We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on
our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.
And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again,
I was harmed. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven,
Marquis keep coming to. He's like, you know I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just
playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the I Heart

Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akela Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority of Black City,
in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.

now we have a college football playoff at 12 teams we didn't like when the computers did it we
didn't like when the media selected it we don't like the rando arbitrary committee doing it but at least
a playoff will be great when we figure out who's in and who's out right now Notre Dame's in
Miami and Texas are out um just head-to-head matter in Oklahoma got thumped by Texas A&M got
thumped by Texas Vandy got thumped by Texas.
Texas was willing to play Ohio State and Columbus, lost close.
They didn't get in.
And I mean, Texas plays in the SEC where, you know, I always hear about bad losses.
Miami lost to SMU.
SMU beat Clemson and Miami.
They're not that bad.
They're 8 and 4.
They went to the playoff last year.
The game was in Dallas.
They're not that bad.
So the Louisville loss stunk.
And for Texas, I guess the Florida loss is bad.
But, man, Texas had a lot of quality wins.
I just, you know, I'm somebody that I look at your schedule and give me quality wins.
I don't think bad losses should be the be-all end all.
The Rams just lost to the Panthers.
I just think we've asked college kids now to play more and more and more and more games.
You're going to have a stinker.
Rams defense last week slunk, and we know they're great.
and Miami
Texas went and played an
SEC team in Gainesville and got
beat. Remember last
year, Lane Kiffa took a good team
to Gainesville and lost.
I losing it in Gainesville's to me
it's an SEC team. It's 90,000
people. It's allowed a stadium collegially
I've ever been to. With that
Joel Kladd who called Ohio State
Michigan,
he'll be calling Ohio State Indiana. He's getting
some good games.
So
I guess this is, we both love the sport.
I guess where I feel bad.
So Miami's going, we beat them head to head.
And Texas is going, we beat three top 10 teams.
And the committee's like, well, Notre Dame didn't really have a quality win, but they had no bad losses.
I don't know if that's how we should measure greatness.
I like Notre Dame as a program.
shouldn't doesn't Miami have a real case here of course of course of course Miami has a real case and
Texas has a real case and there's so many ways to go let me let me just start with like the problem
is obviously the format obviously right because we're trying to have this selection based playoff
and it doesn't matter if you have computers do it or people do it like it's subjective and there's no
way that you can rank the criteria or at least they don't rank the criteria and tell us which one
is going to take precedent over the other. So there's all different types of criteria. You can take
a head-to-head criteria or a resume criteria, the I-test criteria. Did you get to a conference championship
game? What did your schedule look like in particular in the non-conference? And yet, we don't rank
those. So what value does any of those criteria actually have towards the ranking? Well, we don't know.
And I think that's the arbitrary nature of it is what's frustrating.
I've argued for a long time that we need to define the path.
You see, like for instance, in every other sport, always and forever,
what do we do to break tiebreakers, Colin?
The first one is head to head.
Always, always.
And so here's the thing with Notre Dame.
I don't think they're just in.
I know that they're not going to play another game,
and Miami is not going to play another game,
but they have this buffer that is BYU.
And so if you actually play this out, I think Notre Dame is actually more likely to miss the
playoff than make the playoff. And here's why. If BYU wins in the Big 12 championship game and
beats Texas Tech, they get an automatic spot and there's almost no scenario where Tech falls
behind Notre Dame. Therefore, Notre Dame would fall out. Now, if BYU loses to Texas Tech,
maybe similar fashion to the way they lost already this year when they played Tech, 29 to 7, it was a
dominant victory for the Red Raiders.
Wouldn't BYU almost assuredly just fall maybe one spot or two spots in the rankings
behind Miami, which then would promote a direct comparison with what we're talking about.
Two teams right next to each other, same record with a head-to-head result.
So I think Notre Dame is actually in a really precarious spot right now.
Listen, you know me.
I like big brands.
I want Notre Dame and Miami and Texas all in.
Right?
Like that's what I'm rooting for.
I think Texas is cooked.
I don't see a way they get in.
I know, but it's unbelievable.
Beat Oklahoma like a drum.
Dominated bandy, dominated, and they lose to Ohio State by seven.
From that point forward, Ohio State won by an average of 31.
That the only team that played a super close game in Columbus,
four new offensive linemen,
and you're like, best college defense,
probably either one of us has seen in half a decade,
and they lose by a touchdown,
and Texas didn't play well, and you're like,
I don't know.
Listen, they don't match out with Georgia.
They just don't.
That happens.
They don't match up with Georgia.
Let me ask you this.
Indiana scheduled a week at a conference schedule.
Right now, they'd have a buy.
What if Indiana gets smoked?
What if it is 38, 17, and it looks like the Indiana Notre Dame game last year?
What if Indiana gets smoked?
What happens to them?
