Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest,
Starting point is 00:00:16 SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:00:39 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule. of two. Listen to Stuff to Blow Your Mind on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:35 On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam Jay. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:01:52 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black. people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Heard. Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh, here we go. It's hour two, live in Los Angeles. It's The Hurt. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening or viewing.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Thanks for my goodness part of your day. A lot of choices out there. Jay Mack joining us, Peter King, three minutes away. Jay Mack, what do you make? What do you make of my WrestleMania venture this weekend? I dig it. You're getting in touch with your younger, hip, or self. This seems like fun.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I wish I could go, but, you know, I got plans. You're going to watch the final four? And my kids have spring break. Oh, that's right. Are you on the road tomorrow? We may be on the road. Oh, okay. You're going to your...
Starting point is 00:03:04 I think you might have a pinch hitter in this seat next. Okay. I didn't know your vacate started tomorrow. Well, I knew you were going somewhere. I forgot that it starts, of course, tomorrow. It's a very fun... Have you been there before? Where we're going, yes.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Great place to go. It's a nice place to go, yes. It's a good little R&R action. Yeah, that's where I learned to swim, by the way. Oh, fascinating. I thought you learned that across the pond in London. No, I learned to swim where you're going on vacation from my dad in a pool. And I can remember, I can visualize it right now. Okay, so I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
Starting point is 00:03:40 You know, politics to me is just mute. I don't want to watch. I can't do conspiracy theory. I can't do it. I'm not built for it. I live in reality. I don't read a lot of fantasy books. I don't need escapism.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I don't believe in conspiracy theories. and we're about to get another one. So the Lakers are playing better now. LeBron is healthy now. A.D. is healthy now. And Austin Reeves has emerged as a real offensive threat. So you know I like Phoenix a lot. But Phoenix does one thing that's not great for the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Chris Paul and KD specifically, and often Devin Booker settled for jumpers. What does that mean? They don't get to the free throw line. They don't get other teams in foul trouble. 28th in the NBA is Phoenix getting to the free throw line. Nobody in the NBA is rooting against the sons. Officials are not rooting against the sons.
Starting point is 00:04:36 They don't initiate contact. Chris Paul settled for mid-range jumpers. KD statistically, number one settled for jumper guy in the league. Booker often does it. They don't get to the line. Meanwhile, as LeBron returns and Austin Reeves gets increased minutes, all three of the Lakers' top players are attack the basket guys. AD, LeBron, and Austin Reeves just initiates contact.
Starting point is 00:05:04 So the Lakers are going to get to the free throw line. In fact, they lead the league in it because they initiate contract. Malik Beasley, a three-point shooter, has vanished. He doesn't even play anymore. He's gone into the tank. So it's the reality. Here are the teams that shoot free throws. Do you think the league's really rooting for the kings?
Starting point is 00:05:23 no, they have players that initiate contact. By the way, Miami initiates contact. And so the Lakers are going to, and I've said this, I do not think they're a championship team. Why? Because of the health of AD and LeBron, I do not believe they can win three or four straight series. They'll fall apart physically. But I also predict if they opened up with Denver, they'd beat them. They'd get to the free throw line and they're a better defensive team.
Starting point is 00:05:53 So the two things in the playoffs that matter, two of the things that matter a lot, do you get to the free throw line and get other teams players in foul trouble? And do you play good defense? And the Lakers under Darwin Hammer playing excellent defense. Again, I do not see them as a championship team. But just get ready for the conspiracy theory because if they ended up playing a team like Phoenix, they'd have double the free throws. Chris Mannix talked about this yesterday on the show.
Starting point is 00:06:18 The Lakers, how he believes, are going to seize the West. I'm looking at this team and I'm seeing a complete group. Three months ago, they didn't have a functional roster. They had Russell Westbrook on it. They had a bunch of non-shooters. They made the changes they need to make to put the right pieces around LeBron and AD. And I think this team is going to take off. Now, some of it is a combination of the Lakers, I think, are better than people are giving them credit for.
Starting point is 00:06:42 And the top of the Western Conference is a lot worse. But I think this Lakers team is going to win the West. I believe it. Now, I don't, especially if K.D., Paul, D. Andre, A. and Booker can stay healthy. But if Phoenix does beat them, you do realize they'll do it shooting half the free throws. Said this for years to my friends when they whine about free throws. Golden State, by the way, settles for threes. Golden State shoots threes.
