Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast. For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Starting point is 00:01:17 With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by searching Herd. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Played in the NBA for over a decade, won a championship. with the Celtics. He could shoot. Always looking for his shot. Eddie House in the house today for us. Okay. So I like the Kevin Durant move, but you are what you trade for and you are what you trade away. So McHale Bridges is a very good defender. He's gone. Here comes Durant. My guess is they'll have nights when they're really special, but I do worry about. Are they as good defensively? The Warriors are deep.
Starting point is 00:02:27 The Clippers are deep. Memphis is deep. How do you view KD and the current sons going forward? I think it was a great splash. It was like the biggest splash that you could think of that happened. I get like, wow, the sons just got them. Pair him with Devin Booker. Pair him with Chris Paul and DeAndre Aiton, man, how fantastic it's going to be
Starting point is 00:02:49 and fun to watch. But when you kind of get past that and remember, Chris Paul is aging, he's been in injured. Devin Booker has been injured with hamstring injuries and those things pop back up any time, right? DeAndre Aden has been questioned about his motor. To me, I look at it like it was, it looks good, but the depth of that team. You just named four teams and that's not even including the Eastern Conference teams that I feel that are deeper than the Phoenix Suns. It looks good, but they're going to, it's all going to come down to seating. Where do they, the first round, second round matchup. Can they get to the conference finals? I think they can, but I don't think that they'll be able to win a championship with the team constructed. And I said this yesterday,
Starting point is 00:03:35 I think the most pressure is on James Jones and Monty Williams because they have to make it work. There's new ownership. When you inherit guys as a new owner, you inherit the GM, you inherit that coach. That's not hand-ficked guys for you. So now if this doesn't work,
Starting point is 00:03:54 you've got to look at that they'll probably be looking to replace these guys. Maybe Monty Williams could stay, but I believe that James Jones is definitely on the hot seat right now, and I love James. You know, Golden State, I said this. There's so much intellectual basketball capacity on that team, the Draymond, the Kurz, Steph, Clay, so many big games. It just, like, it reminds me of the Patriots. They could stumble in September, but three months later, they'd figure out problems. Smart teams, you played on a Celtic team. Smart veteran players, they figure out their issues. It takes a lot of playing
Starting point is 00:04:27 flights. It's a lot of playing together. But I watched Golden State in the last two weeks. They figured their bench out. Cominga's now playing. Pools now a gamer. Lamb. Defenzo. I look at Golden State. I still think they're the favorite in the West.
Starting point is 00:04:44 What say you? Yeah, I think you've got to go through Golden State. To me, you've got to dethrone the champions to become the champions. And I think once they get healthy, that's been the issue for them. The only question that I have, Colin, will be like their road record, how they play on the road, you know, and I think that there has been a disconnect with that team on the road. At home, everybody's
Starting point is 00:05:06 at their own house. They're eating their own food, sleeping in their own bed, not forced to have to hang out with each other. When you go on the road, you are forced to hang out with each other or be loners. And it looks like when they've been playing on the road lately and me all season long, they have kind of been loners, right? It's like, clicked up. This team is kind of clicked up. you've got the youngsters and then you've got the OGs and those guys are are hanging with each other and I don't know if they're mixing too much and I think that's the reason why you see them not play particularly well on the road but at home they're phenomenal and when Steph Curry comes back they're going to get even better I never will count the Golden State Warriors out because of their championship
Starting point is 00:05:44 pedigree their championship coaching staff and just the fact that they have Steph Curry is a total game changer were you surprised the clippers brought in Westbrook when you look at his previous three or four stops where he's kind of lost, I would say, you know, a step defensively. He's never been an elite shooter. He's a big personality, a big presence to bring into the trade deadline. You don't have a camp to work some things out. It's not working right now. Were you surprised by it?
Starting point is 00:06:15 Well, I was surprised in this regard that they needed guys that could space the floor and he's not a floor spacer. Right. It was the same situation when he was in L.A. with the Lakers. And he just is not a floor spacer. He's a guy that's trying to get to the basket. Nobody's going to really guard him out at the three-point line. They got to figure out ways to make him be effective without having to take as many shots or take as many threes.
