You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Kind of wrapping up the NFL season right now with Greg Kossel, who joins us every Thursday. And I think tomorrow and the next day, we'll have some football stuff because Derek Carme signed with somebody. But let's go back and look now, look back kind of a bow on the NFL season.

So let's start. We'll go over the Super Bowl here. Obviously Jalen Hertz was terrific, but you 43 years watching film, what jumped out on film with Jalen Hertz? You know, I think the one thing, and we've seen it, a good part of this season, is Jalen Hertz ball placement. I think that was an area in which he significantly, significantly improved. Because I think before this season, we know Jalen Hertz is a really good athlete. We know he's going to make plays with his legs. We know this is a really well-schemed passing game that really works effectively off their run game

and how they cause conflict for defenses. but he made some really precise ball placement throws, Colin, that were really, really special throws. And I think, look, they came into this game clearly with the idea that this was a Jalen Hertz game. Yeah. They ran 44 plays in the first half. 22 were called passes. Ten were designed Jalen Hertz runs, not scrambles, design, design runs.

So 32 of their 44 first half plays and 44, it's a big number of plays in one half were all Jalen Hertz. So this was a Jalen Hertz game, not an Eagles run game in terms of their backs. Yeah, and let's talk about that. I had said going into the Super Bowl that I thought Kansas City's defense, it was the first time in four months that Joe Burrow had a bad weekend, and I thought it was better than people gave it credit for. It was young on the back end and was tested and burned,

but obviously the run game was not as successful for Philadelphia. So why? What was Kansas City doing defensively that jumped out on film? Well, you know, it's funny. The Eagles didn't necessarily try to run it the way we think. And one thing to keep in mind, Colin, is this Eagles team for much of this season was a past first team in the first half of games. They ran in the second half when they had leads. And that's, they were a team that had big leads at halftime for a large part of this season. So they didn't come out necessarily and run the ball. But I thought that the chiefs, I thought Spagnolo did a lot in terms of pressure and not always versus pass. A lot of times there was pressure with, you know, shooting run gaps, using the slot corner to get him involved in the run game.

They slanted at times. You know, they did a number of things to try to sort of be proactive in defending the run. but, you know, they struggled, obviously, defending the pass. Hertz was 17 for 22 in the first half, and they struggled with his run game, because I believe he was 10 for 52 on those design runs. So, you know, for all the things that Steve Spagnola did, and he did a lot. I mean, they were not sitting back by any means. They were aggressive, they were proactive, but they were struggling to stop the Eagles offense.

You know, I picked Kansas City to win, and I said I thought Philadelphia's defense built up lot of stats against bad quarterbacks, huge leads, mediocre sea level quarterbacks having to throw. They pin their ears back. And I didn't think that would be the case. Mahomes is a totally different level than, you know, they played Daniel Jones, three of the last starts there. I mean, it just, it was a steady diet of they didn't have a, I think since week five, they

didn't face a Pro Bowl quarterback. So to some degree, Kansas City's second half success was no freebies. No turnovers. Like they saw a lot of those, right? Yeah, this was a fascinating game, though, because this was not a Mahomes game in the way we think of Mahomes. About 50% of their offensive plays were called runs. Mahomes did not throw for a lot of yards.

They came out in the second half, and they essentially played very balanced football. They ran the ball. They used motion. It was a clinic in the use of motion. Yeah. There were a lot of really schemed pass plays. they were not Mahomes' plays in that sense where he ran around and made plays.

Now, he made a few obviously, but I thought he played incredibly efficiently, and that's also the sign of a very mature quarterback, but this was not a Mahomes game in that sense. You know, we really didn't see those special plays. And I thought that Andy Reid, the patience and the methodical approach he took in the second half, I thought was, you know, it played out beautifully. You know, you don't know that that will play out that way, but they had great success running the ball. They were incredibly multiple with their run game concepts. And, you know, as I said, I mean, Mahomes made a few plays.

