This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

I got Ray Allen dissing LeBron James.
Oh, my Lord, the envy and jealousy.
Those old guys do not like LeBron James.
It cracks me up.
And I love Ray Allen.
You know, I used to live around Hartford.
He's a legend there.
I'm sorry that you had to.
I like Ray Allen. Great golfer, by the way.
He said his all-time NBA team.
He said LeBron James would come off the bench.
So Ray Allen's now hated in Boston and clearly Miami and probably Cleveland.
Anybody like Ray Allen?
I love Ray Allen.
I like the old guy.
I grew up with the old guys.
The difference is I like the young guys.
Well, you like Ray Allen, the player, but taking shots at LeBron?
Well, it's all fun.
This is all a big festival.
Let's just have some fun.
Festival of fun.
Let me just take shots at LeBron.
Why not?
You'll learn over time.
It's just a big circus and we're part of it.
I want to start with this.
Devante Adams, who is, in my opinion, as good a wide receiver as the NFL has.
I said yesterday, if I was doing a Pro Bowl team and I got two receivers, and there's a lot of good ones,
I would take Devonte Adams and Justin Jefferson.
If I could sneak a third in, I'd take Jamar Chase.
But the league's got just a ton of great receivers as the league is kind of pivoted to an offensive league.
But he was talking about the Raiders currently.
And I thought this kind of jumped out.
He said the front office, we don't see eye to eye on what we think is best for us.
I'm going to have to buy into this and try to be as optimistic as possible.
It's not what I expected to happen.
It's something that's the reality now.
So first of all, he's pissed.
He liked Derek Carr.
That's why he came to the Raiders to play with his college buddy, Derek Carr.
I think the Raiders are lucky that he didn't freak out when it initially happened.
You know, he's been a good soldier.
He's been a good guy.
You know, it ticked him off.
That's why I went there.
I don't think Jimmy Garoppolo could be hurt by week six.
So Josh McDaniel, the former Patriot OC, is the head coach here.
And my only knock really on Josh McDaniels, he has a kind of an arrogant, I know best mentality for quarterbacks.
So when he got a head job in Denver, Jay Cutler had his best year, his only Pro Bowl year,
and he didn't get along with him.
So he moved off him.
And then he drafted Tim Tebow.
And no executive I liked.
thought Tim Tebow was a first round quarterback.
Some thought he was a third or a fourth.
We found out he wasn't a draftable quarterback, to be honest.
But, you know, he knew.
He also battled Brady and Belichick through the years, especially Tom.
And then he goes to Vegas and he doesn't get along with Derek Carr.
And so the question with Josh McDaniels, who I think is, is, remember when Derek Carr left?
He said, remember that?
He said, there's so many things I want to talk about, but I want to be a professional.
So he ticked off Derek Carr and Jay Cutler.
He drafted Tim Tebow.
he battled at times with Brady.
Is Josh McDaniel the Raiders coach becoming Adam Gase?
Where one all-time great vouches for him, Peyton Manning loves Gays, Brady loves Josh McDaniel.
And then after that, if you subtract that, there's not much there.
So in New England, he had guardrails.
Belichick's a genius head coach, and Brady's the greatest quarterback ever.
So if Josh screwed up, he had guardrails.
Now he does it.
Now he's the head coach.
and he doesn't have Tom Brady.
And if he screws up, Belichick's not there to correct him.
He's not a guardrail.
So there are concerns out there, and I think they're legitimate,
is that, you know, Adam Gase had one legend that vouched for him,
and everybody else is like, that doesn't work.
I can't work with that guy.
Are we getting that here?
Jay Cutler, the Tim Tebow, the Brady battles, Derek Carr.
Derek Carr is hard not to get along with.
I don't know.
I mean, and I'm not anti-Jimmy Garoppolo.
I've been pro-Grippolo.
much more than most people.
But I think Devonthe Adams is saying,
yo, I left Aaron Rogers for her reason.
And it was to play with Derek Carr.
I mean, my family's here.
That helps.
But you don't leave Aaron Rogers go to a place with a bad quarterback.
So we'll see.
I got him fourth in the division.
Some of it's Josh McDaniel.
I don't know if he's a head coach.
He's a really good offensive coordinator.
Chandler Parsons played in the NBA for almost a decade,
13 points a game in the playoffs three different times.
He now is a Fanduil TV show, Run It Back with Sharmes Sarranya, my friend Michelle Bidol, and a cast of others,
and we appreciate him coming on today.
He just got back from Bahamas or something, so he's tan.
He looks like he's in a great space.
So I was watching the game last night, and my takeaway was these are all seven-round fights.
That was the first round.
And clearly, the Lakers had faced small Golden State, and because no, Stephen Adams, smaller Memphis.
and they met the Redwoods last night.
