Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports. And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, and on my new podcast, How Hard Can It Be? I call on my Gen X squad from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. Unfiltered conversations from night sweats to futas to scheduling sex. Wait, what sex? Is it just me or does every woman my age want to look at Pinterest instead of having sex sometimes? They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Listen to How Hard Can It Be with the Anamaria Riva on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com. Or stream us live every day on the IHart Radio app by searching Fox SportsPortes. Sports Radio or FSR. We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Hour number two here on the herd.
Starting point is 00:02:45 It's me, Jason McIntyre, joined by Rachel Nichols. We are in for cowherd. Oh, boy. My plug-in was not really working there, but now we're fine. Rachel, I'm about to unveil my Super Bowl tears. It's going to make a certain fan base very upset. I'm not going to lie. I've seen these tears.
Starting point is 00:03:08 I'm a little worried about you. So it's funny. Rachel is very caught off guard, and she's wearing Chiefs Red, I believe, today. She was caught off guard yesterday by the Chiefs in the meeting and, like, laughing. And I was like, oh, Rachel, nice. And then today, when I unveiled my tears, she was really caught off guard. So, listen, Bruce. This is Taylor Swift Red, by the way.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Oh, Taylor Swift, oh, Taylor Swift, just pointing it out. Apologies, yes. So Bruce Feldman, my guy, he's coming up in five minutes talking about, yeah, college football. Notre Dame, Miami. We need to talk a little more about that. Anyways, let me do my Super Bowl tiers. All right, folks, here we go. So we have four tiers of the teams that can win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And let's get started, shall we? All right. Tier number one, faux show, for sure. These teams are the elite, the best of the best. Baltimore Ravens, no doubt about it, need no explanation. Josh Allen's Buffalo Bills, the Philadelphia Eagles, the defending Super Bowl champs. I don't need to explain those three.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Now, the Niners, some people are going to be surprised by. I'm just going to, let's be obvious. Don't read too much into what happened last season. They were a mass unit, and I know the wide receiver room has some issues currently. They're going to be fine, okay? This is a schedule-based prediction. That's why they're Super Bowl contenders. I also like the move bringing back Robert Sala.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Go look at the quarterbacks they face this year, guys. It is a cakewalk. They should be fine. I think they'll probably get the number one or two seed in the NFC. The 49ers should be in the four-shore Super Bowl contender list. All right, let's go to the second tier, a little larger, a little more robust. The Green Bay Packers, yes, I have the Packers in the for-real category, joined by the Atlanta Falcons.
Starting point is 00:04:54 I don't mind revealing when I was in Vegas last week. I bet the Falcons to win the division. And, yes, win the NFC. A bit of a flyer. The offensive line injuries has me. concern right now, but nevertheless, Denver Broncos in the four-reel category. That defense should be the best in the league, and I think the Knicks-Pa-Pa-ton combo is much better than I thought.
Starting point is 00:05:15 L.A. Rams, fourth in the four-reel category, they probably could get bumped up to one now that Stafford's fine, but as Rachel noted, the left tackle situation, some cause for concern. And I'm going to put the Bengals here, because Burroughs not going to stop chucking and ducking. He is just going to keep throwing to keep the Bengals in every game. And I do believe offense should keep them in the Super Bowl contending category. Let's go to the third tier of Super Bowl contenders. Hey, there they are.
Starting point is 00:05:42 Here we go. For now, the Kansas City Chiefs are a Super Bowl contender. Yes, I had them missing the playoffs. Yes, the tackles are an issue. I don't care how good the Ohio State kids looked in practice. It's a long season, folks. The running back situation is dicey, Travis Kelsey. I'm not going to use the washed word.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Oops, I just did. I think he'll be okay, but let's see. It's a full season in the playoffs. And then, of course, the defense. I mean, Jalen Hertz just put a number on him in the Super Bowl. And you look at that tape of that, and you're like, oh, there's holes all over the place. I have Detroit and for now.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I also have them missing the playoffs. I know that's going to make people upset. Washington in the four now. As we talked about yesterday, Rachel noted, the defense is very old, has a lot of questions. I think the offense keeps it in gains. And I'm going to have the chargers here. I really like the chargers.
Starting point is 00:06:32 They're a bit more sleeper now that Slater's out for the season. Let's go to the final category. Super Bowl contenders, for your consideration, the Arizona Cardinals. I have them in the playoffs. Houston, Texas, I just don't love them. They got entire new offensive line. Yes, the defense will keep them in gains. Yes, the divisions, eh.
