Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Winning on Clay is an art. The rallies are relentless. And at the French Open, only the toughest survive. I'd know. I competed there for decades. Join me, Renee Stubbs, on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast for no-nonsense breakdowns of the biggest matches, the toughest players, and the moments that define Roland Garris.
Starting point is 00:01:20 She can win. She's an outsider to win the French fame. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any service. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on.
Starting point is 00:01:47 A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRedio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Here we go. Hour two, it is a Monday. Already won big NFL trade in the books. Giants move off, Dexter Lawrence. Bingle scoop him up and give the Giants the number 10 pick. LeBron's still doing LeBron-like things. Matt Hasselbeck around the corner, it is NFL draft week. We have been told this morning, keep your eye for more moves over the next 48 hours, a week, draft, but there's a handful of teams that are not that far away that will potentially be
Starting point is 00:03:08 moving up. We'll stay there. We do it every Monday. Colin right, calling wrong, and here we go. Where Colin was right? Well, I said, I really think the Eastern Conference is the Celtics and everybody else, and they flexed against the Sixers. It was over four minutes in. Jason Tatum, he doesn't even have to be the number one. Right now, Jalen Brown's the one. And he's the the 1A. They have the smartest exact Brad Stevens in the Eastern Conference. They don't miss on picks. They don't miss on
Starting point is 00:03:40 acquisitions. So in a year in which Jason Tatum maybe wasn't going to play, look at the efficiency numbers. The Celtics are actually better than last year. Where Colin was wrong. KD's absence, open the door.
Starting point is 00:03:56 I thought if the Lakers could win a game early in this series. It wasn't just that. It was how they won the game. LeBron, Rui, Aiton, Marcus Smart, Luke Kinnart, everybody played well. Urgency, that's about as well as you can play without Luca and Austin Reeves. So now if you're Houston, you cross your fingers on Kevin Durant, Shengoon will absolutely play better.
Starting point is 00:04:24 I thought the Lakers defensively played as well as you can. Now again, Katie was out that helps, but I was wrong, man. where Colin was right? Well, I said when the Eagles went out and acquired, Donavian Wicks from the Packers, I said, that means something's going on because now DeBonte Smith is a 1A. They bring in a big target like A.J. Brown from Green Bay,
Starting point is 00:04:51 plenty of receivers in the draft. And a story today is, what do you know? It looks like AJ Brown is likely to become a patriot. Okay, I was two years early on this, but I still think Philadelphia will be fine, and A.J. Brown for the first time in his career will get a legitimate A-level quarterback. Where Colin was wrong. The Bengals, and I am shocked, went aggressive.
Starting point is 00:05:22 It's the first time since 1989 they won't have a first round pick. There is no more conservative team in this league with the draft and acquisitions than Cincinnati. And I like the move because their defense, the last three years, total defense, bottom of the league, Joe Burroughs timeline. I mean, he's had three surgeries. I like it. I can like it for the Bengals and think the Giants are going to be okay too. But I was shot. Bengals just don't do this. This is not what the Cincinnati Bengals organization does. I could see, you know, there are teams out there, the Rams, the Eagles. You know, I could see teams being aggressive, did not see the Bengals doing this.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Where Colin was right? The second highest payroll in baseball, the Mets have lost 11 straight. Worst team in baseball. Other high payroll teams, Blue Jays, a mess, Phillies, lost, Astros, awful. A lot of that's injuries. Mets are the worst team in baseball. Meanwhile, the low payroll A's, guardians, rays, Reds, are playing great baseball. Don't tell me you can't compete unless you have the Dodgers payroll.
Starting point is 00:06:32 In fact, I'd argue that Dodgers are the only high payroll team playing really well, and so much of that is they're well-managed and smartly run. Where Colin was right? Well, Aaron Rogers, 83 days since Pittsburgh hired Mike McCarthy, and they can't get a hold to Aaron Rogers, which is, as I've said, this is his MO. Aaron likes to make authority uncomfortable. It's his way of exhibiting power, and I'm at this point totally comfortable with it. I actually think if I was Mike McCarthy, I'd go with Will Howard.
Starting point is 00:07:07 I'd consider Ty Simpson. Mini camp starts today, voluntary mini camp. So if you're going to get into the Aaron Rogers business, this is protocol. This is the way it's run. So I'm done beating up on Aaron for this. If Pittsburgh's willing to be in the Aaron business, this is how it works. works. Where Colin was wrong. I got really excited when the Charlotte Hornets beat Miami.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I'm like, this is interesting. This is a team that can compete. Two days later, they got stomped by Orlando. Lamello ball pretty much blame the coaches. Just too late. I should have been doing that from the jump for real. Like I said, we was doing a lot of plays and stuff, just getting pushed around and everything. I feel like I should have just took the ball from the beginning. Well, okay. That is a way.
