This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer,
Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band
with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Now let's get this party started.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go, live in L.A.
It is a Monday.
It's hour number two.
It's the herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Thanks for making that's part of your day.
I went to UFC over the weekend.
I'll tell you, when you watch UFC, you know why boxing died.
Like 3 o'clock, they opened the gates,
walked out of there at 10 o'clock,
seven hours of insane content.
insane, wild entertainment.
There were one-punch knockouts, a couple of those.
It was just not.
So a buddy hosted, I went over, you know, to hang out with the dads.
And there was the young, like the lighter guys.
The guy with the yellow shorts fighting.
Was that the craziest thing you've ever seen?
I was exhausted watching it.
They were like just so bloodied.
It felt violent and kind of amazing.
Like it was just, that was an unbelievable fight.
It was an unbelievable card.
But if you want to know why boxing died, it's like every month they go out and they
a car together. The fights are fantastic. There's drama. You don't know what you're getting. The crowd's
insane. Just the right number of kind of crazy fun celebrities. I mean, I trumps there. People,
I sat and talked to Guy Fieri. Just funny. Joe Missoula, the Celtics was there right in front of me.
Jamal Murray. It's fun. It's just kind of a few stars, a lot of regular people. Any Wambaynama
sightings? No, those guys were at Summer League. I was in a hotel in Las Vegas, and I'm six
two pretty, you know, that's tall by American standards.
I was the shortest guy by half a foot to a foot in virtually every elevator I got on.
The NBA guys are just built different.
Yeah.
I walk in elevators and I'm like, eight people on here.
Yeah.
I'm staring up at all of them.
Did you see there was a photo of Kevin Durant talking to Joe Burrow?
And it's like, I mean, Durant looks like he's from another planet.
Burrow just looks tiny.
And Burroughs just looks tiny.
And Burroughs like a big strapping dude for a quarterback.
Yeah.
Wild stuff.
It was wild.
All right.
Colin Wright.
Colin wrong on a Monday.
here we go.
Where Colin was right?
I told everybody on Wembenyama, chill out.
Kid may be nervous.
The summer league's kind of different, right?
Some of these guys are desperate.
They're trying to make the league.
They're chucking up shots.
Wembenyama may not dominate the summer league.
Now, he was very good in game two.
He was very okay.
One for six on threes in game one.
I also feel like he's playing his way into shape.
But we said he's probably not going to be
at any one time the most dynamic player.
The Summer League is different.
He's made the team.
He's all about getting in shape,
getting stronger, not about getting his
in game one of the Summer League.
Where Colin was raw.
I don't understand the Milwaukee Bucks.
They got to get younger,
and they just re-signed Brooke Lopez,
Chris Middleton, and Jay Crowder.
I like all those guys, kind of.
But Lopez is 35,
Crowder's 33,
Middleton's, I think, 32 and had injuries.
I mean, you watched them this year at the end of the year.
They got run off the floor by Miami.
Boston scored at will.
They feel old.
Like, that was one of the easy teams in the offseason.
Just get younger.
Get some youth in here.
They double down on age.
Where Colin was right?
Well, a story out this morning that DeAndre Hopkins already has two offers from New England and Tennessee.
and as I said last week, he's just waiting for a better offer or a third offer.
He's not desperate.
Gerald McCoy came on our show, six-time Pro Bowler last week and said he should not rush to a team.
Whoever starts on opening day on that team will not be there by the end of the season
because you have injuries, you have people getting released, you have trades.
He doesn't have to rush anywhere he goes.
He's going to make the right decision.
when the books and I decided to depart ways, that next day I had 15 teams called.
15. Just wait because something might open up. You never know.
Where Colin was wrong.
Greg Popovich just got an $80 million contract in his mid-70s.
He hasn't had a winning season in four years.
He's not overly tolerant deal with some of the young NBA players.
He's never embraced the three.
I don't doubt that he's super smart.
but as he's aged, he's gotten increasingly cranky, and it is a three-ball shooting league.
I do think Duncan Robinson and Wembe are in the same sort of character mold and personality mold.
And I think he was, I think the Kauai Leonard stuff left a mark.
He just doesn't want to deal with needy players, nonverbal players.
But I was surprised he got 80 million in his mid-70s.
Where Colin was right?
Well, a story came out this morning that should we consider Andrew?
