This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Listen and learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast.
Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific.
Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRedio.com
or stream us live every day in the IHart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
The herd rolls on. Colin Isouay. Don't worry. He's enjoying himself.
And in the meantime, you got me. Ben Mallor. Host the overnight show.
Ben Mallor.
FSR, you can't sleep. You have insomnia.
Come out with the creatures of the night. I'll be on tonight.
Double-Header duty. And Rob Parker doing double-heder duty as well.
That's right. The odd couple, 7 to 10 p.m.
with Chris Broussard, Fox Sports Radio Eastern.
Make sure you join us.
You know, we are very opposite people, me and Chris.
We're not the same.
Yeah.
No, you guys go at it.
And it's legit.
It's not a stick.
It ain't a stick.
You know it, Ben.
You know I don't play that game.
No, you guys disagree on a lot of things.
So you can check that out coming up today.
And we're here for this hour as we continue on the herd.
And I wanted to circle back around to the.
to the J-E-T-S
suck, suck, suck, no more?
I don't know.
How's Fireman Ed doing?
Has anyone done a wellness check on Fireman Ed?
I mean, this is like the Jets are getting all the tension.
I don't think he can do that Jets thing with handcuffs, right?
No.
No?
Anyway, so everyone's buzzing about the Jets and all this.
So they were on Hard Knocks, and how many, is this,
is this the final episode of Hard Knocks or is there one more?
So I think there's one more episode of Hard Knocks.
And so they've done a wonderful job.
The people in NFL films are amazing.
I've known this since I was a kid, Rob.
Back, you know, I'm old.
So when I was playing high school football, I'll be like my high school football days.
But the coach to get us fired up would play NFL films videos, like season in review videos.
And they would make some of the most god-awful teams.
I remember there was one about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And they did this document.
and the bucks were terrible, and they played at the, was it the sombrero, I believe it was what they called the stadium there?
Yes.
Creamsicle uniforms.
Creamsicles, yes.
But I was convinced after I watched this documentary that Tampa was about to win the Super Bowl.
And they were just dreadful.
But it's the way they tell the story.
So they've done this with Hard Knocks and they've been...
They did it with the Lions last year with Dan Campbell.
Oh, Dan Campbell.
Oh, what a great talker.
Lions didn't make the playoffs.
You remember?
Oh, yeah.
But by Lions standards, they had the greatest season they could possibly have.
No, they did not.
The bar is very low there in Detroit when it comes to the Lions, right?
You'd admit that.
You'd admit the bar is not that high.
When they gave up 350 yards on the ground of Carolina, is that?
We all have bad days.
We all have bad days.
Anyway, so the Jets getting the full treatment here, and they are getting the manny and the petty from NFL films, all-inclusive.
Everything's covered.
They're full body massage.
And give you a little taste here of what it's been like, the latest installment over there at HBO.
Here is Aaron Rogers.
Let's do the one with practice.
Not a game.
Not a game.
We're talking about practice.
Here's Aaron Rogers, who is scolding his teammates.
And, of course, this is a very important soundbite is it's being used to show you how things are different now with the jets.
Take a listen.
Mistakes of one basic at 12 to 14 yards.
Mistakes in one damn drive.
It's unbelievable.
Drop three balls in three wrong routes and a...
false start. You know that sounds
like to me, your old buddy Lou Panella
when he was managing the Tampa Bay Rays. Remember that
clip in the dugout when he was walking
through the dugout and he, this is why you
guys suck. This is why you guys
lose all these games. Let me tell you, Lou was the
manager when I covered the Reds in Cincinnati.
He was a gem.
Sports writer's dream?
Sports writer's dream. You know, he played
in New York so he had a lot of
practice dealing with the media and
Lou had all the jokes, all
the good stuff. He knew
to give us the media stuff.
He was great.
I mean...
That's what it reminded me of, the tone of Aaron Rogers.
And so this is being presented, as we said, as a way to describe how things are different.
And people are loving...
It's not just jet fans, but it's the Sven Ghali effect where people, they see this, and they're like, okay.
And this is no research on my part.
This is just off the top of my head.
But I feel like, and I don't have anything to back this up, that if you go back the last
five or six years. The team that's on
Hard Knocks gets
more attention. The casual
gambler is convinced that
hey, this team's going to be good. I remember the Cleveland
Browns were on there a few years ago, and
people were like, the Browns, Baker Mayfield.
Don't you remember when they got OBJ
and everybody had them going to the Super Bowl?
But the Hard Knocks thing, I think it was a big
part of that, and it's the Hard Knocks
effect. You know who loves it? The
gambling houses, the casinos love it,
the sports books, because people, they
bet their money, it's free money. Here's more.
from hard knocks. This is from the
last exhibition game
that Jets played against the Giants
and there was a back
and forth, Aaron Rogers
this is audio
behind the scenes audio,
Jihad Ward of the Giants
and listen to the back and forth.
Bro?
That's that. Show some respect, bro.
Come on, what the fuck is that? Five damn six. I don't know who you are.
I don't know who you don't know. You don't know.
