This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Listen and learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast.

We're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go.
Hour number two in a Friday.
JMAQ is all fired up during the break.
Ha ha.
Live in L.A., it's the herd.
Thanks for making us part of your day, a lot of choices.
So we got into this argument.
The NFL suspended a few players because they were gambling.
And first of all, there's so much misinformation on the Internet.
Well, the NFL's in bed with gambling, and yet their players can't gamble.
The players do profit off gambling.
It's called a rev share with a CBA.
Players do have a rev share with gambling contracts with the league.
So the players do make money in gambling.
But there's a few hard, fast rules, too.
So, J. Mack, tell the audience what bothered you about the Titans' Right Tackle.
Okay, so I don't know that it's been announced by the League,
but the Titans' right tackle has sent a message out there announcing,
I got Pop for six games for gambling.
I just want everybody to know,
in the state of Tennessee, he plays for the Titans.
Gambling is legal.
I was not betting on the Tennessee Titans.
That's what he's saying.
But I bet on whatever NBA, you know, WNBA tennis, whatever,
from the facility.
And that's why I got six games.
And, you know, you and I were going back and forth and like, yes, Colin,
I'm sure the team let everybody know.
you cannot gamble at the facility.
About 30 times.
We're assuming that.
That's a big assumption.
The league has made a huge.
No, I have this source.
The league has made a huge priority.
Signs everywhere.
Like it is a priority with the league.
Hey, hey, coach, I got a question.
Okay, so you be the player and I'll be the-
Coach, I love March Madness.
I really think Kansas is going to go all the way.
I'm going to make a bet on Kansas right now.
That's cool, right?
Jason, as we discussed earlier, there's only two
rules. Number one is never bet anything in the facility. No bets ever in the facility on anything.
And the second rule is never bet the NFL. Okay, wait a second. Wait, wait, wait. Gambling is legal in
Tennessee. There's a sports book at our stadium. Wait, I can't bet from here. Why is that?
Doesn't make sense. Gambling is legal in Tennessee. Remember, there are companies within states that can
have their own rules.
Our rule is,
in the NFL, never
gamble inside of an
NFL facility on anything.
That's an easy one to remember.
Why would they care if I bet on Tiger Woods to win the
Masters? I don't know. They do.
That doesn't make, that's not fair.
Well, you're making money off the gambling
through the collective CBA. I understand.
I'm just saying, all these media people,
this is hypocrisy. Because media
tends to, you know, they always
favor, especially young media of the players.
Players are getting paid in this gambling.
It's called rev shares.
Okay, so the bottom line is you're getting yours.
Just don't gamble ever on anything in the facility.
And the second rule is don't bet your sport.
For the record, if you have kids, I've always had a rule.
If you give kids assignments or limitations or rules, do it in twos.
You give them three, they'll forget the second.
So you know, you tell your kids, got to be home to get.
cleaned up for dinner at five
homework right after dinner.
If I had a third one, also we have to
they'd forget the second. So simplify
everything to pairs and twos.
Never make a bet in the facility.
Under any circumstances for any sport.
Okay. So I have another question. I'm
Jonathan Jones. I'm of the Patriots cornerback.
Coach Belichick,
if our goal is to try to win this football
game this week against the dolphins.
why can't I bet on our team to win?
Is Pete Rose your cousin?
No, it doesn't work that way.
You can never bet on your sport.
There's too much impropriety.
There's too many questions.
We don't know you'd always bet your team.
So the NFL and all sports understand.
You never are allowed to bet because you have inside access and information that the market does not.
It's like insider trading on Wall Street.
You can't just buy and sell stock.
if you have inside information.
But, coach, my inside info is we're going to kick their butt,
and I'm betting on us to win.
That's what we want to do, right?
Are we trying to win this week, coach?
It's still inside information, which is not available.
The game plan's not available to the market.
There's access you have.
We want to win the game.
And by the way, the stockbroker wants to hit on his stock.
But if he has information that the rest of the market doesn't,
it's insider trading.
Like Martha Stewart got nab for.
Even if no stock broker buys a stock saying hope we lose.
Okay, just for people at home, listen, Jonathan Jones said this.
I understand point spreads and how that stuff works.
But there's a, listen, we're what, a year or two into this, Colin?
Because a lot of players seem to not get this.
Now, the Colts guy who bet a prop on a Colts running back.
Listen, there's no defense for that guy.
Apparently big money prop as well.
But anyways.
All right, let's go live.
Eric Mangini, Foxx.
North NFL analyst.
