This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On The Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam Jay.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle ground.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Now let's get this party started.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go, live in Los Angeles.
It's the herd, wherever you may be, and however, you may be listening.
Thanks for making a nice part of your day.
I was perusing last night, I watched some angel stuff.
Bobby Valentine's now in the Angel broadcast.
It was watching it or doing the studio stuff.
And, you know, I'm kind of watching Otani over the last three or four weeks.
Angels have gone all in.
They're going to keep him.
They gave up prospects.
So, you know, it is interesting, though, when I was at ESPN 10 years ago, if you would have told me that the Yankees would be in last place and the Orioles would be in first, I mean, the Orioles and the rays, the twins, the guardians, and you're like, Yankees, I checked last night, were like 11 back, Red Sox are like nine back, Mets not shockingly imploded.
But remember about 10, 12 years ago, the Hot Stove League was basically who can the Yankees?
and Red Sox of Ford.
It's amazing.
You get all those draft picks.
You're bad for a while.
You get draft picks.
You look up and all of a sudden it's like, oh, the Guardians, the Twins, the Orioles, the
rays, they got players.
So trading deadline yesterday, Tom Verducci, Fox Sports Major League Baseball,
analyst covered baseball for 41 years.
So we were talking earlier about Justin Verlander.
Basketball has LeBron.
Football's got Brady.
And whether it's psychology, emotion, nutrition, genetics,
Justin Verlander's hard to explain.
Still come throw upper 90s.
I went back and looked, 2006, he breaks in, rookie of the year.
17 years later, with, you know, pitching's a violent throwing motion.
He's still a top-tier old school power pitcher.
You know Verlander a little bit.
Is he wired differently?
What is it with him?
Yeah, he's wired differently.
First of all, this guy loves to compete.
And his idol is Nolan Ryan.
So he told me years ago, he said, listen, I want to pitch till I'm 45 years old.
I mean, who says that in today's game?
And it's one thing to say it, but it's another thing to push your body to be able to do it.
He had a big awakening a few years ago.
He's actually still with the Tigers back then.
He had core surgery.
And he thought he was almost done.
He had a game.
He came out of a game in Pittsburgh where it literally cried in the runway because he felt so bad because he was so diminished on the mound.
And ever since then, he has absolutely redeemed.
dedicated himself to taking care of himself. He does everything with intensity. Everything is
intentional. Yeah, you can look at a video of Justin in his rookie year and watch these from this
year with the Mets. There's not much change with how he throws a baseball. He's got a lot more left
in his tank. Yeah, so the Astros, it feels like everybody in baseball is chasing the Braves.
We'll get to that in a second, but the Astros get the big pickup. So the Angels go all in.
I could not be a GM and not get something,
but I do think Otani is so unique, Tom.
If Patrick Mahomes was also the league's best edge rusher,
what would you give up for him?
I think some of these teams thought,
okay, if we make a deal,
we don't know if we're going to keep him,
we can't gut our farm system
because if you pay him $700 million,
I need some of those farm hands to play and be affordable.
I can't gut my lineup.
otherwise I'm the Angels.
So were you surprised that there was, for the best baseball player, I think, top to bottom I've seen,
there wasn't a robust trade market.
Did that surprise you at all?
That's what I read.
Maybe there was a robust market.
There actually was a pretty good market.
I spoke with one team that said they put an unprecedented offer on the table to essentially
rent Otani for two months.
In other words, without really thinking you're going to re-sign him because who knows
where that number is going.
But essentially paying a price for two players because he has two players in one.
That's right.
I mentioned, you mentioned a Juan Soto type deal.
And this guy said basically the same or even bigger.
The problem there is you're trading prospects, really good prospects for Otani.
Artie Moreno doesn't want prospects.
This is, as you said, it's a generational player.
In a vacuum, yes, you have a player who might leave as a free agent.
You put them on the market.
You get something more than a compensation pick, right?
it's not just another player in that market when they haven't been to the playoffs in nine years they have a winning record
they're four games out of a wild card you have the best player on the planet you can't trade him i'm sorry
it's just the player the market the owner it adds up to a no-brainer keep them play it out see if you got a chance
to sneak into the postseason by the way they've been hot since the deadline do you think he stays
what would you if you were a gambling man is it 55 45 55 50 50 50 what if they squeak into the playoffs i think
it would be hard to leave.
Well, that's a good point because if they traded Otani, the percentage would have been zero, right?
You lose the power of incumbency.
You lose the chance to fall in love with a new direction, if you will, the Angels,
because he hasn't been close to the postseason.
He said himself, this is the first time in my six years here.
We're actually out there buying.
He digs that.
This guy wants to win.
If you saw him play in the WBC, you understand winning is super important to him.