Starting point is 00:08:00 Where Colin was right? We don't need a seven-game first-round series. OKC-1 by 35, San Antonio by 13, seven of the eight games, blowouts, average margin, 17 points. The first round is too long. This is why college basketball, despite not having close to the talent, does very well with ratings. Urgency.
Starting point is 00:08:22 A three-game series, to me, in the first round would make all these games fascinating because all it takes is for an underdog to just, I mean, honestly, just get hot for a half, steal one of the first two games, and then you got March Madness and Sudden Death. But my takeaway over the weekend was all these series, almost all of them feel over already. Where Colin was right. Braylon Mullins is staying at Yukon. Another reason I love the NIL.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Why? because the quality of college basketball is higher than it's been ever. Because Mullins would have been like a borderline lottery pick somewhere around like 10, 11, 12, 13, be an NBA player, probably a fifth best starter or off the bench. Instead, he'll be a college basketball star. This is why college basketball is a buy if all sports was a stock. And for the record, Dan Hurley, who everybody said is just so inappropriate. and he is so mean.
Starting point is 00:09:24 And another player's like, yeah, I'm going to stay with Hurley and not GoPro. Colin Wright, Colin wrong, and a Monday, it is draft weekend with that Matt Hasselbeak, 18 years and the NFL is now joining us live. All right, let's start with a Dexter Lawrence trade. I kind of like it for both teams. What's your takeaway? Yeah, no doubt. It's great for both teams.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Win-win trades are always fun. They don't always happen that way. But when a new sheriff comes into town, when there's a new head coach, sometimes you don't feel the urgency to win right away. You feel the need to, you know, the opportunity to buy, you know, draft your own guys, build your own team, people that came in with you at the same time. And, you know, if you're the Bengals, you've got a team that's spent a lot of money on offense. We've got a window with a great quarterback and who's probably a little bit impatient
Starting point is 00:10:12 and you have a reputation of not going out and spending money on defense and doing this kind of thing. So it's good for the Bengals in that regard. well. I said with AJ Brown. I went and looked at all of the quarterbacks from Old Miss, Tennessee, and Philadelphia. It wasn't great. Jalen Hertz was easily the best. But I also think what's frustrating is when he was with the Titans, they never threw the ball. They were bottom third in the league, bottom three team. He goes to Philadelphia in the last couple of years, they're bottom three and throwing the football. So these cultures at Tennessee and Philadelphia, It's like, AJ's like, could I get a star quarterback?
Starting point is 00:10:50 Could I get, and I look at this and I think Philadelphia will be fine. They went and got Wicks from Green Bay, Devante Smith, great GM. And I think it'll be the first time AJ Brown will have a coordinator and a quarterback that feel elite. I think sometimes pro athletes, I feel bad for them. Like they just, they spend a career and they never get the great teammate or the great coach. I actually love this for AJ Brown. What would, I mean, how much would you give up for him? Well, you know, it's interesting that you're doing that because you're kind of just showing the numbers and you're showing the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:11:28 But I'll just tell you this, that even though the phrase was run the damn ball when he was in Tennessee with Derek Henry, Mike Vrable was the head coach. And aside from what his contract was, what his bank statement was, AJ Brown was the happiest that he ever was when he was the wide receiver with Mike Vrable. the head coach. And so I think that's what this is about. This is about him being happy. You know, the dollar signs are there. He'll have his money and all that. And obviously the quarterback. But this is, this is something I think you called it two years ago on when Colin was right when Colin was wrong. Called it two years ago, this has been in the making. So I think for the Patriots, if they can get a little bit of what they got out of Stefan Diggs this year, plus, you know, kind of a younger, healthier, been there, done it with you
Starting point is 00:12:14 before. Go back and look at Derek Henry and the Titans, you know, even though AJ's numbers weren't amazing, when he was just even on the field, they were a way better team. They were a way better team when he's just on the field. And that's the kind of wide receiver that he is. He helps everybody around him, whether he's getting the ball or not. So I'm going to mention some players. So these are draft prospects that you have kind of worked with, combined Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson, Mackay Lemon, Tyson. There's a lot of talk about Jordan Tyson. Played at Arizona State. I watched him. You can just tell. Certain players just, they look like pro players when they're in college.
Starting point is 00:12:55 He gets banged up. What was your takeaway on Lemon and Tyson as wide receivers, just as personalities? Because as we talk about wide receivers in this league, it has always been the personality position. And then when you see a JSN come in and you're like, he acts like a 13-year veteran what should we expect from tate and lemon and tyson are they big personalities or in your dealings are they like they're they're ready to go and play these are really grounded guys yeah no for sure those two two guys you just mentioned carnal tate jordan tyson like uh grounded uh not loud but yet very competitive uh respectful uh certainly have the respect of the group uh you know I don't think Colonel Tate had his best day running the 40 that day.