I don't think it's that difficult.
Am I wrong on this?
Just don't bet NFL, don't bet in the facility.
Bet March Madness?
Is it hard?
No, look, you can't bet on games and everybody knows it.
You can't bet in the facility.
Like, it's amazing that they're having as many issues as they are with this.
And I'm sure they've been very transparent out in front with what the rules are.
And you know, you know.
You can't bet on game.
You can't do it.
So I saw the NFL.com had their all under 25 team, first and second team.
It was all first and second round picks.
The only exceptions were a blood clot issue for a guard who fell and a safety at USC who had injury issues.
Both were high school all Americans.
Both were all conference.
Both were great players.
But injuries dropped them.
Basically, get your stars in the first or second round.
When you look at that, how do guys view third, fourth, fifth, six, how did you look at the draft?
You felt, look, you wanted to hit on the first round.
We always felt that if we could get our first rounder to play a thousand reps,
which means the first rounder becomes a starter.
In the second round, if we could get that guy to play at least 500 reps as a rookie,
that would be successful.
And that 500 reps could come in a combination of substituted defenses or situational
offensive packages and special teams.
And then those other rounds were chances that you could get really good players
that would develop and contribute a lot.
But they all had their different flaws that they had to overcome.
You had to figure out how they were going to fit into your system.
And then sometimes you hit huge with those guys.
Yeah.
So I said this last year, didn't come to fruition.
I said the downside to being great and winning.
rings is it gets to be an expectation.
And Robert Kraft is not going to sit there if they finish fourth and struggle again
to score in an offensive league and go, I got my rings.
I've got my net worth.
I do think Bill's under pressure.
The DC to OC backfiring adds to it.
I mean, you tell me, what is Bill facing this year pressure-wise in your opinion?
Well, I think that Robert made it very clear when he said, I'm looking for my seventh.
That's a very apparent mandate in terms of expectations.
It's not looking to get back to the playoffs.
It's not looking to go deep into the playoffs.
It's looking to win another Super Bowl.
And that bar has been said.
And Robert has given some ground.
I think he gave ground when they moved on from Tom,
and Tom goes to tapping wins the Super Bowl.
I think he gave ground when,
when they tried the experiment last year, and that didn't work out.
They missed the playoffs two out of three years, and it's really unfathomable that you think
Bill Belichick is under pressure or on the hot seat, but when you set the bar as high as you
have and you've won as much as you've had, and then recently, things haven't worked out,
then that happens.
And the idea that they could be fourth in that division, I'm sure would make Mr. Kress sick.
You know, as a coach for the Jets for three years, it's a pretty impulsive owner.
It's an intense fan base.
New York is simply different.
It's just different.
There's a lot of reasons that New York is the best city in the country, and there's other reasons it can drive people crazy.
But when you're in sports, the expectations for even a team like the Mets and the Jets that don't have a history of a lot of trophies, it's really high.
And so when I look at Aaron Rogers Hard Knocks, I don't think Hard Knocks makes a good team bad.
I don't think it affects it.
But it is interesting.
So Aaron's never had a bad O-line.
He's never had a defensive coach.
He's never had a media that's aggressive and pushes back.
Hard knocks will get attention.
I think Aaron will be fun and entertaining.
To be honest with you, that's who I'd want to be on it.
But I do think that you have the experience that others don't.
Is that you're asking an older player who can be a bit prickly defensive coach.
O-line's in question.
A lot of young.
teammates, brutal division, a relentless media.
What's realistic to you? Can you see potholes or do you think this thing is going to work?
Well, I'm not sure if it's going to work. I think it's going to have to work in order for
the current coaching staff to stay another year. Look, I went through this with Brett Farr,
and as soon as you go get a player that's a future Hall of Famer and you insert them into a team
that's emerging like the Jets are, expectations are going to be through the roof.
And then you pay $100 million for that player and you give up some draft picks.
The idea is that they're going to either compete for the Super Bowl or win the Super Bowl,
and that's the expectation of the fan base.
I'm sure that's the expectation of the owner.
And I don't think it's unreasonable.
Aaron Rogers gives you a chance to win every game.
You already were very good defensively.
You were in a bunch of tight games last year.
And I think that those expectations are probably fair.
You may want to as a head coach try to downplay those,
but you can't.
You can't in New York.
And I went through it with Brett,
and it's either Super Bowl or bust really for New York.
Was New York unfair in their criticism?
Because the FAR thing worked until he got banged up.
Was there a point with Fav that did you think the New York media and the fans had contextualized it?