Starting point is 00:07:12 They have very little front court scoring. The Warriors, if they played the Lakers, would shoot far, fewer free throws. Sacramento plays Golden State. I got news for you. Sacramento initiates contact would get to the free throw line far more than the Warriors. Now, the Warriors have the greatest three-point shooter of all time and arguably Clay Thompson on any given night, the second best three-point shooter so they can get away with it. Here come the conspiracy theories if the Lakers make the playoffs. Peter King, Hall of Fame voter, covering the league since the 80s, football Morning in America, NBCSports.com.
Starting point is 00:07:51 So a couple weeks ago, I said, or maybe a week ago, that Lamar Jackson, there's a little bit of a Kauai Leonard thing where he's kind of untrusting. He takes a family member as an agent. He's gotten a little unorthodox. And I do think that there are teams, despite their gifts, that just aren't interested in that. Popovich moved off Kauai, nonverbal, not your classic prototype player. and everything was difficult. I like Lamar.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I'd re-sign him. Kenny Pickett looks good. Deshawn Watson should get better. Burroughs a star. I don't think you can go into that division with the fourth best quarterback. Are you surprised, Peter, at the turn, the Lamar Jackson Ravens situation has pivoted to. You know, Colin, it just leads me to believe that Lamar Jackson really doesn't want to be in Baltimore anymore. because if you've been talking to the Ravens for a year and a half to two years about trying to make a deal and you can't make a deal, why is that?
Starting point is 00:08:59 I mean, honestly, if you think about it, you have to think that there's got to be some roadblock in Lamar's mind. If he really wanted to make a deal, he'd figure a way to make it work. Now, to me, if, as Lamar Jackson said in his tweet to Adam Schaefter, a week or two ago that why do I need an, and I'm totally paraphrasing, but why do I need an agent? You know, the Ravens have offered me three years, 133 million. Whether that's true, close to true, whatever, to think right now that Lamar Jackson in a guaranteed contract is worth more than three years and 133 million when he has missed 34% of the state. snaps due to injury in the last two years, when he has started and finished one game in December
Starting point is 00:09:53 and January in the last two years because of injury, you think if you're a general manager, would you give him more than three years at $44 million a year? I don't, I mean, I don't understand what the holdup is, but evidently there's a holdup, and that's why I think Lamar Jackson, and probably, probably. I don't know, but I'm just reading the tea leaves. Probably doesn't want to be in Baltimore anymore. By the way, I didn't know that. He has started and finished one game the last two years in December, January.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's like a... That's correct. One out of 12. One out of 12. I mean, there you go. For all that give him his money, that's a, whoa, whoa, you can miss September. You got to be around late. Okay, let's now shift to Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:10:43 I think, you know, sometimes relationships, two ships, you know, going past each other in the night, how difficult do you think this is not, let's not talk Aaron for a second, for Green Bay. This is a Midwest, they draft and develop, they don't like drama, they're very responsible, they're responsible fiscally on the draft with trades. How difficult do you think moving off Aaron is? Or do you think Aaron made it easy for Brian Gudenkundt? I think this, there is absolutely, totally unequivocally, nothing different between what Ted Thompson did with Brett Farr 15 years ago this month
Starting point is 00:11:28 and what Brian Goudicundt is doing right now with Aaron Rogers. Of course, it is a heavy, heavy decision by both general managers. But it's really in both cases. I'm not saying it's the only decision that they could make, but it feels like the Aaron Rogers expiration date in Green Bay is here and it's time. And Colin, I don't think it really matters right now when exactly this deal is going to get done. This deal will get done. And that's why, honestly, I just don't think that it's that big a deal. that it hasn't happened yet.
Starting point is 00:12:13 It's March 31st. This will happen before the draft. It just will. If I'm wrong, I will come on your show and you can pelt me with tomatoes. But this is going to happen before the draft because the Packers do not want to get zero return in this year's draft for Aaron Rogers. So I believe part of the compensation package will be a two this year. And then it'll be something else in a future draft. That's the exact way it should be.