They were just, I mean, that team is
Porter's big, Yokic big,
even KCP's a big guard.
But then they tweaked it.
And the second half,
and Chandler, I was thinking,
I could see the Lakers that shoot around today
thinking, guys,
that we're a better team.
Were you ever in a playoff series
that you lose early,
but you know it's a good loss?
We are better than that team.
Well, yeah.
And especially last night how this game went, right?
This was this individual performance, Yoko Chad.
That was honestly one of the best three-quarter performances I've ever seen
from an individual from start to finish.
He dominated the game.
And think about just for a second how good Anthony Davis played,
and he still was outplayed by Yokic.
But I find it encouraging, though, because they still with,
they still withstood all this.
They still withstood the run.
They were down 21 points at one point in the second half.
Yeah.
And they cut it to three.
So there's definitely some encouraging here, and they definitely think they're going to make it a game and can win game two.
It was just not giving up.
They played hard.
They battled.
They made some big plays down the stretch.
Obviously, they got to clean up a lot of issues defensively, right?
They can't give up 72 points in the first half.
But they made a change.
And I think what really helped them is they got AD off Yokin's.
They went to Rui Hachamora, which kind of freed up, freed up AD to play safety, allowed him to kind of.
of roam and that kind of changed the game and we talked about on our show before that this is
the best defense in the playoffs with the lakers and this is the best offense with the nuggets and which
one was going to prevail and the lakers don't want to trade baskets with this team they're too
good offensively they're too elite um but they got to get back in transition but man the way the nuggets
moved the ball last night the way yoke is played the way their role player stepped up with
colwell pope knocking down shots with bruce brown coming off the bench knocking down shots
Murray had a game.
Aaron Gordon was involved.
So it's not just Yokic.
He's the head of the stake, and he is fantastic.
And what he did those first three chords last night,
again, I can't remember someone playing that good in a playoff game.
But it's definitely encouraging for the Lakers because they're going to make some adjustments.
They found something with Ruey Garden, him.
And I think it's definitely going to be a lot more competitive game come game, too.
So most Biggs have had something memorable.
Kareem had the skyhook, uh, wilt, the headband and the dominance,
Russell defense, Shaq Body, the slam dunks.
And then there's, and then there's, even Embed is fun and flashy.
And then there's Yokic.
And I said he's the P.B. and J of the NBA.
Always fantastic, never appreciated.
It lasts forever.
He'd work at any era.
And it's funny as I watched him.
I could see AD was just, what do you do?
His body type.
Did you ever face a guy in the league that like you think, well, he's not terribly
vertical. He's not twitchy. And there's just guys in this sport, Chandler, that were born to
score. He is so layered. He is so skilled. I mean, I, what do you, I mean, is there, I mean,
he reminds me a little bit of a younger Arvita Sabonis. I don't know if you remember him.
A little bit of a Bill, a little bit of a Bill Walton, intellect, touch. I mean, what do you
make of you? How do you defend him?
It's tough. And you can't guard him one-on-one because he's got the mass, right? He's got the size. And AD's a big dude. You can just see if you give him space, you give him time. He's going to get to his spots. He's got this unorthodox game where he can catch the ball high, shoot it high, the one leg step-backs. This spin move was just insane going baseline and dunk it on one of the best defenders in the NBA. And he's all angles, right? He's so smart. When the shot goes up, watch Yokich on the offensive glass. He just makes his way. He gets to the angle.
and he just has an act for finding the ball.
And AD played solid defense on him last night.
Like this shot at the end of the quarter here was just,
there's nothing else you could do.
You can see AD smiling.
Again, this is, even when you see double,
when you send double teams his way,
he's got the vision to find the open cutters.
You're not going to keep them off the offensive glass.
So honestly, the biggest thing with AD,
I got to give him respect too.
He stayed out of foul trouble.
He challenged him.
He matched his offensive production.
The other guy's got to step up, though, as well.
DeAngelo Russell's got to be better.
Schroder's got to be better.
Austin Reeves had a great game, but, you know,
Calvo Pope and Bruce Brown, they played better than the starting guards for the Lakers.
So there's got to be an offset there.
You know what you're going to get with LeBron.
You know what you're going to get with AD.
But the other guys really got to step up, in my opinion,
because Yokich is going to do Yokic things.
Jamal Murray's going to sprinkle in 25 points.
So it's when they're playing like this, and the thing is,
they've defended last night.
Michael Porter, I've never seen him block jump around like that.
I've never seen him get on the floor.
So this is a team now who their problem all year long was their defense.
They can score with anybody.
But when they lock in on both sides of ball, man, they really look like a contender.
Yeah, by Michael Porter is not just 6-10.
He is long and he is athletic.
I mean, he blocked a ball.
He got on top of the block.