Obviously, the 26-yard run on the final field goal drive, which we're looking at right now. We also had a 14-yard run earlier in the second half. But, you know, he only threw 27 balls. This was not one of those 29-for-43, 350-yard games with four touchdowns. and much of the past game was really, really well-schemed. I thought the Chiefs, they average 6.1 yards of carry. So we talked so much about the sophistication and success of Phillies' run game. And I thought, frankly, I thought Kansas City's run game,

maybe it was their offensive line, which was the unit. You know, sometimes I get this stuff right. I said the unit in this game that was undervalued was the Chief's O line. Was the run game because of that, because of schemes? or because of Pacheco's talent? I mean, they did run the ball effectively. Very effectively, and it's a combination of all of it. I thought the Eagles at times struggled with their run fits.

I thought the O-line did a really good job. I thought the run game was really multiple. We're not necessarily used to seeing a lot of that from the Chiefs. Because, you know, normally you think of the Chief's offense, and you think of Patrick Mahomes, and you think of Travis Kelsey. You know, and Kelsey was not a big, big factor in the game. I mean, obviously, I think he had six for 81, and he had three or four of those on the first two or three possessions, including the touchdown.

But really in the second half, they came out and they ran the ball. As we discussed, they played a lot with two and three tight ends, and that was an important part of what they did. And that's really how this game played out in the second half. Great patience, a methodical approach. Mahomes being super efficient. Mahomes playing this game the way it needed to be played. Because how you made the point about the quarterbacks to eat. Eagles have faced. The fact is all season long, the Eagles defense was built on sacks and

turnovers. They did not have either one of those in this game. And this game demanded that that the Chiefs not do that because the Eagles were scoring. So in that sense, Mahomes played a really strong game. But in terms of yardage throwing the ball, I mean, I think Mahomes threw for less than 100 in the first half and about 100 yards in the second half. So this was not really, hey, let's have Patrick drop back and throw it all over the yard. But he did what this game demanded, and he was incredibly efficient doing that. So let's go to your big play of the Super Bowl to, you know, a pretty new chief, Cadarius Tony, who will obviously, next year, obviously, Sky Moore is going to be more relevant.

Cadarius Tony will be more relevant. I think they'll probably move off Juju Smith-Schuster. I think they'll draft another receiver. That's my guess. but I think Sky Moore end of the year looked like something. I'll look at Darius Tony is just so Andy Reed. So let's talk about that play. Yeah, let's talk about that play.

This was, and we can go right to it, because this was the touchdown to Tony, where it looked like a total bust, and there was a reason why it happened. So, you know, let's go to that play right now and take a look at it. And, you know, when you see this play, like I said, you see the motion, and I talked about the motion, and like I said, it looked like a bus.

But there was a lot going on here. Obviously, Mahomes is in the gun. This was third down, by the way, and it's in the second half. And then we're going to see Kelsey and Tony on the bottom of the screen to the wide side of the field. Now, it's manned coverage right now. So you have Maddox on Kelsey and you have Slay over Tony. And what you have is a single high safety coverage with Gardner Johnson, the post safety. Now, they love to use motion, motion across the formation.

How many times do we see jet. motion across the formation. And the Eagles had an answer for that. They were going to take Gardner Johnson and then have him match up to Tony when he crossed the formation. They were going to have Slay replace Gardner Johnson as the post safety. So what happens? Tony starts to go across and then he's going to return.

But what happens with Slay? He's anticipating what he's seen on film that he's going across the formation and he loses eye discipline here. So what happens is Tony just return motion. he still Slay's man and beautifully designed play, Colin. I mean, just playing against tendency, playing against type, playing against what the Eagles had seen on film, and then a mistake by Slay and just losing his eye discipline.

But in their mind, Eagles had a plan for that jet motion in the tight red zone, and the Chiefs beat it with a really well-designed play against tendency. Greg Kossel, putting a bow on the NFL season, will obviously bring him in several times for the draft going forward. He always gives me that binder before the draft on guys to keep my eye on. Let's go back one more time to the Super Bowl, the holding call on James Bradbury. Yeah. It was a tough one. You and I disagree on it, not quite vehemently, but we disagree. However, what do you think Chief's wide receiver, Juju Smith-Schuster did? He went and had fun and posted a Valentine's card on social media with Bradbury's headshot. There it is for you.