Starting point is 00:12:48 So I was saying yesterday, Peter, you see it a lot. I've seen it a lot in my corporate career where you have an executive. They flourish for years. And then all of a sudden, the culture within the media business changes, they don't get less intelligent, but they don't pivot very well. And suddenly they look very outdated. I don't think Belichick's less intelligent than three years. years ago. But the league has changed. DC to an offensive coordinator feels
Starting point is 00:13:18 completely tone deaf. Brett Veach and Andy Reid rebuilt an O-line in one-off season and a receiving core in one-off season. New England can't get the receiving core right for six years. Sean McDermott can't get the running game in the O-line right. It's been six years. I do think we're having a cultural shift. McDermott can coach. Bill's smart,
Starting point is 00:13:38 but they feel tone-deaf. The Robert Kraft-Belichick public comments feel like to me on Mac Jones, on money, it feels like to me there is a cultural divide between the two men that Bob doesn't care about Bill and 30 more wins to surpass Shula because Bill always asked his players to not be into records and stats, be into winning. I don't know. I feel like Peter, this is not a hot take. If this is an 8-9 team next year, I kind of think it's over. I think, I don't know how it ends,
Starting point is 00:14:14 but I don't see this as Bill gets the job as long as he wants. How does it land for you? Since Tom Brady walked off campus, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots against Buffalo and Miami are three and ten. Wow. And I just think Robert Kraft is not going to stand for many more years of that. That's all.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Three years without a playoff win. Fair, unfair. right, wrong, whatever. A lot of people think it's sacrilegious to talk about moving on from Bill Belichick. But Colin, I think when I look at the New England Patriots right now, and I look at Bill Belichick, and there is this unspoken thing that certainly Belichick will never talk about and that Robert Kraft dismissed this week at the NFL meetings is what about the Don Schuller record? Well, Bill Belichick's got 329 career wins, regular season and playoffs. He needs 19 victories to pass Don Chula.
Starting point is 00:15:18 So here's the question. 19 victories. Is there any way Patriots get those in the next two years? As of right now, Colin, here's a question for you. Here's a question. Can you make me a legitimate argument that they're better than, if Aaron Rogers plays for the New York Jets, if Tua Tua Tua is healthy this year,
Starting point is 00:15:40 if he plays 13 of 17 games, let's say. Can you make a legitimate argument that the Patriots are better than any team right now today in the AFC East? I can't. It's also, you know, for years, Peter, and the cultural shift bears this out. It was always the most important person was a corner, then an edge rusher, then a left tackle, then maybe a cornerback. there's an argument after quarterback that a great offensive weapon on the perimeter, Cincinnati's got them. You start looking at these teams.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Philadelphia went and has a couple. Kansas City has them. Miami. The weaponry matters more than ever because the rule changes. Every receiver now is willing to go over the middle. In the 70s and 80s, it was hard to get receivers willing to go over the middle. New England's arguably the worst receiving core in the league with Juju Smith, Schuster. And so to me, if Aaron goes to the Jets, they easily have, easily have the fourth worst weaponry in a league where that's now significantly more valuable than 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:16:52 That's how I view them. I think you're right about that. And this is not being ultra critical of Bill Belichick. It's just talking about how, no matter how great a coach you are, really, no matter how fantastic you are. and how many holes you can patch and everything. The bottom line in the National Football League is very simple. If you don't have an answer at quarterback, you do not have a good team. It's all there is to it.
Starting point is 00:17:20 And the Patriots since the day that Tom Brady left town are 25 and 26. That's just the way life goes. Right. It's not Bill Belichick can't coach and this is bad and that's bad. if you don't have a quarterback who answers a lot of questions. Now, it's why Colin this year, in my opinion, the most significant person. I'm not saying most valuable, whatever, the most significant person in the organization this year is Bill O'Brien. Can he get Mac Jones to do when he got Bryce Young to do the last two years at Alabama?
Starting point is 00:17:56 And I think there's a chance he can. I think there's a chance he really improves Mac Jones and gets them back. to even better level than he was in the first half of his rookie year. So I'm not totally pessimistic. I'm just simply saying that the AFC East is the best in total right now than at any point since Bill Belichick took the job in 2000. Yep. Absolutely true.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Josh Allen, I said this yesterday. If Tua is upright, I'm not even sure. the Jets make the playoffs with Aaron Rogers. That's how that offense, when Tua's upright, I mean, he was, let the NFL and pass a rating. So I know Josh Allen's going to score. I know Tua upright's going to score. I'm not sure Aaron gets in.