I mean, he was like, I mean, top of the square.
He is, he is, well, he was the Gatorade Player of the Year National.
I think he was the high school player of the year in his state, Washington.
So I want to go to the Celtics heat is that I've said this about Tatum.
I love him.
We all love him.
But this generation of players is a little more thoughtful than maybe back in the 70s and 80s
where the guys were all battling for a smaller piece of pot pie.
All the guys get money now.
You get shoe money.
You get social money.
I think the young generation of players is a little more thoughtful, a little more self-aware,
maybe on social issues.
And Tatum, the knock is he doesn't have the alpha or the killer.
instinct. And I think some of that, he's not MJ. It's not his thing. But the other day,
he had a great performance. And then there's Jimmy Butler, who I could argue is, it sometimes
is the opposite of Tatum. He's actually better in great games. I don't even know how to describe it.
We were talking about this. What do you make of Butler? All of his averages go up.
I mean, you played with Harden, an amazing player. Playoffs wasn't quite the same.
guy. Butler is significantly better against better players. Did you ever play with anybody like that?
What do you make of that? No, and you know what's funny is I rolled my eyes when Jimmy was saying he
doesn't try hard during the regular season. He's just getting ready for the playoffs. But his play
this postseason has really, really been unbelievable. And I'm now a believer. The way he steps up
his game, the way he puts this team on his back, he's one of the remaining unbelievable two-way
players in this league and everything that he's been through the struggles are up and down
tyler hero going down victor let's depot going down and and just the way their whole system and
spolster and pat riley they just they find these guys like max truce like duncan robinson that nobody
wants and they become bona fide NBA players but it all starts with this guy and and he truly is he's
he's not as talented as jason taitom right he doesn't have the game doesn't have the offensive swag the sauce that
jason tennett but he's just as productive
He plays just as hard.
He's a better defender.
And he just has this will to win and to compete.
And it's funny.
You just see guys like this, he had a bad rep, right, in Minnesota.
Yeah.
He had a bad rep in Chicago.
They got rid of them.
So it's all situation, right?
And he's even gotten into it with Spoe in Miami.
Yeah.
But you want him on your team.
And he's shown that in the playoffs this year.
He's been one of the best players, if not the best player in the playoffs.
And he's willing this eight-seated team to the conference finals.
and maybe the NBA final.
So it's unbelievable what he's doing because he's not the most talented guy on the court,
but he's producing like he is.
Yeah, I think the word you used, he's a competitor.
And that is always something like some guys, I love Andrew Wiggins,
but there are times I'm like, Andrew, compete, be aggressive, you're amazing.
Jimmy Butler has less skills, doesn't have the vertical, not as twitchy,
but I think the word that you used really sums it up.
He is really competitive.
So, J-Mack and I disagree on this.
I think Draymond Green, I think for when the Splash brothers came in, it reminded me of Jerry West and Gail Goodrich, this back court that does most of your scoring.
But teams like that that can be finesse in spacing, Chandler.
Every bar needs a bouncer.
Every club needs a tough guy.
And I used to call them with Kevin Durant the skinny jeans team.
They're all these kind of fast, clever spacing shooters who's the tough guy.
Now, the Bulls didn't need a tough guy, but Rodman provided it for the pistons, the spurs.
I love Draymond.
I think he's a much more of an offensive catalyst than people give him credit for, the screening, the passing.
When you saw the punch, what do you make of that, how it plays in a locker room, a cocky young player, a veteran?
Do you think a lot of this season came down to that just screwed the locker room up?
I do.
And I think all their issues kind of stem from that, but there were clearly issues before that this situation happened.
But that's not really something you can just forget about, right?
And I know Draymond Green has that edge and that attitude.
And he's perfected this role.
Is Draymond Green one of the more talented players in the NBA?
No.
But he is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer of perfecting his role of that guy, of being the glue guy, of being that blue guy, of being that defensive-minded, tough guy, setting screens, doing all the little things that, yeah,
Yes, is it easy getting assists with Clay Thompson and with Steph Curry and her team, arguably the two best shooters of all time?
Yes, was he blessed with this situation and those two guys when he got drafted?
Yes, but you can't knock him how hard he plays, how hard he competes.
But when you get in a situation like that as a leader, and I don't care how obnoxious Jordan Poole is, how annoying he can be, how arrogant he is.
As a leader, you can't punch one of your teammates in the face like that.
And that's something that Jordan Poole is not going to forget either.
So I'm sure they acted like it was fine.
I'm sure they tried to play together.
You can see some clips that went viral this year of kind of Jordan leaving him hanging
because he's embarrassed.
And the fact that that video got out,
he got cloned,
he got punked.
And that's what Jordan Pohl was known for right now,
right,
as getting punched in the face by his teammate.
So it's definitely something that lingers.