I don't think they fall out of by territory, and the reason is that Oregon will act as a buffer.
Remember, they beat Oregon.
So, like, Oregon is their floor.
So even if they fall down with what they've done this year, they're probably still going to remain in the top four.
Even if they were against them.
Now, I don't think they'll get smoked.
I think that's a very good and complete team.
Now, did they play a soft non-conference?
There's no doubt that they played a soft non-conference.
But I don't see a situation where either the loser of the Big Ten championship game, Ohio State or Indiana,
falls out of a position where they're getting a buy in the first round of the college football playoff.
Okay, what if, what if, okay, Bama went to Georgia.
It's one of the, I mean, honestly, one of the most perfect game plans I've ever seen.
They beat Georgia in Athens.
They were flawless.
It was one of the best halves of football played by anybody this year.
What if Georgia beats them?
And by the way, Georgia and Kirby Smart don't beat Alabama much.
You talk about a matchup.
Georgia doesn't beat Bama, Texas doesn't beat Georgia.
What if Bama gets smacked?
Can they get knocked out?
I think possibly, although the history and the precedent from the committee last year
was that they weren't going to penalize teams for losing conference championship games.
And we saw that when SMU lost to Clemson.
You remember, and Clemson got the automatic birth,
but then SMU stayed in the college football playoff.
They went to Penn State and lost in the first round.
So precedent would tell you that this committee is going to value conference championship games
and not knock a team for losing that.
Now, let me just say this sake of argument.
Let's just pull ourselves out 30,000 foot view for a moment
because that would suggest that this committee is trying to protect
or value conference championship games.
And I would make the argument that in college football
for the last 10 and 20 years,
we have done a really poor job of trying to protect and value
things that are obviously going to die,
like amateurism and bowl games, for example.
These are things that obviously don't fit in what's going to happen in the future of our sport.
And the fact that they didn't move off of amateurism early led to the chaos that we have now with the transfer portal and the revenue share.
The fact that they won't move off of bowl games gives us a regular season and then playoff that leaks into the NFL playoffs that leaks into the transfer portal late into January.
So we're not nimble in college football.
And if you protect the conference championship game, the writing is on the wall, Colin.
These games are being devalued.
There's no reason to protect those.
So if BAM were to get smacked,
I could see a situation where,
depending on what happens in the BYU, Texas Tech game,
they get in, maybe Miami gets in,
and maybe they take another look at Texas in that regard.
But I do think that we need to start
putting the right value in the right spots.
I think that we need to start talking about defining the path
to the playoff rather than having a selection-based committee playoff.
These things would be better for the right.
the sport. Not to get too long-winded, but just for an example, just for an example.
Imagine this weekend if we had a play-in weekend, and this didn't live in a committee room,
but it lived on the field, where we had, based on where you finished in your conference,
automatic bursts per conference, maybe four each for the big guys, SEC and Big Ten, maybe two each
for the ACC and the Big 12. And then you would get matchups this weekend, Colin, like Texas at Texas
A&M, winner goes to the playoff. BYU, Utah, winner goes to the playoff.
Nami Duke, winner goes to the playoff.
So we would be able to say,
hey, listen, rather than just sitting there and watching your TV
and seeing if a committee puts you in,
you control your own fate.
Go play a football game for 60 minutes.
And if you can win that game,
then you're going to go on into a 14-team playoff.
That's what I would do.
Yeah.
But no one's making me commissioner yet.
If you've got that power, please do so.
If I was commissioner, I would say head-to-head one,
quality wins two.
That to me should be,
clarity would be pretty easy i mean texas would be in
nother dame would not be like head-to-head matters quality because i want better scheduling i
would take it away from at large i just don't i don't like this idea that we're just like
selecting teams now even if you define the criteria and valued them as you're saying in a particular
order that would help that would certainly help i would just rather put it on the field
i would rather have a play in weekend a play in weekend with 14 teams would create more
value at the top because there would only be two buys. So you're really creating a top end
incentive for those teams to play hard late into the season, the best teams in the country,
and more access and control at the bottom. You know, that's what I would do.
Okay, I got three things that. I'm going to get to Penn State, Lane Kiffin, before I do that,
I can see Ryan Day wants to win every game. But the conference championship for like Ohio
State means nothing. I don't want guys hurt. My takeaway is, and I also am going to have to play
somebody. I don't want them seeing, you know, I want them to have to go back eight games to find
some of my tricks. I could see Ohio State saying, you know, any player that's kind of banged up,
you're not playing. And kind of doing a vanilla playbook and then they lose. Because if I'm,
the bottom line is if I beat Michigan and win a Natty, nobody gives a rip about Indiana. You beat
Michigan, you win a Natty. So I guess my question is, is it possible? We're going to get a really
flat, uninspired Buckeye team this weekend? I don't think so because they've been business like
the entire year. It didn't matter if we saw them at, you know, I saw them play Rutgers, I saw them play
Illinois, and they were the same every single week. And I feel like we're going to get the same
business-like approach from the Buckeyes. Let's also keep in mind, this is a program. None of these
players have won a Big Ten title. This is not like old hat for Ohio State. We might feel like that
because we've seen Ohio State of recent vintage, but this program hasn't won a Big Ten
since 2020. They're going to want to go out there and put their best foot forward.
