Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. I'm Joey Dardano. And on my new podcast, Hope From a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:01:12 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown if you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. It's hour two. Greg Kossel in a couple of minutes.
Starting point is 00:02:40 We are live in Chicago. It is the herd Halloween tomorrow. Lamar Jackson tonight. The Dodgers are in big trouble. The Lakers are in an interesting place. Whereas Austin Reeves, without LeBron and without Luke, a new ownership, is putting up massive numbers. Could he be a great trade piece? You know, I said this yesterday It's between LeBron, Luca, and Austin Reeves, you have three guys that need the ball in their hands. In fact, when LeBron plays and LeBron doesn't,
Starting point is 00:03:10 you should see Austin Reeves' numbers. She's a different player. So are they maximizing what he does? Now, last night they beat Minnesota. I don't take a, I don't even talk a lot of NBA in October, November, and December. Same with college basketball. So teams haven't really figured out
Starting point is 00:03:29 their, you know, defensive alignments. There's experimenting. There's a lot of guys that are playing themselves into shape. But it is a great space for the new Laker owners to be in. They have not extended LeBron. Reportedly, he's in his fields a little bit about that. But, you know, Austin Reeves, Luca and JJ Reddick, if you said that's the future of the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:03:48 I still think they have no rim protector. I don't think they're athletic enough on the wing. I think sometimes Austin Reeves and Luca sort of duplicate their strengths. They get to the line. They can score. They're not great defenders. It's duplication. But it is impressive.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Now he missed 14 shots, and here's Austin after. They'll probably tell me I suck because I miss like 14 shots. Get back. My brother and LeBron. Everybody get back. Great night, Austin Reeves. All right, with that, 46 years working at NFL films. He is always our Thursday Encyclopedia.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Greg CoSell is now joining us. All right. let's um let's dive into kansas city in buffalo so uh you know players who don't necessarily work in other places hollywood brown or don't work to the level juju smiths or that do in kansas we've talked about is it just andy is it mohomes but i think rishi rice is a one and i think worthy is a two but they do a really good job of making everything kind of work right like they just find a play i mean sky more has a white o'clock touchdown in the Super Bowl. I look at their, I look at their receiving room and I'm like, man,
Starting point is 00:05:05 there's a lot of different types and sizes. What do you see right now with Kansas City's offense? I think a lot goes into that, Colin, as it often does with good quarterbacks, great quarterbacks. Mahomes is one of the most fascinating quarterbacks that I think I've studied in all my years evaluating quarterbacks. And it's the reason why there were some people when he came out of college were uncertain as to what he would be as a pro. But the more and more you watch him, I don't think we've ever seen a quarterback with his spatial awareness and his vision.
Starting point is 00:05:38 There's a term that I've heard called fighter pilot's vision, and he kind of has that. He may have the best spatial awareness and fighter pilots' vision that we've ever seen. And it's just remarkable the way, I mean, the second half of the game the other night on Monday night was really all of him
Starting point is 00:05:56 making improvisational second reaction plays. That wasn't a second half of playing within structure. Their best in structure play came in the first half when he hit Kelsey on one of their staple flood concepts for, I think, 30 plus yards. But he just has an unbelievable knack for making these plays. Now, he'll leave throws on the field, and then he'll run around and make a play.
Starting point is 00:06:20 And it's just those are the kinds of things. When you watch him, you go, I wonder how they deal with that. Do they just say great play, Patrick? Or do they say, hey, we had this play design, and you didn't throw it, and, you know, next time throw it. I don't know how they deal with that. But he just has an uncanny ability that is arguably the best we've ever seen. How does Buffalo's offense match up with Spags and the Chiefs defense? I tell you, Buffalo's offense, the last number of weeks, has not been a great watch.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And I'm just being honest, based purely on tape study. I don't think, and I'm not saying this sarcastically, the way they've been. been playing, I don't think they can beat this defense, this chief defense, running the ball the way they have. I'm not saying they shouldn't run it, but running the ball with that kind of production success and throwing tunnel screens and five-yard passes. Josh Allen, the last couple of weeks, has not looked like the Josh Allen were used to. Now, he's been leaving the pocket prematurely. He's making too many plays, random improvisations, and when they don't work, you end up short-circuiting your offense. So I think Josh Allen has to get back to playing much more the way he did last year
Starting point is 00:07:28 where he was much more calmer, much more composed. This was not a very good game for him this past week, but they didn't need it. He's going to have to play well. And history suggests, Colin, in this matchup, that he's going to have to drop back 40 times. I mean, that's the way this matchup has gone. They played nine times over what the last four years. And Josh Allen has been great in almost all of those games, but he's thrown the ball probably at least 30-plus times in every one of those games, and I would not expect this game to be any different. All right, I watch the Packers and the Steelers. Let's talk. For the last four to five years, Pittsburgh's defense has been the most expensive. But in the second half against Seattle,
Starting point is 00:08:09 in the second half against Green Bay, against Joe Flacco, I'm left wondering, they're not even a good tackling team at times. My take it. Is it scheme? Is it coaching? Is it personnel? What is wrong with Pittsburgh's defense? I think you're dealing with two things when it comes to the past defense because they give up the most passing yards in the NFL. People probably thought the Cowboys, but it's actually the Steelers.
