Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

All right. Here we go.
our number two in a Thursday NFL draft tonight.
This is the herd.
Wherever you may be, however you may be listening.
Thanks for making us part of your day.
Such a fun time.
Such a fun time.
So I'm going to do a mock draft with no trades.
I'm not going to try to speculate.
My belief is there are not enough great players to trade up for,
even the top edge rusher, Will Anderson.
You know, there are rumors now he's slum.
because people are not quite sure if he's just a pass rusher.
You know, he did a regress a little this year.
We love Jalen Carter, but Jalen Carter's got baggage.
Some franchises want no part of that.
We've got a couple of two good corners are either great.
We've got good quarterbacks, but even Bryce Young looks tiny.
So I don't think, I don't believe in the top eight to ten,
you're going to have a lot of movement up.
I think people are going to sit back.
They're going to do a Chargers.
They're going to do a Tom Telesco.
They're just going to sit.
and wait and see what falls.
I'm not giving up draft capital for,
I've been told by two GMs in this league
that it's the shallowest first round they can remember.
There's just not a lot of stars.
Usually you get to about pick 17, 18,
and you got like, those guys are going to play,
and then you wish everybody else was a second round salary.
This draft is closer to 11 to 12 guys who feel like first round pick.
So in that case, if it's a shallow first round,
That doesn't mean it's not going to be an exciting draft.
There's a lot of quarterbacks in it.
And I think it'll be an exciting draft.
But I don't think it's worth giving up a lot of draft capital to move up to get good edge rushers.
We don't have even a Hutchison this year.
We don't have a Bosa.
So that's my takeaway is I think the teams are going to sit back mostly, even the
quarterbacks.
Next year you'd move up for Caleb Williams or a Drake May.
You'd give up five, six, seven picks.
Those are move up to get guys.
is Will Levis a move up?
I mean, Indianapolis has holes to solve.
They're going to give up four picks?
They can't.
They need them.
Yeah.
The uncertainty is exciting.
I think there's going to be a big ratings number for the draft tonight.
But I do want to point out, Colin, if I looked it up, last like five years,
there have not been a lot of draft day tradeups into the top five or top ten.
If you want to move up, you get up early and really control the draft of who you want at the top.
Okay.
So here we go.
This is, I'm going to do no trades.
I'm just going to give you the top 10, and I'm going to give you a reason why I think everybody makes their pick.
Are we ready to go on this?
Let's go number one.
I think the Panthers have used eight different starting quarterbacks over the last five seasons.
They're going to stabilize the position and get Bryce Young.
Again, how great is he?
I don't know.
I think he stabilizes it.
If you look at what the franchise did in the offseason, from the head coach to the assistant coaches to the staff,
they built an organization ready to help and assist and protect a quarterback.
And so I think Carolina is doing it the right way.
They built a staff that's very quarterback friendly.
They'll get Bryce Young.
I think the Texans are going to go get Jalen Carter with the second pick.
I think he's the best player I saw.
Their defense last year was pathetic against the rush, last in the league.
They have a defensive coach to Miko Ryan's in 12 picks.
I think he's going to use this draft to fix the defense and then next year go get a quarterback.
They were so bad through the middle defensively and Jalen Carter I think solves it.
I think the Cardinals then get Will Anderson.
So they had a couple of defensive line losses.
J.J. Watts now into broadcasting, Zach Allen went to the Broncos.
So they need people up front in that division where you got Kyle Shanahan and you got Sean McVeigh.
you're going to have players up front.
They have a new coach. He's a defensive coach.
And they allowed 52 touchdowns last year.
That was second to the Bears.
So again, I don't know how Goodwill Anderson is.
Certainly an argument he's the best edge rusher.
You don't have to move up to get him.
Arizona takes him at three.
I think the Colts get Will Levis, the quarterback.
Here's why.
They've had Matt Ryan, unathletic average arm.
They've had Philip Rivers, unathletic, old, okay arm.
he gives them a little bit of Andrew Luck.
Bright, athletic, can move, nice arm.
I think if you squint, you can see a little Andrew Luck,
and I think that's enough for Jim Ursay.
Number five, the Seahawks.
I think they could move down potentially if they didn't like people,
but Tyree Wilson, you got to have an edge rusher,
and I think they go get him.
Is he ready to play?
I don't know.
But the last time they had a double-digit sack guy in Seattle
was Frank Clark and that's five years ago.
So Pete Carroll's a defensive coach.
His best teams at USC and Seattle had good edge rushers.
I think that's their pick.
The Lions pick six.
Again, I'm doing no move up.
I'm going to do Christian Gonzalez, the physical specimen corner from Oregon.
