Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
Starting point is 00:01:10 This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRedio.com
Starting point is 00:01:48 or stream us live every day on the IHart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Well, he played in the NFL for 10 seasons. Steelers and the Jets. Super Bowl champ as well, went to a little Hofstra and ended up being quite an NFL player. And now he's a co-host on the Cartons show. Willie Cologne is joining us here on a Friday. Long time, no talk.
Starting point is 00:02:16 So I want to start. I do want to start with the Jets. Because what's been interesting, and I said today, people wouldn't believe this. but in the 16 games Zach Wilson has started, he's now 9 and 7. And the key to him is, Willie, as you know, he's not throwing picks. And so I think they're going to go, I think they're going to win Monday night. You know the culture in the building pretty well. How do you think now Zach is viewed by teammates and in the building with his current winning streak?
Starting point is 00:02:49 Well, coming out of the locker room, everybody supports Zach. I think it's the outsiders like me who cover the Jets. and I do the Jets pre and post, I'm just at times on the fence about them because there's moments when you watch them, you're saying, okay, the kid is rise, arrived, if you will. He's poised in the pocket. He's only had one interceptions and five games.
Starting point is 00:03:08 But then there's times where I'm looking for the aha game. And it goes back to, go back to Pittsburgh game last year, right? At the fourth quarter, he lights it up. Prey's Hall has a big game. The team looks amazing. And then they kind of tank after that. And then you go this year against Kansas City, where I thought he was great in the second half of that game.
Starting point is 00:03:26 I'm like, aha, that's the Zach Wilson we've been looking for. And then you talk about the third down woes and not having, not being efficient in the red zone to no scores. Garrett Wilson, who's their number one receiver, only has two touchdowns on a year. And so I'm scrambling trying to figure out like, who is Zach Wilson? I'm ready to believe. And quite frankly, I just don't see it. And yeah, you can go back to last week game against the Giants. He had the bad sack in the early in that game, the sack fumble.
Starting point is 00:03:50 The worst sack of them all, it seems like a minute 26 on the clock. in the fourth quarter and he took a sack. That should have ended the game for the Jets, but it didn't. They were able to kind of rally and figure it out due to a missed kick and good note. Overall, I just don't know who Zach Wilson is. I'm waiting for the aha. He's our quarterback. He's the Jets. He's the future of the franchise.
Starting point is 00:04:09 And sure, there's a lot. There's going to be a lot of excuses for him. Did he play God awful? No. Was the offensive line of patchwork job? 100%. Could they run the ball? No. But as of right now, I struggle with believing in him solely. And so that's where I'm at. But I think the locker room believes him.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Robert Sala has stood on a soapbox and said he has unwavering faith for him in this offense. So we'll see. Should they beat the charges? Yes. But they should have blew out the Giants. And that didn't happen. Yeah. I want to ask you because Jason, Jets fan, brought up an interesting point is that they're really selling Aaron Rogers is going to play.
Starting point is 00:04:47 And Woody Johnson, you know, through the years has been a bit impulsive. Most of the owners are, billionaires get their way. and so that what Jason is saying is sort of the errand's going to play, it's just a positive vibe, nobody will get impulsive at the trade deadline, and that it's more salesmanship upstairs than it is reality. What are you hearing on Aaron because it would be a remarkable medical miracle if he could play? You know, Colin, I tour my Achilles, and I tore it during my time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. it was a very tedious and very dark time for me from an injury standpoint because it's really you really me at the time putting their towel on the floor grabbing marbles with my toes really just watching my team get ready for the season and actually went on Sunday as well I was on the sideline the fact that you see Aaron walk into the building with no boot he's throwing he's actually doing having drop back motions it is telling it is something to kind of be had it's actually more a morocurable but overall man what scares me about
Starting point is 00:05:51 thought this is if Zach doesn't do what he's supposed to do, are they going to start looking back and really try to get Aaron back out there? Because you have to realize Aaron's going to be here for the next two years. Overall, man, you have to feel like he is going to come back because he's showing you signs, but I wouldn't look for him. You want this process of him rehabbing to be safe. You want him to be smart because he is the quarterback for next year. He is the quarterback for the future.
