Thanks for making us part of your day.
So, Jay Mack, you were talking about Dalvin Cook of the Vikings.
I got into this discussion.
It was like a month ago.
I was talking to a friend of mine about running backs,
and he said it's such a bummer.
They don't get paid anymore.
And he was, you know, it was kind of, he felt bad for running backs.
And I said, every industry has jobs where you have a long,
tarmac and then their job for the short tarmac. And so if you're a running back and you come into
the NFL, you have to be more mature, you have to invest your money more wisely, your career is
going to be shorter, and that's fine. If you're a stockbrook in America and you're going to do it
for 30 years, you're going to work for Solomon Smith Barney, and you can waste some money, right?
Money's not going to be the issue. If you're a school teacher, you better invest more wisely.
You're not going to have the ceiling of earnings potential. So running backs in the NFL
are not going to get the big endorsements.
If you do, they're very brief.
You're not going to get a second big contract.
And that's just understood.
Same with lineback.
The only people paying linebackers big money are bad general managers.
Bears, Ravens.
Yeah.
It's like, I mean, it's like, I don't think that's where you put your money.
I don't think you should pay safeties big money.
Seattle's paying safeties too much money.
I don't think, now there are occasionally, I would pay a center big money.
I would struggle to pay a guard big money.
The smart teams in the NFL are not paying running backs a big second contract.
The Giants with the Saquan Barclay situation.
I wouldn't.
Now, but see, the giant, that's a great example.
The Giants made a huge mistake, in my opinion.
Where you overpay for a C quarterback, well, it tells every agent and every other really good player in the building,
oh, the only way Daniel Jones wins is if he has me.
With Mahomes, you don't need anybody.
They moved off Tyreek Hill.
They won the Super Bowl.
So when you have a star quarterback, you can pay them big money and nobody else can threaten.
You threaten.
We'll get rid of Tyree Kill, get draft picks.
I mean, this year, they played nine or ten rookies in Kansas City.
They're going to be better next year.
But when you overpay for an average quarterback, giant fans can't figure this out.
They're just, they can't get this through their heads.
When you overpay for an average quarterback, it sends a signal to the agent and the star running back and the star defensive tackle and the
pretty good cornerback and the pretty good receiver, oh hell, they're desperate to sign me
because they overpaid for the quarter. You take Sequin Barclay out of the New York Giants.
Forget not a playoff team. They can be a fourth place team. You know where Barclay should be
looking for next year? Forget about this year. It's shot. Wherever Caleb Williams goes,
I will market myself as, hey, I'm that dual threat running back. Pay me a two-year deal.
You got your quarterback on the cheap. I will help out Caleb Williams make his life easier.
That's where you should be looking. If you're quarterback on the rookie deal,
you can spend on the running back like McCaffrey and San Fran or wide receiver.
Yeah, that's not to say that running backs never make money.
For instance, Bijon Robinson in Atlanta, first round money.
He's going to make good money.
He's going to be a star in Atlanta.
He's a really good kid.
He's got a great reputation.
He'll probably get local ads.
He may get a national ad.
If he wins rookie of the year, he's going to get some endorsements.
But he better be smart with his money because the chance of him getting a second big deal are very rare.
Now, Derek Henry with the Titans is a weird.
story. He didn't do anything for three years.
He became a star in year four.
And then because they were average at quarterback,
he became the centerpiece
of the franchise, which Titan fans
would tell you, hasn't done anything.
They did get the number one seed. I know they don't have
their playoff wins to back in. But again,
they got to the playoffs. But it's okay. Like there's just
certain jobs where you have this big ceiling
of earnings, quarterback,
star receiver.
And we mostly know them.
Edge rusher, star receiver,
great wide receiver,
left tackle.
The position that's always been fascinating to me is corner.
So you've got to have a great corner.
The best corner in the league was Sauce Gardner.
One seven games.
Denver arguably second best corner.
Disaster.
Does Kansas City have a great corner?
No.
Corner is, I still contend,
a great corner is a luxury.
If you told me, you and I were starting a team,
and we get four positions that are great.
We would both go quarterback,
edge rusher, left tackle, and star weapon.
Receiver.
I corner to me is five.
In fact, I would take a second great defensive lineman,
a Chris Jones or Aaron Donald or a Fletcher Cox,
over a great corner.
I think at this point you have to consider,
consider the right tight end.
We've seen George Kittle emergence and friend.
Travis Kelsey, like, I mean, these are Hall of Fame-level tight end.
Somebody told me this years ago,
told me this years ago, if it comes down to a guy that touches the ball and a guy that doesn't,
draft the guy that touches the ball.
If you have a running back in a corner and you like them both,
who's going to touch the ball 12 times a game?