Starting point is 00:06:40 How can you do that? I think put him in the second unit, let him play with the second unit and not with the first unit. Paul George needs space to work. He likes to work in the mid-range. We know Kauai needs space to work. He likes to work in the mid-range. And if you have a guy that's on the court that's not accounted for beyond the three-point
Starting point is 00:06:57 line, then there's going to be a lot of help defense and a lot of bodies and gaffed that are going to be plugged. Last night, we've seen it with Draymond Green, how he was sagging off. And at that point, if you're Russell Westbrook, you say, okay, if I'm not making the shot, how can I still be effective? Well, swing the ball real quick and go right into a ball screen. You set the screen, the guy will come off naked because the defense is all the way in the in the paint, he'll be able to get a wide open shot or be able to get downhill with the defender
Starting point is 00:07:26 on his heels because he's so far back. So it's just ways that they're going to have to try to tweak their offense. I would like to see him coming in with that second unit like he was with the Lakers. I thought he was much more effective that way. But the Clippers have much more problems than Russell Westbrook. Yeah. They can't stop anybody. They can't stop anybody. And that's a problem when you supposed to have two of the top two-way players on your team and they're not giving you it on the defensive team. What do you do now? I, I, I, I said I would have moved AD before the season. I think he peaked about three years ago.
Starting point is 00:07:55 I think when bigs get banged up, they don't get healthier as they get older. Some of this is, you know, he's a commodity, and you've got to know sometimes when to move on with players, when to move into them, when to move out of them. So now LeBron has gotten to a point where you're going to get about 50 games with LeBron. He probably should be playing about 26 minutes a night, but the Lakers have leaned on him to play much more because often AD is gone. what do you do at the end of the season if they don't make the playoffs? What do you do if you're... I agree with you where I would have been moved off Anthony Davis. You got the championship from him.
Starting point is 00:08:30 You got that championship. And now you got to strike while the iron was hot. His value was a lot higher. I think last year and the year before, I would have looked to get off because he just can't stay healthy. And the one thing we know, we say availability, reliability is all the most. that's the best ability in sports. And to me, he's just not there.
Starting point is 00:08:51 And then seeing him sit out the other night, even though they got that win, knowing that you have to win games, but you're still low management, doing the low management thing. And LeBron is out. It's really your team. I just, I don't trust his health. And that's it. He's a phenomenal player when he's healthy, but he's just not healthy that much.
Starting point is 00:09:10 I don't think he's played 80 games or 79 games his whole career. Finally, J. Mack and I disagree on this. I think if you're 90%, 85% as an NBA player, if I get Steph Curry for 18 minutes, that's better than not playing. Now, Steph's had some injuries. He's older. There are players that you worry about. But the other night, AD came in. He was reportedly pain free, and they didn't play him in a must-win road game. And, you know, J-Mack's thing is, guys are playing longer. now because, you know, they don't play every night. My takeaway is, well, then shorten the season, but I think you got to gut it out and give
Starting point is 00:09:52 me 14 minutes. I just think it's good for camaraderie. I think I think Kauai Leonard's hard on a coach and hard on a staff. He'll call up at 4 o'clock and say, I'm not playing. I think that's hard on teams. What do you do with load management? Where are you on that? I'm not a fan of load management at all.
Starting point is 00:10:10 I think, you know, coming from when I played and how we played, it was a badge of honor to try to get 82 games. And nobody's going to be 100% healthy once the season starts. You're going to have something that's bothering you. I'll go back to when I was in college. You know, I got an elbow in my jaw, broke my jaw. I didn't miss a game. I missed maybe two practices, but I didn't miss a game.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Like, players play. You're supposed to go out there and play and try to play through it. If you are not injured, it's different from being hurt and being injured. If you are injured, then that's something different. Then you've got to heal that injury and get right. but if you're hurt, we're all dealing with nagging injuries. We've seen Kobe with his finger popped out of socket, pop it back in. I see many guys do that.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I see guys separate their shoulder, pop it back into place, and then go out and play. So, I mean, it's just a want to do. Is do you love this game and is this game, does it mean that much to you? And I'm not questioning some of these guys love for it. I'm just saying that the sports medicine and everything behind it, the training staff, they have just demated to where now it's easier for you to sit out because they can say, well, look, this is the data that we have on if you play like this, then maybe we might not have you late.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Well, in the Lakers case, it might not be a next time or late, you know, they might not make the playing game. So every single game matters. If you're not hurt, you are healthy, you're able to go out there and play. I think guys should be playing. And I don't know what, I don't know what, I just believe that this collective bargain is going to be a whole lot. We might be looking at a lockout coming up. Eddie House, you look great.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Love hearing from you. We'll talk soon. Man, thank you. Have a good one. Thank you for having. So he's worried about the sons. And by the way, I do think you make that move of the deadline. For a year and a half, I love the sons.
