Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:00:38 Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:04 And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I put on 10, I was having trouble
Starting point is 00:01:31 stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast. Starting point is 00:01:53 by searching Hurd. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right. go. Hour number three. What a weird zany day today. It's the hurt. So Aaron Rogers has gone on a YouTube channel with Pat McAfee, a former NFL punter media guy now, and said basically the Packers told him a while back. They wanted to move on. He said, I wish they would have
Starting point is 00:02:26 given me, you know, told me earlier. But Aaron Rogers cannot complain about people telling him things earlier. he has held the Packers hostage more than once. So that's not a legitimate complaint by Aaron Rogers at all. Look in the mirror. Aaron has kept people at bay. I know multiple Packer players, multiple. And when he goes to the Jets, maybe I'll give you a heads up on a couple.
Starting point is 00:02:54 They have no idea what he's doing. He's held the Jets up, the teammates up. Nobody's that close to him. David Boktiari is close, but most of these guys aren't that close to him. So, you know, Aaron can't complain. about that. That's not a fair complaint that, you know, I wish I would have known earlier. You know, the Jets and the Packers wish they would have known earlier if you were going to go into this semi-committed state. That's a nonsense argument by Aaron Rogers. But I don't feel like
Starting point is 00:03:17 taking shots at him. I don't think the Jets are going to be a dominating team. I don't think they're a playoff team. At best, they'd be a wild card team with the Jets. But I'm not going to pick on Aaron. He's a different cat. He's got a different personality. He's got, you know, he's doing something that the media doesn't like. I couldn't give a rip. But he like, he like, fun of Adam Schaefter. Sheffter tweeted into Tay and Aaron Rogers and Aaron's told him to get lost and Schaefter put it. He doesn't want to hear from Ian Rappaport called Diana Rusini's list stupid. He doesn't care.
Starting point is 00:03:49 And by the way, the media isn't very well liked in this country. People don't trust the media. I think it's unfortunate, but there's a lot of people in the media, sports and political media that you maybe shouldn't trust. There's a lot of agendas in the media. I have them as well. I try to tell you when I have an agenda. My agenda is I love drama and tire fires, so this whole story to me has been great.
Starting point is 00:04:08 I root for mayhem. I root for chaos. I root for this. I love it. I mean, it's March. What would I talk about? This has given me content. I'm totally transparent about what I like.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Messes. And this is a mess a little bit. I don't think Aaron's going to transform the AFC or the AFC East. I think the Packers should be fine. I've said from the beginning, I would not leave if I'm Aaron Rogers. it sounds like he didn't necessarily want to leave. He also admitted the Packers told him, we're ready to move on. So that answers one of the questions I had.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Why would Aaron want to go to a less functional organization? Because the Packers told him we don't want you. The second thing is, I've said for years, I would rip the Band-Aid off. I've said this now in the last year. I'd rip the Band-Aid off if I was Green Bay. You moved up on Jordan Love. You got a good roster. Get them another tight end.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Packers always have good old lines. They draft develop it very well. It's a very good organization. I don't think it's crazy to say the Jets and the Packers next year, Green Bay will make the playoffs. Jets won't because I feel the NFC is so weak and the AFC is so loaded. I mean, who is the best quarterback today in the NFC? Matt Stafford's all banged up.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I think it's Jalen Hertz. I think. I think who's the best in the AFC? Good God, it's my home. It's Alan. It's Lamar. It's Deshaun. It's Herbert.
Starting point is 00:05:31 It's Burrow. Trevor Lawrence. I mean, you get to about like eight, nine, and you get to guys who have been in Super Bowls, Garapolo. So I think it's very, if I had to make predictions today, I think Green Bay is going to be a 10-win team next season, and my Jets, the Jets would be a nine-win team. So I think Aaron's going into a very, we did this earlier. Here's the quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Aaron Rogers face last year. He faced Josh Allen once. He did face dad. and Jalen Hertz, but it's a pretty meager group of quarterbacks. Zach Wilson, Taylor Heineke, Bailey Zappie, Justin Fields, Ryan Tannahill, Baker Mayfield. Look what he would face this year with the Jets. It's a whole different ballgame. Josh Allen twice, Tua twice.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Mack Jones with an offensive coordinator twice. Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert. Jalen Hertz with another year of experience. He gets better every year. Russell Wilson with Sean Payton. Deshawn Watson. Say what you want. Daniel Jones made the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Russell Wilson. Jimmy G. That's a different ball game. You don't get a face Josh Allen once. Now you've got to go face him twice once in Buffalo. So it's a different ballgame playing for the Jets. I don't know if Jordan Love can play. I watched him.
