Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day
and head writer Streeter Seidel
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel

you may be watching or listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
Albert Breer bought him to the hour. A lot of NFL stuff. A lot of rumors on the draft.
Stuff happening with Arizona, with Jets, C.J. Stroud. Will Levis? Some good news on Will
Lewis, your guy? Bathroom selfie, Lovis? There's a lot to like. Mom went to Yale. He's a great
student, big arm.
He didn't play with anybody
at Kentucky. Last two years, they had garbage
around him.
The best players were on defense, so we'll
see. There's something there. I mean, he's got
an arm. Well, two years ago he had the
Robinson, the kid who plays for the Giants
now, and he put up good numbers. It looked sharp.
Last year was on the struggle bus
often, but the tools are there.
Let's see what Brewer has to say about Levis.
You may change your tune.
No, I'm not anti-Will Levis.
But I do think, by the time the season
ends until the draft, I can change my opinion based on new information.
I hated the selfie stuff.
Hated it.
By the way, there was stuff on Johnny Mansell I warned you about.
Baker and James Winston and Cam.
But let's stay off Cam, because Cam was pretty good.
And everybody kind of knew Cam was, loved Cam.
But James Winston, I warned you.
Johnny Mansell, I warn you.
Baker Mayfield, I warn you.
Drew Locke, I warned you.
After I started watching him really, I don't watch him much in college.
Four for four.
I'm just saying.
A lot of college kids are getting set to graduate, and they always come to advice, like, seeking, what do I do?
So should number one be just delete bathroom selfies from all your social media?
It's like a dumb guy move, and he's a smart kid.
Like, don't do that.
I mean, people go to Twitter and think they're invisible.
No, no, no.
Your bosses, employers are watching it.
Like, you're not invisible on Twitter.
It matters.
It shouldn't, but it does.
All right, so I'm going to go through.
Let's just lay it out.
That's what we do, J-Mack.
We give opinions.
Hold us accountable.
I'm going to give you the why and who I'm picking in the NBA playoff.
So let's start with the East.
Okay.
I think Miami is going to beat the Bulls,
and then the bucks in the first round will beat the heat.
The heat have the worst scoring offense in the NBA.
Points are hard, and you've got Drew Holiday.
Janice and Brooke Lopez elite defenders.
I just don't think Miami could score enough
to beat Milwaukee so they would win the first round.
Cavs Knicks, Julius Randall may miss the start of that series,
and I just think, again, buckets.
Cavs can shoot the three, they can drive and score.
The Knicks are allowing 13 made threes a game,
and again, the Cavs can shoot the three,
top 12 in the league.
Caves got too many buckets here.
76ers Nets, I don't think it's terribly close.
The 76ers have three different guys scoring 20, Maxie, Hardin, Embed.
And so I think they'll vanquish the nets pretty quickly.
Celtics over the Hawks, again, I don't think that's going to be highly competitive.
I think you get a reasonably well-rested Boston team that plays real defense.
I feel like it's a lot of Trey Young for the Hawks.
Hawks are all in three against the Celtics this year.
So I don't think it's a terribly great matchup for Atlanta.
All right, we go back to the top.
Milwaukee, second round now.
Milwaukee, I would take Bucks over the Cabs,
mostly because one is the oldest team in the league
and one is one of the youngest teams in the league,
and I think age and wisdom matters.
By the way, the Bucks are 42 and 12
when Yannis, Drew Holiday, and Brooke Lopez,
their three best offenders play.
So I think the buckles will be harder to come by.
you just got a bigger, older, stronger team, and they'll kind of power their way.
Cleveland will win a game, though.
Cleveland will be fun to watch.
76ers Celtics.
I think Boston dominated him in the regular season.
The only game they didn't beat Philadelphia was when Jalen Brown and Robert Williams didn't play.
And so Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, highest scoring duo in the NBA.
They could both hit their free throws late.
They'll both defend.
I kind of know what I'm getting.
Boston a lot. And then you get the series, I think we all understand. I think it's an interesting
series. I think Boston matches up pretty well with them if Robert Williams is healthy. That's a
real question because playoff basketball is more physical and it's more physically demanding.
So in the conference finals, Janus averaged 29 a game against Boston. But again, they held
Robert Williams out a lot this year. They bubble wrapped him to get him healthy.
for the playoffs. This is a go-either-way series. The winner of this series, I believe,
wins the NBA championship. I feel like Milwaukee's just got a guy or two more that can hit a
basket, but I think those are the two best teams in the NBA as currently constructed. I do think
Milwaukee is going to have to make some real changes after this year. They're getting old and
slow really quickly. Chris Middleton is not the same player, but between Drew.