So, yes, if they go on some magical kind of run here and they overtake one of the
these wildcar teams and get in, maybe win a series, that will help the angels keep him.
I still think, though, Colin, the number where this is going to go points me to the L.A. Dodgers.
They tried to sign him when he was in high school.
This is their white whale on the market.
They will not be outbid.
They can offer everything the angels can accept the fact that, again, if there's some of the
kind of this coat-de-crawl moment for the angels, they get into the postseason and he falls
in love with the place.
Well, that's what they're trying to see if they can work that out.
So a few years ago, the Dodgers got Mookie bets from the Red Sox, and so they move off Mookie and Bogarts.
And so you say to yourself, I can understand that's a lot of talent if they moved down a little.
They weren't going to spend the big money.
But the Mets did spend the big money.
The Yankees generally spend the big money, and they've struggled.
One's imploded.
One can make a wild card spot.
So let's just concentrate on the Yankees.
Whereas they're rivaled the Red Sox.
moved off big price tax.
Yankees go out and get Garrett Cole
and payer and judge, John Carlos Stanton.
Do you view the Yankees
as a significantly underachieving team this year?
I'll go back to last year, Carl.
You go back to July of last year.
They're 93 and 92.
They're essentially been a mediocre team
for more than a full calendar year.
And the reason why, as you look at that team,
they've gotten old in a hurry, right?
You mentioned Boston.
and they've had tremendous contributions from people like Jared Duran and Kossis,
and these guys coming up from their farm system.
I don't know if they're a playoff team right yet,
but I know they're in the mix because they're playing the game that you need to play in today's game.
When you look at Baltimore, you look at Cincinnati, you look at Arizona,
you need athleticism, you need speed.
The Yankees don't have that.
And they've counted on their older players reaching what they call the back of the baseball card, right?
DJ LaMayhew, Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton.
Well, they're going the other way right now.
And if you watch the Yankees, since Aaron Judge got back in the lineup, there is no protection for him.
So even the effect of Judge is muted because nobody will throw him a strike.
Yeah.
So the sport is chasing the Braves, not a shock.
They're very well run.
They have been forever.
They have stars.
They have a great farm system.
But a couple years ago, two of the last four World Series champs, the Nats and the Braves were under 500 until deep into the summer.
In fact, the Braves were under 500, like August 5th.
August, I mean, they were scrapping to get to it.
So that's generally rare.
But is there a team?
Philadelphia jumps out to me.
Is there a team to you that is, I don't know what their record is right now,
so I don't know if they're under 500.
But tell me a team that's in the 500 or below slightly.
Padres maybe, I think they're under it, that you think,
keep your eye, they're a Nat's Brave story.
Well, the Padres is the only team.
I can do that right now.
They are under 500.
You look at their roster and you go, this team's loaded with all stars.
Why can't they get on a run?
Well, we've watched them for 100 games, and you know what?
They get in their own way.
There's something about this team that has not clicked the entire year.
Doesn't mean it won't happen.
But, Colin, they're going to have to go 35 and 20 the rest of the way to get in the postseason.
Can they do it?
Yes, when you look at the roster.
But if you've watched them all year, you would say no.
They made some changes at the deadline, kind of tweak things around the edges,
help a little bit.
But I'm with you on Philadelphia because Philly was under 500 just about a month ago.
And they have caught fire.
They made a nice deal to get Michael Lorenzen, a little more pitching depth.
And let me tell you, if you're around the Phillies, that is a tough bunch of guys.
You put them in a playoff atmosphere.
And the Braves saw this last year, Colin, they're going to raise their game.
And I looked at what the Braves did.
And by the way, I agree with you.
The Braves have set the bar.
And actually, after the trade deadline, I think no one closed gap on the Braves.
And they went out and they got a left-handed pitcher, Brad Hand.
They're so good, the Braves, that this is like a specialty buy.
That's a second left-hander in the bullpen.
So if they have to face Schwabor or Bryce Harper in the fifth inning,
they don't have to go to AJ Minter yet.
They bring in Brad Hand, lefty specialist.
That's how specialized they're tweaking this roster,
looking at postseason matchups and figuring out every little incremental edge they can get.
Because on paper, you know, one through 26, they're clearly not just the best in the league,
the best team in baseball.
Yeah, Philly's 58-49.
They reportedly have a great locker room.
I read a story last week with the Padres.
A lot of these, they don't like you.
The chemistry is bad.
It happens.
It's happened before.
You mix in a lot of stars, young, old, sometimes it doesn't click.
Tom Verduci, you know, Dodger fans, they're getting all freaked out.
They didn't get the move they wanted.
My takeaway is even great franchises have a step back here.
I feel like they're going after Otani.
I think they're a good team.