Andrew Luck for the Hall of Fame.
This absolutely needs to be a discussion.
Whether he gets in or not, Gail Sayers got in with four great years.
Andrew Luck, six years healthy, four Pro Bowls, behind a bad defense, a coach that got
fired, a bad on line and no run game, he got to an AFC championship.
11 and 5, 11 and 5, 11 and 5, 8 and 7 and 10 and 6, with no help when he was healthy.
Whether or not you want him in, this has to be a discussion.
Cofax is the best pitcher ever with three dominant years and three other good ones.
Andrew Luck did what I don't think Brady could have done.
Get to an AFC championship with a bad roster and a coach that got fired.
Where Colin was right?
Mets and Yankees, two highest payrolls.
Underachieving.
I've said this about New York sports.
I don't think they're brilliantly owned and generally not that well run.
New York gives you money and ego.
It also gives you a ton of pressure, and it doesn't matter if it's Gettelman's bad moves with the Giants or Brian Cashman's So-So moves with the Yankees.
I just don't feel the best owners and front offices are in New York.
They're trying to, like the 80s and 90s, just buy more good players.
Atlanta Braves don't do it like that.
It's not just about that.
You can buy pressure and you can buy headlines.
It's hard to buy.
wins and titles in sports.
Where Colin was wrong.
When Malik Willis came out, remember from Liberty, we knew he was raw, but we liked his
intangibles.
We liked his athleticism.
He was a power thrower.
But according to stories, he may not make the Titans.
Now, it was a bad quarterback class.
Pickett was the best, but there are stories now.
They draft Will Levis.
They're just going to move on from him potentially.
And I mean, I didn't think he was, I didn't think he was great, but I thought he was an athlete.
There were comps for him.
He was a good kid.
He was good at the podium.
He was known as a hard worker, but the Titans may be already bailing on him.
Where Colin was right?
The Boston Globe said the Celtics are preparing for a seismic trade.
I had said last week on social media, they're up to something.
I still think in a year, Porzingis Jalen Brown will be offered for Janus.
That feels seismic?
Moving Al Horford doesn't feel seismic?
I should have asked Brad Stevens when I saw him this weekend, but it just wasn't the right time.
It wasn't the right place, and I'm such a respectful journalist.
But the Boston Globe is saying what we're saying.
They are up to something big.
Where Colin was right?
My concern for Oklahoma football, did you see the Big 12 Media Day votes?
In the weakest the Big 12 has been in like forever, their pick for third, and don't get any more first place votes than tax.
Texas Tech. That's not a shot at Texas Tech. But it's Texas Tech. This is Oklahoma. What it is, considering they're still an elite national dominant recruiting team, it's a question about Brett Venables. A longtime defensive assistant that had a connection to Oklahoma. Colleges tend to do that. They hire their own. In Jim Harbaugh's case, it took a while, but it's worked. In Brent Venable's case, I have my doubts.
On a Monday, where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong.
Well, as America's hardest working honesty broker, I was in Vegas this weekend.
Okay, I didn't go to the Summer League games.
I went to the fight.
Rick Buecker is now joining us.
Bukes looking at me like, how did you not go to the Summer League?
No kidding.
I took friends to U.S.
They'd never been to UFC, so I took friends to UFC.
And I stayed at a hotel with about seven NBA teams and was the shortest guy in the entire hotel.
Yeah.
So let's talk about Wemby.
The summer league's different.
There's a lot of desperate players trying to make the league.
Sure.
Showing off and Wemby's made the league.
I don't even know if he's in good shape.
He obviously needs to get stronger.
Most young thin guys that size do.
What's your interpretation of what you saw?
He's better than I thought he was going to be.
Boom!
I could not be more impressed.
And especially with having, I saw everything I needed to see.
I saw him struggle in game one and be completely unfazed.
and come back in game two and show you what he could do.
And actually, he showed me everything I needed to see in game one.
He didn't make shots.
He got his shot off easily.
He got where he wanted to go.
His floor vision is way better than I.
I mean, I haven't seen him play.
Like, you can play through him.
And I'm not worried about his physicality at all.
Because unlike Chet Holmgren, while he is skinny,
he's also very willowy.
He's very flexible.
He takes hits.
He goes down.
He bounces right back up.
He's going to be fantastic.
