cooper Cup
said he had been seeing great progress.
and thought he was going to be ready to go for week one.
Very much in doubt now.
You know what sucks about that, Ryan, is that
even if you're not a fan of that team, no one likes injuries,
and Cooper Cup is in the prime of his career.
Until being injured last year,
he was almost outperforming the year he was offensive player of the year.
Cooper Cup is exciting and fun to watch,
and that's just a, it's bad for football.
You don't have to like the Rams.
It's bad for football.
You want him out there.
Oh, absolutely.
I mean, they were so exciting, such a fun offense to watch.
You never like to see such talented players unable to stay healthy on the field.
We'll wrap up with this.
You guys had a pretty good day yesterday, right?
You know, doing the herd for the first time.
Not bad.
It doesn't even come close to the day that Ronald Acuna Jr. had for the Braves.
So not only did he have a great game against the Dodgers,
but here's the backstory.
He also got married earlier in the day.
I saw that.
A very last minute wedding for Ronald Acuna Jr. and his longtime fiancé.
They have two kids together.
They had big wedding plans in Venezuela coming up in the winter after the baseball season, of course,
only to find out her visa was set to expire by the end of the week.
So over the course of 24 hours, they all flew out to L.A., planned a last second wedding.
He got up early, got married, came to Dodger Stadium, and got the win.
Hit a grand slam home run.
Acuna, pretty awesome.
And by the way, he's a 30-60 guy now.
I was just going to say that.
30-60.
The 60 is impressive, right?
That's it, right?
I saw there's memes and news headlines 30, 60.
I'm like, wait a second.
I wanted to double-check that before I even said it.
That's really impressive.
Props.
Yeah.
Do you remember back when we were –
I feel like the 30-30 was a big deal when we were younger.
And then, of course, Konseko did the 40-40.
Remember what Mickey Mantle said.
If he knew it was a thing, he would have done it every year.
And by the way, I know nobody cares, but I'm here.
So let me just say this.
The one shining light for the Yankees in the past few months,
Volpe went 20-20.
And it's the first Yankee rookie to ever do that.
It's kind of cool.
Kind of, I mean, kind of cool.
That does not make the herd line news.
Sorry.
Thank you, Ryan.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurdline News.
Yeah, you know, I was talking to one of my buddies, who's a Yankees fan like you?
And I'm like, you guys.
It's the only positive thing.
Watching Yankees fans, like, just struggle with the idea that their team stinks.
Oh.
It's so funny.
It's so funny because even when, you know,
haven't won a World Series since 2009, but Yankee fans still have that hope every year where
they'll win 90 to 100-something games.
No, it feels like they're in it.
Remember when Andy Hawkins pitched a no-hitter and lost it, like that era of the Yankees?
Like he pitched no-hitter and still lost.
That's kind of how the Yankees feel now.
It's just miserable.
So Volpe, who again, been hitting like 2-14 the entire season, which in today's game is not
that bad anymore, still has gone 20-20.
Did you just say 214 is not that bad?
I'm joking.
No, but it's sort of not.
It's kind of expected, though.
Batting averages don't mean as much, which I still think it looks like trash, but still,
he's gone 2020 now.
First Yankee rookie to ever do that.
You think of all the great players that have played there.
That is pretty impressive.
So one thing to be happy about.
So I'm a Yankees fan.
They'll hold that against me.
I love a great fight.
Big fight fan.
I'm going to tell you about some UFC later.
We got weekend hobnobbing.
what you need to watch this weekend.
So I love a good fight.
I love some good baseball.
I love a nice heiney.
I love talking some football.
I'm getting real excited for football.
We're going to talk a lot of football over the next hour.
But real quick, you brought up baseball.
And Ryan, during the Hirdline News, brought up Acuna.
Danny G. is a big Dodgers fan.
And I hope, just for the sake of Major League Baseball,
last night was just a preview of the National League Championship.
If you remember a year ago, the Braves, the Mets, and the Dodgers were all 100 game winners.
They all looked like they were on a collision course.
Like which of these two teams is going to battle in the NLCS?
They all laid an egg.
It was the Padres Phillies.
And it was such a letdown.
And you look at it now, and they really are.
By far, the two teams that should be there.
Danny, did you think last night was a pretty good preview of what's to come?
It was really good.
playoff atmosphere for sure at Dodgers Stadium. Something in the air extra.