Starting point is 00:13:43 But the consensus was, hey, don't worry. You know, like, that dude's fast. We don't care what the clock says. You know, with Jordan Tyson, you know, I think he might have had a hamstring injury. But there's a confidence about guys, even when they're hurt, kind of like an itchiness to say, like, oh, man, when I get my opportunity, I'm going to be ready. And I am ready. And the tape, I think ultimately, you know, talking about the combine, ultimately the two things that matter the most are your person, at the combine and then the film that you put out during the year what it was like with 11 on 11 tackle football and there's there's guy after guy after guy that maybe didn't have the best showing at the combine but go on and have great great careers and it's almost like the scouts are rooting against you like if a scout likes you and you show up at the combine he's rooting for you to run a bad 40 times he's rooting for you to have a bad day that day so that they can have an opportunity to get you and you mentioned mackay lemon like he's another guy playmaker tough strong
Starting point is 00:14:40 strong physical. A name I would add in there is Jacoby Lane, his teammate. I came away incredibly impressed with him, just as the leader he was, the kind of the day that he had. He said he was six foot four. He felt like he was six foot six, caught everything, made everything look super, super easy. So there were certainly guys that helped themselves in Indian at the combine. So I want to talk New York Giants when they moved off Dexter Lawrence. And so I made this argument. You have the Harbaugh's Jim or John make your football team better very quickly. And so the Giants now have the fifth and the tenth pick. I'll make an argument. If Harbaugh stays in New York for eight years, they will never have the fifth and the tenth pick again.
Starting point is 00:15:22 I'll argue that by next year, they'll be drafting somewhere 18 and below. So my theory on the Giants is your first pick should be about this year. Your second pick should be about the future. and most great tackles, including Andrew Thomas of the Giants, they go early. The top 30 tackles in league history. 28 went first round. You can get receivers, defensive tackles, interior linemen, safeties. You can get them anywhere. I mean, Nick Holman-Whorry was the second round,
Starting point is 00:15:54 the guy's one of the top three safeties in the sport. And my take is giant fans think, well, we have Andrew Thomas. Matt, he's averaging nine and a half starts the last three years. They have a journeyman at right who will be, I would have made. forced into duty to play left. I made the argument with the Giants. Number five pick, help your team today. The number 10 pick, if you can move down, get another tackle,
Starting point is 00:16:20 because the whole operation's about keeping Jackson Dart out of the blue tent. Is that crazy? No, it's not crazy. It kind of reminds me when Mike Holmgren was rebuilding the Seahawks, we kind of made one of these big trades, and we ended up with the top 10 pick, and then pick number 17. we drafted Corinne Robinson, a very explosive wide receiver who had a ton of potential, and also Steve Hutchinson, who ended up being a Pro Bowl, you know, perennial Pro Bowl or in a Hall of Famer.
Starting point is 00:16:46 And so, you know, basically what you're doing is you're getting like a sure thing and then a guy with major upside. I think is kind of what you're saying. Yeah. But, you know, when I think about Harbaugh, you know, John Harbaugh and the Ravens, I think of, you know, they're a top five team. Just, you know, for the last decade, they're a top five team in the NFL in terms of a franchise. They don't have the Super Bowl trophies that the Chiefs do, but they're top five. They're just always in it, always consistent. And I think if you take that kind of same approach for who you're going to be drafting,
Starting point is 00:17:17 I don't know that you need to be all that position specific if you are adding just top-tier blue chip talent. And that's what you have the opportunity to do when you pick at the top 10. So there's a story out that Arizona would strongly consider, Jeremiah Love. Now, their O-line needs help, but there's not a, there's not a, in the top three picks, there's not an offensive lineman you would take. I argued that there is, there is sometimes, like, there's a fast food place called Raising Cains. They have four things on the menu. One of them is toast, and they made $5 billion. And my take is they don't do a lot, but what they do,
Starting point is 00:17:58 they do really well. And my take on Arizona is actually last year, with Jacoby Brissette, they were Top 10 third down, top 10 passing, tight end wide receiver, excellent. You have an offensive coach. Just go get a running back. You don't do much well. But then you will be really exceptional offensive skill players with an offensive coach. And then go next year, get your quarterback. And I know it feels lopsided because they have defensive needs.
Starting point is 00:18:25 But I'm like, you're not going to be after this draft graded everything. But you could be great at one thing. Back, tight end wide receiver. bad idea well i'm listen i've been to raising canes and that is some awesome toast so i mean just you know in fact i think my son picked uh he committed to michigan state because there was a raising canes like right next to campus i mean that's how good it is so listen if jeremiah i love is that good um yeah but but you i think you could also trade back from that from that third pick and help your team like that's the thing with some of these teams with a lot of needs uh
Starting point is 00:19:04 there's opportunities to trade back. Again, when you have a new head coach and there's a new sheriff in town, you don't need to win right away. And so I think sometimes when you, you know, the secret for me is I look at the GM and the head coach and when their contract is up. That's when your team needs to be really good, like on the, on the upswing. They don't need to be the best and, you know, ready to roll year one. So is Jeremiah, Jeremiah love awesome?