Now, I would fully expect that the Spurs are going to slow roll this.
Thank you.
Which is why they gave Pop a five-year, $80 million deal,
because there's probably going to be some pushback and some questions
and some second-guessing.
And both Pop and the Spurs want everybody to know.
No.
We're doing it.
Pops way.
Are there players in the league, because they're obviously going to have some money here,
are there players that are good to surround him with?
Like generally in the NBA, I've said this before, is that I think you find your star,
this is where Dallas has made a mistake, then you find players that can compensate for that star's
hole.
Even LeBron early couldn't shoot the three.
Yep.
Then you find Cleveland couldn't find guys that could.
Yeah.
Finally, even Miami, they went and got Ray Allen.
Mike Miller, Bosch could shoot for a big.
Yep.
So Wembe, I don't know how many holes he has, but do you see players and you think, oh, that would work with Wembe?
Yeah, I would take the Kevin Garnett model in Minnesota, where they just got smart veteran players,
they know who the star is, and they can play off him.
But I'm going to go get high IQ guys, because this guy's understanding of how to play is already
way beyond his years.
His just, his maturity, his demeanor, like the whole.
whole package. I was skeptical when everybody, he's the next generational player and he's going to be
LeBron and that and we are setting the bar incredibly high. Well, but that you know what? We did for Tiger.
He answered it. Yeah. But this guy, he's he's got it. He's got it all. He, he, I mean, honestly,
I generally don't gush about players, but especially young players because I like, show me, right?
he showed me a lot in these first
in these first two games now look it's summer
league right i'm not saying he's not going to struggle
but his team his european team played the g league teams
he scored 37 and 36
and by the way the european teams would crush our college teams
run them off the floor which is why
you know i was listening to the show earlier
and all the hype around scoot
and all of that and
he's been playing in the g league
like he's been playing summer league
a lot of these other guys brandon mill
and other guys, like, they haven't been playing against this type of physicality and
athleticism. What's that? Scoot, what do you think? I think he's a dynamic player. I think he's,
I need to see more in terms of if he's a point guard, is he a true playmaker? Does he,
can he balance that desire to score with getting everybody involved? You know, I was talking to
Jason Timp, who works with me at the volume, and he brought up a good point. And he said,
right now he's just dynamic.
And he says if you really look
at the great players in league history,
they have more than a fastball.
That's always been the not, like I always said with John
Wall, he's fast. Yeah.
Can he play slow?
Yeah. Can he play slow? You know, Chris Paul
could speed up, but had a pace
to him. But Chris could hit a mid-range.
Chris could elevate. Chris could be a leader.
A lot of guys come in with a fastball
and all the fanboys fall in over
the fastball. It's often
small guys who are dynamic,
And because they're dynamic, they can score high school, AAU, and college at will.
Yep.
And they never develop a jumper.
And eight years in, they can't shoot a jumper.
I watch Wembe, I see layers and layers of game.
Scoot, my question is, is right now, is he just a 98-mile-an-hour fastball?
And this is what every NBA team faces.
Because you can draft the requisite athleticism to dominate your position.
and you can draft a guy who may not necessarily have the high basketball IQ or the understanding
of the whole game. And then it's just a matter of whether they're willing to go get it.
Janus is very much in the same camp. The beauty of Janus is that he's figured out how to win,
even while his game is still not skill-wise at the level of a Kevin Durant or even a Joelle M. Bid.
And that's my question now is, like, he still has to be.
to evolve. I know he's willing to do it, and I know that he's figured out a way to make the most
out of his athleticism and play smart, even if it's not highly skilled. And when I say highly skilled,
I'm talking about like Yokic level, KD level. We talk about Janus being one of the best players
in the league, or the best player in the league. There's always, I don't know, like, I always kind
of hesitate because I'm like, he is because he dominates at both ends of the floor. But is he as
skilled as Kevin Durant or
Nikolikyukic? No, he's
not. And at this point,
that's the next step that he has to take.
And Scoot is along
the same lines. He's just like
10 blocks back. So
I don't have a lot of
you know, Hollywood connections.
I don't really have a lot. I have a couple
who are buddies. Okay. And they're not
like acting. That's... They're not
God, that a humble brag.
Like, I don't have connections.
I just have people that I hang out
in my neighborhood.