It's definitely something that's an issue.
And they're going to have a decision to make, right?
They can't afford a max Clay Thompson extension.
They can't afford to pay Dray Montagree as much money.
as he wants, but they already decided that they gave Jordan Poole the bags.
Steph Curry's not going anywhere.
So it'll be interesting to see what they do this summer because a lot of people think that
this era of the dynasty of the lawyers is dead.
And I know they're saying it's not.
I know they think they can still compete for a championship next year.
But they didn't this year.
And they were horrendous on the road.
And they are a year older.
And they made their choice with paying Jordan Poole, who is kind of the future of this
team with the other younger guys on that roster.
So they're definitely going to have a lot of decisions to make, but that beef, that, that situation with the punch, that's not going to be forgotten.
Yeah.
Finally, I'm hearing last night, I watched Woge on the ESPN coverage, and he's saying, hey, Woj's sources are saying this is going to be the greatest prospect ever.
And I'm like, LeBron, Duncan, Shaq, Magic.
Bird, I'm like, that's a lot.
I look at him, and I think most of the great players, Duncan, Shaq, a kid.
number one picks.
They had the body.
I don't think fans have any idea of what it is like to play.
82 games.
Most of you guys are 6-8, 6-9.
This kid's 7-3 and growing.
That isn't a complete wear on your body.
I see old NBA guys.
They're all bending over.
They're all beat up.
We think football guys fall apart.
I see old NBA guys.
I'm like, you guys understand how physical the league is, how hard it is?
They're playing five times an NFL season.
terms of games and travel. So when I hear greatest prospect ever, I look at him and I think, Chandler,
7-3 with that frame, is that a 20-year frame? Do you think, are you concerned about that? And do you think
NBA veterans hear that and are going to go after him? And they're going to say, okay, kid,
let's go. Well, yes. And is it scary? Yeah, you look at last year's draft. You look at Chet Holmgren,
and that frail body type, it's scary.
And you see all the injuries that have happened this year
that have happened in the past.
And this kid, he's a freak of nature, right?
There's this mystery about him.
We've never seen something like him.
You're saying 7.3, I think he's closer to 7.6.
He can handle the ball.
He can shoot the ball.
And I know he's been playing against pros in France,
but this is a whole other level.
And you're right.
It's taxing and it is going to take,
I think it's a slow play with him.
I think he's a career.
franchise changing player. I think the valuation of the spurs just went up just by simply getting this
pick. And I think he has the potential to be the best prospect of all the time just because, again,
we've never seen anything like this. He's playing against pros. He's playing against grown men while
LeBron was playing against, you know, Ohio high school kids. So there is a different dynamic there,
but you're right. He doesn't have the build that LeBron had. He doesn't have the body that Dwight
Howard had. This is for sure NBA ready.
as like a Scoot Henderson does.
So if you look at rookie of the year next year,
I don't think Victor wins rookie of the year.
I think he's the best chance to be the best player in this draft.
But there's more ready rookies next year than this kid.
But you got to take him, right?
This is a franchise changing,
and it's a perfect situation with the Spurs.
These guys somehow are pros at tanking.
And last time they did it, they obviously get Tim Duncan.
They have pop.
They have the relationships with Tony Parker, with Boris Dio.
So this is where he wanted to go.
This is where all of France wanted him to go.
Yeah.
And there's not a better organization.
He's going to a bad team, but he's going to a great organization.
And he's going to a great historic coach and pop.
You know Tim he's going to come around and kind of help him throughout this process.
So it's definitely a perfect fit.
And it's interesting.
I can't wait to even, is he going to play Summer League?
Are they going to hold, are the Spurs going to hold other draft workouts?
Like there's a lot of, you've never really seen anything like this where it's such a for sure thing.
but it is a little scary looking at his frame and his size
because it's a different ballgame in the NBA.
Thought you made a great point, though.
In Europe, he's playing against men.
You know, LeBron was playing against kids.
So when we saw Luca come into this league,
his offensive game was so developed
because he had played against men when he was 16 years old,
and that's a great point.
Say hi to Beads for me.
As always, your money, you look great.
You've retired very well,
and love the poster behind you.
The art behind you.
Good seeing you, Chandler.
Thanks, Con. Thanks for having me.
You bet. He's fantastic. He is fantastic.
That's a really good point.
Like, I looked at Lucas film when I saw it, and I'm like, he's lumpy.
He doesn't move that well.
But he was playing against men.
And, you know, our guys play, you know, AAU.
It's against high school guys.
So those European guys come out, and they're ready to go.
They've scored against 25-year-old dudes.
I was speaking in jest about the idea of Dremond and Wembe Nama,
but you have to wonder, the spurs.