Janice, Brooke Lopez,
Connington,
I just think
they've just got enough guys,
Joe Ingalls, Jay Crowder,
they'll just be able to lean
on a couple of more guys to get baskets.
And I'll take Milwaukee.
But they get old.
Let's go to the West.
Nuggets, I think the Thunder are going to beat the T-Wolves.
That is my guess.
But I think it doesn't matter, the Nuggets are going to beat
whoever they play.
Listen, the nuggets are the most efficient
offense in the league. And a lot of that's just Yokic. I mean, he's shooting 60%. The thunder of the youngest
team, not the most efficient, and the T-Wolves have drama. So it doesn't really matter who they
play. I think Denver is well-coached, highly efficient. I think a tad overrated, but they'll win
the series. Sons against the Clippers, I don't think it's a great matchup for the Clippers.
I think, let's be honest about the Clippers. They're under 500 with the Clippers. They're under 500
without Paul George.
If they had Paul George
at a different series,
I think it goes seven.
But the sons are 8-0 with KD.
He is exactly what they needed.
Length defensively,
a shot maker who doesn't need the ball in his hands.
So I think Phoenix wins and convincingly.
With Paul George, different series.
It could go seven and go either way.
Kings Warriors, it'll be feisty,
but you're talking about a team that never gets to the playoffs
and one that gets there every year,
six of the last eight years to the finals.
I think the Warriors now,
their biggest issue is how many minutes do you get from Wiggins and Peyton?
I do think Sacramento probably wins the opener,
but I get the better coach, the better overall experience roster.
I think officiating will be a factor in the series
because I think the way for the Warriors to win is just keep throwing bodies
and pushing around Deerrin Fox and wear him down.
And I think over the course of the series,
Deeran Fox will get worn down a little and the Warriors will prevail.
and then Lakers Grizzlies.
Go either way, I'd probably take the Lakers.
I've said before, I thought they'd beat Minnie,
and I think they'll win their first series.
The Grizzlies are the second youngest team in the playoffs.
They've had some drama this year.
They're front court.
They don't have Stephen Adams or Clark.
And by the way, the Lakers are 14 and 1.
LeBron's 14 and 1 in his career in the first round.
He's really good in the first round.
And by the way, especially as he ages,
that's the freshest LeBron James,
the first round.
So I'll take the Lakers.
Then we go to the second round.
It's going to be a good series.
I would take the Sons over the Nuggets.
When KD plays, they allow 105 points a game.
That's the number one scoring defense in the league.
Do you know that?
People forget how good of a defender, Kevin Durant is.
So when he's played so far this season, you know you get offense.
You know you got a good coach.
You may have bench concerns.
but I think they're a better defensive team than Denver,
and they're equally offensive with Kevin Durant, Booker,
and so I would take the Sons.
But it won't be easy.
Denver will win a game or two in Denver.
Warriors, Lakers won't be close.
They'll just throw, that's not going to work.
Austin Reeves against Peyton, Poole, Clay.
They're going to throw so many bodies.
And you've got DeAngelo Russell and Reeves.
One guy's undrafted, one's flaky.
You're going to need LeBron to play 40 minutes in these.
games. I think the Lakers could split the first couple of games. They just don't have the depth of
players. Eventually, the Warriors just throw too many bodies, too many three-point shooters. Lakers
don't really have one elite three-point shooter on the team. The Warriors are the best three-point
shooting team in the league. Conference finals, Suns Warriors, this is epic. I don't even know who I like.
I'm going to say, because I'm going to stick with what I believe, I just don't know how the Wiggins thing
and the Gary Payton taking minutes from Jordan Poole thing's going to work out in the long.
locker room. I just don't know. I think the Warriors are good at that. I think I would take the
sons in this game. You know, sons were good against the Warriors. I think with Katie, they match up well.
I just think the Warriors, you can't be that bad on the road and have that many injuries and
insert people suddenly in the playoffs and get to the finals. I just don't think it's going to work.
I think they're going to meet their ceiling with the Phoenix Suns. And then I think
Phoenix, Milwaukee, I would love to see KD win in Phoenix.
I think it's a great, great final.
I have a bad vibe that either Chris Paul, KD, I just, there's a health thing there.
By the way, the Bucks are the oldest team in the league, and I think the Sons are the second
oldest team in the West.
So if you look at my predictions, it's a lot of old veteran teams, coaches, and players.
All right.
What say you?
the peanut gallery to chime in.
Chime in.
I love how the Nuggets may win a game or two against the Sun.
So disrespectful to Yokic.
I like your East.
I think I have every single pick except I have Celtics over bucks.
Certainly possible.
The West is, West is ridden with landmines?