Okay, so they're not actor types, but they're more producer types.
Okay.
And so I have a friend who knows Chris Paul.
Okay.
They kind of have a vacation place by each other.
Okay.
And he loves Chris Paul, and he talks about his intelligence and his maturity.
And it's funny about how the world views Chris Paul to the Warriors, and they're like,
ooh, tension.
And Chris Paul
Tell my friend
Steph and I are good
Yeah
Yeah
We've done well
We're gonna be good
I think people look at this
And they're like
They're fans
Yeah
You hated him
And you hated him
Yeah
They're on the same team
They're both Hall of Famers
Yeah
They both want to make it work
Like Chris Paul
Is telling somebody I know
Who knows Chris
And Chris
Chris is like
We good
Yeah
You guys are fun
But
But do you sense that?
Because when I heard the...
Because that's one of my things I'm like,
can Chris come off the bench?
It's hard.
But Chris is telling people, like, I'm going to make it work.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No.
Look, Chris Paul would have run Jordan Poole off if they were played together.
He would have run him off.
Right?
Because that's what Chris Paul is about.
That's why the Warriors, in part, look, they needed to get Jordan Poole.
They needed to move him on because Jordan Poole has not gotten past the punch.
And indications are they may never, right?
And they just needed to move on.
Chris Paul, the only problem that Chris Paul has with anybody
is if they're not focused on trying to win the game and trying to get better.
That's what the Warriors are all about.
That's why the Warriors move Jordan Poole out.
He struggled at times with Blake Griffin,
who was more about commercials than dunking than winning games.
Yeah, I think at the time, I'm not going to, I'm not going to,
bag on Blake because
I think Blake is a perfect
example of a guy
who's, and we see Chris Paul doing it,
we saw Jason Kidd do it,
the guys who
are physical freaks
and then they lose
that physicality and they find another
way to still be an effective player.
I saw Blake go through that evolution
and I respect that to the
nth degree. I mean, it doesn't
sound like a big deal, but when he went to Detroit
and he dragged them to the playoffs all by himself,
and he was half of what he was physically, that impressed me.
All right.
Maybe nobody else, but it impressed me.
Oh, I like that.
So, Chris Paul, the only potential rub I see is that Chris Paul has always been the leader,
ipso facto, of his team.
The rub is not going to be with Steph.
The rub could potentially be with Draymond in terms of, because they're both playmakers,
they both kind of like running the show.
They both have expectations on how to play.
That's interesting.
And they're both a little bit compromised.
Now, I'm not saying there's going to be a problem.
I would expect that they will work their way through it.
But if there was any point at which I thought there might be friction,
it would be them wrestling with who's really going to lead this thing.
Because Drayman's always had that to himself.
Steph is the quiet, set the standard leader.
and Draymond's the one who's a little more vocal in getting everybody organized.
Chris likes to organize people too.
So that, but I don't have any reservations that they'll figure it out.
I would just, that's the one point that I would keep an eye on.
So I saw the story this morning where the Blazers are saying,
listen, give us a couple rotational guys and four picks.
Now, I view that three seems more reasonable.
Three picks and two rotational guys.
But I've said this, is that my responsibility as a general manager,
is to my advertisers, my owner, and to my franchise and fans,
it's not to make sure some star guy who I paid 300 million to's legacy is great.
I think three first round picks and rotational guys is very reasonable by Portland.
Yeah, well, look, it's the going rate.
Rudy Gobert, the deal for Rudy Gobert really just screwed everything up.
And then you could argue, I mean, the Phoenix Suns ultimately gave up something very similar
in getting Kevin Durant.
Actually, you could argue more.
You know, where Damian Lillard is is somewhere in between those two.
So the asking price is reasonable, but you don't have to,
you don't have to insult the star going out the door.
Well, why are they insulting?
What's the insult?
You can, well, this, we're going to,
we don't care, you know, whatever Dame wants,
like, we're going to do what's best for us.
You don't have to put that out there.
You could be far more diplomatic and say,
you know what?
We want to do right by Dame,
but Dame has been the face of this franchise.
Dame is an all-star.
Dame is a very valuable piece.
So we need to get,
we need to get value back.
We want to do right by Dame,
but we need to get value back.
