Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:07 I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app,
Starting point is 00:01:32 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeart Radio app
Starting point is 00:01:55 by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. When an intruder threatens your home, SimpliSafe's new 24-7 live guard protection is there to help. Agents can speak to and deter them through the camera. Right now, get 20% off any SimplySafe system at Simplysafcollan.com. There's no place like SimplySafe.
Starting point is 00:02:22 All right, Rick Buecker's in the building. Yeah, you introduced that intruder thing. And I was immediately like, are you talking about him? When the intruder comes in. The call is coming from inside the house. So Rick Buecker's here. Obviously, we'd love to talk NBA. I'm thankful he took the private jet back from the Hampton's party with all the NBA players over the weekend.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Yeah. He was hanging out with Joel Embed and James Hardin and the like. I do what I can. I'm here for you, J. Mack. Of course you are. Let's get started. So I had this, not that hot take, lukewarm that Joel Embed should say, wait a second, Mori.
Starting point is 00:02:53 James Hardin wants out. I saw this mess with Ben Simmons. did not end well. There's no good trade offers for James Harden. I don't want to lose Maxie. Just get me the hell out of here. I'm high value. Trade me. I just won the MVP. I watched Denver with Yokic build a title contender. We've had five different champions in the last five years that I can't get to a conference finals. Do you think Joila would Embed would be within his right to go demand a trade? No, because I think he's been culpable for their shortcomings. It's not like he has, look, he won MVP, but when it comes to their failings in the postseason,
Starting point is 00:03:27 He's had as much of a hand in those as anybody else. And I dare say that they have looked to build something around him in Philadelphia. He's beloved in Philadelphia. I see a much greater chance of James Harden going and Darry going than I do, Joelle M.B. going anywhere. And here's the thing. Where's he going to go? If he's going to go someplace, if he's going to go someplace to be, to get closer to winning a championship, then chances are he's going to go in to play with an already established star.
Starting point is 00:04:01 If I'm Joelle M. Bid, I want that star to come to me. I want to be Dwayne Wade in Miami. LeBron, I'm not coming to Cleveland. You come on down to Miami. Leon Rose is his former agent, and he's now running the Knicks. The Knicks have a war chest, I believe six future first in the next four years. Something insane. They have a lot of future picks.
Starting point is 00:04:22 They've got a budding star, not a star in Jalen Brunson, I'd take Brunson over Hardin and probably Maxie right now. I don't know about you with the Maxi, but is it crazy to think that the Sixers say, you know what, this isn't working, let's trade Hardin, let's get as much as we can, bottom out quickly, and reboot this puppy? No chance. They did that. We did the process.
Starting point is 00:04:42 We have been doing the process. And fortunately, after those four or five years and me having to listen to all the Philly fans on how brilliant and smart this was, they got one guy out of it, Joelle M. Bede. And now you want to trade that one guy that those four or five years of abject misery produced? No, I'm not giving up on Joelle M. Bede at this point, not only reigning MVP, but if he can ever get in the right condition, get the right pieces around him, allowing to mature a little bit, I still have the belief that Joelle M. Bid is capable of being the centerpiece of winning a championship. And I would want to do it. If I'm him, I want to do it where I started rather than go to
Starting point is 00:05:29 join somebody else. I love how Rick says the right pieces around him. Well, they tried Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris. Now they're trying Hardin and Maxie and Harris. I mean, they're trying. Like, my problem, okay, let's envision a hardened scenario. Yeah. Don't tell me this Clippers thing with Norm Powell and a Morris twin is going to get it done. Mory doesn't do deals like that historically. He wants stars, not middle class. Very. true, but this is my question because James Harden took a team-friendly deal last year in order for them to sign PJ Tucker. And everybody thought it was cap circumvention. And my understanding was the expectation, well, he was going to opt out and then they were going to reward him with a bigger
Starting point is 00:06:15 contract. That hasn't happened. And so it leads me to believe that Daryl Morey doesn't have the standing with the Philadelphia 76ers that he once did. That he's not able to take care of his guy. Ooh. And that's why James Hardin is upset at this point, because I did you a solid, and now I'm not getting rewarded for doing that. So, but whether, that's why it may not necessarily be Daryl Morey's choice in what they do moving James Hardin and what they take back.