Like, is AD going to stay healthy?
Are the Suns going to stay healthy?
Andrew Woolham.
Andrew Wiggins has been out for two months?
That's my question.
He's just going to show up and be fine?
No.
and my thing is, do they play them like,
do they play them eight minutes a half again?
They play Cominga and Wiggins.
They both get like 20 minutes and they split time.
Or does Steve Kergo, no, I'm going to go to the guy
that was great in the finals and just not play Cominga.
How does that play in the locker room?
So my thing is, I think the first round for the Warriors
is way more dangerous Sacramento than the second round,
potentially the Lakers.
Lakers just don't have enough shooters.
They can't match them shot for shot.
Who's slowing down Anthony Davis inside?
Is it Kavana Luni or Draymond?
Oh, yeah, Draymond Green has a chance against Anthony.
I think the East is more interesting because if you told me that Robert Williams plays every game against the Bucks, they got a real shot.
I thought you were a guy who it's like a stars.
It's all about the stars and the Alas.
And Jonas and Drew Halliday aren't stars?
They are, but you're saying it's about Robert Williams.
Is he going to play?
No, I think as constituted, they have basically.
kept Robert Williams off the floor and still been good.
But there is no question.
That's a different team with Robert Williams.
You get nothing at the rim.
I'll also add, the Celtics were down 3-2 and had to go to Milwaukee last year for game 6.
And Jason Tatum was unstoppable.
They have nobody that can guard him.
I love Pat Conantin, Notre Dame legend.
Drew Holiday, like, he has no chance against Jason Tatum.
No chance.
The best series, there's going to be two series that are going to be great potentially.
So I'm rooting to see him.
Milwaukee, Boston's going to be great.
it's go either way.
I just think there's a shot maker to
Moore with Milwaukee,
and then the Sons and the Warriors.
I don't think one of those teams is getting there.
I don't think both.
There's so many questions around both of them, Colin.
I know.
That's what makes the drama great.
So give me the nuggets coming out of the West.
Instantly ready to go to commercial.
Yokic.
It's not impossible.
They're healthy.
Well, they are.
And Denver's hard to play all that.
Jamal Murray.
Oh, I can't wait for.
Can you give me a Jamal Murray?
I love him.
You got to watch a guy's game.
I see.
I have NBA pass.
I watch the games.
Yeah.
Just so talented.
He's like Zach Levine without the flashy dunks.
See what I'm getting at?
Zach Levine?
Can we talk more about him this hour?
No, let's not.
One more herd?

What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.

Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.

To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
to look back at it on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hi, welcome back.
Albert Breers around the corner, but first, J-MAC with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, I believe we're going to start with some breaking news in the NFL.
The Washington commanders have been sold, according to a CBS Sports Report.
Sportico also has it.
The commanders were sold for $6 billion, and the new owner is a group led by Josh Harris.
You may know him.
He also owns the Sixers and the New Jersey Devils.
Some of the numbers are trickling out, Colin.
So Dan Snyder bought the then Redskins in 1999 for $750 million.
He's now selling them for $6 billion in less than 25 years.
Yeah, I mean, he's largely ruined the franchise.
Yes, he has done it.
When I was a kid growing up, the Packers were not on TV in the 80s.
It was 70s and 80s.
It was a lot of Washington.
This was an absolute rock-soled franchise.
They are what Philadelphia is today, what the 49ers are today.
Didn't matter the quarterback.
It could be Billy Kilmer got to a Super Bowl.
Joe Thaisman got to a Super Bowl.
Mark Rippin got to a Super Bowl.
Doug Williams.
It didn't matter the quarterback.
quarterback was. Washington just got to Super Bowls. Joe Gibbs was the foundation of a lot of that. Yeah. And then
Snyder bought him and he ruined it. Ego, uh, meddling, um,
clue, general cluelessness. However, a bad owner. He's a bottom five owner, arguably in league
history. Congrats on getting rich. Yeah. And by rich, that's a 700% increase. Yeah. He's a good,
he's a 24 years. He's good at getting rich. He's not good at treating people well or running a
pro franchise. The guy in Phoenix got rich, bad guy. Get him out of the league. It's a
privilege to own a franchise. Donald Sterling, get out of here. Mard's shot, no good. You always have
one or two. Every league's got a couple of bums who, you know, dad gave it to them or they're good
at making money, but pro sports is different. You've got to treat the employees, they're public
facing businesses. So your nonsense gets, you're being covered by journal. You can own a lot of waste
management companies and a lot of restaurants. Nobody cares. You can be a hedge fund guy,
trade paper. Nobody cares. You own a franchise. You own a franchise. You
are part of the community. You are watched and covered diligently. Your personality, how you treat
people matters. Snyder, to me, is not good enough to be an NFL owner. He is not up to the
standard the league should have. So I grew up in the D.C. area and the weather this week is incredible.