Starting point is 00:06:52 But that offensive line has me really nervous. I have Jacksonville here. They're my surprise team in the AFC. I think that offense isn't going to rival. the Bengals, but I think it's going to be very, very good. And, oh my gosh, this can't be real. And then finally,
Starting point is 00:07:10 for your consideration, the Minnesota Vikings. Yes, I'm buying J.J. McCarthy, and those are my Super Bowl contender tears. So listen, there's some news breaking. I don't know, is this, are we sure about this? Come on, guys. I don't want to go with that if it's not accurate. So let's bring on Bruce
Starting point is 00:07:28 Feldman, my guy, college football analyst covers the sport for Fox. Bruce in his just awesome family room there looking sharp as ever. New haircut, ready for the season, Bruce. What's the excitement level for you, Texas, Ohio State? Can't wait, Jason. I mean, this is the best week one we've ever had in college football. You have a one-versed-two matchup, as obviously you remember,
Starting point is 00:07:55 Texas was knocked out of the playoff last year by the Buckeyes. And now you have the Arch Manning Factor. You have new coordinators at Ohio State on both sides of the ball, including Matt Patricia, who has never really coached in college football. And now he's got to defend Arch. That's huge. You got two other top 10 matchups later that weekend. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Let me just quickly ask about this, Matt Patricia. He is the rocket scientist, if memory serves, from his days in. in New England, Detroit. Matt Patricia, kind of a divisive figure. But as you said, he's at all offseason to prepare for Arch. He's also got maybe the best defensive player in the country in Downs. I think they kind of bottle up the Texas offense here, Bruce. So what's your read on that one?
Starting point is 00:08:46 It's going to be interesting to see what kind of answers does he do a lot of what Jim Knowles, who was the offense, the defense coordinator last year did such a good job for Ohio State. As you mentioned, Caleb Downs or safety. I think he's the best defensive player in the country. country, he's just a unique chess piece because he's so smart and what they can do with them. They have two elite linebackers who are really special athletes in Sunny Stiles and Arvel Reese. The D-line is mostly new, right? They have talent there, but it's new guys. The part that I think I'm most curious about in this game is it's not just arch. It's four new starters on the
Starting point is 00:09:21 offensive line. You lost a top 10 pick who's now with the Saints at left tackle. It's a lot of new guys and it's a tough road environment. I mean, we'll see how Patricia does, you know, long term this season. It reminds me a little bit of a similar situation Texas faced early last year on the road when they went to Michigan, Wink Martindale, who hadn't been in college, he stepped in it at Michigan. And it was a mismatch, Sark versus Wink Martindale early in the year. Sark still there.
Starting point is 00:09:53 He has a more mobile quarterback, I'll be at less experience in Quinn Ewers. And it's also a new offensive line, though. And that's the part where I'm fascinated to see how Arch does behind a new group that is going to be feeling its way out in a very hostile setting. Let me ask you, Bruce, are you surprised that Arch did not throw a pass at all in the SEC championship game or the two playoff games? They had a couple of running packages for him, but not one pass. To me, to an outsider, that's kind of a lack of confidence in him getting it done in a big spot.
Starting point is 00:10:25 or was there a dynamic with Queen Ewers that maybe I don't understand? No, I just think it's in the moment. Look, when mid-season Georgia comes in there and they are slaughtering Texas, they bench Ewers, give Arge a chance. Arch gave him a spark for a second, and then Georgia just overwhelmed him too. I think I wouldn't read too much in anything that happened last year with that Texas team.
Starting point is 00:10:50 You know, remember the year before, Texas came very close to playing for the national title. They lost to Washington and Michael Pennix. You know, it wasn't like yours is a scrub. Yourers has played a lot. He, you know, he operated well at times in the offense. And I think it was just about like, hey, let's make sure when Arch is really ready, he's ready to go. And I think having an all a full off season to kind of grow into this position and get ready,
Starting point is 00:11:20 I think it's probably ideal for them. But, you know, again, I wouldn't, you can always second-guess play callers on both sides of the ball. I wouldn't, you know, Steve Sarkeesians is as good as there is in college football, especially in like third down stuff and different, you know, things. Obviously, you can hindsight is 20-20. I'm sure there's a bunch of calls in that game. Sark would have to have back. But credit to Jim Knowles, he had answers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Let's go to Miami, Notre Dame, obviously a rich history between these two. I'm on the Irish here, but there are some questions. about Notre Dame and quarterback. Their defense is stacked. Love the running back. Where are you on this matchup? Yeah, it's not just the running back you're talking about Jeremiah Love is fantastic. That running back room is deep behind them. J.D. Price. They have some young backs they really like. But again, CJ Carr, you know, he's a talented passer, but this is his first big test, right? And they're going to Miami, and this is a completely new defense. And I'm not saying how it's going to go for Matt Patricia or not. But in Corey Heatherman,
Starting point is 00:12:20 You have a much more experienced college defensive coordinator who's stepping in Miami was awful on defense last year. They were explosive on offense with Cam Ward. I think Miami is going to be much improved this year because of the defensive side of the ball. And I think everything I've heard out of Coral Gables has been very positive on how Corey Heatherman has changed things. I think this is a tricky spot for the Irish. They're talented, as you said. But again, new quarterback, that place can be pretty loud. It's not the old orange hole, but ask players on the Notre Dame team that got blown off the field of like 48 to 7, like when Manny Diaz was there.
Starting point is 00:12:59 That place can get loud in the right spot, and I expected to later this weekend. And again, Carson Beck is now the starter at Miami. There's been a lot of positive reports coming out of there from the coaches I know there. They have a really good offensive line. I would not at all be surprised if Miami beats them this weekend. All right. to ask, Bruce, you're like, the coaches, positive on Carson Beck? Have you ever got preseason negative stuff from coaches on a quarterback?
