Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:07 I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Starting point is 00:01:32 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast. From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:01:47 Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Heard. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Tommy John's got a site-wide sale. Tommyjohn.com code heard 20% off. They don't do that very much. They almost never do it. I'm not sure they've ever done it before with us.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Tommyjohn.com code heard 20% off their loungeware is great. Wife loves her stuff. I love their stuff. I'm wearing one of their t-shirts right now. You see it? You're right there. That's Tommy John right there. By the way, one of the upset,
Starting point is 00:02:51 there's two, one or two upsets every weekend. And every time I say, I think there's going to be an upset people. You're crazy. We're going to have two upsets in the NFL this weekend minimum. Keep your eye on Detroit over Green Bay. Detroit dominated Chicago for 85% of it and lost. Detroit looked really good for three quarters. And Green Bay beat Minnesota, but I don't think Minnesota's defense, I don't think it's very good.
Starting point is 00:03:13 They don't have a pass rush right now. Greg Jennings called the Packer game last week. He's calling the Packer Lion game this week. So he's all over Green Bay, and he's joining us via the Coward Global Satellite Network. So let's start with this. Was the Packer, Minnesota game more Green Bay or the fact that you live in Minnesota? I don't think their defense looks nearly as athletic as it did the last two years. What did you take away?
Starting point is 00:03:38 Well, it was a culmination of both. I'll start with Green Bay. Green Bay came out and they executed. We all talked about going into this season, what they didn't have, which was the receiver position in depth at that position. And they overcame it by moving Devante Adams around and taking advantage of his one-on-one matchups against a really, young secondary. And then you alluded to the Vikings not having a pass rush, the Neil Hunter being out that obviously
Starting point is 00:04:05 hurts a defense like that that relies heavily on the pass rush so they don't have to cover as long against a quarterback that extends plays and can make so much happen when it comes to getting outside of the pocket. But the Vikings, again, I think they'll be fine. I think this was just a low week one, a lot of injuries, a lot of young guys, a lot of
Starting point is 00:04:27 newness there. But the Packers just played well offensively. They didn't, however, play good defensively, which is something that we'll watch, have to really watch closely coming up this week. By the way, so Trent Delfour went on a podcast and he said, listen, these general managers are puppet masters. They're drafting to get in, you know, not just to build a roster, but, you know, he believes that Aaron Rogers slight decline, had a lot of control. Maybe we'll just bring somebody him pull a little heat on you and he said this is what general managers do they put heat on their stars so they can keep controlling stuff do you think there's some truth to that with the jordan love draft pick moving up to get a kid from utah state no i don't think there's any truth to that i think
Starting point is 00:05:14 that what they saw was everything that we all saw we we saw erin rogers not performing up performing to the level and the standard that we've seen in the past and he admitted to that even talking to him leading into that first week, he admitted to him not playing to the level of expectation for himself, let alone everyone else. And he has set that bar. But when you talk about the Packers drafting Jordan Love, look, they wanted to ensure that they had a guy that they thought they could nurture while they still have Aaron Rogers playing at the level that he's playing at. Now, Anne Rogers controls all of this. He can extend that time. If he continues to play like this, oh, that time will be extended for sure.
Starting point is 00:06:01 And I think with the level-headed that he's, the level-headedness that he's coming into this season with and what we saw Sunday, yeah, he doesn't need any external motivators. Although he uses him a lot, as we know, Colin, you're one of his external motivators. Anything that you say, anything that you say it might prompt an explosion of performance. But Aaron Rogers didn't need Jordan Love to come in and give him that motivating factor. Again, and I will say this, all the players see it every single year. A player gets drafted at their position. And do they need the motivation? No, but do they recognize it?
Starting point is 00:06:40 Yes. So it does change the way you approach a season or stepping onto the field. So it might not have been the strategy, but it's a win-win for the Packers. By the way, you said that you and Aaron talk. Sometimes Aaron won't talk to me, but you, you know, you've been critical of him. He's not always happy with Greg Jennings. He talked to you. Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:07:03 And to be honest, it was a great conversation. We had a great production call alluded to a lot of the times that we had together as playing counterparts. And that was something that he went back to kind of review to see what he did so well when we were in the fold together in Green Bay, and he had all those great receivers and those assets and just looking at his technique and what he needs to bring from then to now
Starting point is 00:07:33 that he has not. And it showed up on Sunday. Everything that he said, he's very calculated, everything that he says he's going to do and that he's looking to improve. We saw as a crew on Sunday. And so I'm interested to see how it continues to evolve. throughout the course of this year.