So all my buddies are texting me the waterfront, which is the D.C. area downtown near Georgetown
University, it's just going to be going off. And here's why people are excited. Because Harris is a smart guy.
What did he do in Philadelphia with the Sixers?
He hired Daryl Morey.
Darry was part of this, you know, trust the process and all this stuff.
Washington is going to get good pretty quick.
And the most fascinating thing will be, do they make a move on Lamar Jackson with the new old?
Is he coming in and saying, we're coming to the table, we're not messing around with the Sam Howell and stuff?
Pivot to an offensive coach.
Ron Rivera, I like him, but he does not understand what's happened to the league.
The idea that you would go with Sam Howell and Jacob,
Kobe Brissette, are you watching the league? This is not 1994. So you got to pivot to an
offensive coach eventually. You got to get the quarterback right. Lamar may be the answer.
But when I was a kid watching games, I remember this Tom Brookshire, Pat Summerall with the
announcers back then. They had like a 30-year waiting list for tickets to Washington.
You could not get a ticket to Washington. It was the loudest stadium in the league.
It was, I mean, it was the franchise. I've told
the story before. When I was a kid, I grew up in Washington State. I'm like seven, eight years
old, six, seven years old. I thought that was our Washington. So my first favorite pro football
team, Seattle didn't have one. It was 1972. The Seahawks didn't come to like 76, 77. So my first
favorite team was the Washington at the time Redskins. Why? Because they would show that the nation's
capital during the games on like CBS. And as a kid, we grew up in the coast of Washington. When we drove
to Seattle, you drive through Olympia, and you see the State House.
Well, I thought as a kid, when I'm in the back seat of my mom or dad's car, that was,
so I started loving sports, Washington had George Allen as a coach, Billy Kilmer's a
quarterback.
Riggins the running back, or was that?
No, no, no, it was, uh, Diron, Talbert, Chris Hamburger, Pat Fisher.
I think Charlie Taylor was a receiver.
Larry Brown was a running back.
I go way, this is way free hogs.
So I'm a kid.
This was my first favorite team.
I thought it was Washington State, not that Washington,
because I'd drive by in the backseat of the car with my parents.
If they're going to Olympia or Seattle for shopping, you'd see the cap of them.
And so I think young people don't understand it.
This was a bedrock franchise.
The Cowboy Washington game was easily the biggest rivalry in the league.
Nobody taught Packers, Bears.
It was Steelers Raiders.
Steelers Raiders was a big rivalry.
And Washington, Dallas.
I think you had a riff one time.
NFC East, if you look at the teams, they're all in the Northeast corridor where there's that big
population hubs. And then there's the Dallas Cowboys. Because I think your story was Jerry Jones or
somebody wanted to get in there with the blue bloods and, you know, he did a pretty nice job
of it. All right. Next story, Russell Wilson entering year two with the Broncos. And now he's
got Sean Payton. Well, Kishon Johnson believes that it could spell trouble for Russell
to be working under Sean Payton. Here's what Kishon had to say. He could certainly fix
him, and if he doesn't, it won't be on Sean Payton.
It'll be on Ross Wilson. I know Sean very, very, very well.
I can guarantee you that if it don't go the way he wants it to, despite salary cap ramifications
and whatnot, there's going to be some major changes at QB in 2024 for the Broncos.
I think Keishon's right. There's a reason they brought in Jared Stiddem, and we all went,
what are you doing? Like, Sean Payton is going to win, regardless of where you put him.
And so this, Sean Payton now runs the franchise. Last year, Russell,
Wilson ran it, and now
Sean Payton runs it. Now,
I do think they're going to work pretty well.
I do.
But listen, you say to yourself,
well, how do you get out of the contract? You don't.
What you do is try to spread out
Russell Wilson's contract over three or four years,
and you have to hit on a quarterback in the first round.
And if you do, and you're paying him nothing for three years,
that helps.
Now, my prediction would be, if you look at Russell Wilson's numbers,
We're showing our television audience this.
They were 30th and virtually everything offensively.
They were terrible.
Is it reasonable to think they'll get to 15 to 12, 15 range on those with pay?
That's more than reasonable.
Okay, so if you get to 12 to 15 with that defense, that feels like a playoff team to me.
And I would say top 10 is within reach.
Yeah, but they're not going to be Kansas City.
They're not going to be Cincinnati.
But Russell Wilson had a top 10 offense in Seattle for like five, six, seven, eight years.