Starting point is 00:06:16 And so I don't know right now, but there's a lot of optimism that he might come back. They don't have a timetable, but there's optimism that he may, you know, he may show up when they really need him. I like Mike Tomlin. I think he's a Hall of Famer, never had a losing season. But defensive coaches, Pete Carroll's like this, they want to win a certain way, run game, defense. And I think Mike had a little bit of a blind spot, Big Ben last five years. He wasn't up to snuff. He wasn't as efficient.
Starting point is 00:06:43 But Mike's vision is defense. And I think Kenny Pickett, they're winning despite him. I thought Will Levis looked far and just arm, confidence, throw, seeing the field. Is it fair to say that Mike's history and defensive might, you were in the building, is that maybe he's got a little blind spot on Kenny Pickett where, I mean, God, Willie, he's so bad in the first half.
Starting point is 00:07:05 You can't in the AFC play from behind four to five weeks. You just can't do it. Yeah, but the Steelers have outscored their opponent, 42 to 11 in the fourth quarter. He finds a way, and that's what Mike Tomlin does. it's not always going to look pretty. It's not always going to look great, but are you going to get the job done?
Starting point is 00:07:23 And Steelers have been able to get the job done at 5 and 3. And they're tied. They have the same record as at 49ers who beat them up in their own building. So I'm looking at Kenny Pickett. Is it great? No. He's definitely a timing issue with his receiving core.
Starting point is 00:07:39 He seems stagnant at times. We were sold in the preseason that he has arrived that he's going to be better this year. He hasn't been great. But when it counts most, he's been able to deliver and the team is winning. But the face of this organization right now and his team, this year is that defense. They've been spectacular.
Starting point is 00:07:53 They had four sacks yesterday. Alex Highsmith, who doesn't get enough credit, had two of those sacks. So Kenny Pickett, is he popping off the tape? No. Is there more ugly than good? Yes. However, they're winning. And at the end of the day, you don't count how you win, along as you win.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And they're sitting number two in the division right now. So you've got to be happy with that. So Cowboys face the Eagles. I think it'll break the record this year for the highest rated game. It's going to be interesting. And the reason I like Philadelphia is I do believe there are certain cultures in this league. Pittsburgh's got it. I think New England during Belichick Brady and Philadelphia has it.
Starting point is 00:08:31 In these big games, they don't always win. They never, ever fail to show up. Dallas, it's a coin flip. There is something about Philadelphia in these big games. I know they'll bring their A game. I really like Philadelphia here. We were asking this morning, if Dallas lost again a big game,
Starting point is 00:08:53 is McCarthy in trouble? What do you envision Philadelphia hosting Dallas? You know, it's interesting because the last couple of weeks we've seen a gimpy Jalen Hertz. But he's been producing. You're talking about A.J. Brown being an absolute monster out there. He's popped up the tape. He's looking absolutely outstanding.
Starting point is 00:09:11 He should be considered in the MVP category. What's interesting about the Eagles is something that when you watch the tape, they're just quite not clicking. I think they kind of get out of suits. And he goes back to the Jets game. When DeAndre Swift isn't running the ball, if he's not a feature back in that game
Starting point is 00:09:27 and they're kind of moving all over the place and he's not directly playing behind that office line. They seem unsettled. Overall, they have the pieces, right? That's what it is. They have what it takes. They got a security blanket and AJ Brown. You know you got DeVante Smith,
Starting point is 00:09:41 who's really good, had a great game last week. You talk about DeAndre Swift. He's doing a great job. And Dallas Goddard, I think he's the one aspect of their offense that they got to get going. They have the best office line of football. So they're going to be ready for the fight against the Dallas Cowboys. Dak pretty much owns them. We know the record, eight and three overall.
Starting point is 00:09:59 It's a matter of between the two quarterback, who shows up, right? Because I think Dak is at as healthiest right now. He has a lot of confidence coming off the two wins. You talk about Jalen Hurd, he's confident, but he is Gympie. It's going to be interesting. It's a matter of, it's going to be a war of attrition, especially in the trenches. Is it going to be the Cowboys defensive line versus the Eagles office a line? It's going to be this big-time offense line with Dallas being able to protect that so he knew what he'd do in the pocket with this Texas Coast offense.