Starting point is 00:12:00 But it's a LeBron thing. Katie and Chris Paul getting older. You know, if you could go to Kevin Durant and say, we're going to play at 27 minutes a night. and that's what we're going to play you. But I don't think they have the depth to do that. You can do that with, by the way, the Warriors now can go to Steph Curry and say 24 minutes a night because Jordan Poole and Clay and DeFincenzo. I mean, you can see what Golden State's doing.
Starting point is 00:12:22 They're building this thing so they don't have to play Clay. They can play them 55. They'll play them home games, but they won't play Steph on the road. They'll pay him 24 minutes. If you looked at how deep the Warriors are at Guard now, DeFenzo, Peyton in a month, Clay. Don't forget about the pool party. By the way, you didn't talk about him enough last night. How electric is he with the basketball?
Starting point is 00:12:43 It's fun. He's more than fun. This guy is excited. I love watching Jordan Pool. I don't know if you want to play with him because he's very ball hoggish, but watching that guy go to work. It's tough to guard him, man. You can't say in front of him.
Starting point is 00:12:56 No, he's good. He's like you, except he makes the shots. Oh. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, F.S1 and the IHard Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. Starting point is 00:13:38 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way,
Starting point is 00:13:53 this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music.

So, if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford
Starting point is 00:14:37 and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Starting point is 00:14:51 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jek. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent
Starting point is 00:15:03 episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in America. history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Somebody fed that garbage to you. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Jay Mack with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I cannot take people off the bounce at my age. Or at any age, really. It's just not happening. Catch a shoot, baby.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Let's start with the NFL, Trevor Lawrence and its breakout season. Jags get to the playoffs, first time since 20. 2017, they got a dub in the postseason. Doug Peterson deserves a lot of credit. Here's what he had to say about what he wants to see Trevor Lawrence improve on. I think the next step for Trevor is just another step in the leadership role, right? You know, last year was probably about, you know, learning a new offense, learning to play this game, learning a bunch of different aspects of playing quarterback in the National Football League. but we just build on that that's the next step that's the challenge for him again to take as great
Starting point is 00:16:39 as he was and as good as he was at the end of the year he can be better yeah i mean it's it's Cincinnati feels like burroughs franchise Kansas City feels like mahomes franchise it's time for jacksonville to not feel like Doug peterson's team it's Trevor's franchise i mean i think that that that is that's the difference to me is i feel like the top two or three guys in the league you know it's their franchise. So they franchise tagged Evan Ingram. You saw that. Yeah, it's good. 11 million bucks. He's worth every penny. He's a good tight end. I'm looking at the depth chart. Christian Kurt, solid. He's more of a two, not a one. Marvin Jones we like. Zay Jones, but they got Calvin Ridley. Oh, no, no, no, no. You were on them early. They're going
Starting point is 00:17:20 to be a multiple win playoff team, I think. Well, remember, they play in an awful division where two of the teams don't have quarterbacks and I don't think we love Ryan Taylor. They don't have. This could be an 11-win team next year. Oh, I think it could be a 12-13. In that division? The Colts don't have the firepower. I don't know if Tennessee does. It's a very good football team. I mean, listen, the team they played twice this year and were outclassed the chiefs.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Take the chiefs off their schedule. They lost twice. We're outclass both times. By the way, they're still in that sort of semi-rebuilding mode. Well, I think they covered the spread once, the playoff game, right? Did they cover it? They lost the game. I gave out first half.