Starting point is 00:08:33 And I think they're struggling with lack of pass rush, which would be a surprise, and combine that with lack of quality corner play right now. And when you have a lack of pass rush and lack of quality corner play, you've got an issue. And that's what the main problem is right now. And obviously they've just come off a game playing against Jordan Love. And Jordan Love, he's become a joy to watch because there's now a controlled efficiency, Colin, to the way in which he plays. I mean, he was a guy that was reckless a bit at times through his first two years. I'm sure he will be at times just because he's capable of making those kinds of plays. But now there's kind of a controlled efficiency to the way in which he plays.
Starting point is 00:09:16 There's a calculation. He's taking the throws that are there rather than chasing plays. And that just helps your offense stay on schedule. And you and I both know that Matt LeFloor at his core would like to run the ball. And when it's first and 10, and they show you a six-yard completion, now Jordan Love is taking the six-yard completion, and it's second and four, and now Matt LaFle-Fleur can run the ball. So he's really allowing Mattelof-Flo's offense to really flourish the way they want it to be. So I want to talk about the Ravens, but before I talk strictly about the Ravens tonight, I want to talk about Caleb against the Ravens. So it was interesting.
Starting point is 00:09:55 It was one of my blazing five picks, and when I was told Lamar wasn't going to play, my take is, well, it's in Baltimore. It's an NFC team. Caleb's been outside of the opening drive, a little erratic. I think Baltimore can beat him. What did the tape say all these years doing it on Caleb against the opening? a finally healthier Ravens defense? Yeah, I thought actually Caleb showed some positive signs in this game. I think there'll still be uneven moments and ups and downs, but I think, and again, this is
Starting point is 00:10:27 what I look for when I watch K.L. I look for playing with excellent timing and rhythm within structure, because that's really what the Ben Johnson offense is. And Caleb, at his core, is not a true natural timing anticipation player. So it's going to be baby-sumption. steps. And I think there were some signs of positive plays this week, some snapshots where I said, as I was watching the tape, that's pretty good. Now, a lot of people are probably going to look at the interception, which he was late with that throw. He was late by two beats. It was a bad decision, but also a doones day ran a really bad route. He drifted rather than flattened, and he made it easy for the corner Wiggins to undercut it. But I thought there were some positive signs this week.
Starting point is 00:11:12 and we'll see. It's going to be a process, Colin. And I think you almost have to accept that Caleb Williams is really in his rookie season, not in his second season. Baltimore's defense is healthy. What do you see positively from that? I love the way they're using Kyle Hamilton. Now he's back being kind of their slot overhanging, multi-dimensional player. They use him as a blitzer. They line him up on the ball, off the ball. He's used on stunts as both a looper and a picker. I mean, to me, he's really, in many ways, the key to what they're doing right now. And I tell you, the rookie from Marshall Green, he's getting a ton of snaps on the edge, and he's showing up. So, but to me, it's Kyle Hamilton,
Starting point is 00:11:56 who is really the main guy right now. He's such a unique player. And there's more and more guys actually coming into the league like that. Seattle has one in Nick Eminwari, who's basically the same size as Kyle Hamilton and being deployed by Mike McDonnell, who obviously had Kyle Hamilton a few years ago. But Kyle Hamilton, to me, really stands out when you watch the tape of the Ravens defense. So this isn't great for A.J. Brown, but he doesn't play, and the Eagles offense is humming. Now, I love Devonté Smith. I mean, listen, they have really good personnel. But I've said this before. he's not necessarily an adversary, but there are players that,
Starting point is 00:12:36 there are wide receivers and quarterbacks or wide receivers that are loners or kind of guys on an island that don't fit a particular scheme. And when I think of the Eagles, I always think of the tush push, which is an ugly collective. You know, it's two yards, it's ugly, it's inartistic.