Starting point is 00:06:50 we saw at the i don't know if you you saw at the at the party yeah in the hamptons josh harris owner of the sixers was talking to james hardin and so we'll see where that goes it wasn't darrell moore that was there it was harris and hart and mb and tucker i mean depending on who you read harden might have got dock river shoved out you buying that hmm i i think doc was in in a precarious a situation already just because of the shortcomings. Hardin didn't help, but who they brought in, I'm less convinced of that because of who they brought in and the very lukewarm reaction that Nick Nurse had to coaching James Hardin. Right, that went down. Yeah, it was funny. We made fun of it. Yeah. If they were moving dock out, presumably it was to get a coach that
Starting point is 00:07:49 that James was more in tune with. And I got no sense that those two were singing the same song. So, yeah, I think it was more Doc was supposed to come in and turn that thing. You got the MVP. Yeah. And there was this constant battle with,
Starting point is 00:08:05 I do think Hardin had a part in it in that they couldn't figure out, like, who are we supposed to play through? And I was shocked that Doc was saying, well, we need to play through Hardin. For the better part of the year, that's what he was saying. And I was like, No, I need James Harden to be a playmaker and a distributor,
Starting point is 00:08:25 and I need Joe Lombie to be my go-to guy. All right, let's go to the other guard who could be on the move. Damia Lillard. Now, Cowherd is a big Northwest guy, so he's not here. We can bag on the city of Portland and the organization. No, I'm not doing that. I'm totally screwing your subject.
Starting point is 00:08:39 I am not bagging on the city of Portland. That's... So Rudy Gober got a massive hall last year. Yes. Massive. Yes. In Utah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Damien Liller's not getting anything. You're not hearing anything about like three number one picks. I know he's older, but they waited too damn long. Did they not screw this up? Well, look, what Minnesota is willing to give up, it's a little bit like the Sean Watson deal. Okay. Just because one team decides to do something crazy
Starting point is 00:09:07 doesn't mean that now that's the bar that is set for everybody else. And the difference is that Gobert wasn't asking to leave. He wasn't asking to be traded. Fair. Right? That's what Damien is doing at age 33. And so they're going to have to make the best of this situation. They're going to have to find the best deal that they can make with Miami.
Starting point is 00:09:32 And I don't like the way that this is being portrayed. Like the Portland Trailblazers are out there beating the bushes to find the right trade. Pat Riley and the Miami Heat want Damian Lillard. They're the ones that are out there trying to construct a deal that is going to going to get Damian Lillard there and find a place for Tyler Harrow. Now, the most interesting aspect of this for me is the Ben Simmons element. Because the Brooklyn Nets have said, the indications are the Brooklyn Nets would take Tyler Hero. And that's what they need.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Portland Trailblazers are not interested in Hero. So would you, and I know this is crazy, but I also know the NBA, and everybody always thinks, I mean, we've seen it with James Harden. Wait a minute. Like, they always think, oh boy. There's always a team that thinks we can rehab them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Oh my God. We can get the best out of them. You're not really. And so we'll see. I just want to see. Who's getting Ben Simmons? Miami? No, Portland.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Oh, please. No, with all those young guys? But here's the thing. Well, what's the problem with that? Well, they're loaded with Simons at guard, sharp at guard. Scoot Henderson. They all need the ball.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I'm playing Ben Simmons is a power forward. Oh, gosh. A playmaking. A player. You know, actually, now that I think about this, because I really had not thought it all the way through, the one thing that the Portland Trailblazers have been trying to get forever is a playmaking power forward. What did Damien Lillard want? He wanted Draymond Green.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Why did they sign Evan Turner to that big contract? Jeremy Grant was kind of supposed to be that. Like, they've been looking for this forever. So if you could kind of convince Joe Cronin, the GM, that, hey, Ben Simmons could be the thing that the trailblazers have been looking for for a decade? Look, we're spitballing here, but that's the song I would be. I will say this. I would also, if I was Joe Cronin, I would not be playing this like,
Starting point is 00:11:38 we're going to do whatever is best for the organization. I would be saying, we want to do right by Damien Lillard. We want to get him to Miami. We want to get him to where he wants to go. But everybody has to understand, Damian Lillard is the face of our franchise. Damian Lillard has been the selling point for our team. So we can't just let him go, but we are more than happy to get him there. Because now the pressure is on Miami and whoever else and Damien and his agent to make it happen.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Because you're saying, we want to make it happen. We want this for Damien. So now, Pat Riley, go make it happen. do it satisfy us. So a Portland front court of NERC, Ben Simmons, Jeremy Grant, and then two young guys under 25 in the back. I've seen way worse.