Starting point is 00:19:30 I mean, both those Notre Dame running backs are great. But I do think that this draft will see more people try to trade back because there are some teams that are ready to win right now, ready to play right now, and they're going to be trying to trade up. All right. Finally, an obligatory Aaron Rogers question. So I have pivoted to this over the last several years. You get in the Aaron business. He's disappearing in the offseason. Don't like it. Don't acquire him. It's not on Aaron. It's on you. Aaron's not like making you guess. Aaron's like, guys, I went to Egypt when I was with the Jets. I'm married now. I'm disappearing. So they're starting some voluntary mini camp.
Starting point is 00:20:14 He's nowhere to be heard from. I don't know. It doesn't bother me. I'm like, if you're going to allow Aaron to do it, it's on you. What do you make of him basically being invisible since McCarthy got hired? Well, I don't blame Aaron Rogers. I, in fact, blame what happened to Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousin signs a free agent deal before the draft,
Starting point is 00:20:35 and then the Falcons go and pick a quarterback eighth overall and Michael Pennock. So the smart play for Aaron Rogers is to hold the leverage, sit back, sign, you know, show up, sign whatever after the draft. So I don't blame him. That's number one. Number two, I don't think the Pittsburgh Steelers signed Mike McCarthy to be their head coach because of Aaron Rogers. I think truly honestly, they felt like this is the right guy.
Starting point is 00:20:57 This guy bleeds black and gold. He's the perfect coach for us. irrelevant what his relationship is with Aaron Rogers. But I believe because he's the head coach, Aaron Rogers is definitely coming back. And so, and then thirdly, I think that, you know, and I think maybe this has been floated. I think it would be kind of epic if Aaron Rogers showed up at the draft and kind of announced something, a pick or that he's coming back. The draft, if you haven't been in person, I don't care what city it's in, Philly, Nashville, whatever, I'm sure it'll be incredible in Pittsburgh. They've got literally one of the best fan bases in all of sports.
Starting point is 00:21:32 for him to show up at the draft kind of doing like an announcement there, that'd be pretty sick. It'd be an all-timer. Matt Hasselbeck, love draft week. Good seeing you, buddy. See you, Colin. All right. Raising Keynes is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:21:47 And that's not an ad. It's pretty good. When you can make $4 billion off toast, you're doing something right. I got to ask you, Colin. Is Raising Keynes in Chicago or no? I haven't been a while. Okay, so I think there's just an L.A. thing. I honestly have no idea.
Starting point is 00:22:01 I thought it was crafted in Louisiana. Maybe. Okay, so I've never been before my daughter keeps hearing about Keynes. One just opened up right next to the Chargers facility. So we check it out. Hasselbeck is right. That toast is incredible. It's like better than French toast, which I love for breakfast.
Starting point is 00:22:19 And so we go there now and I'm like all in on toast and just gorging the carbs. I mean, that's a great analogy, by the way, by you. And I will say, to piggyback off Hasselbeck, his take on cousins and pennix is so good. not heard that anywhere. Really good stuff. Yeah. By the way, you tell me I have an idea for a very good team taking a
Starting point is 00:22:41 huge swing up in the draft. I'll talk about that next. One more herd? The herd streams 24 hours a day seven days a week within the IHard Radio app. Search herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. You're ready? NFL fans,
Starting point is 00:23:00 when the lights hit the stage, when the picks go down. We got you. Listen to the best NFL insider, Jay Glazer. One of the best linebackers in LaVar Arington, a man who's been in the war room, former Falcons GM, Terry Fontenough, and Fox Sports host, Jetty Taft.
Starting point is 00:23:19 April 23rd and 5 p.m. Pacific. It's Draft Night Live, and it's brought to you by Express Pros in Webo. Your NFL draft coverage is on Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, dude, huge news? we created our own podcast called Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:23:38 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing,
Starting point is 00:24:10 a bit for the podcast where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:19 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast
Starting point is 00:24:30 from some SNL, late-night comedy guide, Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:24:59 The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jenchian went. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:25:25 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world. right now and I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way,
Starting point is 00:25:59 the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So six teams now have multiple first-round picks. The Jets, the Giants, the Browns, the Chiefs, the Dolphins, and the Cefs,
Starting point is 00:26:30 the Dolphins and the Cowboys. I am not a huge fan of moving up. But hear me out on Kansas City. So there's four things that Chiefs need. Chiefs have depth. They don't have a ton of star power. They need a running back, a cornerback, an edge, and a right tackle. Well, they solved running back with Kenneth Walker via Seattle.