Starting point is 00:07:02 I don't think he's great. I don't think he's a disaster. He could be just a guy, but it looks like he can play a little bit, and Green Bay's got a pretty good roster. Colin, can you imagine emerging from three days in the darkness and all of a sudden deciding, I want to play for the team that's been the worst in the NFL for the last decade?
Starting point is 00:07:19 That's where I want to go. Well, remember, according to the timeline, Aaron was told over a month ago Green Bay was moving off him. That's when Aaron or somebody in his group contacted the Jets. So he did not come out of the retreat with the Jets as a new team. We said he was going in 90% retirement.
Starting point is 00:07:42 10% Jets. 10% Jets. Yes, because Hackett was hired a month ago. Aaron said that I am Pat McAfee as close as any coach I've been with. So the minute Hackett signed with the Jets a month ago, that Aaron and Hackett and the Jets, that became 90% retirement or that franchise. The Jets hired Hackett and said, hey, if there's even 10% chance to get him, he's either going to retire, let's just hire him and make us the leader in the clubhouse.
Starting point is 00:08:12 So do the Jets have a statue of Hackett outside the stadium by week one or what, what are we doing here? We'll see. Very exciting. Yeah. We got Aaron Rogers. Whoop. Well, not yet.
Starting point is 00:08:22 According to Aaron, the Packers are digging their feet in. And I think they've got all the leverage. They got Jordan Love in the building. They've got a good roster. They'll be co-favorites for their division. I don't think, I think Green Bay is in a great space. They don't have, it's a well-run organization. They have no owner to answer to.
Starting point is 00:08:40 I think Green Bay is in a great spot today, and I think the Jets are trying to figure out a way. I think it's coming down to this. Green Bay is like, pay more of Aaron's deal, and the Jets are no. And then you know what the Packers are saying? All right, Aaron retires, dead cap hit for us. We'll play Jordan Luff. They don't care. But if Aaron retires, the Jets are screwed, the Packers aren't.
Starting point is 00:09:00 likely probably we'd see what the Jets would do in that scenario but if we're making predictions on the division right now put me down for the Detroit Lions to win the NFC North next season Packers I can't determine if they're second or third I don't know how Jordan Love makes them a 10-win team Colin pretty good roster you think Rogers couldn't get Rogers couldn't get that good roster last year well that's because he didn't spend the offseason working with rookie receivers Jordan loves a young guy he's going to be totally committed to Christian Watson Romeo Dobbs playing for a contract as well. Jordan Lutz.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Absolutely. Jordan Lund. Extra incentive. Absolutely. I think Green Bay is a very well-run organization. Michael Robinson played in the NFL for nearly a decade, a nineer, and a Seahawk, a pro-bowler,
Starting point is 00:09:42 Big Ten, co-offensive player of the year. Always an interesting take NFL network analyst. Well, you're watching all this card banging into each other. Let me ask you this. How do you think, because I've talked to three-packer players since the Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:09:58 And the two offensive guys say, we got no idea what Aaron's doing. We got no idea. So Aaron tends to keep people kind of in the dark a little bit. If you were a Packer player today, what are you thinking? If I'm a current Packer player? And you're going to be coming back. You're not Alan Lazard going to the Jets.
Starting point is 00:10:18 You're a current Packer player. What's your takeaway now? Relief? It has to be. I don't have to deal with this anymore. Right. It's gone. And I think the real,
Starting point is 00:10:28 think one of the bigger stories that not a lot of people are talking about is just the willingness of Green Bay to just say go ahead on man go ahead and leave get out i think they're tired of being over especially over the last few years of always having to answer these questions uh and i said a few years ago on our network you know at nifle network like what does erin want really he is the franchise guy uh they come to him sometimes with uh with franchise moves yeah they have to move on from older players, but every team in the National Football League does that. And to me, I think
Starting point is 00:11:03 it's criminal that Aaron Rogers and myself, we have the same amount of Super Bowls. For him to be that good. I mean, honestly, for him to be that good and supposed to be a force multiplier, and to be compared with the guys and the greats like the Tom Brady's, the Joe Montana, because let's be honest, that's what we're talking
Starting point is 00:11:19 about Aaron Rogers up against. We're not talking about him up against just the regular old average quarterback that runs through the national football. We're talking our greatness. He said it. He's even talked about how long he's been great in the national football league. So you have to compare him to the other greats in one championship, what, 15, 16 years? That's not good in my opinion. Yeah, you know, it's, I look at it from the Packers standpoint, and they're like, okay, you ask us to sign guys we don't really want to, Randall Cobb.
Starting point is 00:11:50 You don't really commit. And now we're not getting a payoff at the end of the year. Because LeBron James will ask for stuff. Brady will ask for stuff, but I get the pay. Payoff. Payton Manning will ask for stuff. I don't care if you're a soccer star. They ask for stuff. I'm willing to give new, as Jimmy Johnson said, I treat Troy Akin one way and the rest of the roster of the other. But you're not getting the big payoff. I think if in fairness to Green Bay, they have compromised a lot of what they would do normally and they feel like in the last couple years, we're not getting the payoff in the weaker NFC. We can get this with Jordan Love. Agreed.