Starting point is 00:17:58 That's the only reason I know I hit that one. Not everybody bets the game. Everyone bets. All right, next up. Ohio State QB. C.J. Stroud, expected to be one of the top five, ten guys in the draft. Stroud's athleticism surprised some people in that playoff loss to Georgia. But the Buckeye QB considers himself to be a ball placement specialist.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Here's what he said, discussing his athleticism and accuracy. If you turn on the film, you really watch what I do and you really look at film game to game, I have used my athleticism, not only just in the Georgia game. where I did it a lot. I've done it in every other game. I'm not trying to do it to my own horn, but I throw guys open, and that's something that I think is rare, because at the league, dudes aren't wide open, and I think I've done that in my career where guys aren't wide open, but I try to throw them that way. I try to throw them down. I try to throw them out.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I try to throw it over the shoulder, things like that, because separation is not always going to be there. So that's something that I pye myself on. Could I say this, though, and it's not a concern, it's a reality. Ohio State has become the number one wide-receiving school. in the country. I think they've surpassed Alabama. Their receivers last year, they have a, I think a freshman
Starting point is 00:19:07 from Seattle, who was amazing. Harrison, Marvin Harrison's kid's insane. And the other kids are first round pick. He barely played with the hamstring injury. Smith and Ajigba, yeah. They are, and by the way, I think it's because Brian Hartline, the former Buckeye and NFL guy, is on their staff. He's like the best recruiter in the country.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Their wide receiving talent is better than half the NFL. So let me ask you that. Does that ding Stroudel a little bit. Like he's talking about throwing open Marvin Harrison. Hey, why don't you go to Harrison's the best. If Harrison was available in this draft, I'd draft him number one. If CJ Stroud is playing for pick a team in the fact 12, is he as highly thought of? By the way, his left tackle, Paris Johnson is going to be a top 20 pick. To his credit, he got the ball to him. So he is accurate. He was accurate before Harrison. He's
Starting point is 00:19:54 been accurate for three years. That's not the issue. But I will say this, it's like these Alabama guys. All these Alabama guys are like, Alabama for about a four-year stretch was like, became wide receiver you. When Sabin first got that, it was cornerback you, then wide receiver. Ohio State now wide receiver, all they do is get five-star guys. And about four out of five of them hit. So it's not a knock on Stroud, but I mean, that receiving core is significantly better than
Starting point is 00:20:20 New England's today. Yeah. Like, not even close. It's weird. If you put on that Georgia tape, you can't convince me. that you would take Bryce Young over C.J. Stroud. That's how good he was in that game. You can't convince me Georgia was better than Ohio State. Ohio State outplayed him. They could not guard Ohio State's wide receivers. Nobody could.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Well, the kid Ringo, who is a fringe first round pick for Georgia, he struggled. I mean, he had penalties and Harrison ate him up until the injury to Harrison. Harrison is, Harrison would be the number one pick this year if he's available. So would Caleb Williams. A wide receiver number one? Oh, I think he's a sensational all-time talent. Did you see the Will Anderson numbers? If I was the Chicago Bears who need a receiver, I would take Harrison in one second. Over an edge rusher?
Starting point is 00:21:06 Harrison's a 65 catch. I need to give it more thought, but you're right. Jamar Chase kind of tilted the feel like how early can you take a receiver. There is a, there's not a great receiver this year. Harrison is. He's great. He is all time potentially great. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:23 Finally, Anthony Richardson, we talked about him earlier. He's slaying interviews, as the kids say, slay, Colin. Former Gators QB Richardson dealt with some accuracy issues to put it mildly in college. But overall, his ceiling is massive. You know why? Because he played 12 games in his college career, basically.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Now, if he can perform well in workouts, does he get consideration up top? Here's Richardson talking about which MVP quarterbacks he models his game after. Growing up, it was always Cam Newton for me. But then when I got to high school, just seeing how dynamic Lamar was. I tried to implement both of those guys in my life.