Starting point is 00:12:25 That's vomit. That's probably 14th in the West. Oh, stop it. Listen, I defended Ben Simmons for way too long. I'm done giving Ben Simmons any defense at all. Goodness gracious. It turns me a little bit to be able to be this gung-ho on what he could potentially be.
Starting point is 00:12:41 But what are you going to do? All right. I'm going to back into the Lakers here with this. True or false, the Nuggets got worse this offseason, losing Jeff Green, their seventh guy, Bruce Brown, their sixth guy. Did they get worse? You don't have to think this one over. Yeah, I do, because the value of winning a championship and the experience that the Christian Brown got.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And what I know about, they're very high on Peyton Watson. Like, that collective, if you talk about the off season, I'm counting the finals. I'm counting the experience that they got from winning a championship. And it's really difficult to put a price on that. When you understand what it takes to win it all, and you've been through all those battles, you have a confidence level that no one else has. And you could say, well, the Lakers and the Warriors,
Starting point is 00:13:37 I mean, look at the Warriors. But Warriors got worse. That was my next one. True or false, the Warriors got worse this off season. Oh, my goodness. Yeah. No, they did not get worse. Oh, dear.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Anyways, bottom mind, I was saying, wait, how does it's got to make it worse? Chris Paul is a better defender than Jordan Poole. Chris Paul is a more efficient player than Jordan Poole. If Chris Paul has to start 50 games or 40 games. He's not going to start. He's not going to start. He's come off the bench. If an injury happens, they've got two fossils in the back court.
Starting point is 00:14:02 My guy Curry and Clay Thompson, which is a rich injury. Goodness, two fossils. Clay Thompson did not train last summer. I assume he's going to train this summer and he's going to be in better shape. And Steph Curry, a fossil? I love Curry. Come on.
Starting point is 00:14:15 I know he had an amazing season. A fossil? You can't rely on him to start 60, 70 games anymore. Okay, you start 60 games. So now Chris Ball's got to start. Bottom line is, I believe, Nuggets got worse, Warriors got worse, Lakers got a lot better. I love these moves.
Starting point is 00:14:30 See, she should have just come out on Front Street and said, I don't want to start harsh. Let me hear why the Lakers are now the best team in the Western Conference. No, no, no, they're not better in the Suns. Suns are definitely better than the Lakers. I have the Nuggets a lot of the Lakers. I feel like I'm in Stranger Things. It's like upside down world.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Wow, that's a good Stranger Things reference. Thank you. What's going on with, no, the Denver Nuggets are the team to beat. Nope. Tell me who's figured out the Nikola Yokic puzzle or the Nikola Yokic Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon puzzle. Tell me who's got a better threesome that is more complimentary to each other outside of Golden State than those three. It ain't Phoenix. And the Lakers, Anthony Davis, LeBron James, Austin Reeves.
Starting point is 00:15:21 That's deadly. For who? For opponents? My gosh, Reeves is so good. All right, so hold on. LeBron James is 39 years old. He's your go-to guy. Do you have the Lakers as fourth or fifth?