And that was with a defensive coach.
So if you have this first or second smartest offensive coach after Amst.
Andy Reed in the league. I mean, there's the three or four guys, Peyton Reed, Shanahan McVeigh.
If you have one of the smartest guys, can the Broncos be the 12th best offense in the league?
I think they absolutely can. And with that defense, Sean's team's role is good situationally.
You're a playoff team. The schedule needs to break their way. I hope they have some cupcakes early, you know, to iron out stuff.
Because remember last year, their first game was against Seattle, the revenge game. They lose it.
The coach looks totally inept. Remember the Monday? Was it Monday night football? I'm pretty sure it was.
and it was all downhill from there.
Final story, LeBron and the Lakers,
they had that gritty overtime went over the wolves Tuesday.
Now they take on the gris in the first round.
LeBron had 30 and 10.
And I remember this, being in crypto,
as soon as the final buzzer sounded,
LeBron and AD both put their hands on their knees.
They were bent over, exhausted.
LeBron played 45 minutes.
They were gassed.
Dremont Green, of course, noticed.
And here's what Dremont Green,
your guy had to say about LeBron.
Brian made some very uncharacteristic passes tonight, and he looked gassed at times.
I was very shocked at that.
So a couple of those passes, Bronn made.
So we'll see how that plays out.
Again, this is another young team that's getting up and down.
And ultimately, you never got a question whether Bron is in shape or not, but he did look a little tired.
Yeah, LeBron shouldn't play 40 minutes at this point.
We play 45.
Yeah, that's just not.
And they were very relying on him down the street.
Those were big, intense playoff minutes down the stretch.
By the way, did you notice, again, don't take just the wrong way, Laker fans, when
Anthony Edwards went up to check LeBron, LeBron could not get around him.
Ant Edwards locked up LeBron on the – LeBron couldn't drive dribble by him.
Now, Anthony Edwards was like 21 years older, whatever.
But that was a sign like, geez, I mean, what's going to happen against Dylan Brooks,
who's like a pretty jacked dude and loves to get physical?
Memphis Lakers is a six or seven game series.
That's not a good. Nobody's winning that thing quite.
Don't be surprised if Memphis comes out of the gate and they're getting real overly physical.
I don't want to say cheap shots, but, you know, some message sending.
Well, you know what they want to do.
They want to run up and down the floor.
They want to move up.
They want the pace be very, very fast.
They have depth and they have youth.
So Memphis wants to get this.
They want to play a track meet.
Where are the Lakers out?
And the Lakers, in the first couple games will be fine.
But can the Lakers withstand a track meet for game five, game six, game seven?
That'll be interesting.
Yeah, the series will not look the same at the end as it does at the beginning.
The Lakers want to seize control very early of this series.
They can't give any games away.
They want to put doubt what you want to do with a young team like Cleveland or Memphis.
Make them doubt themselves.
The old teams can lose the first game.
They don't care.
Warriors lose on the road.
It doesn't matter.
They're fine.
Sacramento, you go in if you're Golden State and you win that first game, you put doubt in the king's head.
The series could be over.
Could be over.
Now, one other thing to watch, I looked at some numbers.
Jaron Jackson's fouls are way up against the Lakers this season.
He struggles against Anthony Davis.
They can play him off the floor.
There is no depth in the front court behind him.
This has to be an Anthony Davis series.
I know he's always grabbing something, knee, shoulder.
He's always hurt.
Anthony Davis manned up in this series and plays Lakers a winner.
J. Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
All right, Albert Brear lead content guy from
Monday morning quarterback is joining us.
Latest article, you talk about a variety of things.
We talked Jets earlier.
Woody Johnson owns the Jets.
Mark Murphy runs the Packers.
They haven't really been vocal over the last couple of weeks.
There's a lot of people, let's say you're Green Bay.
I'll throw this at you.
And you wrote about this in your article.
Your Green Bay.
You'd like to get a pick before the draft to give Jordan Lovemore help.
But they need a tight end or receiver and edge rusher.
Pretty good roster.
pretty good roster
quarterbacks in-house
is there a chance
this thing doesn't get
finalized till after the draft
I would say
like 90%
this gets done like by the end
of draft weekend
and I really think at this point
Colin and I've said this to you
before I think this is on the doorstep
and it's been close for a while
now the communication isn't
what it was like before and during
the league meeting
but the relationships are still there
and I've said to you how important I think those are.
And I think we're really at the point now where this comes down to optics, right?
Like it's the Jets trying to prevent or protect against the potential like Russell Wilson and Denver
scenario and the Packers trying to manage perception on what they're getting back for an all-time
great, maybe the greatest player in the history of their franchise.
