got to wear shades. It is great to have you in today. Jay Mack, a couple days off World Cup. Saturday morning. Who is England, France? Friday afternoon, I think, is Argentina and Netherlands. It's a big soccer weekend. Great. No college football now. Great college football. Great World Cup weekend. Can I tell you, can I be honest? I'm a little nervous about the Seattle Seahawks finishing over 500 and having to shave a thing in the side of my head, the Seahawks logo.

I've had so many fans reach out and say, are you guys going to do this live on air? Of course you're going to do it. Huh? I will do it, but not around the holidays. My family will not let me. They won't let me. I'll do it after the holidays. Yeah.

You're going to shave the Seahawks logo. Side of my head. I, like you, thought they would be awful. Everyone did. The gambling market said they would be one of the four worst teams in the league. Yeah, I just didn't make that bet. I made a bet once on a tattoo and lost. Did you get the tattoo? Oh, yeah, I got it. I think the Carolina Panthers could shock them this weekend. I'm rooting Panthers heavily. It's one of my favorite bets.

Oh. All right. So I'm going to throw this theory at you. Part of the fun of doing this for a living is, you know, theories and predictions. I mean, I could watch games and say that's what I saw, but it's fun. You know, and you're wrong a lot, but it's okay. So I have a theory on the Packers. They know what Jordan Love is and they know what he's not. More than anybody in the league. They know the odometer on this car, right? Like they more than anybody know exactly what they have. They have three years of film.

And so Brian Gudenkoontz, the GM, was asked, you know, if he is ready to be an NFL starter right now. Do you feel confident at this point with what you've seen that he is a starting level quarterback that league? Yeah. Now, again, those guys have got to go out of. do it in real games and all that. I think that's important.

But all young quarterbacks go through a period of time where no matter what individual success, I think it takes him a little bit of time to learn how to win in this league. And that's going to be important for Jordan whenever he gets his opportunity. But that's a big part of it. I mean, it's, you know, learning within the game is very important for that development. The longer the answer you learn this with kids,

the more BS it is. The answer, of course, is yes. That was the answer with Mahomes. That was the answer with Herbert and Burrow. Is he a starting quarterback? Yes. And then you stop talking.

That was word salad. So Green Bay, I'm thinking about this. Knows. I mean, the season's over. But why risk Aaron Rogers? Aaron has been totally comfortable. discussing sitting staying healthy. Does he want to get the you know what kicked out of him?

But if you've only showed Jordan Love for a few snaps against Philly, he looked good. Maybe you start him the final week against Detroit's awful defense, like a movie trailer. Only the best gets out. And some GM and some team, there'll be 11 teams, maybe 12 looking for quarterback, says, I'll give you a second for him. But if you let him play all five games, you know a little more than we're comfortable you knowing. I am always suspicious when somebody asks me a question or somebody asks anybody a question

and you can just answer yes and no. And they ramble on and on. Nobody rambled with Mahomes. Nobody rambled with Herbert. Nobody rambled with Kyler Murray. Can he play? Yeah. That's the answer.

have Aaron Rogers two or three times say things like, boy, I'm watching Jordan Love. He is really something. Oh, he's already done it twice. Talk about him, play him here, there. Maybe the Lions bad defense. Let Jordan Love carve up Detroit. They'll be out of the playoffs.

Getting a little film study on their young D.Bs and young defenders. I'll throw a team at you. Let me throw a team at you. They have a 70-year-old head coach who may have no interest at all, even though he'll have the pick to get it, to rolling the dice with a college kid that's 22. Pete Carroll. The Seahawks have two firsts and two seconds.

Gino Smith is good enough to get him to the playoffs now. That's a lot of picks. Two first, two seconds, a third, two fourths. They have a ton of picks and draft capital. And Pete Carroll says, I'm going to take the Georgia interior delineman first. It's their biggest weakness. I'm going to get another edge rusher. Top of the second, they go get a center, another, in my opinion, weakness.

It's a good center draft. Three really good ones second round. And in that second pick in the second round, what do they have for a need? Nothing really. You can add a receiver, but college football gives us 20, 25 receivers a year. give up your second, second round pick to get Jordan Love, three years under Aaron Rogers, three years NFL practice, roll the dice on him. So what if you miss?

