This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

All right. Here we go. It's our three, one.
We are live in Los Angeles.
It's the hurt.
Wherever you may be.
However you may be listening.
All right.
A lot of stuff.
A lot of mock drafts coming out.
A lot of discussion.
A lot of quarterback stuff.
J. Mack joining us.
I would not have signed Daniel Jones to that contract.
And I would not give Lamar Jackson a fully guaranteed contract.
So I want to explain something.
I'm going to go on a rant here.
Okay.
I see this mistake made all the time by young media people who have not had that many contract negotiations.
Let Uncle Colin tell you how it works.
You're going to get paid by bosses on what you are now and going forward.
Nobody cares what you did in college.
Congrats on Harvard.
Nobody cares.
Nobody cares what you did three years ago.
The bosses upstairs want to know, what are you now?
what are your numbers now, and what do they think your momentum is going forward?
So Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback ever, became a free agent out of New England.
He could choose, right?
Two teams.
Chargers bucks offered.
Why?
Goat, MVP, Super Bowl a couple years ago.
Because they knew what he was, but they really weren't sure what he was going to be.
It was like 44.
the goat.
But Lamar, three years ago, the numbers were different.
They know what he was.
What is he now?
Unavailable a lot.
And what is he going to be?
Perhaps unavailable a lot.
I would pay for Lamar.
But if you're not guaranteed to play, I'm not guarantee in every dollar.
Aaron Rogers has never had a guarantee.
fully guaranteed contract.
Aaron Rogers.
Momentum's a real thing.
I like Lamar a lot and would give him a deal.
But he's such a unique player and has such a unique style.
You've got to kind of build the whole franchise around him.
He's the opposite of KD, plug and play anywhere.
He's not.
Got to get the right OC, right offensive line,
the right stylistic offense form.
And that's fine.
more did it.
But I hear this stuff.
But he did this and he did that.
And he did this.
Needed this.
He did that.
In the last three years, he'd been banged up twice.
Passer ratings regressed.
We've seen him in the playoffs where he's got more interceptions than touchdowns.
We've got new information.
Some of you guys are like, you're like kids that still collect baseball cards.
The card's over.
What's the player like today?
Because that's what I'm paying.
I'm paying today dollars.
I like Lamar.
I'd pay Lamar.
And the Jets may guarantee.
guarantee him fully because they're desperate. That's okay too. I'd be happy for Lamar. I'd be happy for
the Jets. But the Ravens aren't the Jets. They got high standards. They're not desperate. And I say this
with Daniel Jones. I would not have paid Daniel Jones that for the same reasons. What is Daniel
Jones today and what do I think he's going to be? Just keep asking yourself that question.
What is Daniel Jones today really average? What is that? What do I think he's going to be going forward?
maybe slightly better than average.
I can't pay in that contract.
Josh Allen, what is he today?
Available, productive, and great.
What do I think he's going to be going forward?
Really talented, available, productive, and great.
He may not win Super Bowls, but he's always there.
He's always productive.
Feet arm.
He's always, always available on Sunday.
Mahomes, what is he now?
Amazing.
What is he going forward?
Available and amazing.
Those are.
the questions and health becomes a big part of it. I usually, I was a Kyler Murray guy. I think I was
wrong. I've been a pro-Lamar guy. But when I, when I see the media, a lot of people are like,
oh, what, he did that and he did? Nobody cares. Momentum is a real thing. Jim Harbaugh had it at
Michigan early, lost it, and they asked him for a pay reduction. Now he's regained it. He gets whatever
he wants. Nick Saban, got it at Alabama.
Who lost to Auburn, lost it for an hour, gained it back.
He gets whatever he wants.
Momentum is a real thing.
In my business, I could say, hey, three years ago, my ratings, two years ago, you know what they care about?
What were they this year?
What are they now?
And Lamar Jackson now last 22 games, not available for 10 of them.
That's a thing.
So what is he now?
Injured and slightly regressing, I think.
what is he going forward?
I fear that he's regressing and won't be available.
So he's worth something.
But just because Deshaun Watson got a guaranteed contract, so what?
Kirk Cousins did years ago.
Even though Kirk Cousins got a guaranteed contract.
You know who didn't get one right after that?
Aaron Rogers, because the Packers aren't the same franchise as Minnesota.
They got Super Bowls.
They got high standards.
They weren't going to do it.
So Deshawn Watson got a guaranteed contract.
like Kirk Cousins. Cousins and the Vikings got hammered for that guaranteed contract.
Remember, we all said they paid him too much, you can't guarantee it.