There's also more on the line when you think about the Heisman trophy.
Julian Sanin's going to have to play well in order to win the game in order to win the
Heisman trophy. So I still think that there's a lot on the line. The number one seat overall in
the playoff is going to be beneficial. You'd rather play the number four team in the country
in the semifinal than the number two or three team in the semifinal. So all of those things,
I think, will be incentive for them to go put their best foot forward.
Okay. Let's get to Kiffin. Listen.
I've said, don't marry the rock star, and be shocked when he says, I got to go on tour for a couple of months.
Ole Miss would have signed up for where they're at today five years ago.
Sure.
Number one offense in the country, 11 wins, but he's going to burn you on the way out.
Ole Miss would have signed up for that.
So I don't have, when you go into business or you go into a relationship, as long as you get full disclosure, and there was on Lane Kiffin,
I don't have a lot of sympathy for Ole Miss.
They benefited just like everybody that hires Lane does.
Your offense gets better.
You get talked about.
There's controversy and social media.
I guess the whole thing doesn't bother me as much as it probably bothers everybody else.
Does it bother you?
Well, I just, everything that you said is correct.
Nothing you said is wrong there.
Yeah, I mean, he's got the five messiest exits in maybe football history.
I mean, think about it.
Al Davis with the overhead projector.
You got the Tennessee debacle.
who's left on the tarmac at USC, Saban told him to kick rocks before the national championship game and now here at Ole Miss.
So everything that you're saying, yes, if you're Ole Miss, again, Ole Miss, the program, the administration, I'm sure that this is kind of like, yeah, maybe this was always in the cards or certainly we could expect this.
But I think of it not from the Ole Miss perspective, and I think of it from the players perspective.
If you're one of those players and you're sitting in the meetings in August and early September
and they're talking about team first and committing and let's go achieve something and here are our team goals,
well, he just left that team and they are going to field spurred.
And trust me, like you're seeing articles out there where some of these players are pushing back on this narrative that Lane, you know,
wanted to coach and they wanted him to coach.
And they're like, no, you know, we feel pretty betrayed by Lane Kiffin.
And rightly so, listen, I don't put it.
begrudge this man his movement and he's going to go and he thought ls u was going to be a better opportunity
for he and his family you know more power to him but that doesn't mean that there are are not consequences
to those decisions and and he did leave a team high and dry and he left those players high and dry
that's going to hurt his credibility moving forward and he also went to a place that let's face it
is not as as sound foundationally they might have more resources but it's certainly a lot more
crazy at LSU. It's like, listen, you know, you can go with a six to prom and that six is
going to be committed to you. You take the nine, she might be crazy. All right. That's a good way
to put it. Okay, you and I did not like Penn State. They did not like, you and I didn't like
Penn State abruptly canning James Franklin. Well, now what's happened is the power brokers
who run this sport, the agents are freezing out Penn State.
And they have like the recruiting class.
I'm surprised they haven't called me.
They're not recruiting anybody.
Like Montana is going to have a better recruiting class today than Penn State.
So I, what do you think happens?
Yeah.
It's a good job.
It's a good job.
But unfortunately for them and I know the people involved, it has been mismanaged.
I think that they had a plan when they fired James Franklin.
And I think that that plan involved Kurt Signetti.
and Kurt Signetti was like, nope, that ain't my bag.
And once that happened, then they were behind the eight ball,
and now they've gotten passed up by these other programs.
So I think, here's the thing.
I think that Penn State went after Kalani Sataki pretty hard,
and Crumble Cookie came in and said,
our cookies are delicious and they're making a lot of money, and no.
And if you don't know that,
the Crumble Cookie guy is a BYU guy,
and he came in with a lot of it.
It's a big meme, and it's fantastic.
So now I think that there's,
probably a couple of guys that they're still in talks with and trying to get. I think Brian
Dayball is still in play. I think Jeff Brom at Louisville is still in play. And the fact that it
hasn't happened yet, and today, by the way, is National Signing Day, early signing day. Players can,
recruits can sign to your school today. And Penn State doesn't have a coach, which is wild.
It speaks to the possible mismanagement of what's gone on, or at least it's going off the rails.
And they don't have a coach, which also leads me to believe that something is up their sleeve.
Colin, I think that they are targeting a coach that is still playing this week.
And if you just go process of elimination, this is not information that I've heard from anybody.
If process of elimination, you think, well, Kirby's not going anywhere.
Sataki told him no.