Starting point is 00:12:25 And a commitment. Agreed. I mean, the Packers are probably saying the same thing I've been saying. One championship out of all of this. And we still have to deal with the questions at the end of every season. We still have to deal with the issues of if we're signing his homeboys back or not. And look, and I know people who follow me, you know, I've been critical of Aaron Rogers over the last few years because he's just too good to have one championship. In my opinion. And for him to hold both of these organizations hostage, like this to me is just it's a little bit unfair but to his point when he does speak oh it's golden i love it yeah now no no it's real though you're a jets player this morning right now what are you thinking with aaron coming to your franchise potentially mostly potentially i'm excited i really am we have a legit guy who we know can play games and win games off of his arm which not a lot of organizations can say that best guy since nameth in the organization But I have questions.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I have questions for Joe Douglas, and I love Joe Douglas. I think he's a great talent evaluator. I got questions for Robert Sala. First of all, like, is this guy going to be here in the offseason? Is this an all-for-one-year type of a deal? Because if I'm a guy who has a longer contract and I'm on the Jets right now, and what is that saying past this year? And, you know, and we had this conversation a few days ago on our network.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Like, when did this, when did we get into this mold of just going? Going all in on one season, and I get the, it happened with the Rams. It's all good, but look at what the Rams have to do in the years following that. Look at what it does to your organization. And to me, I think the decision makers in every organization have a responsibility to make sure the team is good, not just one year, but for the long term. And sometimes you have to make tough decisions to guarantee that. So the Packers are going to get some picks for Aaron.
Starting point is 00:14:23 My guess is at some point they're going to draft a quarterback this year. because Aaron Jordan's been in the building so long, they're not going to give him two years of starting. They're going to say by Thanksgiving, guys in the room are going to be going up, down, right? Yeah. You've been in the, we've got a lot of films. I will say this, though, Colin.
Starting point is 00:14:40 I went to the combine a few weeks ago. Yeah. You know, it's a lot of buzz at the combine. Talk to some Packers guys. Talk to Aaron Jones. We did a broadcast together. And I asked Aaron on camera and off camera where it's just us just shooting around,
Starting point is 00:14:54 just kicking it. I'm like, bro, is the kid? kid ready. He took his glasses down. He said, Mike Rob, the kid is ready. So I have to, I have to believe the guys that see him every single day in his locker room. I talked to him at the Super Bowl. Yeah. He said, he said, I think he's ready to go. Now, again, he sees him every day. Also, Aaron Jones, a leader in that locker room. And I think Aaron Jones is even tired of talking about the Aaron Rogers question after every single season. Yeah, I think guys are. I get it. Aaron's a different cat. Did you ever, four years, Niners,
Starting point is 00:15:27 four years Seahawks. People have compared and I've said before. Russell Wilson and Aaron are dissimilar. One's very religious conviction. One tends to be a bit more agnostic and spiritual. But they are similar in that. They're not necessarily a Brady or a Peyton Manning, go out for beers,
Starting point is 00:15:46 jump on my back. I'm taking you over the hill together. They're both different dudes. And it says not a knock on Russell. But you were there for Russell. Yeah. Russell gives off a vibe that apparently a lot of Seahawks didn't like. Aaron gives off a vibe that many people don't like.
Starting point is 00:16:06 When a quarterback's like that, not a classic unifier, just not. That's just he's not going to go out and hang out with you. Is it different? Is it, is it harder? What's it like? Because you played with Russ. It is different. And again, what I'm going to say is not necessarily directed specifically at Russell.
Starting point is 00:16:26 But I will say the quarterback position, it's part public relations, man. You have to be able to get along with every single group and group of people in the locker room. And when you do have quarterbacks who aren't the unifiers, you can get, you can have some issues. So you got to play well. And when I think about Russell Wilson, to me, that was the issue last year. He didn't play well. So whatever his relationships and whatever the issues that are going on in the locker room, they don't get solved.
Starting point is 00:16:56 And I think that's Sean Payton's biggest challenge with handling Russell Wilson this year. Russell can still throw the football. I do think he needs to take off a little bit more. He can still run. For whatever reason last year, he decided not to take off. We couldn't figure it out. Couldn't figure it out, right? I do think he can take off more.
Starting point is 00:17:14 But at the end of the day, Sean Payton needs to figure out how Russell can affect the relationships in the locker room. And that's just from what I hear about what's going on in that locker room. And I think if he can do that, I think the Denver Broncos will be fine. So as a former player, do you have sympathy for Lamar Jackson's inability to get a deal done? Or are you a, dude, hire an agent? Can't hire your mom? Where do you land on that? Because I've said before, he wins 75% of his starts in the AFC.