I don't think they're a great team.
Are they a World Series team to you?
Is there something missing, in your opinion, with the Dodgers that can't get them past, you know, eventually a Houston or in Atlanta?
Well, they tip this off column because they tried to get a starting pitcher, and they tried real hard.
They tried for Verlander.
He wanted to go to Houston.
They tried for Dillon C's for the White Sox.
The price was too high for a pitcher who's under control.
They actually had a deal for Eduardo Rodriguez to the Tigers, and he was like, you know what?
I have family in Miami.
I just don't want to go to the West Coast at this time.
he shut that down.
So they struck out on getting the top of the market starting pitcher.
That tells you that they're signaling, we like our starting pitching,
but this is not a typical Dodger staff going to the postseason.
They're ERA in July.
Dodger rotation, ERA, the worst since the franchise landed in L.A.
So I think the questions about their rotation are legit,
and we're back to them relying heavily on Clayton Kershaw in a postseason environment.
Yeah.
Is he have a one year left?
Was it a one-year deal?
Yeah.
Yeah, I think he's a Dodger for life.
It's all about how much he wants to keep pitching.
Yeah.
All right, Tom Verducci, four Emmys, Fox Sports, great stuff, trade deadline.
The winner has to be Houston because they got a horse and Justin Verlander.
Nolan Ryan, by the way, we were talking about it.
I think Verlander's got three no-hitters.
Nolan had, I think, seven.
But he's got an MVP.
He's got three Cy Youngs.
And he is 17 years in.
Is still throwing gas, Justin Verlander.
So way to go, Houston.
Thomas O, it's a total pleasure to see you. Thanks, man.
Yeah, always fun, Colin, thanks.
You bet. Yeah, I've read a story last week in the Padres. The players don't like each other.
There's all sorts of chemistry issues. Remember I told you two weeks ago, I said there's a baseball team.
If you could bet it, underdog bet it was the Phillies.
I read a little Reddit board on the Phillies.
I've been watching a lot of baseball. The Otani story is fascinating to me.
Fascinating.
You think so?
I mean, he didn't go anywhere.
Well, you know, but it's still, they've got to get to the playoffs for him to stay.
That's going to be a $700 million deal.
It would have been way more fun if he had left and then as a free agent and could go again.
Not fun for the Angels.
Fun for who?
For everyone else who follows baseball?
The only winner here is Angels fans.
That's it.
And it's, you get something against Orange County.
It's beautiful.
That's what I hear.
Nice.
Very nice.
You should go for a drive down there.
You should move out of your neighborhood.
Just stop hanging out with Stafford and actually get on the 405 and go south.
mouth a little. It's nice down there. Yeah, well.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different.

All right, good to have you back. So we're calling them my almost sure NFL predictions.
So there's a new rule on the show, which we instituted yesterday. Nothing said in July.
counts. We're just trying to fill space.
June, great NBA, our opinions are strident, powerful, and we care about them.
August, college pro football, we're into it. July, making stuff up.
Journalism out the door. Can't hold anything against us.
So now these opinions, they count. So I am watching closely what's happening. I said
yesterday, Denver's multiple injuries at skill positions, I have pulled them back.
So this morning, I'm almost sure this is what I'm going with.
I'm not going to give you one through four.
I'm going to give you division winners playoff teams.
So in the AFC, these would be my playoff teams, seven teams in.
Bills win the AFC east, Bengals win the north, Jags win the south, Chiefs win the west.
Right now, my wildcard teams.
I'll get to more of this in a second, Dolphins, Ravens, Chargers.
In the NFC, Eagles, Lions, Panthers, Niners, I've got a surprise, Panthers,
are my division winners, Cowboys, Saints, Vikings.
We're selling too much stock in the Vikings.
They're a good team.
They're not going to go 0 and 11 and one-score games.
Are my playoff teams.
Now, the concern is there's only three new playoff teams.
So in 33 consecutive NFL seasons, no exceptions, at least four teams, four new teams make the playoffs.
So I'm one shy.
So there are teams I'm going to watch very closely.
Miami Dolphins, I'm going to watch their health very closely.
They get banged up, I'm going to go Jets.
I'm going to watch the Ravens health very closely.
They are stars outside of Mark Andrews all get hurt.
They get banged up.
I'm going to go Steelers.
That would put me at five new playoff teams.
Okay, so I'm at three.
This is almost sure.
I'm going to keep my eye.
The best team that won't make it in the AFC, I think, is going to be Steelers or Broncos this morning.
Again, I'm going to watch the Ravens Hell.
The best team in the NFC that won't make it will be Seattle.
I think in the end, I just think Minnesota, offensive coach, I think we're selling way too much stock on Minnesota.
We don't know if Detroit's going to have the next level.
