This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast.
Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.
Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule of,
of two. Listen to stuff to blow your mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every
weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local
station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeartRadio app by
searching Heard.
Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go. Hour number three.
Live in L.A., it's the herd.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
I was thinking about this.
Chicago Bears have the number one pick.
The Bears have the number one pick.
And they want to.
Ryan Pohl, the GM, is saying we're not greedy with the number one overall pick,
but the quarterback needy teams would have to go above and beyond to close a deal now.
So I think this is a mistake.
So just play along.
I think a lot of times fans don't realize that,
GMs don't want to look bad among their peers.
And they're not always doing what's best for the team.
They're doing what's best for their career.
And I'll give you an example.
So if you're Chicago, you need a defensive end.
And there are three defensive ends in the top seven or eight picks.
None.
There's no Chase Young.
Will Anderson's probably the best, but by inches not feet.
If you're Chicago and that's what you want,
and it's one of their primary needs, right?
They got a first, a second, a third, a fourth, and two-fifths.
Chicago needs starters.
They need draft picks.
You call Houston and you say, move up, and Houston says no.
And you tell Houston, okay, we're going to give you one chance to move up.
But we're going to go down the list.
We don't need a quarterback.
Indy does, Seattle, May, Carolina, Atlanta.
We will give you the first opportunity to move to number one.
give us your offer.
And Houston says, I'm not going to, we don't need it.
Okay.
Now I'm going to Indy.
And if you're Chicago and you stay within the first eight to nine picks where the top
three edge rushers are all going, what do you care?
I get additional picks.
That's best for the franchise.
That's best for the franchise.
So I'm Chicago.
I call Houston.
What will you get?
And Houston says, not interested.
Okay.
I call the Colts.
What will you give me?
Colts go, we like Price Young.
All right.
And then I call Texans and say, well, they're going to give me a second.
But the point being, you can absolutely move that number one pick for Chicago, unequivocally, inarguably.
But a lot of GMs won't do it unless they feel they get a great deal because it makes them look bad.
If I was five minutes before the draft, I would go to the Colts and say, I gave you.
Houston a shot, you can have the number one pick and all I wants a fourth round pick.
That would be best for the franchise.
But most GMs won't do that because they're afraid of the perception of how it will look.
You got hosed.
But they're not taking a quarterback.
They're taking a defensive player.
And if they want an edge rusher and there's three in the top eight picks, what do you
care?
If you can get a third or a fourth round pick, it's another starter for Chicago.
I think you'd be surprised.
they always say this about sports.
You'd be surprised how few owners,
Joe Lacob of the Warriors is a great example,
winning's number one.
It's not number one for half the owners.
It's a net worth, it's a toy,
they're not willing to pay a luxury tax.
Joe Lacob of the Warriors,
it's all about titles.
That is all he cares about.
And you can see it.
They've pulled away from the league.
A lot of these NFL owners, it's not about winning.
And a lot of these GMs are protecting their arse.
The Bears could absolutely get
a pick. It may not be a second. It may not be multiple picks. They can get a pick. And if you want a
defensive end, just go get a pick. Move down to eight. If your scouting departments like,
we don't see a big gap between the Clemson kid, the Alabama, and a lot of people don't.
We don't have a Chase Young. There's no Trevor Lawrence. There's no Andrew Luck. There is no
absolute lock number one. There's no Jamar Chase as a wide receiver. There's no,
by the way, there's no Sauce Gardner. I said last year before the draft,
Gartner was the best player I saw in college.
He was also the best rookie in the NFL.
I said Trevor Lawrence would have been my number one pick as a freshman at Clemson.
I was right on Trevor Lawrence.
I was right on South Gart and there's no Jammar.
So you don't have a dominant corner, a dominant receiver, a dominant quarterback.
What you need is an edge rusher, among other things.
Move down.
But a lot of these GMs, they don't want to look like a fool to other GMs.
I would go to Houston and I'd say, I'll give you five days.
I'm moving this pick.
You get the first opportunity.
And if they say not interested, I'm calling the Colts.
And I would tell Chris Ballard, I'll give you the second opportunity because I'm moving
this pick.
And you know Houston's taking a quarterback.
So if Carolina goes one, Houston two, you're getting the third quarterback.
I bet Chris Ballard would listen.
And Ballard says, well, what did Houston offer?
A six.