Last year, they were atrocious against the path.
They had bad corners, third worst pass defense.
Also, they traded in the offseason their former number three overall pick,
Jeff Akuta, the corner.
So I think they stabilized corner.
They went in the off-season and solved some of their corner issues,
but I think this is where they go.
Then I think they go to the interior, their D-Line in later rounds.
The Raiders get Devon Witherspoon the corner from Illinois.
They have a bad secondary.
So they're going to take a corner.
I don't, again, maybe they'd trade up, but they got Garoppolo for a year.
I think they can go get a Max Duggan later at quarterback and let him sit behind Jimmy for a couple of years.
but they allowed the highest passer rating in the NFL last year for quarterbacks.
They got to get better at Corner and they get one.
Now my surprise, Falcons take Bejohn Robinson the running back.
Here's why.
Offensive coach.
They've got their tight end.
They've got their left tack.
They have good cat tackles.
Young running back fills the bill.
It'll help Desmond Ritter or the quarterback next year.
I've been told he is as clean as any draft pick.
checks every single box, a little Ladani and Tomlinson.
He can catch, he can run, he stays healthy, he's coachable, he will play day one.
And they're looking at building this offense behind Arthur Smith.
So the O line was top five in the league last year.
They don't have an absolute need there.
They do need to get other receivers later in the draft.
But I think they're setting it up.
They want to see what they have with Desmond Ritter and an offensive coach.
If he can play, he can't.
If not, with these offensive pieces, there's no excuses plus an offensive coach.
Nine, the Bears stay local, get the best overall offensive lineman.
Peter Skoronsky, the Northwestern kid.
He can play guard, tackle, probably play center.
Justin Fields was the most sack quarterback in the league.
Here's why I like him.
He's such a high-functioning Northwestern kid, like a Rashaun Slater.
He'll come in and start.
A lot of people forget last year they played a rookie at Levin's.
tackle, a kid named Braxton Jones. So I don't think they're going to get a tackle. He was the ninth
highest-graded left tackle as a rookie at a southern Utah. So I would argue they feel they've got
their tackle for the next four years and don't have to pay him. They're not very good on the
interior or the O-line. Keep it local with a Northwestern kid who will play immediately. And number 10,
the Eagles, who was complaining last year for Philadelphia's offense about not getting the ball?
A.J. Brown, Howie Roseman says, you know what? We're going to get a receiver. Jackson, Smith,
and Jigba out of Ohio State. He's a great slot receiver. Last year, Kwez Watkins, I think,
didn't he do some Eagles slot receiving work? I think they're going to go get this kid.
A.J. Brown started grumbling last year because they used the tight ends a lot and Donovan Smith
that he wasn't getting the touches. So the Eagles protect themselves. They get perhaps the only
first round receiver grade out there.
Some people like Jordan Addison.
Some people like Flowers.
They get at BC, the TCU receiver.
That's kind of what I would go.
Now, mine doesn't have any trades.
I got no trades.
Okay, let's bring in Daniel Jeremiah, NFL network analyst.
Live coverage tonight starting 8 Eastern.
Was there anything in my mock that you thought was outrageously bad?
Just pick apart the pick that doesn't make sense.
No, I think you did a good job.
Colin. I think that was well thought out. I thought you explained everything extremely well.
The one thing I would push back on was Seattle with the edge rusher thing.
Darrell Taylor, I believe, had nine last year. He's a good young player. They bring in Chenin
Nuwosu last year who played pretty well for him. And they drafted Boye-Mafé pretty high last year.
So I feel like they've got three good young players in that mix along the edge.
So, I mean, that would be the only thing I would maybe push back on a little bit, but I like
your thought process everywhere else. And the fact that Peter Skoranski is going to spend draft
night at a pizzeria in Chicago and getting picked by the Bears just feels like that's meant to
happen.
CJ Stroud is interesting.
And Daniel, you're a former scout with a couple of teams.
My issue is this.
Ohio State, it's different in the SEC.
Or even if you're at Alabama, you're facing NFL guys at LSU, Auburn, Georgia.
But at Ohio State, outside of the Michigan game, you often have a decided athletic advantage.
Quarterbacks for Ohio State sit in a comfortable pocket, predetermined reads to
dominant receivers. I just question how much of this offense is C.J. Stroud, how much is the
unbelievable talent disparity the Buckeyes have? What say you on that? Well, I think it's a good
discussion, but I think it's one that happens outside of Ohio State. I mean, we could have had
the same conversation about the run on Clemson quarterbacks if you looked at what they were playing
with against who they were playing with in the ACC. So, you know, and sometimes it's been accurate.