Starting point is 00:26:54 So they only need a corner and an edge and a right tackle. what about Kansas City giving up both their firsts to move up with the number two or three pick to get Bailey the edge rusher. So then you have solved high-end running back, high-end top edge rusher in the draft. As long as you don't have to trade after your first round picks, your second pick, because there's all sorts of corners at the top of the second round. And then you say, you say, well, what about right tackle? Yep, it's a need. but they did acquire backup Jalen Moore from the Niners. And in-house, it is possible.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Brett Beach and Andy Reid think it's good enough. It's good enough. And we don't think Spencer Fenno is worth the 10th pick. If he fell to us later, it's different, but he won't. So I'm saying if you really look at what they need, they need some star power because they let go of Trent Mcuff, McDuffie. And so they went and got a star out of the backfield, Kenneth Walker, who had a great playoff run for Seattle. So that box is checked. Go get Bailey. Edge. Check. Second round pick,
Starting point is 00:28:14 if you can maintain it, plenty of corners. So then you've solved running back, edge, and corner. Now, right tackle. Listen, you're not going to solve all four of them, but I will say they have drafted offensive line very well. Trey Smith, six-round pick, Star Guard. Creed Humphrey, great. They really like their left tackle Simmons. So I mean, to me,
Starting point is 00:28:40 people say, well, I don't want to move up in the draft. If nobody else is doing it, you may have an opportunity. And by the way, Arizona and the Jets that have the second and the third pick, both need multiple players. I think they'd be willing to
Starting point is 00:28:57 take the phone call. Just an idea. Kansas City. You're sitting there at nine. You're like, we got the star running back. Let's go get the star edge. We'll get the corner later. You give up two firsts, maybe a couple mid-round picks.
Starting point is 00:29:13 It's not a star-studded draft. You're not going to get a quarterback where the Jets and the Cardinals have massive leverage. A thought. Brett Veets last week said he's excited about the draft. I think that the fans will be in for a treat next Thursday because I think that, you know, the grades are going to be so close from some of these tackles and D.Ns and other receivers. I think it should be an entertaining night and probably be a lot of trades. And I think that's what a draft like this, when you don't have, you know,
Starting point is 00:29:44 two or three franchise quarterbacks and, you know, a Will Anderson or a Miles Garrett, I think it does lend itself to open up to a lot of fun and a lot of excitement. So I think from a fan's perspective, they should have a lot of fun next Thursday. So think about the teams in this league that we like the roster. Super Bowl teams, Seattle, you know, Buffalo, the Rams, Detroit, Chicago. They don't have the greatest depth across the board. They have holes, but they have four or five stars. You've got Mahomes is a star.
Starting point is 00:30:20 Creed Humphrey, the Center, is a star. Now you have Kenneth Walker, who is a star. are. Kelsey's a fading star. Go get an edge rusher. Go get the best edge rusher in the draft. Give yourself an elite edge rusher. They need star power at the top of the food chain. They don't need another linebacker in the fifth round. Jay Mack am I crazy? I was just listening to the Brett Veach comments. Okay. You're going with two top 10 picks for David Bailey. What if you went to Cleveland and said, we've got five and ten. Can you give us Miles Garrett? They're not giving up Miles Garrett in Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Why? They're going nowhere. They're totally rebuilding. Miles Garrett, it could be the missing piece on a Chief's defense. Two ones for Max Crosby? I'll do two top ten picks for Miles Garrett. Is that not enough? If I'm a GM in this draft, I'm not taking those two first round picks for the best defensive end since Lawrence Taylor. Yeah, but he's aging. He's not, I mean, come on. Dude, he's still unblockable. I would give up if I'm the Jets and you could give me two first rounders a nine and at the end of the,
Starting point is 00:31:26 and you're giving me up for an unproven Texas Tech rush end. I would strongly consider that. Again, I think Bailey is what the chiefs need now because they can win a Super Bowl. The Jets are two drafts away and a coach away. So I'm just saying if I'm Kansas City and I can get Bailey, I've solved running back end. And if you look at Brett Veach's history, he's great at drafting DBs. I mean, they don't miss on a lot of their defensive draft pick. They've missed on some receivers.