But Minnesota needed a quarterback.
Cleveland, what did we say?
I'd have never paid Deshawn Watson that and I wouldn't have guaranteed it.
Cleveland's desperate.
So why does everybody else, nobody follow the Vikings on cousins?
Why has everybody got to follow the Browns on Deshawns?
If they don't set the market, they're the Browns.
So you just, you know, the other one that I think, I was thinking about this this morning,
that if you really get down, if you look at the history of like coaching jobs,
a lot of times you can just reverse a coaching record.
And it tells a totally different story.
So if I say, oh, a coach was, you know, he was 25 and 10.
What if he had two great years?
Because the previous coach gave him a quarterback moment.
men, I'm in a good roster. You see this in college all the time. You see this in college all the time.
We have a legendary coach. They hand it to the longtime assistant. I've seen this happen at Washington
with Jim Lambright, Oregon State Jimmy Anderson basketball. Mark Helfrich took over for Chip Kelly.
So you look at the record of Mark Helfrich and you're like, how do you not, how do he lose his job?
So he takes over the momentum of Chip Kelly, the players of Chip Kelly, the system of Chip Kelly. Win, win, win.
and then you see slow erosion, and then at the end, you're like, it's not the same program.
So when did the coach win?
How did he win?
Was it win early, or is it slowly building?
If you took Lamar Jackson and you flipped his career and he won the MVP this year,
now Baltimore, you got to keep him.
But he didn't.
He won it three years ago, and things are changing.
More injuries, regression, no playoff success.
So I hear this.
all the time about, well, he's got this award and that award.
That is yesterday.
That's three years ago.
That's not basically ask yourself this.
If you are signing a quarterback, ask yourself three questions.
Number one, are they productive and available?
Number two, are they ascending?
And number three, you know, do they stay at like the news?
That's what Green Bay is struggling with Aaron Rogers.
He's no longer ascending and he's always in the news.
Now, he is available and productive.
But Lamar, he's not available and not as productive.
People question if he's ascending.
There's a lot of noise around him.
Baltimore's thinking, we love him, but we got an O for three going on here.
And so momentum matter.
Like, I would have never paid Daniel Jones because I just don't think, I don't think he's ascending.
I think this is what he is.
Now this is what he is.
And later, it's mostly looks like this with slight ascension if he gets a better receiver.
So, you know, Mark Slareth was on earlier, and we talked about this.
I can like a player.
I can like an employee.
But now I'm going to fully guarantee a massive contract.
You can think two things.
I like that guy.
I'm going to sign him for that.
And I'm not guaranteeing everything.
Mark Slarith earlier.
When Joe Flacko got injured and Lamar took over, they completely changed that offense.
And I remember talking to Joe Flacko about this going, well, you know, people have criticized
you for not really mentoring Lamar Jackson.
He goes, this is an offense.
I don't even know.
He's like, what am I going to tell?
He goes, what am I going to tell Lamar Jackson?
Yeah, what I would do on this when you're running quarterback counter?
Like, what if I ever run a quarterback counter?
Like, it doesn't work, so I don't know anything about this office.
And they created this collegiate run first, quarterback run, play action off of that offense.
I think the other teams are looking at this going, hey, if we get Lamar, do we have to change our
in complete style. We don't have the personnel to change that.
Like there are a lot of questions that you would have to ask yourself if you're a
GM or if you're a head coach. Yep, a lot of momentum.
Contracts are not just about what you did. It's about what you are now. What are you going
for? You start guaranteeing anything. I want guarantees too. If I'm guaranteeing you
that, you've got to guarantee me something. You're going to be available 15, 16, 17 weeks?
They're worried about it.
I do love this Lamar back and forth.
You like it a lot.
We were talking during the break.
I started to look into the Ravens last year
because you keep saying Lamar was not good.
He's unavailable.
That's not what I said.
Okay.
Let's go back.
He's very good.
But he is unavailable.
That's a thing.
So when he was healthy last year,
they were seven and three in week 11.
Seven and three.
I looked at all those top five.
I'm sure they were top five in the herd hierarchy.
Lamar was healthy.
And what was he working with?
with. Remember, J.K. Dobbins was hurt. The running back room was decimated. They were pulling guys out
of Amazon trucks to carry the football behind Lamar Jackson. Wide receiver, they lose Hollywood Brown.
Their leading receiver last year was a guy named Demarcus Robinson, who they yanked out of
Kansas City, like the sixth stringer. They were so desperate for offense that they called
Deshawn Jackson, who was virtually retired. Lamar Jackson's looking around this locker room.