Must be nice. You could feel it from the time that the first pitch was thrown. And, you know,
unfortunately for the Dodgers, Lance Lynn had a little bit of a White Sox flashback,
gave up some homers, especially that Grand Slam, obviously, to Acuna Jr. But you guys talked about
this with John Marosi just the other day of the MLB Network. When you have a really good team,
even when they're down big early, what do you say to yourself?
Oh, they could come back.
That's the number one factor in knowing, as my team really have it,
because you've been there where your team's down two in the seventh and you're like,
oh, they got this still.
And then there's other years where you like, you know it down two?
Yeah, that's game old.
They'll be down two in the third inning and you know.
That's over.
You know it.
At one point, the Braves were up seven to one and the Dodgers started hitting home runs.
Two of them from bets.
And so not only are you seeing the two best NL teams matchup, which is really exciting.
you're seeing the MVP race play out right before your eyes between Betts and Akunia Jr.
You know, what else you're seeing too, though, is players playing to their expectation, you know, people doing what they're expected to do.
Life works, forget about baseball.
Life works better when everybody does what they're supposed to do, period.
You know, Mookie Betz stepping up, Freeman's still doing his thing.
Like, all these players are playing the way they're capable of playing.
And sometimes beyond, that's magical.
That's chemistry.
And it's all about the home run.
We talked about that you said the low batting averages.
Last night when you look at the box score, Riley, home run, Akunia Jr., home run, Harris, home run, mooky bets, home run.
The whole – 90% of the scoring.
Bush, home run, bets, home run, Muncie, home run.
All about the long ball.
And you got a pretty good pitching matchup tonight.
Danny, if you were to say who's your favorite starter on the Dodgers right now, who do you have the most faith in?
Oh, man. Well, most recently, Lynn, and that's why Dodgers fans were so upset with the start of that game last night.
14 different starters for the Dodgers over this season. So it's kind of hard to answer that number because it's been a little, that question, because it's been a little bit of a rotating door.
But, you know, I look for the Dodgers to bounce back in a major way tonight. And by the way, you know who's on the hill?
Kobe's daughter is throwing out the first pitch tonight.
So we got some Mamba mentality for some extra emotion going into the Friday night game.
You know who's on the hill tonight?
Who's that?
Yorius.
Oh, yeah.
So there you go.
Money, baby, money.
And Max Fried.
I saw that.
For the break.
So this is a pitching matchup.
By the way, your dudes ERAs in the mid-four is big different than let.
Remember last year all the Dodgers pitchers?
ERAs are like two.
You know what?
You know who could have been a hero last night?
And I hated to see him have a bad at bat.
Kike Hernandez.
who the Dodgers obviously reacquired late in the season here.
And he stepped up two runners on.
Dodgers only down a run.
Ninth inning steps up two pitches right down the middle.
He watches them.
O. and two.
Third pitch.
He reaches for the pitch outside.
Out of there.
Game over.
I felt bad because Kiki would have been an extra L.A.
hero this morning.
Yeah.
I'm looking.
Hey, maybe he'll make it up tonight.
I hope so.
I know we're going to get to some more baseball.
It just had to give you a little taste.
No, no, no, no.
The whole playoff atmosphere and all the highlights from this game
and all the sexy names involved that are stepping up,
even if your team's not in it, you can watch tonight and get excited about the playoffs.
Oh, yeah. Listen, football is where in my mind's at.
But this is something.
But we had to give you a little taste of baseball because it was a playoff atmosphere out here in Los Angeles.
I'll be tuned in a minute.
And when you look at that MVP race, let me just make one more note on that.
The numbers are so huge for these two dudes,
Especially since you still have a month left of baseball, right?
A month left of baseball on Mookie Betts right now, batting 317.
And betting 300 nowadays?
It's like a unicorn.
317, 38 home runs, 98 RBI, which means he'll end up at like 40-something homers, 110 plus RBI.
And Acuna is batting 337, 30 homers, 83 RBI.
So these guys are battle-ins.
So these guys are battling.
You got to love that.
That's great.
All right.
You got Kavino and Rich in for Colin.
on the herd and it's all about the NFL.
So we will turn our attention back to the National Football League next right here on Fox Sports
Radio.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio, FS1 and the IHeard Radio app.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.

Hey, hey, welcome back.
We are Kavino and Rich.
Steve Kavino and Rich Davis, the CNN show, in for Colin.
On the herd.
Thank you.
Everybody for hanging out with us.
Putting up with us.
Yeah, I'll be honest.
It's an honor.
We're big fans of Colin.
Hey, you know what?
Colin.
One of the best ever in sports radio.
I want to thank Colin too.
To fill in for him.
I imagine Colin approves these things, right?