Draft him.
So corner is because corners have been marginalized to some degree now because they can't
grab you off the line.
There's limitations.
I mean, how many great corners the league have?
Three, five?
In fact, GMs will tell you right now, they can easily find a third good receiver.
it's impossible to find a second good corner.
That's why when you're a team,
when you look at some of these teams like Philadelphia.
They had great corners, yeah.
Well, but they have A.J. Brown and the young Donovan.
Devante Smith.
Okay.
So they have two receivers and great tight ends and a quarterback that moves.
You just can't find enough good corners to defend the Philadelphia Eagles.
And then when the Eagles had good cornerbacks,
and when it came to the Super Bowl, what if Patrick Mahomes do?
14 of 15 in the second half.
He was unstoppable.
So even if you have good corners, it's an offensive league right now.
Yeah.
Let's bring in Chris Haynes, TNT Bleacher Report, Senior NBA Insider,
also has a podcast with Mark Stein called hashtag this league uncut.
Okay, let's start Chris Paul.
This is interesting.
So I threw this out there.
We understand what Phoenix, Chris.
They don't want to pay the big money.
They like Chris.
But let me throw this at you.
I think Vogel is going to get the most.
most out of DeAndre Aiton. I think that's his history. He's good with Biggs. I think Booker's a star.
I love KD, but he is now at a point in his career, Chris, where he gets injury, he gets injured.
I think it's very difficult to have both Chris Paul and KD on the same roster, because if they're
both out, it puts enormous pressure on Booker to drop 40 points. So I said, I would move Chris Paul for
like a Marcus smart. Marcus is in his prime. Mark, you don't need offense. Marcus is a defensive
point guard. Celtics need a facilitator and a quarterback with that offense because Jason Tatum's
not a guard and he's often generating, he's getting the ball in play. So my takeaway is Chris Paul
has a market. Chris, I don't think it's Phoenix. Am I wrong on that?
well i would say this phoenix they haven't closed the door on the potential that he could come back
you know when they wave when they wave him it would be a situation where they would still be able
to resign him for a cheaper you know his contract if they waive him before june 28th he would be
owed around 14 15 million that's all he would get he wouldn't get the rest of that i believe 15 or 16
million more and then they can resign him. But if they swayed and stretched him over a period,
I believe it's four years, four or five years, he would not be able to come back at that point.
So we're still in the stages where they're trying to figure out exactly how they're going
to do this. Chris Paul, you know, I spoke to him a little bit. You know, he's waiting to see,
you know, how this all is going to play out. But, you know, I think it's a little bit too early
to start talking about where he's going to go as of right now.
But, you know, to your point about Boston, you know, I personally like the fit.
I don't know how Chris would like going all the way to Boston, but basketball-wise, it would probably be a good fit.
Yeah, I think Chris Paul has value.
It's got to be the right number.
It's got to be a team with some young players in their prime.
You know, so he doesn't have to play 82 games.
He can play 55.
Tatum, Brown, Brogden, they play their 70 games.
He'll be good in the playoffs.
Let's talk about Anthony Davis.
So he's got a year left.
And I understand the Lakers look at Anthony Davis as their second best player, but really the bedrock guy, because he's still close to his prime.
But if you're the Lakers, you want to keep Austin Reeves, you really, you owe LeBron a couple of years.
Why would I have to pay AD early?
Why can't I just wait for another year and then we discuss this?
I think he's the classic player, Chris, because of his injury history.
I'm not paying him early.
I may have to pay him, but I don't want to pay him early.
Why would the Lakers have to?
Well, I think you have to look at precedent,
particularly when you're talking about top guys.
And I think we've even seen it with even guys under in that middle tier category.
Guys don't like playing on expiring contracts.
And depending on the type of star,
stars don't like playing on a contract where they have two years.
years left. They want the flexibility. They want those guaranteed years. And I haven't talked
that, you know, spoken to AD since they were swept by the different nuggets. But the Lakers still
value him as a core centerpiece to this team. So with that being said, I would think it'll be,
I would think they would be able to get something done that would benefit both sides.
You know, there is no talk. I know AD's injury history. I haven't heard.
from the Lakers or I haven't heard from any teams at all as far as like the Lakers saying that
AD can be had or be available or anything like that.
He's a core piece.
So with that being said, I think they will take care of him and get something good.
The, you know, it's the Warriors GM Bob Myers left.
And he's got young kids.
I get it.
But I wonder if he left because he probably knew.
for them to be a viable championship team, Chris,
that they can't bring the entire band back
and they have to tear it apart a little.
They're going to keep Steph and Draymond.
But he probably knows he didn't want to sign Clay
to a four or a five-year deal.