You hit such a home run on the Russell Wilson deal. You hit such a home run in the draft last year. Good God, their first six picks are all great. Not good, they're great. It's six for six. They've got two starting corners. Jordan Love in Seattle is perfect. You think Pete Carroll at 70 wants to roll the dice on Tiny Bryce Young?

I don't think C.J. Stroud's going to be a great pro. Will Levis is a mess, though he's talented, but he's a project. Pete Carroll's out of the project business. Jordan Love's going to be 25 next year, three years behind Aaron Rogers in a very stable organization. By the way, Green Bay would love some draft capital if they're going to keep Aaron Rogers. Why? Because he's so damn expensive, they've got to get some cheap labor. They've got to hit like Christian Watson picks.

Two or three times. Just a theory. Seahawks, Jordan Love, late second pick. J-Mack rendered a decision on that zany theory. Do not hate it. Who would win the starting quarterback job next year? Jordan Love or Gino Smith? Probably Gino, but you'd have a very, not Drew Locke.

You'd have a very capable, like Gino, big kid that can move at quarterback, certain symmetry between the starter and the backup. So if you're the Green Bay. Packers, you now have Aaron Rogers at, I think he's 39 or 40. You hit a home run on Watson. Dobbs can play. Your O-line is rated top five PFF. Aaron Jones is star.

Defense has talent, but you've got to have a first two seconds. But now you know how to have zero secession plan from Rogers to whatever's like you had far to Rogers, great for 20 plus years. All right. Ask yourself, do you really ever have a secession plan for Brady in his prime or Mahomes or Burrow, you just roll with your star. If the biggest problem in your organization is, you know, we don't have a succession plan for our Hall of Fame quarterback who's still great.

That ain't a problem in the NFL. But he's 10, 15 years older than Burrow and Mahomes. He's in his 30s. Aaron, by the way, Aaron talks a lot about retirement. That would concern me. But if Watson's as good as we think in Romeo Dobbs and you get a couple more picks, I'm just, I'm not saying. It's not bad.

Everybody's seen him He's got some talent Well you ask you a question And you ramble on Is he a starting quarterback? Yeah That's the answer Yeah

Yeah All right Schreger Peter Schreger Fox Sports He's rolling his eyes at all this nonsense. Rolling his eyes at this nonsense. Am I ridiculous? You're not ridiculous.

I think, as the great Sean Payton puts it on when we have our talks, it's not Jordan loving Green Bay. It's Jordan-like. If they loved them, you'd see them, and maybe they'd have more out of them. By now at this point, I think they know what they've got, and you said that right up top. That said, Gino's a free agent.

you know, Sam Darnold is a 25-year-old free agent. Drew Locke is a free agent. That Seattle quarterback position in that room could get really interesting this offseason. All right. John Robinson, Tennessee, both J.Mack and I, when it happened during the show, we're like, that never happens. My guess is Vrable's the guy, and Vrable now runs the show. You tell me what happened.

Yeah, and the really interesting thing is they signed John Robinson, the general manager, the Titans, to a six-year extension last. to off-season. He's being paid out till 2027 by the Tennessee Titans. So your immediate thought is, okay, I watched Titans Eagles on Fox last week, and A.J. Brown was dancing in the end zone, and that must have pissed somebody off so badly if they fired the GM. Doesn't work like that.

Not in season, not for a guy who's got his team in first place in the division. This was, what I'm told, many months in the works, maybe even many years in the works, and it's just a collaborative workplace environment, and it's not only between Vrable, but it's also with the ownership and Amy Adam Strunk, who's the owner. So they ripped the Band-Aid off. And in his replacement is a guy named Ryan Cowden, who will have GM interviews this off-season and had GM interviews and interest last off-season.