I'll ever hurt you.
Drops back.
Love sports. Front left pylon.
And I gave him the line that's uncomebacked with a bull.
I said, I don't even know who you are.
But he said, he said, I don't know who you are.
I said, bull.
I think he said, I don't know who you is, though.
Is that right?
Technicality.
You know, I teach at USC, I'm just saying.
You're a professor.
That's right.
I'm impressed.
I'm impressed by that.
I would be afraid of any football player on the other team
who doesn't know that Aaron Rogers is a Hall of Fame quarterback.
Really?
You don't know who he is?
No, but I'm on Jihad Ward's side.
You know, we're equals in that moment.
Yeah, maybe you're better than me and you have more money.
No, but don't ask like you don't know who he is.
Come on.
That's great.
That reminds me of the old Stern show back in the day when they used to send Stuttering John out to the red carpet.
And he's, I don't know who you are.
Why are you famous?
I think that was the guy.
Why are you famous?
And celebrities would get so upset.
They'd be so angry.
Like, how could you dare ask me that?
That's funny.
Stuttering John.
You have a stuttering John story?
By the way, I did not plan when I came into the calling Coward show mentioning Stuttering Johns.
No, I'm not going to say it.
We'll save that.
All right.
No, I hear you.
Listen, the whole Jets thing, and they had a – at one point, they had a Sopranos vignette where they showed Robert Sala, like the famous opening scene of the Sopranos, with Tony Sopranos driving in on a Jersey turnpike.
And they showed Robert Sala in the car and all that.
And so here we are.
The season is about to begin next week.
Jets open up on Monday night.
not this Monday, the next Monday against the Buffalo Bills.
And is it going to be good, bad, or ugly for the JETS in 2023?
I think that they'll be better than they were a year ago,
but just talk about Super Bowl and just the AFC with all the good teams and what happens.
And I think the jets are in a different place.
They've talked enough.
They've been built up.
Team, they're not going to sneak up on anybody.
that's what they did a year ago when they won seven games and then their season collapsed
and they didn't have a quarterback.
Aaron Rogers is going to make them better.
How much better?
I just don't see them going to the Super Bowl.
And I think there's a good chance that the Jets could wind up being the Mets.
And I know people don't want to hear that comparison.
But the Mets won 101 games last year, Ben.
They did.
They added Justin Verlander, an MVP, I mean a Cy Young winner and a comeback.
player of the year. So you would
think they're going to be better, right? The Mets
are going to the World Series. They'll have Scherzer,
they'll have Verlander at the top of their
rotation. You go into a three-game series.
You like the odds? I love the odds.
Yeah, you would think.
It didn't happen.
Looks good on a computer, like on your phone when you're looking at the
right. Look at that rotation. Oh, yeah.
This could go to the World Series. So my
point is, it ain't just
paper and adding a quarterback,
a Hall of Fame quarterback,
adding water, stirring, and you're going to the Super Bowl.
I remember when Brett Farb started 8 and 3 with them, right?
They did not...
I don't think they made the playoffs that year.
They started 8 and 3.
They didn't make the playoffs.
Yeah.
So I'm not there.
If you gave me a thousand bucks of funny money
and you put me in a sports book in Vegas or Jersey or New York,
whatever, I would bet it's more likely the Jets don't
make the playoffs and get to a Super Bowl this
season? No, I think that they can make the playoffs.
Look at that AFC. Look at
that AFC. That is loaded.
They're not as good as Kansas City. They're not as good as
Cincinnati at the very top. But the extra
team that they have and Buffalo,
I'm telling you, there's cracks in the
arm of the way that they're playing the playoffs.
There are cracks. But Buffalo, I don't
think those cracks will pop up until later in the
year. I'm not sure. I don't
feel the same way about Buffalo. I thought
they were on the verge. Ben, I just
don't have that. Last year,
was weird. If you remember, they
opened the season, and I think they
scored 73 points in the first two
games. They destroyed the Rams
before that they, the Rams fell apart,
right, in the opener. So everybody was
like, my God, the defending
champs got throttled. Then the next
week they throttled somebody else.
They had like 73 points.
They looked unstoppable, and then the middle
of the season came. They weren't the same.
And then they went out with the whimper in the playoffs.
I'm off, I'm off Buffalo.
I love Buffalo wings, but
I'm not loving Buffalo Bills.
I don't love the bills, but the bills are going to be fine during the regular season.
And at some point, there'll be a moment with Stefan Diggs.
Mary had the hissy fit in the playoffs against Cincinnati, the meltdown and the whole thing.
And he'll be the scapegoat.
He'll be the one that's the outcast in Buffalo and all that.
But as far as, like, you can see certain scenarios play out.
You know, in my head, you have the cartoon bubble over my head where you look at Miami,
and I hope to see Miami's going to open up with the Chargers, actually.
I might actually go to that game.
We'll see.
But you look at the dolphins, and they're loaded.
They have a legit defensive coordinator.
Vic Fangio, one of the great defensive minds in the NFL, allegedly.
And he's got some good players and all that.
So the dolphins should be wonderful this year.