He's like, yeah, well.
Maybe not.
Or maybe not at all.
Who knows?
But hey, thank you either way.
It's always a pleasure to be here.
And again, subscribe to our podcast.
Just search Kavino and Rich wherever you stream.
And we're very excited about our new bonus show.
Not a lot of people here.
our Fox Sports have a bonus after

promise and I'll tell you why.
I'll tell you why.
Because Rich Davis blubberlips,
Blubberlips Davis, always
over promises in the bedroom. I mean,
in life and on the air.
Stop talking about life, please. We run out of time.
So every Wednesday now, we
have a bonus pod
and you could watch it on Fox Sports
Radio's YouTube page
and just search overpromise.
You know who overpromises? Every husband
and wife that have little kids.
Oh, yeah.
But they're like, oh, we'll get the kids to sleep,
and then you and me.
Oh, yeah.
And then you both end up like, one person falls asleep
with the kid in their bed and the other person's on the couch watching Netflix.
So thank you again.
That's called Life.

You said that's so unnatural.
I didn't even think it was a reed.
No, no, not at all.
I think Kavino's just telling me about Mercedes.
Yeah, man.
I mean, you don't want to hear about that.
Love Mercedes.
I saw a few things I wanted to get to on today's show.
And one of them is Andy Reed.
Andy Reed.
Andy Reid, who is such a character.
You know what it is?
I feel like when he was the head coach of the Eagles all those years,
I feel like I didn't know the side of Andy Reid we see now.
It's sort of like the fun guy.
You know how you talked about as a, I'm a Mets fan?
You said, who's this fun Buck Showalter?
When he was the manager of the Yankees and, you know, Orioles.
He was such a sour place.
He's young, had a lot to prove.
He seemed to be like a grumpy kind of guy.
Even though the Mets stink, this Buckshow altar seemed more pleasant.
Right.
I think Andy Reid, we're seeing a fun, more open Andy Reed in Kansas City.
We saw that with Tom Brady from New England to Tampa.
And I think part of it has to do with, you know, let's be honest, winning.
Yeah, winning culture changes everything.
Did I just pull with Charlie Sheen?
Winning.
Winning.
You can say it.
It's retro now.
But I think you see a more fun side of Andy Reid year after year after year.
And it's even great in commercials and stuff.
And Andy Reid came out with a pretty interesting story.
I saw this courtesy of S-I.
I still subscribe.
Why, you want that football phone?
I'm getting that flip.
No, to flip football phone.
Yeah, I'm getting that.
I can't wait.
Andy Reid said he was once approached by a janitor in Green Bay who had a play concept
for him.
And he ended up incorporating it into a game and got a touchdown out of it.
That's via the green light with Chris Long.
Did that janitor, did that janitor stand in the tunnel like the janitor from Rudy?
and slow clap.
But a cool story, right?
Like, hey, I'm just the janitor.
And I'm not saying janitors don't know football,
but it is an interesting story,
an interesting way to get a play.
So it made us think about, you know,
getting advice from an unexpected source, right?
Sometimes, especially with our lives, being on the radio,
every once in a while someone hit you up.
And you're like, you know what?
This guy who I don't know is right.
Thank you, Angel wearing jeans.
Besides Fox Sports Radio, I do some stuff on Sirius XM,
I had a listener hit me up once
with a hey you should do this on your
you know your pop countdown on the weekends
and I'm like you know what?
That's a great idea well
you just changed my life and you don't even know it
sometimes you get advice from an unlikely person
Right and that's what happened with Andy Reid
And you know we work for Fox Sports which is affiliated with IHeart
Now I don't know how true the story is
But I feel like I would always hear the story of
How did this company go from Clear Channel to IHeart
And from what I understand it was in a meeting
As legend has it.
There was like some young, you know, go-getter, some girl in the meeting was like, like, I-Heart Radio or something.
And they're like, what was it?
Say that again.
And I'm pretty sure.
What?
I said I heart radio.
That's why I chose this career path.
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
Hold on.
Johnson, did you hear what she just said?
Cross-out Clear Channel.
Say that again.
Say that.
Just say that.
I heart.
I heart radio.
That's it.
So, I mean, unlikely people giving you good advice.
And by the way, you know what happened in that story.
Yeah, the girl came up with it, but the guy, Johnson, took credit.
He took all the credit.
I thought you were going to say she got laid off during COVID.
Oh, that might happen to.
You know, I'm the one that even invented the name.
And she then said, I don't heart radio.
So, you know, I have a story with unlikely advice and we'll take your calls.