It's considered like a rising star in front offices. He's getting this interim label as the GM of the Titan. It's very interesting to see if that was a preemptive move to say, hey, things aren't working out with J-Rod, but we don't want to lose his number two this summer. So Brock Purdy was a really good four-year starter at Iowa, state and the one thing he did shrags he's accurate shanahan matt shob matt ryan he doesn't want undisciplined run around dude just distribute the ball i watch brock purdy and i'm like that works

you can win a playoff i mean you tell me what you're hearing yeah it's tough they didn't put a waiver claim in for baker mayfield they didn't call cam newton or ryan fitzpatrick or drew breeze and try to beg him out of retirement you know it some would call it hubris or an arrogance from Kyle Shanahan, but in that building, they feel like they can win with Brock Purdy. And I know that sounds absurd considering his mystery irrelevant. But to your point, he was 41 career starts in college. He's the all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completion, completion percentage at Iowa State.

And through the process of this thing, Jimmy G wasn't there all summer. So Brock Purdy was the number two to Trey Lance was getting a lot of reps in practice. And of course, in minicamp, Trey Lance goes down. Who's been playing with the scout team the entire season? It's been Brock Purdy. So he's the one facing Bosa and facing Fred Warner and facing Dre Greenlaw every day. And if you've got the confidence from those guys and you've got the confidence going in from Adibo Samuel and a George Kittle. And then in your first game, you take that hit from Jalen Phillips and you stand strong in the pocket and you deliver,

that might be enough for San Francisco. Their defense is that good. And their run game and their offensive line is that good that they can win games with Brock Purdy. You know, they're favored by four points against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. with Brock Purdy under center. I think Vegas agrees. People are confident that they can do it just enough. Don't hurt us.

That's the key. So Andy Reid loved resurrecting Michael Vick. Josh McDaniel thought he could solve Tebow's issue. Sean McVeigh, Taseom Hill. Does McVe look at Baker and think, I can get more out of them than other guys can? What do you make of the move? All right.

Here's the analogy I'll make. First of all, cool quick story. 2018, I'm at the Combine. and McVeigh and I are having breakfast when he first landed. And he says to me, I know I'm on a Southwest flight. I'm like, time out. You work for Stan Crunky and you're in a Southwest flight. Yeah, Dave, I'm on a Southwest flight from L.A. to Indianapolis.

And I sat next to Baker Mayfield the whole flight. I'm like, what? He's like, yeah, he's going to be a top pick. And I just wanted to pick his brain. Love his swag, like everything about him. And I don't think either one of them would imagine four years later that he'd be his coach. I also want to say that, how do I put this? both these guys could be using each other a little bit.

And I think we've all been in relationships after tough breakups or after a rough go at things romantically where you find someone else and you say, let's just have fun. I think that's what this is. Baker is going to make a million dollars over the last few weeks of the season. I don't think there's any great long-term plan for Baker in Los Angeles. And I don't think Baker necessarily expects to have any great long-term plan. But for McVeigh, this season's a lost season. Here comes Baker-Mayfield.

Let's at least get an upgrade at quarterback. And for Mayfield, here's a potential four to five-week audition for the rest of the NFL as I hit free agency. I think they're both going to have a little fun here. And I think they're both going to use each other for their own personal career accolades and what they can do moving forward. Well, you were the first guy in the country that you texted me and said, there's this kid named Patrick Mahomes. And I remember it. And you sent me a piece of video. And you said, and I'm like, well, then why is me playing?

And you're like, it's just part of the plan. Just wait. So one of the things that's great about not only Mahomes, but Burrow, they're better, the more tape you get on them late in the year. And that's the star. That's a star. The more video you had on Larry Bird Magic, it didn't matter. Peyton Manning.

Stars are great, the more film you get. Burrow and Mahomes are classic examples. If you don't have a star, they're more vulnerable. So Daniel Jones is 6 and 1. Day Bowl brings in his offense. And oh my, my. But over the last five games, one win, losses. Shragues, you know the Giants and Jets as well as anybody.