We don't know what the Bears and Packers are.
Minnesota is a really well-run organization, drafting, coach, good quarterback.
So I got the Cowboys back in because I do think defensively they're in the top five defense.
So Eagles, Lions, Panthers, Niners, Cowboys Saints, Vikings.
Only have three new teams.
I've got to find one, probably two, maybe three.
That's where I'll watch camp in the injury list.
So, J-Mack, you're almost sure NFL predictions.
You can wiggle out if there's a, you know, Joe Burrell got hurt really or something.
So here we go.
So you have the jets in over the dolphins and you have the Steelers in over the Chargers.
Otherwise, we're alive.
Yeah, that scares me because, I mean, come on.
That's in the AFC.
I mean, none of us have a new division winner there.
We have the same teams repeating a division.
So here's my argument.
The staff said that.
The quarterbacks never meant more.
The AFC's got superstar quarterbacks.
They're going to become more predictable.
When Aikman was playing for the Cowboys and far for the Packers,
when you get great quarterbacks in well-run organizations,
they do win their division consistently.
That's what the AFC is.
NFC,
Brady's retired, Rogers left.
We really don't know.
I mean, Jared Goff on some Sundays is the best quarterback in the NFC.
The other problem, like, I wanted to put Chargers in.
Who am I taken out?
How were the Ravens missing the playoffs?
I mean, if Lamar gets hurt, I get it.
Injuries.
Their offense is stacked.
Yeah, I know.
Okay, so go to your NFC.
NFC, we have, I had a minor tweak.
I now have the Bears.
I have upgraded them over the Falcons into the playoffs.
I'm stunned that you have the Panthers.
That would be probably one of your best calls
since you've been doing radio.
The Panthers,
with a rookie quarterback won the division?
That would be stunning.
Hey.
I just want to remind people,
Trevor Lawrence was a much more
Ballyhooed number one pick.
They drafted first the following year after he was a rookie.
But they had a coaching situation.
Doug Peterson beat Belichick in the Super Bowl.
We don't question his competency,
his excellent.
His career.
What's he done?
Frank, a great coach.
He's a good coach.
What's he done?
Like you said Peterson.
What does that mean?
What has he done?
Win games and get to the playoffs with Philip Rivers,
who ran like a batting cage the year he had him.
Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer, is he not?
In the end, he was just an old guy limping around talking trash, throwing bad picks.
There's too much similar.
Somebody's going to break through that we do not see.
I cannot believe you're buying into the Bears.
There's just so.
So they have to win that Green Bay game, you've already got it done.
I think that Green Bay game, you were right on that.
Week 1 Bears Green Bay game is massive.
All the pressure on Chicago.
At home, they got the veteran playmakers,
all the pressure on the Bears in week one.
That's a big game with Green Bay.
How do we both have Seattle dropping out?
By the way, you were hyping the Rams earlier.
No way they're a five-win team.
Why aren't they on your list?
Because I got them at eight.
Oh, yeah.
You guys got them as a seller-dweiler.
I'm saying McVeigh-Stafford.
That's not a five-win team in the NFL.
out. So we're actually, we have two disagreements and we're not, they're not, the bears I
totally disagree with, the Panthers you disagree with. When your guy West posts this on social,
I guarantee you, you guys are idiots. You're missing, you know, the Giants. Giants fans are coming
after us now. You know that, right? I have no idea. They don't like it. They don't like us.
I don't run my Twitter anymore. No, no, I'm kind of not on the Twitter, but on Instagram,
people hate that we hate that, that I hate that. We don't hate the Giants. I don't hate them.
I just don't think they're good.
They're rebuilding their skill players,
tight end, wide receiver, offensive.
Outside of Sequin Barclay, they're rebuilding the offense.
If you told that to Brian Daibald, would he agree after winning a playoff game?
Because he wants to instill confidence.
But Sequan Barclay's a star, left tackles a star, and they have Daniel Jones.
I could argue the other eight guys you'd move off tomorrow if you got a better player.
And it's an offensive league.
I love their defensive front.
I think, you know, Dexter Lawrence is a stud.
I think Tibado is going to have a great year, too.
Falcons did not make either of our list.
They were in there for me last month.
I like the Falcons.
But the more I've been reading about the Bears and I'm starting to buy the Justin Fields DJ Moore hype.
It's becoming a thing in Chicago.
Okay.
You're not feeling that.
Well, deep dish pizza is a thing.
It hasn't caught on elsewhere.
All right.
There's our predictions.
Our almost sure NFL playoff predictions, J-Mac with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the heard line news.
I like that you're speaking well of Chicago.
It's a great American city.
It's a great global city.
It's a bad basketball team and a good ascending football team.
I'm not going to speak about the city.