Starting point is 00:12:54 A.J. Brown's beautiful. He goes deep. He makes the great catch. You know, so does he fit perfectly? Why were they so sick? successful last week without him. Well, I would say this. Last week, they were back to the template of the way they performed last season when they won the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Keep in mind that this team operates best when the run game is the foundation and Jalen Hertz drops back less than 30 times. That was the profile a week ago. They got the run game going. They rushed for 276 yards. Now, you're not going to rush for 276 every week. But the point is, the run game was the guy. foundation of how they played. I keep reminding people that last year during the Super Bowl season,
Starting point is 00:13:37 Jalen Hertz threw for less than 200 yards nine or 10 times. Jalen Hertz is a phenomenal player in terms of he never turns it over and they're phenomenal in the red zone of which Jalen Hertz is a major factor. They have the highest red zone touchdown efficiency percentage in the league right now and they don't get there as much as a lot of teams, but when they get there, they score. So they're at their best when they play a certain way, and that way does not really detail Jalen Hertz dropping back 40 or 45 times. So there are going to be games in which A.J. Brown does not necessarily get a lot of targets. This is just who the Eagles are on offense, and when it works, they're really, really good at it, but it's not built on dropping back and throwing the ball. So it's interesting. I know Shane Steichen's a great coach, and Daniel Jones is having a wonderful year, and Jonathan Taylor's always been good.
Starting point is 00:14:29 But we don't talk offensive lines. And it was about, I don't remember when the game was five weeks ago, whenever it was, they played Denver. And that's when I came out and said, folks, the Colts O line is in that Detroit Philly space. Like they are pushing people around. When you watch the offense, who are you going to give credit to? Because, I mean, the Rams beat them, but actually Indy had them beat. Right. What do you make of their offense?
Starting point is 00:15:03 Well, you're right about the O-line, and I'm not an O-line, you know, guru by any means, Colin, but when I watch Quentin Nelson get out and pull, I mean, I think there's two guys you watch pull in this league get out front in Trent Williams and Quentin Nelson, and you go, oh, my God, how can people that big move like that, you know? But I think where they're so, so good, and this is Shane Steichen, and I'm sure it's his influence, is on first down. I mean, we all think about Jonathan Taylor, right? Isn't he the guy you think of when you think of their offense?
Starting point is 00:15:31 But right now, through eight weeks, Daniel Jones has far and away the most first-down passing yards of any quarterback in the league. And I'm not sure people would think that way about this offense. They'd think about Jonathan Taylor. By the way, he's terrific on first down too. But Daniel Jones, with the schematics of this pass game on first down, they've allowed Daniel Jones to really flourish
Starting point is 00:15:55 because the reeds and the throws are defined. it's always been the best down to throw on first down, and they are really maximizing their ability. They've gained the most yards total on first down by a wide margin. So it's interesting. I like the Texans to beat the Niners last week. One of them was health. But I said this, when I watch C.J. Stroud, and you give him just that extra beat, I love, I love what the ball looks like coming out of his hands. It's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:16:25 It really is. It just flies out of his hand. It's got juice. It's accurate. And what did you make of his performance against the Niners? Yeah, and he doesn't need to step into his throws to throw a beautiful ball, which is a really good thing. I thought last week he looked to me like he did as a rookie when we all thought that he was on his way to being, you know, maybe a top five quarterback in the league. And last year was very uneven.
Starting point is 00:16:48 And through the first six, seven weeks, this season was very uneven. Now, granted, he played against a defense that couldn't rush the quarterback particularly well. but he also made some very good throws in this game where the pocket was squeezed and he was under pressure. So this was the game where I, you know, and again, we don't know what's going to happen this week. Obviously, they play a very tough defense in the Broncos, so you just don't know. But this was a game where you said, if he can get back to playing like this, then the Texans really have a chance to get back. And I want to show you a play, if we can get to our play from last week that I think really speaks to how well he played.
Starting point is 00:17:22 If we could use this one play as kind of a microcosm of how he played. played last week. It was the 30-yard touchdown to Xavier Hutchinson. And there's some really nice elements to this play, particularly with how they designed it and with Stroud. Now it was third down, obviously. So third down is a money down. So now you're going to see Stroud in the gun. And what they're going to do is they're going to take Braxton Berrios. He's going to go in what we call short burst motion outside. So they know with that motion that they're going to get man. The corner bumps out and you're going to see that they're going to get the matchup to the trip side there. It's going to be man coverage.
Starting point is 00:17:59 It will end up being cover one because the safety to the short side of the field is going to end up rotating into the post. And he's going to be the post safety in cover one. So now what are they running as a route concept? We're going to focus on two guys, Wayne and Hutchinson. And they're going to run a concept that's in everybody's playbook. It's double dig. It's a very common route concept. Now, the 49ers on this particular play, and they did this throughout the game because they couldn't generate any pressure, they rushed six here.
