Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed human. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me. Clivert Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits,
Starting point is 00:00:12 my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfills of conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
Starting point is 00:00:28 So let's get to it. Listen to the. the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 is big to me. I'm Sam Jay.
Starting point is 00:00:45 And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRedio.com or stream us live every day on the IHart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go, hour two. Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, thanks for making us part of your day. We are going to bring that back. We're going to call it the confidence meter on quarterbacks yet unpaid. Joe Burrow was not paid yet. So his confidence meter would be 98%. An injury is the only thing that would get in trouble. You know, like a big injury.
Starting point is 00:02:33 You can't play injury potential. Like, he's 100. All right. He's going to be the highest-paid quarterback, like, tomorrow or, like, in the next hour. All right. But that's what we're... So this, from now on, this will be what every GM in the NFL talks about, the Colin Coward Confidence Meter.
Starting point is 00:02:49 It's a raging success. We just figured it out. It's for yet unpaid quarterbacks. I forgot one. Anthony Richardson, who may or may not start one with a quarterback. Well, I don't... I don't know anything. So I would say Shane Stike.
Starting point is 00:03:03 51%. So he's over half because of Shane Steichen. I don't know. Stroud was like 40, right? No, no, Jordan Love. Desmond Ritter, I put it 40. I don't see any juice. I have, by the way, I have C.J. Stroud at like 51%. Because I know he's big enough and accurate enough. I think C.J. Stroud's going to make it. I just don't know if there's juice. I have Jordan Love. I hear, I've heard from a source. There's no juice. He's fine. There's no juice. So those guys are like 35.
Starting point is 00:03:32 35, 40. With Justin Fields, I get all sorts athletic juice. He's better athletically than I thought. He's a gamebreaker. I knew he was athletic, but it's like, wow. But he's not as comfortable in the pocket as I thought. Now, they've added weapons. So my guess is I put it at 57.5%.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Give me a preseason game where he lights it up. We're at 61. Then I'm fine. My guess is it's going to work. But it's 5 and 20 so far. What about a joint practice? CJ Stroud 18 for 18 and a joint practice. Okay. Then I'm at 55. There you go. This is very official. So the Big Ten is considering adding Washington, Oregon. I said it earlier, they should. There's dead weight all over these conferences. These guys are haves, not have-nots. So one of the things that's not being talked about a lot is that what you're really doing is adding, along with USC, UCLA, you're adding the Pacific time zone. Why does it matter? Because now from 10 a.m. Eastern to 1 a.m. 15 straight hours of
Starting point is 00:04:32 college football. The SEC can't give you that. The Big Ten's leg up. The advantage over the SEC is the Big Ten is now a national conference. West Coast, Midwest, Northeast. The SEC is a great regional conference. So as good as the games are, there's going to be cannibalism. You could watch Georgia, Texas. That's on at the same time as LSU, Oklahoma, could be on at the same time as Florida, Alabama. That's not the way it works. by adding these West Coast teams, the big noon game is Buckeyes Badgers. The 4 o'clock game is Michigan USC. The 7 p.m. game is Wisconsin or Penn State at Oregon.
Starting point is 00:05:20 And then the late game, 10 p.m. Eastern is UCLA and Washington. You could literally tear it so you have back-to-back West Coast games. and you're playing until one in the morning East Coast for recruits. You can start at noon and play all through the night. You're not going to do that in the SEC. So by adding these West Coast teams, it's a huge bi-coastal advantage over every other conference. Pack 12 doesn't have it. The ACC doesn't have it.
Starting point is 00:05:51 The SEC doesn't have it. The Big 12 doesn't have it. That's what is making the Big Ten a monster. you're going to be able to go Ohio State, Wisconsin, early, Washington, Oregon, late. That is fantastic. And in each those, gave you have eight, nine premier programs in the country, 16 hours, three time zones. So that's a huge advantage adding two more West Coast teams. You want to have more West Coast teams.
Starting point is 00:06:22 And not just tiny ones. Washington's won a national championship. Been to the playoff. USC seven national titles. Oregon's been to the playoff. UCLA, L.A. L.A. School, high-profile program, at least Denver West. So it's not a small deal.
Starting point is 00:06:38 You got dead weight all over these college football landscapes. Deadweight, middle, bottom. I mean, Nebraska's rebooting their coach. Rutgers, Maryland, the Illini, nothing against per don't, but give me a break. Right? So USC and UCLA, you add, because of USC's history in the market. Seattle's a major market. Oregon's got the Nike Phil Knight
Starting point is 00:07:02 Connection. So to me it all makes sense. I think it all works and it makes them a bi-coastal monster TV programming network. And this has always been a haves and a have-nots world. You've got to get over it.