I've done enough.
I've done enough damage on that.
Hey, let's start with a, I don't want to call this a quarterback situation.
But remember, last week, Mac Jones said he thinks he's good with Belichick.
Remember, think was the key word.
I was hung up on that.
You made a lot about that.
Right.
So it's year three.
Jones is trying to solidify his place.
Bailey Zappi is the backup.
So Belichick was asked about who the starting quarterback is going to be.
Listen in.
You're talking about the quarterbacks,
and you said we'll give them a chance to compete and see how it goes.
That implying that the quarterback job is kind of open for competition during camp?
Everybody's out here competing.
It's all 90 guys.
That's what we're all here for.
Let's go out and compete.
So Mac Jones isn't necessarily your...
Everybody's out here competing.
Everybody's out here competing.
That's what everybody's doing.
We asked Mac the other day how his relationship is it good with you, and he said, I think so.
I'm just curious, what's your characterization of your relationship?
I think he's good with every player.
Is this gamesmanship?
What's he doing here?
Motivational tactics?
I mean, like, if Matt Jones sees this clip and his family does, they're like, wait a minute, what's going on, Bill?
Everybody's out here competing?
He has to have settled on a quarterback right now.
No?
I mean, it's funny.
So Cam Newton showed up to New England, and Bill spent a year telling the world how great he was when he was kind of washed.
Mack eventually, Bill just chose Mac over Cam, but he'll never put his arms around Mac.
He struggled putting his arms around Brady.
He struggles putting his arms around Mac.
I don't know what it is.
Does he think they're arrogant?
I don't know.
I mean, it was funny because for a year with Cam, he just gave Cam all this love.
And maybe it was to inject some confidence because Cam had injuries and was kind of seen as a, he wasn't making it.
money with New England, and he put his arms around Cam. I liked it. I was like, oh,
I like that. Like, support your quarterback. But man, he was cranky with Brady, and he just gives
no love to Mac Jones. I think young quarterbacks, you've got to make them feel special.
I think it's, it's... But I thought we were told not to tell our kids, you're awesome,
great job, you're the best, you're supposed to say, you know, good effort, good stuff, and not
overpraise them because then they start thinking they're the man. Maybe this is a psychological game he's
playing here saying, hey. You don't compliment your kids?
I do, but I try not to get gushy and be like, oh, you're the best way to go.
That was amazing.
You know, like, hey, way to put in the work.
You know, the hard work pays off.
Nice job.
I mean, listen, I'm not great at that.
You know, when they do something outstanding, I'm...
You got your kid in the NBA and he's nine.
I mean, give me a break.
I did when he was eight, but at nine, no, I could tell it wasn't...
Listen, I thought, I don't mind admitting this.
You know, the reason I've got into sports and talking about it,
I was like I was a good youth athlete, and then it got to high school and everybody hit puberty and is huge,
and I didn't get big.
Yeah.
I go out for the freshman basketball team.
I walk in there.
All right.
I'm going to be starting point card.
I didn't even make the team.
And I was like, that was humbling.
That was eye opening.
I was like, what the heck?
Maybe I'm not as good as I thought.
Yeah.
And it was just like, I think that's why I've dove in now as an adult to dominate rec leagues and get like a stack team.
I think that you're projecting quite well there.
Is that a good thing?
You do a lot of therapy.
I'm not going to get into it, but I think that's exactly what's happening.
And that's okay.
I think that happens in America a lot.
You kind of live your childhood.
failures. You want to succeed as an adult? I get it.
And now I'm talking about sports on TV.
It's really fun. Good life for you.
It's not bad. No complaints.
I'm working with America's honesty broker.
It can get better than that.
All right, let's keep it honest with the Raiders.
Josh Jacobs continues his holdout after receiving that franchise tag.
He has yet to show up.
But Josina Anderson reports the Raiders are open to restarting talks in hopes
of getting Jacobs back in camp.
And, you know, maybe he goes to the Sequan-Barkley route and tries to
to renegotiate something. Any thoughts on the Raiders and Jacobs and...
The Raiders are a little like the Rams. I got an offensive coach. I got a Super Bowl
quarterback. I've got an elite defensive lineman. Weapons I like. O-line capable. People don't
like it. I think they're good at left tackles. They're not that good. And I have questions
in the secondary. The Raiders have really good players at all the positions I need you to have
outside a cornerback like the Rams. The interior of their offensive line is among the leads
worst, according to pro football focus. The grades are horrible. It's all like orange and red
and nap. It's not good. I don't remember. I think they're a last place team. I just think,
I don't think if Garoppolo had a good B plus year, they're not abysmal. They're not playing,
they're not getting Caleb Williams. It's like I say this. If you look at the NFL right now,
there's two or three things that guarantee success. A smart offensive coach and a winning
quarterback, that almost always you're a viable playoff team. Do you have one star
weapon at least, a star defensive
lineman up front in your front five,
and do you have some mobile? You don't need Fred
Warner. Do you have linebackers that can cover
in space? Raiders kind of
have that. And everybody thinks they're terrible.