Starting point is 00:18:29 And the reason they rush six is because they know the back is going to have to end up being part of the protection because of the six-man pressure. So they're still playing cover one, though, so they're rushing six. So now what you end up with is Hutchinson, he's matched on his safety. So this is what you wanted. You wanted this matchup, and they got it, and this is a beautiful throw. But now we're going to take a look at this, Colin, from behind Stroud. Because you're going to see just what I mean about being able to throw from squeezed pockets and how good a throw this is. This is Mikhail Williams, who's a stand-up rusher here, and he's going to get inside, and he's going to get in Stroud's face.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I mean, you talked about him the way he can throw the ball. He doesn't even need to step into this at all, and you can see the matchup. And what makes this even more special is he really has to throw this to a spot. He has to throw this with anticipation right now. He can't wait for the receiver. Then it's too late. So he's throwing this to a spot, and you'll see the pressure that Williams puts on him. This is big-time NFL quarterbacking right here.
Starting point is 00:19:32 And by the way, this is the kind of player Strout has to be. Because even though he's not a statue, you and I both know Colin at his core, he's a pocket player. You know, if he's going to be a great quarterback in this league, it's going to have to be from the pocket. Greg, CoSell, 46 years at NFL films. As always, Greg, great stuff. Thanks, Colin. Really appreciate it. What's interesting about C.J. Stroud, when he came out, his comp was Jared Goff.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And then we watched him against, he was like George, and he ran a little bit, and we're like, Jared Goff with some wiggle. It's kind of what he is. He throws absolutely one of the best. I mean, Stafford throws the prettiest ball in the league. I think C.J. Stroud, Herbert, Burrell. when he's healthy, are right behind him, Jared Goff. But when you watch, sometimes it just looks different with the great ones. Aaron Rogers, Dan Marino, it looked different.
Starting point is 00:20:25 When C.J. Stroud can plant and not even plant. It looks different. That's why I was saying about the kid from Alabama, Ty Simpson. I don't see juice. It doesn't fly out. It doesn't look different. Drake May, ball looks different. It just comes out tight, low, velocity, accurate.
Starting point is 00:20:43 It's hard to explain. it's it's the it just looks different jamaq did you notice what he said about the buffalo bills match up against kansas city i'm very aware yes yes can we rescind our bet on the bill no no i still like it interesting on stroud so when he has time to plan and throw great nineers have no pass rush without huff and bosa denver has the most highest pressure rate in the league yeah yeah so is he going to have time to throw it's a stay away game for me i want to watch it, I don't have a strong feeling. I had a strong feeling last week. I like Houston over Niners. Don't have a strong thing. I was with you. It's funny. There's a couple go either way games.
Starting point is 00:21:22 I put Colts Steelers in that because just the history of Pittsburgh at home. But other than that, it seems like blowout city across the board. Rams, Packers, Chargers, all huge favorite. Lions. Have you seen that line? I mean, Vikings' offensive line is in shambles. I mean, it seems like it's going to be blowouts or really close nip-and-tuck games. Makes it tough for the gamblers, Colin. I think, and I said this last year, last year was the first time that I remember that the bottom of the NFL felt like the bottom of the NBA. Is that by two months in, you're like, it's not really competitive. And I think there's a couple reasons for this. Number one is the league has become so quarterback reliant.
Starting point is 00:22:05 If you don't have one, it is ugly fast. And the other reason is because all the owners now are billionaires instead of 100 millionaires. And they are much more willing to blow up a staff at a moment's notice. And so you're getting these revolving doors and these turnstiles in the front office. I mean, it's not, I mean, think about this. Kansas City and Detroit and the Rams and Green Bay, you kind of know who's in the front office. Don't make an occasional defensive coordinator change. The only team in this league that makes a lot of moves and is good is Philadelphia.
Starting point is 00:22:43 right they tend to be they'll move off a quarterback they'll they do things that bad organizations do but they are so well owned and so smartly run that it's okay for them but generally and there's a lot of noise around the eagles you know like good teams there's not a lot of noise i mean you live in los angeles you can't see rams players they hide you just don't it's not a thing and so the the best teams are usually a little quiet they keep their gms they keep their scouting directors they keep their coordinators. But it's just, I feel the same way the last two weeks.
Starting point is 00:23:17 I don't generally like taking favorites. I'm having to talk myself in to the Washington commanders on Sunday night. I'm having to talk myself into it because I'm not going to take five favorites. Well, what about the bears? Your bears, by the way, they may face Jake Browning instead of Joe Flacco.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I don't know if you saw that news. Joe Flacco's got an AC joint spraying and Jake Browning may go under center. Aren't the Bears a slight favorite? Bears are a favor, but that's going to go up. Remember, Jamar Chase was like ticked off playing with Jake Browning. Flacco comes in. He's getting 19 targets a game.