Were realistic because baseball fans in New York, you know, the Mets spent a bunch of money.
You can buy relevance.
It's hard to buy wins overnight.
But I mean, in your experience, were New York fans in the media?
Did they kind of understand this would take a while?
No.
No.
It's one of the, it's not something where it's not a point.
place that's built on patience. And when you look at what the New York Giants did last year,
that patience becomes even smaller. So Brian Daval goes into a situation that's really difficult
and brings the team to the playoffs. And now you're the New York Jets and you're getting a guy who's
one year removed from back-to-back MVP's. The expectation is you're going to go to the playoffs.
You're going to go far into the playoffs and you should compete for the Super Bowl. And even if it
if that wasn't the case look new york new york's a hard place and they expect to win and and
it doesn't matter what team you are if you're not winning and holding up your end of the bargain
then they're going to want you to go someplace else uh not to be cynical but i i read all the
expectations on jordan love and i said this Patrick mahomes they leaked video out
very early on mahomes video got out and it was
like it was like the 22 film or it was film that I could never get access to, right?
It was practice video that doesn't get out.
And it was Mahomes rolling right, throwing left, and I'm like, where did that video come from?
They wanted it out.
When Daniel Jones got drafted viewed as a reach, the giant suddenly released
slow-mo video.
It was like chariots of fire.
It was that Daniel did the ball never hit the ground, right?
Like stuff gets out when somebody wants it out.
Four years with Jordan Love, there's no intense practice video.
Isn't that a tell?
Isn't that something, Eric?
First of all, I love how you lead with not to be cynical.
You're not to be.
Yeah, look, this is one of those situations where, again, you better be right.
You've got Aaron Rogers costing $40 million on the salary gap in dead money.
17% of the salary gap.
You trade them away for really nothing compared to what.
what they got for Russell Wilson and Deshawn Watson.
So you made that decision.
You drafted a guy in the first round.
He's been there for three years.
This is not a rookie.
This is a guy that's been in the program for three years.
You better be right because you essentially gave away Aaron Rogers in a lot of ways
compared to what other people got.
And you've got three years of evaluation, of tape, of experience, all those things.
he should come out and be really good.
And the expectation should be very high there as well.
I don't know if that's totally fair because it is going to be his first year starting.
But for what they gave up, for what they're eating in terms of cap space,
and for the fact that the guy's been there three years, he should come out fire.
Yeah.
So Eric Mangini is joining us.
But you're a little cynical about that, I think.
Maybe the Twitch.
You know, the team you loved last year was the Raiders.
And I said a couple days ago, the Raiders are a volcano with a logo.
There's always molten lava bubbling right underneath the surface, right?
It's just inches away.
So Josh McDaniels is obviously a great coordinator.
But in Denver, he rubbed people the wrong way.
He rubbed Derek Carr the wrong way.
And I said this.
I know he's smart.
but there is there is something about certain personalities it's okay to be polarizing for instance
for me to my audience not to my bosses and there's something about josh mcdaniels it feels like it's
starting to turn josh jacob's unhappy devonte adams talking Derek cart you know josh mcdaniels
i don't know him but i like him it feels like it's going sideways again doesn't it yeah this
this is this is a hard situation i really like josh mcdaniels a lot and
he is incredibly smart.
And I think Mick Lombardi, the offensive coordinator, is another guy who's incredibly smart
and is going to be a head coach.
So they've got a good staff.
Rob Ryan is there on the defensive side.
But you go in and you try to change a culture and insert a culture that you believe in,
and that has worked for a long time.
And then I understand what Josh is trying to do.
But as you do that and you break a lot of eggs in the process,
whether it's what happened with Derek Carr, who I've always really liked him.
It seems like his teammates really liked him.
And then you trade away Darren Waller.
And now you've got a situation where your best player is unhappy because he's been franchised.
Now in year two, you better win a lot of games early to get the confidence of the building back and the team behind you.
It's not that I think that Josh's process is flawed or the things that he believes in.
are flawed. The timeline has changed for a lot of head coaches in terms of how long they have
to insert a program. So he's going to have to win games early. Otherwise, the hole in the boat
is going to get a lot bigger, I think. Many people not realize this, but when you left NFL
coaching, you went and hung out with the Niners for a couple of years, and you were in the room
with Harbaugh, you know the Niners personnel very well. You know it, you probably know John Lynch.
well, Kyle Shanahan, a lot of guys you know in sports, you've been around for a long time.
And so I had somebody on the other day and I said, when do you think the Niners knew?