Saying, I'll hold you when it matters most. Very funny. Shots fired. Okay. AJ Brown of the Eagles, not happy. He fired back. First off, congrats. Y'all deserve it. This is lame. You was on the way out of the league before Mahomes resurrected your career on your one-year deal. TikTok boy. He admitted that he grabbed you. Don't act like you're like that or ever was, but congrats again. I thought both were great.

First of all, I think the line by Juju was funny, and I think TikTok boy is very funny as well. So why can't I like both of those? You can. It was very on brand for Juju, who's a bit of a jokester. Yeah. I don't know. I don't think he's going to be around next year. Well, he's going to be in the league somewhere,

but he's not going to be making like $9 million or whatever. A.J. Brown fired back hard, and you know that had to hit like real on J. Juju because he was, remember he was going to be like, after his first year, I think in Pittsburgh, he had a great, great run. And then nobody was willing to offer him any money. And he had to take like a one-year deal. He had a good Super Bowl.

Good Super Bowl. Yeah, he had like six, seven catches, I think. But I think the TikTok boy thing, like that's real. Like, Juju does everything jokey and pranky with him and social media. When you're a young player, you will be judged if you spend too much time on social media. I said this about Baker. Enough with the commercials. Win games.

Like, you can do them. There's a lot of things in life you can do. But I think Juju came into the league, too much silliness. It turned off a lot of people. And he's not a one receiver. He doesn't separate. He's a two to a three. And he can be very effective.

He was in the Super Bowl. He had that big first year in Pittsburgh and then thought he was amazing and started to go on social. Yeah. No, but I, this is the thing. Social media is a trap. You're not invisible. I tell this to people in the media.

Your bosses are watching your social media posts. Stop arguing with, you know, randos. In the end, Juju Smith-Schuster got a label from executives. The minute he was available, nobody was interested. And that wasn't because he didn't have talent. We saw in the Super Bowl. He had a Super Bowl ring. Yeah, no, no.

And he was a very effective player. You're not invisible. That goes for media people. It goes for NFL players, NBA players. Your bosses, your GMs, they're watching. I think Juju's silliness has hurt his career. There was no market for him. Like none.

Nobody's clamoring to get in bed with a guy who's all over TikTok. Next up, New York Jets. They're in the market for a veteran QB this offseason. We've talked about Derek Carr, Jimmy G. How about this? Aaron Rogers. Well, here's a new name for you. Ryan Tanna Hill.

Ryan Tanna, thrill. The team is reportedly much higher on him than many want to believe, and they could make a run at him if they miss out on Rogers, car, or Jimmy G. Colin? Yeah, they're going to mess out on those guys. This is it. This is like, you remember how when you applied to 50 colleges in high school, you had like your safety school? Yeah. Is Ryan Tanna Hill, the Jets safety school?

Kind of. Expensive, too. That's like your safety school is a Cornell or something expensive. Oh, stop it, Cornell's a safety school. Well, I'm just saying that he's expensive. He wasn't he the top cap hit in a league last year or something? He was like one of the top two or three, I think. This guy was a wide receiver, I believe, at A&M.

Well, that was a long time. He came to be a quarterback, and he did a good job of handing off to Derek Henry. He's fine. He's capable. He ain't getting the Jets over the top. No, but he could, he does not excite anybody in the fans. Well, what are your options? I think he's sort of the Hail Mary for Stafford. I would take Rogers over to Anna Hill.

Okay, let's get out of that space. I would go Justin Fields over. over Tannahill, I would make a trade. I would give up two and a four for fields. I don't know if he's ready, but I would definitely... You wouldn't have to give up a two and a four for fields. I'm not giving up a one. Give up a two.

Okay. If that works for the Bears, I just, Ryan Tannahill doesn't do it for me. Now, he'll have better receivers in New York than he had last year in Tennessee. When they lost A.J. Brown, he was like, who am I throwing to? No, I mean, this isn't going to excite you. But my question is,

for two years, you've got to draft another quarterback. Like if you're San Francisco, you're excited for Brock Purdy versus Tray Lance Lansing. See, the Jets did so well in the last couple of drafts. They needed a left tackle and a quarterback. So if you go pay, if you go pay for Tannahill,

your only absolute need right now is left tackle. To me, you could draft another quarterback this draft. Well, they have to pay Quinn and Williams, the defensive tackle. Okay, but you're not paying very many people. You have an elite corner, you're not paying them. You have two good receivers.