I mean, that was one of the things about Zach Wilson, right?
Zach Wilson at BYU.
Every team they played on their schedule, they had more talent than everybody they played that year.
So I think this is a conversation we're going to run into year after year.
I think you've got to be careful not to lump him in with the other guys.
And scouting, we talk about, hey, don't scout the helmet.
You've got to scout the player.
I think he has the skill set required to play the position at a high level.
Now, you've got to get comfortable and know the kid, bring him in and pass that part of the process.
We can't do that from the outside.
The team's got to do that from the inside.
But as a player on the field, I think he has all the skills that you need.
Is there a player to you?
And there is some paralysis by analysis here.
But is there a player that's been a little undervalued that you see moving up potentially?
Yeah, there's definitely some guys like that.
I mean, for me, when you look at Quentin Johnston from TCU, he dropped some balls this year.
And that bothered me.
And if you look at the track record of big 12 wide receivers, you know,
similar discussions, the one we just had, it's not great.
And I feel like he's been punished for that.
But at some point in time, like, okay, he's been punished enough.
Like how far down is he going to end up going?
I think he's still got a good chance to get back into round number one.
I think there was a time where maybe that wasn't a consideration.
I think by the time the night's over tonight, he'll hear his name called.
So my prediction is Monday.
We're going to like the Packers draft a lot because they have three needs.
tight end, it's a great tight end class.
Edge, a lot of good edge rushers.
And it's not a great, it's not a great receiving class.
But they may use their first pick and go get a receiver.
So my prediction is we're going to like what Green Bay did.
Houston, by the way, has 12 picks.
My theory is D'Amico Ryan is going to just solve the defense.
You can win in this league with a young defense.
Kansas City did it this year.
That'll allow him to go either get a quarterback next year
or spend money next year.
experienced offensive guys.
But you have the Texans going with C.J. Stroud.
So let me ask you a question.
Jalen Carter.
Yeah.
Where's he going? Why?
He's just too good to fall too far.
He's the most talented player in the draft.
He was my number one player going to the combine.
You come off the tape.
To me, his tape jumps more than anybody else.
He has superstar ability, top five at his position type talent.
But obviously what we
found out and the issue off the field was pretty major and that's something that, you know,
I didn't want to diminish. So I dropped him a little bit down on my list and, and recognize
the fact that there's risk here. But as a player, I have no issues. And I would push back a little
bit, Colin, on some of the critique he's got about, oh, it's, you know, his motor and his effort
and all that kind of stuff. I'm like, well, I go back and look at my notes. I don't see any evidence
of that. I think a guy that gets hurt, he's hurt his ankle the first game, hurts his knee later
in the season, keeps coming back, keeps playing. You know how easy it would have been for him,
just shut it down. Say, I'm a top five
pick. Like, what are we doing here? I don't need to play
hurt. Let's just shut this thing down. I think
this guy likes football and
that's a good place to start and that can
have an impact on behavior. When you
find out something you love and there's a risk of that
being taken away from you, that can have
an impact on behavior. So you
and I both have Bejan Robinson
going to Atlanta. My staff shows me
so I talked to two executives
in the league and they said he was
about as clean a player as the
draft had in the first round. Like
catch, run, coachable, good kid would play dinged up.
I think Atlanta, with their offensive coach, is setting the table to see A, can Desmond
Ritter play?
We're going to get him weapons, no excuses.
If he can't, we're going to go get one of the guys next year.
So the beat, like, what's the comp on him?
Is he in the Zeke?
Is he more Jonathan Taylor?
Is he more Sequin Barclay?
Like, for you to have him eight, you must think of him, this comps must be great players.
Yeah, for me, Colleen, he's my third overall player, and my comp was Edger and James.
Oh, wow.
I went in the way back machine a little bit, and that's who he reminded him of.
That's who he's built like.
That's how he moves.
That's how he plays.
That's a versatility that he has.
And I feel like there's not all running backs, right?
But there's some of these guys, the special ones, that we need to pull them out of that
running back pile, the Christian McCaffrey types, and say, look, this is an offensive weapon.
If we're going to say Debo Samuel, majors as a wide out and minors as a running back,
This is just the opposite.
This is the guy who can major as a running back, but can minor as a receiver.
You can move them all around as a chess piece.
And I tend to believe that the San Francisco 49ers are pretty smart team.
And to see them move resources like they did for Christian McCaffrey and see the impact that he had once he got to San Francisco.
I still think there's value for these types of running backs, not all running backs, not the three yards in a cloud of dust types.
But guys like this, the versatile chess pieces, absolutely, I think there's value.
All right.