But Tua, is he going to play all season?
And is he going to be there at the end of the season?
And that is a legitimate concern.
But I look at the Jets.
and Aaron Rogers at his age, and he's been hurt in Green Bay.
He missed some time.
He didn't play in the last couple years.
The last three years of his time in Green Bay, there were some games he missed here and there.
They also won two MVP's, and I think he's going to be healthy.
I know you're going to poo-poo his thumb.
But, Ben, you can't tie your shoes without your thumb.
You know what I mean?
You could.
You could.
You could.
You need your thumb.
You could.
This is what separates us from animals, is the thumb.
The thumb's the key.
But if you use your shoes.
these two fingers like scissors
and then you could probably
it would not be a tight
shoelace tie but you could
I was a boy scout I was a Cub Scout
and you could tie it would not be
firm like the thumb is obviously very important
but you still have one thumb
see he had one working thumb I both his thumbs
were not injured no but the one
on his throwing hand you know
what when Siskel and Iber didn't have
their thumbs their shows went down
I'm just saying Cisco and I like
that I was a big fan
Back in the day, I was a sport.
Here we go.
We actually have some news here.
Well, we got breaking news.
Well, not breaking news, but Joe Burrow, we are told, back today.
Bengals practicing today.
Joe Burrow back at practice.
He got a contract, no contract.
No contract.
And he was wearing, I love the reporting on this.
Joe Burrow in helmet and shoulder pads.
So, that's, now it's serious.
Well, if the football writers have to,
they're standing around for four hours.
hours, man. They've got to say something.
I hear you. I hear you. But
helmet, think of a football player going to
practice in a helmet and shoulder pads.
Oh, wow. Pretty impressive, right?
That's also something that's changed with social
media the last few years. I love
the pitch counts in practice
how many throws a quarterback makes.
Like you're putting numbers there.
No, they're just something to do.
Spring training's the same in baseball. They do
a lot of stuff. I don't know about that.
I don't know about that. Anyway.
So you have the jet
It's not making the playoffs.
Is that what you're saying?
I want you on the record here on the herd.
Yes.
But making great sports radio.
And shows like Colin Coward's going to have a field day when he comes back and talking about the Jets
issues and all that.
And we'll have a field day on our shows complaining.
It's going to be great content.
And that's really, I'm in it for the content.
That's what I'm about.
I'm in it for the content.
And so...
It's always about the best story.
People say it to me all the time.
Oh, how come you hate this person?
How come you hate this?
No, no, no.
I'm looking for the best story.
It's not personal.
Right, it's never personal.
We don't really know a lot of these people.
I don't have any skin in the game, and that's what people don't understand.
We don't have skin in the game.
That's why, you know, you want to hear from guys like us.
A lot of guys who are former athletes are too close to it.
They got friends.
You're part of the fraternity.
You want to break the bubble of trust.
So they can't tell you what the real deal.
They got to couch it.
You know, how many times have you heard, don't be surprised if.
Hello?
Well, what did you tell us?
Did you tell us anything?
Yeah.
Don't be surprised if it means nothing.
Yeah.
Or they'll tell you something off the microphone and then on the air they'll tell you something, something totally different.
So it becomes, you're going to use your decoder ring to figure out what's actually going on.
I get that decoder ring out and go for it.
So is it a heavenly mistake?
We'll get to that.
and we will do it next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd
weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care which I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football,
or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement
to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw,
unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite
athletes, creators, and voices that
not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
One week, I'll take you behind the scenes
of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment.
And the next, we'll talk about life,
mental health, purpose, and even music.
The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast.
It's a space for honest conversations,
stories that don't always get told,
and for people who are chasing something bigger.
So if you've ever supported me
or you're just chasing down a dream,
this is right where you need to be.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that.
sentence.
I don't think there's a more important
year for black people. Really?
Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years
for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart
Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
The herd continues.
Hope you having a great day. It's Ben Mallor
and Rob Parker, in for Colin.
He'll be back soon. He's enjoying
himself. Let the man have some peace
before the madness of the NFL season
begins. You can hear me tonight.
You're up late, can't sleep overnight.
2 a.m.
My God, why is anyone on the radio at 2 a.m. Rob?
Because there were people, vampires up.
Yes, I love the vampires.
I'll be on late, and Rob will be on much earlier than me.
But you're going to chill out for a few hours, right, Rob?
Yeah, I got to do my podcast first.
Inside the Parker.
Make sure you subscribe, like, listen.
I'll have to do my podcast, the fifth hour podcast.
See?
I'll have to do that, yes.
You've got to get the podcast in there, so yes, I'll do that today.
You've done this before, Rob.
little bit. And then, yeah, then the odd couple tonight, 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern, right here on Fox Sports
Radio, Chris Bussar and I will mix it up for a couple hours, a couple three hours. Sparring,
shadow boxing, each other is what you guys are doing. Speaking of shadow boxing, the angels
who are getting destroyed. Now, I defend the angels for what they did at the trade deadline.
I love, they were three games out of a playoff spot. No, but they had no shot at winning bed.