He's got nothing, yet he dragged that team, Colin, to seven and three.
midway through the season.
On top of the standings.
They had beaten the Bengals and Joe Burrow.
What happened after that?
He got hurt.
So he gets injured against Denver.
By the way, their losses, they lost by four to Miami, fluky game.
Fluky.
They lost by three to Buffalo, four to the Giants.
Very close losses, which we value year to year.
We know close losses usually flip.
Man, if you're a Jets fan, close losses mean something.
Oh, the Minnesota Vikings.
So I had no idea, first of all, thanks.
I had no idea the NFL was a 10-game season.
I mean, now that I know that, it changes everything.
But basically, the context for the Ravens last year was,
this team was pretty damn close with not a lot of talent around Lamar.
We saw the Eagles go out and get A.J. Brown for J. Browne for Jalen Hertz.
We saw Tyreek Hill get added to Tuatua.
Lamar's on his rookie deal saying,
you got me to Sean Jackson? He's 37.
Lamar was just paid this year, guaranteed money fifth year option.
They are offering to franchise tag him and guarantee another year.
back to back. The I and the contract they're offering has guaranteed money, lots of it.
This idea that they're like, take it or leave it, nothing guaranteed. Last year, Lamar
guaranteed, franchise tag guaranteed. They're offering also, they've made him an offer with a lot
of guaranteed money. I wouldn't guarantee it all for Lamar. I'm not doing it. By the way,
though, everybody, NFL's a 10-game season. Roger Goodell had no idea. They were rolling
with Lamar. Rolling. Miami was rolling. Then Tua got hurt.
So nobody cares about rolling.
Do you think that Lamar, it would have been happier with the big franchise tag, the exclusive for $45 million, or he's happy with this so other teams can come and maybe get him?
If I believed in myself, I like the non-explicit.
I do.
I would agree.
I wouldn't be upset.
But again, he doesn't have an agent.
So he's getting very emotional.
An agent would say, I just talked to my agent yesterday.
Agents talk you off to Cliff all the time.
It's like, no, this is good news, not bad.
So if he had an agent, he'd be like, dude, non-exclusives are your ally.
Go to the market.
he probably looks at it and think you don't love me so again that's why you have agents to talk you off the
edge artists Lamar's an artist do you think his agent is when you I'm sure you know the answer
do you think his agents on the phone with the Ravens sorry not the Ravens the Falcons and the jet
I know that's the problem who's negotiating for him who's on his behalf pumping him up his mom
and there's a story out that now he's doing it's like that's not I'm I've been doing this for years
hire an agent. I got to pay them money. Why? Because I don't want to go upstairs and get
to feel terrible about myself. You think Kyle Pitts and Drake London are in Atlanta's going to
the front office and guys, can we please get Lamar Jackson? Washington and Atlanta?
Terry McLaurin going to Daniel Steiner, Daniel, please. If I said today, Lamar Jackson, Washington
totally changes the NFC. Pay him whatever he wants. I mean, literally this morning you'd be like,
okay, we got, we got ours. Philadelphia got themselves a challenge.
You saw the rankings yesterday for NFC quarterbacks.
Lamar is...
One, two, or three.
You one of them.
We talk about Super Bowl odds.
Washington would go way up because the NFCs...
I mean, I know San Francisco and the Eagles are the class.
Ask yourself if you run a franchise.
Does Lamar Jackson change the temperature in the room?
Atlanta, Washington.
Absolutely.
And oh, by the way, Daniel Snyder is selling the team?
Well, it's...
Who knows?
No, no.
He's going to be absolutely.
as the owner. Value of this team with Lamar Jackson
next five years is on an upward trajectory.
That's undeniable.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at a podcast.
I'm Sam Jek.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Daniel Jeremiah, NFL network analyst.
Great podcast, has a lot of insight as somebody who for years and years worked inside this league.
You were a scout for how many different teams?
Three teams, Colin.
Two and a half if you don't give the Browns the full credit for being a team.
During that period of time that I was there.
Sense of humor as well.
Okay.
So here's my knock on the Daniel Jones situation,
is that I think he's a pretty average quarterback who just got for two years a very elite
contract. Now, if the Giants had most of the pieces in place, I could stomach it. They got to
fix the O-line outside the left tackle. They got to fix the receiving court. They got to fix
tight end. So now you're asking me, with limitations on what I can spend, Daniel, to rebuild
the offense. I don't love this deal. I think the Mara family had a lot of impact here. What did
you make in the number and the deal for Daniel? Well, I think it's how you look at it, Colin. You know,
if you look at that two-year period, you're looking at that 40 number.