Starting point is 00:13:27 Yeah, definitely. It's, you definitely do. But those are the things you shy away from bringing up and saying, oh, yeah, the coaches are kind of skittish, skittish about this guy. I mean, maybe, maybe some of the stuff you talk about around it may come up. But there's definitely a bunch of stuff where you end up in the back of your head. And sometimes you talk about it, you know, we have a podcast where we'll talk a little bit more about the stuff I might be concerned about at Ohio State or the stuff I might be concerned
Starting point is 00:13:53 about on this team of that team. But, you know, you, you kind of balance all the information you get. Okay. So does Beck lose the game with a pick or a stripsack fumble? How does he blow this one? I just don't have a lot of faith in the guy. And this is coming from somebody last year at this time who was like, oh yeah, Carson Beck, he's got to be the favorite to go number one in the draft. Yeah, I know. I wouldn't get so over your skis on the draft component of this because that's what people thought and then you know what happened. Brock Bowers went to the NFL and Ladd McConkey went to the NFL
Starting point is 00:14:24 and the receiving group beneath him wasn't very good and he pressed. I mean, right now, he's got a really good offensive line. He's got an elite running back in Jordan Lyles and they have a lot of young talent at receiver. So you know, again,
Starting point is 00:14:40 I know this. The Ravens offensive coordinator, Todd Munkin, who had back early on, was very effusive. and how smart he is, how quick his release is, and all those things. I mean, look, give a lot of credit also to Shannon Dawson, Miami's OC, because going into last year, the NFL had a fifth round grade on Cam Ward. Where did he end up getting drafted a couple of months ago?
Starting point is 00:15:05 First overall. I'm not saying it was all Shannon Dawson, but Shannon Dawson, the offense coordinator, knows what he's doing, and I would expect Carson Beck will have a pretty big year in this system. That's good insight. Let's go to the other matchup, LSU, Clemson. Another bet that I made was Clemson undefeated regular season. Obviously, if they clear this hurdle, they're favored the rest of the way. I'm just curious. This is a battle of these quarterbacks who everybody seems to like for the draft next year,
Starting point is 00:15:32 Clubnik and Nussmeyer. Where are you on these two heading into this season? I like them. I think they're both really smart quarterbacks. They don't have, like, great size. Nussmeier's more of a gun slinger, coach's kid. You know, I think both guys are. are really good leaders. They see the field really well. The part that we need to see a big step up from them is, especially with Garrett Nussmeyer, is how they play against ranked teams. You look at the numbers. They were not good. Neither guy was really good, but Garrett really struggled. And now, a little like Arch Manning, he's got an entirely rebuilt offensive line. They had four offensive linemen who played in the senior bowl, including the Patriots top five,
Starting point is 00:16:18 that Will Campbell. So now you got a rebuilt offensive line. That place is going to be even more hostile at night than what you're going to have in Columbus. And unlike the Buckeyes, this defensive line, Clemson has, Peter Woods was one of my, you know, highest guys on my freaks list. I think he'll be a top five pick. He's a 310 pound defensive tackle who runs 4,8, 5.
Starting point is 00:16:38 They have like three other guys on the defense, who I think will be top 40 picks next year. And then they have another guy, Sammy Brown, who when he's able to come out for the draft, I think he's going to go really high. He's a linebacker who can run like the wind. Tom Allen's a new defensive coordinator. I think this is a big upgrade from what Clemson had on defense last year. I'm a little nervous about the Clemson pick now because now I see that you're on the bandwagon. They're my professional team.
Starting point is 00:17:05 I'm like, oh, God. As soon as you said it, my eyes kind of roll back. Well, I'm not going to lie. Like, I've been down on Dabo for a dabbo for a couple years now since he refused to go to the portal. and then you came on my podcast, you were like, bro, this defensive line is filthy. I'm worried for Nussmeyer in the opener. I think he could be under some pressure. So you have Clemson as number one in your college football playoff seedings, huh?
Starting point is 00:17:29 I do. A couple of things, as I mentioned, Tom Allen, everything I've heard has gotten the defense much more in sync. They were out of it last year. They had some players, you know, some in experience in key spots. As I said, now Sammy Brown is a second year player. freshman playing a lot last year in a key role. The other big thing is when Clemson was winning national titles, they had elite receiver play. That's when even right before, when the program started to get closer when Tage Boyd was putting up big numbers, they had elite receivers. They dropped off in the
Starting point is 00:18:02 last few years. The receiver room is backed closer to where it used to be. You know, Bryant West, Westco is a big time guy. They have three guys there who are really big athletic playmakers. I like how Klobnik has continued to mature he showed he has some playmaking ability we saw that at times last year and again they did go in the portal a little bit
Starting point is 00:18:24 or they have a good defensive end they took from Purdue I feel like everybody got a good player from Purdue and they were awful last year but still they you know I like where Clemson is now I would caution people on this like last year Clemson got blown out by an
Starting point is 00:18:39 SEC team in the opener by Georgia LSU lost their opening Brian Kelly's never won an opener since he's been at LSU. Clemson made the playoff even without, you know, like you can stumble out of the gate and still have a really good season. The thing to watch for for me on the LSU side, I think LSU is really talented. They got a ton of freaky athletes in the receiver room for Nussmeyer.