So I think like right now, like they've got agreement on the 2020-3 pick.
Like I think it's going to be either 42nd or 43rd overall.
The question is what the conditions are in the 24 pick and kind of how you dress that up and how that looks.
And do you give the Jets protections over the sort of scenario where Rogers gets hurt or there's a downturn?
So you put a playoff condition on that or a Super Bowl condition on that pick.
So it's only a one in those scenarios.
So you know it's going to be, say, 20th pick or lower.
You know, and then I think on the other end, like it's the Packers coming away from this feeling like they did okay.
And how can you make sure that?
how can you assure Mark Murphy that he can go to his fan base and say, I got fair value here?
There's also on top of that, the idea that maybe Rogers only plays a year.
Now, the Jets think he's going to play too, but maybe he only plays a year.
Like, how do you protect against that?
And, like, you know, the Jets and Packers have talked about that, and maybe a tying
a 20-25 pick to that.
So there are some moving parts here, but I think everybody's sort of in the same area
on what it's going to take to get it done.
And now, I think it's sort of down to managing optics for both teams.
And as you know, like, that comes down.
down to the decision-making of the people, the highest, like, places in the organization.
And for the Jets, that's the owner, Woody Johnson, for the Packers, that's the president, Mark Murphy.
Okay, so now there are stories leaking on C.J. Stroud.
Mike Lombardi, former exec, I hear he's not easy to coach.
I don't see a lot of juice.
I think he's a stable guy.
I think he's like Jared Goff, not quite as talented, a thrower of the football,
but sits in the pocket, doesn't move a ton.
needs the pocket to be comfortable mostly.
Let's say the Cowboys don't draft a quarterback.
Is that a possibility?
By the way, they need a lot of pieces.
So Texans.
If they don't draft Texans,
Texans don't draft a quarterback number two.
Is that a possibility?
Yeah, I think it is.
And I think you can look at the history of the two guys in charge.
Nick Casario has been in the league for 23 years.
He's never been part of a team this drafts of a quarterback higher than
62nd overall. That was Jimmy Garoppolo with the Patriots in 2014. Domeico Ryan's was with the
team that drafted a quarterback high in the first round, traded three first round picks to get there.
That was Trey Lance. Damico Ryans went to three NFC championship games as a coach with two
quarterbacks, not named Trey Lance. So these guys have seen it done different ways,
and I think they both have confidence that they can build different ways and that they don't
necessarily need to take one second overall. I think if Bryce Young were to fall to him,
which is highly unlikely at this point,
I think they would take Bryce Young.
But if there's a guy they're less sure of there as second overall,
I don't think Domeko Ryans would be afraid to say to his owner,
we need to go take Will Anderson.
We took a defensive player in San Francisco second overall in 2019,
and Nick Bosa has got us to three NFC title games and a Super Bowl,
as maybe the best player on the team.
And so, you know, I think that the history of the two guys plays into it.
I think the fact that it's two guys working together for the first time,
plays into it. You know, and then on the other side of this, I think ownership's going to have a say, too.
You know, they probably want the quarterback position settled. So I don't know that they know what
they're going to do if Young's not there for them there at number two quite yet. But I certainly
think it's a discussion point. And I don't think it's a sure thing that they're taking a quarterback
second overall at all. Yeah, you know, there's a coach told you, what was your reaction that
Bryce Young's got some Steph Curry qualities? What was your reaction to that?
Yeah. As a coach who has pretty good institutional knowledge of him. Yeah, I mean, I think it's a really
interesting way of looking at it. And the idea was that both guys play the game very calmly.
And both guys have natural instincts for the position and both guys know where to go with the ball at all
times. And both guys are great leaders and both guys play bigger than their size. And I think it's
just sort of this sense that you have watching a guy with Steph Curry, it looks like he was born
to play basketball with this guy.
You look at him on the football field
and it looks like he's at home out there
in the football field.
And that's how he manages his deficiencies out there.
That's how he manages the height deficiency.
That's how he manages the weight deficiency too
because he's got a way of avoiding hits
and keeping himself out of trouble that way.
And so I think as much as anything else,
like it's the court sense that Steph Curry has out there
where you can see the real translation to Bryce Young,
who's got great field sense as a football player.
You know, it's, we always like to ask you a Patriots question because you know them well,
is that Bill O'Brien is now in.
It's been so public.
It's so funny.
Belichick was always sort of reluctant to show love to Brady.
He strangely showed a ton of love to Cam, and now he's moved back to, I'm not going to show any love to Mac Jones.
I mean, he really praised Cam Newton constantly.
And when Brady and Mac, he's more reluctant, did they bring in Bill O'Brien to just give this kid love and build his confidence?