I'll say, all right, I'll give you a five.
Give me a four.
No, okay, I'm calling Carolina.
Just keep going down the list.
You want to stay somewhere in the top eight or nine picks to get your defensive guy.
But this is not a draft of a lot.
There is no dominant quarterback, cornerback.
Even Will Anderson is an edge rusher.
He's a little undersized.
Nice player.
He'll start day one in Chicago.
Not winning games.
Kaleo Mac couldn't win big games for you.
Not a bosa.
the idea of winning a trade, Colin, has really hit the NBA hard.
You want to win social media where the first reaction is to the trade.
Instantly, oh, did they get enough picks?
Did they get enough pick swaps in the NBA?
And now it's like, geez, if you're polls and you don't get a good deal,
you now kept Justin Fields.
We don't know how he's going to turn out.
And maybe you've got a bad deal.
The clock is ticking for you instantly in Chicago.
And, you know, the fans kind of have their say now more than I think they did 20, 30 years ago in sports.
We know this to be true.
Corporations are terrified about being canceled on the internet.
And, you know, one of the things I like working at Fox about Fox Sports,
I don't work at Fox News necessarily.
Fox Sports is they don't care about it.
I used to work at another company.
They cared more about it.
And my takeaway is if you, Chicago needs picks.
They need pay.
They got eight guys out, I mean, outside of, I think they have a really good tight end.
I mean, they have a corner they really like,
because safety they really like, they got eight starters they could go get.
Well, then go get picks and just get on the phone with Houston, then Indy, then Atlanta, then Carolina, then Carolina, and just make a deal.
If you can get over your peers criticizing you, just make sure your owner sit down with the McCaskies and say, this is the game plan.
We need eight starters.
Right now we don't have enough picks.
Put pressure on the other teams.
Because by the way, if you call Houston, they say no, and you call Indian, they say no.
I'd say, okay, Chris Ballard, I'm calling Carolina Atlanta.
And now they only have to give me a five.
And I guarantee you, Carolina's like, we're out.
Carolina is a massive quarterback.
Atlanta doesn't have the guy.
Andy didn't have the guy.
Houston doesn't have the guy.
You got to play the game.
You got to manage.
But a lot of GMs, they see other GMs.
You go to the GM conference.
They get ripped.
People, Jerry Jones never cared about that.
Say what you want about Jerry Jones.
He bought that franchise for nothing.
And he was unpopular for a long time.
time. He got rid of Tom Landry. He did things
differently. He pushed back on the Pepsi Coke
relationship with the NFL. He didn't
care. Jerry Jones,
billionaire who owns the Cowboys, he doesn't care
what anybody thinks. He wasn't a billionaire then. Some of these
GMs, though, I don't know. Colin,
you look at a guy like Frank Reich in Carolina.
He's a quarterback
whisper allegedly, right?
Why does he need to trade up? Give me somebody
in the second, third, fourth round. I'll be fine.
If you're Frank Reich, I don't
think you need to move up in Carolina. Listen, they're
bad. They don't have the Niners
roster or Phillies roster. That sounds good if I've got the Niners or
Phillies roster. Or Baltimore's roster.
Six, seven, eight games? I thought they were a decent team last year. No, I'm not
talking decent. That makes sense. If you have the Niners roster,
Philly's roster. Like Baltimore, Buffalo's got a pretty good. There are
rosters where you could say, we don't need a star quarterback. We don't want to get
trapped with a blank quarterback of Kirk Cousins so we can go get a Brock Purdy. That is not
situation with Carolina. They need a
quarterback to elevate them because right now
they're still in like a semi-rebuild. They don't
have a good enough back. They got one good
edge rusher, one good receiver.
They have a left tackle they found, but they've got to rebuild
some of the, they've got their tackles, I think are pretty
good. I just, I'll remind you, Jalen Hertz,
second round pick. Dak Prescott,
mid-round pick. These guys
got to the playoffs, put their teams in the
mix. Now I know Dak signed the big contract, but
I'm not sold on it. You said star.
You think any of these top four quarterbacks are stars?
It's a tough sell for me.
Do you think my rant there on Chicago?
You just go down the line and say,
here's your one shot.
What are you going to give me?
Because I'm calling Indy the minute you say no.
It's still way too early to get all.
I'm not saying I'd do it this week.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But you can get a pick.
Do you have the support of your owner
and are you willing to not get a great deal for the pick?