Starting point is 00:10:25 And so we see what happens, man. But I think to your point, man, I think it's going to be get your popcorn sit on the couch or watch some high-outting football. Finally, Miami, Kansas City overseas. I just love watching Miami, but I don't trust him. I call him the speedboat of the NFL. In warm weather, it's going to be great. gets choppy you don't want that speedboat in the water i think kansas city off a loss will be totally focused they'll run the ball more do you buy miami fastest team in the league most motion most clever
Starting point is 00:10:59 most explosive but it's getting cold it's getting windy do you do you buy miami i do you man because i think two has arrived along with tyrie kill man they they're probably the best one to punch in all the football right now And I believe in the offense. They're averaging 30 plus points a game. They have the swagger. They have the moxie. They have that kind of flash that we fall in love with,
Starting point is 00:11:23 especially if you're a kid just growing to love the game. You want to be like the Tyreek Hill. You want to be the cheetah because at 5-10, he seems unguarded. You don't throw him to highlight tape. He's beating dvies and he's blowing the top off the coverage. So I believe in the Miami Dolphins, but there's a caveat, right? You lose to the bills, a Super Bowl contender. You lose to the Eagles.
Starting point is 00:11:44 another Super Bowl contender and you don't look great in both outings. So it's like, hmm, so this is another big test. Valid is in Germany, valid against the Kansas City Chiefs, but you've got to win this one. If you want to make people as a believer, you got to win this one against Kansas City Chiefs because you, to your point, they're going to be hungry.
Starting point is 00:12:00 They're looking at that tape against the Broncos where only Travis Kelsey is the guy that you say, they got a weapon. Outside of that, MBS, Sky Moore, Cadarist, Tony, you can't find him. And so now, and if you watch Travis Kelsey in a lot of his interviews, it sounds like there's a trust issue going on with Patrick Mahomes and its receiving corps.
Starting point is 00:12:17 They're not using Isaiah Pacheco like they should. And it's really just Mahomes and Kelsey carrying his team. I think the defense has been fine. But Chris Jones, you haven't heard a lot about him the last couple weeks. So I think this chief's team is going to be hungry. They respect the Dolphins. But I think this Dolphins team is legit. They got another big statement.
Starting point is 00:12:33 They got another big win to be had. Hopefully they get against the Chiefs. Good luck. Congrats on the Carton Show, continued success. Willie, have a great weekend. And thanks for stopping by and taking time for us today. I know you've got a family and a busy life. I appreciate it.

Dolphins at the Chiefs, Kansas City, overseas minus two and a half.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Andy Reid off a loss. Mahomes off a loss. Kansas City has a much better O-line and defense. They rebound, and I will swallow the two and a half points. Seahawks at the Ravens minus six. Better quarterback at home, better defense. I like the Ravens here. Ugly win over Arizona.
Starting point is 00:13:29 They're a tough, tough home favorite. I like them here to beat Seattle in cover. Bengals minus two and a half. I like them hosting the bills to cover. I think Cincinnati's defense is more consistent. Burroughs situationally at homes better than Josh Allen on the road. Three favorites, Chiefs, Ravens, Bengals, I'll take all of them. You want to take the herd parlay.

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J.
Starting point is 00:16:00 And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
Starting point is 00:16:24 We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Add it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A J-MAC with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, let's start with the Chicago Bears. Obviously, they will be looking at quarterback to the top of the draft, but an interesting report from Fox Sports Carmen Vitale is that Chicago could move on from Justin Fields and take a new quarterback.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Yep. I see this team moving on from Justin Fields. I've been saying that that's just kind of my inkling. That's my educated guess. I think that with the draft capital that they have, if you have the first or second pick in the draft, it'll be hard to say no to another quarterback to make sure that you can bring him in.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Don't forget Ryan Poles and Maddie Pruz are not responsible for bringing Justin Fields in. And you kind of want that continuity if you're going to keep these guys around. Yeah, I mean, I think, I don't even think it's a question. now, if you have two picks in the top five, you absolutely, if you can take Caleb or Drake May.