Starting point is 00:07:53 I just like you got the Packer game again this week. So I just like that. I like to see my friend Greg Jennings getting along with Aaron Rogers. I like, he didn't have to talk to me. A lot of people don't like me. You're likable. I'm not that likable.
Starting point is 00:08:05 So if they don't talk to you, it bothers me. Okay? All right. So I think tonight's actually fascinating. Burrell Baker, Cleveland, Cincinnati. I think there's an OBJ story out there. There's two now sources saying they're looking to move him. I don't blame anybody for that.
Starting point is 00:08:22 I never, ever thought OBJ said he wanted to go to Cleveland. He had a place in New York. He had a place in Hollywood. I talked to him there once. He vacationed in Paris. He never said Cleveland. But that's where he got shipped. I do wonder, though, young quarterback and a star receiver.
Starting point is 00:08:41 Could I make the argument that OBJ and Baker, it's not, we're 17 games into this thing. It doesn't work. It's not, it's not, can't be this hard. Is that a fair argument? It is a fair argument. However, I would put that argument on hold for another three, three games or so. And here is why I want to see what they do in this game and moving forward and really doing and kind of playing off what they do well as an offense.
Starting point is 00:09:12 If you look at the Cleveland Browns, what do they do well? They run the football. And when I saw them play. on Sunday and I looked at the game and I reviewed it, if they put a lot of action off of their play action, off of their run game, that's where Baker had some of his greater success. Where he did not have success was when he was under center or just in straight dropback. And when you're playing against a very exotic defense like the Baltimore Ravens who can show you so many looks, this is where Baker has to improve.
Starting point is 00:09:49 You have an empty stadium. We're going to see this all year, depending on how long fans are not allowed into these arenas. You have to play with your cadence. And if Baker Mayfield doesn't control the pace or control the tempo of the defense with simply setting them off a little beat with his cadence so that he can get a beat on what defenses are going to do
Starting point is 00:10:15 the looks that they're trying to get to, what they're disguising, then he's failing his teammates. He has the control to do that with his cadence, no crowd noise, so that he can get a jump. I think he's struggling to identify coverages, especially when they're being disguised. His first interception was one where if he had used his cadence, he would have saw Callais Campbell's going to drop out, and he might have checked out. He might not have gone to his left side receiver and thrown that pick that Callias Campbell got his hands on.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Greg Jennings joining us 10 years in the NFL, Super Bowl, a couple of Pro Bowls. So, you know, listen, we know this to be true. The quarterback is the only position where, you know, he didn't have to compete for his job usually. Even a great running back, you draft one every year, right? So criticizing quarterbacks is different. Like, it just doesn't happen a lot, especially, you know, if you're Tom Brady. Belichick doesn't criticize players publicly. That's just not his thing.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Ariens is very loose. Let her rip Bruce. Were you surprised he went there criticizing Brady week one? To be honest, I was. I was truly surprised. But again, kudos to Bruce Ariens for calling a spade a spade and calling out bag play. Tom Brady was not what he thought he would be. And what he thought he would be was a guy.
Starting point is 00:11:42 that would not turn the ball over. And you fall into the category of what the, what was the Achilles Hill of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers right away with the player who you bring in thinking, this is the last thing I'm going to have to concern myself with is turnovers at the quarterback position. And Tom Brady comes in and he throws two interceptions week one. That's a problem. It needs to be addressed. And I'm glad and proud of Bruce Ariens for.
Starting point is 00:12:12 doing so because it sends a message to not only everyone around the National Football League, but specifically to the guys in that locker room that I don't care who you are, there's a standard level of play. And we got rid of James because of this. Tom Brady, you're no exception. So you look at week one and obviously teams that have talent that lost, Philadelphia, Dallas are talented teams. So go back to your career. I really do think for Cleveland tonight and for Dallas this week on Sunday. It's a really important game. Now, go back to your career.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Was there ever a game week two after a rough start that you literally felt as a player, we cannot be 0.2. This is intense. This is like a college football Saturday. Did you ever feel that by week two? Not right off top, but off top of mind.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I can't think of a season where I felt that week two. However, you feel that throughout the course of the season, there are weeks from week to week that you know, okay, we can't drop this one. This one we got to have. And you alluded to it. This is a game that the Cleveland Browns have to have when you're facing a team that you should be. Yes. That on paper, yes, you are better than. But it needs to translate to the field. The talent needs to step up. I don't want to hear about all the talent that we have and who we can't get the ball to. Just make it work. If you turn around and hand the ball off to Nick Chubb and the guys in that backfield all afternoon, and it works, do that to get the win and move on and progress from there. Good stuff. Greg Jennings.