Starting point is 00:19:03 But Brian Kelly's put so much in this game. You know, he's put Clemson Tiger Falls all over the facility just to kind of reinforce how big of a deal this game is. you lose the game, you do worry about, does some of the air come out of the balloon? And how do you bounce back from it? They have not a big opponent the next week. But a couple weeks later, they have Florida. In Florida beat them last year.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Yeah. If anybody watching, he has his predictions on the screen for the playoffs. Seven is Iowa State. Now, was that before or after their win over Kansas State? No, that was before. Really? That was before. Yeah, look, Matt Campbell's a really good coach.
Starting point is 00:19:39 When I spoke to him for a while this summer, one of the things that he stressed is, you know, five years or so ago, they had the best season in Iowa State history. They finished number nine. Then the culture of the program kind of got away from them a little bit for a variety of reasons. He was telling me and talking to some of the players inside the program, you know, he's got Rocco Beck, Anthony Beck's son, who is just a gamer. He's a really tough kid.
Starting point is 00:20:04 He finds a way to make plays in the clutch. He's just got like kind of a winner quality to him. And he ended up beating out an elite 11. you know, higher ranked recruit J.J. Cole and ended up transferring out for the job and hung onto the job. And I think it's a big deal. Like he talked about how much Rocco Beck has helped in reestablishing the culture there. You saw it last week when he trusted his guy on fourth and three in a tough spot with a little over two minutes left. He went for it and it paid off. And again, Matt Campbell over the last couple years has been one of the most
Starting point is 00:20:38 conservative coaches when it comes to going forward on fourth down and he was like scrap that i trust my guys to come through they did uh i'm not saying they're running the table but i think they're going to win the big 12 and i do think they'll be a playoff i don't i don't see texas tech in there anywhere bruce that's uh my long shot to make the playoff but i do see a arizona state we love that team quarterback coach uh texas tech any thoughts can they can they sneak in i mean they they spent a ton of money on the portal they got a big budget they've upgraded on both Now, Quentin Joyner, who was at USC last year, really, their most talented running back, as we reported, you know, a couple of days ago, he's out for the season with an injury. That's going to hurt them because now they have two, you know, largely unproven backs. We're going to have to shoulder the load. We'll see how this is going to go. I mean, I think they'll be pretty good. I don't know if they, to me, the gap between all these teams and the Big 12 is so close. You know, I just think that there's, there's, there's nobody who has Ohio State, Penn State, you know, LSU, Georgia kind of talent in this.
Starting point is 00:21:45 It's not even close. Like so in here it's very bunchy. It's like which quarterback do you trust the most and which which team can just kind of go on a roll? Last year I was on a state, I felt like they fed off Cam Scataboo's energy. And they went from being the team. Everybody thought it was at the bottom to win in the whole, win in the whole conference. And then almost knocking Texas out of the playoff, you know. So I like Kenny Dillingham.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I think he's a great fit there. You know, I think there will be the other team in the playoff. But you never know with the Big 12. The teams you think are going to be really good, just bottom out. And the teams you don't expect much for them, they end up surging. All right, last one real quick. Bryce Underwood is the new quarterback at Michigan. This is the kid who got like a ton of money right.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Wasn't he heavily recruited by some donor? He flipped from LSU to Michigan. What's the status on the Wolverines here? Yeah, he's going to be the guy. I mean, he's six, six, four, two, 30 can really run. You know, he was the top ranked high school quarterback in the country last year. He's got, you know, high level playmaking skills. Everybody down there is excited about him, but he's still a true freshman quarterback.
Starting point is 00:22:53 The thing that would, that would give me pause about him is he's a true freshman quarterback, and there is not a ton of elite talent around him on offense. He does not have anything close to what Penn State has in. the running back room. He has nothing close to what Julian's saying at Ohio State has from the receiver room. You know, I, the all line is not what it used to be when J.J. McCarthy was playing behind it. Then they had like one of the best old lines in the country. I think right now it's pretty good, but I don't know if it's any more than that. Last year, it wasn't even that. You know, and by the way, last year they had Colell Mullings who they leaned on and really
Starting point is 00:23:31 won some games for them. That guy's gone. I think they're more of an eight and four kind of team. I'm fascinated to see how he does. You have a new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsay comes in. I don't expect them to throw it all over the yard, but they couldn't pass it at all last year. I think they will be able to throw it some because you have a guy who, last year they wanted Alex Orgy, who was like similar size, really athletic, probably not as instinctive of a runner and struggled as a passer.
