Oh, Nelly. I don't have to. Oh, Nelly. So you have been spending time last couple of weeks with the Eagles. And we know a lot about Kansas City. We know Andy Reed in Philly and Andy Reading, Kansas City. And we've gotten to know through endorsements and games, Mahomes. We don't know a lot about Nick Seriani. I know his opening pressure was brutal. And I bailed on him. I was like, done, can't coach.

All right, next. He's proved me wrong. Give me a little bit of the journey. Where is this? He's got a chip. It comes right through his chest. Where's it come from? Okay, so let's start with the opening presser.

For anyone, just if you need to feel good about where you are in your life, if you're early in your journey, watch Nick Siriani's opening presser. But know this. He wanted to preach improvement to his players and to his team, that that's what this is really going to be about, getting better every day. And in one of his first team meetings, after the opening presser, Colin, you know what he did? He said, and I'm going to use myself as example number one, watch this. And he showed his own presser. And he said, I need to get better at this, and I will. And after the second press conference, sure enough, he came into the team meeting.

He played clips of that and said, still not great. Still a long way to go. But I got a little bit better. And that's what we're here to do. We're here to get better. Jamestown, New York, Mount Union. I know an injury ended his career, essentially. I mean, he played an indoor professional football league. Yeah.

But absolutely that chip, Colin, a guy that never had a blue chip experience, never really had a gilded invitation, but who has made it through work ethic and force of personality. You have an interesting connection to Jalen Hertz, who initially I viewed him as somebody where I liked the intangibles. I don't know about the tangibles, arm size, but I love the character, the decency, the humility. He was on with Bradshaw when he got to the Super Bowl, and there was this moment with Terry, and he was so good. There was a question asked about him, immediately moved it to his team.

I thought, that's good parenting, that's self-awareness. The intangibles matter a lot. It unravels a lot of kids. But you were around if I recall during its toughest times. I was. I was assigned to Alabama, Colin, during any number of games where they reached the title through the semi and then the national championship, including 26 and 2 as a starter and getting supplanted by Tua at halftime against Georgia,

the famous second and 26, when Tua throws the touchdown that beats Georgia in overtime. My assignment, go out, interview Sabin, then interview Jalen Hertz, who's been benched for the second half of that game and interview him live. They've just won the national championship. He's 20 years old. If you go back and you look at that clip, you want to see the seeds of a leader, look at how he handled that moment, live when it just happens, was thrilled that he was a national champion, said,

I knew Tua was going to succeed. He's built different. He's built this way. Nothing about him sulked. Nothing about him looked inward. Everything was about the collective success of what the tide had achieved. at 20 years old. We forget he's 24, by the way. It's crazy. He's been around for 10 years. It's crazy. And that's the maturity. He feels much older than he is.

Brandon Graham of the many Eagles you've talked to, they have so much depth of talent. And they, for a great team, they've got underdog stories, which is important. We just saw an NBA star-studded team, Kyrie and Simmons and KD. There were no underdog stories. Philadelphia is in a rare position. They're great, and everybody's doubted them. A lot of those stories, it's very powerful. That's your piece Sunday, right? Brandon Graham.

Brandon Graham is Philadelphia's longest-tenured professional athlete at present right now. How about let that settle in for a second. 13 years with the Eagles, okay? And here he is he's a first-round draft choice by his own description, first half of his career labeled as a bust. a guy that didn't produce the way he was expected to, his entire career changed with the strip sack of Brady in the Super Bowl, the play that iced the Super Bowl for the Eagles.

We remember Philly Special and we remember that strip sack. He is the Walter Payton. He was the Walter Payton nominee from the Eagles. He's done so much outreach in the community. Our story is about one particular act of kindness. A family, diehard Eagles fans. They have a son who has Down syndrome. who was born with half a heart,

not supposed to reach his first birthday, Joe Idol. At 37, heart giving out, liver giving out, needed to get stronger to qualify for a potential transplant. Somebody reaches out to Graham. He sends Joe Idol a motivational video. Let's go.

You like us, you think I work hard, you think we work hard, you need to work hard. If you don't, you're not going to You're not going to have a chance for this transplant. He does qualify. He gets the transplant seven months in intensive care, a brutal rehab. Graham comes back again.