If he goes out this week against Jalen, who, by the way, is a star. And Jalen looks like a star. And Daniel is what he is. Are the Giants privately upstairs? Have they made their mind up on Daniel? Here's the luxury they have on Daniel Jones. they inherited him. So if they want to wipe their hands clean at the end of this thing,

it's not like one of them made a bad pick or that it's on them. They inherited him. There's no fifth year option. So he is a pure free agent at the end of the season. Their other option is to franchise tag him, meaning you're going to pay him close to $30, $35 million, or you're going to sign him to an extension. I can't in good faith say that Daniel Jones is going to come out there

and get some $25, $30 million extension. However, over the last four weeks here, They've got the Eagles, they've got the commanders, they've got a few more games. If this guy can put it together and will them to the playoffs, I think it's a real conversation. Maybe it's a two to three year deal and it's $18 to $20 million. If they flame out and the air goes completely out of the balloon, I think there's a chance they would explore a free agency or the draft. The Jalen Hertz thing is interesting because you're looking at Jalen Hertz, second round pick across from you. And if the Saints keep losing, the Eagles have their pick.

Right now the Eagles have the fifth overall pick because they trade away. the Saints last year in the draft. Howie Roseman's a genius with this stuff. So they have the fifth overall thing. They're not thinking quarterback right now because they surrounded their second round pick with all this other talent and they're paying him second round money. That deal is ending for Daniel Jones and the Giants. They're not paying him on his rookie deal next year.

That's a real tough decision to make. And they didn't inherit him. So they can walk away and not say, okay, we made a mistake. Nope. They can go and do their own thing. I think the final few weeks of the season are going to be really important for Daniel Jones in that decision-making process. Now, Joe Douglas and Robert Sala, they chose Zach Wilson.

That's a, okay. I said this two weeks ago. I said, don't bench him. And then I watched Mike White and I thought, oh, hell, Mike's the better quarterback right now. Like, I'm not, I don't even think it's, I don't even think it's close. What's happening in New York with that? That's their guy. Yeah.

And it's, it's, you know, the players come off the plane in Minnesota and they're wearing Mike white T-shirts. I mean, this is like there. here's the thing. I think everyone likes Zach Wilson. This sounds like I'm doing participation awards here. Everyone likes Zach Wilson. He had lost the confidence over the course of the season. His best football

was in week three when he played against the Steelers and then he regressed significantly. They have hope that he can turn this thing around and that maybe he does see action again at the end of this season, whatever reason. Fine. I think next offseason is going to be a really important year for Zach Wilson. I don't think he's necessarily

going to be the number one coming out of the gates. And if Mike White gets hot, and in this market. I'm in New York. And Jason knows. He's a lifelong jet fan. Like, if this guy can rattle off some wins again to the playoffs, this is Jeremy Lynn. This is all the great stories. This goes back to Kevin Moss or Shane Spencer. Like, we've seen this in New York. Like, everyone loves that long shot story. And right now it's Mike White. He's just got to win a couple more games to keep this thing going. Yeah. No, I think, you know, sometimes, Shregs, you know this. If you make a mistake, just own it and move off it. Like, stop doubling down on it. Like,

if Brock Purdy can play. And all of a sudden, you'll wait. up and the Trey Lance thing in camp doesn't look good. You can try to fool people, but I'm with you. Mike White, I think he's got the room. I think the guy's like, he's bigger athlete. I think he's got the room. He's tough. He took some real hits against Minnesota and he delivered and there was no problems.

And then he kind of put it on himself after the game. You know, in defense of Zach Wilson, he's 23 years old. You know, like, he's 20, Kenny Pickett's 25. Right, right. He's 23 years old. Like, we threw him into the fire. here into New York, the number one media market that said, I don't think there's any

question right now. Mike White gives him the better chance to win. Shregs, good morning football, NFL network. We love them on our network. He's got a podcast now. He's multi-platform, multimedia guy. Shregs, you had all sorts of good stuff today. The Brock Purdy stuff was great. Good seeing you, bud. You're the best, Colin.

You're watching in the world now the best players. Pretty much the best players in the world. Yeah, there's a couple guys who didn't make it, Mosala for Egypt. Some other guys are not here, but ultimately it's, yeah, the best of the best. J-MAC with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.

We've had a habit of some breaking news during the show over the last month. This one's not good, Colin Buffalo Bills. It's official, Von Miller is having ACL surgery. They did exploratory look at his, after his knee injury, and it sounds like he indeed has torn his ACL. Sean McDermott, the head coach just announced he's done for the season. Colin, this is a big loss. Anyway, he's slice it.