Starting point is 00:17:45 They're higher rated prospects than Justin Fields was. And then I think if you're smart, you trade back the other pick. And then with the other pick, you get your second round pick back. You gave up for Montez Sweat. You can get a ton for that second pick. So I think the Bears are actually in a, it's a great quarterback draft class. At some point, Matt Eber Fluse and Justin Fields, whoever you want to blame. You got to win games in this league.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Neither wins. Neither's beaten a winning record team. Coach quarterback. You got to move on. So how does this work with Fields? A, you just make him the backup, right? Nope. Move him.
Starting point is 00:18:21 B, you trade him. Yep, you move him, get a third round pick. Who's trading for Justin Fields? And what are they giving up? Justin Fields is very much Sam Darnold. You can put together an eight-minute tape. Sam Darnold won more than Justin Fields. Okay, but wait, no, no.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Hold on. I got a second. So let's just pick up team. Atlanta Falcons. We want Justin Fields. but they saw you're going to draft a quarterback. So they're not giving up anything important for Justin Fields. There's eight teams annually that need a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:18:48 I think his highest highlights will get him a second chance. A lot of guys get second chances. I mean, Dallas rolled the dice on Trey Lance, and Kyle Shanahan makes quarterback's works, and he, despite all of it, they bailed up. Dallas gave up a fourth round pick for Trey Lance. Justin Fields has played in games, won games, and looked spectacular. you're going to get a third round pick for Justin Fields. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:19:13 So, okay, that's what I was just looking up. What did they get for Trey Lance and it looks like a fourth? Yeah. And by the way, there was never a moment that you're like, wow. I mean, Justin Fields there has been, I said, Sam Darnold got a second chance. Baker got a second chance. Since you brought up, I've totally forgotten about Trey Lance.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I don't even know if he's active or the backup or whatever. Who's got a better chance to, like, actually have a career, Justin Fields or Trey Lance? Justin. Really? Yeah, Justin can play. in this league. I think if you gave an offensive coach, there'd be moments.
Starting point is 00:19:43 There'd be, you know, again, he's a bit of a YouTube quarterback where the YouTube stuff is amazing, but this league is all about consistency. It's not about spectacular. I mean, I would go in for a low ball. If I'm the Falcons or... Fourth round pick. Here's a fifth for field. I would give up a fifth and a six.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Oh, I would absolutely give up a fifth and a six for Justin. I just, is there a robust market? Like, a multiple teams in the end of field? Well, it doesn't need to be a robust. There's there a robust market for Derek Carr and he got a 150 million. Whoa, whoa. There wasn't a robust market.
Starting point is 00:20:13 He's like a six or seven year veteran. I mean, I know the wins weren't there, but he's a... Well, the wins weren't there. And you make $150 million? Well, he was on that dumpster fire of a franchise that just fired another coach. Like, oh, Justin Fields on a dumpster fire of a franchise. Fair, okay. He's going to get a second chance.
Starting point is 00:20:29 He's got too much talent, size. Somebody, I would give up a fourth round pick tomorrow for Justin Fields. Get him in my room. Give him a chance. Listen, I've said Mac Jones, deserves one more year with a good offensive coach. You don't think Justin Fields does? Well, that's weird.