Starting point is 00:14:03 So you're calling games now. Do you like that calling game stuff? I do. You get more in tune to what guys are doing. on how they're thinking from week to week. The adjustments that needs to be made is like you're watching film. I'm back in that player mode. Yeah, that's good.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Greg Jennings, ladies and gentlemen, Lions Packers Sunday on Fox, I think I may call an upset. I think Detroit's got a real shot. They actually played really well for 85% of that game. I think this game's going to be great. This is going to be one of those games. That's always been Detroit. I know.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I know, isn't it? Does anybody blow games like Detroit? Like nobody. But I think this has upset written all. over it, Greg Jennings. Good seeing you, bud. Likewise. Yeah. Imagine an Olympics where doping
Starting point is 00:14:48 is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within
Starting point is 00:15:04 probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at a podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here. unpack what went down and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:16:46 To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack, so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now, so. Then you're finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:17:43 and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:17:59 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:18:32 Then Luggins came back from 2-3-1 series deficits this postseason. get to the Western Conference Finals. They have a big challenge next, facing the top-seated Lakers, but head coach Mike Malone thinks his team is ready for it. We have a special group. We still have a lot of work to do.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Western Conference Finals. We know we're playing a very talented and well-rested Laker team, but I do know this. Our guys are up for that challenge. The sky is the limit for this team. We're not afraid of anybody, and I think we've proven that time and time again.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I don't have a problem with this level of confidence. They did come back from two, three, one deficits. Obviously, they're about to face LeBron James and the Lakers, but why shouldn't they be confident in what they've been able to do? They just took down the clippers. Nobody thinks you're going to win. That's the best place to be. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Very rarely do you get to a conference finals and you're playing house money. Miami, to a large degree, is based on Jimmy Butler and a bunch of kids. They're playing. We've been waiting for the Boston, Danny Aange, Brad Stevens thing to pop. Like, the pressure's on Boston. The pressures on the Lakers in the situation. I'm going to lean towards the Lakers in this series, but there's no reason why Jamal Murray and Yokic shouldn't come into this game
Starting point is 00:19:43 with full confidence the way that they've been playing. Nobody gave them a chance in that Clippers series. I'll take Lakers. I'll take Boston and seven Lakers in six. Well, I think it's going to be heat in seven. But the one thing that's in the Lakers' favor, though, other than obviously being the Lakers, but they do have a six games.
Starting point is 00:20:02 They're going to have six games before they play the Nuggets. and the Nuggets have had to go through huge emotional and physical swings in these two seven-game series. Nuggets just came off their biggest win in 15 years. Yeah. Could be a little letdown, just a tad. But honestly, I don't know what to expect anymore. The bubble has been so not unpredictable. Yeah, I guess like unpredictable.
Starting point is 00:20:24 It's really been some interesting factors that have played a role in the bubble. And the emotional part and mental part of the bubble, which I anticipated would be an issue for some teams, has been more of an issue for the older teams. younger teams. Yeah, in fact, I had a source last night tell me, close to the Lakers, that the Lakers struggled with the bubble in the first two weeks. They were just not into it, and the coaches were worried they'd lost players. And then LeBron A.D. cinched it all up, and the Laker coaches are like, feel great now. But they, the Clippers really never felt comfortable in the bubble. Miami had, the young teams have. Dallas did. Miami did. But the Lakers
Starting point is 00:21:01 were concerned in the first two weeks of the bubble. LeBron and A.D. and these veterans, veteran guys. All these guys married Kit. They didn't like it. Well, and it's a complete environment change that they've never been in before. You don't have fans. There was a lot of factors in this. But I will say, though, I've kind of been waiting until we saw how this all played out.