If you remember the season opener against the Rams, Von Miller, two sacks. The big game against Mahomes and the Chiefs, which locked up home field advantage if they win it, he had a sack in that game. I'm sorry, two sacks in that game. They do have some depth at edge rusher, but a bunch of guys are injured. They're going to have to chase Burrow and Mahomes in a playoff game. This is not great for Buffalo. No, and especially when Burrow and Mahomes.

Holmes, like all great quarterbacks, need to be pressured, or they'll carve you up. That's how Tampa beat Mahomes in the Super Bowl. It's relentless. Didn't you think, though, the Vaughn Miller, I mean, the Rams liked him and didn't resign him. Didn't you think the Buffalo contract was a little over the top for his age? Maybe. I mean, that's potential hindsight, you know, like he was really good this season.

I think he had eight or nine sacks. Yeah. It's just a big loss for Buffalo, and they feel a little snake-bitten. Can never quite get over the hump. I mean, the brutal loss to KC last year in over two. Tomorrow, if Cincinnati played Buffalo tomorrow, who would you take? Well, I'm done betting against the Bengals. That has cost me some money in the last couple weeks.

I just can't figure out your boy, Joe Burrow. I mean, he's a killer. He's our Joe Montana. And I'm looking at the Browns this week, six-point dogs. By the way, Burrow has never beaten the Cleveland. I don't know what's up with that. It's just a weird oddity. All right, next up, what do we have here?

Not good news from the New York Giants. You know, they were hot to start the season, but Brian Daibold's dealing with some interim. Controversy. A lot of negativity after these losses to the Lions and Cowboys and the tie against the commanders. Two players have publicly vented about playing time. I think one's a linebacker. I don't know what position the other guy plays. But Brian Dable has pledged to conduct private conversations with some of these guys. He inherited a mess. Gettleman was incompetent. So, I mean, this, again, this is people that are banging on Josh McDaniels of the Raiders. That is not an eight-game

rebuild. The Giants are not a one-season rebuild. Dayball's been great. Great example. They start six and one. He brings his offense in. Now everybody has tape on Daniel Jones and knows how to defend him. So he doesn't have the right quarter. He's got a great left tackle, a star running back. Fibodeau has been terrific. Oh, Thibodeau's been a monster. Yeah, they got to rebuild their O-line. They got to rebuild their receiving court. Now, he's an offensive guy, but you've got to be fair here. The Jets roster is ready to win games. If they had a quarterback, the giant, is still in major rebuild mode, all over the place. They exceeded expectations for the first half of the season.

A lot of luck involved. Colin, they've got the Eagles this week. And then Washington next week in a rematch, which is basically a playoff elimination game in Washington. I will also note the Giants defense was on the field for 82 snaps on Sunday. They played overtime. And now they play against the Eagles who are looking like a machine. The line's gone up to seven.

I'm on the Eagles. I know it's a big number, divisional matchup on the road. I can't make a case for the Giants here. Don't disagree. Final story, 49ers lost Jimmy G. Obviously to the broken foot. And Brock Purdy, aka Mr. Irrelevant, is now they're a guy. Purdy was really good.

As you said against the dolphins. This gave Joe Montana the belief. The Niners can win it all, even with Mr. Irrelevant under center. Here's what Joe Montana said. Mr. Irrelevant was pretty well relevant last weekend. I think they got a chance. I mean, their defense is playing well. when you got a good defense, you can make a lot of mistakes on offense,

and those guys have a tendency to make it up for you. You got a good defense, so it's okay to punt in this game. Bill Walsh always said, hey, we got a good defense. Early in the game, it's okay to punt the ball. We don't need to make early mistakes and give them a short field. Well, I think something to remember about this league, which, this is not baseball. Most of your great baseball players are first-round picks or second-round picks. in the NBA, Yokic is a

Dramon Green. Those are total outliers. Great players in the second round. Half of the players in this league are undrafted. We've had Hall of Famers undrafted. And people don't have a lot of film on Brock Purdy. They're going to go back to the Iowa State stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm an NFL team this week, Tampa Bay, Todd Bowles says, give me some Iowa State film.