Do Bill and Bill get along great? How is that going to work?
No, I don't think they did it to build his confidence.
Like, if you go back a year, Colin, like they actually, I mean, talk very highly a Mac.
Like Bill Belichick through April and May and June and July of last year spoke glowingly of Mac Jones and really thought he was going to take a huge step.
and I think internally they felt like the way he handled the coaching, the way he handled
adversity during the 2022 season wasn't very good.
So like that was why like when Bailey Zappy got in there and the questions came is
Mac definitely your starter when he gets back.
Like that's why Bill left that open ended.
And it's why Bill even now won't declare Mac as starter.
You're saying Bailey Zappy's going to have a legitimate shot to come in and compete.
And I believe that Bailey Zabby is going to have a chance to compete.
I think they felt like handling.
Mac, the way they did last offseason didn't really work, so they're going to handle it a little bit of a different way this off season. And at the same time, Bill O'Brien gives him a fresh start, right? Like working with a defensive coach and a special teams coach last year, I think we all had our questions at the time. Obviously, it didn't work out. Now you're bringing in Bill O'Brien, who has great institutional knowledge of what Mack Jones did in college. He didn't coach him there, but he knows what Alabama does and what Mack Jones did well at Alabama. He also has great institutional knowledge of what they do in New England, having been the offensive coordinator there before.
for like now it's like on bill o'brien to create a better environment for the kid so they can
figure out where his ceiling is going to be because they're going to have to make a decision on his
fifth year from now so i think bill o'brien's become a really important figure in the development
of mac jones now and my understanding is to this point like mac's been around bailie's been
around they've sort of siloed bill o'brien off and saying like this is your project to get the
quarterback position right let's see if you can do it albert brayer money morning quarterback good
seeing you man all right thanks calling you bet
But the Mac Jones, Pete, you, you, you, I know we both think that Washington should go after Lamar.
We both thought Atlanta should go after Lamar.
We both think Baltimore should sign Lamar.
Is that fair?
Yeah.
That's fair.
I, Mac Jones is going to remain a patriot.
Okay.
Right?
But I will tell you, watch what's going to happen when Mac Jones this year with Bill O'Brien has a very good year?
can we all acknowledge that he's had a good rookie year with Josh McDaniels,
a good third year with Bill O'Brien,
and when left to his own devices,
Belichick has no clue what he's doing with quarterbacks.
Because if Matt comes back and I think he'll have a very good year,
so I get a great rookie, a great third,
without an O.C.
Left of Bill Belichick's genius, it was a disaster.
And we can just acknowledge the greatest football coach ever doesn't know off it.
He can't draft it.
Look at their tight ends and wide receiver.
He can't draft it.
he can't go buy it in free agency.
Muhammad Sanu didn't work.
Nelson Aguilar didn't work.
So Bill can't draft offense.
He can't develop it.
He can't spend money to do it.
And left to his own, he can't figure quarterback out.
He hurts the position.
And that, so that's why I always said, if Andy, if the NFL would have changed their
rules and been more progressive 10 years earlier, we would not look at Bill as the best coach
and Andy Reid's second.
It wasn't until the CTE.
It wasn't until the lawsuits.
NFL said, we got to get safer fast.
The minute they did that, Andy's the best coach in the league.
Andy now is the best coach in the league.
The better resume.
Mahalms is the best quarterback.
Brady has the better resume.
But it all comes down to, I always said this about Michael Jordan.
If Chicago was in the Western Conference, he wouldn't have gotten all those finals.
And if he did, he would have lost a bird.
Andy would have lost to the Pistons in the finals.
He wouldn't be six for six.
We'd still know he's great.
but if Michael had two finals losses,
we would now acknowledge LeBron's the best player ever.
Because the only thing you have now is not longevity,
not records,
it's six for six.
I think for a while the Chicago Blackhawks were in the Western Conference in hockey,
but the Bulls were in the Eastern Conference of Basketball.
So Michael would have gotten to the finals and lost,
because he couldn't beat the Pistons or the Celtics in their prime.
And then Michael would,
and then we would all now acknowledge,
oh Michael and LeBron both have losses in the finals but LeBron crushes him on all the records.
So a lot of it's inches not feet on if the NFL simply,
they wouldn't have had to spend $900 million on the CTE stuff,
had they figured out 10 to 15 years earlier,
make the game safer,
lighten the rules on hitting or make the rules on hitting more punitive.
Andy Reid in Philadelphia would have been
win in Super Bowls. What held him back is you could literally build a team like New England
or Baltimore and just grab receivers and headhunt guys. The minute the league the last eight to 10
years has shifted to offense and he's better than Bill. So it's just like saying is for all these
young kids that are getting rich in tech, why weren't so many young kids getting rich 40 years ago?