Joey McGuire's not going anywhere.
Both guys in the American at Tulane and North Texas, Sumerall and Eric Morris, they already have a place to go.
Is it Tony Elliott at Virginia, possibly?
Mani Diaz at Duke, possibly.
or is it Kalyn DeBoer at Alabama?
I think that they might be going after a guy that is coaching this week,
which is why it's bleeding into the signing day.
Kalin DeBore, by the way, is a Midwest guy.
Isn't he?
Got his start in South Dakota.
How about that?
Again, I haven't, no one's told me that officially,
but if you just play that out,
like why do you not have a coach yet?
he's got to still be coaching.
That's a pretty good closer right there.
You just went Mariano Rivera on us.
That was a pretty good clothes right there.
Cut her in on the hands.
Just,
okay, well, I'm going to enjoy the games.
You have Indiana, Ohio State.
I like Ohio State.
Man, you're getting good games.
Love it.
Did you get a job promotion here at the company?
They're giving you good games.
No, no.
They said that I've been doing a good job on these hits.
So this is, it's reward for doing a good job here.
Joe Clack, good seeing you.
See you, brother.
That's interesting.
I think Kailen DeBoer is unbelievable.
I really do.
I think Bama's, you know, everybody's banging on,
he's not coaching the Saban Bama teams.
You understand Saban left Bama, right?
You think it's because of age, but you watch Sabin on TV.
He's still funny as ever.
Energy's unbelievable.
Why'd Saban get out?
I said this about four years ago.
ago. He played Sark. When the NIL started about four years ago, whatever it was, he played Sark,
and Sark had all that Texas money. And SABIT's no dummy. Remember he started complaining publicly?
He looked at A&M and the Longhorns. That's Texas money. I mean, Texas is the Bentley.
Alabama money is a glove compartment in a Kia. You're talking Texas money.
Sabin played Texas and went, I got no interest.
going toe to toe with the Aggies and the Longhorn's bags of money.
So Sabin's like exit stage right.
Kalin DeBoard takes it.
Everybody's like, well, he's not as good.
He doesn't have the players.
When you watch Bama play Georgia this weekend, Georgia's got more good players.
If Ohio State played Bama, Ohio State's got much better players.
I think Texas has better players.
And I think Greg Byrne the AD hired the right guy.
but, you know, it's really unfair to say, well, I mean, this guy's an unbelievable coach.
I just root for great coaching.
That guy's a great coach.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news.
What's the news, name? Huge news. We've created our own podcast.
called Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to our...
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how did we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
And we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band.
Before Jonas Brothers was...
This is how you guys remember it going to be.
down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the
podcast, where people could call in and say, hey Jonas, and then I wrote down on my little
notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for
remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you
get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us every.
everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45. How hard can it be?
How hard can it be? Getting naked at 50 with a new guy.
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it,
unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.

This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us.
The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country.
From IHeart Podcasts, Saigon.
Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman.
You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam?
I should stop talking so much.
I like hearing you talk.
One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America apart.
This is for Vietnam.
I've taken a hit from Japanese ground fire.
They're pouring petrol all over him.
He's holding matches.
I'm on a landmine.
For free time.
Let's get out.
Freedom from Vietnam.

This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest.
Sorry, our first ever human guest.
I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous.
That's right. The very funny, Will Farrell, joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to the many
crimes committed by people also
named Will Farrell.
They called to his fellow officer for the nippers.
What are the nippers?
Very good question. No, I was thinking,
would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple
assault. And it's a play on word, salt?
Maybe not. I say
we invest and we see. There's only one way
to know. This did not amuse the cops.
By the way, normally the cops
are amused, but this did not
abuse the cops.
Will even comes clean about
some of his own crimes.
I didn't get caught.
You know why?

I'm telling you, that Cowboys Lions game,
Jerry Jones has had a great last nine months
from April 24th when the draft started until today.
Tyler Booker, 12-pick first round,
looks like a tremendous interior offensive line
the Micah trade, the Quinn and Williams move, acquisition in the Micah trade, a Kenny Clark,
now DeMarvian overshone is healthy.
You know Dallas right now it's number two in the NFL in pressures?
They're better without Micah.
For everybody that said, oh, Dallas, crazy, they rushed the passer better than they did previously.
Why?
Because their run defense is better, forcing teams to have to throw on third and five plus yards,
obvious passing down. So you can pin your ears back. Micah was not good against the run.
He's bad against the run. So I love Micah to Green Bay, but I loved
Micah and Dallas getting leverage and flexibility moving on. So you say what you want. Jerry Jones
had a great nine months. Still got two first round picks. The Quinn and Williams move has transformed
the defense, getting Kenny Clark. Yeah, when Michael was there, and this is before they paid
him the big money, the run defense was atrocious. The overall defense was bad. You could have
issues. Like you can, the Rams won a Super Bowl without good
safeties. You can have issues on the back end of your defense because remember,
December and January football, Miami Dolphins had Waddle and Tyree Kill. How'd they do in December
and January? What you can't have is a bad run game. Dallas last couple of years
with Micah was bad against the run. And so by getting Quinn and Williams and Kenny Clark,
They're great against the run, forcing teams to now have to pass on Dallas's terms, not their terms.