It's not a viable team when all your core pass their prime.
What is your guess on what the Warriors look like next year?
Because it's always great to say,
let's bring the band back together,
but we watch them against the Lakers, Chris,
and they look small.
They looked tiny.
They looked outmanned.
They looked dominated on the glass.
It doesn't feel like a championship team to me.
I hear you,
but my guess is that they bring their core back,
the core guys that helped them get those championships.
Calher, on your own podcast network,
Draymond Green, he had Steve Kerr on,
and he was talking about the value of having,
having role players play their role, even though they might not play certain minutes.
They might not know when they're going to get in the game, but having guys that are
available to come in and not give you, not give you any mouth, not give you any lip.
And so with that being said, him talking very kindly to Draymond like that, that lets me know
that, you know, the problem was the support and cast.
And that's something Steve Kerr talked about, you know, at nauseam this past season.
It's just trying to find a right nucleus.
weren't able to get that, get the ingredients that led to the championship the year prior.
You know, Otto Porter played such a huge role last year.
You know, David West in past years, and Andre Igadala having, you know, have an extensive
role.
He wasn't able to be healthy or a good amount of games, you know, to have an effect of the
court.
So that leads me to believe they feel, they still feel like there's a lot left in the tank.
They just need to get the right support and cast and guys that buy in to whatever they're
trying to do at that particular season.
finally, Damian Lillard on a podcast talked about Miami, and they're the classic Cinderella team
where they're playing a little over their head, they've got undrafted guys, they've got two
excellent players, Butler and Bam. But if you put a Dame on that team with Butler, Bam, and Dame,
that feels like arguably the best team in the league. This feels like a great Cinderella story
that we can't quite figure out how it's working. Dame is one of my favorite guys ever in
the league. But he's not playing in May and June. It would benefit his shoe deal. It would benefit his
legacy. It would benefit everything. What do you make? Miami's not going to sit around, Chris.
Pat Riley is going to kid, you know what I mean? They got some guys that are due big contracts.
They could move Tyler Hero, Caleb Martin. Do you think Dame Miami feel? I think it's a fit.
I think it works, right? Because he's not a great defender, but Butler and Bam can defend.
What do you make a Dame in Miami? Well, I'm in Miami right now. Let me,
give a shout out to Remmy's workout facility. That's where I'm at right now. And he has pickup
games. It's where a lot of NBA players come during the summer and work out. Andre
Drummond is out there right now to play pickup, Kevin Knox, Jonathan Camingo, the Warriors,
and lots of other guys. But, you know, I spoke with Dame yesterday. And, you know, I'll ask him,
I said, man, you were really candid. You were really candid. You know, revealing those teams.
You know, I've known about it. But I would say this, Portland has the number three pick.
And Damien Little bit wants to win now.
And if the Portland Trailblazers want to win now as well, that pick will be moved to get help now.
So if Portland does not move that pick to bring help now, that's where I think we're going to see some movement.
That's where it's going to be some serious talks had by Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers,
which could ultimately lead to the Miami Heat, jumping in the picture.
The Brooklyn Nets jumping in the picture.
And yes, I mean, look, if Damon is going to get traded, it's going to be in the Eastern Conference.
The Miami Heat, for sure, if Dame is made available, the Miami Heat for sure will be knocking at the door,
trying to figure out a way to get in there and make this thing happen.
And look, the transition will be sings.
You know, he would be that guy.
They needed a dominant point guard for a while.
Kyle Lowry hasn't been healthy, you know, when they traded for him,
hasn't really shown the Kyle Lauer that we've seen in Toronto.
Damien Little will provide that, you know, just on an even greater level.
It would be a good situation.
But there are some things that have to happen before we can get to that point.
And it's going to be ultimately what the Portland trouble has decided to do with that number.
All right.
Chris Haynes, TNT Bleacher Report.
That was good stuff right there.
All right, Chris Haynes.
He's got a Mark Stein and him, have a new high art podcast.
Hashtag this league uncut.
Good senior man.
That's really fascinating information by Chris Haynes.
He's on it.
So again, Portland's got the number three pick.
Dame's like, I don't care about the number three pick.
It'd be different if you were getting one of the first two, especially when Benyama.
It's the number three pick.
Portland doesn't want it.
So my takeaway is, I mean, you listen to Chris Haynes, Miami's the space because Portland
doesn't want to have to face him in the West.
Get him out east.
It'd be great for Dame, who his entire career, let's go watch Damien Little.
Remember the last time we're watching Dame and he hit a shot and he did that funny face?
Why isn't he doing that annually?
Why do I not get Damian Lillard annually doing it?
And by the way, Portland, you're not going anywhere.
Portland can get the pick.