Starting point is 00:07:18 People, everything else is independent films. You want as many Avengers and Mission Impossibles as you can have in your football conference. And the Big Ten's now going to get if they add this. Michigan's big boy football. Ohio State, Wisconsin, Penn State, USC, Washington's been to a playoff, Oregon. Those are big. I mean, UCLA is good, but that's a basketball school. Oregon's a football school. Washington's a football school. You can't
Starting point is 00:07:47 name a player for basketball for the Huskies. That is a football school. You can name their receiver. If you follow football, you know Michael Pennix Jr. the quarterback, they've got a couple of first round receivers. They got guys all over the NFL. So does Oregon. I think you make the move. But for the record, we went and looked. So JMAQ just had a story of the top 10 merchandise sales in the NFL players. So there were three cowboys in the top 10. That shows you the power of the brand. To show you continually the power of the brand, Kenny Pickett for the Steelers is 13th. What? Kenny Pickett,
Starting point is 00:08:28 Steeler quarterback, is significantly ahead of Justin Herbert for the Chargers at quarterback. He's also ahead of Jamar Chase, Devonte Adams, George Kiddell, O'Dell Beckham,
Starting point is 00:08:40 Christian McCaffrey, and A.J. Brown. So if you don't think the Packers have a massive brand, Jordan Love is ahead of Justin Herbert in merchandise sales. Kenny Pickett is significantly higher than Justin Herbert. And Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:08:59 And Lamar Jackson. How's that possible? Yeah, the highest Niner on this list is George Kiddell at 26. And I think J-Mack made a great point. They have such a star-studded lineup that Niner fans, some by Bosa, some by McCaffrey, some by Kiddle, some by Debo.
Starting point is 00:09:21 They're not selling a lot of quarterback jerseys. How about this? Jason Kelsey. Talk about a powerful brand. Jason Kelsey, a center is 17th on the list. A center for the Eagles. Well, it's the Kelsey Brothers. Yes. Super popular.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Super popular. But I mean, the fact that Kenny Pickett is 13th. And Jordan Love is 18th. And Justin Herbert is 20. But like, I don't see another offensive lineman anywhere, Colin. Kelsey at 17. That's powerful, man. There's no other offensive linemen top 50.
Starting point is 00:09:52 I mean, if you're going to buy an NFL, jersey, it's a skill position guy, somebody who scores touchdowns, throws touchdowns, or is like a defensive beast. You know, like Sauce Gardner on the list there of 42, Jets guy. How about that? Jets all over the list. Can he pick it at 13? By the way, do you own any NFL jerseys?
Starting point is 00:10:11 I'm not a jersey guy. Yeah. It's for some reason basketball jerseys have clout like when you wear them out there. It's like cool or whatever. It's generational. My generation didn't wear jerseys. I mean, if you wore a jersey in my generation. in my generation, you were a meatball.
Starting point is 00:10:25 But now guys, cool guys wear them. I mean, you see like hip-hop stars wearing them. It's like cool. Music videos have them. So jerseys now are much cooler than they've been. If you go back to my generation, no, Jersey guy was... Like Drake is on stage with LeBron's son's high school basketball team jersey, Sierra Canyon. No, it's very cool. Yeah, very cool. Very cool.
Starting point is 00:10:45 You see women wearing them, guys wearing them, hipsters wearing them. It's a whole different, you know, the companies like fanatics. They've made it cool. Like guys from the 70s. It's cultural. It's just in my generation, it was, it's almost like tats. When I grew up as a kid, if you had a tattoo, you served in the Navy. People had tats on there.
Starting point is 00:11:03 I mean, you could always tell. I grew up in a small town, you know, very middle class. You would see the guys that served in the armed forces. They would have a tattoo in their arm. Now the hipsters weren't. I mean, it's not just hipsters. I will say since moving to California, that's one of the biggest things I've noticed. Everybody has tattoos.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Everyone. And like East Coast, it wasn't nearly. You got two. Yeah, I have zero. I got one. My brother has zero. Most of my friends at zero. You're not real edgy. I'm on the edge. I'm not edgy? I had dinner last night at 9.15 p.m. I am living on the edge. That is. Yeah, I was like in bed. Yeah, watching stuff. Well, because I had to wake up at 5.30 a.m. to lift.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Power session. Lifting with a former high profile college football player. Big time. Like, I'm sore after two hours later. I'm going to start these 5.30 a.m. workouts. That's not edgy. That's kind of sad. bad. I was at a friend's restaurant at 915 knocking down. Living on the edge. With a cocktail. Cocktail and dinner at 915? Again. Wow.
Starting point is 00:12:06 You're looking at slash over here. I'm like Motley crew. This guy is... Basically, yes. Every weekend is a high adventure. Who do you got this weekend? Are you playing the six-man volleyball tournament? Oh, God, no.