Starting point is 00:15:34 I'm a certain. I don't actually size that up. They can be among the first six. Yeah. They're going to be better because, again, they're going to. Actually, Rick, you will admit, a lot of people think you're a Lakers hater or a LeBron hater. Yeah, I've heard that. I've heard that once or twice.
Starting point is 00:15:51 So maybe you're being a little critical here. I was, but I'm always right. They made the conference finals. I mean, going back to the L-A-A-R-P, look, I will say I thought that they would lose to the Memphis Grizzlies. Oh, wow. Okay. I did. I spanked those guys.
Starting point is 00:16:08 And I knew that they were going to lose to Denver. I want to remember At Warriors Going in, I thought that the Warriors would beat them So did I? Yeah. But no, they're our good team. Rob Polenka has done as much as he possibly could.
Starting point is 00:16:26 But this is the ugly truth that nobody wants to accept. LeBron James is 39 years old. LeBron James had the opportunity to win two of those Denver games and could not. Now, if he's not your go-to guy, if he's not, And don't give me numbers, don't give me averages. LeBron James is good enough and has a high enough usage rate and has the ball in his hands enough. Still, even now, he's going to get numbers.
Starting point is 00:16:52 It's always, the box score is always going to look good. Can he win you games at this point? He had two games, the game in there for the taking, and he couldn't get it done. And that's no fault. I mean, you're asking a 39. year old guy to be your go-to. If he's not your go-to is. Anthony Davis, don't try to sell me on that.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Austin Reeves? Come on. Who is? Who's going to be that guy? You can continue to doubt LeBron. I will not doubt the kink. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays and noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but

Starting point is 00:18:31 of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space. For honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream,

And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:19:11 What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know.
Starting point is 00:19:37 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Listen, I know no shows here are allowed to talk about the Houston Rockets because nobody cares. But I do want to remind people, they got IMA Udoca as their. new coach. What he did in Boston was somewhat transformative with the young guys in getting them to the finals. Udoca was pretty damn good. I'm just curious, is there a world where they're way better than people think? If, you know, for anybody going to Vegas this summer, do any gambling, I'm looking hard at the Houston Rockets. As what? How high do you have them flying? I mean, I just think their win total is probably going to be a little low, given how highly I think of Udoca.
Starting point is 00:20:34 We know coaching matters a ton in the NBA, right? Yeah. But I don't understand the question. Where are you, where, what, what, would be like a 45 win team. Oh, no, I can't go that high. Can't go that high. Um, I like, I like Van Fleet. Um, I like that we've already seen him working out with Jalen Green. Oh yeah. That's the exact impact that you want him to have.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Yeah. Uh, Dylan Brooks has been dragged. He doesn't, he didn't, look, he brought so much of it on himself. I'm, I can't do a JJ, J.J. Redick and say, it didn't, Reddick basically say he was going to be playing in China and now he got like an 80 million dollar contract? No, no, no. I don't think Redick ever said that. Redick was the opposite.
Starting point is 00:21:12 He was upset that people were bagging on Dylan. Yeah, it was a little harsh. It was over the top without question, but Dylan brought so much of it on himself. I'm not about to defend him. That said, he is a good player. I don't know if he's 20 million good, but he's a good player. And I like that back court, and I'm a big fan of Sangun. But they went after Brooke Lopez.
Starting point is 00:21:35 They needed some size. And now you, this is the greater. issue and I have a lot of respect for Udoka as well. But you have three young guys in Kevin Porter Jr., Jabari Smith, and Jalen Green. Because Dylan Brooks and Van Vleader there and San Gun is starting at center, one of those three young guys is not going to start after starting last year. And how that plays and which one of them has to come off the bench, that one's not going to be happy. And so you already have a locker room issue that you're going to have to deal with. All right. I The last question, Kyrie Irving and the Mavs.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Who won that deal? I wanted to give Mark Cuban credit, but Kyrie's trying to do a victory lap on social media. I don't know if you saw it. Shout out to my agent who's like his mom or whatever it is. I got $126 million. It felt like a weird flex. Yeah, well, I mean, people didn't think he was going to get paid.