Carl Lawson. Oh, I'd move off that. Well, yeah, it looks like the Jets Miter restructure, but they needed Ed Drusher. All right, final story, Coward, before I run out of steam here. Kyler Marie is just six weeks removed from the surgery after tearing his ACL. He posted some videos of his recent workouts on the Graham. I like that. Showing some progress.

Look at him riding a bike. I like that. He's showing it. I like that. Show me what you're doing. I like that. I thought you liked to work in silence. Don't need to show everything you eat.

work out? Well, this is not eating. When you're rehabbing and you're showing the fan base, hey man, I'm getting my butt together. I like that. I think you should, I think this is important. You know, this is one of the things. Remember when Cam Newton, oh, it was before New England or somebody got him? I forget the timeline of it, but Cam was working his butt off and he would show you these workout videos. He was just sopping wet. And I thought it was like really important that Cam wanted, because Cam had a reputation. He could be a little bit of a screw off, loved his fashion, loved all the on football stuff, and Cam was out there, like, drenched in sweat, and my takeaway is, it matters.

You send messages on all these platforms. Juju Smith-Schuster, send a message as a rookie, a little bit of a goofball. Right there, Kyler Murray's like, I know I'm getting heat, but I'm busting my tail. How's this? That's a good message. How's this? Nobody wanted the Cardinals head coaching job. Nobody, we would agree.

Nobody wanted it. Kyle Murray posts videos in the, I don't know exactly what it was, but just as they're announcing their new head coach. message to the new coach. Look at me, I'm working out. I'm not what everybody says I am. I'm not playing video games all day. They have to get a new offense.

He is playing video games. How do you know he's playing video games? I hear there's people that play video games that follow him and know he's on. That's what I've heard. But I don't follow, I don't play video games. Do you play video games? I do some FIFA occasionally. Well, I own soccer team.

That's supposed to be the best one. FIFA's awesome. I don't play. I don't know what Kyle Murray plays, but he plays a lot of video games. We know he. I couldn't name two. Duty I've heard of, and that's it. Okay.

FIFA is supposed to be the best one. I mean, there's all the sports games I'll play, you know, because I like sports. What's the Y2K? What's the NBA one? NBA 2K? NBA 2K. NBA 2K. Yeah. Not Y2K. It's NBA 2K. I'm not really a video game.

Should we go? Should we? You want to rank the Mission Impossible movie? That's two esoteric jokes today. But how about this? People, if you ever see Cowherton in public, ask him what is favorite Mission Impossible movie is. He will light up and go for, like, winding him up for like five minutes. All great. I never understand why, like, those kind of movies, the artistic community I get doesn't like them, but they always get kind of shunned in like awards, like Mission Impossible. I was so happy to see Top Gun got some Oscar nominations. It was fantastic experience. I went for two hours, came out of that theater, I want to watch it again. It was such a fantastic. I don't think it's raging bull or good fellas, but it was an unbelievable cinematic experience, sound, acting, intensity. It took me places emotionally.

That's all like, when I go to a theater, make me laugh, make me think, give me chills, make me cry. I don't give a rip. I don't give it how, I just, there's a movie out there right now that's really, really loved and my wife watched it the other day, and she's like, it's totally overwritten. it's got three letters I forget. And, you know, so just move me. Yeah.

Did you, I would agree, the emotional movingness in Top Gun Maver. Did you feel the same in Black Panther? That's my son's favorite. I love that. I ask my, my son's watched every superhero movie. That's number one for him. There's just some movies that you, even you know what's going to happen in the end. It's Hollywood.

Yeah, Titanic. I still get emotionally invested. Give me two and a half hours to just sit in the theater or watch awesome movie with action? I knew the boat was sinking. I still love Titanic. Like I knew the ending. You just gave a spoiler alert to...

sell or hold it. I think I trust you. Okay. Chicago Bears trading the first overall pick in the 2023 draft. Hold. But remember, worst record by any starting quarterback last two years. You have to consider it. Bears don't have a history of great offensive culture or moves, but you got to consider

it. They have a ton of cap space. You know they're not going to bring in a veteran guy, but with the, they reset with Bryce Young or C.J. Strax. We're just early to a conversation the Bears will definitely be having in the coming weeks. Next up, Derek Carr will play in the NFC South next season, buys sell hold. Total buy. Buy, bye, bye.