Oh, boy, this Traylands thing ain't great.
And there's no right answer.
But go back, you told me once you guys had made a big pick in New York and you kind of knew,
how long do you think?
Because Sam Darnold acquisition's pretty clear.
That's option two or one.
Like that's pretty clear.
How long do you think, do you think it's causing any, how long did it take?
Do you think Kyle Shanahan's bitter because he wanted Mack Jones?
How do you think that thing plays?
Well, look, I've seen guys develop at different paces.
And DeBrickshaw Ferguson, his first year didn't light it up.
He left tackle, we drafted him fourth overall.
And then he got it.
And he became a really good player for a long time.
It just took a while.
And with quarterbacks, Tom Brady wasn't very good as first.
year. And I've said that a bunch of times, but there's patience and there are traits and you
saw the development and the growth. I don't know where Trey came into the mix. Again, to give up what
they gave up and to move as aggressively as they did to get him, you would feel that they've,
they had a love for this player. And the way things have played out, they got extremely lucky
with Brock Purdy.
I mean, that's like lightning in a bottle.
So I don't know if the evaluation on Trey Lance is complete.
I don't know if they had really committed to him and done the things that accentuated his
skill set, whether or not we've seen a lot of growth.
And I'd like to see him get to play even this year in some packages to see whether or not
he's made improvements from the last time he played.
Yeah.
Eric Mangini, who summers in the North.
East.
I'm in Cape Cod.
I'm not too far from
your youth summer, right?
Yeah.
Well, about 3,000 miles.
Good seeing you, coach, as always.
All right, we'll see you.
All right, Eric Mangini.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jek.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode
where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so...
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes, I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years.
for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Whoops.
I think I'm in the minority.
I don't think James Hardin has the market that everybody thinks he has.
I don't think he has one, just the clippers.
Well, we'll talk about that in a sec.
So we opted into his player option with Philly,
and apparently they'll work together to find him a trade.
Hardin was reportedly very upset with how the team handled his potential free agency.
According to Sam Amick, Hardin felt like they were forcing him to test the market before making any kind of offer.
What's wrong with that?
Yeah, well, Houston was really upset that he got fat and it wouldn't work out with a team.
What's wrong with, hey, we're not going to make you an offer.
Go ahead, test the market.
See what you can get.
I'm over Hardin being upset.
He's not been accountable multiple times.
So Hardin has been let it known, hey, I'm upset.
I'm going to opt in, trade me.
Okay? Colin?
First of all, a couple layers to this.
Number one, like, do you think James Hardin is attractive to a lot of teams out there?
Okay, so we got that out of the game.
No tanking team or bad team like Orlando, Washington, they don't want Hardin.
Around their kids, no.
So that's like 10 teams out.
So now you've got like contenders.
Okay?
If you're the Clippers, you mention the Clippers.
Daryl, who's in Philly, has had tandums.
He believes he's talked about it on podcasts, dual superstars.
He had Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, James Hardin and Dwight Howard, James Hardin and Chris Paul.
That was in Houston.
In Philly, he had Embedin and Simmons and Beaden Hardin.
He likes two superstars.
Yeah.
If you give up Hardin, you've got to get a superstar back for Darrell Moore.
No, you don't.
See, okay.
Max, he's a 26-point-a-game guy next year.
So you think he believes, what, 23-year-old Tyrese, 22, is a star and can be the...
I've been told Jason Tatum since he was 22 is.
Okay.
And this kid's on the same scoring.
Jason Tatum's all NBA.
Stop.
Come on.
He's been to the conference finals
almost every year of his career.
He went to the NBA finals.
Maxi ain't on that level.
Okay.
So if you're Joel Embed and you look around and you're like, oh, okay, I got Tyrese
Maxie as my wingman.
You know what he's going to say?
What?
Get me out of here.
Joel Embed's going to ask out.
First of all, I would try to get Paul George because I think if you have Paul
George Maxi and MB.
Yes.
That to me works.
Can I give you, I mean, I don't know how the salaries work.
Or forgetting that Tobias Harris is a very good three.
year for.
Good player.
So the Clippers, are you doing James Hardin for Paul George?
And you say, you know what?
We'll get in the Hardin business for one year.
Then we got salary cap room next year.
We can make a run ad, X, Y.
Okay.
That to me works.
I love Paul George.
Yeah, that's very clear.
Okay, so let's say the Clippers say we're not giving you Paul George.
Where else can James Hardin go?
No, he can go to the Clippers.
You can go to the Clippers and get, if I have Maxie M. Bede and Harris and you give me
really good rotational players.