I'm sure the audience heard you say Super
Bowl quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo.
I am curious. He was in the perfect
setup in San Francisco.
Great offensive line, amazing defense,
skill position players. Still got there.
He goes to, stop it. He goes
to the Raiders and like, they are not
in that division, they've probably got the worst skill division player.
Well, maybe better than Arizona.
Hunter Renfro?
What about him?
Devante Adams is awesome and elite.
Josh Jacobs?
Josh Jacobs?
Josh Jacobs?
Josh Jacobs is not here.
He will be.
So Josh Jacobs, Devonte Adams, Hunter Renfro.
They like their tight end, Moreau.
They like him.
Michael Mayer, excuse me.
I love the kid.
I don't know.
But he hasn't played.
Is Moreau?
Did he get traded to get moved?
I think he has.
Yeah, my bad saints.
So they went and got Michael Mayer's second best tight end.
so he'll play.
Seattle has better-skilled position players.
It's not even close.
I think they play the Raiders this year.
I mean, I just...
They're similar.
They've got veteran quarterbacks, a good left tackle,
a star receiver, a second interior receiver,
and a really good back.
Worst team this year, Raiders or Bucks?
Oh, the Bucks are a mess.
Yeah, the Bucks, books.
Bucks don't have the right.
They don't have the quarterback.
Their weakest O line spots,
probably left tackle.
They do have Mike Evans.
Oh, and Tristan Worf's moving to left from right.
Oh, he is?
Yeah, he's awesome.
I'm just, this Raiders team, there's a world where they're a four or five-win team.
And the Super Bowl is in their building.
In Vegas.
I know the Jets are ticketing.
Anyways, final story.
To the NBA, we haven't talked to NBA.
I don't think all week.
Colin, Kyrie Irving is on social media and battling fans.
What a shocker.
He has won a total of 11 playoff games in six seasons since parting ways with LeBron.
Yeah.
11 playoff wins.
That's it.
This was pointed out to him in a tweet in which Kyrie replied,
pin this tweet and see what happens in a few years.
Oh my gosh, that tweet looks horrible with all those different jerseys.
Like, dude, how many teams have you switched?
I don't know.
Kyrie Irving is spending his summer, I guess, arguing with people on social media.
Seems productive.
Well, it's not my cup, but Kevin Durant does that and we like Kevin.
Kevin Durant has championships without LeBron or, you know,
Without a...
Without who?
The LeBron situation.
Not without Curry, but...
Some guys, I'm not a battler on social media.
Some people are.
It's not my cub.
I swear, since they went to the black X, I miss the color blue and the bird.
I'm not losing sleep, but I just...
I don't go to it much anyway, but now it's like it looks like my Uber, the athletic.
It looks like TikTok.
It's just a black app.
Twitter with the bird jumped off my phone.
I just don't go to it.
I don't understand that move.
I mean, I don't know.
Elon Musk is brilliant, right?
PayPal, Tesla, Starlink.
I don't understand.
I thought Twitter had a brand.
I was like a good brand.
I think he's killing it right now.
X is so adult entertainment.
It does have an adult entertainment vibe.
I don't get that move.
Like who in the room said, didn't anybody go?
Well, that's the thing.
He's surrounded by yes men.
I mean, if you bought Fox Sports, you know what I wouldn't change?
the name Fox Sports.
There may be executive moves or talent or contract.
I wouldn't give up the name Fox Sports and the logo.
It's iconic.
Well, I wonder if he's seeing that Zuckerberg gave up Facebook and started to call it meta.
After post-election and all that nonsense.
They're both a little crazy for my face.
You know, I had a Facebook analogy I was going to drop on how everybody bailed on Facebook.
Like, everybody was off of it.
The stock plummeted.
Yeah.
And then if you were sharp, you noticed, well, geez, they got a lot of money.
Facebook, they got a lot of, like, all of a sudden the stock starts rising in the last, like, year, Facebook's sock is soaring.
And you're like, everybody sold Facebook thinking like the brand is dead, Zuckerberg killed it, he's evil.
And now all of a sudden it's way back up based on a couple smart moves by smart executive.
So maybe Musk is trying to copy that.
Again, it's not worth long discussions, but it just seems if I bought a company, like when you had an iconic,
like logo and brand, I wouldn't let my ego get in the way and change it.
I mean, like ESPN may not be what it once was, but I wouldn't change ESPN.