That's not true. They were three games out. You go for it. No, you don't go for. You go for.
Yes, you go for it.
You didn't have Mike Trout and you didn't have enough pitching.
Trout was coming back.
No, but you didn't have enough pitching.
I was told all the geniuses in baseball told me Lucas G. Alito was the top pitcher available.
Why was he available?
They got him.
Why was he available from the White Sox?
You of all people, you have-Rop Parker, of all people, thought the Angels should have packed it in?
Yes.
That's a terrible take.
Yes.
That's a bad take by you.
No, listen, that is the modern day take.
You go for it.
You did the fan take.
And what you did, Ben, is you let your family...
I'm not even an Angels fan.
But I'm saying, like, that's what fans do.
Oh, we're only three games out.
Look at it.
You're not...
A, you got to move the guy
because you could rebuild the franchise
with some picks and some other stuff.
But you can't fall in love with the idea
that the Angels were going to make a run.
They weren't going to make a run with the pitching staff they had.
I disagree.
They weren't going to make a run with Trout coming back.
Here's my...
Let me explain.
All right.
would have said the same thing about the Philadelphia Phillies last season.
They got to the World Series.
The Atlanta Braves also were like a under 500 team midway through the season.
They got and they won the World Series in 2021.
But they're not, those aren't teams that haven't done anything.
Mike Trout's been there for how many years better than they made one player.
Well, he's living a great life in Laguna Beach, though.
He's got a great home.
That's fine.
But they've been to the playoffs one time and you're telling me that you're putting all the chips in on the angels.
Stop.
Baseball, it's not football, it's not bad, we know that, it's baseball.
That is a sport where for one month, I wish it wasn't this way because I like the Dodgers
and they always have the top team, but in baseball for one month, you can find a little bit
of magic and you can end up getting to a World Series when you're not even the top team
in that sport.
And I love that the Angels went for it.
I am sick and tired of the give-up attitude of today, and everyone loves their draft picks
and minor league players.
and a prospect is a suspect until proven otherwise.
And so most of these prospects don't work out.
Anyway, the point of this, the Angels traded for Lucas Gialito,
and they traded for Randall Grisich from the Rockies,
and they are among the five players,
and also one of the relief pitchers they got in that trade from the White Sox.
I think there were a total of five players,
three pitchers, including Lucas Geolito,
who were put on waivers.
They said, that's it.
No moss.
They threw in the sponge, the Angels.
I hate this.
I know there's only a month ago.
They're not making the play.
I don't like it.
I don't like it.
This is what the Angels did.
This makes sense.
This is the dumbest thing they could have done.
You're out of it, right?
Why waste at bats and innings on players who are not going?
If you're not resigning Gialito and these guys, that makes no sense for them to continue to play for you.
You're not resigning them, Ben.
Go get the kids.
rosters expand the 40-man
to 40-man roster September 1st. Bring those kids up.
This is bipolar behavior.
You have traded at the deadline to make a run.
It didn't work out.
Otani went snap, crackle pop, whatever.
But now, with a month ago to save $7 million,
I thought you're a major league team.
You flush the toilet with $7 million in major league baseball.
It's not just the $7 million, but you'll get some young kids.
Those guys can't play.
I've seen them for 20 years they can't play.
Those same players have been to minor leagues for 20 years.
They weren't even born yet, but they can't play.
I've seen it, yes.
Instead, we're going to waste their bats and pitching innings on guys who are not going to be here next year.
The Angels did the right thing finally in the about time they got smart.
Lucas Shealito has gone out and been a gas can't.
I get it.
But he's a SoCal guy.
Why would you not, you need pitching?
Why would you?
He's been pretty good.
Not good with the Angels.
You're not bringing back.
You just said it.
He's been a gas can.
Yeah, but it's a small sample size.
No, it's not.
It is.
It's only a few starts with the angels.
They made a highlight reel about Gialito and it's entitled Burning Inferno.
I mean, that's what it is.
I mean, let's just be honest.
No, he's been bad.
He's been terrible.
You don't just put a guy out there based on his history?
You want them to go back and get Cindergarde as well?
Is that what you want?
Chuck Finley.
They need Chuck Finley back.
You get my point.
John Lackey.
You can't live in the past.
They won when they had John Lackey.
I remember pitching against the Yankees in 2009, too.
Pretty good, yeah.
And then he went to eat fried chicken and beer with the Red Sox.
Right.
He was in the clubhouse, right, and all that.
Yeah, but who hasn't done that, right, Rob?
I mean, my God.
Yeah, that got Frankona fire damn boss.
Yeah, yeah.
He had success in Cleveland.
Got the World Series with the old Indians back in the day.
But I don't like, and here's my, I have a,
I have a theory.
I have a conspiracy theory.
And there have been some other players that have also been put on waivers.
Not just, we're picking on the Angels, because Artie Muriel loves when we pick on the angels.
But they got rid of the non-waiver or the waiver trade debt.
Remember in years past, a couple years of they got rid of this where you could still trade players after the trade deadline.
It had to clear waivers.
So is this a effort to try to get that back to say, hey, wait a minute.