Portland doesn't need another older player to play with Dame who's got, you know,
about two good years left.
But Miami, because the way Butler plays and how hard he plays,
I think he'll age pretty quickly.
He's not a brilliant shooter.
Like Butler's going to age pretty quickly.
He lays it all out in the floor.
He gets, you know, Jimmy's like a D. Wade.
He'll age fast.
He's on the floor.
He's banging on people.
He's very physical.
Bam's terrific, but he's not really a two.
You're a championship team if Bam's a three.
And I like Bam, but he's a three.
And then you can put your whoever it is, Tyler, Hearer, that's a fourth.
That's a championship team.
But Butler, Bam, and Dame, that's the best team in the East.
I would largely agree.
I think we did a headline segment where I had Dame going to the heat a while back.
But what if Portland's like, we don't want to lose you, Dame.
We'll give up the number three pick and and, and,
Inferty Simons.
We'll package those.
To get what?
Nirkich.
Remember you tried to move Andrew Wiggins from the Warriors?
You think Dame to the Warriors makes any sense?
No, they've got enough guards that shoot.
No, no.
Wiggins to Portland would be great.
They've been looking for a wing.
So fine.
We'll give you Anthony Simons and the number three pick.
Give us Andrew Wiggins.
That might be too rich because Wiggins is good.
I don't know how much value the number three pick has.
It's going to be Brandon Miller from Alabama.
Or Scoot Henderson, like a six.
two guards, six three guard, who could be Derek
Rose and his best.
I think if you're Portland, you've got
to call Miami and say
give us stuff.
A Portland is...
Can Milwaukee get Damien Lillard?
Chris Middleton.
Oh, I'd like that.
A bunch of other stuff. Whatever you want
off our roster. Also, it should be noted
Dame, Weber State,
Portland, Milwaukee. He's not
a guy that loves big cities and all the
flag. Dame's a grinder. Dame's a grinder.
Dame loves, dame's in a dame and doing his stuff with his family.
Dame doesn't need, like Miami's a flashy town.
Dame's a flashy player, but he's not a flashy guy.
He's about business and basketball and family.
It's West Coast so they wouldn't do it.
Clippers call up.
Give us, Dame, we'll give you Paul George.
I told you I like that.
I like that for both teams.
But the clippers aren't going anywhere.
They have nobody to initiate their offense.
The problem with dame is you go there, Kauai gets hurt again,
and then it's like you're on a crap team.
Yeah, but that's a really good roster with a really,
really good coach and a really well-funded ownership.
A good roster. Kawhi, Dame,
and who, who, who am I miss it?
I forget.
Kawhi and Paul George and Powell.
No, Paul George is out. Paul George is going to Portland.
So now it's Dame,
Kawhi. Time out. Those were two stars.
Kawhi's never available.
You know this.
Well, no, I, I'm not saying it's perfect.
Miami's a championship team with Dame.
Bottom is, I don't know if they have enough to make Portland get,
does Portland get aroused by Tyler Hero and
Duncan Robinson and Caleb Martin, does that do anything?
Again, remember, Dame, and I'm a fan of Dame, you're a fan of Dame.
How many great years left with Dame?
I'd say two, two big years.
Now, maybe it's three, but two.
So I'm not going to go on the market and get three number one picks and two stuff.
You're not going to get it.
Like the New York Knicks don't need Dame, they have Jalen Brunson.
But you're not going to get, but if you came to me and said, R.J. Barrett,
Julius Randall for Dame, you think it sounds
lobsided because Dame's way better, but Julius Randall has
five more years to play.
R.J. Barris got eight.
That doesn't do it because then you've got Dame and Jalen Brunson.
So the way to do, Dame is of real value
to a team that has a star and needs a second one
and is already good. And doesn't necessarily
care about eight, because Miami is shown an ability
with Pat Riley. Shaq left, fine. LeBron left,
fine. De Way left, fine. Miami
rebuilds very quickly. Their culture,
they draft, they develop, they're well-funded
free agents like Miami.
So Miami's one of these teams that can give up
a little of their future to be good now
and they'll be, they figure it out.
Their history is they just keep figuring it out.
But I think Portland's dead end.
This is not a championship team.
So let's make stuff start over again.
We got Dame got you to, didn't he get to one Western
Conference Finals? You did get to a Western Conference Final? Yeah, I mean,
that's the ceiling on it. It was awesome. But let's
redo this thing.
Where are you on Brandon?
Ingram of the Pelicans.
Is he a borderline star? Remember, they pushed Phoenix
two years ago. They made the plan.
I like him. I like him. If you're done with Zion
Williamson, do you say, hey, Portland,
take Zion. We're done with this guy. Why would
I want him? He never plays.