We both like Bryce Young going number.
one. I do think size matters. Gary Payton said on this show, let's stay at a non-prototype guys
out of your top 10 picks. Tua was a little small. Herbert was big. How have they lasted? I think
if you're Carolina though, if you look at the infrastructure, they've created, it's about as good as
you can do for a rookie quarterback. Okay, so my take on Bryce Young, he'll stabilize the position,
and he'll be good, but by year two and three, I'd be drafting a quarterback in later rounds,
because I don't think he lasts.
I really, I hate to say that.
I don't.
How do you project him?
Well, I think he's clearly the best one in this draft.
I wish he was bigger like everybody else does.
It is ironic when you go from having the biggest specimen at the position in the league in Cam Newton for all those years that go into a Super Bowl.
Now you're going to have the smallest quarterback in the league here.
It's quite a juxtaposition there.
But I think if you just looked at the notes, Colin, you covered up the names and the size.
And I read you Joe Burroughs notes and I read you Bryce Young's.
notes, you wouldn't be able to see much difference there. I mean, I think he's an outstanding
player. Now, the ability to hold up, how many of these quarterbacks are holding up? I said,
Justin Herbert doing the Charger games get his ribs cracked last year. Like, these guys,
you know, they're all going to get beat up. He's going to miss some games. But I went back
and charted the times he got hit last year, Colin. There were 18 hits that would either
been flags, fines, or suspensions in the NFL. In the SEC, they just wait for his
teammate to help him off the ground. So Seattle is the team that's interesting. Could you see Seattle
doing this? So to your point is they've got a bunch of young edge rushers. They have yet to pop,
but they've got him. What if Seattle did this? This would be so unpeak Carol. This would be if Pete says
listen. Pete says, listen. We got two issues here. I like my young edge rushers. We got to get another
receiver and we got to clean up the interior of our old line. What if they went and got the Northwestern
kid Skoronsky. I cannot see Pete
going interior O-line, but he
grades so high. Does that seem
let me see, let me see who you have for Seattle.
Okay, you have
Jaylen. I had some fun with Seattle.
Okay, let's say Jalen Carter does not drop
to him. Let's say he doesn't. So take him off the
board. Who does you tell me who Seattle takes?
There's a lot of people telling me corner that they
love Devin Witherspoon. You know, he's not the
prototypical, you know, tall, long corner
that they've played with. And then you do
your research. The last first round corner they took with
Kelly Jennings. So as much as I love him, and he's one of my favorite players, I don't see them,
you know, going corner. They haven't had to take corners high. Skoranski, I think, would be a heck of a
pick. I think in a draft with so much uncertainty, I think he's plug and play. I think you know
exactly what you're getting with him. It is maybe the least sexy pick you could make there.
But in a draft with so much uncertainty, Colin, I feel like I've got a dude that I don't have to
worry about for the next 10 years. Yeah, they got their tackles last year, but they're a little
sketchy on the interior O line. God, that's good stuff. Daniel Jeremiah, NFL network starting
tonight at 8 Eastern. We are locked and ready to go, my friend. Thank you so much for coming on.
I know you're busy today. Thank you, Daniel. I appreciate. Hey, quarterbacks and chaos. That's all we root for,
buddy, and we've got it. Tire fires on the 405. That's all we want, man. Great seeing you.
You know, some GMs like Tom Telesco at the Chargers has done a great job of waiting for the
draft to come to him. Howie Roseman has been very aggressive. Seattle, to me, is fascinating because
they don't have a lot of needs. I don't buy into the CJ Stroud because C.J. Stroud to me is
Gino Smith. Pocket, tall, throw strikes. I've got that. Gino's not old. I got three years and they
just paid Gino. So I don't need, I think, I think Pete looks at it and thinks, Gino won't lose me games.
Gino may not win me a lot of them. Pete's also, does he want to go?
with a project, Anthony Richardson?
I can see him doing that. That plays into Pete's history.
But, I mean, if you're asking me, if I'm Seattle and I say, I got my running back,
we're good enough Noah fan at tight end, I've got my tackles, I need a receiver,
can I clean up the interior O line?
That only helps Gino Smith.
I know it's not a sexy pick.
I'd love to see that kid go to Chicago, though.
Wouldn't that be great?
That's exactly what the bears need.
Again, just to drill down on Stroud v. Smith, it's less about
the talent at quarterback. It's more about the money savings at quarterback that you can then reallocate
all across the board to level up on the offensive line. I know. You love the interior. Yeah. I just like
playing with my quarterback on a rookie deal. Okay. That's great. And saving a bleep ton of money. Yeah. Yeah. And we did
that with golf and the Super Bowl and they got three points. You know who won the Super Bowl? Brady. But they
got to the Super Bowl. Seattle would kill to get to a Super Bowl. I think Pete wants to get to the playoffs and
they're throwing a party in the city. Pete's been to two Super Bowls. He wants the way to go.