And then by doing that,
you're putting the pressure on Pat Riley in the Miami Heat,
rather than we're going to do whatever we want,
and now you get kind of crossways with Aaron Goodwin and Damien,
you don't have to make this contentious if you don't want it to be.
Well, players make it contentious.
Wow, they're players.
Here's the thing.
As a team, as a team, it's not just the sponsors and the fans.
It's also your players and the players that you hope to get.
Players are very aware of how other players are being treated.
So Damian Lillard for 10 years going on 11 says,
I know other teams want me.
I know guys are chasing championships.
I am saying in Portland,
the value of your star player,
making it clear beyond a shadow of a doubt,
I'm not going anywhere,
I want to win here.
You tell me how many stars do that?
How many stars are that out front?
in a small market.
That deserves respect.
Now he wants to go.
It's in your best interest.
He's getting paid way more at an age that doesn't fit with the timeline for your team.
Both sides can be happy.
We can keep everybody happy.
I'm feeling very diplomatic these days.
I'm not so much that way.
No.
I know.
You know, I don't even tell people.
I don't even tell people to have a nice day anymore.
I tell him to have the day you deserve and karma works its way out.
Yeah.
Have the day you deserve.
That attitude is why you killed it with your house.
Come on.
I don't care.
I don't care.
Yeah.
Let's get past that.
Really?
Nobody wants.
Hey, are you open for dinner tonight?
Yeah, might be.
Where are we going?
I told you you set a bar.
Okay, tonight we're going to switch it up.
Uh-huh.
Tonight, instead of just fish, we always do fish.
Mm-hmm.
How about a little unhealthy tonight?
Sure.
All right.
Rick Buecker.
Hold on one second here.
Sorry, America.
Hold on.
I want to see something.
I don't look at my notes that often.
Oh, oh, okay.
I got something here for you.
L.A. has earthquakes every day.
1.2, 1.4, 2.1.
Those aren't seismic.
Right.
Seismic is 5.8.
I've been on the set when we had an earthquake.
That was like a 5-7 or something.
I'd say 4.5 and up.
Okay.
I've slept through 4.5.
Really?
Five, eight.
Really?
Oh, yeah.
I've slept through three earthquakes.
I've slept through fours.
Don't bring a four at me.
Don't bring your little weak four at me.
I'll go back to sleep after a four and a half.
But it will wake me up.
So the Boston Globe or Harold, I think it's the globe, said,
there's stockpiling picks.
We got a seismic move in the horizon.
And my take is, in a year, seismic doesn't mean tomorrow.
It means accumulating stuff.
And my takeaway is seismic in this league is Luca or Yon.
And to get that, you got to go Jalen Brown Picks plus.
Porzingis Brown Picks.
Seismic is Luceryanus.
Yeah.
It ain't moving Al Horford to Golden State.
No.
So when you read seismic, what did you think?
I immediately thought, Brad Stevens, when's the last time the Celtics did seismic?
That's my thought.
It sounds good.
How many years ago was that?
Well, I mean, but that's, that was their willingness.
Brad Stevens wasn't anywhere anywhere close to that.
I look, the fact that you said Janice and Luca, this is the one hang up with that.
And I know everybody's kind of buzzing on, you know, everybody in the league's monitoring Janus.
This is the beauty of international players that are made the cornerstone of a team.
They appreciate that.
They are not looking to skip town right away.
They take that.
So as much as it's sexy and it would fill a lot of airtime for us if we could get this ball rolling.
Yeah.
I am skeptical that either Luca or Janus are going to leave their current teams.
And what other seismic thing that might be?
But one of the things we've learned about international basketball players.
So they first came into our sport and we liked them, but they didn't run franchise.
and they didn't run the league.
Yep.
And now we're into a,
and they always felt like they were very gracious.
So this next
kind of level of international players is
oh, they're the best player on the team.
Yeah.
And they may be the best player on the league
and they're leading the titles.
Yeah.
Is the third movement of the international player.
Yeah.
It goes in waves.
They come to the country.
They get 17 a game and we kind of don't respect him.
Tony Kukko.
Yeah.
Pushed around by team.
The second level is, damn, they're really good and they win titles, and they're the best player.
You got a dirt.
You got a yonist.
It will change.
They'll bring now, when they start running this league.
The third is, yeah, now you didn't give me good enough players.
I'm a move.
Now, we haven't had that yet.
Yeah.