Well, it's funny.
Will Anderson two years ago was perceived as,
hey, this could be a Chase Young type player.
This could be one of the great ones.
He's very good.
And he wasn't great last year.
Why was he not great last year?
Was he thinking about the NFL, knowing that he's an early round picket, and I'm not going to get hurt?
The most, Jalen Carter, to me, is a can't miss.
Now he's got some personal stuff.
You know, a lot of pro athletes have their stuff.
I'm a little less high on him due to that stuff than you.
No, no, I get it.
But Will Anderson, I feel, can be an elite, like, can he have an Aiden Hutchinson-type impact next year?
Certainly.
Why not?
Aidan Hutchinson was awesome for Detroit.
I'm not saying, Will, I think Will, I watched Will, Will Anderson.
and play 15 times.
I watched Alabama every Saturday.
He's good.
Almost every Saturday.
So, no, he's very, very good.
But I'm saying he doesn't, I think Chase Young came out and it was like, get him.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, there are, I don't think.
He's not a Bosa or a Chase Young.
Right.
All right.
We got a bunch of stuff going on here.
You also teased a big story.
NBA, there's some stuff happening, shall we say?
I don't want to give it all away, but it's not great stuff for a certain team in the West.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Story out.
Jets are flying to Green Bay to meet with Aaron Rogers.
That story is now out.
Jets flying to Green Bay.
Meet with Aaron Rogers.
There you go.
So the Packers have to give you permission to do that.
Otherwise, it's tampering.
So Green Bay is making a push.
They made a big push on Derek Carr, and Derek Carr chose the Saints.
They're making a big push on Aaron Rogers, so we'll see what transpires.
Bucky Brooks, former NFL defensive back, former NFL scout, Seahawks Panthers.
So the Combine's interesting.
I was much more into it years ago.
I think here's what concerns me is you're not getting an authentic experience,
is that kids now prep for it.
A kid who may not have a great work ethic
knows if he works out for 8 to 10 weeks
gets in the best shape of his life.
He can make a lot of money.
So I do think Belichick, Sean McVeigh, Matt Lefleur.
Increasingly, I'm seeing coaches saying,
hey, I'm going to watch a lot of game tape.
I'm going to trust my scouts.
I feel like there's a little bit of a movement.
People are concerned that it's become a cottage industry
to coach players up for the Combine.
Is that fair?
Yeah, some of that is fair, yeah, because the players have been exposed to these drills.
Because you got to remember, this generation of players, they grew up watching the combine on TV.
It's not the mystery that it once was.
Hey, I'm going to go to Indianapolis.
I don't know what I'm going to be asked to do.
How am I going to do it, et cetera.
Well, now they know all the drills.
They know what to do.
They know how to prepare for them.
And so if you come in great shape, you've repped the drills, you absolutely can ace them.
They're still value to the combine in terms of watching.
guys work out, for instance, watching the quarterback's throw back to back to back, watching
the wide receivers run routes after one another. It helps you kind of like set your order because
you're seeing them do similar things instead of recalling what someone did at one pro day versus
another pro day. So there's value to it. But I think in the end, Colin, what you're learning
from the coaches, amen, the tape trumps everything. And even though you have a remarkable workout,
we're going to make these decisions based off how you played in college,
more so than how you work out in front of all these people in your shorts and your t-shirt.
You know, I said this.
When I saw C.J. Stroud for Ohio State against Georgia run,
it was Justin Herbert against Wisconsin and the Rose Bowl,
is that their coach protected them,
and I saw them as overwhelmingly pocket quarterbacks who threw accurately.
Little mechanical, but clearly size, arm, accuracy, NFL.
quarterback. And then Herbert is allowed to run against Wisconsin, and it's, oh, I get that too. And I saw
CJ Stroud against Georgia. And I'm like, I didn't know that. And I kind of feel like we're sleeping
on C.J. Strout. He's like Herbert, quiet, says the right stuff, doesn't have a huge arm, but just like
productive, accurate. Now, Herbert does have a very good arm. Are we sleeping on C.J. Stroud?
Yes.
100%. He is the most natural passer in the draft. He's the number one quarterback that I have based on what you've always graded quarterbacks on.
Prototypical size, dimension, arm talent, the way that he plays the game. This guy is what you look for. He's a franchise quarterback that has played this league for the last 50 years.