Starting point is 00:12:17 You're probably doing it wearing a jersey. I'm not. I would be wearing a jersey. Hi, this is Jay Glazer. and you may know me for the world of football or fighting or even shows like HBO's ballers. What you don't know is for my entire life, I have lived in something I refer to as the gray, depression, anxiety. So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable,
Starting point is 00:12:37 a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer, where each week, while we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it. Give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:12:55 I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way,
Starting point is 00:13:07 this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.

Starting point is 00:13:55 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Listen to Superhuman on the eye heart. Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tript Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:14:46 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:15:05 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. learn the hard way.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the hard way and listen now. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at foxportsredio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. I think I'm going to rename my confidence chart.
Starting point is 00:15:48 I'm going to call it the yet. paid quarterback confidence chart. Our graphic department is working on it. You've not been paid. Joe Burrow hasn't been paid, but it'd be 100% because he's going to get paid. And I said, I put Justin Fields at about 57.5%. Jordan loved it about 40%. Desmond Ritter at about 40%.
Starting point is 00:16:05 And you brought up a name, and I think he's the hardest one to figure out in the league. Yeah, to a tongue of our lower. Yeah. The concussion changes everything. In terms of ability to distribute, play and be a leader, 80%. the concussion knocks it down to 50-50. If he has two more concussions, he's out of the league. If he has one more, he's out for six weeks.
Starting point is 00:16:28 He cannot have a second concussion. He's out. It's over. So again, I have to consider everything. Off field, health, on field. Like Justin Fields can get banged up. He's a big, strong athlete. Justin Herbert's a big, strong athlete.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Joe Burroughs bigger, stronger. In his case, smaller athlete, concussion issue. I told you this the other day. I couldn't pay him. Now, if he goes 17 games and they are as good as I think they could be, then I can restructure his deal. I'm not giving him the bag, but I can pay him. But two is the hardest guy.
Starting point is 00:17:02 That's why I can't figure out Miami. So we've talked about Miami a lot. And one thing we never really talk about is the offensive line. Is it better? Is it improved? We know they have Tyree Kill and he's talking about, you know, 2,000 yards receiving. We know they got Jailen Ramsey who's now hurt and Vic Fonji.
Starting point is 00:17:18 What about the offensive line? How is that, by the way? It's the weakness of the team. There you go. And you're in a vision with the Jets who dominate up front, with the bills who dominate up front, and the Patriots had a top five defense. It's an issue. I don't know what to do with Tua.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I mean, I don't have answers for everything here. Sometimes you don't have answers for everything? Sometimes the brain juice, it's tapped out. I watched Oppenheimer. You know what? Did you see Barbie solo, by the way? I know. I talked to my wife.
Starting point is 00:17:45 She goes, you're in your 50s. She can't go to Barbie by herself. A little creepy, cringy. That's what my wife said. Oh, yeah. Okay. She said, it's going to be a bunch of teenage girls. Why don't you, you know, wait till I go.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Very fair. So, you know, I thought about that, like the Taylor Swift concert, I'll be with my son and my wife and daughter. That's different section. But it'll be me and my son surrounded by like moms and daughters. That's right. Very appropriate. It is? Yeah, of course.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Yeah. Okay. Yeah. If my daughter went with me, I'd go. It's just kind of, you know. Your daughter. Would you go with your son? The one who's going to talk?
Starting point is 00:18:16 Yeah, sure. He'd think it'd be funny. It's a funny movie, so he likes to laugh. No, no, no, no. Taylor Swift, the concert. Oh, yes, absolutely. He thought it was great. You know, my kids like music. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:18:25 All right. I just said, my wife said, you're going to a Barbie movie in your 50s with a bunch of kids. Wait till I come. Oh, yeah, a date night. Yeah, that sounds exciting. All right, Chris Sims joins us.
Starting point is 00:18:37 He has to put up with his nonsense. Eight years in the NFL. Have you seen Oppenheimer, by the way? Have you seen it yet, Chris? No. want to see both, though, Colin. I want to see Oppenheimer. I do want to see Barbie. And yeah, I'll bring my son, my kids, whoever. But I mean, I hear great things about both of them. So it's on the to-do list. After this Hall of Fame weekend is over, hopefully next week I can go check them out in the theaters.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I said tonight, Chris, the only thing I care about for the Jets, I want to watch 25 snaps from Mackay Beckton. Aaron's 39. He's been sacked 530 times, hit 1,000. He is over getting hit. and he's never had a bad old line. I don't care about anything. If Bechton is a whiff, Dwayne Browns 38, 39, he's not playing 17 snaps. That's what I'm looking for tonight.