If you go to the three-year period, I believe it's like 37 and a half on the average.
And, you know, I always felt go back to the Kirk Cousins contract when he was going through his situation, he got paid.
And I want to say the number was 20 or a little over 20.
And everybody freaked out.
And I said, just wait.
A year from now when you see where this market is heading, you're going to feel good about it.
You won't feel quite as bad about it.
And I would argue in terms of how you allocate your resources, Colin, a couple things.
one, getting Daniel Jones done before the deadline allowed them to franchise tag Sequan
Barclay. So if Saquan Barclay would have got to the market, even though he's a running
back, the number he would have gotten would have been north of 10. Maybe it was another $3 million,
maybe it was another $4, $5 million. But by getting Daniel Jones done, they saved that $3, $4,000,
on being able to franchise Seqon. So I think those two things work together.
Yeah. Well, I hope they hit on some guys in the draft because, you know, the reality is their defense
is getting expensive and it's good.
So you predicted Aaron Rogers to the Jets.
We talked earlier, Daniel, that if they don't get him,
they may just get into the Lamar Jackson sweepstakes
because cars off the market, Brady's gone.
You don't want to get into a bidding war with Jimmy Garoppel.
Okay, the Texans, the race.
You don't want to be in a three-team bidding war.
Just pay the money for Aaron.
I don't know what they would do if they don't get him.
But here's my question.
When you look at their personnel and his personality and his talent,
does it work to you?
What does it look like?
Yeah, with Aaron and the Jets, I mean, you know, I don't know how anybody can know exactly
what you're going to get from Aaron in terms of the day-to-day personality and the buy-in.
In an ideal world, the Jets, they fly out, they meet with Aaron Rogers, and they say,
okay, you know, I know the way things, you know, finished up there in Green Bay, but this,
does this re-energize you here?
Go to a new team.
Can we count on you showing up to some of the off-season stuff?
can maybe you throw with some of these wideouts on your own so that we don't wait four,
five, six weeks for you to get in sync with all the new players you're going to be playing with.
If you can get that buy-in, even if it's for one or two years, I think I love it for the Jets from that standpoint.
You know, even if Aaron Rogers isn't what he was, he's plenty good enough with their personnel to be a playoff team right now.
So that's where I'd be comfortable.
Man, I would be a little uncomfortable if you get out there and you say, yeah, let me think about it.
Give me a week to think if I want to come join you guys.
and it drags on and then it's like, okay, I'll come, but I'm not going to be there for any of the
offseason stuff. We'll see when training camp starts. That would be a major red flag for me,
and I'd be a little nervous. Okay, so you were a scout for three teams. You have Bryce Young,
and I agree with you as the most polished ready-to-play quarterback. I agree. You have C.J. Stroud
second. I agree. I mean, we're kind of in line on that. There's the Anthony
Richard's situation.
So people compare him to Cam, and I'm like, time out.
Cam's one of the best college players I've ever seen, ever.
Vince Young, Cam, Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson.
They're guys that just Jamar Chase, they don't even look like college players.
Anthony Richardson,
somebody once told me, the great ones make hard look easy.
The ones that won't work, Zach Wilson, make the easy sometimes look hard.
there are times I watched Anthony Richards and I thought this is a throwout in the flat.
This is a layup.
Where are you?
You don't have him in your top three quarterbacks.
What is your gut on him?
Where are you on Anthony Richardson?
Yeah, you know, Colin, seeing him up close for the first time and putting your eyes on him
and then you start to see where some of this comes from because he is such a physical specimen.
The athleticism, you know, obviously we knew he was going to be very athletic.
But even then, you know, he was off the charts and all that stuff.
I thought in the workout, I thought he was a little bit more of a natural thrower.
Wasn't quite as stiff.
When you get guys that are muscled up, a lot of times they're very restrictive and stiff.
I actually saw some of that with Levice in his throwing workout.
I thought some of that stiffness showed up.
I thought Richardson was more loose than I anticipated.
So that was good to see.
And you can see the Utah game that everybody talks about.
You can go through some of these other games and you'll see, you know, the combination of drop passes
and ricochets that result in interceptions.
You can start making excuses.
but I made the same point you just did on Cam,
which was, let's just slow down now on saying this is Cam Newton.
That Auburn team that Cam Newton was on,
didn't have any NFL players really on offense.
I mean, that was Nick Fairly on defense, and that's about it.
And he, and he went undefeated, won the Heism and the SEC.