Starting point is 00:24:00 And they did not have difference makers outside. Colston Ludlin was a really good tight end, but he got banged up. It's hard for me to look at Michigan and say, oh, yeah, they're anywhere near as good as Penn State or Ohio State. I don't feel like that right now about them. All right, Bruce Feldman, Fox Sports, great stuff. He's king of college football.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Enjoy the opener, Bruce. Everybody will be watching you and following you online. Thanks, buddy. Thanks, Jason. All right, great stuff from Bruce Feldman. Now, folks, I don't want to sound like a, five alarm fire, but we have major seismic news. Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift are engaged.
Starting point is 00:24:45 Do you want me to do the alarm? It's happening! It's happening! I got two teenage girls at home. Yeah, people are freaked. My wife just texted me about it. So Taylor Swift's, I guess, Instagram post, your English teacher and your gym teacher
Starting point is 00:25:00 are getting married with a stick of dynamite. Congrats to the happy couple. Maybe we'll do a little more on this later in the show or the entire final hour. I don't know. We may have to bump a guest to bring on like a wedding plan. I don't know what the game plan is. There is no playbook for this. But maybe we'll get Colin to call in and offer his thoughts on the couple.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Remember when people thought this was a hoax? They were like, oh, this is a fake relationship. Remember that nonsense? Yeah, but you know, real Swifties knew the truth. They knew, yes. By the way, you and your family, did you guys see Taylor Swift out here at SoFi? Of course we did. I got two teenage daughters. Come on. This is like Target Demo Central. I'm not going to lot. I know our audience is like 90% men, but I'm going to be real. I went to the concert. It was fire. It was amazing. The best concert I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:25:47 I would say this for all the guys out there listening to this news, this is a reminder to shoot your shot. Okay? Because Travis Kelsey wanted to meet Taylor Swift. He thought she was pretty. Obviously one of the smart, most successful women in the world. and went to the stadium during her concert to try to meet her, didn't work out. So instead, he went on his own podcast and put out the call and just said into the air, I would like to go out with Taylor Swift. Taylor, please, I want to go out with you. And it worked. It worked, Jason. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Shoot your shot. It's never too long a shot. So by the way, Rachel, our staff is now saying that you are wearing Taylor Swift red, which you announced in the first hour. I did. And then they got engaged in the second hour. Do you know something? Do you want to tell us anything?
Starting point is 00:26:38 Nothing we're going to talk about on TV. All right, coming up next. We'll just tear up the rest of the show and just do. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey got engaged. Everybody's excited. Everybody's fired up. And we'll probably talk about Michael Parsons too because this is a sports show. That's next.
Starting point is 00:26:57 One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day seven days a week within the IHeart radio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand when, you'd like. Hey, it's Steve Kavino. And I'm Rich Davis. And together we're Kavino and Rich on Fox Sports Radio. You could catch us weekdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific on Fox Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:27:17 and of course the IHeart Radio app. Why should you listen to Kavino and Rich? We talk about everything, life, sports, relationships, what's going on in the world? We have a lot of fun talking about the stories behind the stories in the world of sports and pop culture. Stories that, well, other shows don't seem to have the time to discuss. And the fact that we've been friends for the last 20 years and still work together, I mean, that says something, right? So check us out.
Starting point is 00:27:39 We like to get you involved too. Take your phone calls, chop it up, as they say. I'd say the most interactive show on Fox Sports Radio. Maybe the most interactive show on Planet Earth. Be sure to check out Covino & Rich live on Fox Sports Radio and the IHeart Radio app from 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern, 2 to 4 Pacific. And if you miss any of the live show, just search Covino and Rich, wherever you get your podcast and, of course, on social media.
Starting point is 00:28:00 That's Covino and Rich. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:28:22 So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. And, well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:28:53 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert
Starting point is 00:29:28 Smigel and friends on the eye heart. radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo.
Starting point is 00:29:45 Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife-12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:30:53 When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh, the excitement is just through the roof here at Fox.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Everybody's fired up. Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey engaged. Unbelievable. Oh, that. People are saying like this is going to be the next royal wedding here. I mean, whenever they set the date, I got one of our guys here on the stage was like, I know who I'm not drafting in fantasy. Any guy who's ever been part of wedding planning knows kind of involved.
Starting point is 00:31:54 And you can only do so much. Yeah, sure, sure, whatever you want. I do need to ask. So according to the Associated Press, Rachel, they have been dating for two years. Yes. I don't know how personal you want to get, but before you were married,
Starting point is 00:32:08 how long did you date the guy you ended up marrying? I'm a little different. So I dated the guy I ended up marrying when I was a teenager at summer camp. Whoa! And then we didn't see each other for 10 years. And then he tracked me down and found me, and we dated for less than a year before we got engaged.
Starting point is 00:32:25 So it's one of those things where because it worked out, it's incredibly romantic. And if it hadn't worked out, the tracking down would have been stalking. Stalking, yeah, yeah. Well, you know, we'll never know. I was about to say. So is he a official stalker or no? It was a Facebook.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Fantastic. And, you know, we've been married for 20 something years. That's congratulations. The whole like two years seems like a good, but I don't know if they've lived together. I know that the old school people are going to be like, nope, can't live together. I highly recommend living together before you get married. I don't know if these two have. have.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Gets a little, do you want to share any insight onto that one or no, I believe that they have lived in each other's homes, meaning... Listen, a weekend is different than living together.