Starting point is 00:20:45 We're totally opposite on this. I would give up, you know, fifth and a sixth for Justin Fields. I wouldn't trade anything for Mack Jones. I don't even want him. Given the stuff we've heard, I don't even want him near my team. I just don't think there's any value. Well, I think Justin Fields is better in the room than Mac Jones. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:58 Mac ticked off his coaches, ticked off teammates. Given what we know, how do you think he's going to handle being a backup quarterback? Like, is he going to hold a clipboard and be silent and be good with that? Who, which one? Mac, Mac Jones? No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:21:08 Okay. Next story, Devante Adams has been frustrated all season, but it seems like the vibes in Vegas are trending upward after canning Josh McDaniels. Devante Adams spoke yesterday about the move and broke down why now was the right time. Don't get it confused. It's not a celebration that we have a new coach
Starting point is 00:21:28 and there's been changes made. We obviously, I think it was time. One way or the other, it was time for some sort of change just to bring a little juice in and, you know, revitalize the team a little bit. So I think that's kind of the mindset we're having, just trying to have fun and enjoy our time in this building. Because I think, you know, as we speak to each other,
Starting point is 00:21:47 it's been too much of just this has just been feeling like work too much and not having enough fun. As I've said, countless times I want to be a Raider, so I want to try to make this work and do everything I can to keep it going now. James Jones on our show yesterday, who works the pregame post-game show for the Raiders, said he was not surprised by the moves. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And he's connected to players. It was time. Raiders, giants may make an appearance in headlines coming up. I can't believe you bet games like that. Why? It's unwatchable. Well, if you could find an edge, you got to make the bet. And I'll tell you the edge here in the next, well, 10 minutes.
Starting point is 00:22:23 How did you do last week? I was 2.1. 2 and 3 in the contest. Here's the frustrating thing. Nobody cares. At the contest, I'm spinning my wheels, but I have won six of eight weeks money. My picks on Fox Sports.com, similar to this, I'm like 57%. They document it.
Starting point is 00:22:37 So, like, I'm doing well, just this freaking contest, man. Hey, by the way, they want you to enter next year. Who's who? Who's who? It's his Vegas contest. You have to sign up in Vegas. It's like $1,000. What's the casino?
Starting point is 00:22:49 Circus sports. They're going to make me pay? Okay, let's move on. I would say it's the contest, the herd play. Oh, maybe we should have our own contest. Hey, I'm like James Hardin. I am the system. You're the system.
Starting point is 00:23:02 By the way, the winner gets a million bucks. What? Yeah. Well, there's 5,000 people in it. 4,000 are meatheads. At least I'd be in the top thousand. I love it. They have this on in the casino when I go to sign up.
Starting point is 00:23:14 It costs $1,000 to join. Oh, is this Derek Stevens casino? There's multiple, there's two different casinos to do it, but he does one, yes. Oh, yeah, yeah, I like him. You're a man of the people. I like him. Kind of like you, man of the people. Final story.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Last row of Southwest Airlines. Yes. Leonard Fortnett, remember playoff Lenny? He signed with the bills earlier this week. After playing his entire career in Florida, the Super Bowl champ was not ready for that cold, that cold buffalo weather after his first practice. Leonard Fortinet tweeted out, no lie. Buffano cold, buffalo colder than a penguin bleep out here.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Lord. Well, he played Louisiana, LSU, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville. Yeah, it's a little cold. I didn't even hear about this signing. I didn't even hear about it. Yeah, you got to keep up on it. I mean, it's not like he's taking Cook's job. Cook is good.
Starting point is 00:24:04 You know, this just reminds me. I'll never forget. We were living in Brooklyn, and my wife was doing medical sales. She was traveling to Buffalo a lot. She comes back, she's like, Buffalo is beautiful. We could move up there. And I was like, are you crazy? Like, do we need to break up?
Starting point is 00:24:18 Like, I'm not doing that. That's like not even on the table. You almost broke up with her. Over Buffalo? Well, she wasn't serious. But my wife used to have to travel around in sort of that cold weather jet stream area. She loved Buffalo. She said nicest people in the country in Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:24:34 I'm sure, but six months of work. winter, can you handle that? Yeah, I love Chicago. Oh, that's right, you like skiing and outdoor stuff in the winter. Yeah, nature, crazy. Nature. Frostbite, gloves, long johns, hand warmers, toe warmers, no thanks. I go to the beach, it's like a backpack. I pack for Hawaii, give me a backpack, I'm good. A couple trunks and tank tops. You know, when the world comes to an end, you'll be looking for me, because I'll be rugged and can handle it. Listen, you're probably right. You're more rugged than be. You're a rugged individual. A J. Mack with a news. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Hey, we're Kavino and Rich. Fox Sports Radio every day, 5 to 7 p.m. Eastern. But here's the thing. We never have enough time to get to everything we want to get to. And that's why we have a brand new podcast called Overpromised. You see, we're having so much fun in our two-hour show. We never get to everything. Honestly, because this guy is over-promising things. we never have time for. Yeah, you blubberlips. Blame and me. Well, you know what? It's called Overpromise. You should be good at it because you've been Oprah Promising Women for years. Well, it's a Kavino and Rich after show, and we want you to be
Starting point is 00:25:46 a part of it. We're going to be talking sports, of course. But we're also going to talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue on our after show called Overpromised. Well, if you don't get enough, Kavino and Rich, make sure you check out Overpromised, and also uncensored, by the way. So maybe we'll go at it even a little harder.