He wants to win.
He's now what, is he 85 years old?
Sorry, he's 70.
He is the youngest 70-year-old man in America.
First of all, he won a national title at USC, a couple of them.
He won a Super Bowl.
Pete's not in this thing to make the playoffs.
Right, he wants to win a Super Bowl.
And the best path to a Super Bowl currently in the NFL is your quarterback on a rookie deal
and spending everywhere else or you have Patrick Mahomes.
They just paid Gino.
Right.
You pay him this year, then you get out of the contract and your quarterback is cheap.
You think Anthony Richardson's ready to play?
I didn't say Richardson.
I said Stroud.
Stroud looks ready to play.
Maybe not this year.
You think Stroud's better than Gino?
I don't.
No, but Colin, Brock Purdy got the 49ers within a whisper of the Super Bowl.
The 49ers have the smartest offensive coach, not named Andy Reed in the world.
They also have nine Hall of Famers.
The Seahawks are a young team.
They need a little bit of an old quarterback.
They're a bunch of kids everywhere.
Five of their best seven players are like kids.
All right.
All right.
I mean, Niners are different.
you got Kiddles old and McCaffrey's old.
Trent Williams is old.
Those are like veterans.
If McCaffrey's old, I'm getting collecting AARP right now.
No, I'm talking about these are veteran NFL guys.
They've been in the league forever.
Trent Williams, George Kittles, Christian McCaffrey.
All right.
You can have a young quarterback with an experienced coach.
Pete's got a young football team.
Gino's actually a bit of a sage compared to these kids.
I don't want to go younger at quarterback.
I want to load up on free agency with some veterans on offense maybe.
I don't know.
My thing is, we know Gino's not great,
but man, when you watch what Pete likes...
Well, we know he's not great, okay?
He exceeded all expectations last year.
I know.
You know, but if week five, Gino Smith has regressed to the Gino Smith we know for nine years.
No, he won't.
Definitely not.
How do we know this was not an outlier?
How do we know?
We don't know that.
But I would say all those Seattle Seahawk picks last year that were great,
you think they're going to regress?
year two. Pete's known as a great
Pete's one of the best teachers
in the sport. Pete's
guys, young players at USC and in Seattle,
they get better every year. So like all those
young Seattle players, the tackles, the running
back, the corners, they're going to be better this year.
I think they're the second best team in the NFC West. Would you
agree? I think they're better than
the Rams going into the season. I think there's an argument if they have
another solid draft. They're the third best
team in the NFC after Philly and San Francisco.
They're going into a draft of 11 picks, I think.
and they have, they need another receiver.
With Detroit.
We're forgetting about Detroit.
Seattle.
Who made the playoffs?
Detroit.
How do I know Detroit's going to regress?
Their history is they will regress.
Pete's history isn't, my young guys will all get worse.
That's not Pete's history.
You went from loving Jared Goff to now.
How do we know they won't regret?
Regress.
Dan Campbell and Pete Carroll.
Edge to Pete Carroll.
Correct.
Right.
And I.
Jared Goff or Gino Smith?
Jared Goff.
Okay.
Okay.
Defense.
Seattle.
Wait a minute.
History, culture.
Didn't they give up 45 points to the Niners in a playoff game?
A lot of people got rolled by the Niners.
Also, the Lions go see what they did to Aaron Rogers twice last year.
It's funny, I didn't see them on TV when the playoffs started.
Where were they?
What was Detroit?
Because I saw Seattle in the playoffs.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Jason McIntyre with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So much happening, we barely talked about the Lakers.
You know, they got within one in the third quarter,
and then Darvinham vomited all over himself.
Grizzlies took over for the 116-99 win.
Game 6 Friday here at the Crypt.
I assume you'll be in attendance.
Oh, no, I'm watching the draft.
Friday night, I'm talking about.
Oh no, Friday night I'm watching the draft.
Over Lakers, Chris.
Well, I mean, I have two TVs.
You have multiple televisions, yes, thank goodness.
Geez.
Desmond Bain is, he's talking that smack after a really good performance.
He had 33 points, 10 boards, five assists.
He's confident.
They'll send the series to game seven.
Yeah, we got to come with the right, you know, edge and the right road mentality.
But, you know, I set it out there and I'll say it again.
You know, we're going to be back for a game seven in front of the best fans in the NBA.
Can I throw this at you?
I do like Desmond Bain, so just know that before you throw something at me.