So it's okay.
Not every divorce is one-sided.
Sometimes both people do really, really well.
Green Bay upgraded, Dallas upgraded, much more flexibility.
And we haven't even seen their two picks yet.
I keep thinking they're getting an edge rusher.
They're getting quarterback in the pressure now.
just draft a bunch of Ohio State guys.
That's my remedy to fix your defense.
Go take a couple of Buckeyes.
J. Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, we're going to your bears.
They're in your backyard.
You love you some Ben Johnson.
Remember, when he got the Bears head coaching job, Colin,
he was talking a little bit of smack,
said he kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year
while running the offense for the Lions.
Well, Ben Johnson, hey, don't let your mouth write checks
at your butt can't cash, Colin.
Big one this weekend.
Ben Johnson's Bears against Lefleur's defense.
Here's Johnson talking about the matchup.
They're all over the field,
and so we've got a tall task here at hand.
And then when you combine it with the scheme,
I think Halfley does a great job of making it simple for them,
and yet to the offense, it can seem fairly complex,
and those guys just go out and they play really, really fast.
And that's what shows up all over the tape.
By the way, he didn't compliment the offense.
He's an offensive guy.
He gave all the love to the defense.
Yeah.
So are you still surprised that this is six and a half this line?
One of my bets of the week is a very close game.
I think Green Bay at home probably wins, but six and a half points.
So it is interesting.
Sometimes the Packers, they've had a couple letdowns.
Remember that Panthers game?
It's like, what's going on with these guys?
Cleveland games.
Yeah, what are Cleveland and the Panthers?
Not good football teams.
I know the Panthers are 7 and 6, but you know what I'm talking about.
When they play the cream of the crop, Packers rise up.
I'm very curious.
Listen, we know what the Bears want to do.
They want to run the football and get a lead, right?
You can be able to do that against this Packers defense?
Look at the numbers here, Colin.
They don't give up anything.
Micah Parsons, probably second best defensive player.
What's your best game?
What's your best bet on the board this week?
I can't give that out on a Wednesday.
Come on, dog.
You've got to wait for it.
I will say I'm on the opposite side of you here.
I did bet the Packers, six and a half.
And they're a great teaser leg, you know, a six-point teaser.
But I think the Packers hand, a little truth serum to your boys.
Oh, yeah, that's what I heard in Philadelphia.
That was going to be true serum.
I didn't say that.
We keep drinking the serum and we don't get sick.
All right, let's move on to college football and the Old Miss saga.
How about this one?
So offensive coordinator, Charlie Weiss Jr.
he left Old Miss with Lane to go to LSU,
but he is going to call plays for Ole Miss
during the college football playoffs.
Obviously, they wanted to hold Ole Miss made some concessions.
They want to make sure they host a first round game.
You know, they didn't want any of that FSU stuff
that happened a couple years ago to happen to Old Miss.
I don't have a huge problem with this, Colin,
but if you notice yesterday on social media,
some Ole Miss players were criticizing Lane's comments.
Like, bro, that's not what you told us in the locker room.
and now the old miss AD is coming out and saying,
and this just is breaking now,
hey, guys,
Lane knew he wasn't going to coach these guys in the playoffs.
So what he's talking about now is lies, basically.
And I just wonder,
what are the players going to think when the OC leaves
what's coming back to call plays?
Isn't there still a disconnect?
Like, dude, you left us.
Yeah, I don't like it.
I don't like it at all.
I would just, listen,
the breakup felt gross to begin with,
but it's Lane's history, I would not go back to coach.
These people were at an airport screaming...
Carrying their babies and screaming expletives at Lane Kiffin.
Can you ever imagine, if I said to you in your life at some point,
for any reason whatsoever, you drive to a private airport to flip people off and scream at them.
Is there anything that could get you there?
I mean, maybe if you fired me from this job and I, you know, my family was penniless,
You know, I'm just,
I'm just,
I'm, first of all,
I don't go to private airport.
Second of all,
I don't have that power.
I'm in,
a row 28 on Southwest.
Oh, yeah,
that's right,
economy, I forgot.
But in all honesty,
think about Charlie Weiss,
you're walking back into the locker room.
I think it's weird.
And everybody's looking at him,
like you ditched us.
I don't like it at all.
So,
I don't know how you're handicapping this,
but all I know is if I'm a top four seed,
I want to see Old Miss
in my first round game.
I think that's like easy dub
for whoever,
Ole Miss,
you want that seat.
I think it's the three.