Starting point is 00:26:04 It's going to be the best after show podcast of all time. There you go. Overpromising. And remember, you could see it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to Overpromised with Kavino and Rich on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
Starting point is 00:27:10 This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment. And the next, we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me
Starting point is 00:27:37 or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right what you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Starting point is 00:27:55 Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:28:18 To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:28:41 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Make sure you play this week's Fox Super 6, free-to-play game. Download the Fox Sports app and enter for free for a chance to win your share of $10,000 in weekly. Cash, prizes. All right, J-Mac, week nine of the NFL season. You are doing some classic dumpster diving on some of these picks.
Starting point is 00:29:13 These are a lot of games where you would have to pay me to watch. Unfortunately, sometimes in my career, I am paid to watch, so I'll have to watch all of these junkyard messes. Are you ready to go? Oh, I'm so sorry. All right. We call it tomorrow's headlines today. Prediction time, Dolphins Against the Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Amazing game. It's in Germany. I'll be waking up early. We're not going out Saturday night too hard, right? We're in bed by like nine so I can wake up early. The headline will be. Ik bin Ein Frankfurter. Germany adopts K.C. Give me the chiefs here, Colin. Listen, when you could get Patrick Mahomes under a field goal, I mean, you got to do it, right? He's 196 and 1 when favored by less than three. Mahomes is just awesome. Usually you've got to pay that tax and he's favored by a touchdown or whatever. and by the way, Tua, as an underdog, only 5 and 13 against a spread, as we've talked about, they're a front-running team.
Starting point is 00:30:06 They play bad teams. They're going to put it on them. I love the matchup of Chris Jones against, if he plays, the backup center for Miami, Eichenberg, the young kid from Notre Dame. He's graded out as the 38 out of 38 centers. Chris Jones should dominate him. Keep an eye on Travis Kelsey. We saw Darren Waller and Dallas Goddard both eat against his Dolphins linebacking Corps. That's not great. I like the Chiefs to win.
Starting point is 00:30:28 I also like them to run the ball more this week. Get a little more centered and less ad-living offensively. Tomorrow's headline today. Oh, good God. Cardinals Browns. You don't want to watch Clayton, too? I mean, the return of Deshawn Watson? You're not excited?
Starting point is 00:30:45 Come on, Colin. The headline will be. That's ball, folks. Browns cancel Looney Tune. We got Miles Garrett there. This could be a Miles Garrett lockup defensive player of the year award. I mean, listen, Arizona can't block anybody. A lot of people will look at last week's result.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Remember Arizona covered against Baltimore with the fluky stuff. They were getting battered all game. They were covered the onside kick. All these people are excited. Folks, no, the Browns are the side. This has like 276 written all over it. I'm curious what Deshawn Watson does. This is a tune-up.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Ravens next for the Browns. They're not going to get caught looking ahead here because Watson's back. But I think this is a smash spot. Lines 8 and a half. Usually I don't like laying big favorites. This is one I feel confident in. Well, we both laid the lions. 90 night football and covered. I hate big favorites. I have the Saints this week.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Yeah. Are you worried about Clayton Toon coming in the back door? No, exactly. Doors locked. Tomorrow's headline today. Now this one I consider Chase Young, Montez, sweat, commanders moving off pieces. This one I thought about commanders, Patriots. Remember I came here last week I said the Patriots would like beat the dolphins and they were competitive until Mack Jones did what Mac Jones does. The headline this week will be Old Mac Mac Donald had an arm. No, I-N-T's throne. Mack Jones finally gets his act together.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Colin, man, the Patriots have killed me this year. But what's the vibe like in Washington? You know, we're trying to get psychological with these guys. They just trade their best two pass rushers. They knew guys who come in have barely played this season and not done well. And remember, Mac Jones, he's done okay the last few weeks. He's moved the ball. It's just that can he avoid these brutal turnovers in the red zone?