Okay.
So the rotational guys that are discussed.
Norman Powell.
Norman Powell and one of the Morris guys.
All right.
All right.
I just want Harden out of here because he's getting in the way.
You think Daryl Morey's doing that.
No,
I'm saying if you believe Maxi's a two, which I do,
you bought into Jamal Murray before others.
You did.
He is a two.
He's not a one.
He's a two.
Championship team.
The third best guy is a defensive guy.
So if I have Embed at 30 a night or 28 and Maxi at 25 and Tobias Harris at 18,
what I need is guys who will defend.
First of all, I'm getting hardened out of the building.
Okay.
That is a huge win because it allows Maxi to play more and have the ball more.
Okay.
So that's a huge win.
Secondly, Hardin gives you no defense.
So let's replace Hardin with a couple of defensive rotational players.
That's the better team tomorrow.
So just one note on the Murray Maxy thing, which you, that's a fair point.
My counter would be we've seen Murray in the playoffs go off in the bubble.
He was dropping 40 a game, a couple 50 burgers.
Maxi ain't done that.
I know his numbers were good, but he hasn't done Jamal Murray.
Very interesting point you make, Jason McIntyre.
Because I went back and looked at Maxi's playoff numbers.
Now, there's not a lot to draw from.
But I would say this year was the first year, we could say, okay, Maxie, get it in the playoffs.
He was very good.
Yeah, like a 1.30 point.
40% shooter on threes.
He was very good.
So now, do we think as a 22-year-old, he'll make another 15% jump?
Absolutely.
He's not.
He hasn't hit his ceiling yet.
So just a reminder, Joel Embed at the peak of his powers, I won the MVP.
I'm ready to contend.
Here you go.
Norm Powell, Tobias Harris, and Tyrese.
Let's go win a title against Boston, which Adiportiga.
He watches Maxi.
By the way, Maxi doesn't have that Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, who's ball.
Maxi's aggressive.
Maxi's a great shooter.
Tyrese Maxi is not one of these guys that's sitting on the fence coming down the floor.
He'll just take the ball and go right to the basket.
We got to get a maxi jersey to wear on air.
You don't like him.
I like him, but I don't think that's going to make Joel Embed happy.
And my guess would be Joel and Beed's asking out next summer if Tyrese Maxi
he's his number two. I don't think he's there. He's not there yet. You know what? That's not the
worst thing in the world. M. Bede. That's a really good point because I don't think you can win a
title building around a beat. Do you? No. He's never won a conference tie. Bid to the conference championship.
Just let that sink in. Lucas's been there. Trey Young's been there. See, David Lillard's been there.
Will you acknowledge this?
That Maxie averaged 20 points a game this year with Hardin on the floor, 25 without. Yeah.
Will you acknowledge this as he becomes, I think, 23 next year?
And he's obviously went 8, 17, 25 with Hardin out the floor.
That Maxiel averaged 24 and a half points a game next year.
24.
And if you're, by the way, he's going to average 20.
Dude, he averaged 20 this year, 18 this year, and he didn't have the ball in his hand.
Because Hardin's a ball hogger.
Right. So let's say he average is 23.
That's more than, what did Murray average?
Murray average.
20, yeah.
And by the way, he's a much twitchier athlete.
than Murray. He's not as big, but he's twitchier and faster.
Are you talking yourself into Maxi over Murray?
I think he's really good.
He's a really good player.
He's ascending. Can we just leave it at that?
All right, let's get to another knucklehead in the league.
Not Tyree's Maxie, of course.
Kyrie Irving, he's going to hit the open market yesterday, just as our show was ending.
Kyrie Irving let it be known.
You know, he went to Chris Haynes and said, hey, I'm going to meet with Phoenix to start
free agency.
Phoenix can only offer Kyrie a veteran minimum
contract at the moment.
Veteran minimum,
according to reporters.
But they also could acquire him
through a sign and trade
that would force them to send away
likely D'Andre Ait.
No way in a million years.
This is one of those
fake news.
Well, it's also bad news
if you are the Dallas Maverous
because you know what's in
Kyrie's head.
I want a lot of years
on my contract.
I don't think this is going to end well
for Luke and Dallas.
Your guy, Mark Cuban,
royally.
has butchered this since screwing up
the Jalen Brunson situation?
I mean, they lost Brunson for nothing.
They let Brunson, who's
an alpha in New York, let him walk out the door for nothing,
and now you've got this guy.
I know, you know what's funny about the Knicks?