Starting point is 00:31:58 They don't miss on defensive draft picks much. I got Bailey in House. I've got Walker. I'll find a corner in the second round on. I mean, Kansas City drafts like John Snyder and Seattle. They don't miss a lot in the defensive side draft pick. Remember the Texans went up for Will Anderson, which Veach basically mentioned Will Anderson. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:16 I mean, you'd have to say Bailey's on that path. I don't know that he's as good as Will. No, Will Anderson was a better prospect. Will Anderson is a... But in this draft, again, did the Jets need a player or four? No, no, the Jets are not moving. I forget the Jets, but your chief's point is interesting.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Because when we were stacking AFC West rosters, Colin, where were the chiefs? They're certainly behind the Chargers. They're certainly behind the Broncos. And the AFC is the quarterback conference. The NFC is the roster conference. The Rams roster, the Seahawks roster, the Lions, the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Those are stacked rosters. The AFC is Mahalms and Alan and Lamar and Burrell and Herbert. It's the quarterback conference. So the bottom line is I'm in a division now, Brett Veetz, and I got Herbert who's getting his tackles back. I got Bow Nix who became a great late game quarterback. Fernando Men knows is now in house. I got the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I don't have the pressure. How do I get the pressure? Move up in the draft. Well, I mentioned Miles Garrett kind of because I got some tinfoil hat buddies in Cleveland who really believed that when Garrett got his contract, we reworked recently, it's because they're going to be moving him. And so people seem to think Philadelphia is the one once they move off A.J. Brown, that Miles Garrett could be in the mix for them.
Starting point is 00:33:33 There's going to be a race for him. Like you said, he's the best defensive rusher in the league. I at least give it a shot. I mean, I like Bailey, but if you can try to get Miles Garrett, Colin? J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Heard line news. All right, sticking in the NFL, we got a little bit of breaking news from the Dallas Cowboys. We got some kicker news. Yes, Brandon Aubrey is now going to be the highest paid kicker in NFL history. Four-year, $28 million extension. We know that's often funny money, but, you know, Brandon Aubrey is automatic. Given the new kickoff rules, he is indispensable. He's going to make about $7 million a year.
Starting point is 00:34:13 If you want to go back maybe a month or two, remember he was holding out, he wanted to be the first $10 million kicker. didn't quite happen, and it sounds like nobody else was interested in paying him that much. The guy's very, very good. He is a legit weapon in this league. Absolutely. I don't have a problem with that at all. I remember years ago I suggested you should be able to draft a kicker,
Starting point is 00:34:34 and people are like, you can't draft kickers. Well, Belichick did during his dynasty, and second of all, in what sport is your highest scoring player not draftable? I don't want you to do it in the first five rounds. If you can go grab a guy, and I just think this is a, he's going to be the leading score on the Cowboys. I'm for it. I mean, Dallas offensively, the line's getting better.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Two receivers. It's a bad running back draft. Not much there. Brandon Aubrey, to me, is one of the safest bets in the league. I would have no problem paying him $7 million a year. Going back to the drafting a kicker, apparently he was with the Birmingham Stallions before the Cowboys. So do you even need to draft a kicker?
Starting point is 00:35:15 I mean, the guy is automatic. All right. sticking in the NFL more NFL news, and that's Trent Williams. I guess draft week is, you know, a deadline to get some stuff done. Trent Williams is going to be sticking with the Niners. No real surprise here. Two-year, $50 million extension. Got 37-mill guaranteed.
Starting point is 00:35:32 That's not bad, despite the California taxes. Well, when you got a smaller quarterback, I mean, I bet if you took Trent Williams last four years, if you went, when he plays when he doesn't, it's a totally different team. Yeah. I mean, he's, the guy blocks out. the sun. $22 million signing bonus. Listen, you got to keep him.
Starting point is 00:35:53 I don't know what to make of the Niners, Colin. I'm not sure. I see George Kittle hanging out with wrestlers. I'm like, what are we doing? I just, I don't know what they're going to be. Still no movement on I. I just don't know if they're going to really be contending anymore. It's sad because they got it.
Starting point is 00:36:09 They got a good player. Too well coached and smartly quarterback. They'll be fine. It would be much easier if you weren't in the division. with Seattle and the Rams. That's the question, is they don't have the complete rosters like those two. They're good, and in a lot of other divisions, I'm like, yeah, there'll be a wildcard team. They'll compete.
Starting point is 00:36:28 The problem with them isn't them. It's the Hawks and the Rams are probably the two best teams. I mean, at the end of last year, go look at your Super Bowl odds. They're both stacked. They got great coaches, great GMs, about eight players each in their prime. The Niners have good players. They're just not in their prime. Yeah, they get a bunch of defenders back, but they lose Sala.
Starting point is 00:36:49 And that's a big hit. Robert Sala's one of the best defensive coaches in the league. Final story comes to the NBA where my guy, Paolo Banquero, he went nuts. Yesterday in Detroit, just a spectacular performance. 23 points, nine rebounds. Sorry, Cade. Paolo was the best player on the court yesterday. Don't want to hear it.