Yeah.
In the SEC.
So I'm pumping the brakes on that.
I would say, I mean, I was talking to somebody in the league this morning
brought up a great point, said maybe if he had stability at Florida,
where he had the same coaching staff, his time there,
maybe if they put him on the field immediately,
He said, I could have seen him developing into, you know, Lamar Jackson winning the Heisman
trophy.
In other words, they don't win the SEC, but he develops.
And there's so many wow moments that you can't ignore it.
And he could have been, you know, that type of a special player.
He just didn't have that structure.
He didn't have quite the surrounding supporting cast that he needed.
But that's the difference between him and camp.
All right, good stuff.
Daniel Jeremiah, host a Move the Sticks podcast, Chargers games, three-time scout, always great.
you have Jalen Carter off-field stuff aside.
I think we said this the other day.
I think Jalen Carter is a more dominant player than Will Anderson.
Jalen to me is just a body type that doesn't exist.
It's like every third year you get an interior delinement.
This class has three edge rushers in the top 10.
They're all going to be good players.
So you would take Jailen Carter number one.
Yeah, I mean, again, this is before everything that just went down.
you know, why we're at the combine.
So you've got to do your homework on him and figure out that situation and really get to know him.
But if we're just talking solely what you see on the field, I look at it this way, Colin.
A lot of times you talk about who would you want on your team?
I think it's helpful from a scouting standpoint to say, man, who do I not want to play against?
And for me, it's easier.
And he's a great player, but it's easier for me to game plan around Will Anderson or a really good edge rusher.
It's impossible.
When you get an Aaron Donald guy type in the middle, you get a Chris Jones in the middle.
those guys wreck your game.
There's nothing you can do about it.
And they ruin you in the run game and the past game.
And they're hard to find.
You've seen it with Quinn and Williams,
how what he's developed into for Jason's jets there.
Like this guy is that type of a player,
that type of a talent.
And I think that's just a harder thing to find.
Daniel Jeremiah, good seeing you.
Good to see you, bud.
All right, move the sticks podcast.
J-Mack with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, Colin. Let's get started with Kevin Durant.
You're a big KD guy.
What's not to love?
Love him.
Makes his home debut with the Suns tonight against Mighty OKC.
Oh, can't wait for that.
OKC just took down the Warriors last night.
So on a back-to-back, and now Kevin Durant coming into town.
Oh, and Kevin's arrested. That crowd in Phoenix is going to be nuts.
Come on Phoenix.
I'm going to bet Phoenix tonight. What's the line on that?
I could call it up for you a little later in this segment.
Phoenix rolls tonight.
Love him.
Phoenix is 3-0.
since acquiring KD.
They look like a title contender.
He's fitting right in 27, 7, and 4.
Career average.
He's literally, you get the exact same guy
every place he goes.
OKC, Golden State.
Brooklyn, Phoenix.
27, 7 and 4.
That's what you get.
Solid.
Here's Kevin Durant,
excited for the Phoenix crowd.
I'm glad I was able to get a couple on the road
to get my feet wet,
because I know it's going to be loud in there.
I'm looking forward to our fans.
I know they can't wait to see us out on the floor.
I'm watching tonight, baby.
Over college hoops?
Kevin Durant or some guy that's not going to get drafted.
Sons are favored by 13 and a half.
I'll roll with Phoenix.
You're laying the 13 and a...
Have I taught you nothing?
You don't lay double digits ever in anything.
Very risky, Colin.
13 and a half?
Hey, I live on the edge.
That's why I have an agent.
Talk to me off the ledge.
I'm on it all the time.
All right.
Next story is, how about power?
Gasol, the 12th Laker legend to have their jersey retired.
I feel like someone on our staff was a little surprised Gasol getting his jersey retired.
Listen, this guy was unbelievable with the Lakers.
Two titles with Kobe.
Such class.
You could argue.
After Shaq left town, if Kobe doesn't get Powell Gasol, there's no more titles.
He doesn't get any more titles.
Here's Powell Gasol last night on his place in Lakers history.
It's a common denominator is that I provided something valuable to the team to help the team win.
I wouldn't dare to compare myself with those great players.
You know, I have so much respect and honor.
Part of the reason I guess that I'm up there is because I helped the team significantly to win those championships.
You know, but in win those championships, you know, we wouldn't be sitting here.
You know, he's a classic example.
He's a really good player.