Are they going to build this slowly like they did
with Duncan drafting Manu and Parker
types? Or do they say, hey, you know what? Let's
go get a Chris Paul. Let's see if we can
get a Draymond or whoever and make a run
at the playoffs next year with this young
superstar. Think about this. If you
sent your kid overseas,
let's say your son,
one of your sons was a great soccer player
and they got drafted overseas.
What you'd want your
child to go to
is a very stable
organization. You know, if you're
his parents and you look at the Houston
Rockets and you look at the Spurs, you'd want to send your child to somewhere that's stable.
So as a parent, and I'm sure the family has talked about that.
They were rooting for the Spurs.
The Spurs, this is their business model.
We tank occasionally, then get a star, then build them.
They're international, Manu, Tony, Duncan.
This is what they do really, real.
So I think it's the perfect situation.
I was rooting for Portland because they've had such bad luck, but this is where he's going to
flourish. But, but, Colin, historically, yes, that has been the Spurs. They did strike gold with
Tim Duncan tanking to get him and then Manu and Parker. It was also 20 plus years ago.
What have you done for me lately, San Antonio Spurs? Well, look at, I looked at the rosters last night
because, you know, for the podcast, I'm talking about this. You can make a strong case. The Spurs
have the worst roster in the NBA, the worst. Okay, all those teams drafting had bad
rosters. One has a great coach. Houston has talent. They just can't get
their act together. They got immature dudes. Detroit has some talent. San Antonio Sports have like nothing.
Keldon Johnson. I like Jeremy So he had a kid out of Baylor. But like. They have cap space.
They have cap space. And a couple of interesting young and expense. Last big free agent to go to
San Antonio was. Well, that's their problem. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something.
If you're a free agent and don't consider San Antonio, now that's on you.
You think they want to spend their summer at the river walk? Huh? Oh, San Antonio is beautiful. Or New York.
San Antonio's no state tax beautiful city.
By the way, here's another thing.
Nobody wanted to go to Cincinnati.
Then they got Joe Burrow.
If you're a tight end wide receiver running back and you're like a free agent.
If you don't consider Cincinnati, you're an idiot.
NFL's a little different than NBA.
All I know is, if I was an older player, I'm Chandler Parsons.
I got two years left in my career, let's say.
And they get Victor Wenimaniama.
And Popovich says, hey, you're a grown-up.
Would you come?
Where do I sign up?
Two years left.
That's a ring chaser, not a prominent free.
By the agent to help you win.
By the way, Damien Lillard.
No, no shot.
I would take the call in a heart beat.
Damian Lillard were going to San Antonio?
So you'd have arguably the second best closing shooter in the league.
Oh, you have.
I don't.
You have to.
What's wrong with the Riverwalk?
I've never been.
I've never been to San Antonio.
What are you?
I'm saying, like free agents historically have not gone there.
No, that's their problem.
They had Tim Duncan.
They treat their players like gold.
If you don't want to go to Pittsburgh and play for the Steelers, that's your problem.
Again, that's different.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are different than the San Antonio.
No, they're not.
I think we need to do NBA to NBA, not NBA to NFL.
When it comes to that.
No, the Steelers don't fire their coach.
Great ownership.
Develop players.
No chaos.
That is the Spurs.
Now, in this sport, NFL, you don't tank.
We thought Seattle was tanking.
You don't tank in the NFL.
Even Houston last year's trying to win.
You don't tank in the NFL.
It's too much violence.
But in the basketball, but in the basketball,
a ball, you can tank, you can play guys.
So that subculture is different.
But I think to me, the Spurs are the Steelers.
When they get a star, they win Super Bowls.
They do not fire coaches, total grown-ups running the organization, legendary Hall of
Fame coaches, who, by the way, are both old school.
Tomlin's old school, Popovich is old school.
There's nothing wrong with old school.
Popovich is very much, I don't love the three.
They actively tank.
The Steelers have never tanked.
And I got, let me ask.
Nobody tanks in pro football.
Okay.
The Spurs just tanked for Wembenyama, the best prospect maybe in the history of the NBA.
Belichick has been compared to Bobavich a lot.
Belichick tanking Zonten his DNA.
If he tanked for Caleb Williams, would you rather tank it for Caleb Williams or let's do our best with Mac Jones and go for seven wins?
What I've said is, Kyler is not playing for Eric, because many people think Arizona without Kyler's the worst team in the league.
Yeah.
Worst owner, worst team, a mess.
Worse a lot of things.
Right.
So my takeaway is
Kyler's not ready to play until week 9.
If they're 1 in 8, do you say to
Kyler, listen, we're banged up, we're 1 and 8?
Take the freaking year off.
We don't want to put you in the crosshairs of this.
And then you draft Caleb Williams.
Now, that's not tanking.
That is a strategic move to protect, by the way.
You don't want Kyler getting hurt.