Starting point is 00:17:43 I'm not letting him go. I'm also not going to guarantee all of it. I'm not going to let the Cleveland Browns dictate terms in the NFL. You're desperate. We're not. Baltimore's a real organization. like a Seattle or a San Francisco. They're not desperate.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Vikings were with Kirk Cousins. They got no rings. Cleveland is always desperate. So I'm not going to let anybody dictate terms for me, but I'm not letting him go. Do you have sympathy for him, though, or are you more critical in terms of you don't have an agent? You got to have an agent when you're a superstar athlete,
Starting point is 00:18:14 talk show host, politician. You got to have an agent. Especially when you're at the level of Mars, the elite of the elite. Now, I'm not one of those guys that just says, everybody has to have an agent and all those things. Because I've seen guys negotiate their deals and they've gotten the money that they've wanted. Some of it slotted. Yes, and some of it's slotted.
Starting point is 00:18:33 But at the end of the day, when you're dealing with these type of numbers, these type of quarterback numbers, I do think you need to have somebody skilled at the art of negotiation. Now, I do think there's a happy median in this. And what I don't know, and I don't know if anybody really knows, but Lamar and his camp, what exactly he wants. I know it's always referred to the Deshawn Watson contract, $233 million. Give me a dollar over that, whatever you want to call it.
Starting point is 00:19:00 But to me, I mean, Deshawn Watson is, what, 46 million per year? To me, the happy median is you do the years like he's a running back, three years, but the money is like he's a quarterback. Okay. Three years, $150 million. Guarantee the whole thing, right? And in two years, you revisit this whole thing all over again, and then you give Lamar,
Starting point is 00:19:19 a chance to be with a real passing game coordinator. Now, the Ravens, there's reports from the Ravens side that they did offer him close to what you're saying, but a 135 guaranteed. So to me, that says that that's your deal. It's closer to my deal. I would offer him the same thing and then give him some incentive to that he's going to get his 150. You want to show the player, you want to give him his money. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:43 You know, but at the end of the day, the player has to understand that there is a risk here. Okay, there's a risk with paying him. I'm not in the camp of hating on Lamar Jackson or anything like that. I think Lamar Jackson, one of the premier quarterbacks in the National Football League. I just think there's a happy media, and you have to deal with the circumstances you're dealing with right now. I understand you think you're better than Deshaun Watson, all good. But if your team that has the ability to pay you right now doesn't, you've got to do some negotiating. You know, it's interesting that Cowboys are going to move off Ezekiel Elliott.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Not all positions have the same trajectory. The Chargers probably not going to resign Austin Echler. love him, had him on the show, but he's a running back. Tony Pollard got a franchise, Sequin Barclay. It is funny in your world, because you did a lot of stuff. Did the last stuff, man, I blocked, tackle, all that. Special teams. When players play certain more physical positions,
Starting point is 00:20:37 Debo Samuel said, bro, if I'm taking these hits, then I get a longer deal. How does that play among pro athletes? Running backs in the locker room, no, they're never going to be paid like a receiver. They take the beating. They've got to block more. Is there ever, do you think there's a resentment by Zeke, Sequin, Echler? Did you ever have a little resentment like, bro, I'm picking up the blitz? Yeah, I mean, yeah, you get a little pissed off. Just a little bit. You know what I'm saying? I play fullback.
Starting point is 00:21:06 You could count on probably one-handed teams that even carry fullbacks right now. And I've been a proponent of saying, I think the running back position needs its own CBA. I think they need to collectively bargain it different for that position. Again, no contract should be more than three years. They should always have a chance to come back to the table. And, you know, will there be that first overall running back pick ever again just because of the nature of the position? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:34 I still think that we have generational backs coming up through our amateur ranks through the NCAA. But at the end of the day, if we can get a separate kind of working, device for the running backs because again we get the ball seven yards behind the field collins all 11 defenders are assaulting the line of scrimmage that's the only position like that yeah i want to circle back to aaron rogers um whatever it takes to get right mentally i'm for it meditation iowasca do what you got to do you meditate man i go home every day every well almost every day today i'll be a day i go home uh upstairs
Starting point is 00:22:15 curtains closed lights off light music for an hour every day that's awesome i just restart my brain every day my god man yeah i do the same thing okay so i'm the dark room by myself yeah we all good all right and no iahuasca maybe someday so how do you think erin because a locker room has a lot of different personalities but there's also similarities um all of you went to college right um all of you I've been coached hard. That's the football. All you take, all you've been hurt. Basketball's different.
Starting point is 00:22:49 You can be from Lithuania. I'm from Asia. I'm from, I went to college. I went to G League. Football, there's a lot of similarities. We all went to college. It's all domestic. And then here comes Aaron.
