This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

played for six years in the NFL.
He's now an analyst for San Diego State football,
and part of the most listened to sports talk radio show in San Diego,
Rich Ormberger is joining us live.
He's on Fox Sports Radio Saturdays.
Guy works nonstop.
He's your typical offensive lineman after retirement.
He's just grinding and wrestling in the trenches, and we love him for it.
All right, let's first of all, let's talk about a team.
You just told me during the break,
the Chargers are still the most watched team in San Diego.
the people may be upset with the Spanos family,
but all my buddies who are Charger fans,
and I have several that live in San Diego, L.A.
You love your team.
If the Seahawks left tomorrow, my sister still loves the team, right?
That's your team.
And I look at the Branden's, I look at the Brandon Staley situation.
How is that down there?
I think when you look at the Chargers, you know them well,
what do you make of the Brandon Staley, Herbert, Kellynne Moore?
What if they lose to Green Bay this weekend?
If they lose to Green Bay this weekend, I don't know what's next for Brandon Stanley, but I can promise you to your first point.
Yeah, the chargers in San Diego are still very, very much watched and viewed.
It's the highest viewed NFL network, or I should say NFL property in San Diego, obviously, but also it's the most watched sporting event in this county.
You're right.
Just because the team left, there are a lot of people who could divorce their hatred for the Spanos family,
for what they did to the city or the county of San Diego, but still loved the team and love the players.
Also, remember, they brought Philip Rivers with him with them when they moved.
Philip was beloved down here in San Diego, and he remained down here living in San Diego through the rest of his time playing for the Los Angeles Chargers.
And then they moved on and drafted Justin Herbert, who a lot of people were like, yeah, and you know,
I said it, I said after Philip left, I'd be dumb with them, but Herbert's pretty good, so I'm just
going to hang in there for a little bit longer. And, you know, that kind of brings you back to
Brandon Staley, because, yeah, Herbert's really good. In fact, objectively, if you look at his
his measurables, the guy's great, and he's being wasted. So if they continue to lose, I mean,
you're putting a Band-Aid on a gushing wound at this point, and a move needs to be made eventually.

I always take good teams that have been humiliated the week before. Jags got hammered by the
Niners. I'll take a minus six and a half to cover at home against the Titans. No way the Rams
beat the Seahawks twice. Seattle's minus one. A better, younger, healthier team. I'll take
Seattle. Broncos at home minus two. I know it's a short week off the Monday night football win,
but I think the Josh Dobbs story has limitations. Go Denver. If you want to take the

A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, CliverTaylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.

when you have the gap of quarterback talent in that game, I think the Spanos's and Telesco
would have to sit up front of the plane on the way home and have a long discussion. So you played
for the Patriots for years.
And I said last year
I heard there was a
disagreement between an offensive lineman.
I know who it is. It'll go unnamed
that confronted Mac Jones on the cheap shots.
But I said this. It's a grumpy staff.
It's Bill O'Brien. It's Matt Patricia. It's Joe Judge.
It's very old school.
And I don't think it's a particularly great staff.
They lost Adams. They lost Scarnacia.
They lost Josh McDaniels.
It's an old school staff
that barks.
It's not progressive.
It's not young.
It's not the rammed.
That's not what it is.
I think Max got something.
It's not special, but it's something.
Do you think the Patriots draft a quarterback if they land at three, four, or two in the draft?
Oh, that's the only way that Bill Belichick could potentially justify staying in New England.
That would be my plan if I'm Bill.
I would say, look, we're going to go to the draft.
We're going to find our next Tom Brady because what else can you say to Robert Kraft?
You guessed wrong on Mack Jones, taking him 15th overall.
A lot of people had him much lower than that draft slot.
And the Patriots are famous for this.
They've done that many times over, taking a guy way ahead of when he was supposed to
or getting a bargain on a player who's sliding.
But this one didn't work out.
You know, Mac Jones, to your point, I think has some talent.
I think he can play in this league.
I don't think it's working inside that system.
It's not a system fit.
And there are a lot of offensive-minded coaches now
who will curtail their offense to the player.
Think Doug Peterson with Trevor Lawrence.
He's trying to make it work with his skill set.