Because if you're going to trade him, you don't want hurt Kyler Murray.
You also don't want him playing and looking bad.
So now that's a strategic move by Arizona.
if you're 1 and 8 and the team is beat up and your O-line's all banged up and you're like,
we're not going to play Kyler and have him get hurt.
We're going to go with backups.
That is about as close to tanking as the NFL can.
When you have a sport, like hockey, it's hard to tanking hockey.
If you put a guy on the ice, go watch a hockey game on a Tuesday in Montreal.
They're playing a thousand miles an hour.
Or you get hurt.
You get hurt in football.
Basketball, I play my reserves.
I pull guys out.
I put no talent on the...
the NBA is you can call the G League you put up you know what I mean you reduce minutes you
I just don't think I don't I don't see tanking in the NFL I do think Indy when they had
Manning and they kept him out that's strategic but they were trying to win games I mean I thought
Seattle was tanking and look at them I mean the NFL I think we thought like Houston they
won't Houston took the chiefs to overtime
This league NFL, the margins are tiny.
In the NBA, the margins are vast.
I mean, Denver's talent and the Spurs talent.
It's a hundred miles apart.
It's a Grand Canyon gap.
In the NFL, the best team chiefs and the Texans go to overtime.
So the margins in the NFL are here.
The margins in the NBA are gigantic.
Some teams just have no star players, like a lot of teams.
Or they have one, and they're Paulo Bencaro of Orlando.
They're 21 years old.
Like San Antonio, who has no.
No talent at all.
Now, the league's going to want the Spurs on TV a lot with Wembe Njama, push it into Europe,
the product, right?
They're going to be unwatchable outside of Wambiama.
They've got to get dudes.
What I mean?
Outside.
By the way, Iowa Women's Basketball this year had one superstar.
It set records.
They went to the final four.
Wembe Nama will be lucky to get 30 wins with this roster.
25, I'm sorry, 25.
Watch the Spurs make moves.
Another Spurs became interesting in the offseason.
All of a sudden, it's like, well.
Can they make a move for Chris Paul?
I'm buying the ticket.
I'm going to buy the NBA pass for Wemignan.
Just for Victor. Big Vic.
Do you follow him on the gram yet?
I don't follow anybody on the gram.
Not me. I know. I've noticed that.
Trust me. I'm waiting for the follow.
First of all, I don't call it the gram.
It's called IG.
Can you call it IG?
No, I call it Instagram.
I'm respectful of its title.
Respect.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so...
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years.
from black people in American history.

Artificial turf on football fields causes 32% more non-contact knee injuries.
Let's get that turf out of here.
Players should be playing on grass.
Half the stadiums now are turf.
Go to pennington.com slash flip the turf.

J-MAC with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd.
Line news.
Feels good when I hype players on this show and you're like,
ah, come on, get out of here.
And then they go off in games.
Jamal Murray, how about last night's performance?
He played very well.
Just shredding Dennis Schrooter.
DeAngelo Russell had a chance.
Russell ended up getting benched for like the last 30 minutes.
He couldn't stay with Murray.
Murray actually came in questionable.
Was battling some injury.
Was limited in workouts, but it didn't matter.
He dropped 31 and Michael Malone, the Nuggets coach,
raved about the performance.
Once that jump in.
Paul goes off, he's able to shake it off and perform at a high level, thank goodness.
Sometimes Marvel left the kid because he hasn't done anything the last couple of days.
You know, I mean, he was, he came to listen to the film work, the personnel, but, you know,
once we got to practice, you know, we wanted him to go home and get some rest to try to get
anything we could out of him.
Very good.
Better than Devin Booker?
Same.
Same.
Oh, you're putting him on the same level now.
Well, I think Booker and Murray are very, very good players, A-minus players.
Murray's problem defensively.
LeBron was picking on him.
He picked up a bunch of fouls.
He's just smaller than Book.
Book is like 6-5 and Murray can't really defend,
but some of these shots he's hitting.
Like, that's a bit of a prayer.
Well, Booker's not a great defensive player either.
A lot of these shooting guards are just...
That's okay.
You know, Michael is the exception.
I mean, Michael and Kobe.
Well, Clay Thompson, although not that good, was a very good defender.
Before the injuries, Clay was a very good defense.
But Jamal Murray's an absolute guy.
He's a very, very good number two in this league.
No question.
He's more gifted than Jalen Brown offensively,
not as good defensively.
Jalen Brown kind of plays a three-o-wing.
That's an interesting.
Who would I rather have?
Well, I would rather have Murray because Murray's a better score.
He's a better shooter.
See, I think the defense, you opened up the show, I think, mentioning defense.
We don't talk a lot of defense.
Well, that's because you can't stop the offense now.
It's just too good.
It's too good.
It's same with the NFL.