Unless he's got personal stuff. He's got a lot of stuff.
But Brandon Ingram and
Damien Liller, does that... Yeah, it's a very
good team with Nirkich. A very good team.
I would like that a lot. What do I have to give up number three
pick? I just don't... Portland's probably
not dealing him in the West. So you're right. Then you've
got to look to the east. No, I'm saying, I'm saying, if I'm Portland and you can get me
Brandon Ingram and I can give you the number three pick and a bunch of used parts, that's interesting,
but why would New Orleans? No, no, no, they're not doing that.
Brandon Ingram is a good player. This guy's borderline all-N-Ba player. He's a good player. He's a good player.
What's Jamal Murray? If Brandon Engler's a good player? Jamal Murray's a better player,
but I don't think the gap is gigantic. I think they're both very good players.
The thing is, Murray's getting like 10 assists a game in the finals. Brandon Ingram made a tennisist guy.
He's like a five-assist guy.
Well, and I like Jamal Marie, but Yokic is...
I love Jamal Marie.
Listen, you know, I like NBA jerseys.
If I can find a Jamal-Marie throwback, you know, with the Denver skyline from the 80s, like the Alex English jersey.
You know what?
I'm doing that during the commercial.
Can we just go to commercial so I can go buy one?
Do you wear that out?
I'll wear it to the beach.
I'll rock it, you know, in public.
Like you take your wife to dinner wearing a jersey.
No, stop.
What are you talking about?
Like in Paris, did you wear a jersey?
Stop it.
No, I saw a Wemba Nama jersey on a guy.
I thought it looked cool.
He's from France.
Well, I don't know.
I saw his back.
But no, I won't go to dinner wearing an NBA jersey.
Maybe I'll get a slice of pizza.
The beach is fine.
That's kind of the, I draw the line.
Remember that heat the beach to the sidewalk off?
Remember that heat jersey?
I wore to the beach.
You liked that photo.
I thought it was very appropriate.
I think jerseys are great at the beach.
The minute you get on hard soil, the jersey comes off.
And you become a grown-up.
So sidewalks, no beach.
You can wear them in the stadium.
You can always wear a jersey in the stadium,
unless you have a date,
then wear a shirt, and you can wear them at the beach.
So these are the rules.
What about the jersey with the hat backwards?
Are you just like, I'm not talking to that guy?
I'll punch that guy right in the forehead.
I've got no interest in that guy.
Sports bar, timeout, third place.
So you can wear, as a guy, you can work Jersey at the beach.
Yeah, but you're meeting girls at sports bars.
You can't wear a.
You can't wear a jersey.
Who meets a girl to sports bar?
The girls that want to meet sportsy guys.
No way.
You go have burgers and fries.
That's not a pickup place.
I'm not saying a pickup place.
Did you meet your beach?
beautiful wife at a sports bar. We met at a lounge in New York City. Of course. A hookah lounge out there smoking.
It was a hookah but we weren't doing hookah. By the way. I've done it before. Have you?
Oh, hell yeah. I was king hookah. Huka lounge is in New Yorker great. So we confirmed you're into
vaping and hookah? No, I don't vape. No, but I've hookered before with Ann. We were up for new
adventures. I don't do it all the time, but I've hooked. Okay. I didn't know it was it was, it was
used like that. I'd never done it before. I went to New York
and somebody invited me to hookah. And I was like,
I'll try it. Yeah. It was fun.
You're up for just new experiences?
Yeah. Mushrooms? Mushrooms this weekend?
No, that's not. That's drugs. Huka's not a drug.
I think it's legal in California.
Huka's Jets. Well, a lot of stuff's legal in California.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't
realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

J-MAC with the news.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, game three of the finals.
Nuggets utterly dominant.
60 to 34 points in the paint advantage.
I know.
Aaron Gordon is too big.
Yokic seemed to snare every rebound.
Did you see the rebounding totals and the point in the paint totals?
Yeah, I think the Nuggets out rebounded them by 25 points in the paint, 60 to 34.
Wow.
Like, you can't do anything about that.
You're not going to put in Cody Zeller.
He's not going to do anything.
No, there's a length advantage here.
Remember the Lakers look so big against the Warriors and then they look so small against Denver?
Even Michael Porter.
He's not making shots.
He's like 610.
and a long factor inside, just tipping balls.
Eric Spolstra said they can't handle it inside.
Well, they just pummeled us in the paint.
They didn't really have to shoot threes.
Our percentage at the rim or in the paint was pretty poor.
Yes, you do have to credit their size and everything like that,
but we've proven that we can finish in the paint.
Yeah, there's definitely some things where we got flattened out.
and they jammed us up in possessions, got us laid into possessions.