Much like your comparison to Justin Herbert, I believe Ohio State protected C.J. Straub in the same way.
When Justin Herbert was coming out, I asked Mario Cristobal, why didn't you run him? He said, we didn't.
have a backup quarterback. I didn't want to put him out there. We lose him. And now our chances of
playing at a high level dissipates. Same thing for Ohio State. You protect him throughout the regular
season. You let him do most of his work from the pocket. But when it came down to the playoffs,
they unleashed him. And you saw a guy who really displayed everything that you look for in today's
game at that position. This dude here is QB1. He is the one that we're going to talk about down the
line being the superstar of this group.
Yeah, no, it's the Georgia game was an eye-opener, as was the Wisconsin game for Herbert.
So I don't do mock drafts because I'm wrong enough.
I don't want to be more wrong.
But your mock draft, actually, I think there's an argument.
It makes perfect sense.
So you go, you have Chicago taking Jalen Carter, who I think is a more dominant player
at his position than Will Anderson.
I do.
That's the quarterback rankings for Bucky.
Let's go to his mock draft.
You have Houston taking Bryce Young.
I think he's very good, especially in a warm weather or a dome situation.
You have Arizona going with an edge rusher they need.
Indy gets C.J. Stroud.
I could see that happening.
And Seattle getting an edge rusher.
Let me ask you this about Seattle, though.
You were a scout for the Seahawks and you know Pete Carroll.
He loves unique athlete.
D.K. Metcalfe.
Lanky, long, Richard Sherman.
I'll take him.
extraordinarily huge safety cam chancelor all take him uh percy harvin couldn't stay on the field migraines
all take him pete's history as a teacher as a molder bucky tells me richards in the quarterback at
florida i mean he's like he's got a lot of cam there he's raw but could you see pete who you know
just saying i'm taking the best athlete and all show him how to play football
Pete Carroll has a luxury being able to make that pick because he has a veteran quarterback in
place in Gino Smith.
Gino Smith buys Pete Carroll time to develop Anthony Richardson.
Now, I understand the comparison to Cam Newton.
Cam Newton was a more dominant player in college in Anthony Richardson.
That said, someone who is 240 pounds that can run 4'4, that can jump out in the building
and do all those remarkable things, man, that's what you want at the position.
position. That said, it has to be a situation because he only has 13 starts. You have to give
them time. Remember, the last guys that we've seen picked at the top of the board that had
few starts, they haven't gone well. Mitchell Jubisky, Trey Lance. And so if you pick Carol,
this is part of a long developmental plan. Hey guys, do not ask me about Anthony Richardson for the
next two years. He is going into a developmental plan. We're going to work him out. And then in two years,
2025, that might be the time where we begin to see him.
Because Gino Smith would be at the end of that second year of this new extension,
now might be the time to hand the ball to Anthony Richardson if you see out of Seahawks.
It has to be a team with two first round picks.
It also needs to be a team that has a veteran in place that can run the team for the next year or two while this guy gets ready.
Okay, you tell me, if the Jets, what would you as a Green Bay Packer executive?
Let me ask you this. Jets, you want Aaron Rogers.
What would you give Green Bay?
He's going to be 39.
He's been semi-committed.
There's a story today by Mike Silver that the Packers felt Aaron once he got the bag,
checked out.
What would you give for Aaron Rogers knowing he talks retirement two or three times a year?
You can't give him a first-round pick.
You cannot give up a first-round pick because you just don't know how long he's going to play.
I mean, Aaron Rogers, look, he's been year to year the last few years.
And I know people like to look back at those shiny MVP awards when he went back to back.
But last year, he was a different player.
He wasn't a great Aaron Rogers.
And so if you're the Jets, what you're hoping is, look, he can turn back the clock for once,
help us get over the top, maybe be someone who can model how you want to play for Zach Wilson.
But you can't think that this is going to be longer than the two-year run.
So how many assets am I willing to give for that?
I'm not really to necessarily mortgage the farm for Aaron Rogers at 39 years old knowing he may give me one or two years.
That's not enough for me to give up a first round.
Oh, look at Jason McIntyre.
He just loves what you're saying.
Thank you, Bucky.
Good stuff.
Okay, I'm going to throw you my crazy theory.
A lot of owners in pro football and pro basketball and pro baseball, majorly baseball.
They're not in it to win championships.