Remember the Eagles had an amazing defense, and Patrick Mahomes is like torching him in the second half.
No, no, I mean.
Can't stop him.
The Chiefs literally torched the Eagles and the Niners defenses.
They couldn't stop them in the second half.
Belichick now has been rendered a 500 coach.
You can't, and it's in the NBA.
You can't stop anybody.
It's a global game now.
I mean, I always laugh at these people who glamorize the Pacer's Nick series, the 30 for 30.
You had one elite shooter in the whole damn series, Reggie Miller.
And by the way, Jamal Murray is a better player than Reggie Miller.
Reggie Miller, he wasn't creating his own shot.
No.
Awesome catch and shoot guy, incredible.
Jamal Murray's taking anyone off the bounce and create.
And people don't want to hear that because, oh, Reggie Miller hit so many clutches.
shots. When you're watching the talent on the floor last night, Michael Porter was like the high school
player of the year. He had back injuries. He had surgery, yeah, yeah. But I mean, like, Michael
Porter is there, he's there like three. He's their, I mean, he's not Yokic, he's not Murray.
He's their third most talented guy. Michael Porter was like a prodigy when he was like 14.
And then there's LeBron and AD. There's like so much talent now. It's weird. You mentioned those
Pacers teams with Reggie Miller. Like, think about that they had like the day
brothers, Antonio Davis, Dale Davis,
like they're not starting on any team now.
Rick Smiths. He's not cracking the starting
center job, probably for like 25
teams in the league. Rick Smith would come off the bench
for both the Lakers. He'd be a bench player for
the Lakers. He's not going ahead of Bam out of bio,
right? I don't even
know if he starts over Horford or Robert Williams in Boston.
Like, these 90s players were good.
He probably starts over Robert Williams, but he
doesn't start for the other three teams.
Yeah. Can you imagine getting put in
a pick and roll on the perimeter if you're Rick Smith?
Like, you can't guard anybody.
People just don't want to hear it.
Like, the current basketball is the best the NBA's ever been, the best.
There's no discussion about it.
I'm watching that offense.
I'm watching the game last night.
These are, the Lakers are a great defensive team.
And Nuggett shot 55%.
It's like 72 in the first half.
And the Lakers are a dominant defensive team.
Shut down teams.
Number one defense in the league.
Couldn't stop Denver.
Next up, NBA coached carousel is getting kind of interesting,
Cowherd, in the last few days, Sixers Can Dock
of her's, sons dumped Monty Williams.
Remember, Bucks won a title a few years ago.
Mike Booneholzer got dropped.
Yep.
Nick Nurse got dusted in Toronto.
Five vacancies, some big names.
Look at this list of names looking for jobs.
J.J. Reddick on there?
Mark Jackson, the announcer who hasn't coached in a while.
I would hire J.J. Reddick in one second.
I'm surprised Becky Hammond made the list.
She's going through some stuff.
She just got in trouble in the WNBA.
Yeah.
I would hire Kenny Atkinson, probably number one.
I would hire Nick Nurse and JJ Reddick very quickly.
I would hire Monty Williams again very quickly.
By the way, Frank Vogel, it's funny about Vogel.
Frank Vogel's what the NBA deals with.
They fire good coaches.
Vogel took an Indiana team that just had Paul George
and no other elite scores and gave the Heedles fit
with Roy Hibbert averaging 10 a game in the post.
What do you think the Sixers do?
First of all, is that a good job?
I think they're going to go get Nick Nets.
Nurse. They're going to go from a culture guy to an adjustment guy. And they're going to get rid of
Harden. So I think Nick Nurse is going to be their guy. Rank those jobs, those openings.
If you had the choice, where would you go? Well, I get you. That's tough because the bucks and sons.
I would go bucks. Because I get Yonness in his prime. A lot of uncertainty with that roster.
Lopez a free agent, Middleton. No, I get Yon. No, no, isn't. You got Yonis. I get Yonis,
I got Yonis. I get Yonis, Drew Holiday and Chris Middleton. Well, we'll see with Middleton.
They're not going to pay.
Okay, so you say Sun's second?
Yeah, Embed is hard for me.
You know, I like Philadelphia.
I like a lot about Philadelphia.
Phoenix, I get two-star.
But if Kevin Durant twists his ankle tomorrow, how good of a job is that?
So I would probably say second 76ers.
Oh, 70-Sucers over the Suns?
Well, my point being is they haven't a...
It's close.
Embed's going to play for five more years.
K.D. could be out by the end of next year.
He could just get...
He'd be like, I'm done, I got hurt.
If A.D.
KD got hurt again.
Like, serious.
Well, I think he would retire.
I think he would be like, I got my money.
I got my titles.
I'm done.
And B's not going to retire anytime soon.
All right.
Let's move on.