I totally agree.
I thought that last night.
I'm like, I want to play Ole Miss.
Yeah.
Assuming they get by their first matchup.
All right, final story, Kyle.
Let's go to the Eagles.
You know, I pressed my guy Martin here.
Like, what's the real story with the Eagles?
I don't want to hear this.
Well, the offensive line stinks.
They were great last year.
Sequin Barkley got slow.
It's more than that.
Like you said, they lead the league in three and outs.
They've blown two fourth quarter leads at home.
It's very bizarre.
They got blown out by the G-Men.
Okay?
Nick Siriani is searching for answers
and this is his best bet as to
what the hell is going on.
Of course, none of us are
doing a good enough
job right now. We all have to
look internally and get better
and that doesn't, that when I say that
hopefully you guys always understand
that I'm looking at myself
very first and I'm looking
at the coaches to do the same thing and obviously
the players to do the same thing.
Yeah.
I mean, I know nobody wants to hear this, but Super Bowl hangover is a thing, Colin.
Yeah.
It's real.
I mean, it didn't really happen on the Chiefs every year.
They had Mahomes who was young and Reed.
But I look at this Eagles team, and they look like they're going through the motions, if that makes sense?
Well, I think the thing with me, it's another, I'll give you two teams this year.
The San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and the Eagles offensive coordinator are proving.
it's not just about players.
We always think this league is about
quarterbacks and head coaches.
Coordinators, there's a reason they make seven figures.
The Eagles' talent on offense is remarkable.
The Niners' talent on defense is bottom 10 right now.
Great coordinators change outcomes.
That's why I said Robert Sala has to be the assistant of the year in the NFL.
Yeah, that's not a bad, I mean,
Yeah. Now, I don't know where you go with that.
Like, does he get interviews instantly?
Oh, absolutely.
He coached to Jets five minutes ago.
I would hire Sala in one minute.
I'd hire Brian Dable.
Yeah.
But I will just say about the egos, Colin.
They had a weird thing.
Did you see Jihad Campbell?
I'm probably butchering his name.
The rookie had an awesome start to the season.
And then the linebacker Nukobi Dean comes back,
takes his job.
Campbell didn't have one defensive snap.
And I'm like, what's that about?
And then they got run over.
Dean's more of an edge rusher. Campbell's a tough linebacker.
I just don't know what's going on in that with the coaches, the O.C.
I know his house got egged.
I'm sure you saw by some unruly Eagles fans who have no life Thanksgiving weekend to go egg a coordinator's house.
Like things are just wacky in Philly.
Yeah, they are.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
Judge Cowherd.
The Honorable Judge Cowherd.
How Hurd will deliver his herdics on quarterbacks in this league.
Young quarterbacks.
Next, we're live in Chicago.
It's The Hurd.

Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
We have some big news.
What's the news, huge news?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
But this one's extra special.
So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys?
I honestly don't remember.
I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
This is how you guys remember it going down?
Yes.
I have a very different memory of this.
We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast,
people could call in and say, hey, Jonas.
And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
But thanks for remembering that, guys.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover,
and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash
and hormonal crying jag at a time.
You ladies know what I mean.
a paramedipausal chin here you do.
So let's talk about it.
Join me on my new podcast.
How hard can it be with the Adamani Arriba,
where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood
as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS.
All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own.
I was like, what the hell is that?
I was married when I had her,
so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Wait, what sex?
Dating at 45. How hard can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy?
That one's kind of hard.
Well, that's lighting.
They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be?
I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
why he got the ball.
After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.

This is Saigon, the story of my family and of the country that shaped us.
The United States will not stand by and allow any power, however great, take over another country.
From My Heart Podcasts, Saigon.
Please allow me to introduce Joseph Sherman.
You don't think I'm serious about a free Vietnam?
I should stop talking so much.
I like hearing you talk.
One city, a divided country, and the war that tore America.
America apart.
This is for Vietnam.
I've taken a hit from
Japanese ground fire.
Do you rate me?
They're pouring petrol all over him.
He's holding matches.
I'm on a landmine.
For freedom.
Let's get out.
Freedom for Vietnam.
Run!
SIGON, starring Kelly Marie Tran and Rob Benedict.
Sting, here's madness.
The world should hear about this.
There's a fire coming to this country
and it's going to burn out everything.

This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest.
Sorry, our first ever human guest.
I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the pair.
I'd be too nervous.
That's right.
The very funny, Will Farrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated
to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell.
They called to his fellow officer for the nippers.
What are the nippers?
Very good question.
No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing?
Simple assault.
And it's a play on word, salt?
Maybe not.
I say we invest and we see.
There's only one way to know.
This did not amuse the cops.
By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops.
Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes.
I didn't get caught.
You know why?
If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk.

It's a great time to be a soccer fan.