I had, I was, when you left last night,
a Knicks fan took your spot.
Oh, wow.
Very engaging.
And, you know, if you look at this,
sometimes what starts momentum
in a basketball team or a football team
is somebody else's mistake.
It really is.
The New York
Nick's, I think you're going to have a great eight-year run
because of Jalen Brunson. I think he'll be the
two and they'll go get a Carl Anthony Towns or
somebody. But
when you say, like, the Knicks kind of
stole Jalen Brunson, if you go back and look
at history, I think you'd be surprised
how often you'd just
take advantage of somebody else's mistake.
I mean, by the way, look how many teams
passed on Patrick Mahomes. Ten other
teams, mistake.
So,
anyway, I'm just kind of rambling.
How's this? If Darry
calls up Dallas and says,
hey, you want James Hardin?
We'll take Kyrie. No, God, no.
Oh, geez.
He has to be on a team with guys that defend.
Paul George and Kauai defend.
So the reason Hardin works in L.A., he's from L.A.
Second is, James gives you no defense,
but they've got a rim protector
and two good defensive wings.
The problem with Luke is you can't play him
with Kyrie because Kyrie and Luke are both
horrible defensive players.
When Steph Curry, they identified
very early, but he's not much of an
offensive player. Clay Thompson did.
Draymond Green. By the way, they went and got
Andre Iguodala did. Gary Payton.
Number Bogot was the rim protector in
19 2016. They drafted guys that would
pick up the deficiency of their star.
If you go look at LeBron in Miami,
he wasn't a great three-point shooter
at that point. So they went and got
Badiye, Mike Miller, Ray
Allen, very smart of Pat
Riley saying, here's the one thing
LeBron isn't. We're going to protect
him. Steph Curry, not a great
defender will protect him. The Mavericks have to protect Luca. He's a poor defensive player
and because he's ball-centric, it wears him down. You just, I've argued this. He doesn't need
another star. Go get him four guys that can defend. He with Paul George or AD would be great.
So it's a bit of a truth bomb here. So we just talked about Kyrie Irving and James Harden, two
point cards. There's another point card, Dame Lillard, who could be on the move. And Colin, it seems like
These are three supposedly superstar point cards, and nobody wants them.
That's what it seems like to me.
I don't know about you.
But why isn't Dame Liller on the move yet?
What's the hold on, Miami?
Okay, let me ask you.
Do you believe that I do that the NBA tends to be cyclical?
So it went back to the basket centers won titles.
Then it was the Kobe Michael wing era, three and D guys, wing guys.
Then it was small ball.
I mean, a lot of people try their, I mean, nine years, four titles, it worked.
The league got smaller and faster in more three-point shooting.
Now the league, I believe, last two to three years has pivoted back to size.
Janus, Lopez, Celtics, or Zingas.
It's becoming a size league with these European bigs that are highly skilled.
Denver's big.
Phoenix now.
They want to keep Aiden.
They want to keep their size.
Lakers are big.
Who do they keep?
They're going to keep Rui, A.D.
LeBron.
Austin Reeves plays big.
They want size.
So I think the league's becoming a size league and who loses there.
Like running backs in the NFL as the league became a passing league,
flashy point guards that don't win in the postseason outside of Steph Curry are on the outs in the NBA.
It's beginning a big man's league again, a highly skilled big league.
You can have Dame, Pardon, or Kyrie, who you got?
Who would you make a play for?
Dame, not even close.
Not even close.
All right, final story.
The New Orleans Saints have been trying to find their next franchise quarterback since Drew Breeze.
Retired in 2020.
This year they're hoping Derek Car's that guy.
And tight end, Juan Johnson,
sees flashes of breeze in his new quarterback.
It honestly felt like we've been working with Derek for quite a while now.
And so OTAs was really good, really smooth.
And, you know, he's giving me more of a feel because he's an older guy.
He's giving me a lot of Drew, you know, going into the huddle,
commending the huddle, the guy's gravitating to him.
These are things I've seen how Drew conducted the huddle, how Drew conducted the offense and things like that.
So it's giving me similar feels.
And so I'm really excited about what Derek has and how he's going to move this offense.
Angry players are good players.
Derek's angry.
He got rejected.
They made his wife cry in Vegas.
You know he's going to play well.
So wait, Bryce Young reminds people of Drew Breeze.
Two-off.
Reminds people of Drew Breeze.
Derek Carr.
How many other quarter?
Is Drew Bree is the new guy?
He's a comp.
You know what they're saying in sports media?
That guy reminds me a McIntyre.