Starting point is 00:23:50 So, yeah, bears all of a sudden look interesting. I think you're right about the quarterbacks, man. And we're going to find out, can J.J. McCarthy play? We may find that out against Aiden Hutchison and a company Sunday. I don't know the answer. Good stuff. Diana Rusini joins us last hour. One more herd?

We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was a lot. on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:25:23 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:26:02 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing.
Starting point is 00:26:30 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the bar. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the balls. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Agency. The ability to know that we're the experts in our own body.

Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the parrot. I'd be too nervous. That's right. The very funny Will Farrell joins Rory Scoble and me. Josh Dean for an episode dedicated to the many crimes committed by people also named Will Ferrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers?
Starting point is 00:28:21 Very good question. No, I was thinking, would that be a good name for like a salad dressing? Simple assault. And it's a play on word, salt? Maybe not. I say we invest and we see. There's only one way to know. This did not amuse the cops.
Starting point is 00:28:34 By the way, normally the cops are amused, but this did not abuse the cops. Will even comes clean about some of his own crimes. I didn't get caught. You know why? If you don't want to be suspected of anything, you whistle as you walk. Listen to crime lists on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. All with so many surprises in October. Toronto Blue Jays heading back to Canada, 3-2 lead. All the Dodgers, $100 million bats have dried up in the last two games.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Here's J-MAC with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, Colin, let's start with our very own Tom Brady, friend of the show. Obviously, announcer here at Fox. He put together a weekly power rankings, and wouldn't you believe it? He's got an eye on Jordan Love as an MVP Dark Horse.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Tom Brady, here he is, talking about Jordan Love. Pittsburgh's one of the toughest places to play in the NFL and Green Bay Trail, most of the game, before a monster fourth quarter. That's the kind of calm under pressure that I like to see from a young quarterback who might be starting to ascend this season. Keep an eye on Jordan loves a dark horse in the MVP race. Yeah, I don't know if it's a dark horse now. I think, you know...
Starting point is 00:30:06 He might win the damn thing. Yeah, and I think he's really good. I think it's obvious now. he had such a weird first of all we didn't watch him in college unlike a lot of the guys oh you weren't watching utah state com yeah so we didn't watch him in college
Starting point is 00:30:19 then he didn't play for three years you couldn't get video on and his first five or six games Matt Lefleur called him out at the podium and then he's very good in the last seven or eight games and then the next year he gets hurt and so we kind of came into this year it was like the old joke about is Joe Flacco
Starting point is 00:30:35 elite and you don't really know listen turn the sound down and I do this all the time turn the sound down and watch Jordan Love. Movement, arm, accuracy, confidence. He's just, it's really weird. I was thinking about this the other day. You start listing the 10 best quarterbacks in the league.
Starting point is 00:30:57 We have so many good quarterbacks now. I don't even know where to put Sam Darnold. Where do I put Baker Mayfield? Where do I put Dak Prescott? All of them, to me, are below Jordan Love. I think he's just younger, healthier. I think he's got to equal the arm. I think he moves better than most.
Starting point is 00:31:15 What do you do with Daniel Jones now? What do you do with C.J. Stroud? The quality of quarterback play now, I don't even think it's a slight. You could put Jordan Love at like nine, and he is an MVP favorite after the weekend. Like, it's just so good right now. So, you know, we've talked about this. The MVP discussion nationally on radio podcast TV, it's kind of weak. Brady makes a good point here.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Love is plus 1,800 right now. That's actually a smart bet. And I'm going to tell you why. The Packers, if they win the NFC, Colin, get the number one seat. He's going to be either the winner or the runner-up. That's how it works. The media votes for the quarterback on the best or second-best team in the league. How about this one?
Starting point is 00:31:57 Are you ready? Week 17, Green Bay Packers host the Baltimore Ravens. That's good. That could be for the MVP. If Jordan Love wins that game in week 17, it's probably going to be flex to Sunday night football. That will be for the MVP. Now, Lamar may not be able to win it because he's made. miss some games. But Jordan Love
Starting point is 00:32:15 puts up four touchdowns on the Ravens defense and they win and lock up the number one scene. I'm telling you, Jordan loves winning the MVP. I think he's in that scenario, obviously. Think about this. Think about the Packers have hit on three straight superstar quarterback. Did they get them from Alabama, Ohio
Starting point is 00:32:31 State, Notre Dame? They got them from Southern Miss, Cal and Utah State. That is doing your homework. Think about that. That's their three-star. They didn't go to USC. They didn't go to LSU. Southern Miss, Cal, and Utah State. Okay, that is knowing what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Do you remember, actually, I don't know if you've seen this. So some meatball put together online a list of quarterbacks that the Packers have had the last 30 years, and then the rest of the division. And the Lions have like 25 quarterbacks. The Vikings have like 30. It's hysterical. The Packers have three. That's it for 30 years.