On Friday, it all kicks off with the FIFA World Cup final draw at 11.30 a.m. Eastern on Fox.
Then on Saturday, Messi and Inter-M Miami.
Square off against Vancouver for the MLS Cup at 2.30 p.m. Eastern, also on Fox.
Fired up for that.
fired up for that draw.
I know you are.
Well, it's time for the Honorable Judge Cowherd,
presiding in the court of my opinion.
Today, you give me all the quarterbacks,
all the young quarterbacks in the league.
2024 class, I am ready.
Let's make judgments fire away.
All right.
Do you accept the case that,
Caleb Williams is a franchise quarterback.
Yes, let me direct your attention to Caleb's star witness, his head coach, Ben Johnson.
One of the best passers on third down, thanks to Ben Johnson.
Fourth highest touchdown interception ratio.
37 touchdown to 11 picks since he entered the league.
Yes.
Okay, oh boy.
What a lenient judge.
Do you accept the case that Jaden Daniels is a franchise?
quarterback. Now everyone rise and raise your right hand for Jaden's left elbow. Yes.
Listen, highest completion percentage by any rookie quarterback ever. He is a highly mobile,
highly accurate, highly coachable, really bright kid. Who's injury prone? The verdict is yes.
He's a franchise guy. I like how they got a photo of you smiling. Judges should be serious.
Do you accept the case that Drake May is a franchise quarterback?
I would like to state for the record that Drake May is arguably the best quarterback out of the 2024 draft class.
Yes, on pace to be the second youngest quarterback to lead the NFL and pass a rating.
Who's number one?
Dan Marino, greatness in a league of mediocrity is easy to spot.
Drake May is great.
All right, now we get to the hard ones, Colin.
Do you accept the case that Michael Pennix is a franchise quarterback?
As your judge, you are instructed to disregard what you saw at the University of Washington.
He just had his third major knee surgery in his young career.
No is the answer.
He is a pure pocket passer.
I said when he came out, early injury would scare me right now.
His wins are over at J.J. McCarthy, Marcus, Mariotta,
and Drew Locke.
So far, no, not a franchise quarterback.
Yeah, all right, I kind of agree.
Do you accept the case that J.J. McCarthy,
after like seven starts, is a franchise quarterback?
As I stated earlier, the evidence does not support any argument
that JJ is ready to start a franchise.
The Vikings have averaged 17 points a game.
When he starts, his completion percentage is rough, 54%.
passer rating, minimum 100 attempts, minimum 100 attempts, 58.
There's no evidence to support.
As your judge, there is no evidence to support.
He's a franchise quarterback.
All right, do you accept the case that Bo Nix is a franchise quarterback?
Remember, J. Mack, we are all under oath to solemnly swear that Bo Nix is ready to lead a franchise.
Listen, he leaves the NFL the last two years with eight game winning drive.
There is an it quality to being a franchise guy in this league.
You can be great early, but if you shrink late, no thanks.
He can struggle early.
He and Caleb both can.
They rise late.
That's a franchise quarterback.
And finally, do you accept the case that Spencer Rattler is a franchise quarterback?
Stating his full name for the record, Spencer Benson Rattler, no.
He is a backup quarterback.
I mean, come on, he's one in 13.
12 touchdowns, 15 giveaways, and a pass-a-rating under 80.
He's talented.
He reminds me at Drew Locke.
I can see the talent.
I know he's got a good arm.
I know he moves okay.
You got to win games.
You got to make good decisions.
Do you see who the Saints replaced him with last week?
A couple weeks ago.
Yeah, Tyler.
Yeah, I forgot about Spencer Rattler, honestly.
But listen, you're a lenient judge.
Colin, let's be real.
it's a little early on Pennix and McCarthy given the injuries.
I mean, Penix barely started last year.
I will say, of all these, I feel very strongly, what's really the Michael Pennix injury, his third, is so, I think if you're Atlanta now, you've got to start drafting a backup quarterback because he hasn't been elite and he can't stay healthy.
I've said this with J.J. McCarthy.
You would know if he could stay healthy if he was the guy by now.
That's the worst part.
you don't think he is, but you don't really know because he's not available to start.
Bo Nix and Caleb Williams.
Bo Nix doesn't get sacked and he's durable.
Caleb doesn't throw picks and they're durable, and they're both great late.
So I don't expect everybody to be Drake May.
I will say we talked about this yesterday.
If you go back to the last, and top of my head, 30 drafts,
you get one franchise quarterback, a no doubt about it, good guy can make a Pro Bowl,
or two or three or four.
You get one franchise quarterback every draft.
I think quarterback plays better now in college.
You may get two now.
But you get a star about every four to five years.
You get a Drake May.
Drake May is a star.
Drake May is a, they don't even have a good O-line or a good run game,
and they may be the number one seat.
With Denver, you have a stacked, Denver's roster,
Chicago's roster, there's no holes.