Starting point is 00:37:08 Cade had some empty stats. I know his teammates were missing shots, but Bencaro was what we expected coming out of Duke. This is what we saw when he dropped 40-something in the play. playoffs last year in a game. I mean, this guy's an Olympian. He is a superstar. If he's locked in, I mean, Detroit has no answer for him. Look at him cooking up guys on the perimeter. And when Wendell Carter
Starting point is 00:37:26 is going to outplay Jalen Duren, I mean, Colin, we were high on the magic coming in. Just a straight up question. Who has more talent on their roster? Orlando or Detroit? Orlando. I said this before the season. We watched them last year. I think they played in the playoffs series. I forget, was it Boston or somebody? And we were like,
Starting point is 00:37:42 man, they're a year away. Orlando was the biggest disappointment in league this year. They were the one, if you took every team in the league and said, man, who underachieve? It was Orlando. It's not a talent issue. They've got really good roster. That's why I said, if this coach doesn't last, if I was Billy Donovan, I'm the Bulls and I'm like, I'll take that they're, they are ready to win now. That's a crazy stat on the screen. Most consecutive 25 plus point playoff games before turning 23. So you got to be a young pump. Michael Jordan, not on the list. It's Bencaro.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Kobe and Jabbar at number one and LeBron right behind him. Colin, I haven't looked at the odds. I'm not betting it. I do think Detroit bounces back in game two. But this series, after watching Game 1, you don't want to overreact. I think Orlando can win this series. And I will point out, the last 60-win team to lose their playoff home opener was that 2007 Mavericks team with Dirk that lost the series to the Baron Davis Warriors.
Starting point is 00:38:42 Remember when Baron Davis had that nasty dunk? I mean, Detroit, they're legitimately in trouble. Who's their second best score? Well, that's been the knock all year on Detroit is half-court offense. And again, what happens in the playoffs? You're playing the same limited Pistons offense, game after game after game. You know, this is why stars who took over the game, a star for Orlando, is that when you face a team over and over and over,
Starting point is 00:39:11 and you can focus on one team, that's all they've been doing before this, series started. Focus on the pistons. It's a limited half-court offense. They don't have a dependable second score. It looked like Orlando's strategy is like, Cade, you're going to get 35. That's fine. We're not going to let Tobias Harris, Jenkins, and these other guys go off. Duncan Robbins is not going to hit five threes. And if that doesn't happen, I don't know where Detroit gets points. Their shot distribution, you want to laugh? Go look at who's taking shots for them. Their G-leager Jenkins was like their third most shot attempts, the guy coming off the bench. I that's a scary game one for Detroit.
Starting point is 00:39:46 I'll just say that. J-Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. Just to show you the value, you know, we always talk. Outside a quarterback, who's worth a point in the NFL? Maybe Justin Jefferson.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Maybe Kristen McCaffrey. The Niners since 2022, when Trent Williams plays are 40 and 15, he's a left tackle. They're three in ten when he doesn't. Brock Purdy's passer rating is 15 points better when Trent Williams plays. They score eight points more a game. So if you take out quarterback and skill people, the most valuable player in the national football league is Trent Williams. That is insane.
Starting point is 00:40:36 They're like a different offense. Playing not playing. Coming up next, I kind of feel. bad for Ant. The Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app.
Starting point is 00:41:01 The NFL draft is where it all starts. This is crazy. I can't believe it. From the picks to the breakdowns, weird covering all of it. Because in the NFL, I put myself in a position to be here. One pick can change everything. It's draft night long. Join Jenny Taft. Jake Lacey.
Starting point is 00:41:18 Lavaar Earrington and former Falcons GM, Terry Bonham, April 23rd at 5 p.m. Pacific. And it's brought to you by Express Bros. and Webo. It's so I'm doing for, man. On Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, name? Huge news.
Starting point is 00:41:35 We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But, this is a trend. This one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:41:49 So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this.
Starting point is 00:42:10 We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas. and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:42:30 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis. And I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs. And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Jenchen won. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open.
Starting point is 00:43:39 Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts. or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Brace yourself for the big one on Sunday. When the NASCAR Cup series takes on the biggest, fastest, meanest track on the circuit, Talladega. Pre-race coverage begins at 1.30 Eastern with the green flag dropping at three only on Fox.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Well, the NBA has always been a sport where cool matters. Big markets, more national television games. you know, if you look at the greatest players in NBA history are the most discussed, Michael Jordan, Big Market Chicago, Magic L.A, Shaq L.A., Kobe L.A., you know, the late Jerry West, Wilt, L.A. You know, I mean, Jalen Brunson gets more publicity than Ant in Minnesota. Aunt lost the opener. I didn't think Aunt looks like he doesn't quite have the juice, did not shoot the ball particularly well from three, usually does. but people always say like market size doesn't matter,
Starting point is 00:45:15 but not a lot of free agents, you know, really want to play in a winter league in Minneapolis. I'm sorry. I mean, KG and Kevin Love were bigger stars when they left. One went to Cleveland with LeBron and one went to the Celtics. And I don't know,
Starting point is 00:45:32 I just, you can be a star in Minnesota, but the top selling jerseys in the NBA this year went to a guy from San Francisco, L.A. and New York. You get more games on TV. I don't know. I just look at him right now and it just doesn't quite feel like he feels underappreciated. It's like Shohei Otani.