Starting point is 00:33:10 It basically had the same three guys. Why is the guy who did that a meatball? Well, you know, he's trying to make some point about the Packers. And I like making fun of people online who are anonymous because they usually come after me. Final note, do you remember Brock Purdy was playing for the MVP two years ago against Lamar? I think it was Christmas night. Do you remember that game? Purdy had four picks.
Starting point is 00:33:28 You came on here and savaged him and he lost the MVP that night. He was right there. I think he ended up third behind Dak and Lamar. But that's how it's going to work. Jordan Love, a good bet, I think, for MVP. Next up, Colin, let's go to the Minnesota Vikings. They are trying to avoid a third straight loss. Man, that Chargers game was bad last Thursday.
Starting point is 00:33:47 JJ McCarthy is back at full health. The ankle's all good. He's going to start against the lions. I'm fascinated. McCarthy feels confident in his ankle heading into Sunday. Everything in my past, you know, how I went about things, it was always like if I felt, you know, 10%, 15%, I was going to go out there and give it my all.
Starting point is 00:34:05 But understanding, you know, how this league works and, you know, how everything operates. I was just listening, you know, to my trainer, and Coach O'Connell and, you know, obeying orders at the end of the day. But I think it was the smartest thing possible, and I feel great. I feel like myself again, feel like I, you know, have those mobility things that I was concerned about, you know, going into last week and the prior weeks. So, yeah, ready to go.
Starting point is 00:34:27 For the record, we always root for quarterbacks on this show because the quality of play is better and because the guys get hurt all the time, I am hoping this is a 28-27 shootout. I don't care who wins. I want to see Kevin O'Connell's too good of a coach to be scrambling to find like Shane Steichen with Anthony Richardson. You're like, this guy's too good of a coach.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Give him somebody he can elevate. I want to see J.J. McCarthy flourish this weekend. I don't know if you will, but playing, you know, Detroit at home is a track team, but I'm rooting for him, not rooting against him. The league that one o'clock window on Sunday,
Starting point is 00:35:05 I can only take so many bad quarterbacks. So I'm looking at the injury report. We're waiting for today. But the offensive line for the Vikings is one to watch, Colin. If they don't have it against Hutchison and McNeil, they're in trouble. And I, this is, there's a lot of noise. Do you pay attention to the Vikings? There's a lot of people right now kind of upset with Kevin O'Connell,
Starting point is 00:35:26 who apparently was ready for Satanhood before the season. And now it's like, hold up, hold up. You guys had Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold on the roster? They're both going to the playoffs, and we're stuck with McCarthy and broken Carson. So there are people like upset right now with the Vikings. I don't totally get it because I believe in O'Connell. Well, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Just a reminder, it's hard. It is different. Everybody wanted Chris Ballard fired last year. The GM and then you watch them now with a confident quarterback and you're like, God, they're mauling good teams. They're Dominic because they've been drafting well. They just couldn't find the quarterback. Kevin O'Connell's a great top 10 coach.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Agree. You don't get the quarterback right. Everybody looks dumb in the organization. Kevin Stavansky is a great coach. They can't get the quarterback right. So my taking all this stuff is Kevin Stafansky, Kevin O'Connell. I said this before. I can love a company but not love the current stock price.
Starting point is 00:36:22 I can love a coach, don't like his current quarterbacker situation. Kevin O'Connell's great. Stapansky's great. They don't have their guy yet. Final story, Colin, is another one of your favorites. We love to talk about guys you like on this show, Drake May. what a season he's having six and two. He's really cooking on the deep ball,
Starting point is 00:36:41 one of the best deep ball throwers in the league this season. Now, as I keep pointing out, they are beating some of the cellar dwellers around the NFL. Here's Falcons D.C., Jeff Obrick, who, by the way, was with the Jets last year and knows a little bit about Drake May. Here he is talking about the young quarterback. It's a tremendous challenge.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Being the AFC East for four years, got very familiar with Drake, especially the last couple. And he's way better than I want. wanted him to be. He feels like a mini Josh Allen, like a younger Josh Allen, a lot of ways, his mobility, his arm strength, the way he can take a game over with both facets of the game. So he's going to be a, he's a problem. Now before you scoff at the mini Josh Allen comment, our crack staff put together a matchup
Starting point is 00:37:27 of Drake Mays's first 20 starts against Josh Allen. Are you ready, Colin? No, I can guarantee you, yeah, Drake Mays are better. Yeah, it doesn't suck me at all. I mean... He came from a better conference. He had better competition. He was a more refined project, prospect. So it doesn't surprise me.