Another motivational message. He comes back again, another motivational message to help Joe through this journey. Won't tell you how the story ends, but they finally meet a training camp and Joe says to him, Brandon, we're going to go to the Super Bowl together. You'll see how the piece ends. Can't wait. Guisbumps, as you describe it. Hassan Reddick. Yeah. Another underdog story, Colin. He had a game. We'd do something occasionally before Super Bowls or big games. We list the top 10 players, and I had him out of it. And McIntyre... Your hierarchy there for who's involved. And McIntyre's like, I think you should have him in the game.

He's just, so give me his story. So game wrecker, obviously, we saw what he did on the sixth nap with Purdy. Here's a guy, first person in the history of his family to go to college, grows up in Camden directly across the river from Philly, a very, very tough place to grow up in New Jersey, toughest town in Jersey. No scholarship offers, doesn't play high school football as a junior because he's hurt, breaks his leg his senior year, zero offers. mom takes out a loan. He's a smart student, goes to Temple, no scholarship as a walk-on.

By his second season, gets a scholarship, plays at the link in college, blows up because he gets an invite to the Senior Bowl, dominates Blue Chip SEC guys at the Senior Bowl. I love that. Shoots up all kinds of draft charts, right? First round draft pick doesn't really fit in necessarily with the team that drafts him in Houston, goes one-year deal to Carolina, begins to pop. Roseman sees him, three-year deal, come back home. What's he done since coming back to play for the team he's cheered for in Philadelphia,

across the river in Camden? He had 30 people at that game from his family, 28 of whom live in Camden, watching him get through, blow that game up when he sacked Purdy. You know, there's a great story. And there's a great message in that, in that you and I have talked about this privately before is fit matters a lot. Like you and I both, you know, we talk to young journalists and it's like it, we're in a weird profession. And sports is like this too.

Failure really becomes an ally. It creates a jet fuel. And you've got, you become more strategic and you understand how rare the opportunities are. And I've always thought the most amazing statistics. statistic about the national football league. Half the players are undrafted. You bring this up all the time. And I love this.

When you guys, you and Matt, go through, look at the great quarterbacks. Did they come from the Blue Chair? Rarely. Rarely do they. And again, you could go through. Look at Jason Kelsey. A guy that, again, nobody necessarily really wanted. He goes to Cincinnati.

He's an offensive player in high school. He's invited a walk on. by Dan Antonio, they leave. Kelly comes in. Brian Kelly says, I see you as an offensive lineman. Kelsey says, I've never played that. I'll do it if you put me on scholarship. They do.

He becomes obviously an all-time great at this point in his career as an offensive lineman, the absolute heart and soul of that team. And if you've ever, if you've never watched it, his talk after they won the Super Bowl, immediately after about the power of persistence and how it is, the number one quality above all in leading to success in life. Persistence and how much it matters. There's a presidential quote from Coolidge that he memorized.

His grandfather made him memorize it as a kid and he recited it after the Super Bowl. The power of that quality. There's such great stories. It's such a privilege to be able to be around the players and the coaches and be inspired by them and tell those stories. Yeah, I joked with Kirk Herb's. Street. We both... Friend of ours, yeah. And I got a good laugh at him years ago, and I said, you know, granite countertops and

crown molding, ruin our kids. I like, you know, there's something about the easier the life coming up, then you have to sort of find motivating aspects. But Mahomes, losing record in college. Yep. Jalen Hertz, benched at Alabama. That is not an infrequent narrative. And I also think part of the power of this narrative of this Super Bowl, right, is two black quarterbacks for the first time playing against each other.

And I think the portrait of excellence that we see in that position from each of them. And I also think the tribute to the families that these two young men. When you look at Jalen's father, first of all, when you look at Jalen's coaches, wow. You have his dad who's an amazing person, then Sabin, then Lincoln Riley. that's pretty remarkable. And when you look at Mahomes, the professional athlete, dad, different sport,

I get it, the humility that I think has been instilled in him. Let's take a second and appreciate not just the incredible transcendent talent, but the quality of person at the presidential position

on display in this game. Yeah, it's so well put. We were talking about the Brooklyn Net situation. and there's a reason they tab Chuck Daly to coach the Dream Team and Greg Popovich and Shoshchowski to the Olympic teams. The more talent you have, the stronger coach you need. And with quarterbacks, I often find the greater character they bring to the table, Mahomes and Jalen Hertz, the easier they are to coach. It's not a talent thing. Even football practice is hard.