Starting point is 00:23:01 He's a borderline hippie. It's ayahuasca. Retreats. How do you think in the football world he's viewed? When you talk to other players, how is he viewed? odd different unique unique is probably the best word for it um and the thing about football the thing about locker rooms guys really could care less what you do on your own time guys could really care less what you do once you leave this building as long as you're the best version of yourself
Starting point is 00:23:34 when you get in this building as long as you're the best version of yourself when you step in that huddle so i can depend on you to do my job to get the bag, to score a touchdown, and stop the other team, whatever the case may be, so that we can win championships. That's it. Now, when what you're doing outside of this building starts to affect my bag and me trying to win championships
Starting point is 00:23:58 and things like that, that's when we have a problem. That's when we got to have a conversation. But, yeah, to answer your question, yeah, guys may say, oh, he's a little weird, but can he still throw the football? Yeah, well, he's all right with me. And he may, you know, do whatever, go to a black meditation room or whatever the case may be.
Starting point is 00:24:14 But can he still win games? Can he make the audibles at the line of scrimmage? Yes. Come on. How many great friends, boys you'd roll with outside of football? Go to a club. Go out, dinner, travel, Vegas weekend, Bahamas. How many guys, Niners, Seahawks, on average?
Starting point is 00:24:30 On average, like when I played or now. When you played? When I played anybody in the locker room. I think I'm a former quarterback, man. So the minute I go into a locker room, I'm just like the quarterback. You're verbal. Yeah, I'm verbal.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Hey, what's going on guys? I'm like, Rob was going on. What y'all like to do? What's going on? Okay. So I hang out with everybody, man. And actually, I like the fact when I'm hanging out with people that don't always look like me. So I can learn something.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Teach me something. And so, yeah, man, teammates are great. I hang on with everybody. I like that. But, but Kyler Marie's not like that. Well, again, some of this generation of quarterbacks, some of them are a little bit different. and if you are a little bit different and you being different
Starting point is 00:25:14 gets you the money and get you paid, why would you ever change? I'm just saying that could you mention Kyle Murray? Yeah, I mean, I've said, we've always understood that international soccer stars, Messi, Ronaldo, a lot of baggage. And we're like, that's good. We've always given NBA stars.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Come with a little baggage. We're good. I think we have to come to terms with international sports royalty is soccer stars. American sports royalty has been NBA superstars. Because they made shoe money and sports money. We've got to come to terms with. If you look at finances and cultural impact,
Starting point is 00:25:51 quarterbacks have become messy and LeBron. And with that comes, I'm a do, I'm going to do what I'm going to do. Right? They're not all going to be, I'm not going to drink a beer in the season. That ain't going to be it. That's true, too.
Starting point is 00:26:06 the people that are making decisions are a little bit younger. They're more okay with it. I mean, society is changing. So at the end of the day, we're just becoming cool with everything. I mean, you're saying people that talk about Aaron Rogers used the term mushrooms, Ayahuasso, so much now. I mean, we wouldn't have done that 20 years ago. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:26 It's changing, man. Michael Robinson, great seeing you. It's good to see you too, man. It absolutely is. And you work at the NFL network, but we like when you visit the show. We really do. I love being here, man. Always, man.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Hit me some time up, man. I always come back. All right. J. Mac, your turn. Oh, wait, dope. Oh, we got a break. That's right. My bad.
Starting point is 00:26:49 I forgot where I was. Starting point is 00:29:16 By the way, forget the Aaron Rogers story. The Pentagon issues an official warning over, quote, alien mothership UFO sending probes to Earth like NASA does. That's the story of the day, not Aaron Rogers and the Packers and the Jets. The Pentagon said there's an alien mothership potentially sending probes to the earth.
Starting point is 00:29:39 I don't know. Between the NCAA tournament, Aaron Rogers, rest of free agency, NBA games mattering. I got to coach youth sports this weekend. I don't have time for aliens right now, Colin. Can they just hold off? Wait till the summer when things have slowed down? There's a lot happening in sports right now. There's a lot happening in the skies as well. J. Mack with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So today, Aaron Rogers went on a YouTube show hosted by former NFL punter Pat McAfee to, you know, basically just get some stuff off his chest, take some shots at the Packers. It seems like they're holding up the deal.
Starting point is 00:30:17 He, of course, went to take shots at reporters, which is weird, Colin, because like reporters are texting him trying to do their job. And he's saying, lose my number. You guys are liars. Like, they're trying. I don't know. I didn't like that. And I got a quick take on it a minute. But he said this isn't a decision day, but his attention is to play for the Jets.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Like, it was just an ugly appearance for Rogers. Colin, I know you like the content of this deal, but I'm just curious. Do you think the audience and the NFL at large, forget social media, do you think they cared this much about Aaron Rogers, the way they cared when Tom Brady was switching teams, when LeBron's moving around? Because Rogers is not nearly as well liked. Yeah, but Rogers is going to New York. Tom was going to Tampa.