Starting point is 00:19:30 What are you looking for with the Jets Browns? Well, I think that's a good thought that you're talking about there, right? I mean, to piggyback off of what you're saying, this is an incredible roster the Jets have. It's really good, and you look at it, and the one question we have is, is that offensive line? Now, if it's healthy and, And the guys that you named and then you talk about their guys, Elijah Vera Tucker.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Yeah. They draft Tipman, the center in the second round, right? Lake and Tomlinson, they like Max Mitchell as a tackle as well to where that's the thing we question. And then also off of that, Colin, the one thing I've questioned about Rogers a little bit the last two years is his unwillingness to stand in the pocket and make some big throws down the football field. Yeah. So I'm with you and watching Mackay Beckton. I think the other thing that's interesting to me is, hey, it's the preseason. We're not going to see a lot of the stars and studs out there.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I want to see Zach Wilson and see if he's gotten a little more consistent with mechanics and decisions. And honestly, just see if he's learned something from Aaron Rogers about how to approach the position a little differently. You know, I said this with Jordan Love. When Joe Burrow, in his first camp, you started hearing things like reports from Cincinnati people, Russell Wilson's first camp. Mahomes, even with Alex Smith, you saw video leak out. Right. I'm three years into Jordan Love and I got more footage of the Locknest Monster.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I got nothing here. And I'm like, folks, you got to, there's got to be a moment. Shouldn't I be a little concerned three years, not a highlight, not a while highlights leaked? Listen, there's something to that. I mean, you're right. I mean, usually when you hear buzz and things like that, that it's real. It's coming from the players. Yeah, you get a little eye candy to go with it. Jordan Love, you know, first off, I think the one thing is, Colin, that you got to take into
Starting point is 00:21:21 account as he was up there practicing against the guy that is arguably the freakyest quarterback to, you know, to ever play as far as Aaron Rogers. So it was hard to out highlight him in practice or in drills or anything of that nature. He does have physical ability. You know, we'll see. He was put into a very tough situation. And last year, when he was, he was put into a very tough situation. And last year when he got in, you know, I think what he did against Philadelphia and a few of those other opportunities gave them the confidence to finally go, you know what, he can do this. We don't know at what type of level he can do it. And I certainly don't think they'll play the same style of football with him as they did with Aaron Rogers. But Green Bay is still a good football team.
Starting point is 00:22:01 I feel like people are forgetting about them. And honestly, you know, I hear what you're saying about the highlight, throws and all that. I'd like to see more out of training camp as well in that department. But I am interested in Green Bay. They're going to run the ball. You talked about their old line just a second ago when you were asking about Rogers and all that. The old line is still very good. The defense is talented and didn't play as good as it can last year.
Starting point is 00:22:23 But where I'm kind of excited for them is, yeah, they're probably relying on the run game, right? I just told you about Rogers has been a little too conservative for my liking the last few years. I could see Jordan Love in this offense being a little more aggressive and pushing the ball down the field, especially with Dobbs and Watson on the outside, who can really go and make some plays. So, hey, there's a lot we got to see. It's a big year for Jordan Love, you know, it might be his only year and his only chance to make this happen and solidify himself as a starter. So we'll see. But I think people are sleeping on Green Bay Packers a little bit for sure. I said earlier, alcohol and anger, when you're angry and when you've
Starting point is 00:23:01 had a couple pops, you're more willing to pull those honest comments out of the belly. a little bit that you would never use. But you've got a couple pops or you're really ticked off. You say things to your wife or a friend and you drive home and you think, what did I do? It's not a huge deal. But I don't like Trayvon Diggs leaning in to Dak Prescott's face. He didn't say it walking away.
Starting point is 00:23:28 He looked him in the eye. He leaned in and said, shut your blank, blank up. And I said, nobody is saying that to Burrell or Mahom. nobody is saying that to Lamar Jackson. I mean, I know it's not the end of the world. You're a former pro athlete. I love that. Am I overreacting?
Starting point is 00:23:49 Well, maybe a little bit. You know, I understand there's the respect factor and the awe factor and all that. You know, the fact that the camera was so close and we can actually hear the language and all that too. Yeah, it makes it a little more juicy and good for segments like this. I actually was just talking to Devin McCordy, right? The ex-patriots safety and legend for New England for so long. And I said the same thing to him. I said, I mean, I worked up in New England.
Starting point is 00:24:19 I saw Brady and people yelling at each other and practice from time to time. And he's like, yeah. He's like, all, you know, all is fair between the lines. It's competition. We'd have guys, Brady would talk to us. We'd talk to him, tell him to shut up. We're going to pick you off. Do all that, right?