Think Jalen Hertz with Nick Siriani.
He's trying to make it work with his skill set.
Think of what's going on with Ben Johnson,
offensive coordinator in Detroit with Jared Gough.
It's the best he's ever look.
He's trying to curtail the offense
around his strengths and avoid his weaknesses.
What Mack Jones is trying to do,
is still fill the Hall of Fame shoes that were left by the back door when Tom Brady went down to Tampa Bay.
And it's impossible for him to do.
So they need to find either A, somebody who can or B, change the system and make it more courtailed to their quarterback's count.
You know, you had Nick Seriani.
You were on a staff.
He was a charger assistant.
And I thought he butchered his opening press conference.
I think they are now one of the smartest, most situationally efficient teams in the league.
And I acknowledge I've never been more wrong in a coach.
Dan Campbell, I knew, had a little bit of a physical presence.
It's like a Vrable-Tomlin thing.
Like players love Campbell.
And I could see that being okay.
Seriani to me looked like he wasn't ready to be a position coach.
You knew him before we'd heard of him.
Are you surprised at not only winning, but how they win?
the brotherly shove, the innovation, the efficiency situationally.
Are you taken back by it?
I mean, in some ways, for sure.
But in other ways, he was an idea guy.
You know, he helped support that offense with, you know, Ken Wisenham when he was the head coach,
and then Frank Reich, when he became the offensive coordinator, or I should say, with
Ken Wisenham, when he was the O.C., he left for the Tennessee job.
Frank Reich became the offensive coordinator.
and he was supporting him and his staff, he was an idea guy.
So he would help see what the defense was offering and how to attack the defense.
And I agree with you.
When first shot out of the cannon, when you had that opening press conference,
and a lot of people are like, what is going on?
It was, it was, you know, you ever have like that secondhand embarrassment where you're like cringing?
You're like, oh, please, please just survive the rest of this sentence.
But I'll tell you what, he made a recovery because he got in front of that team.
And as we know this, Colin, as everybody who's ever played, the sport knows it,
it doesn't matter what anybody on the outside thinks.
It matters what the 53 in that locker room think.
And if you can win over that locker room and you can prove to them that you're intelligent,
which he is, and you can prove to them that you're a good leader, which he is.
And you can prove them that you can take what you have and make it into something special,
which he's done.
Man, you can go out and win Super Bowls.
and they came a game away or a couple of plays away from doing it a season ago.
I got to ask you, and I just want, I'm not even going to preface it with anything.
I have been pro-harball because I do think there's some sort of advanced scouting.
I think it could matter, but I think it's more about J.J. McCarthy and, you know, Michigan's got good players,
and they've all, this is their team, best team.
But your takeaway top to bottom on the punishment,
the crime going forward.
Where are you on Harbon, Michigan?
So if he's guilty of being complicit and involved in something that was, you know,
conspiratorial, right?
Where behind the scenes, there were phone calls and plane tickets and, you know,
video camera and equipment being sent out to different, you know,
opponents' games to film and all that stuff.
Well, yeah, okay, then all of a sudden we have a very different-looking type.
of scandal on her hands. But if this was as simple as somebody on his staff, kind of gone off
half-cocked on his own, and there was an understanding that something was happening here
that wasn't completely above board, but they were getting away with it, I have a hard time
with the punishment being all that steep. Because guess what? All of these coaches who are
belly aching out loud about this, it kind of feels like they're living in glass houses.
And if the microscope was shined on their programs, maybe we would find some stuff.
Every team is guilty of doing some things that, you know, hover in that gray area, that go up against
the borders of, you know, is it cheating or is it allowed?
Is it okay to do this or is this completely, I mean, there's a margin there.
And I think every single coach who's having success at any level is finding where the margins
are.
Maybe Jim Harbaugh did it the best.
Or if you look at his roster, top to bottom, and you compare it to the rest of college football, and you say, you know, do they have the Johnny's and Jokes?
The answer is yes.
Do they run a great offense and really, like we were just talking about?
They feature the things that their offensive players do well?
Sure.
Are they dominant on the defensive side of the ball?
Can they get after the passer?
Can they turn over the football?