Starting point is 00:18:46 Good stuff from Peter King. By the way, my stat, the best stat on this show in this year that I didn't know is Lamar Jackson has start and finish one of 12 games, one of the last 12 December, January. That is jaw drop. So you know, we'll send you a shirt or something, Peter. I don't know what we'll send you, but that was good. That was Howard Mug.
Starting point is 00:19:09 That's what I want. Okay, you got one in the mail. Peter King, NBCSports.com, football morning in America. Thank you, sir. I appreciate to have a great weekend. So J-Mack, even J-Mack. Come on, come on. I love Peter King, but come on, Peter.
Starting point is 00:19:26 That is a jaw-dropper. Peter, if you're still watching, I will text you about this. Listen, what, Jim Harbaugh, sorry, John Harbaugh getting on the phone with him right before this. Hey, hey, Peter, remember, I mentioned this. No. Come on. I mean, come on. Well, I think the real question is.
Starting point is 00:19:41 One of 12 games you start and finish. I'm not paying you guarantee three and four years. Peter King. Could Lamar Jackson, in your opinion, have played at the end of last season, or was he sitting out pouting because of the contract? Whatever it is, my daughter gets in a wreck, her third in a month. I don't care about why. Are you safe and stop getting in wrecks? I don't care why he's not playing.
Starting point is 00:20:05 He's not playing. I don't care how the sausage is made. I said this yesterday. If I had a kid that got in four car wrecks in a month, I'd worry first about their safety. I'd take their license away. Secondly, I don't want to hear excuses. It's not somebody else's fault.
Starting point is 00:20:19 You have a driving issue. So let's get back into school. Let's get in a safer car. Let's get your stuff. Use Uber. I don't care what the reason is. Lamar doesn't play late in seasons. I'm not giving you three years guaranteed.
Starting point is 00:20:31 You are literally, that's like as an owner and a GM, if you gave him a four-year guaranteed contract, in the first year of it, he's heard again in December, January. That's how you lose your job. All right. Let me just point this out. Some guy, he has a blue check mark for now. Elon Musk is probably going to take it away.
Starting point is 00:20:50 That means nothing. I know, exactly. This guy pulled the stats. Since 20081 quarterbacks have started 50 games. Lamar has been active for 70 of 82 games. That's 85%. That ranks 18th out of 81 possible quarterbacks. He's there available a lot, Colin, compared to quarterback to the last 22 years.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I think we're overreacting to what happened at the end of this season and a fluke ankle injury suffered in the Cleveland. Fluke. You know who never had a fluke injury? Brady. Eli Man. What about the broken leg in week one, the Bernard. Pollard play, missed the entire season. Yeah, and Michael Jordan broke a foot and missed a year, but so did John Stockton, I think,
Starting point is 00:21:35 had an injury. Maybe he didn't. Again, I'm not, I don't, I'm not a big excuse person. Like, it's the late to work. If you're consistently late to work, I don't, my car broke down. Well, the traffic's bad. Leave earlier. I'm not into excuses, right?
Starting point is 00:21:53 You can keep telling me you're late to work. Get up. Well, you know, I'm, I've got, I'm on a medication. The traffic's bad. It snowed up where I live. So what I like about life is when you get new information, right? You change your mind. We're waiting for information, Lamar.
Starting point is 00:22:12 We need to defend you. We want to help you, bro. Come on. Like, he's got to talk. I mean, Lamar is getting blasted by you, Peter King. By the other, jabroney with a microphone. You do. And I feel bad for Lamar Jackson right now.
Starting point is 00:22:23 I didn't know I was a jabroney. No, you're not. Other guys out there. But the point is, I'm not a Lamar hater. I know. I realize that. I have been from day one. Burroughs the second best quarterback in the league.
Starting point is 00:22:35 Deshawn should be better. And can he pick up one seven and nine? Now, I think they're good enough culturally to be in games every week. They're so well coached. They're so tough. But eventually, you've got to get a guy. And so I would sign him. But you would have to acknowledge an orthodox is not a.
Starting point is 00:22:53 term you want for a star quarterback. What's on Orthodox? On Twitter, no agent, mom represents. It's like Kauai Leonard. It's a great player. He literally shows up at 4 o'clock and tells Ty Lou, I can't play tonight. There's got to be someone watching who's in Lamar Jackson Circle, who is hearing this discussion and saying, dude, you need to defend yourself.