It's the worst quarterback division. He's currently a favorite. He'd instantly, now that Tom Brady's retired, become the best quarterback. That's an easy one, offensive coach. He's got a good receiver, DJ Moore. Defense is excellent. He never had a good defense with the Raiders. So they have to rebuild their offensive lineup, get another back.

But there's wins here for sure. Buy Sell Hold, Aaron Rogers, and the New York Jets next season. It's a sell. Sell, sell, sell. It's a young roster. He's not a good mentor for Zach Wilson. The weather is cold. It just doesn't feel like a fit.

Why would you leave a very stable organization and you have a coach and Robert Salomon. It could very well be on the hot seat. Next up, this feels easy. But I'm going to ask you anyway because you're my stockbroker. Sean Payton will get the Broncos back to the playoffs. It's a whole. They're going to get the 9 to 10 wins,

but they've missed the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons. And so the culture needs a reboot. They've been bad for over half a decade. Now, they do get Tim Patrick, the receiver back. Devante Williams, Williams, the running back. He's terrific. And Garrett Bowles the left tackle. So Peyton gets three noteworthy players.

I think that running back, very good as a rookie. Keep your eye on that running back. He's pretty special. Bye, so hold Eagles give Jalen Hertz a big payday this offseason. You also get, like, great character, plays through pain, pain tolerance matters.

I just on that stage to play that. I know Nick Foles played well on a big stage. This felt different. They ran him 15 times. That's an insane. And they weren't scrambles. They were design runs. They built their offense totally around Jalen Hertz in this game.

He was awesome. Next up, Jimmy Garoppolo will play for the Raiders next season in Vegas. Kind of a sell. Sell, sell. I think they want to upgrade from Derek Carr. Is Garoppelow an upgrade from Derek Carr? Aaron Rogers is. I mean, I think they're going to go two ways.

Big swing on Aaron Rogers or go to the draft class. But I feel like Garoppolo is car except a lot of injuries. Derek's never hurt. Like, what's the point of that? If you're going to let go with Derek, then it's not like Garoppolo would be cheap. You're paying for him too. By so hold, Lamar Jackson will play on the franchise tag next season. Hold.

I think it could be a possible conclusion. He's won 74% of his game, so I know they want him. He did have a say in the new offensive coordinator. That's a promising sign. This division has Joe Burrow, so I'm not a Deshawn Watson guy, but they've got Joe Burrow. And so if you want to win this division, you can't go to the draft this year. You've got to have a grown-up, and he's a grown-up. When we disagree on, the Giants will bring back Daniel Jones next season, buy-sell-hold.

It's a total buy-bye. Buy-bye-bye. Listen, I don't love him, but he had career highs in completion percentage, passing yards, passer rating, and wins. His passer rating was 92 and a half with a bad old line. They're going to bring him back. He's not dynamic. You get about 15 touchdowns a year, but he's certainly capable.

If you shore up that offensive line and you go pay for a receiver, he could get you back to the playoffs. All right. This is a tough one. Brock Purdy, who's out for the next five months at least, will beat out Trey Lance for the 49ers job. I think it's a buy because I think he's an accurate throw over the football. He had the highest passer rating in the league since he became a starter in week 14,

and it wasn't over the top plays. It was delivering strikes to Kiddell and Debo and Iyuk and Christian McCaffrey. He accurately distributes the ball. He doesn't ad lib out of design plays. This offense needs Chris Paul, not Steph Curry, and I think he's a – remember, Kyle Shanahan reportedly wanted Mack Jones over Trey Lance, a limited athlete who delivers strikes. That's what the kid does.

Justin Herber will win MVP under new O.C. Kellynne Moore. All right. Let's hold on that. He's in a division with Mahomes. By the way, they were 27th last year in big plays. And now some of that was the O line was beat up. But I think this is going to be good. But a lot of times when you get a new coordinator, it's bumpy until Thanksgiving. It takes a while.