Starting point is 00:22:01 I started calling myself Cam Jackson in the 11th grade, just trying to make big plays, you know, so just Camdened in Lamar Jackson. Look at his shoulders on that guy. No, I mean, he's, that's the Josh Allen stuff. Are you doing the shoulder workouts he's doing? He, there's a lot, there's a reason why Seattle, if Stroud or Bryce is gone, Seattle has to,
Starting point is 00:22:21 I mean, I don't, I think he struggles on the easy stuff. Is that fixable? I don't know. Well, it was with Josh Allen, so yeah. But if you don't have to plan for two years, is he worth the risk? Seattle doesn't have a ton of needs. I mean, they really don't. Let's not act like there was Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:22:38 They made the playoffs with Gino Smith. They did. That's true. In a pretty tough division. I don't know if they lose to the Niners by in that game. Well, Niners are way better football. Niners have nine Hall of Famers. Niners' good players are all veterans almost.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Seahawks good players are all kids, mostly. So that was like an unfair fight. That's fair. But defensively, they need a lot in the trenches. They need an edge rusher. Defensive tackle, they can't stop the run. Well, Shelby Harris is good. They need edge rush.
Starting point is 00:23:04 They could use a little more, they could use another corner. Their safeties are great. Linebackers are capable. Jamal Adams is back for them. Remember that guy? I don't know. I'm kidding. Remember that guy.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Jay Mack for the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Line. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. This is Steve Covino and Rich Davis. And together we are Covino and Rich. Coveino and Rich.

Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Start the year with a slam dunk wireless savings. Switch to Consumer Cellular Talk Text Data. 20 bucks a month.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Go to consumer cellular.com slash the herd. All right. heading off to an undisclosed location after the show. What are you doing this weekend? Are you going to be wearing like a hat low and like low profile this weekend? Hanging out with my son looking at some colleges. Oh, that sounds fun. We are going to something called a rage room.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Have you heard of that? Oh, yeah, for the kids. Super cool. You get to smash stuff. Sledgehammer, baseball bat. Very stoked. Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. Blow stuff up.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Love it. All right, we call it tomorrow's headlines today. Let's start Lakers. What's the headline after the LeBron injury? It's just so disappointing, right? I mean, we know the clippers stink. They're not fun. Now the Lakers don't have LeBron.
Starting point is 00:27:26 The headline will be. Purple and Golden Gooseeg. Lakers can't crack the playoffs. Colin, it's just looking bleak. We looked at the schedule yesterday with LeBron out. There's so many guys ahead of them in the standings that they have to pass. So, like, tonight must win against Minnesota. Minnesota ahead of you got to beat them.
Starting point is 00:27:44 And then Sunday Golden State comes here. You got to beat them. damn, they're ahead of you, and Curry's back. Colin, I don't see a path to the playoffs for the Lakers, and I know this, we're going to jumpstart some Anthony Davis chatter here about whether or not he's a Laker next year. AD can't get them to the playoffs, the Angela Russell's injury. Looking bleak for L.A.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Hate to be a year ahead of stuff, but I would have moved off AD before the season started. Tomorrow's headlines today, Warriors' Open Steph returns Sunday. What's the headline going to be for Mr. Curry? Well, you know my favorite player in all the sports. is the chef curry. So the headline, well, B. Steph Boyardee, Curry opens up a can on L.A. Colin, Curry's turning 35 this month, but he's still having an incredible season. 42% on three-pointers, one of the best of his career. And his injury was a bit of a blessing in disguise. As you noted, they're getting a lot of minutes for DeVincenzo. Poole is playing with guys
Starting point is 00:28:38 that he usually had not played with. Their bench is deepening thanks to Curry. I think you're right. They ease him back in slowly. I think he has a nice game this weekend in L.A. come on. Stars are going to be out Sunday. I tried to get tickets to this, but I didn't think Curry was going to play. Now I'm missing out. And I think Curry has a big game. And if you missed out on the Warriors, that's probably the best team in the NBA. Yeah, I watched that third quarter last night. They are, they're a great third quarter team. Tomorrow's headlines today. I love the move. I'm not so sure with you. Sons ad K.D. Boy, you know, looking at that path in the West, very difficult. Devin Booker, Kevin Durant,
Starting point is 00:29:15 up, but what about the point guard? The headline. Will B. C. P3. No. Sons, stars lose the war. Look at Kevin Durant with the Princess Leia Buns. I'm sorry, I'm not buying this team. Cullen, the stars rise in the playoffs, right? We know this. Historically, they dominate. What happened of Chris Paul last year, Colin? What happened? Totally faded. All of a sudden, he just turned into garbage against the Dallas Mavericks and lost in game seven. He was the reason they went down. now you're relying on Chris Paul, by the way, birthday coming up in May, which would be like the Western Conference Finals. He's going to be able to carry this team because we know what defense are going to do.