Memphis. I can remember where I was when this trade was made. I was on a plane, Alaska Airlines,
getting ready to fly to down to Mexico for one of the first times, first or second. I was on the
plane and I got a text and I saw the, I remember exactly, it was a window seat and I'm like,
they got Paul Gasol and they gave up, what? It almost read.
like, oh, the league's going to step in and say that's not.
I don't remember all the things, but I remember the Lakers were kind of floundering
because Kobe was like, get me out of here, and they get Pau Gassal.
And my friend who called me was a Portland Trailblazer fan, he goes, this is outrageous.
Somebody's got to investigate this.
This is outrageous.
Absolute heist.
I mean, they just stole him.
And he, again, nobody was watching Memphis at the time.
When you saw Gassal play with the Lakers, you're like, wow.
High IQ.
He's a great example of a guy.
that had he never played with Kobe and the Lakers,
he would have nobody would have ever understood how great he is.
That's why I think Bradley Beale should have left Washington
and Dames should consider moving off Portland.
Pal Gasol was always going to be a Hall of Famer.
You would have had no idea how good he was.
He was so good in key big games for them,
and he's just, I mean, last night was an incredibly emotional.
Passing, defense, scoring.
Just all of it.
All around good dude, yeah.
Great locker room guy.
He and Kobe were really, you know,
Kobe had battled with Shaq, so
Gasol was much more
less star power.
He and Kobe
appreciated Shaq, but they were just
such alphas. And then here comes
Powell Gasol with Kobe, and I think
Kobe always loved
Powell Gasol. Yeah, final story. Seattle
Seahawks signed Gino Smith to a three-year
$105 million
deal this week. Seventy-five million
in salary, an additional
$30 million is possible, and
incentives. Yesterday, head coach Pete Carroll talked about how Gino bet on himself.
When you guys get your chance and you really dig in, you'll see that it is, it is, you know,
leaning that way. We're counting on him coming through and doing the things that he was able to do
last year. And if he does that, he's going to get rewarded. And we know that if that, if he's
able to come back and do that, he's going to have a great season and we're going to be in great
shape. We're going to have a real chance to be at the best, at our best. So it is heavily
structured that way and
he's gambling a little
bit in that sense on himself
what
listen if they have another draft like next year
because they're going to load up I would guess
I think they need a center
and another receiver
but they could go they got two first two seconds
two force they could go heavy on defense
who are you more excited about the next
three years the Detroit Lions or the Seattle
Seahawks both no you got to pick
one well I don't want to pick one
I think they're both going to be
But we know the Niners are going to win their division.
Well, I think Pete Carroll.
The Lions could win theirs.
I don't think Seattle's winning.
I would trust Pete more than Dan Campbell.
Agreed.
Yeah.
And I also think, I'm, Seattle drove me crazy for the previous five years on draft day.
Draft weekend drove me crazy.
Their draft last year, and we called it on that Monday, we said that's going to be an
unbelievable.
That's going to be the best Seahawk draft in seven, eight years it was.
They got, they have so many picks now.
They can miss on several picks.
And they got Jamal Adams coming back, remember?
Remember him? Remember that guy? It's not healthy enough. Again, like him. Got to be available
on Sunday. By the way, they also get to play Arizona twice next year in the division. That's
two wins because Arizona is going to be very, they might be the worst team in the league.
And we don't know what's up with the Rams. I like Seattle can live. I think Seattle just,
they have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. I think they have ten draft
picks. Only two need to be on offense. I think they got to get better on the interior of the
line. And they need another wide receiver. Outside of that, they could draft 90,
defensive players.
Eight or nine defensive players.
They might be a playoff team next year.
Well, they were this year.
They were this year.
And all those rookies.
Everything fell right for them.
Now have an offseason.
I'm excited for Seattle.
Okay, that's fair.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jette.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Well, Tyler Dunn is a founder and a writer at go-longtd.com.
Covering the Packers, formerly at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel,
broken a lot of stories through the years on this.
At Ty Dun, D-U-N-N-E is his Twitter account.
So you have insight on this.
So the Jets, brass, goes to Malibu.
So let's start with this.
How much influence does Matt LaFleur?
We know Brian Guden Kuntz, Mark Murphy, there's no owner here, Aaron.
Matt LaFleur has to have some influence.
Doesn't he in this?
He does.
I think that's what's interesting too, Colin, is the organization of the Green Bay Packers,
it's different than what it was in 2008, right?
When Ted Thompson had that final say,
Ted Thompson had that conviction.
Ted Thompson drafted Aaron Love,
I'm sorry,
Aaron Rogers with his first ever draft pick,
and he stuck with him.
He had the conviction to do it.
Now you have Matt LaFleur reporting to Mark Murphy.