Starting point is 00:31:04 New York is always interesting. Even when they're a mess. You had Tom Brady and his former coach Belichick who were the goats at their respective positions breaking up. That's like a real divorce. Well, Packers. This feels divorced like it's been happening for a while. No, I mean, Packers and Aaron are huge brands.
Starting point is 00:31:21 And now he's going to New York. I think it feels bigger and controversial. I don't think Brady leaving to Tampa felt controversial. It was just a marriage that dissolved. This feels controversial and that sells. Aaron was back-to-back MVP a couple years ago. This feels bigger than Brady because it's so controversial, and Aaron's polarize, Brady's not polarizing, he's the go.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Okay, from a gambling standpoint, when Brady left to go to Tampa instantly, Tampa shot up the rankings as odds were, you know, win the Super Bowl. Rogers ain't moving the meter as much with the Jets because it's the AFC, and you, I don't know if we'll change on this, but you have them not making the playoffs. I think the Jets over-under was Zach Wilson would be four, I think with Aaron it would be nine and a half. It's not four. Come on.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Nine and a half? Yeah, it feels. You think that's wrong? Let's see what happens with the draft and the rest of free agency? Because I'll be honest. Jets have a pretty damn good roster. It's young, but it's pretty damn good. It's unproven.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Jacksonville Jaguars, I know they play in a joke of a division. Jets have a better roster than the Jaguars. I wouldn't say that. Good luck. I mean, you could look at the Buffalo Bills and Jets and put them side by side. And other than the big difference at quarterback, Alan versus Rod. Well, Stefan Diggs. Stefan Diggs is good.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Garrett Wilson's not that much worse than him. I mean, listen, the Jets are close to the bills in terms of roster. They won seven games with Chris Trevler, Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco. I didn't know football season ended at Thanksgiving. A lot of people are good until Thanksgiving. Then the big boys play. Now you've got to take shots at my team, huh? Weather track.
Starting point is 00:32:52 Well, I mean, they could not score touchdowns. I just rallied off the quarterbacks. I mean, you could have gone in there and thrown a couple T-D passes. weren't you QB1 in high school? That was... All right, maybe we'll move on to a quarter. Bailey was engineering touchdown. The Jets couldn't score a single touchdown in games
Starting point is 00:33:10 multiple times at the end. A lot of rookies... The town's not as good as you think. The House went down. It was season over. Okay. Let's move on to Andy Dalton, who's still in the league. Inexplicably,
Starting point is 00:33:22 signed a two-year deal with the Panthers. Your guy, Frank Reich. Andy Dalton's on his fifth team in fifth years, which makes him, I guess, the Russell Westbrook of the United. NFL? It's a backed up contract. They're going to draft a quarterback. He may start in September. I talked to Frank Reich this morning. We didn't talk about Andy Dalton. But, you know, I mean, it's a backup quarterback. He's not a long-term guy. It's kind of a Trubisky, a Sam Darnold. It's Baker Mayfield to Tampa.
Starting point is 00:33:46 Those are backup numbers. They may start in September, but that's not what the few. Donald could start in September if Purdy's not ready. Baker will start in September over Kyle Trask. Dalton could start in September over Anthony Richardson, but these are backup quarterback deals. Yeah, totally agree. All right. Final story. After losing their leading receiver,
Starting point is 00:34:04 Jacobi Myers, to the Raiders, Patriots have made some calls. Yeah. Looking at a receiver. Now, the athletics, Jeff Howe says sources, the Patriots have called about DeAndre Hopkins.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Like him. And Jerry Judy. I would take DeAndre Haute tomorrow. Judy was like a first round pick recently. Was he not? He's not. I'm not a Judy guy. He's fast.
Starting point is 00:34:27 To Jeff Howe of the Athlete. They also attended O'Dell Beckham Jr's workout in Arizona. They're in the receiver market, but, and this is the key point, the price point remains a key component. I would bring O'Dell Beckham in for $8 million a year. He wants $20. I think O'Dell Beckham can still play. I just can't build a receiving core around him, but is there really dynamic two? Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:34:50 O'Dell's always been, he never gets tired. Hold on, Alan Lazzar. Hold on. Alan Lazzar got four years, 44. Yeah, Alan Lazzar doesn't get hurt, and he's a big, receiver. Beckham's whole issue is he's brittle. You're not getting 17 games. If you get 12, but I would
Starting point is 00:35:05 make him a two or a three, I'd pay him $8 million a year. Odell's really talented. Would you give up a one for Jerry Judy? Oh, God, no. God, a five, a four. Stop. What is Jerry Judy ever done in the league? He's barely been in the league, and he had Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson last. No, Jerry Judy is a five, a
Starting point is 00:35:23 four. Oh, he's an amazing route. Jaylen Ramsey was a three. You think I'm given a, you think a four's out outrageous for Jerry Judy? I think that's out. I would consider a late second round pick. He's very good. This guy... God, I would love to negotiate against you.