It's something.
It's iconic.
Like Apple.
I know what the logo looks like in my head.
If I bought Apple, I'm not changing the name or the logo.
Like, right?
Like, I don't understand that.
Seems pretty basic.
You think.
There's not very many iconic brands.
FedEx.
I know what their logo looks like.
UPS.
UPS.
UPS.
I know
it's a brown truck.
You know it's UPS.
I don't think
I change the color of the truck.
Like it's hard enough
to build a brand
and when you get it
don't kick it to the curb
double down on it.
You can make changes to stuff
I don't have a problem with that
but I don't,
that one I just
spoke like a true business man
just over my head completely.
You're thinking about a pivot
from volume to a new brand?
No, no, no.
I just got my little life.
J. Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lod.
Well, I mean, that's why he's a billionaire, and I'm just a schmuck talking to no microphone.
Maybe Elon knows something I don't, you think?

I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
We get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Sunday morning, the U.S. moves on to the round of 16 at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup,
as they face their biggest challenge yet when they take on perennial rivals, Sweden.
Covers begin Sunday morning at 4 a.m. Eastern with kickoff at 5 a.m. Eastern on 5.m.
in the Fox Sports app.
So late last night, not late, too late, I watched USA Portugal another replay.
We're not very good.
We have no fluidity on offense.
Again, we've had a lot of new players.
I think 14 new players on the roster.
We're not very good.
And we're struggling offensively.
And Carly Lloyd came out.
I thought the comment that was fascinating is that she said, I don't think we're in good
condition.
We're not in shape.
Whoa.
That is a complete utter indictment.
You can talk about schemes, you can talk about personnel, you can talk about fit.
When you acknowledge an opine as somebody connected to the United States Women's National
team, our conditioning's not good.
Like, we're not in shape.
If you said that about an NFL team or a college basketball team, I don't think they're in shape.
That's an indictment of the coach.
Listen, I guess you got to treat them like the men's team, right?
When the men's team stinks, we go in on them and we say, hey, they're terrible.
They're not playing well.
Well, this team looks bad.
And it looks slow.
Slow, disorganized.
And they shouldn't be because when you're young, you know, young teams in any sport usually are hyper athletic, right?
They recover from injuries faster.
You're in your athletic peak, 23 to 27.
They just don't, I don't know.
I'm trying to find a line on the game.
I would not be shocked if we were a slight underdog.
Sweden's good.
You're very good.
I'll look for the line on the game.
Yeah. By the way, so there's a lot more information. The internet has obviously, with all the search engines, you can look up anything. I remember when I was a kid, it was like a skill if you could memorize the back of baseball cards and memorize sports statistics. And then they invented Google. And then I saved my time on memorizing stuff. I can just look it up within like half a second. I get the answer. But I do think the
advantage to have on the internet is if you are curious and want information, there's data everywhere,
analytics everywhere on football. So here's the bets, according to BetMGM. Here are the bets the
public is making is the public getting savier on betting. Now, I'm not going to talk about the overall
handle because that's some big betters, but tickets, meaning can be a $5 bet. So the most bet overs in the
NFL by fans, this is just the ticket sold, could be a $3 bet, $5 bet.
Patriots over 7 and a half wins.
I would not make that bet.
I think they're at 7.
It's hard to find eight wins for the Patriots.
The Broncos at 8.5, missing two receivers.
I think they're going to be around that number, 8 or 9.
Probably would not be one of my bets.
Commanders over 6.5 wins.
Sam Howell, I think they've got a decent roster.
but Dallas's defense and Philadelphia's defense probably go four and O against Sam Howl,
probably New York Giants split.
Their defense, though, good too.
So the defense is in that division.
The commanders could go over six and you wouldn't be shocked with a rookie quarterback.
Eagles defense, Cowboys defense, Giants defense.
I would not bet any of these overs, so I don't think this is too savvy.
Let's go to the most bet unders by fans.
Cardinals, four and a half under.
If Kyler Murray plays 10 games, they're winning more than four and a half.
Raiders at five and a half, I think they've got some talent.
I think they're going to win more than five and a half games.
I do think Buccaneers under six and a half is a very savvy bet because I think their early
schedules bad, and if they go one in five, they're just going to trade pieces and get into
the Caleb Williams sweepstakes.
So I think the Buccaneers, of those six bets, the Buccaneers feels like the
savvious bet to me.
You know, Baker leads the NFL in picks since he got into it.
Two and eight last year.
He's a backup now, not a franchise guy.
Todd Bowles, defensive coach.
They've got some really, really interesting pieces in the secondary D-line.
I think they're going to sell some of them off, you know, strategically get draft
picks.
They're going to rebuild.