Starting point is 00:23:14 I just don't like... You've got to come out and talk. You have to have somebody representing you. I'm not anti-Lamar. I get it. I know. For a year, I got crushed by people for say... You are, do you like him because of this, this, this?
Starting point is 00:23:26 And I'm like, dude, he won 75% of his starts. Awesome. That's all I care about. It's incredible. Four games, he wins three. That's in a tough division. That's all I care about. If he's healthy, their first place in that division.
Starting point is 00:23:34 They were ahead of the Bengals when he went down. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week, within the IHard Radio app. Search Hurd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with a little Kim?
Starting point is 00:26:00 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
Starting point is 00:26:20 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so, you know, But just so you all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:26:38 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Groundbreaking runs in the family. innovation runs in the Mercedes-Benz family. Eight new models of SUVs. Check them out at MBUSA.com. J-Mack on a Friday with the news.
Starting point is 00:27:03 No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. How about Josh Allen? How about him? One of the best quarterbacks in the AFC. They've come up short in the playoffs. He's yet to get to a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:27:19 Bill's legend, Jim Kelly. believes that Buffalo needs to improve. Where have I heard this before? The run game to help out Josh Allen. Here's what Jim Kelly had to say. Josh can't do everything by himself. And I hope they find a way to get a star running back. But I always thought Singletary was pretty good.
Starting point is 00:27:37 I just didn't think we used them enough. But you know what? When you've got a guy as good as Josh Allen, they tend to probably get a little greedy and want to use him more than you probably should. But Ted Dorsey is doing a great job. And Josh, I just hope it that we're going. get that running game going to take some of the pressure off him. Interesting organization. So Brian Daibol
Starting point is 00:27:57 had success there left. Did you see, am I crazy? Leslie Frazier was on this staff last year, wasn't he? I don't know. Ken Dorsey was the O.C. Leslie Frazier was on the staff. Why did he leave it to take a year off? Are you dropping something here that I should be digging into? Sean McDermott's very intense, very old school,
Starting point is 00:28:21 can wear people out. puts a lot of pressure on the staff. We see Dorsey go crazy upstairs. Leslie Frazier suddenly takes a year off. I think this offense is best if Sean McDermott stays away from it. He can't develop a no line. He can't develop a run game. The world's changing.
Starting point is 00:28:42 You've got to be able to know what you don't know. They picked up Damien Harris from New England. He'll be, I think, the starter. James Cook, Dalvin's brother, the backup. Naim Hines, who had a nice... playoff game, I believe. They don't lack talent at running back. They lack an offensive mind that create a run game.
Starting point is 00:29:00 I even like Singletary Moss. They were fine. They're not without talent. This idea, they have a center I like, capable backs, a star receiver, Dawson Knox, a very good tight end. Josh Allen's a once-in-a-lifetime gifted player. Why couldn't they move the ball against Cincinnati? Well, Cincinnati's D.C. is pretty well-regarded.
Starting point is 00:29:20 I'm not disputing that. You've got to do better than what I watched against Cincinnati. Why did Skyler Thompson give them a battle late third quarter at home? Even the Jets shut that clown down. Oh, come on. I should note, you know, Bejohn Robinson, Texas Longhorns, are they in the mix for that kind? No, they got to fix their own line. By the way, they don't have a lot of needs.
Starting point is 00:29:46 They just need to win in the playoffs. I find what's going on there very interesting. Make a break here for McCormick? having a sabbatical, can't get the O-line right. So what could change if they don't break through to the Super Bowl this year? I don't think I've ever. No, I think if you regress again, I told you last year, when I watched Mike McDaniels go in once with Tua and once with Skyler Thompson,
Starting point is 00:30:11 Buffalo was clearly the better team. In Buffalo, chilly and cold weather. Late third quarter of both games, I'm like, we've got ourselves a ball game here. Jets covered the spread twice against the bills last year. Did get one win outright. And they were terrible at quarterback. So should Josh Allen be playing close games with the Jets? No.
Starting point is 00:30:31 They regret. Jets defense, baby. Zala. Next up. Oh, look, it's the Jets. Because we don't talk about them enough. Aaron Rogers, you know, it seemed like the holdup was going to be about the Jets sending the first round pick to the Packers.