Starting point is 00:35:39 All right. So what about DeAndre Let's do deals? DeAndre Hopkins. Oh, DeAndreis, excellent. Would you rather bring in Hopkins or Judy? Hopkins? Not even close. Not even close. Injuries. Oh, who cares? He's good.
Starting point is 00:35:53 So, okay, just remember, hey, you can be like Belichick and be tough and unyielding. Just remember, you got Mac Jones, no receivers, none. In maybe the second toughest division in the AFC. You've got to get somebody. You've got to spend some money to make some money. Well, they got a young receiver I like.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Who? I forget his name. It starts with the T. They don't have anybody good in that receiving room. That's one of the weakest receiving rooms in the AFC. It's not great. It's not great. To Kobe Myers.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Hunter Henry. Decent tight end. Good backs. Solid O-Line. Max very solid. A lot of solid. Go get a number one receiver. make it work.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Yeah, Jerry Judy, go grab him. He's not a number one receiver. Your boy, Sean Payton, is negotiating with Velichick. Who's going to win that deal? I kind of like these tug-of-wars, you know? Jets versus Packers, Belichick versus Peyton. I think I'm very reasonable. Green Bay, if you said, I want to see what the over-under is.
Starting point is 00:36:50 What's Fandle's Over-Under on the Packers and Jets tomorrow? If the deal gets finalized. My guess is the Packers are eight and a half. half, Jets are nine and a half, I would bet Jets under Packers over. Well, yeah, you're going to want to bet AFC unders, NFC overs. Yeah. Because the range of outcomes. So let's put it down.
Starting point is 00:37:09 I'm going to guess Jets with Jordan Love will be eight and a half. No, no, Packers, right? Or Packers with Jordan Love eight and a half. That sounds right-ish. Jets in the tougher NFC nine and a half with Aaron. Nine to nine and a half. Well, they know, listen, and it's weird now because there's gambling in New York and they know Jets fans are going to be coming in hand over fist with money,
Starting point is 00:37:30 so they're going to jack up the total a little bit. You think 10 maybe to bring in some hundreds? I would not be surprised 10 for the Jets. Remember, Russell Wilson last year with Denver was a big double-digit number. Yeah, I know. They didn't come closest to you. Yeah, I know. I doubled down on that, I know.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Yeah, I was a loser as well. I am just curious. There's a scenario where the Jets win like six games with Aaron Rogers or maybe 12, right? There's a large gap in outcomes. What could happen with this young team? As you like to say, he won the MVP two years ago back to back. Yeah. So they could be a 12 win team.
Starting point is 00:38:05 If Tua got hurt. Well, Tua gets hurt every year. But if things break their way, they could win 12 now. They play the AFC West. Rogers looking old and washed. Could be 6, 7, 8, and then everybody loses their jobs. At least we're talking Jets. I can't.
Starting point is 00:38:23 America loves it. All right. Yes, Aaron Rogers since Friday, my attention. to play and play for the Jets. That's been broken today. Good stuff. J-Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. A lot of stuff going on. Maybe Greg
Starting point is 00:38:38 Jennings will stop by it. We've got a lot of stuff. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, I'm Doug Gottlie. The podcast is called All Ball. We usually talk all basketball all the time, but it's more about the stories
Starting point is 00:38:53 about what made these people love their sport and all the interesting interactions along the way. We talk to coaches, we talk to players, we tell you stories. You download it, you listen to it, I think you like it. Listen to All Ball with Doug Alib on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:39:55 or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. Starting point is 00:41:11 Listen to Stuff to Boar Your Mind on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. NetSuite.com slash heard. If you want to control inventory, e-commerce, and more, NetSuite by Oracle, NetSuite.com, slash... heard. So Aaron Rogers, multiple quotes today. It's either a retirement or he's playing for the Jets. Aaron made it very clear. The Packers are moving off Aaron Rogers. They told him that over a month ago. He wishes they would have given him a heads up. I think that's an unfair criticism of Green Bay. So Packer fans, it's Jordan Love. Jet fans, it's probably, probably Aaron Rogers. The terms now not quite complete.
Starting point is 00:41:55 but the Packers told Aaron, we're moving off. That's what I felt from the very beginning was the move. Rip the Band-Aid off. It does not mean Aaron's not really good. I would still take him over 80% of the league. So we'll play Roger or Dodge. You give me the quarterbacks. Would I take Aaron or this quarterback?