So as I watched John Morant last night, every basket is spectacular.
Every floater, his 44-inch verticals on display.
There are no easy baskets.
Everything is all hyper-athletic.
As great as Michael Jordan was or LeBron or Kobe, about twice a night, maybe three times,
they would go penthouse.
They would go upstairs.
they would go, wow, jaw dropping.
Yeah.
Every basket for jaw is spectacular.
You cannot last doing that.
He's on the floor too much.
Every single basket has to be beautiful and wild and dynamic and vertical.
It doesn't last.
It's Derek Rose.
Sometimes you need 28 with one dunk.
Like every...
And by the way, he's great to watch.
I love watching Joll.
But I do not think he's a one.
I do not...
I think he's a brilliant.
brilliant too, that you'll not be able to trust him physically going forward.
I've said it before.
Steph Curry is really spectacular player.
And so because of his three-point shooting expertise and his style, a lot of his stuff is
kind of spectacular.
But I would say less than 50%.
When's the last time Josh just had a layup or a mid-range jumper?
When I watched them, even the all-time greatest players, LeBron gets, of his 30 points he'll get in the game,
26 are just layup package, mid-range jumper, open three, not even leaving the floor.
Well, he's 38.
No, no, but even in his early days, it was mostly freight train stuff.
He was physically better.
I just watched Jaws game.
And I say this about Justin Fields, the Bears quarterback.
He's a great YouTube quarterback.
90% of plays by Mahomes, 90, maybe 95%, are hitting a 12-yard curl,
are hitting somebody in the flat.
Twice a game, Mahomes goes left-handed, arm angle, over the top,
go to the Super Bowl.
He had two unbelievable plays.
One of them was that limping 26-7-yard run.
But most of Mahomes' stuff, those two red zone touchdowns on trick plays,
he just threw it perfectly to a wide-open guy.
Like, I just watched John.
I'm like, it's not going to last.
Yeah.
Derek Rose is not a bad comparison.
I was thinking along the lines of like an Iverson-type player
who crashes to the floor a lot, Russell Westbrook.
But Rose is a good one.
Because, you know, all that leaping off, I mean, that bounce.
And Rose, it's tough on the knees, man.
Rose was 12 to 15 pounds sturdier.
I mean, jaw is slender.
You think John Moran is better than Derek Rose?
I think they're very, I think they're, I think, um,
let's just remember, Rose won an MVP.
Very early, I think Jha, um, I think they're very similar.
I think Jha has a better jump shot.
So I think somebody needs to tell Josh Allen the bill's quarterback.
Dude, stop running so much.
And I think somebody has to take job.
Because we've been saying this about Josh Allen.
Bro, slide.
You don't have to slide today.
You will pay.
Go ask Cam and Big Ben.
You'll pay the price in the four years.
Somebody has to take jaw and say, jaw, work on the three.
Get some easy shots.
Don't go to the lane and jump four.
Don't jump over trees on every basket.
Well, there is some value in that, not just emasculating your
opponent getting the crowd all worked up, but there's a lot of merch to be moved.
Okay.
So you're about winning or merch?
I think it could be about both.
60-40?
I think it's about winning.
Well, with John Moran, it seems like it's 60-40.
No?
He likes being super famous in a million commercials, making a ton of money, being the king of
Memphis.
How about we win some playoff games before we worry about merch?
I'm with you.
I'm going to win games.
Mahalms isn't worried about moving merch.
Well, maybe he's worried about his brother's TikTok game and elevating ads.
You know what Baker was worried about year one?
Yeah.
Merch.
I'm aware.
Let's go to the draft.
Panthers are going to take Bryce Young number one overall.
After that, a lot of questions.
Colter at 4 and Jim Ursay, their wacky owner, says there is more uncertainty surrounding this draft than he's experienced in a long time.
People think the decisions made or decision makers aren't telling anyone.
That's not true a lot of times.
Honesty.
honestly this is as much intrigue and as much debate as I've seen you have four guys and they're all worthy of being the number one pick in the draft any of the four you take at one people can't slam anyone for it I'm not being evasive I'm being honest well really we are debating what our options are when you don't what's he talking about well when you don't have great players you think there's four guys who could go number one I think heads will explode Joel Klatt's head will explode on live TV or radio whatever he's doing if Will a little
Levis goes number one. If Anthony
Richardson goes number one.
I'm so excited.
I'm so excited. This stuff's not
Hercet is just, he's funny. Well, he's
a little impulsive. A little bit.
You like your owner's impulsive?
I don't love my owners. I like Jim. There's a lot about
Jim Ursay. I like a lot. Name
one thing. His musical
love, his loyalty.