Starting point is 00:24:33 So I do think it goes on maybe a little more than you think. think. And with NFL players, it is all in competition. It's training camp. You see them every day. You're in the locker room. You're in the training room. You're in the wait room. You go to the cafeteria. People get, you know, irritated easily this time of the year. And then I think that's what kind of happens. But I promise you, I would be shocked that after that practice, they didn't go in and people laugh. And there's probably some laughing going on about the videos out there and all that. I think there's great respect for Dak Prescott. There should be on that football team. team. He's got a big year. He didn't play well last year. They got a good football team,
Starting point is 00:25:11 one of the best in the NFC. We'll see where it goes. But I don't think you should be concerned. Long story short, Colin. Okay. So we talked about confidence meter with yet unpaid quarterbacks. And, you know, it's tongue in cheek. But I said, you know, with a Jordan love, I got three years. I had a source tell me there's not a lot of juice. I haven't seen highlights. I'm probably 40%, 60%, it doesn't work. Joe Burroughs yet unfurred. paid 100% is going to work. I would have said that. I would have said 90 to Jalen Hertz before he got
Starting point is 00:25:43 paid. I want to see one more year without Shane Steichen, but he'll be great. Same with Trevor Lawrence is like 90%. Right. And two, I think we'd both agree. He can't have two concussions or the career's over. The one that's really, really captivating is
Starting point is 00:25:59 Justin Fields. So he's better out of the pocket than I projected. He's less comfortable in the pocket. than I thought he would be. So I'm like, I'm somewhere close to 60, but he is 5 and 20. Where are you on Justin Fields making it the yet unpaid quarterback confidence meter for you? I'm probably lean kind of close to what you're saying here.
Starting point is 00:26:25 You know, he's the best running quarterback in football right now. I mean, he's special with the ball in his hand. That's for sure. But it's hard to win like that. As we saw, the best team in football last year had a. quarterback who ran. And honestly, you know, as good as Jalen Hertz is, like you just talked about, there's room to grow still throwing and doing things. Kansas City did things in that Super Bowl that they wouldn't do to Burrow or Josh Allen or Mahomes or they would have gave up 600 yards
Starting point is 00:26:53 passing, right? So there's room to grow there. And I think that's right where it goes with Justin Fields. It's just inconsistencies and throws where you go, man, you're too good of an athlete, you got too good of an arm to miss that throw or make that wrong. decision there or, you know, hang in the pocket too long and sit there and pat the ball. So that's where, you know, I'm with you and the fact that I love his raw talent, but playing the position, making the right decisions, the variety and throws, the control of the ball week in and week out, that still needs more, you know, polish. So I, that's, he's definitely one of the guys I got on my radar to check out closely throughout
Starting point is 00:27:37 the preseason to see if he's improved in those areas. Because they, you know, O-line improved, should be, right? You talk about their weapons, cold commetted tight end, pretty damn good. Chase Claypool, when his head's on straight and he's going, he's a freak of nature. DJ Moore would be a superstar if he wasn't stuck in Carolina the last few years. And of course, when Darnell Mooney gets back and healthy, they have some, they have some potential to be dangerous on that side of the ball. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:05 But I do think it comes down to Justin Fields and what you. you're saying, and his ability, again, you're not going to be able to run and make high-lake plays week in week out, especially against the better teams in football. It's going to be too hard to win that way. You're going to have to make some throws and plays in the pocket. And I think that's where we just got to see a level up and a little more consistency in that department for men. Chris Sims, NFL analyst, eight years in the NFL. It's great seeing you, my man.
Starting point is 00:28:31 You're the man, Colin Calhord. I appreciate it. Thanks for having me on, buddy. You bet. Yeah, the Tua thing is fascinating. because, you know, years ago, guys got concussions. Troy Aikman had a number of concussions. A couple other quarterbacks had a great number of concussions.
Starting point is 00:28:48 But there was sort of a, you know, rub during it, be tough, play through it, stuff. Those days are over. After the NFL had to write almost a billion dollar check, CTE stuff, those days are over. And so, and we just, there's so little we know about brain injuries, even experts. It's a little like COVID. Epidemiologists disagree. initially. Most didn't, but some did. It's the same with the brain injuries.
Starting point is 00:29:11 We just don't know a ton, so err on the side of caution. If Tua gets two concussions, it's over. And I think the odds of him getting one over the next year, considering the O-line for the dolphins is the weak spot, it's a 50-50
Starting point is 00:29:27 prop. That's why, by the way, he's put on weight and he's practicing getting sacked, which I think is super smart. But it's, you know, this league, last year, I don't have the exact number, but I believe it's around this. 55 quarterbacks played. The big guys get hurt. So, I mean, to me, Miami's in, that's why you cannot pay too early.
Starting point is 00:29:51 You've got to wait and see, can he get through it? Cross your fingers. And I don't even know with brain injuries, once you have a concussion, are you more prone to get one? I don't know the answer to that. I asked John Lynch, the Niners GM, friend, known him for years. worked at Fox. He was, along with Chuck Cecil, the hardest hitting safety for many years. John Lynch is like, I never had a concussion. I'm like, impossible. He never had a concussion.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Like some guys, are we just all more prone to it? If you get one, does it make the second, third easier? I don't know the answers to that stuff. So that's, two is a total wildcard. I do think, he reminds me a DAC, leadership skills, decency, grown up, maturity, A plus, plus. size is not ideal. Accuracy, pretty good. Pretty good. It shows the dolphins are a little nervous, too. They went out and signed Mike White,
Starting point is 00:30:43 who was a capable backup last year for the Jets. I don't know if he's a top backup in the league, but it shows they're nervous about the kid. The great thing for the dolphins is, you've got to know what you have and what you don't. That's why, if the Zach Wilson thing, move off it, it's a miss. Bechton, probably a miss. Move off it.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Like with the dolphins, they know next year if there's an injury to Tua. We're drafting a quarterback and we fix the O line. Everything else is fine. You have to know not. One of the things that's important in all businesses, know what you're not. Double down on the stuff you're good at. You have to acknowledge we're not good at this.