They don't look at Baker Trask as the future of the franchise.
guys. So six bets, the most bet overs, the most bet unders, and I would say five I wouldn't
touch, Buccaneers the best ones. So it is hard to find eight wins for the Patriots on their
schedule. So that's the one that jumps out, Colin. So when you see most bet overs, that means
the general public, you know, Joey Bag of Donuts coming in from Massachusetts to Vegas,
betting, Patriots over, Belichick. He never loses. Looks like he won seven games in.
the COVID year, 7 and 9 with Cam.
He always wins over 500.
He always gets the first the division's ever been.
Colin, I just looked it up.
They are currently favored this season in three games.
That's it.
The Patriots are favored in three games.
If they double that, they're a six and eleven teams.
So they're going to have to pull some of this.
Now, they are pick them against the dolphins in week two at home, and they're favored
against the Colts in Germany, although we have no idea who's going to start.
Their schedule.
It's unbelievably tough.
We just listen to the quarterbacks they face.
Just the quarterbacks.
Jalen Hertz, Tua, Aaron Rogers, Dack, Derek Carropolo, Josh Allen, Tua, two rookies by Daniel Jones, Herbert, Pickett Mahomes, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, Aaron Rogers.
There's not eight wins there.
That, to me, is not an eight wins?
So what is the general public seeing?
Is this simply a bet on Belichick?
He's going to figure it out.
Like, the division got harder.
Well, he will beat Howl and Anthony Richardson because he beats young quarterbacks.
He's legendary for that.
So put those up as Ws.
Miami's had their number.
So is Buffalo.
That could be 0 and 4 there.
If they split with the Jets.
Let's give them the Giants win.
Okay, so let's give them the two rookie quarterbacks and the Giants win.
How about give them a Kenny Pickett win?
Fine, four.
They've got to go into Pittsburgh and face T.J.
But I'll give them a W.
Fine.
We'll give them that's four wins.
We'll give them three wins off young quarterbacks and then a fourth win off Daniel Jones.
That's guaranteed.
Okay. Now, they do own the Jets. Do you want to, just for the sake of argument, give them one win over the Jets?
Okay, let's give them one. That's five. How about the Raiders game there? Six?
Let's give them Raiders, sure, six.
Where do you get two more wins?
I mean, maybe Derek Carr is seven? You know, it's in Foxborough, and it looks like the line is Patriots by three, so we'll give them that one.
Well, that's eight.
No, that's, it's seven or eight.
Let's see. I think that's seven.
One, two, three, four. You're right. That's seven.
So now you still got to find another one.
Are they upsetting the bills?
No.
Are they taking down the Chiefs?
You want to give them the Broncos win in Mile High, Week 16?
No.
It's just really tough.
And that's winning every game that they're favored in.
And winning any game, like going to Pittsburgh with that defense, they don't have any receivers.
I think the opposite, right?
If the general public's betting the over on the Patriots, a logic would say, I'm going to go, you know,
put a mortgage payment on the under, right?
That seems like the move.
Do the opposite of what the unwashed masses are doing.
They've known nothing about gambling that are betting Bill Belichick.
Well, that was a bit harsh.
That harsh?
Yeah.
I mean, I think they'll be competent.
I just, I think the way New England's team is structured,
you have to play perfectly to win because they don't have game breakers.
So everything's going to be on script.
And they'll win games like that.
They'll beat the young quarterbacks.
But what makes, you know, teams like Cincinnati and Kansas City and,
and these teams that have playmakers is you don't have to coach perfectly and play perfectly.
Nick Saban figured this out, is that as the game got harder to defend,
he really leaned into skill players and quarterbacks.
You don't have to be a perfect coach.
I mean, New England offensively is going to score on 11 play drives.
11 play drives.
How many of those are you going to have over the year?
This team cannot take turnovers at all.
Like Kansas City could have a turnover of a game and win 13 games.
That's how they win.
I just started, Colin, I was going to say, man, I wonder if I could find
out how many like comeback wins.
Mac Jones has had.
So I just looked at up, pro football reference.
Game winning drives in 31 games, according to pro football reference, one for Mac Jones.
Fourth quarter comebacks, 31 games for Mac Jones, one fourth quarter comeback.
Well, they don't.
They're not built to come from behind.
No, no.
Exactly.
And you're facing these great quarterbacks?
It's a recipe for disaster.
Yeah, no, that's a very good point.
They're not built.
There are certain teams that are built to win.
in certain ways.
And they're not built to catch up quickly.
Mahomes is.
Chargers could.
Eagles could.
There are teams, Baltimore.
There are teams that could come to Cincinnati.
They are built to control the clock, 11 play drives.
The game ends, they take a knee.
That's how they're built to win.
Good luck with those quarterbacks.
That schedule is not easy.