Starting point is 00:42:16 Let's start with the quarterback. The Jets might have been looking at. Aaron Rogers or Matt Stafford next season. They're both expensive. I take Aaron because Matt's got. multiple injuries, and let's be honest, Aaron's had a couple of collarbone issues, but right now we don't know about Stafford's health. He had the tennis elbow. It was worse than we thought. Neck, back, I'd go Rogers.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Disagreement to start it. How about Rogers or two a tongue of Iowa next season? Rogers, one more concussion for two, and that career could be over. That's an easy one. A little tougher here. Aaron Rogers or Dak Prescott next year? Rogers remains an elite talent next two to three years. If he's playing, he's much better. There's proof. The more you ask Dak to do, the more mistakes Dak makes. You can put much more on Aaron's table. Okay. Aaron Rogers or Jalen Hertz next season? Jalen Hertz. Friendlier contract, much more mobile, just moving into his prime for the next seven to eight years. Aaron no longer runs as much, as you pointed out earlier, rushing numbers declining,
Starting point is 00:43:25 so I get an ascending, more affordable quarterback, an aging, expensive quarterback. And I think Hertz has sort of a vibe, a very verbal, communicative, all in. He's a leader. Aaron Rogers, oh, boy, you're not going to like this. Or Jimmy Garoppolo next season.
Starting point is 00:43:42 Aaron, not particularly close. Aaron can make every throw. Garapolo's not much of a sideline thrower. Interesting. Do we forget Aaron Rogers lost a golf in the season finale? Well, whatever. Rogers or Kyler Murray next season. It's actually pretty close. I take Aaron
Starting point is 00:43:56 because there's so much unknown. I know what I get with Aaron. He's prickly. He can be high maintenance, but he's still great. With Kyler, give me another six months on Kyler. I don't know where he's at, where the team's at. It's just, you should put a question mark by Kyler. I don't know where I'm
Starting point is 00:44:12 at right now. Aaron Rogers or Denver's Russell Wilson. Who would you rather have next year? This minute, Aaron Rogers, I got to see Russell with Sean Payton. By September 28, I may pick Russell, but he's got to get rebooted because he could not hit a deep throw. He refused to run. So I don't even know, again, let me watch him play four games and I may switch it.
Starting point is 00:44:37 But Russell stopped running and could not hit deep balls. I'm a little surprised at this much Rogers love, Cowherd. Aaron Rogers or Jared Gough next season. Well, Gough is 11 years younger, so I take Gough. Neither one runs anymore. I get a guy that's 11 years younger, I would take golf. And I like golf more than everybody else, apparently in North America. Rogers or Derek Carr next season?
Starting point is 00:45:00 Rogers. Derek has a record that is 16 games under 500. Aaron's got a better arm. Wow. I just think he can make every throw. This is Aaron Rogers or Mac Jones next season. I like Mac more than most. I take Aaron.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Yeah. Rogers or Kirk Cousins? Kirk is not good in prime time. Aaron can be disappointing in prime time, but Aaron can also be great in primetime big games. I'd take Aaron. Rogers or Trevor Lawrence? Easy one, Trevor Lawrence. He's an ascending, bigger, more mobile, totally committed.
Starting point is 00:45:42 That's one of the five or six easy ones. I get a bigger, stronger athlete who at this point is ascending, cheaper, moves better, and is completely utterly committed to the sport in-season off-season. And finally, Aaron Rogers or $82 million guaranteed man, Daniel Jones next season. Daniel could be free. I'll take Rogers. I really, I think Daniel Jones with Darren Waller, they're going to draft some receivers. Daniel will be fine. In that division, NFC, he'll be fine. I do have to say, Colin. So if you look at all the statistics on Rogers, football outsiders, pro-football focus,
Starting point is 00:46:20 he had a average year at best last season. He did. He's now 39 years old. I know he was working with young receivers. Do you see him returning to like MVP-ish form with the Jets? No, but I think he'll be a very good A-minus quarterback. Like a top-10 quarterback. Because he definitely was not last season.
Starting point is 00:46:39 Yeah, 100% not. Somewhere 8, 9-10. Sure. That's great. You can win Super Bowls with that. You can win Super Bowls with top 10 quarterbacks. Aaron will be good enough to win a Super Bowl. I just, I think the Jets, young offensive players,
Starting point is 00:46:49 young offensive line. They're not proven players. Robert Sala, I don't know how good he is. I think their defense is fine, but I don't think their defense. The schedule is much tougher, so their defense will not rank as highly as last year because they're going to face Allen twice, you know, Mahomes, Herbert. Well, they faced Allen twice last year. I don't think the Jets defense will be as good.
Starting point is 00:47:09 The offense will be better, and they'll win nine games. See you tomorrow. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite, on Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