And so when you get these kids who are the face of the franchise and they have such deep embedded character, they are so willing to be coached. And what it does is it sends such a message. Patrick Mahomes' first contract, big contract, sent such a message to the organization. Guys, I'm about winning. It's very, again, $450 million a nice bag. But it's like that little thing, Tim Duncan, Brady, guys, I just want you to know, winning is my thing. And it makes everybody subtly, it's a nuance. We talk about it in the media for one day. It lasts for years.

And this is something I think you bring up, and I appreciate when you do. You bring this up often about Brady's ability, to play the long game mentally, to take less money. I realize the situation allowed him to do that, but to benefit the rest of the team. And I do think that when you look at the quality of character of so many of the great quarterbacks throughout the league's history, you do see, it's not an accident. It's not. It's not. Here's just one thing that we'll share during the Super Bowl telecast.

Of the people who reached out to Jalen, I asked him, people outside the team who reached out to you in these two weeks that had great meaning for you. first name he mentioned Peyton Manning he said sent me such a long message about lessons and how to treat these two weeks and how to approach this game so that you might have a greater chance at success

that's from their connection at the Manning Academy at the Manning Passing Academy like does Peyton Manning have to do that no it's not an accident the character shows Tom Rinaldi we are so lucky

you to have him. I consider him the great storyteller of this network in the previous one. What a pleasure. I can't wait to watch you Sunday. I've got my tissues ready. You two just walked off stage. Seinfeld's next. All right. And let's start with some news that's kind of breaking in the NFL. Dan Graziano at ESPN is reporting that former Cardinals head coach Cliff Kingsbury is currently in Houston. I like it. He's meeting with Domingo. I like it.

I like it. On the Texans coaching staff. Kingsbury obviously fired after the four and 13. debacle in Arizona. He had issues with Kyla Murray. You're already saying you like it. This seems like a no-brainer, right? Okay, you know I always lean offensive coach, but there are defensive coaches that I think work. I think the D'emico Ryan's Houston situation, I think his leadership, I've got, I know a lot of people inside the Niners organization, he's really, really strong. This is a really good hire.

I think, and this is not a knock, I think Cliff with a strong presence in Domingo Ryan, this is now a really formidable duo. Listen, as good as Belichick is, he missed on the O.C. When he had duos matter, it's not just Jordan and Pippet. The great coaches, Shane Walter was OC now for Pete Carroll. Waldron, my bad. Okay, so now he gets the one-two punch. great coaches

Brian Dable Wink Martindale Okay You can't do it in an island I think Cliff and Domingo I think this is a really strong duo And I'm sure there's Houston fans Who are like

Oh Kingsbury stinks Listen Demico Ryan's Has had to scheme up defenses against him And two years ago When the Niners went to the NFC title game Arizona went 2 and 0 And scored some points on these Niners So I think there's a great move

For Houston They're actually doing like things I like I know same Cliff Kingsbury Can he get Bryce Young I don't know about that. We'll see. Next up, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

Kevin Durant, apparently in our hotel, I somehow missed this last night. At any rate, him and Kyrie were traded out of Brooklyn. Kyrie is in Dallas. KD is in Phoenix here where we are. Well, ESPN's Brian Winhorse reported, they may not have seen the last of the Nets dysfunctional duo. Winhoose pointed out, Kyrie will be a free agent this summer and was interested in,

Phoenix. Now, I did look into this, Colin. Chris Paul has a partially guaranteed contract next year. He's on the hook for 30 mil, but only guaranteed 15. That's a lot easier to trade if you're looking to bring on. No. Because you, listen, Booker and Durant are elite scores. That's not, and by the way, Chris Paul's got a great mid-range game. They don't need more points. What Phoenix has done, when did Phoenix get a little wobbly in the last two years. It was the Aiton Monty Williams issue. This thing looked like, oh, it was just, I mean, it was everybody liked everybody, and then it went a little sideways. Aiton can be an emotional guy. Then you bring Kyrie in. This team, if they had a little