Why don't we, you know, because we're just going to release players.
Why don't we change it to the way it was?
And so then Lucas Gioito could go on trade waivers and then the Angels could have gotten something for him.
How about that?
Yeah, I understand that.
I just don't have an issue with a team going nowhere deciding not to just hold on to people.
What if you have tickets to the Angels?
Nobody went to go see him.
There's people that love it.
They live in a bubble in Orange County.
They love the Angels.
No matter they stink.
No, they still go.
I mean, you want to.
I'm going to a Padres game this Saturday.
Saturday. You know what I mean?
Well, good food at the ballpark there in San Diego.
Great ballpark. Great weather.
Great, is that?
Wonderful. Wonderful.
Now, when I worked in San Diego, they played at Qualcomm Jack Murphy, which was not.
You know, it's a little hot out there.
Well, also, that was like a football stadium, right?
Yeah, well, it was. Yeah.
And you know who Jack Murphy was, right?
Was he a sports? Sports writer?
Sports writer, yeah.
Can you remember a stadium being named after a sports writer?
Just think about that, Ben.
Where we've got from Jack Murphy Stadium and even Shea Stadium in New York.
Bill Shea was a guy who helped the Mets get in a, you know, New York getting an expansion national league team after.
Well, now they would name it if the sports writer happened to own Google.
Right.
That would be the only way.
The stadium after him.
But yeah, when I worked in San Diego, the podre, they had a fire sale years ago.
And I would go to Padre games and I would buy the cheapest ticket.
I go to those, you know, they call them back in those days, it's not politically correct, the businessman special.
I remember that.
And I'd go like Thursday afternoon and I'd buy the cheapest ticket.
And by the second inning, I was sitting behind either the visiting or the home dugout.
I chose which one I wanted to sit.
It was great.
I loved it.
There was no one there.
Great park now.
Oh, it's amazing.
And they were selling out, I don't know if they did that streak stop, but they were selling out that park every night.
It's been a disappointing year.
Padre fever has gone down quite a bit.
Just a little bit.
Just a wee bit.
It has gone down for the Pod Squad.
But the ballpark, I hope they don't, like every other city after 20 years, say we have to get a new ballpark.
That ballpark is beautiful.
be there a hundred years.
Long after we're gone.
In Atlanta, they got two brand new stadiums.
I know.
Every 20 years.
Every 20 years.
Yeah.
Aren't the Milwaukee Brewers kind of futsing around about getting a new stadium?
But they're indoor stadium where they are.
And Kansas City, too, they're ready to move out of there.
They're moving downtown.
They want to move downtown.
Yeah.
Maybe by then they'll actually put a competitive team on the field again.
It was only 2015.
They won the World Series.
Let's not act like it was 40 years ago.
Before my time.
2015, man.
I was a young pup in 2015.
I mean, not now.
Anyway, let's get you caught up on all the news with the music man.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right, gentlemen, we do have some baseball coming your way,
but we're going to turn our attention to the NFL for a bit.
The Chiefs trying to become back-to-back Super Bowl champs,
the first team to do that.
Good luck.
Patriots in the early 2000s.
They're going to do it, Rob Parker's not buying it.
I'm not buying it.
No.
No.
He's the new Brady.
He's the new Brady balls.
You know they just won by three, right, when they beat Cincinnati?
Still counts the same.
They still give you the same trophy.
Still let him move on and play for that Super Bowl, Rob.
Well, look, in order to do that, maybe this is why Rob's not a buyer.
They're probably going to need their star defensive tackle.
Chris Jones, who continues to hold out for a new contract.
Kansas City responded placing Jones on the reserve slash did not reportless NFL network reporting.
No new movement on that said contract.
I thought that.
when Mahomes signed that ridiculously
terrible contract, that that
was going to allow them to pay players
and hold on
and have a nucleus to win Super Bowl.
Isn't that what they told
everybody? Mahomes, what a great guy
he's doing like Brady. He's
taking less. He gave you a
team-friendly contract.
And guess what?
Some of their star players aren't getting paid.
That's why it's fraudulent.
It's a far, stopping.
But for Chris Jones,
He's got a contract.
This is football malpractice.
No one day?
He's been fine.
Two million dollars.
Every game he misses is over a million.
That's malfeasance.
He wants to get what he's worth.
If I got paid two million, I would think I've won the lottery.
My God, I would sell out of a party.
I'd invite you to the party with taking balloons.
You can't base what his salary earning potential is compared to you.
And the average show.
That's what people say all the time.
Oh, I would take.
a million dollars? Of course you would.
But he's not going to get that money
back, though. That's what I'm saying, Rob.
You can't retract the fines anymore
in the NFL. And he made a
fatal mistake. He said on
social media, Chris Jones, that
a fan asked him how long he was going to sit out
or something like that, I forget. But he said,
like week eight. Like, he's prepared
to lose over $8 million,
like $9 million by sitting out the
week. So if you're the Chiefs and you want to play
hardball, just wait.
He'll be fresh as a, you possibly
be around week nine and then
you're going to be in the playoff race anyway.