Starting point is 00:32:24 The Jalen Ramsey picked last week was a killer and inside the two minute warning. I just, this Washington secondary has been torched all season. Yes. I think Romandre Stevenson in line for a game. If you do fantasy, and I know everybody does, keep an eye on the young kid Douglas, a small diminutive receiver with Kendrick Bourne out.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I think Douglas goes in. I picked him up in fantasy. He should go off. I like the Patriots to win in cover here. This one is, I love your loyalty to gambling. Tomorrow's headlines today. Yuck. Giants against the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:32:58 I mean, the storylines here are tremendous. I mean, you got the new coach, Antonio Pierce, who used to play for the Giants. You got the coach fired, the GM fired, the offensive coordinator can, new quarterback. How are you now fired up? The headline will be Aiden and a betting. Vegas Gamble pays off.
Starting point is 00:33:15 You know, Davis is going to get all excited. But we just did it in Herdline, but like the vibes are good in Vegas. They installed a mini hoop in the locker room. People are like having fun. they were talking about walking on eggshells around McDaniels because he knew his job was on the line. Now you get the rookie quarterback in there.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Let's open up the offense. By the way, the Giants' cornerbacks, Zach Wilson took advantage of Adory Jackson last week. You don't think Devante Adams and Jacoby Myers are going to go off? I like the Raiders here. I bet the money line. I mean, Daniel Jones is back and he could do okay. But Sequin Barclay had 34 carries last week against the Jets.
Starting point is 00:33:50 I mean, listen, I like Seekoine Barclay as a person. That's insane. That's insane. and the following week after 30 carries, the injury potential ramps up, so I'm worried about him. I like the Raiders here, Colin. And you're not going to really watch that
Starting point is 00:34:02 because Eagles, Eagles, Cowboys. I mean, I have it on a TV, but I just said, ugh. I watched 24 punts, Jets Giants, Giants. I'm done with the Giants for the season. Lastly, huge AFC matchup. Sunday night, Bill's Bengals, take your time. This is a good one.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Now, last week I stood up here, I said, Bengals, Borough, we got to go with them. against the Niners. They delivered the headline will be WKRP in Winsanati. Bengals, dial in a win. This is to your 70s roots. This is a big show. None of our audience knows what that is. Anyways, it was a cool show back in the day. Lonnie Anderson, who has a lot of fans, as you can imagine. Yeah, okay, let's get back to football. Last year, Colin, I looked this up. Burrow, remember he had the appendectomy last year? Yeah. And it took him a little while to get
Starting point is 00:34:50 rammed up. Second half of the season, 8 and O. Dominant. Huge. Huge. Huge. huge offensive numbers. Slow start this year. What did we see last week? He had, are you ready for this? 14 rushing yards in the first six games combined. Not really mobile. Had 43 rushing yards against the 49ers.
Starting point is 00:35:05 Joe's back. I think, I think this Buffalo team could get worked here. Remember, since they lost Milano and Tredavius White. Yeah, it's different defense. They haven't faced anybody. They faced Tyrod Taylor. They faced Baker Mayfield and Mack Jones. And Mac Jones, like, move the ball.
Starting point is 00:35:20 Patriots were effective. Now he faced Joe Burrow. T. Higgins, Jamar Chase, Joe Mixin, like, I would not be shocked if the Bengals put up 40 points here and sent a real message. This Bill's team, they're not very good.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Everybody wants to say, well, your priors on the bills from earlier this season and coming in. I think you've got to toss some of that out. Like, Von Miller, have you seen the numbers? It looks like he almost rushed back and he shouldn't be playing. He's not doing anything. I couldn't, I will say this.