Starting point is 00:21:23 There's no way you have an asterisk on this season. Like, obviously, we're going to remember this particular season for what it's been in the bubble. But whoever wins this championship will have earned it. And whatever the factors were of not having fans or not having travels. and the top seed's not having that normal advantage that they do. It doesn't matter. Like, it's all evened out. And whoever wins us deserves it and is certainly a champion.
Starting point is 00:21:44 So expectations were high for Tom Brady and the Bucks before the season started, but they fell short in the loss of the Saints. And even though Brady had an off game, people around the league are not buying into that he's washed up. Now, Twitter was a little different. Everyone was ready to say that Brady was done. But one rival NFC scout doesn't think the Tampa would, didn't think that Tampa would live up to the hype in the first game,
Starting point is 00:22:04 saying there were unrealistic expectations for the, them. The offense needs a little more time. And then NFL assistant said that Brady was off on a few throws, but still has the arm strength and will be tough to stop. And one, AFC exact, doesn't seem to be worried at all, saying that it was just week one. I think Tom's arm strength is not the issue. I think he had a bad throw. But in fact, he had a throw one time because there's no crowd that the mic picked up, the crowd, the sideline mic picked up. And you could hear it like, and I was like,
Starting point is 00:22:32 oh, Tom's arm's fine. Because there's no crowd now. So you can hear, you're hearing. You're hearing stuff you wouldn't normally hear, I think his arm's fine. I just think their offensive line is not as good as Tom had hoped. I don't think they're quite good yet. And even though it's Tom Brady and we know that they've been working together for a while, this is a new team. He's never played with them before. You have to think about the chemistry that he's had with, even if you didn't think that they were elite receivers, the chemistry he's had with his receivers, being in the same system, being in the same building. You can't discount all the things that have changed, even if it is Tom Brady.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Now, because it's Tom Brady, we're going to have higher expectations of him, but that's the deal when you switch teams at the end of your career and go to a team that has all these pieces. But overall, I didn't think it was, I am not ever going to be in the bandwagon again unless it's just a complete fall off
Starting point is 00:23:20 that Tom Brady has washed. Let's just wait, let's give it a couple weeks and see how this goes. What was more concerning to me was the mistakes because those are things that did not happen in New England that were out of Brady's control. Finally, the full list of 2020, the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame
Starting point is 00:23:34 nominees were announced yesterday of the 130 modern era nominees in this class. 14 are in their first year of eligibility. Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, and Charles Woodson headline that group of first-time nominees. You also have Wes Welker, Roddy White, Heath Miller, Charles Tillman, Drod Mayo, Justin Tuck, Jared Allen, obviously Logan Mankins. And the list will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November, 15 finalists in January. and the class of 2021 will be revealed during the NFL honors the night before the Super Bowl, as it always is.
Starting point is 00:24:09 But I think I feel safe saying Peyton Manning is going to be. Peyton and Charles Woods in her first ballot. Calvin Johnson probably takes a while. I don't know if it will take a while as relative, right? Like the first ballot thing obviously is very prestigious. But once you're not in the first ballot, I don't know that it really matters. Like no one ever describes anyone who's in the Hall of Fame
Starting point is 00:24:31 by the year that they get into the Hall of Fame. Well, Calvin Johnson doesn't have a moment. There's not a play. To me, first ballot Hall of Famer is I hear your name and I think of stuff. Yes. And think of you in a tier that is a little bit separate of everyone else's play that position. Calvin Johnson's talent is first ballot. You know who was the first ballot hall of favor?
Starting point is 00:24:52 Yeah. Jason was? No, he was. Yeah, but again, he had moments. He had sacks. He had moments. He was on teams. And records.
Starting point is 00:25:00 And, you know. Calvin's, you know, a lot of records. not a lot of... I mean, but Calvin was great talent. Unbelievably dominant during his prime. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:09 And he also retired early. Yes. So his numbers are huge. That's a lion's thing. Yeah. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.
Starting point is 00:25:17 The Heard Lye News. Jet CEO Christopher Johnson gave the dreaded seal of approval to Jet's head coach Adam Gase. That's never a good thing. Adam Gase has three things working against him. He's not winning enough. Nobody likes him. And let's be honest, he's not a communicator. Like he doesn't, it's not, he doesn't have allies in the building. To me, I look at,
Starting point is 00:25:54 it's kind of early, like week two, I think there's two tiers sort of of hot seat, coach on the hot seat. Generally, everybody starts writing these columns by week six. The, the First, it's getting a little warm. Feels like Doug Marone and Matt Patricia. It's getting a little warm, fellas. You need to post a win here in the next couple of weeks. Little warm. And then there's two guys.