Starting point is 00:30:43 But now the sticking point is that New York wants protections if Rogers retires. We touched on this yesterday. According to Yahoo Sports, here's the framework. The Jets get Aaron Rogers. The Packers get a 2023, that's next month's second, and a 2024 second round conditional. So now, according to Yahoo, the Jets may not need to give up a one. Now, the next year's pick could become a one if Rogers plays and blah, blah, blah. But that sounds like the framework is in place.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Packers are walking at, you know, not getting that 2024 pick if Roger says, I'm done, I'm out, I can't handle it. I want to retire. Well, I think your initial suggestion, which is, you know, is give the Packers a second this year if Aaron plays a first next year. That feels reasonable to me. I think he's worth more than two seconds. So your takeaway is it's just a second if Aaron plays one and done. This scenario is very real.
Starting point is 00:31:42 How about this? A second and a fourth and then nothing next year. A second and a third and nothing next year. Well, that's interesting, but the Packers know this. There's a chance. Rogers is hurt. right? Didn't he hurt the thumb this year? And he was not 100% effective?
Starting point is 00:31:57 He's 39, Colin. Let's say he gets hurt, has to miss five games. Jets go 7 and 10, 6 and 11. Aaron's getting ripped. Aaron decides, I don't need this crap. I'm hurt. I'm banged up. I'm out. So now the Jets would have probably like the 10th 11th pick in the draft. That would go to the Packers next year and you don't have Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:32:15 So the Jets need to protect next year's pick. They have to. You can't give the Packers like a top 12 pick and you have no, you got Zach friggin' Wilson. back to quarterback. Come on. No shot. Those are laughing, man. This is real. This could happen. I know you're wishing negativity upon my Jets. I'm just looking forward to WrestleMania, so my mind's just, no, I think your initial suggestion makes sense. I do think Aaron's going to give it two years. I don't think
Starting point is 00:32:42 he's going to play there for years. I think he's going to give it a two-year run. But just Jets be ready. He's not going to commit after his first year in the offseason. So come to terms with that because that's just who he is now. That's fine. A year ago, did any think Aaron Rogers would go on a darkness retreat this summer? Well, Aaron is telling you who he is. As long as the Jets are comfortable, he's not going to be hanging out in New York in the offseason. It's not what he does.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Again, we've got multiple reports from people who cover the Packers is that LaFleur scheduled meetings with Aaron every week. Sometimes Aaron Jets didn't show up. And it's not like in Green Bay there's a lot to do. He's not married. He doesn't have kids. It's not like Aaron's, like, busy in Milwaukee. I mean, so Aaron no-showed in Green Bay for meetings with LaFleur.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Think about that. Again, it's not like my kids having a recital. My kid has a little like, I always get that. Like an older quarterback, Stafford with kids, Brady with kids. Or you're in a robust city like New York, L.A. You've got Sony wants to do an advertisement with you in an off week. No, Aaron in Green Bay, single no kids, I don't even think he's a pet, didn't show up to multiple scheduled meetings.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Why? And again, you have to embrace this. That's just who Aaron is now. He has his own clock. I've said this before to people, even in our industry. You've got to be really talented if you're going to live in your own clock. If you're always late for meetings, you're late to pick up people, you're late for assignments. You better be really good. You better be Charles Barkley. And a lot of people, a lot of athletes, or former athletes, they live on their own clock. and it's just it really irritates people right like it's one of the world
Starting point is 00:34:26 I tell my kids this all the time show up early one of the worst habits because it's disrespectful to those left waiting is I'm on my own clock the messaging is when Aaron does that I'm above you
Starting point is 00:34:38 your time is not as valuable as my time so I think it's very dangerous to schedule meetings with people forget being late Aaron don't even show up to him that message Messaging is terrible message.
Starting point is 00:34:52 You're telling me, Matt, my time is way more valuable than your time. I just wasted 90 minutes of your life. There's very few things that tick me off. My time's valuable. So is yours. Like, let's be respectful of time. I got to be on. Are you sending a message to me?
Starting point is 00:35:07 Because I am, my son's in a volleyball tournament in, you know, this summer on the East Coast. And I was going to lobby to do the show from Orlando for a couple of days. I have no right. Look at Cowherd. Look at him. He's looking at him. He's slylyly. Oh, dang it.