Starting point is 00:33:07 No, I don't think it's been a weekend. So they did, did you, did you listen to the two-hour podcast, Jason? No. My wife and daughter did. I was just like checking in from that other room
Starting point is 00:33:18 watching hunting wives on low volume. So, by the way, I can't believe you're looking down your nose at Taylor and Travis because you were watching hunting wives. But we'll get back to that.
Starting point is 00:33:28 No, they were talking all about, like, what they do at home. She's really into baking sourdough at the moment. She has all these nicknames for her sourdoughes, that he does this around the house. She does that around the house. And to me, the most revelatory thing she said about the NFL and how much she's changed as a football fan. Because, of course, you know, there's been a lot of up for her about how much do they show her on the screen and why is she in my space and all of that stuff. She freely admits she's like, when we started dating, I didn't know what a tight end was.
Starting point is 00:33:56 and she made a joke that she thought the quarterbacks actually faced each other on the field, that all the players were out at the same time, which I mean, you know, it's kind of good. It was in that Top Gun movie, right? That's how we talk about the quarterbacks battling. Right, yeah. You said Patrick Mahomes versus Josh Allen versus whatever. Anyway, but she has become such a diehard that she said that she and Travis were in different places during the NFL draft a year ago. And she started running through the house screaming,
Starting point is 00:34:25 saying, we drafted Xavier Worthy! And her friends who were over at the house were like, did someone body snatch you? I mean, she's clearly into it, and they spend a lot of time together. Before we get to her line, I'm sure you guys have seen the memes, but Travis Kelsey has changed a lot in the last like seven years. His look, he was like me. He had the two hoop earrings. He would wear like gold chains. And I saw a meme that I just started dying of laughter.
Starting point is 00:34:50 was Travis Kelsey used to look like a guy who sold vape cartridges behind 7-11, and now he's marrying the most famous person in the world. Great. And it's kind of funny. Anyways, all right, let's go to Rachel with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 00:35:07 The only couple, Jason, that could knock Travis Taylor and Taylor off the news is Micah and Jerry, right? Micah Parsons, Jerry Jones continue their Texas two-step ahead of week one. both sides still unable to come to terms on a long-term agreement just yet. They haven't even been talking, according to reports. Doc Prescott, though, he's dealt with this before. He does not seem concerned about whether Michael will be ready for week one. I've got confidence. I've told you all that well way back when.
Starting point is 00:35:36 And I'm just going off of experience, honestly. No different than mine. So I've got confidence in that. Just hoping, which I know he is, he's ready to play. There's been a case of something similar. to this the last three years, I believe. So if not before, I mean, I guess right. None of the sale, I think that's people can take it however they want.
Starting point is 00:35:59 I think it's kind of part of the way guys think and see things around here. I mean, according to Micah, he's had a terrible back injury that's kept him out all of three seasons. So, you know, he's ready to go. We'll see about that. But did you feel listening to Dak that he was saying, oh, we've got experience this. We're good. We can roll with it. Or did you feel that he was listening to Dak?
Starting point is 00:36:21 It was, we've got experience. Jerry does this to us every time. Right. The latter, yes. I totally agree. I will say that that hat that was wearing, did you see it? That looked cool. And I'm one of these weird guys.
Starting point is 00:36:33 And not backward. Not backward, yeah. It looked cool. And Dak sounded supremely confident. Like he was not like, oh, man, we're in trouble. This stinks. We got to get. It was just like nothing to see here.
Starting point is 00:36:43 That was a vibe I got from that video. Well, he himself, as he mentioned, went through this just last year, signed on the first day of the season. So much later even than right now. But you have to remember, and when I heard some of that exasperation in his voice, this is what made me think of is this isn't not just good for the Cowboys' Bottom Line. It's not good for the team, and that's not a revelation, but if you look back to last year where DAC signed on the last day of the season,
Starting point is 00:37:07 C.D. Lam signed actually a year to the day ago today. They started the season, one and two, and they finished, of course, we know, 7 and 10. And I can't say for sure that all of that ends up. You didn't know what was going on with your quarterback. That didn't cause an issue and not knowing what's going on with Micah Parsons. I don't know how that's going to affect them. Not ideal. Right?
Starting point is 00:37:29 I don't know. They've lost a lot of money doing this too. You know, Sherry Jones. He's got plenty. He's a billion. Let's talk a little 49ers. Coming off last season's down here, San Francisco hoping to avoid a complete rebelled. Instead, they're going through this roster reshuffling, right?
Starting point is 00:37:45 Speaking to Albert Breer, GM John Lynch said that they've been taking inspiration. from the Rams and Bills who went through similar situations over the past couple seasons, saying, quote, you're void by the fact that we have people that we respect who did it. You're picking them as one of your top four teams to win the Super Bowl. You believe in the reshuffle? Yeah, I like this piece by Breer. I read it. There was a funny Brock Purdy quote where he's like, the bills have Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:38:10 We have Brock Purdy. John Lynch is supremely confident. I'm a Brock Purdy guy. I think I saw him in like the 90s on that ESPN list, but that's neither here nor there. I do think they're going to be fine. Again, you wouldn't move off those defenders if they were good last year. They were not good last year. I know who Fungo was hurt, but when he played, he didn't grade out as like having a good season.