Finally, NFL.
Green Bay Packers, your favorite quarterback this year?
Jordan Love, obviously,
taken over for Aaron Rogers.
Love has been riding the bench for three years.
They did trade up to draft him yesterday.
Packers' offensive coordinator,
Adam Stenevich.
talked about what the offense will look like.
Obviously, he doesn't have the playing experience that Aaron had.
But from a playbook standpoint, I think pretty much all of it's on the table.
He's been around for three years, like you said, and, you know,
really attacked it.
Even last year, you could see him coming to his own.
It felt a lot more comfortable.
So this year, he's really hitting it on all cylinders.
So I'm really excited to kind of see what he's going to bring.
Well, plus, I think he's a little more mobile than Aaron is at this point.
So I would actually, I put a few RPO's in there.
He can move.
The kid can move.
I'm not really familiar with this Adam character.
He's your new OC?
This Adam character?
He's the new OC.
He was the offensive line coach.
It looks like he played some college football.
Do you have to know who a coordinator is?
Bro, there's a lot of change.
You got a Hall of Famer out the door.
Now you've got a guy on the bench for three years and now you're out with.
Do I have Christian Walsh?
Watson there? Do I have...
Yeah, the second year
wide receiver, Christian Watson, is returning.
Do I have Aaron Jones there?
Yes, Aaron Jones is still.
Is David Boktiari there?
Yeah, he's the one who called it a rebuild.
Is Matt Lafleur there?
Overrated Mat Lafleur? Yes, he is in the building.
I'm just stammering here, but this feels like a six-point team.
That's your offensive coordinator?
What's wrong with him?
He just sold me some pool equipment the other day.
I thought he did not know he was the O.C. of the Packers.
I'm stunned.
I don't know, Calhurt.
I don't mean to bang on the Packers.
I know we have a large audience.
You said, who's this guy?
He's a coach.
I don't know half the coordinators in the league, and I'm America.
You know the good coordinators.
Yesterday, you said Kellemore was one of the best in the league.
Well, yes.
You don't know this Adam guy.
This guy's his first year.
Nobody knew who you were 15 minutes ago.
Nobody knows who I am now.
Nobody knows right now.
Who the hell I am.
Sorry, Adam.
Good luck this year, buddy.
They're going to not, you're going to win more than six games.
I don't know who he is.
In the basement.

game for your chance to win big.
Like Miami getting all those points,
eight and a half is disrespectful to Miami.
Celtics win, I'll take the eight and a half points.
Celtics 11, Miami 100.
Jalen Brown, 29 points.
Speaking of the Celtics, former Celtic,
Ray Allen named his all-time NBA starting lineup.
I wish I was joking. I'm not.
He says I'd make Michael, Jordan, Magic, Larry, Shack Akeem,
LeBron would be my sixth man.
Great, two centers.
Let's see, LeBron holds every record in the NBA virtually.
Let's have him coming off the bench.
I tell young broadcasters, tune out the noise.
Don't listen.
Steph Curry is wholesome, unbelievable, philanthropic, great dad, great husband, great teammate,
got critics everywhere.
Tune out the noise.
I love Larry Bird.
I love Magic Johnson.
LeBron's a better score, a better athlete.
and a better defender than both.
And it ain't particularly close.
Jealousy and envy rules the internet and rules our life.
Here's what old guys don't like about LeBron.
He's completely controlled his career.
Players got traded, moved.
He's strategic.
He's mobile.
Even see great players wearing silly uniforms.
LeBron, nope.
His hometown calves, the Miami Heat, back to his hometown calves won a title in the Lakers.
He's controlled every single move.
MJ and Magic, as great as they were, were underpaid while they played.
Bird fell apart early.
Shaq got traded multiple times.
LeBron's greater, played longer, and controlled his entire career.
And because of that, there's some animosity.
LeBron averaged more points this year.
this year than Larry Bird did in all but one of his years.
Well, the game was a lot different back then.
Yeah, you got to score on much better athletes now.
Well, the offense now, oh, really?
The Lakers average 117 points this year.
Do you know how many the Bird title teams averaged?
112, 114, 3 points less?
It's not that different.
You're greater, you're great.
In fact, I'd say years ago, the game wasn't nearly as athletic.
It certainly wasn't as global and international.
It was easier to score.
Yes, there was a hand check.
Yes, you could tackle.
It didn't stop MJ.
It didn't stop the great player.
Great players scored in the 60s, 70s, 80s, they scored today.
And LeBron scored more than Byrd all but one season.
And he's scoring more than Byrd in year 20 in all but one season.
Come on.
Let's stop.
I love Larry Bird.
LeBron's better offensively,
defensively, better athlete, better body.
Larry shoots a better jumper.
And that's something, but it's not everything.
Our number three next.