The perfect wingman.
Oh, that's the next McIntyre.
I think I'm hearing that out there.
Are you hearing that?
Not at all, but I like your optimism for your professional attention.
J-MAC with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
No, I mean, there was a story this week where the Raiders make Derek Carr's wife
cry. I was like, oh, angry. That's personal. Angry players. You're going to go to New Orleans,
play well. You know what I do now on my off days here? I'm trying to lie. I told you,
I'm down to all my NFL predictions. I've only got like two dilemmas, three dilemmas.
Chargers Broncos. I'm not sure where to go. I'm just going to watch camp and watch for injuries.
Saints, Panthers. I'm kind of leaning Saints now, Panthers Wild Card, and Ravens Steelers.
And again, Baltimore, the last three years has fallen apart physically.
So I'm going to watch, I want to watch Camp.
And the Denver Charger one is so hard because I just know what Sean Payton is done with James, Breeze, Teddy.
And I'm like, well, what's you going to do with Russell?
Did you say Panthers and Saints?
Saints are better.
You're forgetting a team in that division.
No, don't give me Atlanta.
So I had Warren Sharp, you know, Warren Sharp, who we talked about.
on my pod.
Very smart person.
He bet over eight Atlanta.
Now it's eight and a half.
The schedule,
the quarterbacks faced,
the coach,
Kyle Pitts,
Bejohn, Tony Al J.
or, sorry,
Tyler Algier,
the running back.
Well, they got a receiver from
Drake London,
I believe, from the West.
Listen, they got some dudes.
It all falls upon the shoulders
of your buddy,
Desmond Ritter.
Not my buddy.
I'm not saying it's bad.
It's just,
I don't see a ton there,
but who knows?
It's just, you know.
Falcons?
I think I'm going to be.
I'm going to have them as my number seven playoff team in the NFC.
Seven.
Well, there's got you.
I like your courage, because there's going to be somebody we go, the hell?
And Atlanta would be that team.
And the NFC is where that team, what the hell is going to come from?
Because the NFC is weak.
And AFC is just stacked.
I think the AFC is easier to predict because it's where most of the great quarterbacks are.
Just, I mean, just as a rule, if you want to win, when you want to bet at a bar,
just take the best quarterbacks in the AFC for the next seven years.
you're going to mostly win the bets.
In the NFC, Jalen Hertz has become a very good player.
After that, I mean, I like golf more than you.
We don't agree on anybody.
I like Stafford and golf more than you do.
Well, I loved Stafford in the past coming off.
You think he's shot?
I don't say, come on.
I know a lot of guys close to Stafford.
I don't think he's shot at all.
I just think the offseason was a little more tumultuous with his contract than people,
then that's out there in the media.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Here's a story.
So Kyrie Irving now desperate is just leaking stories that are nonsense.
First, there was Kyrie Irving going to visit Phoenix.
Phoenix is not going to land Kyrie Irving.
Now Kyrie Irving may try to gauge the 76ers interest amid James Harden Trade buzz, according to Brian Winhorse.
Daryl Morey's not bringing on headcase Kyrie Irving.
No way.
This is a desperate player leaking stuff because there's no market for Kyrie Irving.
None.
He tried to leak stuff about the Lakers, not interested.
Leak stuff now about the 76ers, not interested.
Leak stuff about the Suns, not interested.
This is just a player that's desperate that has no market.
they're trying to drum it up.
Kyrie's got nobody to blame, but Kyrie.
At least, you know, you can, Hardin can be erratic, but Hardin works.
He just doesn't work in the postseason.
Hardin facilitates.
He gives you points.
I would take Hardin every day of the week over Kyrie, and I'm not a hardened guy.
But he can give you 20 and 10.
He's going to, you know, when he's healthy, he'll show up.
Not going to give you any defense.
He's not a leader.
But Kyrie's falling into the erratic.
erratic. And I think
Kyrie's so arrogant and lack self-awareness.
He just thinks, I'll always have a market.
Lakers said no.
Sons aren't interested. If Philadelphia signs
him, shame on you.
Yeah.
The NBA is looking at
boring Denver, boring Milwaukee.
They're starting to look. And you know what?
They're pushing back finally on
toxic. Memphis,
toxic. Dallas end of the year with
Kyrie. Toxic.
Brooklyn. Toxic.
Doesn't work.
So Kyrie picked a bad time to get erratic the last three years.
It's more international players, more mature players, more bigs, more low drama.
The league is pivoting.
There was a time when you could just sell talent.