Yeah, I mean, there's just some only, Eric Spolstra is having to find ways to solve problems that aren't solvable.
Denver's length is not a solvable problem.
Yokic is not a solvable problem.
What Miami offers is more solvable.
Run them off the three point line.
Like last night, run a guy off the three point line.
You can solve that.
Now, it's not easy, and you can't do it always.
But there's a way to solve what Miami provides.
You can solve it a little bit.
Obviously, they're in the finals, so it's tough.
That's why Tyler Hero implementing him in gives them another score and shooter,
and it becomes harder to defend Miami.
But you can't defend.
Miami's length is what it is.
They're going to get points in the paint.
They're going to dominate that in every game.
With Struce, Martin, Duncan Robinson, Vincent, you need like two or three of those guys to have good games.
And last night, none of them did anything.
And it was just like, you got no chance when that happens with your undrafted guys.
So, Hero, do you start him in game four or do you have them coming off the bench?
Well, like, how do you get it?
You have to play them.
So let's get.
I'm going to guess the line in game four.
Oh, me, okay.
So my guess is Denver's a point and a half favorite in game four.
I would take Miami.
It feels a little light.
I'm seeing in Las Vegas three and a half at two places and three headed toward three and a half at another.
So I would take Miami in game four.
three and a half. Yeah, I think they're going to win game four, and then Denver's going to win the next two and win the series in six.
How all of a sudden is Miami fixing this unsolvable york?
If you take the Knicks series out, there was a number of my staff gave me this morning, the team gave me, and I forget it.
But if you take the Nick series out, they're just not very good.
Since then, basically, Miami's three and six, if they don't shoot 48% on threes, which is, like, that would be great for KD. Steff and Clay.
So there's a way for Miami to win. They have to shoot a lot of threes, and they have to shoot a lot of threes, and they have to.
to hit a lot of them. If they don't, they don't win. Denver doesn't have to play any certain
way. They're going to win because they're better. So Miami can win this series, but they have to
hit an inordinately high percentage of threes. I know we've gassed up Spolstra. He's great coach.
He's great. Maybe the best coach in the league. At what point do we need to start giving Michael,
don't call him Mike Malone, he gets upset apparently. Michael Malone, a lot of credit. Because remember,
coming in, hey, Jimmy Butler on Jamal Murray. Really confused him. Really shut down Murray last
game. Malone came out. Did you see who took
like the first four or five shots for Denver?
It was all Jamal Murray. Dribble handoffs.
Murray getting to the bucket. He got going early.
It was like, you guys can't stop me. You can't
stop what we're doing. I think Malone
is, you know, if you're looking at the
Mount Rushmore of best coaches in the league
right now, it's got to be Kerr,
Spolstra, Malone?
You have to put Malone in there. Let's
slow down. Okay, fine. Who else you got?
Booneholtzor got fired. Popovich
is still very effective. Oh, please. He hasn't done
Jack Squat since he lost Duncan and those guys.
He's done a damn thing.
He's done.
He's had quite a career.
Right now?
We're talking about right now.
I'm not giving him props for something he did.
He didn't forget how to coach.
It's going to be remarkable when he gets Victor Wenbanyama.
He's suddenly become a better coach here in about three months.
I like Malone.
I'm not knocking Malone.
But let's, he's a Hall of Fame.
It's like Belichick.
Right now he's not one of the five best coaches in the NFL.
I would say, Spolstra, Ker, Popovich, all great.
I'm not going to rate him.
And then I think there's another group of,
Guys, Tyloo is very effective.
You don't think Tyloo is a good coach?
Malone's about to win a title.
And Tyloon is ahead of him?
He won a title.
He won a title.
He won one with LeBron.
Come on.
LeBron's lost in the finals like four times, hasn't he?
Five times.
Four times.
Whatever it is.
A title with LeBron is like, I mean, Spolstra post-
Okay, post-Lebron, has Tyloon won anything?
Tailu got him to the playoffs.
It's not his fault.
His two best players are never available.
Okay.
Spolstra post-Lebron has been to the finals a bunch.
I think Tyloos is a really good coach.
He's good.
I'm giving Michael Malone the nod.
Sorry.
It's such a recency bias.
Maybe.
Maybe.
Next up, Chris Paul's NBA futures in question.
He could be waived by the sons this off season.
He's had a reputation over the years.
He's demanding with his teammates and difficult to play with.
Who said that?
Who said that?
Everyone.
Blake Griffin, you name it.
It's something he understands and has learned to embrace.
Who are you talking about?
Probably to play with me.
You know, to be my teammate or something like that, because a lot of times I've got a one-track mind.
You know what I'm saying?
And that's to compete.