Starting point is 00:38:32 I think the 49ers are going to be really good this year. I'm worried about the injuries. The injuries, yes. The wide receiver group, I mean, they're one injury away from you and I playing wide receiver. I'm ready. Running back. Stay ready. Hasn't been much better.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Yeah. There we go. Let's talk about the lions. We don't want to take too much out of the preseason, right, Jason? But the Lions did not play well. One in three, getting outscored by 46 points. Dan Campbell had been like everything's fine, everything's fine, everything's fine, until yesterday, where he admitted wasn't a great look.
Starting point is 00:39:02 Take a listen. Praxes look really good. I see that, but all of a sudden, all four of these games have not been good. That's an issue. Like, I think that's an issue, right? Because all of a sudden, the lights are on, and we're in real games, and the coach isn't behind you, no scripts and there's
Starting point is 00:39:18 that's a little bit you know that could be a little bit concerning you think well we knew that there were going to be issues with both coordinators leaving right especially Dan Campbell who is considered just a mad scientist wizard
Starting point is 00:39:34 but there's also been offensive line interior reshuffling I mean this is definitely a little bit of a danger zone and a test for Jared golf right? 100% what did he think was going to happen when he gets two guys who haven't been coordinators either ever or in like six years? Did he think it was going to be a seamless transition?
Starting point is 00:39:51 I don't know, man. Colin is big on Dan Campbell as like a coach. And I'm like, I don't know if he's an exes and those guys. Like anybody can walk around when they're stretching and let's go, guys, fire. You know, anybody can do that. We're going to find out what Dan Campbell's made of this year. Okay. Like, I mean, I'm not knocking the guy.
Starting point is 00:40:11 I just, I think it's going to be a real tough one. And the way they lost that Washington, obviously you're a Washington fan. I was at my son's volleyball tournament. that and just dumbfounded by how dumb Detroit looked. And I don't know if golf was concussed. It was, that was such a beat. They give him 45 points. Well, that's why I said it's going to be a test for him, right?
Starting point is 00:40:30 Because how much of it the past couple years was him, how much it was the coordinator, how much was the line. We're going to find out. I'm on the Packers, by the way, in week one, minus one and a half, at home outdoors against Detroit. Rachel, with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Heard Lye News. Boy, I do feel bad. Terry McLaurin, a big contract yesterday, swept under the rug. You got, what was he? There was another deal. Oh, Trey Hendrickson got a new deal. Boom. All dusted. You know why?
Starting point is 00:41:03 Because Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift got engaged. So we'll talk more about that. And also, Micah Parsons, you know, it's a sports show. We're going to try to do something. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FM. 1 and the I Heart Radio app. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what?
Starting point is 00:41:26 We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a podcast. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
Starting point is 00:41:39 We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. The Arch Manning era kicks off with a playoff rematch for the ages as number one Texas takes on defending national champion, number three Ohio State on Big Noon Saturday. Coverage begins with Big Noon kickoff live from Columbus at 9 a.m. Eastern Saturday on Fox. Can't wait for that one. Obviously, we'll talk about Micah Parsons here in a sec.
Starting point is 00:45:12 Just I'm drilling down on the Taylor Swift, Travis Kelsey. Oh, boy. I have to ask, Rachel, are you getting texts from friends about this? Because people are into this story. Even dudes who are like in my fantasy football league are like popping off. This is a big deal. What rock do you live underneath? This is huge.
Starting point is 00:45:31 This is large. Even for diehard sports fans. They're like, oh my gosh, Travis Kelsey. Wow, you locked that up. You put a ring on it, as Beyonce said. Now, I am curious. The engagement now means wedding next offseason. and maybe he retires and gets married.
Starting point is 00:45:46 I mean, that's sort of the thinking, right? He's 35. He's turning 36. She's, I think, 35, maybe turning 36. What do you think this does for? You know, I'm getting a little personal here, but. What do you think this does for her, the rumors that she might play at the Super Bowl and the 20, whatever? I mean, I wouldn't think.
Starting point is 00:46:07 I can't imagine. That she would play. First of all, most acts don't play at the Super Bowl until they're more legacy acts. Right. Because they can make a lot more money touring on their own. You know, the Super Bowl doesn't... Well, yes, but the Super Bowl doesn't pay you. Right.
Starting point is 00:46:20 You pay for your entire own show. So I don't know if she's doing that. I certainly don't think she's doing that while he's still playing because, obviously, she wants to watch him play if he's in the game. But, yeah, I mean, they're both from, you know, she's from Pennsylvania. He's from Ohio. We know a lot about his family, right? Mama Kelsey, Jason.