Starting point is 00:37:46 I don't think it's crazy. I think Drake May is going to be a multiple-time pro-border. It doesn't surprise me. I think he's Justin Herbert, East Coast version. That's not bad. You know, a saying I like, Colin. So I remember, I was higher on May than Daniels coming out of the draft, and I looked wrong. But I wasn't wrong.
Starting point is 00:38:02 I was just early. Drake May is legit, and frankly, he's having a... go to season now as Jane Daniels had last year. And he's a bigger guy that gets hurt less, and that matters. He's been in the concussion tent three times this season, so we got to button that up. These young guys don't know how to slide. Drake May last week, brutal, like dude, slide. Tom Brady used to practice getting sacked.
Starting point is 00:38:25 It's not asking much that Drake May practices how to slide. It's not a big ask. Are you going to get hurt? Jay Mackle of the news. Okay. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Well, you know, I was, it's Halloween tomorrow, and we're going to have some fun. A little quarterback candy comp. Also, Diana Rusini, breaking news potentially last hour. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, new?
Starting point is 00:39:04 Huge news. We create. our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
Starting point is 00:39:17 But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:39:37 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
Starting point is 00:39:47 and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:40:01 And I'm C.J. Tolodano and our podcast. podcast point game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
Starting point is 00:40:19 I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nasree. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night bases on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you. You get your podcasts. Agency.
Starting point is 00:41:04 The ability to know that we're the experts in our own body. On the podcast cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. Because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas. They're practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. This week on Crimless, we're joined by our first ever guest. Sorry, our first ever human guest. I don't think I could be in the same room with Shamrock the pair. I'd be too nervous. That's right. The very funny Will Farrell joins Rory Scovel and me, Josh Dean, for an episode dedicated to
Starting point is 00:42:25 the many crimes committed by people also named Will Farrell. They called to his fellow officer for the nippers. What are the nippers? Very good question No I was thinking Would that be a good name for like a salad dressing Simple assault And it's a play on word salt
Starting point is 00:42:41 Maybe not I say we invest and we see There's only one way to know This did not amuse the cops By the way normally the cops are amused But this did not abuse the cops Will even comes clean About some of his own crimes
Starting point is 00:42:57 I didn't get caught You know why If you don't want to be Suspect of anything You whistle as you walk Woohoohoo Listen to Crime List on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Play the Fox Super 6 NFL Challenge.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Download the Fox Sports app right now and enter for a free shot to win your share of $10,000 in cash prices. All right, J-Mack, Halloween is tomorrow. Our staff really gets into it. You can see all the ghosts hovering. If you're listening on radio, you should turn on FS1. All the ghosts hovering in and out of our set. So everybody's all fired up for this. And I thought, you know, we'll give a little bit back.
Starting point is 00:43:40 I like candy. I'm just knocking out, just knocked out a little kick-cat bar here. Oh, gross. Oh, my God, it's great. Lifesaver Gummies. Yes, no, yeah. I don't care what they say about red dye. I love it.
Starting point is 00:43:52 I've got a couple snickers here. So we're going to do an... You give me a quarterback, and I will give you his candy comp. All right. Which Halloween candy is Patrick Mahomes? Easiest one. Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Most popular, best in the game right now.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Patrick leads the NFL in total touchdowns and ranks second and total yards this year on a heater. That is easily, by the way, the most ordered Halloween candy by a long shot. As a kid's a very mid. Which Halloween candy is Bonix? Bonix is dark chocolate. I love him. I think it's an acquired taste. I'm not sure if anybody else even likes it.
Starting point is 00:44:35 I'm like 87%, 92% what do I care? I mean, during his five-game winning streak in the fourth quarter alone, 13 touchdowns, two picks. Bo Nix, baby, beau-y-eautiful. All right, which Halloween candy is Baker Mayfield? Warhead, very intense, but you learn to love it. I mean, listen, he leads the NFL with 82 touchdown passes since joining the box. He can be a little reckless. It takes a while to get you.
Starting point is 00:45:05 used to it. But you know what? You down a couple of those warheads. You're all in. All right. Which Halloween candy is Aaron Rogers? He's complex. And so is this candy. The Tootsie Roll Pop. It's got a hardened exterior, but it's totally different inside. Completely different inside. Listen, the Steelers are going to average 25 a game, right? That's what they're doing right now. That's their best in five, six years. So the Tootzy Roll Pop. Again, I'm not saying it's great for your teeth. I'm not saying, but the outside and the inside, it's very complex. It's two different candy. That's a good one. Which Halloween candy is Jalen Hertz? Candy corn. A lot of people love it. Something is totally overrated. He's won 22 of his
Starting point is 00:45:56 20 of his last 22 games, so it's dependable. It's always there. But they have one of the highest third and out percentages in the NFL. So you're either with it or you're not at all. Love me some candy corn. Which Halloween candy is Matthew Stafford? We both love Stafford. He's old reliable. Like the Hershey Bar.