Starting point is 00:35:21 We'll figure it out. All right. Next up, Dallas Mavericks. They've lost five of six. Cowher. This is stunning. They are 8 and 14 since acquiring Kyrie Irving. Six and 14 in their last 20 games.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Dallas now one game back of the Thunder for the final playing, and they do not have the tiebreaker. GM Nico Harrison, I think that's the guy they plucked from Nike. Acknowledge the team has a gel-d-yet. But he's optimistic on the pairing of Luca and Kyrie. The potential is limitless. I think you have a Ferrari and a monster truck. You know what I'm saying? Both amazing and awesome machines, but different styles, which makes us super dynamic.
Starting point is 00:35:55 They can play off each other. They can play with each other. Combinations are limitless, really. And there's not that many players in the league that are as good as these two. Yeah. Well, do Ferraris and monster trucks break down a lot? Because on the defensive end, Luca and Kyrie break down consistently. And that's the bigger problem.
Starting point is 00:36:13 I don't care about their offensive end. They'll figure that out. That part I'm not worried about. I'm worried about off the court, Kyrie can wear people out. Luca apparently can too because he didn't get along with Porzingis and Bruns. I think the offensive part, they'll figure out. But I watch the Mavericks play. I don't think they're in the 90s.
Starting point is 00:36:32 I don't worry about getting buckets. I worry about on the defensive end, neither of you guys can stay in front of people. And on a lot of a – I watch enough Mavericks basketball. They're not – they don't play with much defensive intensity. They absolutely play with conviction on the offensive. offensive end. And they're fun to watch, as we predicted. They're fun to watch. With Dorian Finney Smith, last year they were top 10 in defensive efficiency. Now I believe they're 23rd in the league.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Kyrie couldn't defend me. I've said this about Kevin Durant. He's not a great defender, but he's a willing defender. Steph Curry is a willing defender. He's not great. You don't have to be Draymond Green. I'm not asking you to be Jalen Brown, but you got to give an effort on that end. Mello, didn't give much of an effort. the playoffs without Luca and Kyrie, that would hurt. I mean, the play in now is like OKC New Orleans. Nobody cares. If it's Luca and Kyrie versus anyone, that's a lot. Well, you know what's going to happen, though? The Eastern Conference is going to be way more interesting early. I mean, first of all, Knicks are going to draw an audience. Sixers have stars
Starting point is 00:37:39 drawn audience. Celtics, huge brand. Milwaukee. Miami's got a great brand. I mean, Pat Riley, Spolster, Jimmy Butler. The Eastern Conference playoffs to me are going to be significantly more captivating. Really? Oh, I think the West is a bunch of weird teams. Suns Clippers, interesting, no Paul George. Sacramento versus the Golden State Warriors? That Oh, come on. That might be the best series.
Starting point is 00:38:04 If Wiggins doesn't play? Come out. Cavs Nicks first round, nothing in the West will be that good. Caves Nix is going to be... Lakers Grizzlies? Could be the 2-7? I'd take Cavs Nix. Cavs Nix is going to be unbelievable. A defensive team, an offensive team that can defend, a little older team, a bunch of kids.
Starting point is 00:38:22 It will be great. Maybe we'll have to rate the top 10 series or top 7. Well, Milwaukee, Boston will be interesting. Last night they play, don't take anything out of it. I'll tell you what. Oh, really? Nothing out of it? I'll tell you why.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Oh, okay. J-Mac with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Live. weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app. Hi, this is Jay Glazer, and you may know me for the world of football or fighting or even shows like HBO's

It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jay.
Starting point is 00:41:39 And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Thank you for finishing that sentence. And I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In less than three weeks, Real Football for Real Fans is back. The 2003 USFL season opening kickoff weekend starts the new season on April 15th and 16th on Fox, NBC, and
Starting point is 00:42:39 By the way, we've had play clocks in sports for years. Baseball didn't want to use one, but so many players in baseball were taking advantage of the sport. The classic batter who steps out of the box every pitch, the pitcher who takes 45 seconds between pitches. It would be wonderful if everybody pitched like Mark Burley. 90% of the sport doesn't. So once again, people taking advantage of the goodwill of a sport and you have to make loss. I'll give you a great example of this, not Delta, airlines, now are considering a no-fly list, meaning if they have to throw you off a plane, you can never fly again. Airlines don't want to do that. They don't want to alienate, but there's too many idiots, greedy, arrogant people that think there, you know what, doesn't stink, and they put the flight and the crew in danger. They create chaos on a plane, and so the airlines are going to have to create a no-fly list, and there'll be hundreds and thousands of people they kick off forever.