Starting point is 00:22:28 I mean, they, they, I was told like there was a sort of a wink, wink nod. This is the deal we'll be able to offer you when they made the trade. Okay. I don't see him going to Dallas unless he knew that they were going to re-up him. He wanted the full, the full max. And he didn't get that. What I was surprised, so I think it's two years and a player option. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:52 If I was Dallas, I would have wanted team option. No, he's going to one out and he'll leave. He's not going to like it. I feel so bad for Luca, but they're going to yell at me for talking about the maths. All right. Rick Buecker, NBA analyst here. They don't yell at you, Jane Mack. They love you.
Starting point is 00:23:12 At Fox Sports. Thanks, Rick. I'm sure we'll see you soon. All right. Tired of taking ice cold showers. Starting point is 00:23:29 Madesimple.com. Alex with the news? No. No. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, let's stick in the NBA, because Chet Holmgren made his return for the Thunder this week in Summer League, and he missed all of his highly anticipated first season with a right foot injury.
Starting point is 00:23:50 He looked a little rusty to start. He was scoreless in the first quarter of Monday's win, but he eventually found his rhythm and finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. So, J. Mack, technically, this is now going to be Chet's rookie season, because he missed all of last year. Now, I think this could be an extremely sneaky return. I don't want to say people have forgot about Chet, but he's not the headline story coming into this season,
Starting point is 00:24:20 which could help because the pressure is off. Right? I totally agree. What are your expectations? I wrote about this for Fox Sports. I said, who's your rookie the year next year? I said, I would bet Chet Holmgren. Really?
Starting point is 00:24:31 This was like a week ago, and he looks amazing. First of all he gained like 12 pounds. Chet, all he did in the last year was lift weights. Look at Holmgren. He's not like a spindly guy anymore. Look at that. And the blocks he had? Listen, man.
Starting point is 00:24:45 I was going to ask work about OKC, but I asked about Houston and said. I just, I'm telling you, OKC is a buy team for next year. Remember how the Kings came out of nowhere? Yeah. Watch OKC next. They're really good. Because of Chet. Chet.
Starting point is 00:24:59 I mean, he was all of the hype last season. He's like one bignamma here too. Yes. Yeah. And now the pressure's off. The focus isn't on you. And so you could just go out and perform without the pressure. Love it. I know. I think it's a big one. Keep an eye on it. All right, let's move on. The Knicks were believed to be interested in trading for Paul George and had spoken to the Clippers about a potential deal. However, the trade is now off the table now due to the high asking price. The deal reportedly would have been too expensive for New York and George also wanted a contract extension. No, just remember, Paul George has now. never played, has not played a full season for the Clippers. Since 2019, this is also including the playoffs, he's missed 125 games. He's played 222 games.
Starting point is 00:25:47 What do you think the Clippers should do? Hey, Nix, I haven't played lately. Can I get a full ride here? Can I get the four-year max or whatever? That's insane. And they would have had to give up a lot to get them. I like Paul George a lot. These injury prone guys, I'm not doing it out.
Starting point is 00:26:00 The best ability is availability. And if you're not available and you're, injury prone, can't depend on you. I need someone that I can depend on. It's going to show up to work. It's interesting, though, that he's getting dangled in trade talks, but Kauai is not getting dangled than any. And Kauai feels like plays less than Paul George.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Yeah. Something's going on with the Klippers. It's unclear, but they have not done really anything of note that's been good this off season. I don't know. You excited to go to Klippers game? If a friend says to you, Alex, I got opening night tickets to the Clippers, do you want to come?
Starting point is 00:26:30 Are you instantly like... You know I'm a Laker fan, right? I know. But it's still like... I've been to Clippers games when they play the Lakers. There you go. Wow. That's it.