Can they possess the football with the lead?
Can they come back in games?
All of that is true.
Can they beat good teams on the road?
Well, guess what?
Without Jim Harbaugh, they just did that in Beaver Stadium with everybody watching.
So, yeah, I understand the Big Ten felt like they needed to do something,
but you can't tell me a two-week investigation,
yield them all the information they need to suspend them for three games.
It kind of felt like everybody had their pitchforks out
and something needed to be done.
So Tony Petiti, the commissioner of the league, did something,
and Harbaugh accepts the punishment,
and then this story goes away for a little while.
Rich Arnberger, he's great.

All right, breaking news, Joe Burrow, Bengals, quarterback out for the season, torn ligaments,
according to the website for the Bengals and reporters.
So he's out for the season.
So I had the Bengals Steelers in that division.
It looks like it'll be the Ravens, and I would guess the Steelers.
I don't trust the Browns.
So right now, the AFC playoff picture.
That division just lost two quarterbacks for the season.
So here we go for our TV audio.
So right now, these are the playoff teams.
Chiefs, Ravens, Jags, Dolphins, Steelers, Browns, Texans.
My guess is Chiefs Ravens.
I think the Texans are getting.
sitting in the playoffs, dude. I think my
guess is the Bills replace the Texans. The Bills win this weekend
and they go on a little bit of a role, play better. The Bills
get in as a wildcard team.
Before you commit to that, let me just rattle off
some of their upcoming opponents.
Versed the Jets at Philadelphia
at Kansas City
versus Dallas. How many of those are the bills winning?
Well, how about give me a few more after that?
Okay. Chargers, Patriots, Dolphins.
All right. Where's the dolphin game at?
At Miami final regular season game.
Dude, they're not getting 10 wins.
Texan schedule is a joke the rest of the way.
The Texans are getting in the playoffs.
Well, then the Texan schedules.
Now watch them lose this weekend.
Cleveland's not going to make it, so you might as well bounce Cleveland.
Well, wait a minute.
Why can't Cleveland get in the playoffs with that defense?
PJ Walker.
No, no, no.
It's DTR.
Okay, that's the worst.
Come on.
Listen, you got, that defense is real nasty.
Number one in the league.
AFC.
Come on.
They're not.
We don't have 17th.
I think the Chiefs.
Ravens, Jags, Dolphins, Steelers, I would vote today, get in.
I'm just going to, I'm going to say Buffalo is going to figure out a way to get in.
I don't feel great about it.
I can see the Texans getting in with their schedule and quarterback play.
I can't believe some third-string guy for the Browns is going to lead him into the promised land in the AFC.
Hold on.
Let's do Chargers real quick.
Ready?
At Packers versus Baltimore.
At New England, Denver.
Chargers should make it.
That's a weak schedule.
New England, Denver, Vegas.
Three straight, they should be.
I'll say right now.
Buffalo.
Oh, they got Denver twice on the schedule.
Okay, so I'm going to make a guess.
Chiefs, Ravens, Jags, Dolphins, Steelers,
Chargers, Texans.
That's my guess today.
The Chargers got, the schedule is weak.
Their toughest games.
Well, the Chargers are two games back of the Browns.
I've got to make up two games.
It's pretty easy when I got Herbert and you got a third stringer.
I'll take them.
I think the Chargers end strong.
Damn it. Can the Jets get in this discussion?
No.
let's get off that. That's not happening.
Let's go to the, do we have the NFC standings right now?
Man, Joe Burrow, that is so disappointing, dude.
By the way, Zach Taylor said today, Burroughs wrist wrap was completely unrelated to this season ending injury last night.
Totally unrelated. Totally unrelated.
So all you, you know, freak out crime.
By the way, the NFC playoff picture, I think that's much easier because I think there's so few really good teams.
I think you and I pretty much nailed it.
lions, eagles, cowboys,
Niners, Saints.
If the Saints don't win that division,
fire the staff, because that division's nonsense.
I don't. Do you trust the Saints?
I don't know.
I don't trust them, but the rest of the division's not good.
I don't trust them at all.
You can see how much coach.
All you have to do is look at the Denver Broncos last season,
Denver Broncos this season.