And if you're not on that same energy, then it's going to be hard.
It's going to be hard for us to get along.
It's hard.
That's why me and both get along probably because he on that same energy.
One thing you learn in this league is that a lot of guys start to appreciate you after the fact.
By the way, I will defend Chris Paul 100 out of 100 times.
We got guys waving guns on IG, guys that can't get their personal life Zion right.
The knock-on Chris Paul he's hard to play with.
No, he's demanding.
So are really good people in tech, basketball, art, music.
I bet when you're on the set with Scorsese, he's demanding.
Know your lines.
This knock-on Chris Paul's been out there forever.
It's a bunch of nonsense.
What are the Clippers done since he left?
Everywhere he goes, they get better.
What's Houston done since he left?
He's not hard to play with.
He holds you accountable.
He's an adult.
Okay.
That's all very fair and accurate.
I'm just looking up how many teams Chris Paul's played for in his career.
New Orleans.
By the way.
Clippers, Houston, OKC, Phoenix.
By the way, every one of those places, win, win, win, win.
Phoenix was a tire fire, and he got there.
OKC was tanking.
I agree.
I'm not totally disagreeing.
He's a Hall of Fame first ballot guy.
100%.
Lock it up.
All NBA two years ago.
That being said, you mentioned John Morant waving around a gun on Instagram.
I got no time.
What about Chris Paul's goal?
Going to Memphis, mentoring John Morant, showing him what it's like to be a professional.
They already have a great backup guard.
They do have Tyos Jones, but John Moran's going to be gone maybe 30, 40 games.
Why do I want to be a babysitter at this point in my career?
If I had to babysit you, you wouldn't be sitting there.
It's like, I want you to be good.
You're good.
Chris Paul, when you get older in your career, you don't want to be a professional babysitter.
You want to win games?
I mean, not babysitter, but teaching the guy how to win and be a professional.
A mentor, if you will.
Who wants to be a mentor?
Well, Chris Paul, I mean, okay, fine.
Where are you putting in then?
Boston!
I think it's one of the most brilliant.
What about Milwaukee?
They don't really have a point guard.
Drew Holland is a combo.
You can't run the offense.
They're a little like Denver where their star, their big kind of initiates offense.
That's fine.
Boston's the fit.
It's perfect.
I'm going to say this right now.
In all my years of doing this, it may have been my greatest suggestion ever for a trade.
You know I'm right on this.
Boston needs a quarterback.
Phoenix needs somebody that can play 65 games.
Markets Smart defense.
Is a heavy minutes guy.
He plays a lot of minutes, a lot of games.
And he defends and Frank Vogel loves that.
Right.
Do you think Boston, all of us is going to run him into the ground and play him 30 minutes tonight?
No, because Tatum and Brown already played big minutes.
So then what, you're playing Malcolm Brogden out of a lot of minutes?
Yes. I'm saying, Chris, we're going to play a 50 regular season games.
Can you be available in 16 playoff games for 14 of them?
One of the low expectations.
I will say this is better than your cockamamie idea with that, what was it, Jordan Pool?
The one Simmons ripped you for.
I think, hey, I don't care.
If Bill Simmons is listening, you tell me Chris Paul for Marcus Smart.
You can make it work with reserves.
It's not the worst deal in the world.
I got to say, it's not bad.
Everything Phoenix needs, more minutes from their point guard, a better defensive guard.
Toughness.
They're a little soft.
Okay, you can't have Chris.
Paul and Kevin Durant in the same unit, man.
They're both missing games.
It becomes two Devin Booker dominant.
By the way, in that video, Chris Paul was pretty clearly talking about DeAndre Aiton.
He's like me and Booker on the same wavelength.
I'm demanding.
That's what superstars are.
I don't think Chris Paul is demanding.
I think Chris Paul's a grown-up.
He's an adult.
He's desperate to win.
I'll never forget.
Oh, by the way, here's another thing.
Here's another reason Chris Paul's great to Boston.
Boston has been inches away from winning a champion.
Chip. Chris Paul and Boston
similarly. There's no ego here.
They all have one mission to win a championship.
No ego on Chris Paul?
Chris Paul. Didn't have an ego?
Oh my gosh. I don't see any ego with Chris Paul. No ego.
So one of the, you remember Marcus Thompson? You've had him on the show.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
He knows Curry well. One of the best stories he ever told me was about the Steph Curry
Chris Paul like issues. They didn't like each other for a while. And you know why
Chris Paul hated him? Because they were both coming up and Chris Paul was at Lobb City
with the Clippers. And they were supposed to be.
to be the next great team in the league.
And Steph Curry zoomed right past him.
Yeah.