But young people are on the forefront of cultural changes, not old guys like us.
I think the third way for international is, no more Mr. Nice guy.
We run the league.
get us better players because you're now holding us to a LeBron standard like Wembe.
Now Wembe's going to the Spurs, they're fine.
But I see a third level to the international star.
It's coming.
I can't argue with that because we are seeing some changes in the entitlement of international players.
We got a little bit of that with Luca coming in, right?
less so with Janus.
And obviously, some of it has to do with their level of success before they got here.
Just as an aside, I don't see any of that with Wembe and Yanna.
I don't either.
I mean, but by way, Janus now jokes about mobility.
It used to be, I'm going to McDonald's to have a burger and go home and sleep.
Now it's like, hmm, Instagram, very interesting rumors with the Warriors.
Yeah, I think that's still Janus in his dad joke phase.
He's just having fun with it.
Okay.
I've never moved out of that thing.
I got,
till I'm in a casket,
I got dad jokes and then some.
All right, Bukes, dinner.

Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's
unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Welcome back. Derek Jeter's joining us next hour.
I've interviewed him once before.
When I moved to the Northeast to live sort of in that tunnel of Red Sock Yankee history,
Jeter is just different.
You know what Jeter was?
Jeter was a guy who he hit 300 in the regular season and he hit 300 in the postseason.
And he was always a big moment player.
But there have been a lot of Major League baseball players.
I remember Barry Bonds already in his career was this player in the regular season
and then this player a notch below in the post season.
Kershaw has been criticized where he's this.
this in the regular season, he's a different pitcher in the postseason.
Whether that's fair or not, I always found Jeter spectacularly consistent.
And my Mariners, his career against the Mariners, he hit 309.
And I don't have it in the top of my head, but I think Jeter's career average was about
301, was it not?
So he hit 309 in Seattle.
So he played a few games in the kingdom, a lot of them at Safeco.
J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Herd Line News.
Start with the Kansas City Chiefs.
When their second Super Bowl in the last four seasons,
team isn't looking in the rearview mirror as they prepare to defend their title.
Safety Justin Reed says they've already put last season's success behind them.
Honestly, the page has already turned.
We're out there working, chasing another championship.
Every year is different.
We got an even bigger target on our back than last year.
We get to enjoy that moment.
As far as the mentality in the room, we're working and continue.
this dynasty what we did last year and not just rest on our laurels.
Where we are right now is light ears ahead of where we were last year at this time.
Really exciting.
And you think Aaron Rogers with a shaky O line is going to run the AFC?
All those rookies that played for the Chiefs, all better.
Just, listen, I didn't say run the AFC.
I think the Jets are a playoff team.
We agree on that, right?
Nope.
No?
No?
I don't have them as a playoff team.
I have them as a good team.
What are the cheese?
15 and 2?
No, it's 11 and 6.
12 and 5.
All those rookies are going to be smarter and better.
At what point do they start to treat the regular season the way like the Warriors have done sort of?
It doesn't work that way in pro football.
I mean, you can tinker, you don't have to reveal everything and then in their postseason.
Belichick would experiment more in September.
But by Thanksgiving, you want to have it locked and loaded and not mess.
around. This isn't the NBA. Yeah, but like the
Chiefs can do that with this regular season.
They don't need, come on. I think Sean Payton,
I think Callan Moore with Justin Herbert, I think Kansas City's well
aware. How many years in a row have we heard this?
Oh, oh, Chargers nipping at their heels.
Here comes Russell Wilson. They don't have anything to worry
about. Listen, even Michael Jordan,
the relentless Michael Jordan,
you go back to Michael Jordan.
I believe, I could be wrong, check
this. He lost
games to the expansion
Toronto Raptors. Like, if you
you go back to Jordan's career.
Michael on a Tuesday night against the lousy team did not owe as, he wasn't always Michael.
So, but that season has 82 games.
I think in the NFL, guys are ready to play every Sunday.
I don't think you mess around.
You know what?
The bottom line is you get hurt.
You get hurt.
It's like hockey.
You can't take a line off.
You're on the ice for a minute five.
You got to play hard.
You just can't, your head's got to be in a swivel.
You skate and lighten up.
You're going to get back.
I mean, it's like a phrase.
But it feels like sometimes watching the Chiefs in the regular season,
they're not, Andy Reid's not bringing out the good stuff.