stronger bench, I think Phoenix can win the title. I think they'll eventually get a little unraveled. They'll be very dependent on Durant and Booker scoring. I don't think you need another score. are going to be big in the playoffs because they don't have wing defense. If you face Kauai and you've got face Luka, I don't know who's defending. Well, they had to give up Mikhail Bridges, so they had to give that up to get what they got. Yeah. I don't think it's a slam dunk like you think going forward. Final story, here we go. Lakers traded away Russell Westbrook obviously landed DeAngelo Russell. Dave McManneman said the Lakers are removing is a great quote. A vampire from the locker room in Westbrook and that he sucks the blood out of the locker room. That's a little bit harsh. It

did not sit well with your buddy, Draymond Green, who said the following. You better be certain that that is the case, because that right there could really affect someone's livelihood. That right there could make a team that was like, will sound Russell Westbrook be like, ah, but do I want that in my locker room? Because he was in the locker room with LeBron, James, and Anthony Davis. And if he's a vampire in that locker room,

and me personally, I know Russell Westbrook does not have bad character. I know Russell Westbrook is an incredible dude. And so I didn't love that, but again, I can't 100% dispel that because I'm not in the locker room. See, I think my take away in Westbrook is that he's a great guy. My problem with Russell is playoff basketball becomes half-court basketball, and he's not built for it. He is built. A lot of his production is on his hyper-athleticism. Half-court basketball is your handles.

Will you set a screen? Will you defend? Can you hit an open three? How about setting a screen? He doesn't set screen. Well, that's, again, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I feel like half-court basketball, if you take playoffs out of his career, I almost view him differently, is that he's not really built, especially as he's aged, for half-court basketball. I think he's a good guy. I think he's a good guy.

I think he's a little. No, I mean, I've known guys that know him. Fun to be around. funny personality LeBron everybody likes Russell so I don't the vampire stuff but I do think

there's a toxicity You think? I mean last five years he's been on five different teams Yeah come on like it's obvious But I think his game is toxic

Yes I think because he has You know what he is He's kind of got a way he plays It's not It's not It's the opposite of the Swiss Army knife Fast

Fly into the basket Hyper athletic Playoff basketball gets nuanced. Got to adapt. Well, he's just, that's not his skill set. He's not a nuanced player. There you go.

I can't believe you're flip-flopping and going with the Chiefs. There's a lot of Chiefs fans right in the building right now. I got some bad news, guys. The headline will be. Claws out, balls out. Eagles land on Lombardi. Colin, I got Philadelphia winning this. You've talked about this offensive line for the Chiefs.

I started to dig into some of these games, okay? Do you remember when the Chiefs faced Buffalo earlier the season? Von Miller dominated off the edge, two sacks. Then they played the Raiders. Max Crosby, off the edge, two sacks. Remember that Tennessee game against Malik Willis? Couldn't do anything. Mahomes sacked four times.

Creed Humphrey had his worst game of the season. Pressure up the middle, Jeffrey Simmons. I believe the Eagles dominate on the defensive line. They get to Mahomes just enough and eke out a third. 31-27-type victory for Philadelphia. All right, a lot of people interested. One of the more popular bets, the MVP tomorrow's headlines today. MVP, who you got?

I told you before the conference championships, I bet on this gentleman, because I loved his match-up, whether they played the Bengals or the Chiefs, and I've got this one. The headline will be Brownie Troop. A.J. earns MVP merit badge. A.J. Brown, the MVP, you've been talking about the one safety high. Leave these corners on an island. A.J. Brown is the difference maker.

They brought him on in the offseason. He's been dominant. Colin, I'm just telling you right now. I'm loaded up financially on A.J. Brown. I shouldn't talk too much about the gambling aspect here, but this is my big bet. A.J. Brown dominating on the outside. Deep ball. You're doubting Jalen hurts with the shoulder injury. Not a worry of mine. I think A.J. Brown has a big game. Eagles win. I always encourage gambling talk on the show. Let's talk Broncos. I ran into round.

Russell Wilson last night. Tomorrow's headlines today. Sean Payton's in town. Who you got? What do you like about that story? So you remember in the off season? I told you, you know, keep an eye on the Giants. I love what they did with their head coach, Brian Daibble. They picked up Wink Martindale. Well, the Broncos had the best hire in the off season. The headline will be Sean in 60 seconds. Broncos back on fast track. I like the Broncos. You know, we want to buy the Lions next year. We're buying the Steelers. Denver Broncos for sure are a buy.