Interesting. You don't have any film on him. It's preseason game again. against backups. Because preseason now, that film's irrelevant because nobody plays starters in the preseason. So nobody has any film on it. And I'm not saying he's going to build your franchise around him, but there are a lot of, I mean, I remember a few years ago when the Seahawks picked up Chris Carson running back in the seventh round. Like for six years, he was one of the emerging stars in the league.

Antonio Gates wasn't drafted. There, I think it's the Chargers. Go look at their draft board. I think they got a fullback last year out of Purdue in the seventh round. And a guard out of Georgia in the sixth round, they put that six-round guard at left tackle. And he started and was like, good. There's a lot of talent out there. So the football outsiders pulled some numbers on Purdy in college.

He was a good deep ball thrower. Like 30 touchdowns on deep aerial passes. Listen, this Tampa defense, we just saw him on Monday night. Andy Dalton, who's terrible under the lights, kind of carved them up, made no mistakes. I know a lot of people are saying Tampa, Tampa, Tampa this week. Hey, I'm not that down on Brock Purdy was, I read a story yesterday on the internet. Alabama offered him a scholarship. Now, again, what you read in the internet, but I'm reading around, it's like he was offered bigger than Iowa State.

Matt Campbell sold him. He was like a three or four star recruit. This isn't some guy who came out of nowhere total. Start it for four years. If he was three inches taller, he's a third round pick. No, I mean, seriously, that's how silly this stuff can get. is that sometimes it's like you don't have the measurables. A lot of those six-seventh-round guys are highly productive in college.

They're a little short. They don't have the length. I mean, it comes down. The Seahawks went and drafted a corner in the fifth round who was a receiver in college. Oh, the kid out of UTSA? It's a receiver. Yeah, yeah. And they just liked his length and speed.

They move him over to corner. You know, he didn't have a ton of experience at corner. He's lit the league up. He had a lot of interceptions. But not only a fifth-round pick. from a program none of us ever watch. So it's not like he was a fifth round pick from Alabama. He backed up great players.

He was on the other side of the ball. And this isn't Mike White throwing to Garrett Wilson and some dudes. This is Kiddell, Ayuk, Debo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey. Like, he's got some help. I didn't watch the kid from UTSA play a single snap in college. I'd tell you. But, I mean, people, you know, talk about the fact that he came in as a receiver. I mean, look at Richard Sherman's career.

I watched him in Pac-12 football. I was like, okay. I think he's another guy who was wide receiver, and they converted him to defensive back. I mean, I watched Richard Sherman. I thought he was good. I didn't think he was a Hall of Famer. You know, some of these guys,

they get drafted late, they play with a chip on their shoulder. I don't know if Purdy can name every quarterback drafted ahead of him like Brady can. Well, also, do we think that sometimes kids develop later? Of course. Late bloomers. Like some people physically and mentally just develop later. Or they never have good.

great coaching. I mean, Josh Allen's at Wyoming. And then he gets Brian Dable. I mean, nothing against Wyoming coaches. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. The Broncos play calling switch has led to no change for the Broncos. They're still awful. And as I've said, this is my big whiff on the season. I thought this was going to work. Why? Because I watched Brady go to Tampa, an old Brady who everybody said was kind of shot, didn't really have it lost at home to the Titans in the playoffs. Brady's kind of old, and I watched him win a Super Bowl.

And then Matt Stafford, who could never win big games in Detroit, goes to the Rams, and all of a sudden the Rams win the Super Bowl. And Russell Wilson looks at it and thinks, I got a defensive coach, C plus running backs, a bad offensive line, and four straight years. I got a pass rating over 100. Basically, I've done it with D.K. Metcalfe and Tyler Lockett in a bad old line in an antiquated offense. That's the hard thing to figure out with Russell Wilson.

His four previous years, he was the only quarterback in the entire league, who for four straight years before this year had a pass rating over 100. Look at his numbers. He had a 4-to-1 touchdown interception ratio with a bad old line. 66% completion percentage with a bad old line. Who's doing that in this league? Burroughs about it. So all of a sudden, this year it's 83 and a half.

There's no injury and he's 34 years old. Now people go, what about Peyton Manning in Denver? He was like 39 and on his fourth neck surgery. He just fell apart. And he was never really athletic anyway. It is really hard to explain. But here's the thing. I think Nathaniel Hackett's about 50% of the problem.