He's saving it for the big matchups, the primetime game, the postseason.
That's more what I'm talking about.
Not like taking a game off, but just, hey, we're not going to reveal everything we've got.
Because next week, you know, we got to pick your best team in the league.
Yes, I mean, I think, you know, Kansas City in that first big game of the year,
Andy's got tricks, Andy in the Super Bowl, where they did that kind of zigzag motion,
where they come in and they fly back.
That's what, I mean, again, like.
But that's the Super Bowl.
There's only one buy in the NFL now, and Kansas City wants it.
There's only one.
So you've got to get it.
You give your guys a chance.
I'm trying to remember.
Who had it last year?
Tennessee the year before.
Tennessee was two years ago.
I don't remember who the number one seed was last year.
Oh, it was Buffalo, wasn't it?
Buffalo.
Yeah, and they got blasted by the Bengals at home, 2710 or something.
Why don't care about the first seed?
Come on.
They win an arrowhead.
They win anywhere.
They got my homes and Reid.
Yeah.
No?
All right.
Next up, Texans hired Domingo Ryan's this year to become their head coach.
First stint as a head coach after six years in San Fran.
49ers' offensive tackle, Trent Williams expects big things from Ryans in Houston.
I think he can be a staple for this organization for a long time.
He's a very talented coach, obviously, has the pedigree.
Played the game for a long time.
Played it the right way.
he coached it the right way.
So I think he's going to have a lot of success out here.
It will come down to C.J. Stroud.
It doesn't matter who you are.
If the quarterback plays average, you're average.
And I think C.J. Stroud is going to be goff-ish.
Not special, not a lot of juice, but he'll be able to manage the game, stay at a bad
plays, and there'll be a better-than-you-think team.
I don't think C.J. Stroud has a ton of juice.
I don't think there's like a next level.
I think what you see is what you get.
But you guys have them as a three-win team.
I think their personnel...
I don't understand this idea, this feeling that Houston doesn't have any good players.
They got like seven guys I like.
I know.
Everybody says their roster's 28th.
Left tackle, like, running back, like.
They got a couple players in the defensive side, like.
I think Houston's better than people think.
So, pro football focus and ESPN neither love their roster.
I mean, I'll rattle off a couple defenders.
Okay.
What's to love?
I mean, Will Anderson will see how he is as a rookie.
Malick Collins, Sheldon Rankins, who I believe was with the Jets.
They were like, all right, well, Jerry Hughes, who I think is your age, linebackers, Christian Harris, Christian Kirksey, Perryman.
I mean, listen, they've got okay guys.
What's their over under?
It's like four?
I think it's four and a half.
Okay.
Over on the Rams.
It might be five and a half.
I'm going to take the over on the Texans and the over on the Rams.
And I feel really good about it.
Texans division is much weaker.
Yes.
Well, be careful.
Arizona could be the worst team in the league.
Rams get two wins right there.
Rams won the Super Bowl two years ago.
Seattle was in the playoffs and the Niners.
Houston six and a half, over under.
I would need to look at the schedule.
I would lean under.
I think six wins is recently.
Rams, six and a half over under.
Wow.
Those are two of my favorite overs.
So we'll just go ahead to head on this.
Yeah.
It's fine.
How many steak dinners you owe me?
I don't owe you anything.
I might as well open up a chop house.
I got like 19-3 dinner.
The last wager we had was would just.
Jalen Ramsey fetch a first round pick, and he clearly did not.
Who was on that?
You were.
You loved the Jalen Ramsey first round pick.
So you owe me something.
Final story, Bill Belichick.
I got a herd water bottle in fact.
Bill Belichick still needs 31 more regular season wins to pass Shula,
with the most for a head coach in NFL history.
There's another record he could get before that.
Belichick is also 14 losses away from saying the mark for most losses by an NFL coach.
I don't think he's losing 14 games this year.
They're not that bad.
But in the next two years, eight and nine, eight and nine?
If the Patriots were in the NFC, dead serious, I think they'd be a playoff team.
But they're not, so they're not a playoff team.
Some of it is, it's like if you're Ole Miss and you're the fifth best team in the SEC,
I think you'd be the second best team in every other conference.
But you're going to be the fifth best in the SEC.