Well, maybe there are only three and five
after week eight and they need them.
Well, that's what he's betting on, right? He's betting on.
They're going to stand. Maybe? And your lions, who you
hate are going to put up 30 points against the
lions? Yeah, yeah, I don't know about that. My friend,
people in Detroit might disagree with that.
You know what? Rob, if you don't hate the lions, I'd love
to see what you say about people you don't
like. All I know is
best bet for the opener.
Take the cheese.
I'm going the other way.
I'm going the other way. I'm taking the line.
Wings in a die.
There you go, we'll do it.
You still owe me from that Brooklyn Nets bet we made a couple years ago.
Double or nothing. Double or nothing. We're doing.
Double or nothing. All right. We'll keep it in the NFL here.
Trey Lance, now a member of the Cowboys. We know this.
But speaking for the first time since the trade from San Francisco, he said this about his time with the 49ers.
quote, it's not how I expected it to go.
It's not how I think a lot of people expected it to go,
but I believe everything happens for a reason.
I think I'm here for a reason.
Regardless of what this is,
I'm just here trying to find a way to help the team.
Did he get that off sportscloschay.com?
A lot of the end of that there.
I feel like that was off sportscloschay.com.
But no, listen, Trey Lance, what are you going to say?
He didn't play much when he played.
It seemed like he was overmatched.
Clearly the 49ers thought he needed a lifeguard
because he was drowning out there when he was playing and they gave up on him.
And they'd rather have possibly Sam Darnold end up starting games if Brock Purdy gets hurt.
Be careful, Ben.
Careful what you say about Sam Darnold on the herd.
I know.
I know.
I got to protect.
I got to protect.
But, yeah, I, the Trey Lance thing is a cautionary tale.
But it's not going to stop teams in the future.
Trading multiple jobs.
I don't have a problem.
I'm not a draft pick guy.
I'm like the Rams, F them picks.
But if you're going to trade up to get a guy,
you've got to be really sure you're getting somebody
that can play more than five games.
What do I know?
You've got to give them an opportunity to play more than that.
He was sputtering, though.
But it tells you that they didn't do their due diligence,
and those guys in the front office,
I hope this blows up in their face, to be honest.
And then the 49ers, those guys will have to answer for it
because there's such a franchise back
that you gave up three first round picks.
Well, it hasn't, though.
That's the thing.
No, I'm just saying, not yet.
Not yet.
They're fine.
We'll see about Brock.
These are the new glory days for the 49ers.
We talked to a guy from football focus who says the Brock Purdy mystique and all the things that people are saying.
If he really do a deeper dive and look into that, his ability of what is not as grossy as people think it is.
I've seen some of that.
The advanced, the nerds on there on social media are like, well, look at this past could have been intercepted and all that.
I mean, you can do that with pretty much everybody if you want.
And it's a fun game.
I do recommend that because even the greats, like Tom Brady, your guy, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning.
You mean the Lote?
The luckiest of all time?
We already know that.
Yes.
You can work for the Raiders, Rob, and Tom can be your boss if you go work for the, no?
All right.
We'll wrap up with this.
Going back to Major League Baseball, Yankees obviously having quite a disappointing season.
Their outfield are Harrison Bader, not having a great season and unfortunate for him.
Things going from bad to worse.
He was placed on waivers, and here's him describing how he found out about that prior to yesterday's game.
I was in the lunchroom and saw it on CSPN.
I guess it popped up something all over there, so that's how I found out.
What was your reaction when you saw that news?
Like, what does waivers mean?
What I would have done is I would have had a second helping of lunch.
You know, he said he was in the lunchroom.
Eat up and then pack your bags and leave.
That's all.
I mean, what else is there to do?
That's a tough way to be let go.
Well, here's the thing, though.
Like, I've been, you know, listening.
Ben, how did they let you go?
They called us into a big meeting, and they said, get out of here.
Oh, it was a big meeting.
Everybody got whacked?
We all got.
I was part of a mass execution for people.
Yeah, but I've been fired a couple other times as well.
To me, and having been let go, there's no good way to get the news.
Like, we hear athletes.
I found out on Twitter.
This guy found out on television.
Is there a good way to find out, I?
You know what?
I'm always, I'm one of these guys.
I don't know if there's a good way, but there's definitely a bad way.
Well, your name's on TV, though.
Everyone wants to be on TV.
Come on TV.
Your name is on TV.
How does he not know what waivers are, by the way?
I know what waivers are, right?
When we got let go in Detroit on the radio, me and my partner, Mark Wilson,
we're doing a show Parker and the man, right?
So they called us.
They were asking, they said, can you guys come in early today?
So I said to Mark, I said we're getting fired today.
We had a show from 7 to 11.
Yeah.
There's no reason to come in early under any circumstance.
This was so, I told him, I said, we're going to get fired.
He said, what are you talking about?
Why would we have to come in early?
And guess what?
The night I got let go, the last time I got let go, there was a story that broke on the New York Post that said the company was going to lay off thousands of employees.
About 10 minutes later, I get an email.
I never get emails from anyone in management.