Who does he like musically? He's
Hendricks and, you know, the guitar.
I'm just going to say, there's a lot about Erse. I
like. He's a little impulsive for my taste. I'd rather have a little less volcanic eruption. I mean,
he basically got rid of a quarterback with 27 TD 7 picks because he had a bad half against the
Jags. Imagine if you were an impulsive owner of the volume and you were just acting all wacky.
Oh, I am. But you just don't see it. All right, this final story, Coward, rare college football
in April. And it isn't involving the draft. The Colorado Buffaloes are going to look very different
with Dion Sanders as coach next season.
The purge of players happening right now
is insane at Boulder.
On Monday, 18 players entered the portal
after the team's spring game.
Colorado is just down to, wait for it,
13 scholarship players returning from last season.
That's it.
Dionne Sanders and the Buffaloes are going through a massive upheaval.
I know change can be good.
Cowherd, this is 13 scholarship players in Colorado.
right now. It feels, so when I first heard the news, I thought it was going to be a disaster.
Then I thought about it for the weekend and I thought, you know what?
People will talk about Colorado football and they get lost even in the PAC 12.
It feels like a lot of ego with Prime, which he's got a substantial one.
I just feel like this stuff is a lot of ego.
And I just think that's what he is.
I think there's just a tremendous amount of prime, worried about Prime.
So maybe it works out.
He's got the crowd going.
But I don't think, listen, Lincoln Riley has changed half his roster.
Right, right.
But that's not in two months.
He didn't do it to make news.
It was a slow, thoughtful process.
And it was.
This feels impulsive, doesn't it?
This feels very much like I want to make a...
Lincoln Riley was trying to make USC better piece by piece.
This feels like a wave, a tsunami to just clean house
and start over. It's not going to be a good football team with all that.
So the reason I saw this, a buddy texted me, have you seen the line on TCU and Colorado
for the season opener? You want to take a guess?
26 points.
Close. It was 23 and a half yesterday that I saw.
23 and a half TCU Colorado season opener. The guy has 13 players on scholarship right now.
Listen, I know you like Dion Sanders. A lot of people like it.
No, I don't.
No, I think he's, I think the move is fascinating, and I think it'll create sort of inertia and move and movement.
He's running his mouth so much that there is a situation where he gets, like, teams are opening up a can and not calling off the dogs and winning by 40 to send a message to this guy.
And listen, Dion Sanders can do easy. He knows football, obviously.
There's a scenario where this goes sideways and then spirals out of control in a really, really bad way.
And I know Clat is connected with Colorado.
I'm sure he's going to text you about this segment.
Dion, maybe just dial it back just a little bit
because some of these coaches in the Pac-12 are noticing what he's saying.
And by the way, the Pac-12 may not have the best players.
It's got great coaches.
With long memories.
Yes.
All right, J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

Artificial turf causes 32% more non-contact knee injuries, American Grass Seed Company, Pennington on a mission to ban turf fields with their hashtag Flip the Turf Movement.
Go to Pennington. Go to Pennington. Go with real grass. Pennington.
So good. So the Draymond Green is really a winner.
As I think most people know, I have a small digital podcast company, and Dramon Green is my kind of star podcaster.
And so I know Dramon Green and have great affection for him because I thought his career a few years ago.
Like I thought it was just like, I thought the Warriors dynasty was over a couple years ago and Dramon was done.
And he gives me a lot of crap on that.
But what Dramon Green is is a winner.
And people that are close to the Warriors will tell you that Steve Kerr sees Dramon Green as Steph Curry as the soul.
Not the Splash Brothers, it's Steph and it's Dremon.
And Dramon Green is a winner.
Carmelo Anthony once laughed at the suggestion he should come off the bench.
Carmelo scores.
He's not a winner.
Draymond Green went to Steve Kerr three days ago and said, I'm going to come off the bench.
I'm watching us while I'm suspended.
My energy is best served off the bench.
That's what winners do.
This league is filled full of guys worried about shoe deals, their points, and getting theirs.
Draymond is a winning player.
In the last two games, in the last four and five minutes of those games combined,
Draymond was along with Steph, not less than Steph, the most valuable player.
Blocks a loose ball, playing fearless but not reckless, hitting a shot,
rim protection.
He is everywhere on the floor.
And listen, the NBA has got a certain aesthetic that matters.
It's about style and flavor and cool, and I get it.
But when you watch these games, there's people out there that just do not understand the value.
All great teams have had a guy that wants to do the dirty work, and that is Draymond Green.
Blocks and deflections and lose balls, a great on-ball defender, a great team defender.