Starting point is 00:29:54 They're going to load up on Booker. They're going to load up on Durant, and they're going to say, oh, yeah, Josh Akogi, will give you all the shots you want. DeAndre Aiton, going to be unhappy. He's getting the ball. I'm just, I can see problems for Phoenix. You know, I like to look around corners, as you like to say, it ain't going to be pretty for Kevin Doreans.
Starting point is 00:30:08 You know, it's interesting. We feel like the East has two great teams at the top. And then Sixers, Cleveland, New York, they're kind of fun, right? The West may not have a great team after the Warriors, but man, there's a lot of Denver, Memphis. I mean, Sacramento can't defend this microphone, but man, can they score. All right, tomorrow's headline today. We got NFL news. The headline for Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Starting point is 00:30:37 A lot of talk today. We're seeing reports, a contract with the four to start with his annual. salary, which has sent you into spastics over here, if that's even a word. I don't think he stays with the Giants. Too much chatter. The headline will be, are you serious? Bucks don't nickel and dime. Captain Daddy. Colin, I was looking at the salary cap. I know some people around the league close to the bucks. They got like six free agents on the defensive side. They're going to cut their left tackle. Donovan Smith. He's a huge cap, and he struggled. They'll move worse to left tackle. They are going to be able to free up money.
Starting point is 00:31:11 and you know they need a quarterback badly. Todd Bowles, rough year last year. He knows if he stinks. He's probably going to be out on his keister. You cut Mike Evans or trade him. You can free up a lot of cap space. You need a quarterback. They had nothing behind Brady.
Starting point is 00:31:25 They cannot go into the next season without a quarterback. Daniel Jones goes down to Florida. Save some money on the taxes. We know the Florida taxes. That is true. Versus the taxes in New York or Jersey. I think Daniel Jones and Tampa keep an eye on it as we head into next week.
Starting point is 00:31:41 I totally disagree, but if you've been on this for four months, if this happens, it will be your greatest victory. I don't think there's any chance. He's anywhere except New York, but you have been on this for four months. Brian Daibble is too smart to know that I can't pay this guy $40 million a year. Come on, are you kidding me? That's like Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes money. Come on. It's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:32:04 I think so, too. Does he elevate anybody? Well, he beat the Vikings, you know. Twice. What did damn do? Yeah. No, he was, if you take the Viking games out, it's a pretty... Vikings were like the 25th rated pass defense. And he also was a guy that played a ton in college.
Starting point is 00:32:19 And he's now... A three-year starter! And a ton. I mean, Kenny Pickett played a ton in college, but it felt like his last six, seven starts. You're like, oh, Kenny Pickett, a light went on. It's weird. Can he picket arrow up on the rookie deal? Daniel Jones, 40-mill arrowed down. Sorry. That's a good segment next week. Finally, tomorrow's headlines today. I think he's the most talented quarterback in the draft.
Starting point is 00:32:42 I have some concerns. What's going to be the headline for Bryce Young? You know, we saw a coach earlier in the show talking about, well, he's tough. We're not going to be drafting high again. You know, it's good to get a quarterback. Guy by the name of Jared Goff has had a good run, but his cap hits coming up.