Nobody wants the toxicity of Kyrie Irving.
He's too erratic.
By the way, Westbrook can't stand a team.
And Westbrook plays his butt off and is productive and plays hard.
I mean, Westbrook's not my favorite player, but Russell Westbrook gives you 30-some minutes,
He plays hard.
He's productive.
Again, I wish he was a guard who had better hands and can shoot better.
But he plays hard.
Steph, no drama.
Janice, no drama.
I mean, Yokic, Murray, no drama.
The only drama Durant has is arguing with J-Mack on that hell site Twitter.
No, no.
Well, yeah.
Okay.
So I went and did the Cowboys earlier today.
So I was looking at the Jet schedule.
Because we all take the schedule out, win, win, win, win.
So I had the Cowboys winning every game as a favorite except the Jets game, and I had them at 10 and 7.
So the Cowboys last year went 9 and 3 as a favorite.
This year I'd have them going like 9 in 1 or 10 in 1.
So I looked at the Jets schedule and just hear me out.
So the reason I have them losing the Buffalo game is this.
Buffalo was humiliated at home.
Their hair is going to be on fire.
They bring back the same offensive system for the second year.
Buffalo has got something to prove.
This is a team that ended and has been lampooned and mocked and I rolled all off season.
So Buffalo is winning that.
That's a tough early draw.
They are ticked off and they're bringing all the guys back on offense and they've upgraded
at tight end.
They've upgraded it running back.
So that's a loss.
Wait, wait, hold on.
They upgraded more than the Jets getting Aaron Rogers at quarterback?
Yeah, but you won seven games.
They won like 13.
They're a better team.
We got a two-time MVP.
They got what?
right guard? You have a bad O line. They have a good defront. And they have a star quarterback
too. We have a good defront as well. Okay. So lost there. Then I'll give you a win at Dallas and
New England. Generous of you. You're not beaten Kansas City at Denver, Philly. It's your toughest three
games of the season. You're losing all of them. By the way, P.S., they went to Denver last year and won.
Yeah, with Nathaniel Hacking. And they faced a back of a quarterback. Yeah, yeah. Okay, then I'm going to
give you a three-game winning streak. You're going to beat the Giants and the Chargers who are better.
and the Raiders.
Then I have a two-game losing streak at Buffalo.
Miami's going to have your number.
You're going to own the Patriots.
You're going to split with the bills.
Miami's going to get your number this year.
Miami's going to beat you in New York.
You're not going to win all these favorite games.
Yeah, Tua loves cold weather.
Then you're going to win five straight.
You're going to win Atlanta.
No, you're going to win.
Hold on.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
I'm going to give you five straight wins there.
I'm going to even give you at Miami win, and then you lose last game at New England.
So I said you sweep him, no, you don't.
I'm letting you win at Miami.
I'm not letting you win at New England and Miami.
And so that's 10 and 7, and that's where I see.
I just want to just say those two words.
Do you remember how bad Zach Wilson was last year?
Do you remember the disaster in New England?
One of the most unwatchable games in recent NFL memory.
It was like 3-3 for 59 minutes in.
55 seconds.
Aaron was 8 and 9 in the significantly weaker division, weaker NFC.
How was he the two years before that?
Well, that's not.
That's two years ago.
It's irrelevant.
Yeah.
So he won eight games last year.
Now he goes to a significantly better division, significantly better coaching,
significantly better conference, significantly worse O line and a defensive coach.
I'm giving him 10 and you're upset.
Only 10 wins?
Wait, let's see.
Are they going to put the wins up?
I thought I counted 11.
They don't have a number one receiver.
Gara Wilson, he just made the under 25 best team in the league, according to you.
Doesn't mean he's a one.
Oh, come on.
What, do you have 1100 yards last year?
Catching passes from three stiffs?
And now you got Aaron Rogers lobbing him the ball?
And they got Alan Lazard to take attention away.
Let's just be honest about the Buffalo game.
Come on.
That is a pissed Buffalo franchise.
Yeah, you're right.
The Jets are just soft and happy.
Well, no, but everybody right now is kumbaya.
Aaron's teach Aaron's a wizard.
He's a sorcerer.
Yeah, yeah.
He's going to Broadway plays.
Yeah, yeah.
Tony Awards, yeah.
But you're getting an angry Buffalo team.
So I got news for you.
I'm taking Buffalo.
We're going to have to have some kind of bet on that game.
I'm giving you a win at Dallas and at Miami.
You're going to be an underdog in both of those.
Money pouring in on the Jets in week one.
Line down, baby.