And started winning titles and getting the accolades,
Jersey sales, and MVP.
And Chris Paul resented him.
And you remember when Houston and the Warriors battle?
Chris Paul shimmied in his face when they went up three, two?
That's gamesmanship.
Tempted the basketball gods.
What happened?
Chris Paul busted his hamstring.
Who won the series?
Steph Curry and the Warriors.
It was awesome stuff.
This was like 2018, 2019.
No, I'm not denying it, but that doesn't mean Chris Paul
doesn't have a healthy confidence in himself.
Is that what we're calling you?
I have a healthy confidence in this.
I mean, Chris Paul, to be a professional athlete,
you have to be confident in your abilities.
Chris Paul is confident.
I would, I think the Boston idea,
they do not have a facilitator.
All you need to know is once the playoffs happen,
Tatum becomes their assist leader.
Marcus smarts their assist leader in the regular season.
So once the playoffs start,
they don't want Marcus getting their offense.
going. They want Tatum doing it.
You're not going to a championship that way.
Last question on your Chris Paul thing.
Do you think Chris Paul wants to go to Boston?
Not the team, not the franchise, the city.
No, but he wants to win a ring, and you can't have everything in life.
And you know what I mean by that. Anyways, final story, let's go to another team that continually
lets their fans down. The Miami Dolphins!
They did make the playoffs under Mike McDaniel last year.
Tua's second year in this offense, and McDaniel obviously thinks, oh my gosh,
Tua is slaying in training camp.
You know, I think year two, the prerequisite is that he, as the quarterback, he has to have ownership of everything he's doing and whatever else is doing as the facilitator of the offense.
And he's checked that box every day.
He's really been one of our more consistent, if not, I think he's been as consistent as anybody day and day out, which has residuals.
affects the whole team, and I know the team can feel it as well.
Ten wins.
Over the next two years?
Sorry, Miami.

saturday at noon eastern on fox as michigan takes on pittsburgh then the action continues on sunday as
philly battles new jersey at seven p m eastern catch every play saturday and sunday on fox you know we didn't
we talked golf the last two days you can't tell me how smart you are and then be shocked that the
and the PGA tour have merged.
Sports is about money.
It's entertainment.
Duh.
Money, it's always about money.
Sports is always eventually about money.
That's why the MLS went to Apple.
They got more money.
It's why the Live and the PGA merged.
There was a money issue.
PGA was running out of it.
Live needed a TV partner.
This idea, like anybody was surprised this happened.
Like, it's not the 70s.
Even in the 70s money mattered, but there just wasn't as much of it.
And so when you're talking about all these sports leagues, MLS, NHL, NBA, all they care about is their TV partners.
That's where the money comes from.
They're going to do whatever they got to do to make the money, keep going and keep people employed and keep this thing going in that direction.
That direction means uphill and ascending.
This idea people are shocked by it.
Like if you wrote a column six months ago saying,
live was the end of golf like you're you're literally you got your head in the sand
live we've had the a fl we've had the aBA we've had the xFL the usFL we always have
whenever you have a business i mean i remember when that we had the tv show american uh idol and then
there was like six copycat shows right trying to create these little audiences that stole away some
of the money it's a very competitive business so golf is a global game the european tour has been leaning
Middle Eastern money for decades.
Again, you can be outraged by the merger, but you can't be surprised by it.
You can't be surprised by it.
You can't lecture us and write your brilliant column and then you're outraged by it.
Okay, you can be outraged.
You can't be surprised by it.
If you didn't see this coming, then you've never owned a business.
You don't get business.
And just acknowledge it.
You don't get it.
You just don't understand how the game works.
But everything's controlled by TV.
That's where the money's at.
It's at Fox, CBS, NBC, and everything's about can you get a TV partner and Live wasn't making the kind of money they needed to on the TV stuff.
PGA owns that.
And so they had a hole in their game.
Meanwhile, all PGA had a hole in their game.
They lost Brooks Kepkin, Phil Mickelson, and Dustin Johnson.
Along with Rory McElroy, my three or four favorite golfers to watch.
And so it just, it's like what?
planet are we on surprised that sports goes heavy into money. Be pissed about it.
Don't be surprised. This thing's been happening for my entire life. And I remember years ago,
Sports Illustrated. It was, I think it was Sports Illustrated. It was like the, I always hear
this. Housing prices, they cannot keep going up. They do. Always. It's only so much beachfront
property. Homes down in L.A. Beach is worth $100 million. They keep going up. It's a global income.
Somebody will pay for it. These rights can't keep going up. Yeah, they can. They do.
Rights keep going up. Hockey rights. Nobody watches. Hockey rights are going up. They make a fortune
in Canada. Fortune here. Hour three next.