Starting point is 00:32:58 The headline will be Hakuta Matrona. Lions Reach for Short King. Lion King, one of my kids' favorite movies. Bryce Young in Detroit is a school. Grand slam, Colin. In that dome, are you kidding me? With that offensive line, I think this makes more sense than Houston by a mile. Obviously, we discount Chicago.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Indianapolis is okay, but I actually think that there's a much better infrastructure in Detroit with this offensive coordinator, the receivers. You get Bryce Young on that team. Maybe you wait for him. He gains some weight and works off. It is interesting. Gough would have a market. You can move golf.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Goff has more of a market, certainly, than like a Daniel Jones. Oh, absolutely. Goff, you like him as like a what, a top 15 quarterback in the league? If you can move off of him and you insert Bryce Young in there, Colin, I'm telling you, did Detroit Lions become a legit contender? Because then you can spend money in free agency. Oh, no, no. Do we want to add DeAndre Hopkins?
Starting point is 00:33:54 We can do that. We've got a quarterback on the rookie deal. You're talking me into it, but I like Goff. But it is fascinating. I'm not anti-Goff. I just think the salary that he commands and what level he is of quarterback. Give me a rookie deal, God. Listen, if you reset the clock for the Lions, they don't have, the O lines, great.
Starting point is 00:34:12 They probably need a one receiver, but they're good. Well, say, Brown, I don't know, man. I like, they have two backs I like. They have an edge rusher. They need interior defensive line help, and they need another corner. Aidan Hutchison last year, incredible, yeah. You've got options when you've got that Rams pick from Stafford. You know, and I just mentioned Stafford, I know we did the headlines, but not a lot of talk about what's going on with the Rams.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Have you noticed that? A lot of teams, you hear a lot of chirps from reporters. The teams you want to think about, Colin, are the teams that reporters are not talking about. What about the Rams? What about them? I just, you've talked offline about this Stafford McVeigh stuff. He's not redoing his deal,
Starting point is 00:34:51 and the Rams want Stafford to redo his deal. If I was covering the Rams right now, I would be asking all the questions. Now, I haven't heard much from McVeigh lately, have you? Interesting. All the coaches that are talking a lot, it's lip service. The stuff, the people that are not talking, that's who you need to focus on. Something's going on with the Rams.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I don't know what it is, but they don't have a path to success next year, Colin. We would agree on that. Well, they got to move Jalen Ramsey. Okay, fine. Read, get a one and a five. By the way, remember last week Jalen Ramsey was like a big topic? Anything this week? Crickets on the Jalen Ramsey front.
Starting point is 00:35:25 He ain't getting a first. You're going to owe me a steak dinner, by the way. Did we bet a steak dinner on that? I'm almost certain we did. It doesn't two seconds. Two seconds does not equal a first. No way. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:35 I like seconds. All right. Very interesting show this week. Eddie House and Lance Zerlein both stopped by. We went to the Combine, and they went to Eddie House's house. And so tonight, I really did think the Warriors' second half last night, you can see it coming. You really can. They've figured out.
Starting point is 00:35:54 They've figured out. Sometimes injuries help. And Steph Curry out, this back court now, they got, that's the deepest back court I ever remember seeing. And they've got a defensive guy in Peyton, the greatest shooter. Clay Thompson catch and shoot. They've got like six different things they can do in the back court. From a TV viewing perspective, the NBA would love a Warrior's Suns. Warriors' Suns Western Conference Finals.
Starting point is 00:36:17 And they'll get it. KD. versus... I think they're going to get it. And then they would want a... Celtics, Bucks, right? In the East? Yeah. Yeah, I think Milwaukee's done a big market, but I think Janus... Yonis is a story. And also, it's going to be a seven-game series. I would take the Bucks over the Celtics and I would take the Warriors over the Sons. and then I think Milwaukee beats Golden State in the final, although I hate to say that. How about a Denver-Mefest Western Conference finals?
Starting point is 00:36:41 I think the basketball will be fun. I don't think it's going to get a number, but it'd be fun to why. But you're not fired up like game three. I got to put plans on with my friends because I got to watch Denver Memphis game three. We know three teams are going to be around in the end. Buck, Celtics Warriors, that we know. We can argue about the rest. Those three are going to be around.
Starting point is 00:36:59 All right. We'll see you Monday. Great stuff. Live in L.A. It's the Hurt. Another podcast from some SNL. late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