Starting point is 00:31:22 When I hear companies denying, well, you know, we're not that bad at it. Yeah, you are. Fix it. Zach Wilson, it's a miss. Trey Lance, it's a miss. Remember Tua also had a hip injury at Alabama. That was significant. That's another thing.
Starting point is 00:31:34 What, in the last like four years, he's had a lot of injuries. Yeah. So my guess is they don't extend him, but you can't sign it early. You've got to wait and see him, get through a season healthy. J-Mac with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:31:53 Go to Dak Prescott under major pressure this year, eighth year with the Cowboys coming off a career high 15 picks last year, which led the league. But with Mike McCarthy calling the plays, Jerry Jones says the Cowboys' new offense will be what's best for their quarterback. It's stack friendly. He's going to have the offensive line is going to be able to protect him better. Their spacing is narrower, which is conducive to protection.
Starting point is 00:32:19 He's going to have more opportunity to dump the ball off to the back. He's going to have less to do before the snap and less to read after the snap. When you combine it all, then I'm confident that we're going to be. excited about how it protects DAC and how it actually helps efficiency for DAC. That's weird to me. He's in the NFL seven years. Why do I have to? There's no Justin Herbert friendly offense or Joe Burrell friendly offense.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Does this mean that Kellyn Moore's offense was not DAC friendly? No, does it mean Kellyn Moore actually wanted to go with a quarterback with a higher ceiling that he didn't have to worry about protecting him? That sounds like, hey, we're going to take some things off his plate. We added too much to his plate. he's in the seventh year in the NFL. Andy Reed, the entire offseason, what has he said? We're adding more on Patrick Mahomes' plate. You have to.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Dallas is saying we're taking stuff off Dax plate. I don't like it. There's a lot of people high on the Cowboys, a lot of them, professional gambling. I literally agree. They like Dallas a lot, just to put it out there. So it's possible we're missing something. You know, Vegas thinks the Cleveland Browns. Their win totals higher than we look at them and we're like, we're missing.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Chris Felica, the bear here, chimed down. on our post yesterday we put on social that he thinks the Browns are a team we're both missing. So, you know, we do, maybe we have blind spots, maybe we're not seeing something, but I don't see it with Dak and Dad, I don't. Well, I mean, ask yourself this. Like, if somebody passes away in the family
Starting point is 00:33:50 and you have a will, the parents will often have an executor to the will, the kid that's the most grounded and can handle the will. The parents are sort of saying, listen, this is the grown-up kid, this is, You know, we got a fun kid.
Starting point is 00:34:05 We got to... It's like you make judgments taking stuff off people's plate and putting stuff on people's plate. The chiefs are saying, Andy Reid, we keep throwing stuff at Mahomes. Kellan Moore was brought in because the feeling was the previous offensive coordinator wasn't challenging Herbert.
Starting point is 00:34:29 They wanted to put more on Justin Herbert's plate, more on Mahomes' plate. The Cowboys are pulling back saying, we're taking stuff away. Tell me I'm not supposed to be concerned on that. All this points to McCarthy wanting to just slow it down, win with defense. Just, I can't get behind that.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Maybe they get hot. What's the over under on Dallas? I think it's nine and a half or is a ten and a half? Well, I would probably bet the under. Ten and a half I'd bet the under. Nine and a half I'd bet. I think they're a ten wins team. I mean, I think they won 11 last year,
Starting point is 00:34:59 and Cooper Rush started like five games, right? Yeah, four and one, yeah. Yeah. Anyways, let's move on. Alvin Kamara of my saints, because I like them this season, met with Roger Goodell yesterday to discuss his arrest from a 22 fight in Vegas. According to Ian Rappaport, the meeting with Goodell will go a long way determining the length of Kamara's punishment. Despite settling the case, the NFL can still suspend Kamara even if he doesn't face a criminal conviction. This is something I hadn't anticipated it would be a significant suspension. Well, my question is, what is he going to say to Goodell that would get, that Roger would go, okay, it's okay to beat people up? Well, I mean, again, somebody taunted me. So what?
Starting point is 00:35:43 Walk away. The video ain't great. I'm sure you've seen it. The case was settled. You got to, listen, if you're a star athlete, you've got to walk away from idiots. You just got to walk away from it. You don't see star quarterbacks. They're getting people pitching them crap.