Starting point is 00:46:21 You know what you're getting, right? Never bad. Leads the NFL in touchdown passes and big plays. Second highest-gritted passer. I mean, it goes with almost anything. A fifth round wide receiver, a fifth round running back, an undrafted left tackle. The classic, 37-year-old. Still good.
Starting point is 00:46:42 Which Halloween candy is your guy, Caleb Williams? My guy. The Butterfinger sounds good, but is it? Yeah. I'm not sure if it is. I mean, he's 9 and 15. Completion percentage declined this season, ranks 24th. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:02 I used to get stuff in my teeth. I'm weird aftertaste. I don't know if I like it. I like Butterfinger. All right, finally, Colin, which Halloween candy is Trevor Lawrence? The staff came up with this. Mystery Airhead. What?
Starting point is 00:47:18 You're never quite sure what you just experienced. Well, what is it? He leads the NFL with 74 turnovers since he entered the league. And his record is 26 and 41. It's good. No, it's not. What is it? I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Yeah. He's talented. He turns the ball over. I don't know what to make it, Trevor Lawrence, or the mystery hairhead. Hairhead. Yeah, good stuff. There you go. I can't believe you don't like candy corn, bro.
Starting point is 00:47:48 Come on. Candy corn is so good. It's a little bit like candle wax. Candle wax. That's how I, I'm a texture guy. Yeah. I can't. There are certain textures I can't do.
Starting point is 00:48:00 I got to be honest, I'm shocked that Reese's peanut butter cups are like the most popular. Buy a mile. I had no clue. Those are, I just, yeah, wow, that's stunning. All right, here's the NFL schedule at J-MAC this weekend. I usually ask you on Thursdays. I want the big upset. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:48:19 I don't see a big upset. Why don't we cross them off the list? The Rams are not losing, right? They're not losing to the Saints. And the Chargers aren't losing against the Titans? Correct. And the Packers are not losing to the Panthers. So let's cross those off.
Starting point is 00:48:37 Can you find one now? Can you make a case for the Vikings in the division? No. I can't see it either. I'll tell you. You're not going to go first. The Raiders beating the Jaguars in Vegas. Is that really an ups?
Starting point is 00:48:54 I mean, two and a half? Well, I mean, I'll tell you, I think this would be a huge upset, but the odds makers don't. I think if the Steelers beat the Colts, it's a huge upset. But the line's three. Well, you want a huge upset. I'll give it to you. You're not going to like it. But the Atlanta Falcons were at six and a half.
Starting point is 00:49:11 Money has come in on the Falcons on the road against the Patriots. Drake London's expected back. Michael Pennick's expected back. And there's some numbers on teams. You used to do this where a team will lose big as a favorite. And then they come back the next week and they pull an upset. You know, Rahim Morris fires up the troops and they get their act together. By the way, the Patriots haven't faced anybody good lately, Colin.
Starting point is 00:49:33 anyone. So maybe you can make a case for the Falcons, but it's outdoors. You know what's interesting about the NFL is that Tom Brady and Joe Flacco and Matt Stafford, and now Jared Goffs, it feels like a little bit of an older quarterback, is that once again it is proving in this league. I mean, Brady couldn't run. Flacco doesn't move. Goff doesn't move at all. Aaron Rogers having a very good year, right? we fall in love with athletic ability.
Starting point is 00:50:05 How are these old guys working at such a high level? Because 90% of quarterback play is sitting in the pocket, pre-snap reads, getting your guys in the right place. It is above the shoulders is about 75% of it. Flacco could drop 40 this weekend. You would not be shocked. So it's like when I watch Flacco, it's so instructive. You watch Flacco. You watch Stafford.
Starting point is 00:50:32 You watched old Brady and Tampa. You're watching old Aaron Rogers. The Steelers' offense has been so inefficient and so clunky and outdated. Now it brings in a 41-year-old, and they're great in the red zone. Why? Because Aaron has seen every defense. So we fall in love with all the horsepower. Folks, it's all about figuring out what's coming, audibling protections, getting out of trouble,
Starting point is 00:50:57 getting into matchup advantages. Trade deadline, Diana Rucini stops by on Hollywood Eve. Hollywoodine. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin.