I think the offensive line is about 25% of the problem. I got some young immature receivers could be 5% of the problem. I don't think it's all Russell, but I absolutely get Russell Wilson. It's sort of like the NBA. If you were a veteran and you looked at LeBron go to Miami, join stars and win, and Kevin Durant go to the Warriors, join stars and win, if you were an all-star, you'd think, well, I'm going to go to an all-star team and win championships because I think I'm as good as those guys. Like, I get the ego of a pro athlete. I thought it was a great move. I don't have an answer. It's easy to go on social media and say he's washed. He was not washed. The numbers show no

indication. If you can get a hundred-sum pass-for rating, 4-1 T-D interception ratio with a bad on line, so bad they had the draft two tackles. With a mediocre running game, with a defensive coach that was mocked by people like Warren Sharp who follow football analytics. They used to make fun of Pete Carroll's offenses. He won't washed. I mean, it wasn't like Denver was the only team that wanted him. Denver was where he wanted to go. They had, you know, he'd have an offensive coach. Stafford got an offensive coach.

Brady got an offensive coach. He was going to get an offensive coach. Had young receivers. Had a left tackle. Had a defense. Like, I get it. But, you know, it's one of those things where I know everybody, even the people that didn't think it was a great move, nobody thought it would be this bad.

I don't know anybody who I, respect who thought it would be this bad. Everybody said, boy, that's a lot to give up. Or, you know, he's kind of, Greg Coasell used to always say, he's kind of hard to explain. He's got like planned ad libs. But he was one of the great deep ball throwers, can't hit it. He was one of the great fourth quarterbacks. Can't do it. It's just one of those things. There's no precedent for it. Don't tell me Peyton Manning in Denver. He was late 30s. He was on four neck surgeries. He was wobbling around at that point anyway. I'm watching Russell Wilson. year and a half ago. There's no injuries. 34. I'm watching them a year and a half ago run all over the

place. Is it ego? Is it coach? I think the coaching in the O line are a huge part of it. And one of the reasons is, and I say this using college and pro, go look at Michigan the year before Jim Harbaugh, Brady Hoke. A year later, they win 10 games. And that's with young kids. Go look at Lincoln Riley, four and eight to 11 and two. I think sometimes we underestimate coaching. In college, coaching is way bigger than quarterback play. Coaches are the stars. In the NFL, quarterbacks are the stars, but go look at Kirk Cousins and the Vikings,

Mike Zimmer to a rookie head coach who puts his arm around Kirk Cousins. It's a totally different offense, a totally different team. The one possession losses are now all one possession wins. And I think Hackett is just bad, like really, really bad. That's my explanation because I can't fit. figured out. Your explanation is what? You said 50% hack it, right? At least. I'll go 80% hack it. I'm not putting this on Russ.

He's been too good for too long to just say all of a sudden, ah, he's a big problem. Right? He's been good in first halves. The first half numbers are good on the script. But when they have to adjust, it feels like Hackett's not making any adjustments. And I don't know if Russ is afraid to call his own number and just say, guys, I'm doing this like Brady did against the Saints. but at some point, Russ has to go and just say, like, I'm not going to call what you're doing. But then you become Carson Wentz against Peterson and Philly. Remember how ugly that guy? So I can't put a lot of this on, Russ.

Ask yourself this. Matt Ryan got the right coordinator, not a coach, Kyle Shanahan. He got the right coordinator. Matt Ryan was the MVP of this league. Not with a coach, just the right coordinator. So if you don't think coaching matters, just the right coordinator. Look at Tua with Mike McDaniel. And they got a left tackle.

Yeah. So they just got a left tackle, a receiver and a coach. Tua's lost Sunday was his first loss in like a year and a half of when he starts and finishes. Just to go back at the beginning of the season, Colin, Vegas, U.I, everybody thought Denver was like a 10, 11, 12 win team. That was their playoff team. Yeah. Everybody thought they were a playoff team.

So now next year, we keep saying this is not a good job, right? Because Russ's cap hit goes up. Do we need to rethink that? I mean, they have the most, they have the league high players on IR and salary cap on IR. Assuming they come in healthy next year, why can't this be a 10-11 win team? They're running back. Giovante Williams was very good last year. Well, let's be honest.