Starting point is 00:46:39 You know, she's from a very tight-knit family. She's very close to her parents. they both talked about wanting kids. So it doesn't surprise me that as they both enter their late 30s, this is something they're thinking about. Listen, I'm glad you're wearing red and you have some good insight into this. I was ready. I'm just going to say that.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I was ready. Stay ready. That's what the coach always told me when I was sitting on the bench. Stay ready, Jay Mack. All right, let's go to Micah Parsons real quick. So Matt Mosley was on the show yesterday talking about the Micah Parsons situation. We saw Tray Hendrickson get a deal. We saw Terry McClure and get a deal.
Starting point is 00:47:11 Now we're just waiting. All right, Micah, can we just, can we get it done? Now, maybe Jerry wanted to wait out Kelsey and Swift. You obviously don't want to be toppled by that news because that's going to dominate the news cycle for at least the next 24 hours. And then it's like, oh, wedding planners, location, all this dress, all that. Sorry for saying it's nonsense. But it kind of is goofy to sports fans.
Starting point is 00:47:33 Anyways, Micah Parsons and Jerry, it's kind of ugly, but Matt Mosley says, Parsley is going to be on the field for week one. remember who Jerry is and remember how much he loves the pageantry and the circus of all of this and the last minute get the deal signed is kind of a fun thing for him
Starting point is 00:47:57 Dak got one of his deals done the morning of the first game CD and Zeeks were done four or five days every one of these holdouts end in the Cowboys capitulating, right? I mean, name me one that they've won, like, well, look at the Cowboys. They won this negotiation. Zeke, Zach, I mean, every CD, they all end in the deal's getting done. He's spot on there. And it's funny because we've spent much of the last, what, five months talking about the same stuff with Michael Parsons. Is he got a sign? How much
Starting point is 00:48:39 is his deal going to be? Oh, he's going to wait for this guy to sign and then sign for a dollar or a million more, whatever it is. And then he's going to get it done and it's going to be week one, he's going to play, he's not going to miss a beat, his back's going to be fine. And then I'm just like, why did we fall for this rope-a-dope? Is there a way we can build this in? So next year, when there's a big name who's dragging it out, these deals always get done. Is there a way so we don't have to fall victim to that? And I guess what the Cowboys, as long as Jerry, Jones is running the show, this is just how it's going to be. It's going to be a knockdown, drag out battle until the very last minute, then it's going to get done. Everybody's going to be
Starting point is 00:49:17 cheering. It's kumbaya. There were never any problems. I mean, I don't expect Michael Parsons to show up for week one, like 10 pounds overweight and not having been working out. Of course. A specimen in the prime of his NFL career. Of course he's working. I mean, I still remember the Dorel Revis hold out with my jets back in the day. So concerned. Oh my gosh, because he was on such a cheap rookie deal. What was this? 15 years ago? And then he plays week one. I mean, he was great. This is what these guys do. They're professional athletes. They stay ready. And so Dallas, I cannot, I just can't get concerned with this Micah Parsons thing. The only one that could have long-term ramifications is what's the trickle down in the locker
Starting point is 00:50:02 room and around the league. Hey, man, do you want to deal with that crap in Dallas? Or do you want to go to XYZ where the owner takes care of you early and quickly. And I know the Jags took heat for the Trevor Lawrence early extension. Oh, what a bad deal. No, no, no, no, no. He signed it super early below market value, at least what it's going to be when CJ Stroud, all the everybody else gets paid. It was a smart business decision by the Jaguars.
Starting point is 00:50:31 Imagine that world. The Jags are making smart business decisions. and the Cowboys America's team is fumbling the bag once again. Like honestly, if you go look at that Trevor Lawrence, you're like, wow, smart. Get it done early, no drama. Lawrence can lock in. I mean, that's just, that's the way to go. And Jerry just refuses to do that for the show of it all, for the Netflix show, for the social media reactions.
Starting point is 00:50:57 So he can put his feet up at his palace that he lives in and turn on a TV and see his face and the Cowboys. It's driving up the value of our franchise, me doing all this. And to me, it's annoying. I don't like it. Is it bad business? I don't know. The guy's a billionaire.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Can I bash him? I don't think I can. I mean, he's clearly been successful. So Terry McLaren gets his deal in Washington. He's going to stick around with Jaydon Daniels. Trey Hendrickson gets his deal in Cincinnati. I mean, technically not a deal, but he got a $14 million raise this year, which is going to make him happy.
Starting point is 00:51:35 And then we'll just run that back in Cincinnati. They are the king of bad business. And now it's Micah Parsons. We wait for him. And my guess would be, I'll go tomorrow. Because you know once college football kicks off this weekend, the games take priority over this news. I don't know that they're going to wait until next week. But maybe they do Tuesday or Wednesday, like in the past.
Starting point is 00:51:59 All right. Coming up, final hour of the show. I mean, they're talking about tearing it up and just, doing Travis Kelsey Taylor Swift stuff. I don't know. I'll push back, guys, because I know you want actual sports. But final hour coming up next year on the herd. Hey, guys, it's us.
Starting point is 00:52:17 The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:52:26 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Kunky, his best friend and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports.