Starting point is 00:26:39 That is hard. What if I said, Wimbanyama opening night, Kauai versus Wemianama, are you going? Yeah, I'd go. Or would you say, how do we know if Kauai Lenners couldn't even play? Are there Spurs already starting load management with Wembe on opening night? No, they wouldn't do that. No, I would go for the other teams that they're playing. Yeah, that's brutal.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Okay, let's move on. Bears' GM, Ryan Pohl spent 13 years in Kansas City before taking the Chicago job in 20. He was part of the Chief's organization as they became the Super Bowl winning powerhouse that they are today. Now, he's trying to replicate that success with a new team, and he said he's using the blueprint he witnessed in Kansas City of focusing on building through the draft. Now, the positive side here is that any person that could do something like this is Ryan Poles who spent 13 years in Kansas City. Right. The downside is they don't have Patrick Mahomes or Andy Reid. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:33 That's the core. That is the core. What's the secret sauce in Kansas City, Alex? Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Well, employ that in Chicago. Let's see how that works. So, yeah. A little silly.
Starting point is 00:27:44 I get it. Those are the main pieces. Let's find a superstar quarterback. Okay, those don't grow on trees. No. You know, like. So, I mean, again. I've got to read this story.
Starting point is 00:27:53 I haven't opened on my tab. I haven't fully ready yet. I wish them the best of luck. I mean, listen, like I said it earlier. I like Chicago this year, but saying stuff like, hey, I saw what Kansas City did. I was there. For 13 years.
Starting point is 00:28:03 So I'm going to follow the blueprint. Which again, if anyone could follow the blueprint, it's someone who was there for 13 years in the building of that. By the way, what does it say that Eric Biennami was with him in Casey a lot? And Chicago could have had Beenemy. Chicago could have made a move on him. Yeah. Did not. What does that say?
Starting point is 00:28:23 Like, I was there for 13 years. I know the secret sauce! It ain't the offensive coordinator. Who's now in Washington? And we haven't done any talking about them. But there's a world where they're not bad this year? Yeah. Quarterback question, as usual.
Starting point is 00:28:34 Well, yeah. quarterback head coach. It's tough. It is tough. We saw it with what? Brady and Belichick. That was a secret sauce? Two decades, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:43 He left. Brady got one more. Not much for Belichick. Yeah. Alex with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lie News.

Starting point is 00:30:04 documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little kill?
Starting point is 00:31:35 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
Starting point is 00:32:02 so I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years
Starting point is 00:32:16 for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right. Staff had a really good idea that, you know, I would have a barbecue for Fourth of July. Very patriotic. I'm sure it has a little red, white, and blue.
Starting point is 00:32:34 No, they're not mosquitoes to the people who ask. They're people skiing. I would not wear this at a pool party, tank top, obviously. And I was able to invite quarterbacks for my first ever quarterback barbecue. It wasn't as cool as the party in the Hamptons, the white party, because I couldn't get Taylor Swift and Beyonce to come. But I got Super Bowl worthy quarterbacks. And here are the guys I invited in order.
Starting point is 00:32:57 You ready for this, Alex? All right. So first up, the first quarterback I invited had to be patronage. had to be Patrick Mahomes. Best quarterback in the league. You know, definitely a cool guy to have at the barbecue. It's got a winning personality, got the wife and kids. You know he's not going to be hitting on your wife.