C. So I don't think they're a failure.
They just picked a bad time
to be in that division in that
conference. Because the conference has
elevated massively. The
division with Aaron has elevated
massively. I mean,
Tua, Aaron, Mac Jones,
Josh Allen. You need
three of them. Who you pick? And I
like Mack. But who you pick it? He's fourth.
I just don't see what the path is to double-digit
wins or even nine. No, I don't see it either.
Worst team in the division. By the way, this
DeAndre Hopkins story you talked about earlier.
Sitting on an offer for two weeks.
Come on.
You buying that?
Two weeks?
Yeah, I am.
Offer sitting there.
What is Hopkins doing?
Oh, that's right.
It's on brand for him.
He doesn't like to practice.
He doesn't want to show up in a couple weeks.
As your mentor, let me tell you how the negotiation works.
You don't run to the first offer.
You let stuff bake.
You wait for camp.
You wait for an injury.
You try to use the media to leverage another offer.
I'm leaking stuff every day to the media.
The powerful media.
Good luck, DeAndre Hopkins.
He doesn't even want to go to the Patriots because then sauce garden will have to lock him down.
He doesn't want any of that smoke from the Jets' cornerback.
Jets' defenses.
Oh, God.
It's so good.
Got to put the ball in the end zone.
J-Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

In summer, it's the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup.
with the defending chance USA chasing a historic third win in a row.
Don't miss the action when the tournament kicks off July 20th on the networks of Fox Sports.
So by the way, I went to this UFC fight, and Jamal Murray was like Denver Nuggets was like three seats away.
He's got a reputation as a really nice guy.
And so when I first saw him, he kind of gave me a look like, I don't know.
I can always tell if people like me or don't, whatever.
And, you know, athletes, some I criticize.
You know, I could tell if I walked by John Wall, he wouldn't like me.
I'm good with it, right?
I'm okay with it.
you know, it is what I do.
I, you know, I'm like a press reporter and there's politicians and some like me, some don't.
So over the course of time, you know, Jamal Murray and I, he goes past me, I go past him.
He's a really good guy.
And I said, you know, it's funny.
My Jason McIntyre in December came up to me.
And I said, he was like, Murray is going to roll in the playoffs.
And I'm like, I don't know, ACL, I got to see it.
You know what Jamal Murray said to me?
He goes, oh, I know.
he goes oh i know what you said and i said i'm happy you won you're the american dream he goes we're good
but it's like he heard because i they all hear colin i know they say they don't pay attention no but he
was like oh i know and i said so j mack went all in on you and i was like skeptical because you'd
had an injury i've seen all these good young teams come in and everybody tells me they're going to
win and they just in the playoffs come and they just i said you guys just rolled through people so i'm like
and it's fun you feel like
spurs. But really nice guy, but it is interesting. Basically, for a living, we talk about these young
people. And, you know, like, if they don't watch it, they hear it from their guys. And so,
it was just funny, the fact that he was like, oh, I know that guy likes me a lot more than you.
And I'm like, no, I like you. I was just skeptical. So these are athletes, they're in facilities.
TVs are on all the time. Okay, they can see the tags, even if they're not, the volume's
not on. A lot of these guys know, I'll never forget. I criticized Carmelo Anthony a lot. Okay,
We both have.
And one of his friends was on the set with me here at Fox.
And I said something on air about Carmelo,
and he went after me pretty hard.
And then during the commercial break, I was like nervous.
I was like, geez, I'm just, listen, he's not a great player.
And I just felt bad.
And he's like, listen, Mello knows you going after him.
And these guys know, it's not, we're not being harsh.
These are our opinions on athletes whether they're-
Remember, NBA players, they got shoe companies that love them,
A.U coaches.
They are completely surrounded by people.
who kind of worship or elevate.
A lot of yes, men.
Sometimes I got to go out and say,
I don't like this young guard.
He can't shoot.
Like, I think Scoot Henderson's going to be really spectacular,
and I can't wait to watch him play,
and I'm so excited for Portland.
But I worry, because I've seen it like 30 times, can you shoot?
I'm not worried.
Let's just go on.
No, I mean, it'd be good.
But don't be just, you've got to bring more than a fastball.
Hyper-athleticism, ages quickly, and doesn't win titles.
Steph could shoot.
By the way, small guy Dame.
Dame could shoot.