Starting point is 00:26:18 Dan Quinn and Adam Gase, the clock is ticking. Like, if you don't win this week, there are people that will bail on you. Dan Quinn saved his job last year. Quinn has a likeability factor in Atlanta. Gase doesn't. He's just not great. And you can lose in this league. I think what hurts Adam Gase. And I think this is a real thing. Adam Gase has considered very offensive-minded, very good with quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Ryan Tanniel had his best year when he left him. That's a problem. Matt Ryan's never been the same since Kyle Shanahan left. RG3, rookie of the year with Kyle Shanahan. Matt Schaub made a pro bowl. Garoppolo, 25 and 5 or something. Tannahill was better last year without Gase. You can't do that.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Like certain coaches, Pete Carroll's about defense. If Pete's defense stinks, we don't think of him as an offensive genius. Matt Nagy in Chicago. That's why he's got to get a quarterback. Nobody thinks Matt Nagy in defense. He's got to have a good offense. Like, Gase is unlikable, doesn't deal with stars not winning. but when Ryan Tannahill had his best year without him,
Starting point is 00:27:39 Sam Darnold appears to not be getting better. Now, some of that is this weekend. They've got no running backs, no receivers left, their entire receiving course on the IR and they're rebuilding their own line. But Darnold showed flashes of brilliance. He's got to get better. That's what Shanahan does. That's what Matt Nagy's got a winning record with Mitch Trubesky.
Starting point is 00:28:02 Winning record. Like we, Trabiski could go to a defensive coach. In fact, he was initially with the defensive coach. And then Matt Nagy got Mitch Trabesky got better. Limited quarterback got better. When Matt, when Ryan Tannihill had his best year post Adam Gase, I run the Jets, I'm like, Darnold's still making the same mistakes. Tanniel's better without you.
Starting point is 00:28:23 And you're the quarterback guy. Like, every coach has a brand, Belichick's defense, Pete Carroll defense, Andy Reed's offense, everybody with Andy Reid. Donovan McNabb, Alex Smith, Michael Vic, rejuvenated his crew. You got a brand as a coach. Adam, Tannails better without you. Darnold, his hit his ceiling. To me, this is, they lose ugly again this weekend, and they probably will to San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I think he has to either win or look good in week three, or they've made a decision. Joe Douglas didn't hire him. It wasn't his call, and you lose your GM. GM's going to last longer than G. Donald and the GM are not getting fired. There's one guy left. Coming up next, Burrow against Baker, tonight, and Burrow against Baker, the game.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast. Superhuman documented it all,
Starting point is 00:29:34 embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:29:52 I don't care where you're saying. Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Starting point is 00:31:03 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at It podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
Starting point is 00:31:30 so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years
Starting point is 00:31:44 for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness, this month. Starting point is 00:32:10 the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:32:37 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. Tonight on Thursday night football, it's a showdown between the last two number one. picks as Joe Burrow and the Bengals take on Baker, Mayfield, and the Browns exclusively on NFL network.
Starting point is 00:33:05 Both number one picks. Both now playing Ohio. Both are former Heisman winners. Both start with B. Burrow and Baker. It's a battle. Burrow Baker Battle. Who's best?
Starting point is 00:33:21 Brown's Bengel. We're nerd. Burroughs. All right, Joie, here we do it. Burrow versus Baker. This will be interesting. All right. Who makes the playoffs first?
Starting point is 00:33:29 Baker or Burrow. Baker will make the playoffs first. We now have seven playoff teams, no longer six in each conference, meaning eight and eight probably get somebody in. I do think there's a chance Baltimore, Pittsburgh,
Starting point is 00:33:44 and Cleveland all from the same division get in. I pick the Browns to make the playoffs. Jarvis Landry's a little beat up. David and Joko is hurt. That doesn't help their offense, but I think they even up their record. And I do think if you look at their schedule, it's like the fourth easiest in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:34:01 They should win nine games this year in Cleveland. Who wins more games this season, Baker or Burrow? Baker. This team's built to win. So if you don't win, Baker's done. I mean, you have to win games here. This is because once you pay Baker, you can't afford Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt and OBJ and David Injoku and Austin Hooper.