If you question, if you don't think coaching matters,
when you bad-mouthed Justin Herbert,
and you don't think coaching has an impact,
go look at the Denver Broncos this year.
Russell Wilson is Russell Wilson is Russell Wilson of Seattle.
So here right now, here's the NFC playoff picture.
God, we almost nailed this perfectly.
Philly, Detroit, San Francisco, New Orleans, Seattle, Dallas, Minnesota.
The difference is I had Atlanta in over Minnesota.
I thought they'd sneak in.
They still can't.
No, no, they can't.
Not with Desmond and Renner and Heineke.
They can't.
Listen, I trust Josh Dobbs right now more than the guys in Atlanta.
Hell, more than Derek Carr.
I'm not kidding.
No, I do too.
I would take Josh Dobbs for a game over Derek Carr.
Sounds crazy, but I would.
He moves much better.
I mean, he just was up 24-3.
And he also, he's willing to throw the ball down the field.
I'll tell you, this year, I have sold my Derek car stock.
I didn't have a ton of it.
I've sold it.
A Viking schedule coming up.
Okay, at Denver versus Chicago, at Raiders at Cincinnati.
And by the way, at Cincinnati means you're going to face Jake Browning or whatever's
name is, the kid from Washington.
Like that, listen, man, Minnesota's
going to get, Kevin O'Coddle needs some props.
Justin Jefferson coming back.
Well, wait, here's what's interesting. If you're the Rams,
so the Rams are 3 and 6,
I think they beat Seattle and go 4 and 6.
They're playing their way out of a good pick
in the draft. They really are.
They're playing their way out of a good
pick. I mean, the Rams
could use a left tackle,
a great tight end, a defensive
tackle. They could use a
quarterback for the future. They're not
You're not getting that stuff.
If you go to right now, if the Rams win, they're going to get down to about 10th, 11th, 12th.
That's not bad.
There's only seven great players in this draft.
Well.
There's two quarterbacks.
I mean, like prospects.
There's two quarterbacks, a great receiver, Marvin Harrison, a great defensive tackle from Illinois,
two really high-end tackles, the tied end from Georgia.
And then there's a defensive end a lot of people like.
Currently, the Rams are seventh.
And they're going to win this weekend.
Okay, but the schedule the rest of the way, it's not cake.
What is it?
Oh, I got to call it up.
Man, I just can't get over this.
Burrow.
How many quarterbacks have we lost?
We lost Aaron Rogers.
We lost Deshawn Watson.
We lost Joe Burrow.
Any other, I mean, we lost Kirk Cousins.
It just, is Kurt gone for the year?
Anthony Richards.
Well, we got like seven quarterbacks down for the year.
What the heck, man?
Well, this goes back.
No, no, it goes back to something that we've talked about is, does the NFL
examine Thursday night football.
Now, they make so much money from Amazon, a billion bucks.
They won't.
But it's like that we do have a bit of a quarter.
I mean, they've done everything they can to protect the quarterback,
and they're still getting hurt.
Number one, make all the fields grass fields.
When you're landing on your shoulders and when you're landing with 295-pound guys on you,
make it a grass field.
Owners need to put grass on every single field.
That's the first thing I would do.
Because I think you're getting to a point now.
What more can you do to protect?
quarterbacks. I mean, they're doing everything
they can and you're losing high.
So, Burrow, Rogers,
Watson, cousins,
those are B-plus and up
quarterbacks. So, you know,
the league's not going to be happy, but in two weeks,
Jags' Primetime game against the Bengals.
Nobody wants to see the kid Browning
in prime time.
Didn't you have his former coach
in here? No, I watched him all through college.
He can't throw the ball deep. Well, no, no.
That's not what he does. He can manage
an offense, but he's a backup.
So they're done.
Listen, I picked him to win. Cincinnati's out.
They have another island game against the Steelers.
They've got a high-profile game on New Year's Eve against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Those games now are like double-digit spreads.
But you know why the ratings are up?
Gambling.
That's why the ratings are up.
People stick around and watch bad games.
If you have money on a game, you're loyal to money, not backup quarterback.
You don't care.
It's amazing what gambling can do.
gambling keeps you on games.