You have Brian Gutickens reporting to Mark Murphy.
I'll say this, though, everything I'm hearing,
they're on the same page.
GM, head coach, president,
they're ready to move forward with Jordan Love.
I think what's really important to remember two colonists, Matt LaFleur has been in constant dialogue with Steve Calhoun, a mentor, a personal quarterbacks coach to Jordan Love, all three off-season.
They've been talking.
They've been tracking his development, not only in the regular season, not only in these exhibition games, but in the off-season.
He's sending Calhoun specific drills to work on, specific fundamental points.
They're filming it.
They're sending it back to Matt LaFleafloor, as opposed to the communication between Green Bay.
and Aaron Rogers right now where it's, you know, some text messages in between his podcast appearances.
They're talking to Jordan Love and Steve Calhoun regularly.
So I think the head coach knows what he has in Jordan Love and he's ready to run his offense.
Finally.
Okay. Bob McGinn's a long time respected journalist.
He's now part of go longtd.com.
And he came out in a podcast and said they are really bothered by Aaron.
They feel they've been manipulated.
One of the quotes I saw from Mike Silver, a respect to.
the journalist was people in Green Bay thought Aaron, after he got the money, sort of packed it in.
Were you surprised?
I mean, obviously, this stuff is coming from the Green Bay side, not the Aaron side.
How angry are they?
How toxic is it?
Because these leaks aren't coming from Aaron's camp.
I mean, I think they're tired of it, right?
I mean, they appreciate the good times.
And they won a Super Bowl.
They won a lot of division titles, made the playoffs a bunch.
at this point, it has run its course.
What did Patrick Mahomes do with all of his new receivers?
He brought him down to Fort Worth, Texas,
came a crash course in the Kansas City Chiefs offense.
He worked with them in the spring.
That was not the case for Green Bay and their three rookie receivers
and bringing in Sammy Watkins and working with this offense.
And it showed it took until late November, early December for that passing game
to really start firing.
And I think that the offseason, and this isn't coming from me.
This is coming from players in Green Bay's locker room that I've talked to for stories at go along t.com.
It's not even a knock on error, but they said it would have been great to have gotten that work in over the offseason
because he is at his best operating off of instincts and feel and signals and audibles and getting them in the best possible play at the line of scrimmage.
It's what made Aaron Rogers so special when you've got Jordy Nelson out there, Devante Adams,
Randall Cobb before he got creaky and old.
You can go up there, see the same thing, and not even say a word, not even signal anything because you're just going to react.
A lot harder to do when you've got three rookies who have never played in the NFL, and you're not willing to work with these players.
So the Green Bay didn't like that.
They didn't think his legs were really under him.
Like they were years prior, he didn't really physically put in the work and the training that he did in the past before that, that contract that made him the richest player in the game.
So, yeah, I think that they're tired of all that.
And more than anything, though, I think the headline here is Jordan Love is ready.
Year 2 to year three, Jordan Love did put that work in.
And that was the genius of the draft pick all along.
Green Bay had two offenses within one.
You had the one offense that's competing for Super Bowls with Aaron Rogers, DeBonte Adams.
But then you had Jordan Love and A.J. Dillon and a younger core developing behind the scenes.
Granted, we haven't seen it beyond that Philly game, but he got first team reps the final month of the season.
He's taking shots downfield.
He's running the offense.
He's decisive.
I think they're confident to the point now where their decision is made.
They're moving forward with Jordan Love.
Everything else is a matter of semantics.
Letting Aaron know that he's reaching this decision on his own in a sense.
I think they're trying to massage and handle this delicately because of what he did for the organization.
But internally, they're moving on to Jordan Love.
And it's just a matter of getting some compensation, getting somebody else to pay some of that money.
I think they'll figure that out.
By the way, does Aaron have anything in his contract that gives him power?
Obviously, I mean, I read a story this week.
The Jets could pick up some of the contract.
They're obviously going to get something back for Aaron,
although it's probably not the haul you would expect.
Give me some insight on what do you think Green Bay would accept minimum from the Jets?
Well, if you have to pay less money, right, it's going to be a worse draft pick.
If you're taking on more money, it'll be a worst draft pick.
So it's not the three, four first round picks that you would have gotten the last two off seasons, right?
We talked about it.
Hey, that would have been the bold move.
And granted, you would have had a lot of angry fans showing up at 1265 Lombardi, you know, demanding their season tickets.
But that would have been the move.
They passed on their Russell Wilson trade.
I think right now, Colin, they're going to take what they can get.