He is long all over the floor last night.
And Draymond coming off the bench over the last couple of games, he tolds,
Steve Kerr. That's where I think I'm best for the team. Coming off the bench, here's Draymond.
Tonight coming into the game, I just knew where my spots would be. And, you know, that's one of
the luxuries are coming off the bench. You can kind of feel the game. I'll see what's going on.
And, you know, if there's a need for something, you can come in and insert yourself into that need.
Or, you know, if you see something that's working, you can go and feel that. And so, you know,
having an opportunity to watch from the bench for the first six minutes.
and see, you know, pick up the floor of the game, I think, has been big.
And then also understanding, you know, where my spots are going to be.
There's just, this team is so much fun to watch.
The Warriors, by the way, LeBron James and then the Warriors are still remaining the two biggest draws in this sport.
Now, I do think a Miami-New York Knicks series, though it wouldn't be full of offensive splash, would do a good rating.
I think on the East Coast, that would be a really interesting matchup.
Spolstra is a great defensive coach.
So is Tibbs.
I worry that Julia, you know, they got past Cleveland, young, spunky Cleveland, without much from
Julius Randall.
Cross your fingers if you're a Knicks fan on his injury.
But M. Beds now falling apart.
The Celtics can't put Atlanta away.
The Bucks are done.
I thought the East was going to be this very predictable hierarchy.
Everybody I knew loved the Cavs, totally fooled by him.
Just completely unraveled.
But the warrior thing, I said going.
in. Sacramento is going to win the first game.
It's going to go six.
Physicality is going to be a big part of this
in officiating. It is gone like
we thought. People are complaining about the officials,
the Warriors getting the call. That wasn't
about the Warriors getting the call last night.
That was about Draymond
asserting himself in the
biggest moments of the last two games.
One at home, one on the road,
both off the bench. What did you think of
Deeran Fox, the most clutch player?
Hold on the most clutch player
in the league this year in the fourth quarter.
going 0 for 6 with, I believe, two turnovers and he had his shot block twice.
How much did the finger impact him last night?
It did, and he didn't mention it.
So Deeran Fox could have easily leaned on that.
He doesn't quite look the same.
But now, now, let's say this.
Draymond, Wiggins, did you see how they defend DeAron Fox?
Wiggins was unbelievable last night.
Yeah, so if you go look at what the Warriors are doing on Deerrin Fogg, they're
cornering him. Like if he has the ball in the corner off the arc, I mean, Wiggins comes over.
They're trying to get the ball out of his hands. That's why, by the way, sometimes Malik Monk has
openings, Harrison Barnes. There's Subonis, they're kind of like, sometimes they kind of let
Sabonis get his. Oh, sometimes. Yeah. They're just letting him shoot whatever he wants. So some of this
is, I think, I think Deerrin Fox is probably, you know, 12 to 15 percent less effective because of the
injury. Some of this is Golden State last year. We went into the finals. Remember this? And we were
talking about how great the Celtics defense was.
And then we went to the finals, and the Warriors defense was better.
Old teams, right?
Like they picked their spots defensively.
The Warriors were not only bad on the road this year, Jason.
They were a terrible defensive team before the deadline.
They'd won a title.
It's an old team.
Chemistry issues.
They got the bag.
They played 30 extra playoff games or how many ever.
So it was kind of expected.
They just like, it's like a baseball team where all the
starters, you know, throw another 30 innings in the postseason.
They go to spring and everybody's got arm fatigue.
So what you're watching is in the NBA defensively, I mean, look at the heat offensively.
They've kind of flipped the switch.
The Warriors defensively, they were bad.
They have flipped a switch.
I also would like to add, Andrew Wiggins in Minnesota was perceived as kind of a bust.
Well, I would say.
A high volume points guy on a losing team.
Underwhelming talent.
Okay.
He goes from being a one.
In Minnesota.
To a three.
To a three in Golden State.
He's the best three in the league.
Perfect.
I'm going to bring up Zach Levine.
He is a one in Chicago.
Why can't he go somewhere and be a two or a three?
The same way Andrew Wiggins is now locked in.
Good coach, good culture.
Wiggins looks like, I mean, I don't want to say Hall of Fame.
He looks like an awesome.
Because Wiggins is a winning player who does the things.
He does a lot of dirty work.
But he wasn't that guy in Minnesota.
Well, because Minnesota is not a winning program.
So you've got to give some guys the benefit of the doubt when they get to a winning
culture and the pressure's not on them.
Wiggins is how many
tough fallaways that he hit in the last couple
games? And defensively, man.
Excellent. Twitchy, long,
vertical. Hour
number three, Greg CoSell next.