Okay. I'll give you the reason. Sean Payton takes the Chargers job. So then it's Andy Reid, offensive genius. Sean Payton, offensive genius. Josh McDaniels, I'm sorry, but it's working. Yeah, well, for three games. So, fine, so go out and find the next Sean McVe.

How hard can that be? What was McVeigh before he took the Rams up? How hard can it be to find somebody great in any industry? Really hard. I don't know if he could pull it, but I would love to see your reaction on air when the Rams announced they hired Sean McVeigh, who was like 32 years old. I didn't know who he was. Nobody did.

So why can't the Broncos brain trust go out and find the next thing? But for every Sean McVeigh, I'll give you a Ben McAdoo. I mean, there's four Ben McAdues and Freddie Kitchens for every Sean McVeigh. How many great coaches in the NFL now? Six? The guy who hired McAdoo, I think, is now flipping burgers up the road. By the way, we thought Hackett. Work with Aaron Rogers.

Staley. Go look at the last 10 hires. How many home runs are the last 10 NFL hires? We like Daible. Last five games, he's won three and one. And we like him. Is this time to go get Andy Reed Disciple and Eric B. enemy? Is it time to bring him on? I don't know. He went to Colorado. He's obviously

familiar. I don't want to say he's a familial son, but, you know, he did a lot of damage in that state of Colorado under Andy Reed. I don't know. Is he a guy? You got to find an offensive board. No doubt about it. Yeah, because the defense is filthy. Outside of the Niners, it's the best defense in the league. Personnel-wise, it is a fantastic defense. That should be on the field constantly. A homework assignment for this show. We need to find five guys that the Broncos must interview. You like Waldron, right, in Seattle? Well, I think it's a name. I don't know if he goes, you know, did I, I didn't ever knew Tom Coughlin was going to beat Belichick twice in the Super Bowl. I remember him at Boston

College. He beat Notre Dame. Notre Dame was number one. Boston College beat him. And you're like, oh, this guy's, you look, crusty old guy's pretty good. Then he goes to Jacksonville and makes them a playoff team. And you're like, oh, wow. Then he goes to the Giants. If he had told me, yeah, he beats Belichick and Brady twice in the Super Bowl. I'd said, you're out of your mind. You never know who, you never know if these guys are going to hit or not. All right. How about that? Do you kick the tires on? Do you kick the tires on a college coach. I'm just going to throw it out there because I think he's been very good the last two years. Chip Kelly. You know, God, no, we've done that. No, no. I like Chip.

He knows football. I like him. I know him. He's no his offense. Come on. No. Absolutely not. You're you're out here saying, you're so funny. You're like, how hard can it be to find Sean McVeigh? And your first choice is Chip Kelly. That wasn't my first choice. He's like the fourth guy. I said be at him earlier. I will come up with a name tomorrow. We can get our minds together and find a guy. Hey, hey, how about this? Detroit Lions' offense has been off the charts with Jared Goff, Amara St. Brown, a bunch of other dudes you don't know.

Ben Johnson is their offensive coordinator. I want to interview that guy. I don't know much about him. I don't either. Maybe he's the next McVeigh. Let's bring him in and interview him and say, Ben, what do you want? What do you want to do with Russ? By the way, that division, I got Andy Reid.

I got Josh McDaniel. I don't care what anybody says. Mack Jones has regressed horribly since Josh McDaniel left. So that guy can coach. He may have failed in Denver. So I got two studs. The Chargers lose this weekend. The Spanos family's making calls.

Sean Payton and Harbaugh, that's the only job Sean Payton and Harbaugh would absolutely unequivocally take a phone call on. Now I got Sean Payton twice a year. I got Andy Reid twice a year. I got Josh McCa. and they all have quarterbacks. So do you.

Right? You got Russell Wilson. Wait a minute. You're bailing on him? I'm not bailing. 12 games. He hasn't been great. I'm saying Herbert.

Yeah. Mahomes. These guys are like in their prime. They're, you know, big. Hey. We need names, people. We need to help the Broncos because clearly they need help finding a head coach. Sorry, Hackett and his family, obviously.