I don't think that there's necessarily a price that's too low.
I mean, this is a four-time MVP.
This is a quarterback that will be ultra, ultra-motivated to prove to all of us.
He can still play.
Yeah.
You know, he made that clear to Aubrey Marcus, to Pat Mac.
Everybody, hey, I can still play at MVP level.
He's not going to retire.
I really believe he'll play.
So he'll be motivated.
You can talk yourself into Aaron Rogers, still giving you something for one year.
So that's the leverage Green Bay kind of has.
here is look, you've seen Aaron Rogers perform when we drafted Jordan Love.
He's going to be really motivated now.
Is it a first round pick?
Maybe second round pick?
Maybe that's more likely.
I would just be guessing.
I think Green Bay will take what they can get.
Finally, when do you think news will break?
Because Green Bay wants to move on this, I think, with free agency, pretty fast.
When do you think it happens in your opinion?
Bob McGinn or you, do any insight on that?
Aaron could let this thing drag on.
Really? He basically does have a no trade clause without having one with the threat of retirement.
He can just say, I don't want to go to that team. I don't want to go to that situation.
They need his blessing to pull this off. So does he want to take this through the draft?
Does he want to see what Carolina does in the draft? A team like that?
You know, where's Miami at with Tua? There could be a mystery team we're not talking about here.
Things are heating up with the Jets. I would think if they can figure out compensation that works.
It's the AFC.
You're following that Brett Farr blueprint again.
That makes all the sense all around.
But that's where Aaron Rogers does have some power here.
With that contract that he signed,
just an awful contract from Green Bay's point of view of failure on all fronts,
Aaron does hold the cards.
How long does he kind of want to jerk not just Green Bay around,
but all these teams?
If he loves Hackett, if he loves the Jets, that's going to work out.
They'll make it work.
But that's where Aaron Rogers does kind of have the final veto.
power here. All right, go longtd.com founder and writer Tyler Dunn, the latest on Aaron. He visited
with the Jets yesterday out here in California. As always my friend, good seeing you.
Great seeing you, Colin. Thanks for having you, man. Yeah, he does a good job on that.
He has insight. Bob McGinn, again, for years and years was a respected Milwaukee Journal reporter.
Then he retired. He works for him. And he had a podcast and he said, I think the word I saw was
disgusted with what they've been through. These are very proud people.
It's a great franchise.
The Packers draft and develop.
And I think they feel like somebody's kind of jerking their chain a little bit here.
And it's not fair.
It's very public.
They're being manipulated.
And I don't blame them.
I can see Aaron, once you get the bag, a lot of people, not everybody.
Brady never changed with the money, but a lot of people do.
Aaron's young, well, errands by billionaire, millionaire standards.
Young, rich, good-looking, never married, no kids.
he may be time. He wants to go out, play some golf, hang out. I mean, Aaron's, he's never been
built like a Manning, obsessed like a Brady. That's not who he is. He's a little bit of a jazz
musician. He's doing his own notes. Riffin, ad libin. He's not following the chart like everybody
else. So free agency starts in a week. Do you think the Jets said, hey, bud, we don't want to
put you on any pressure, but can you give us an answer in like 96 hours?
like by the end of the weekend?
Would you take, let me ask you this.
The Jets say, we'll eat some of his contract.
Because Jets aren't paying a lot of people.
I mean, the truth is, Jets have some real cap space
because most of their good players,
they're not paying them anything, right?
So if the Jets said, we'll eat some of it,
but we're only giving you a second round pick.
I wouldn't give up a first for Aaron, Rogers.
Okay. So it's interesting.
So, like, I'm Green Bay.
if you gave me two seconds and ate some of it, I'd take it in heartbeat.
And that's not a knock on Aaron.
But I don't know.
First of all, I'm sending him to the AFC, so I don't have to – he's not going to burn me.
I don't have to face him.
The Packers draft and develop very well.
They don't have a lot of needs.
If Jordan Love can play, they need another receiver, another tight end.
I think they need an edge rusher.
But it's a very good roster.
They don't need a ton of draft capital.
The problem is if you're the Jets, you give up two second round picks.
Let's say you just miss the playoffs or you lose them.
the first round. Aaron says, I'm done. I had enough football.
Now where are you? You're back to Zach Wilson? Oh, well,
Jack Wilson threw osmosis and being around Aaron Rogers. He's going to be good all of a sudden.
How's that going to work, Colin? All quick. J. Mack, host on the show Friday. Watch, watch,
watch. It'll be great. J. Mack Friday in the herd. See you.