Starting point is 00:34:21 You can't afford all these guys. So the reality is if you can't win nine and you have to pay Baker, this is the best offensive personnel he'll probably ever have. And I think, so I think Baker's going to win more games this year. He has to. Who wins the AFC North first? Joe Burrow, because I think Joe Burrell is going to play for 15 years, and he'll win eventually. By the way, Andy Dalton won a division.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Cincinnati may not be great, but they're not chaotic. They're not Cleveland. Mike Brown's on the team forever. And they, by the way, they had Marvin Lewis coach forever. So it's not like Cincinnati may be bad, but I don't look at them like I do like Cleveland or Washington where there's just chaos. They're cheap. Sometimes they don't have, you know, they're not as well run as like the Ravens or the Steelers. But they've been good.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Annie Dalton made three Pro Bowl. So Burrow will win this division first. Who makes a Pro Bowl first, Baker or Burrow? Joe Burrow. I think there's potential there. I said, I've always said I feel he's Tony Romo. Good enough to make a Pro Bowl. may never be the best quarterback in his division.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Maybe we'll be. But I don't think Baker's a pro-bowl quarterback. I think Burroughs got the requisite size. I think he's got the good enough arm, good enough. I think he's really athletic. I think he's got the right temperament. He doesn't let crap bother him. I think he's not into commercials.
Starting point is 00:35:42 He's more into winning games. So I think he's a much more focused athlete. I think Burrow will probably end his career, potentially with a pro bowl or two. I said again, I thought he was going to be Tony Romo. Tony Romo, I met a pro bowl or two. who will have the higher passer rating this season, Baker or Burrow? Baker better have the higher passer rating this season.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Now, Baker did have a very good year one. 93 was his passer rating. 93 or 94 was close in his rookie year. So Baker has shown, now, his accuracy is dipped. Is he getting further away from Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma? The further it gets away, the worse his mechanics get. I think that's an argument to be made. But I think higher passer rating this year, I don't think,
Starting point is 00:36:24 Joe Burrell is going to get great protection from his offensive line, which, of course, erode your pass-er rating eventually. He has the injury now. Who has more touchdowns in their career? Who throws more touchdowns in their career, Baker or Burrow? Burrow. Yeah. If you think Burroughs, you know, I said before, I think Burrow is Tony Romo.
Starting point is 00:36:40 I think Baker is Case Keenham. Romo's going to throw more than Case Keenham. I think if Baker doesn't work in Cleveland, he's a backup. I think Burroughs going to be given five years minimum in Cincinnati. And I actually do think if he can overcome the first. two years of this organization's inefficiency. He's going to have a nice career. He's going to have a Tony Romo career. Who lasts longer with their current team, Baker or Burrow? Burrow. If Baker does not, if the Browns choose not to pick up Baker Mayfield's fifth year option, he'll become a free agent
Starting point is 00:37:13 in 2022. And I, and at this pace, if it was, this decision was going to be made today, you wouldn't pick it up. Because if you're going to pick it up, you're going to have to pay him a lot of money. We see what the contracts now are for quarterbacks. Right now, he's a $20 million quarterback. He's not a $35 million quarterback, so you wouldn't pick up the option. Who wins tonight, Baker or Burrow? Baker does Fox bet in Cleveland, has the Browns minus six. I think it's my favorite bet. My favorite bet this year has been Rams against Dallas, I thought was a good bet. I think this is my first or second best bet. I like Cleveland tonight. A lot of people like the under think
Starting point is 00:37:51 it's going to be ugly. I don't. I think it's going to be ugly. I don't. I think it. There's going to be some points. How about 2820? 2820. How about 30-20 Browns? 30-20 Browns. Browns win big. I hope for Baker's sake and for your wallet that you're right.
Starting point is 00:38:09 By the way, there was a power outage last week in Ohio because it's funny when Baker struggled and the Brown struggle. Not a single tough guy tweet from the fanboys. It's like nobody's phone worked. It was a power and the televisions went down. Ohio's so pretty. Watch tonight. Baker's going to beat a team that he should beat by 20 and oh, just
Starting point is 00:38:27 Colin, what about? Isn't it funny how that happens? Every time. Every I'm, because they're going to win 30, 20, Browns are going to roll. I may go on Instagram live for an hour after this game tonight. I'll do a Nick right after

Starting point is 00:40:16 Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild. I mean, it was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying.