Middle of the night, I get an email.
There's a mandatory meeting at 2 o'clock tomorrow.
I was all about, I said, that's it.
It's all done.
This is it.
Goodbye, everybody.
Turn out the lights.
The party's over.
And sure enough, the next day, I was giving my pink slip and all that.
So, yeah, I mean, there's other times I've been like, I mean, something's great.
The one time that upset me, though, Rob, one of the other jobs I got to go from, they had decided to fire me on a Monday.
They cut the severance check on a Tuesday, but they made me work the rest of the week.
And so I was like, why not, you know, I mean, why would they have you work?
They told me on Friday after my shift, they said, you're out of here.
I said, and I looked at the date on the check, and it was cut on a Tuesday.
Wow.
It's not right, man.
That's not right at all.
It is the herd calling away.
Ben Mallor, Rob Parker, we roll on, and we are about to save you money.
You might say, I can't travel.
I can't afford to travel.
You know how expensive is to fly and stay in hotels, planes, trains, and automobiles?
Well, you are about to be educated by the number one connoisseur of travel.
Rob Parker's travel tips.
Nobody else has this content.
You're going to get it next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
I'm the king.
What's good, y'all?

Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all. Embedded
in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to?
Do a little kill.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have age.
on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The herd continues.
Colin Cowherd away.
You know that by now.
I would assume if not, bad job by you, not paying attention.
But it's me, Ben Mallor.
You can hear me later tonight on the overnight show on FF.
from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. My God, that's late. Who would be awake at that hour? I'll be there.
And the great Rob Parker, the legend, MLB bro, Rob Parker, right over there hanging out.
That's right.
And Rob will be on a few hours with Chris Broussard on his show on FSR. So double dipping.
No doubt. If there are anybody going to double dip, it would be me and you, Ben. And guess what?
Labor Day weekend is here.
I know. And it's time for the best for last.
It's almost the end of the show, but that doesn't mean we're phoning it in.
Nope, we grind to the very last segment.
It's time for best for last.
And Rob, I have known you for a number of years now.
Yes.
I always tell people, they ask me about Rob Parker.
The thing I bring up first, not the great baseball writer, not the amazing pundit and hot take guy.
No, I bring up the travel advice, because I am so jealous of you, Rob.
You are living the life that I hope to live, and I've been unable to live it,
of my wife and she does not allow me to do this.
But you know every Labor Day weekend, a great time to get out.
You know every little, I don't know, cheat code's the right way to describe it.
You know every little hack to save money and travel all over, you've traveled all over the world doing this.
Yes.
You know what?
All seven continents.
Ben, unbelievable.
Nice.
I mean, you know, Antarctica.
Can you imagine a kid from Jamaica, Queens, making it to Antarctica?
That was probably the most surreal when that.
boat got close and we got into these little
you know
floating what they call a rafts kind of things
and then got on land and I'm standing there
penguins and sea lions and all
that did they look at you like what are you
you know like but you know what's crazy
is that they didn't run away
humans here no they didn't run away because they've never been
hunted so they're not afraid
you know what I mean like the animals are just there
but I do travel a lot I'm always
I got like my schedule coming up
I told you I'm always
on the road.
I live for you because I, you know, we follow each other on social media.
One day you're in Costa Rica.
The next day you're in Connecticut or whatever.
All right.
So here we go.
I'm going to try to save you some money.
Okay.
Because this is how I do it.
You know, I don't have the big Colin Cowherd money.
I got, you know, Rob Parker.
Exactly.
You should write a book on this.
But you're giving this away for free.
This would cost thousands of dollars if you were to pay for this.
No doubt about it.
All right.
All right.
Always.
Anything you can cut corners, you know, you go to airport.
It's expensive to eat out, right?
Very expensive.
So the first key is you always want, make sure you bring your own tea bags, okay?
Okay.
What if you don't drink tea, though, right?
Well, you got to be a tea drink.
I understand.
My whole point is, I'm not paying $4 or $5 for a cup of hot water.
I hear you.
I could get 100 tea bags for $3.99.
So will they give you a cup of hot water if you just ask?
Most places will give you a free cup of hot water.
Okay.
So you got the tea taken care of right there.
I just saved you $5, $4 or $5.
Right?
All right.
Keep track of it.
So $5.
I'm saving you that.
All right.
Okay.
What's next?
All right.
You know, if you got to bring in a lot of clothes on your trip and they're going to
charge you to bring your bag on the flight.
So it might be like $45, $50, $60.
Yeah.
So what you do is you wear some extra things that you might.
So I might wear a couple of shirts underneath.
A couple of pants.
I got on three pair underwear.
I'm just saying.
Rob, you've been on television and radio for like 30-something years or longer than that.
And imagine somebody's sitting next to Rob Park.
I'm sitting next to a big TV guy, radio guy, and the plane, and you've got like seven layers of clothes.
I got clothes on.
I got ready to go in the winter in Boston or something.
And as soon as I get on, I could take a couple off and put them up or whatever.
Make sure you have a trash bag.