Starting point is 00:43:35 They don't want to do it. Baseball doesn't want to change its rules. they struggled with little league baseball embraced replay before baseball would they don't like change it's a sport that romanticizes the past and struggles with the current but they had to make changes with the play caw pitch clock because so many players arrogant thinking they're above the game not worrying not being self-aware about the speed and the tempo of the sport took forever and because of that they have to implement a pitch clock I watched yesterday two games. Flew by. Flew by. The game is better. Baseball reluctantly made changes.
Starting point is 00:44:17 They started in the minor league. But the winner is you, the fan. The sport is simply more fun to watch immediately with the changes. All right. So I saw an NBA game last night. I've said this before. That there's about 10 regular season games a year in the NBA, which I really think are important.
Starting point is 00:44:34 I try to watch a half every other night, every night on the treadmill. so I was all geeked up to watch the Bucks and the Celtics, and it was over after a kind of fun competitive first quarter, it was awful. I take nothing from it. Celtics won by 41 points. Why do I take nothing from it? Let's look at the facts.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Milwaukee's the oldest team in the league. Brooke Lopez, Chris Middleton, Janice is in his 10th year, Joe Ingalls, Jay Crowder, Drew Holiday. They are the oldest team in the league. It was the third game in four nights. but more importantly, they had played in a wild offensive shootout with Indiana the night before. So Drew Holliday, a real grinder, had 51 against the Pacers, and last night was out of gas and he had six.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Once you get to the playoffs, everybody is equally rested. Milwaukee is a great defensive team. They are number two or three in the league in opposing field goal percentage. and yet they surrendered 140 points. I think the Celtics, when I, at halftime, I think Boston may have had 60, 61 points. I mean, it was just, it was awful. That's not who Milwaukee is. Third game, four-night, back-to-backs for the oldest team in the league.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Now, I do think Boston, when you watch them play Milwaukee, the Celtics do look at times quicker. Milwaukee can struggle to stay in front of a Jalen Brown or stay in front of a Jason Tatum. I also think Boston has to be concerned about Robert Williams' health. They just lack size without him. Boston does match up this year very well with Milwaukee. It should be noted, Cleveland, very dangerous, has played Boston several nights. Cleveland matches up with Boston very well. So the NBA playoffs are often about matchups, but I just don't take much from last night.
Starting point is 00:46:32 It's nothing against the Celtics. They're a very good team. I believe they'll end up in the Eastern Conference finals, but once the playoffs arrive, then everybody's equally rested. It's a whole different ball game. But when you look at the game the night before for Milwaukee, when they got in a wild offensive game,
Starting point is 00:46:51 Drew Holliday's got, you know, a huge night, comes back the next night with six, Drew didn't have a second gear, and that's what I take from it. What's your concern level about Chris Middleton, who for a while has been the Robin to Janus's It's a very legitimate question. He's not the same player.
Starting point is 00:47:09 He's not. So he is not nearly as dynamic as he was a year and a half ago. Now, he's still a good shooter. Well, but there's a reason. 31% from three this season. His worst three-point season shooting since his rookie year. Okay. He's been really injured.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Yeah, he's definitely not the same guy. He is now, instead of being a two, he's arguably a three to a four. So can you ask Drew Holiday to be a two while defendants? on the wings throughout the game against the Tatum and Brown. This is why they bring in an Ingalls, a Jay Crowder. They are old. And against Boston, who's younger and quicker, they look slow. By the way, Cleveland really young sometimes makes Boston look less athletic.
Starting point is 00:47:53 So youth has a purpose. It's mostly in the regular season. And Cleveland has used that youth and energy against Boston. I've seen them play two or three times. It's like they give Boston some problems. They can score the ball against the Celtics, a very good defensive team. So I think the Chris Middleton factors are really legitimate.
Starting point is 00:48:12 He has aged fast. Hey, Chris Paul this year has aged fast. This league's gotten younger. It's gotten more athletic and younger. I think we'll talk about who's coming out of the east to end the show today in that headline segment we've been doing for how many years now, five? It's red hot. People are talking about it.
Starting point is 00:48:30 Unbelievable. Awesome. Okay. We heading a Friday to our Friday. final hour of the week. We got some decent weather this weekend in L.A. It's there. Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy,