It does me.
If I got 50 bucks in the game, absolutely washing it longer.
And then a couple years ago, Supreme Court legalized it.
And that's why the ratings are up despite all these quarterback issues.
I don't know what you do to solve the issue in the NFL of quarterback injuries.
The bankers did the right thing.
Remember, they went all in on offensive linemen.
We're going to Jonah Williams.
And who's the guy they signed the big kid from KC?
You know, they spent money on the offensive line.
And Burrow hurts a calf.
Now Burrow, the wrist.
And he's done.
Well, there's a lot of things, I think.
Number one, I would get rid of the preseason.
I think it's stupid.
I don't think you need the preseason.
College football doesn't have a preseason,
and it's 20-year-old kids who have 17-hour limitations on practice.
What you should do is have continued joint practices.
Coaches will tell you they get way more out of that than they do pre-season games anyway.
Get rid of the preseason.
You're screwing fans on pre-season.
You're charging fans regular season prices.
It's aesthetically, optically awful.
Preseason games are really.
are awful and they've gotten worse because
with 17 games, no coach wants to play
any of the starters. I'd get rid of the
preseason so that you
don't lose any quarterbacks
that way. So you just get out of
the, I mean, you don't lose a ton of people in the preseason
because nobody plays starters, but you do lose
starters. I would get rid of the preseason.
I would add a second buy.
If Joe Burrow didn't play last night
because he was rested, there's every
chance he doesn't get hurt.
So what I would do is add a second by
and get rid of the preseason. So
But in fact, nobody gets a buy before week four.
Nobody gets a week by after, like, week 15.
And everybody gets a second buy.
And what is?
Because if you're going to make them play on Thursday, then give the guys more time to rest.
And I think a lot of this stuff is quarterbacks playing that are already dinged up.
They've already got, like, fractures.
They're a bit fragile.
They play because they feel they, you know, only guy that doesn't get hit at practice.
Quarterbacks always have this guilt that I've got to play.
They're playing hurt.
They're playing dinged up.
And then all of a sudden, bang you get hurt.
hurt again. Yeah, you know, it just really stinks. I'm not even like a huge borough guy, but like the
Bengals, I had him and go to the Super Bowl. Remember Otani in baseball? Like, he's the greatest
show this summer. Otani goes down, forget about the angels. They're not even, you know, nobody's
watching them. Otani's done. And now like, I mean, the Jets are unwatchable. I'm a Jets fan.
And trust me, it's a real tough watch, man. Well, here's who is left at quarterback. Mahomes,
Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, Tua. By the way, Trevor Lawrence stinks this year.
Let's see.
Jay Stroud is a gym.
Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Russell Wilson, all remain.
So does Jalen Hertz, Jared Goff, Brock Purdy, Derek Carr, Gino, Dack, Matt Stafford.
Tell me you said Purdy.
And Kyler Murray.
So there's still a lot of guys that get me to a television set.
There's a lot of guys.
Well, Brock Pretty's fun to watch.
There's a lot of guys.
I think Sam Hal is interesting.
There are still a lot of guys that get me to a TV set.
But it does feel a little alarming that there's been a lot of high profiles, guys hurt.
But we're also lucky that C.J. Stroud appears to be a hit.
So we have a new franchise quarterback, and that's what we average.
About one guy a year comes in, and you go, wow.
Bryce Young looks like a whiff.
Well, no, no, let's be fair about that.
And by the way, I like watching Justin Fields.
I like watching him play.
Yeah, yeah, he's fun.
I don't think he's great, but I mean, Justin Fields, absolutely, if he's playing.
It's fun to watch guys run for their life.
Yeah, I enjoy watching.
I find him fun to watch.
I think he's an electric player.
So, you know,
Mac Jones, bores the, you know what out of me.
That is just, even Zach Wilson can be bizarrely bad because he's got an arm and can run.
Mac Jones is bad TV.
All right, we're done.
We are done.
We'll see you.
Be safe this weekend.
Live in L.A., it's the hurt.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman.
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest,
SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band
with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing
human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and
with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having
trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever

lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought
provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy
far, far away, such as the biology of taun tons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality
and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the