Starting point is 00:35:47 That felt a little desperate for me. So the Rams got him, got a Super Bowl, moved off him. remember the day they signed Von Miller. We both looked at each other and went. Like, if he had two more good years left, you'd be, he got a lot of money. That felt a little desperate by the bills.
Starting point is 00:36:06 His height, I think last year was it the, it was maybe a mid-season game against the Niners or Chiefs or somebody, oh, Chiefs, and he had a good game. And that's why you get Von Miller. Then he kind of broke down and he hasn't done anything. So the pass rush is anemic. We don't know if Rasul Douglas is going to play. I haven't seen if he practiced today.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Secondary is not great. Like, this is going to be, of those games where if you want to bet the Bengals to win the Super Bowl, do it now before they open a can on Buffalo and are like, oh, this might be the team to beat. I'll predict. They're number one in the herd hierarchy Monday. Cincinnati? Yeah, that's my prediction. Do you think Baltimore's losing to Seattle? I didn't pick that game specifically. Every single thing I see on the internet is, oh, Ravens, Ravens, Ravens. No, no, the wise guy, the numbers historically, you take the Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin and the Seattle Seahawks with Pete Carroll as underdogs over a
Starting point is 00:36:53 field goal. You just take them. I'm going to sidestep Seattle here just because they burned me and in Sensi a few weeks ago. It was three. They lose by four. Like I was ticked. So we've already had one coach fired and I'm dead serious here. If the Chargers with that roster and that quarterback go to New York and lose.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Fired? Let's see how the game goes. If he blows a fourth down call or something dumb late in the game and the Jets come out to win. Minimum four coaches, new coaches every year, and that's 33 years, I think. Minimum four coaches, the average is six.
Starting point is 00:37:27 It's often seven. So McDaniels, Raiders have flushed it. I think the Chargers have to make the playoffs. That I know for sure. They've got to make the playoffs. They've got too many good players. Too much money spent. I'm with you on Jets. Remember we talked
Starting point is 00:37:43 about him a while ago. Corey Lindley, the great center, since he's been out, the backup clap, I mean, he can't block anyone. And now he's got to block Quinn and Williams. I think the Jets are the side. She's a little nervous about Zach Wilson in prime time.
Starting point is 00:37:57 You know, the whole scene ghost thing. Well, remember the Zach Wilson against the bills in prime time. He didn't win that game for him. Nobody won the game. Come on. He got the wins. The quarterback wins are not a stat. We know this. Well, the best quarterbacks win. I'm always a little pushback.
Starting point is 00:38:13 Also, sorry, Josh Allen won the game for the chance with four interceptions. Yes. That's interesting. Save money this holiday season. Starting point is 00:38:36 Good stuff today. College football this weekend. It's on Fox. Texas plays Kansas State. I do think Texas wins. We kept saying upset alert Kansas over Oklahoma. But I think the two games this weekend, Texas I think beat Kansas State close. USC Washington, you're watching two of the best three quarterbacks in college football,
Starting point is 00:38:56 Michael Pennix and all those NFL receivers for Washington against Caleb Williams, Lincoln Riley. Who you got? I told you, I don't think USC matches up with them. I'll just say this. I think USC plays really well. I don't know if. I think Washington's the better team. But this feels like everybody gather around the coach and the quarterback because they're not beating Oregon next week.
Starting point is 00:39:20 USC's not going to Ottson and beat Oregon. not happening. In fact, I think they get hammered. But I have a feeling off, I mean, they're just disjointed. I think they rally around this week, and I think Lincoln and Caleb have a little bit of a flex. I think
Starting point is 00:39:36 it is one for the ages. It's tough to bet on USC right now with that defense being, I mean, I don't want to say it's high school level, but they can't do anything. Cal went up and down the field against him. Oh, I watched. Believe it was nothing. I would go Washington Money Line line maybe on that one. I think it's the lines two,
Starting point is 00:39:52 two and a half or something like that? I don't know. Listen, you could very easily, and I wouldn't dissuade you from betting that. I think USC will play one of its better games. That may not be enough. That's where I'm at. Washington's the better team.
Starting point is 00:40:06 All right, we'll see you Monday. Be safe. It's the herd. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