Right.
I mean, New England's roster, I don't like their own line
or their run game, and they have no number one receiver.
Drake May is what you get every fourth draft, like a star.
So, but I don't like to throw around franchise quarterback tags.
So I'll ask you, like is Baker Mayfield a franchise quarterback?
He's on like his 16.
Okay.
Sam Darnold, I'm assuming you think is a franchise quarterback.
Yes.
Okay, well, if that's the case, then yes, I will agree with some of these, Colin.
But let me ask you about Bryce Young, because last year, if you had asked franchise quarterback,
hell no, right?
This year, you're like, I can see him being my quarterback.
quarterback for the next two or three years.
Okay, so this is good.
So you and I have talked about this.
Put it in context.
Sam Darnold's a franchise quarterback at $33 million a year.
Right.
Yes.
Baker, who can be reckless, is a franchise quarterback at $35 million.
I would keep Bryce Young at $33.
I'm letting him go if the demand is $46.
He is small.
He can get banged up.
They have a pretty good run game right now.
So he's got a very good offensive coach, Dave Canales,
and the Panthers have two running backs, Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dattle.
Those are good players.
And they have upgraded their defense.
I think Dan Morgan's actually a really sharp, former player, really sharp GM.
The guys in the league I know really like Dan Morgan.
I think Canales is good.
Now, I'm not saying that Bryce Young's only good because of them because nobody's good
with bad GMs and bad coaches.
I think Bryce Young is one of those guys.
Like I like Bryce Young.
I think he has more talent than Daniel Jones.
Daniel's bigger.
I think Daniel's got a better arm and is bigger.
I think Bryce Young's more talented.
I think he's got, I think he's just more efficient, more accurate.
So I think there's those guys like Daniel Jones and Bryce Young.
I think they're a franchise quarterback.
The number has to be in the 30s.
And then you have to be like, you know, 9 to 12% of the salary cap.
You can't be 26%.
Colin, you're right.
So maybe we need a new label from franchise quarterback because 35 mil versus DAC,
because if you look at the AFC standings, Colin, take a look.
The playoff teams.
Look at all the top teams.
Tell me which one of those guys are a franchise quarterback.
Because Bo Nix and Drake May, top two seeds, rookie quarterback deals.
They are franchise quarterbacks, though.
On a rookie deal.
Like Trevor Lawrence hasn't totally kicked in.
Lamar Jackson's barely in there.
They're paying Lamar.
Herbert, rookie deal, Daniel Jones, small deal.
Look who's on the outside.
Patrick Mahomes.
You got to pay him a lot.
Joe Burrow.
I know he's been hurt.
But franchise quarterback.
money matters. I don't know how we
re-label that. There's three kind of quarterbacks in the NFL.
Franchise, bridge, and backup.
So is Bryce Young the bridge?
I think Bryce Young is a guy that you get a favorable deal on
and then you start drafting quarterbacks in the third and fourth round
because he's injury prone and you just every other year.
Let's just draft a quarterback. Now I used to think that about DAC
and it takes a while. Now, Dax's in his 10th year
and he's literally as good as anybody in the league
this year consistently, he and Stafford.
So I think it's hard.
Quarterback's the hardest position.
I mean, if you go look at the 30 best
offensive tackles in league history,
27 are drafted in the first round.
Most of your great edge rushers
and defensive tackles, first round.
But there are positions like quarterback
where DAC, fourth round.
I mean, just start looking around.
Jalen Hertz, second round.
Baker, third, or fourth team.
Sam Darnold, the world gave up on it.
him. Brock Purdy 7th round.
So it's not easy.
Quarterback is leadership and toughness and guile and pre-snap.
It's a really hard position.
There are three categories. You're a franchise guy, Justin Herbert.
You're a bridge guy, Jacoby Brissette, and then you're a backup,
whoever you want to, you know, Zach Wilson, you know.
I think the tough one is when you get a Bryce Young and you're like, all right, we like him.
He falls in the Baker class.
I'm not paying him $49.54 million a year.
But I'll be honest.
But 33 is good.
Colin, Drake May, 50 mil, they're going to be fine.
Oh, yeah, you're fine.
But I'll be, I'll be dead serious.
I don't think you can pay Bo Nicks $50 million a year.
And expect Denver to compete.
Yeah, I don't think you can't.
Let's give him another 10, 15 starts.
Let's give Caleb another 10 to 15 starts.
I do think Caleb, if you're telling me,
he's going to complete 58% of his throws.
At some point, if you pay him,
I mean, if they paid Caleb, William,
this season. Could you keep Joe Tuny? Could you keep DJ Moore?
I mean, you couldn't. Could you keep Jalen Johnson?
Hour three, Albert Brear, Alexei Lawloff.

If we didn't talk ever again, I was funny.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game seven, Marquis come until he's like, you know I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.

Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit season two is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city
in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.