Starting point is 00:33:14 He's going to be like talking about his incredible MVP in the Super Bowl and how many titles he's going to win. And he's just the boxy that he has on the field. Patrick Mahomes has the gravitas that you want him at your barbecue. All right, next up, January Joe Burrow. Joe Cool. Now, he was at the white party, left via hell. helicopter to come to our barbecue. His stats need no introduction. First season has a full-time
Starting point is 00:33:36 starter. Bengals go to the Super Bowl, AFC title game, a couple of those. Listen, man, Joe Burrow is ascending, and he might have a Super Bowl win in his near future. The next quarterback to take my call, I would have this guy working the grill because he seems like a hat backwards kind of guy shirt open. Trevor Lawrence, he's got the flowing locks, just totally chilling. Feels like just a cool guy you want at your barbecue. Can I say cool guy? Or Alex, is that a phrase? You can say cool. Yeah. Trevor Hors is cool. Like I want him at the barbecue. Just
Starting point is 00:34:07 a nice dude. He might throw the football with your kid and like... Definitely. He's a nice guy. Next guy reached out to kind of a wallflower, but cool at quarterback. Joe I'm sorry, Justin Herbert. He's got the new OC in Kellamore. You see him on the ground here sliding for reasons. I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:34:24 But everybody loves Justin Herbert. Now the next guy will be the best dress guy at the barbecue. Crazy talented quarterback, nearly won the Super Bowl all by him damn self. And that would be Jalen Hertz. Jalen Hertz, very dapper individual, 21 and 4 record over his last 25 starts. Again, the kind of guy who when he rolls up to the barbecue, he doesn't have to do a lap to see everybody.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Jalen Hertz is just rolling and people are coming up to him. Jalen, my guy, what up? Like people like Jalen Hertz. Next up, Lamar Jackson, not super social. He's going to be wearing the shades, obviously. And, you know, he's probably not going to be doing any running around because he does enough of that on the football field. But I love Lamar Jackson's Super Bowl chances this year, okay?
Starting point is 00:35:08 Best supporting cast he's ever had a receiver. The tight end is back. Offensive line will see new OC could be a fireworks-type year. Fireworks. You like that for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens? Next up, come on. What would a barbecue be without Aaron Rogers toking in the corner and talking about what he did?
Starting point is 00:35:27 on a reservation, ayahuasca-wise, last week. As Alex laughs, like, this is real. Aaron Rogers at the barbecue is going to be like. Toking in the corner? Yeah, he's legal in L.A., right? No? It is, yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:42 He may pull some mushrooms out of his pocket. I don't know. Aaron Rogers, very unpredictable guy. Don't laugh. Listen, this is Aaron Rogers. He's going to be the cool guy at the party. I don't know that that's going to be everybody's vibe, you know. I kind of got the low-key.
Starting point is 00:35:55 He's your guy now. On your team. You got to have his back. You have to support him. Jay, I got some gummies. Are you interested? I'm like, all right, Aaron. Whatever you say, boss.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Aaron Rogers gets the invite. Next up, Derek Carr, this was a late invite. Someone canceled. I said, Derek Carr, come on, dude. I know you don't have anything going on. Very religious dude. Doesn't party too hard. We've got some non-alcoholic beverages, Alex, for Derek Carr.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I don't know if he drinks alcohol. We want to make his wife happy, unlike the Raiders. Really, they made her cry. So we're going to, you know, roll out the red carpet for Derek Carr's wife. And the Saints could be Super Bowl-bound, as I said earlier on the show. Finally, last invite. I invited him for his wife, Russell Wilson. Come on down, Sierra.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Sierra, I always butcher her name. But, you know, they'll probably have a camera crew in tow, right? Russell Wilson and his beautiful wife. And they'll be probably the best-dressed duo at the party. Alex. Did I see Josh Allen on there? No, I didn't give an invite. You snud Josh Allen?
Starting point is 00:36:53 Yeah, I didn't like the comments about the media earlier. this week sell. Late scratch, Josh Allen. Anyone else not get the invite? A snub. Nobody else, though? Josh Allen. Well, Stafford. I would invite Stafford. Stafford's my guy. I like him. Yeah. I'm not optimistic about the Rams this year. I just don't feel good. Still be a cool guy to have with the barbecue. He would definitely be a cool guy. All right. I got to read this ad here. To gain visibility and control over your financials, inventory, HR, e-commerce, and more. Starting point is 00:37:30 Go to netsuite.com slash heard. That's net suite.com slash heard. Obviously, Alex's husband's band will be playing at the barbecue. Oh, you want pepper there? I don't know if we can afford them, but, you know, it's a low-budget barbecue. Steal them off tour. Yeah. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's My God.