Starting point is 00:45:52 With the Angels, he was a great Major League baseball player. 50 minutes up to freeway to the Dodgers. He's an international superstar. Where you play matters. The publicity you get, the merch you get, the marketing you get. Jalen Brunson and Austin Reeves get talked about more than Ant. Now, in the playoffs, you're going to be. to get a lot of attention. But the NBA, a majority of the season, 75, 80% is October and
Starting point is 00:46:17 until the playoffs start in April. So I'm just watching him, smaller markets are fine. And Oklahoma City may dominate forever. And you could say, well, what about San Antonio? Wemby is such a outlier physically. He's like, you know, the players call him an alien. He's going to get publicity everywhere. But go look at the history of the NBA. Michael Jordan, Magic Bird, started with Dr. J. for me. go look at a lot of your great players big market houston a keem clyde dregsler market size does matter it it matters for merch publicity attracting free agents it matters you know austin reeves gets more pub than aunt and aunt had a great year i mean almost average 30 a game it was his most
Starting point is 00:47:03 efficient season i mean he's really he is really if you put in in l a san francisco or new york Do you know how big of a star he would be? We basically, that game against Denver's like, oh, how'd that do this year? For a majority of people watching the NBA. Sorry, most NBA fans are casuals. You can't live off the diehards who have the NBA pass, right? And by the way, I saw a story last week.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Nike stock is down because players aren't buying like NBA stars shoes. A lot of that is because, the stars. SGA's in Oklahoma City and ants in Minnesota. Like if you put Ant in New York, what do you think would go with his jersey sales? He's at six now. If he's in New York,
Starting point is 00:47:52 he's the number one selling jersey in the league. It's going to be Stefan Ant. It just did. So much of baseball success in the last three years, they've got their stars in the right cities. Aaron Judge Yankees. Otani, Dodgers. The Cubs are good.
Starting point is 00:48:10 Bryce Harper, Philadelphia. Take the NFL out of it. For every other sport, where the stars play matter. I was watching the Jerry West Dock this weekend. And it's fascinating doc about the late great, the logo. And I'm looking at this old archival footage. And Randy Newman had that song, I Love L.A. When the Lakers ran this league, do you think it would have felt the same if it was in Minnesota or Utah?
Starting point is 00:48:37 It doesn't. It doesn't feel the same. market size still matters for merch and the NBA is different. Aesthetic and cool matters in basketball. Yes. I mean, the T-Wolves have been the back-to-back Western Conference Finals. Ant is arguably the most explosive player in the league. His jersey sales are six.
Starting point is 00:49:05 You think of the Knicks or the Lakers have been the back-to-back conference finals with Ant? He'd be a runaway highest jersey sales by far in the NBA. Well, SGA won the MVP and the title, and he's below Anthony Edwards. His game's boring. I totally agree. Actually, Ant is interesting. You know, Chris Finch, obviously our guy comes on the show. We love the banter.
Starting point is 00:49:28 And I had this take Thursday. If Minnesota doesn't win tonight, they're under the gun, Colin. I might bet them tonight. They're not winning this. Denver's winning this series. Well, here's the problem. You go to the conference finals twice. you backslide and lose in the first round.
Starting point is 00:49:40 It's pretty clear you've hit your ceiling with Gobert and Randall. Did you notice that Randall is just having a brutal season? It's just not happening second half. Well, the problem for Ann, he just didn't have his juice. I don't think Minnesota had much juice in that game because they don't have a dependable number two score. And when Murray's playing the way he is for Denver, he was great. He went 16 for 16 from the line.
Starting point is 00:50:02 When Gordon's healthy, they can win the championship. And then Yokic, who did not play particularly well, some of that's Gobert. but to me, I just think that Denver, it's more of an offensive league than ever. They just have three different guys they can lean on. And I feel like it's aunt. And aunt feels that it's aunt. And if he's not spectacular and he wasn't, he didn't shoot the three well, they're not going to win. Well, they want Yonis bad.
Starting point is 00:50:26 And he's also got a knee injury. Yeah, he's not healthy. But if you get Yonis, you're giving up everything. I don't know what the solution is. I'll remind people again, when Kevin Garnett went to the conference finals in Minnesota, He was like, I'm a Minnesota guy forever. They didn't win another playoff series with KG. They had to trade him to Boston when it was clear.
Starting point is 00:50:43 They just weren't doing anything. I don't know what's going to happen with Ant's Future. The spurs have passed them. The Thunder have passed them. Oh, there's no question. It's a cyclical league. From this point forward, Celtics Thunder Nuggets, Spurs feel different. Hey, guys, it's us.
Starting point is 00:51:04 The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:51:14 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