Why? Because there were no devices. There were no businesses for young people to get as rich.
It was insurance and finance and it's hard for young guys to get involved.
Now, how do you get rich in America?
It's not your school.
It's your idea.
Young people are great with new ideas.
And so so much of whose greatest comes down to a variety of things.
And why weren't there all these millionaires at 27 years old 40 years ago?
How did you get rich?
It was businesses that you annuities and stocks and insurance.
It was slow growth.
Ideas back then were limited.
but now it's like if you have an idea, gender, race, doesn't matter.
Idea, you'll get financed.
You'll get finance because that makes everybody rich.
So that's why I don't buy into these, this is the best and this is the second best.
If the league had just figured out in the NFL, get rid of head hunting, get rid of grabbing
players, let guys go over the middle and not fear for their life 15 years ago.
Andy reads the best coach in the league because Bill doesn't know offense.
and he doesn't know defense, but he gives it to Spags.
Bill thinks he knows offense and puts Patricia at O.C.
I can't believe I'm going to defend Belichick, but he did have Drew Bledsoe, I believe,
and said, you know what, this Tom Brady guy, he's not bad.
Let's keep him in there.
And when Brady went down, Matt Castle comes in.
I know they didn't make the playoffs, I don't think, but they won 10 games with Matt Cassex.
Belich passed on Brady in five rounds.
This is true.
And by the way, if Bledsoe doesn't get hurt, Tom maybe never gets the shot.
fascinating indeed. I just, I don't get the irrational love for Mac Jones. You like him way more
than maybe any human on the planet. I mean, outside of his family, it's crazy. Maybe even

I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years from black people in American history.

Gained visibility and control over your financials, HR, commerce, and more. All right. So, J-Mack, OBJ, had the big press conference today.
Now, most people, I think almost everybody in the league thought Baltimore overpaid for him.
We also thought they brought in OBJ because he would curry favor with Lamar Jackson,
who's kind of been a little prickly with the Ravens organization,
kind of an unorthodox agent situation.
The Ravens have been prickly with him as well.
That's fair.
To be fair.
So OBJ at his first press conference and was very forthright.
Here we go.
I didn't get any assurances for anything.
life's uncertain.
I think that, you know, we don't know what's going to happen tomorrow the next day.
You know, we only know what's happened in the past.
So to me, it just was excited about the possibility of that.
You know, my thoughts would be that he would be here.
I know that, you know, these two want them to be here.
And, you know, at the end of the day, that's going to be up to them.
I like that bite.
That's a good bite.
That's a veteran guy standing up to the mic.
There's no assurances here.
that can do what they want. Life's got no assurances.
I got my 15 mil.
Hey, whatever happens happens.
Well, at this point, now in fairness to OBJ, if I had had multiple injuries,
I would take the most money to because he got to a Super Bowl and he gets us, you know,
let's be honest.
He was very big in that Super Bowl.
He was unguarded.
Bengals could not guard him in the first half.
So OBJ was a big part of that Super Bowl.
He gets a ring.
He was a big part of that.
Before the ACL injury.
No, that's what I'm saying.
Yeah.
Now, it's different time.
When you first get into the league as an.
athlete as a pro athlete. Take the money. And then you get like, okay, I want to unring. So OBJ got the fame and
the money. Then he got the ring. And now he's transitioning back to, I'm going to take the money.
And I totally get that because you're not judged. Quarterbacks are judged by rings. Wide receivers,
get the money. I don't think anything less of a wide receiver. I mean, Jerry Rice was great and he has
Super Bowls. But I don't look at DeAndre Hopkins to go, where are the Super Bowls? I'm like,
is a really good, Devonte Adams. Yeah. I just like him as a receiver.
Once you're outside of quarterback, by and large, take the money.
For those who missed it earlier this week, I'm going to ask you again,
why are the Ravens overpaying for a receiver and overpaying for a linebacker,
two non-premium positions in the NFL?
But they won't back up the brinks for that quarterback.
Well, OBJ is just a one-year deal.
So, I mean, if Lamar wants four years guaranteed,
that's different than one-year guaranteed for a receiver.
That's a big commitment.
Lamar gets hurt again, you're screwed.
If OBJ gets hurt, eh, we gave it a run.
I mean, I wouldn't have paid for O'Kwon Smith either.
And he's a tackling machine, but I don't think you can spend money on...
Who were the Ravens bidding against?
The Jets were not paying $15 million.
They were not.
The Jets would not match.
Of course not.
That's an overpay, Colin.
But congrats to OBJ.