Starting point is 00:36:00 You don't see them getting in fights. Mahomes is not getting in fights. So I'm what, I mean, Alvin Kamara could talk to me all day long. Don't get in fights at casinos. I just have no idea. What do we look at at it? One game, two, four. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:36:12 But the backups are Jamal Williams who led the league in touchdowns last year. Well, he's good. Jamal Williams is excellent. He's a good, like, goal to go running back inside the five. I like him. Kamara adds a second dimension to the offense. No, Camara is great. And then there are other two guys.
Starting point is 00:36:28 I follow college football. Kendrae Miller and Dway, I don't know who they are. Well, let's talk about the Goodell meeting. So he wants to go talk to Goodell so he can pull back on the suspension. What can he say to save face like? Don't get in fights in casinos. Don't hang out with idiots.
Starting point is 00:36:44 I mean, I'm not going to, if my son burned down my neighbor's house, there is nothing he could say for me not to ground him. Well, listen, the cigarette was in my hand. Don't smoke. You're 17. He can show up and appear repentant and wear a nice suit and look the part. be like Mr. Goodell, I messed up. You know, he's kissed the ring kind of deal. And maybe he gets one or two games instead of four.
Starting point is 00:37:08 I have no idea. The suspension stuff in the NFL's weird. We've talked about this for years. Well, I don't think. I have no idea what's going to be. I've never liked commissioners making the decision. I think you should have a four-person committee in kind of blind voting where I don't know what you do.
Starting point is 00:37:24 You'd have to do five. You'd have to do an odd number. Five or seven or nine people and you vote on the suspension. You're given options. Two-game suspension, four, six. And then it's a vote. Nobody knows what anybody else is doing. There's no influence.
Starting point is 00:37:40 I don't like a singular commissioner making the call. Commissioners are booed as it is. Get them out. There's certain things I don't want my president and commissioners doing. There's a reason we got a secretary of state, defense secretary. Not everything has to be on their plate. I don't want Roger Goodell making that call. I think it's a big whiff by the NFL.
Starting point is 00:37:58 I think it's a big whiff by... Now, if the commissioner, Adam Silver, has to take away a franchise from an owner, that's a big boy move. I don't need a committee. That's the commissioner. Donald Sterling, Adam Silver goes into Robert Sarbert. That's different. But there's, you got like 32 owners.
Starting point is 00:38:14 You talk about player punishment. Yeah, I don't want my commissioner. I want to have a five-person committee. I want an executive. I want a player. I want a coach. You know, like a retired coach, a retired player. I want like all sorts of eyes.
Starting point is 00:38:30 I want a woman on that. Woman in the executive, I want different sensibilities. I don't want one older guy making a call on a 23-year-old kid. I want somebody on that committee that is in their 20s, a young player that, you know, retires at 29. Put him on that commission. Because he can give you a sense of, hey, man, I've been there. I'm young.
Starting point is 00:38:50 I've gotten some fights. But I don't know what you could say for me to reduce it significantly. Maybe five games to four, but you can't get in fights as a pro athlete. Okay, is this his first one? Is this like just third or fourth? I don't remember Kamara getting a lot of altercations, unless I forgot them. I mean, four or five games for one altercation?
Starting point is 00:39:09 The more successful people are in life, the fewer places you can go to. I'm sorry, that's a punishment. Now, the good news is you can go to way cooler places of the average public. But if you're really, really famous, it is going to reduce the number of places you can go publicly. I'm sorry, but that's the way the game works.
Starting point is 00:39:29 And if you can't, there's not, Patrick Mahomes can't go to every bar in Kansas City. You know, there are places that Tom Brady could not go in the Northeast. There's certain clubs, there's certain places. You've got to stay out of. Final story. Dalvin Cook and the Jets has been rumored for about a week now after he visited the team over the weekend. Aaron Rogers recently said he took his pay cut so the team could bring in available veterans. And Rogers was asked about adding the free agent running back.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Here it is. His ability, he was able to always. impact the game. Tough guy, but also elusive, good one-cut guy, speed, power, good out of the backfield. I love the guys that we got.
Starting point is 00:40:11 I think there's a lot of talent there, a lot of opportunity. But anytime you can add a veteran player, you'd be excited about that for sure. Aaron likes his veteran players. Delvin Cook liked that. Look at that tweet.
Starting point is 00:40:30 You're all worked up over this? I just don't see why he's not there yet. Doesn't make sense to him. Like, he visited over the weekend. Let's find a negotiation where it fits both parties. Mikhail Beckton plays tonight and gives up four sacks. Why don't you get a tackle?
Starting point is 00:40:46 Great. Where are they? Show me the tackles on the market. You act like there's good guys sitting out there. If they were, the Jets would have them over. Okay, let me ask you. Arizona starts 0 and 5, Tampa starts 1 and 6. Go get a tackle.