Sometimes I'll have like, you know, the bags you get groceries in.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The usable bags.
So once you get on, you can take some stuff off.
You don't want to be hot.
Okay, there's another way of saving money.
So you don't bring a suitcase?
There's no...
No, no, no, because I'm not paying.
Here's the other thing, too.
So that's $50, you say.
So for up to $55 now you're saying.
And then you don't want to.
The other thing is you leave clothes behind.
You never want to bring dirty clothes back.
Can't you just wash them though?
No, no, no.
Because I don't want to, like, you know,
you might want to buy some extra stuff or other things.
So I always leave clothes behind.
What I'll do, never underwear and underclothes for people.
That's gross.
but I'll wear like if I went on a trip and I have three golf shirts.
I'll leave two behind, leave a couple pair of pants,
leave some other stuff, I'll write a note for the maid or whoever cleans the room,
right, I don't know what they call them today. I want to be politically correct.
I don't know what they call.
Leave a note and it'll say, please, keep these things or donate them.
Now, is that your tip to the person cleaning the room?
That is your tip.
No, I'm not living any money.
Shirts and pants.
They might have a six.
Game used by Rob Parker
They might have a 6'4 kid
and needs a couple pair of pants
And a golf shirt or whatever
You never leave shoes though right
You can't leave your shoe guy
You can't leave any Nike
You're a Jordan's around you
I had a pair of Nike's that I left in Miami
No way
Because I had a pair of Jordans
As well when I went to Costa Rica
I left the Jordans in Miami
Took the Nikes to Costa Rica
I would have left them in Costa Rica
But I didn't have any shoes to wear back
From Costa Rica
so I had to wear them back, but I left him in Miami.
Okay.
All right.
So you're up to $55.
Plus, no, I've just saved another because I'm not having another bag.
Oh, that's right.
So, okay.
That's another $50.
Okay, so $105.
Okay, here we go.
Deceit.
You don't want to pay for extra.
You need extra leg room.
I do.
That's a big problem I have.
I always get the emergency exit row.
They charge extra for that, though.
But what you do is you wait until the very last minute to check in.
You know why?
Why is that?
Nobody wants to pay extra for the best.
seats. So when the other seats fill up, they have to give you the exit road. Those are the only
seats that are left. So you wait to the very last second and all the other middle seats fill
up. And nobody wants to pay, Ben, so the butts left? I can't, in my wife, she's like so paranoid
when we travel, she's like right away when the thing pops up on your phone to check in,
she immediately checks in. And I got to tell you, the Rob Parker way, you wait to the very end.
Does that make sense? I like it. Totally makes sense. Yeah, it does. Because they have to give me a seat.
and they have to, and the only thing that's available,
exit rolls because most people don't want to pay the extra fee.
Yeah.
And they nickel.
I was in Boston a couple weeks ago, they nickel and dime you on everything.
On everything.
And when you travel too and you got friends or whatever and you're taking people,
you know how you like to eat out lunch with a lot of people.
So you always remember, always go to the restaurants with the two-for-one coupons.
You don't have to tell your friend that you have a two-for-one.
You get up, you go away from the table, you wave over the waitress,
and you slider the two-for-one coupon.
Okay.
And your friend, you know, they don't need to know.
They don't need to know.
No, it's the gesture.
It doesn't matter.
Do you care if I pay for the lunch or not?
No.
All you know is that you didn't pay for it and you had a free meal.
Exactly.
Now, you don't want to be the person, though, when you say, like, you can only order the spaghetti
because that's the two-for-one.
You don't want to be that guy.
I have been like, just get the spaghetti.
You look like a spaghetti guy.
Let me tell you.
I don't put it like that.
I go, it's the best thing on the menu.
Trust you.
No, that's it.
I get that New York salesmanship.
My man.
So there you go.
I'm saving you money, Ben.
Okay.
That's it.
I love the fact that you show up to a city.
Sometimes these cities you've never been to and you're like, oh, go buy a few t-shirts or underwear or whatever.
I love that.
Yes.
Why would you pay money to bring underwear and t-shirts and then you're going to leave it behind?
Leave it behind.
Listen, and I don't, you know, we want to say the name of the airline, but you've got, you're in the right spirit when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Yes.
100%.
You're a good spirit about you when you're traveling around.
and all that stuff.
You know, I would go, but I don't like taking time off.
That's the other problem.
Like, I feel, I don't know, I feel guilty when I take time off.
I shouldn't.
I blame the station I worked at in San Diego.
Take time off when you own time.
I know.
I work all the time, but I take time off.
Yeah.
No doubt.
I remember I had a boss, you said, Ben, you need work-life balance.
I said, what is that?
What the, by the way, I'll be back tonight at 2 a.m.
And Rob, you'll be on in a few hours.
That's right.
Seven o'clock, Eastern.
Check it out.
On the herd.
See you next time.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,

Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hardway
with your favorite therapist
and host, Kear Games.

who knows what he's doing.

Listen to learn the hard way on the AHA radio app,
Apple Podcast,
wherever you get your podcast.
This is an IHeart podcast.
Guaranteed human.