Starting point is 00:40:58 Don't gobble up any money. Well, Arizona's offensive line is putrid. But, yes, Tampa has some guys. I don't think they're going to give them away for cheap. Well, I'm not saying that. And they're going to want picks. Dalvin Cook's not cheap. I'm not spending a nickel on a running back.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Breece Hall's excellent. Michael Carter's an excellent backup running back. Those are good backs. There's no way I'm going to spend. I am keeping some, I'm keeping some powder. Yes, keep it dry. I agree. You're not giving all of it to Error, Dalvin Cook.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I want to go get a legitimate tackle. Somebody out, if Mikhail Beckton, my lead tomorrow, if he gives up a sack. Oh, yeah, there's your lead. Come on, man. I have a new young offensive tackle yet unpaid confidence meter. We'll debut that tomorrow. Yeah, by the way, they're all over. Offensive tackles, one of the prime positions in the league.
Starting point is 00:41:43 They're just sitting out there just waiting to be gone. I'm not getting Trent Williams. Give me somebody that's not a whiff. I'm not asking for the best. Well, the problem is it's not like they have a first to give up because of the Rogers. I'm not giving up a, I'm not looking for a first round tackle. I'm saying if Beckton's a whiff. Well, I'm saying you're mentioning Trent Williams, Worf's on Tampa.
Starting point is 00:42:01 Okay. So you want their second tier guys? Yeah. Well, I want a starter. If Bechton's giving up sacks in the Hall of Fame game, I've got to go get a starter. There's a lot of pressure tonight. Settle down. Okay. It's Zach Wilson against the Cleveland Brown's backup. Some people can sense urgency better than others. Oh, geez. Here comes some Jets fans to the set. About time. About time we get some balance out here. Listen to these guys. They got the overrunner at 14.

Starting point is 00:45:50 take to start next hour. I'm not even going to give it away. Something just hit me. I can't believe but didn't think of this. So earlier, I was taking naps. I take a nap every day. My naps were getting too long. I was taking hour naps. And I'm like, I can't do this. So I want and get a testosterone shot Monday.
Starting point is 00:46:07 Holy, I haven't napped in four days. I'm out there like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the weight room, tossing around iron. It's unbelievable. I got one shot in the butt. Total game changer. My workouts now, I'm flying. I don't take naps.
Starting point is 00:46:22 I'm throwing stuff around the house. I'm moving sofas by myself. Did someone advise you? Like, hey, this is what you do? Yes, I called somebody. I said, my naps are too long. And I'm exhausted after I do. And he's like, well, you talk for three hours.
Starting point is 00:46:35 And I said, yeah, I've been doing that forever. I'm used to that. He said, you know, take some HGH. Everybody in Hollywood's on HGH, by the way. Nobody is as cut as these 50-year-old married actors. They're all in HGH. And so I said, I don't want to do HGH, but I'll do testosterone. And just go get a shot twice a week.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Maybe I should start a cycle. of HGHH. Well, you're already too amped up. Slow down. Oh, so less. Less. Okay. Yeah, you need to scale back. You need to have some soy milk. I would just eat guzzle soy milk. So, okay. Yeah, that's, I don't know what that is. I would just, leaders of soy milk bring you off. I'm going to go into testosterone shots, maybe every other day and just, I'm literally moving furniture. It's incredible. Are you seeing, maybe now you can start become a jersey guy. You can start wearing NBA jerseys. Now that you're getting these testosterone.
Starting point is 00:47:24 and moving sofas by yourself. No, you know, there are certain things that I'm not judgmental. Adam Sandler movies are not made for me. Yeah. But I totally understand their value and I think he's super talented.
Starting point is 00:47:41 I've said this. Barstool Sports isn't built for me. It's a great brand. It's not built for me. For younger guys. Saturdays for the boys. It's a great brand. It's not built for me. Adam Sandler movies aren't built for me. but it can be, I'm not a jersey guy.
Starting point is 00:47:57 But if you go to fanatics, they've done a great job to make it culturally really cool for young and old. I never thought jerseys were cool 30 years ago. Now I think I totally get it. You got these guys all over the stage, men, women wearing them. They're like, cool. And now that I'm on, now that I'm taking high-level cattle steroids, this gun show, a couple of Alaska pipelines right here, I could be two weeks away from wearing a jersey on the set. Wow.
Starting point is 00:48:25 To whole new me. But I'll tell you this, I stare at the ceiling. You know, that's going to open up a new audience. I think we're like 98% guys. I've never been noticed by a female ever from this show. So maybe the females will start tuning in if you wear jerseys on the show. That is funny. It's possible.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Yeah, I don't get a lot of that either. No, yeah. Love your football picks. Thanks, Sally. I don't get a lot of that. That's not happening. All right. Joel Klat's stopping by, final hour of the show in a Thursday, Big Ten expansion.