It's a toy.
It's a business.
Similarly, a lot of GMs don't do what's always best for the franchise.
They protect their butt.
Chicago, you know this, could get additional picks for the number one pick.
They may not get a one.
They may not get a two.
But if I'm Chicago, Ryan Poles, and I'm like, listen, there's three defensive ends I like.
And they're all, it's inches not feet.
The Clemson guy, the Bama guy, they're going to both be nice NFL play.
and you just start calling teams, Houston, Indie, Carolina, what will you give me?
And let's say the best thing you get is a fourth round pick.
Well, the bears have nine spot.
They need starters.
They need capital.
You know the bears can get something for it.
But you've been in those rooms.
Are GMs afraid to look bad to other GMs?
Because, you know, if your owner supports it and you only get a fourth round pick,
it's still a potential starter for the Bears, is it not?
It is, but you've got to be careful.
Number one overall pick, you want to get someone that is a gold jacket worthy player.
And if you're going to trade out of that, you want to get enough to make sure that you bring currency to really upgrade the team.
A fourth round pick is not going to be enough for me to move out the number one spot.
It's just not going to be enough because on paper it looks bad.
And the player that you're getting by draft grades, you're talking about a developmental player.
We talk about starters.
This league primarily is a first, second round league.
I know you're seeing guys that make plays from outside of that,
but it's really about hitting on your first two picks,
making sure that you get starters and guys that can form the core of your team.
And so if you're Ryan Poles, you want to make sure that you bring it back.
But in actuality, the reason that people want to move up to number one
is typically to get a transcendent quarterback.
And I think what you're hearing and what,
the lack of movement so far, I don't know if anyone views any of these guys as transcendent
generational talents. That's why it hasn't necessarily been the buzz. And that's also why Ryan Poe's
been trying to drum up interest to get people up there. If this was Justin Herbert at the top of
the board, then people are like, hey, whatever you want, I'm willing to give up. It's not that kind
of quarterback class, which is why it hasn't drawn that kind of interest. It is interesting. But if
you think there are three defensive ends in the first 12 picks that you like, that's
That's where I'd be willing to move to eight for a third round pick and just say, we don't see a huge gap between Clemson guy and Bamma guy.
There is no Chase Young.
So, no, there is no Chase Young in there.
And so Ryan Post has kind of let it out when he said, hey, I think there may be seven guys worthy of being taken number one.
Right.
What he's saying is I don't necessarily see a great player, but I see a bunch of really good players that we'll be happy to have.
And so if someone wants to come up here and swap out, we'll move down.
And maybe we won't move down lower than eight.
He's kind of letting people know how far he's willing to drop.
And so those teams, he's saying, hey, if you want one of these quarterbacks,
you need to come up here, and I'm willing to go back to, what, the Raiders are seven.
I'm willing to go back to maybe the Falcons at 8.
So it's available.
I'm letting you know you can come and get it.
Now show me your best all right.
All right, that explains it.
All right.
Bucky Brooks, great stuff.
Fox Sports Radio, my friend, you know I love the combine work you do and the insight you provide.
I appreciate it.
Thanks.
Hey, thanks for having me, little Colin.
You bet.
JMAQ with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
All right.
I'm tempted to turn this into just an Aaron Rogers.
Well, it was a reaction because that's a big story right now, but we got some good stuff here, Colin.
Okay.
The NFL has officially reinstated wide receiver, Calvin Ridley.
Remember, he had that gambling issue that the league was very unhappy with,
and then the Falcons traded him while he was suspended to the Jags for a fifth round pick
and a conditional fourth rounder.
He hasn't played in an NFL game since October of 2021, but, listen, he's going to be a good
addition to the Jaguars.
I had a buddy telling me, is there a case that the Jags in that weak division,
Derek Henry's stuff is circulating, Colts have nobody, Texans or a dumpster fire?
Could the Jags go like 12 and 4 and get the number one scene in the AFC?
Is that crazy with this Ridley edition?
They've got good receivers.
Oh, no, no, I think, I absolutely think the Jags can be the number one team in the
AFC.
Weak division, star quarterback.
I think people are forgetting how good Calvin Ridley was.
He's a very talented.
He's explosive.
And the West is loaded.
The West will beat each other up.
The East, if Rogers goes to the gym, they're going to beat each other up.
No, I agree.
Bengals division, we'll see what happens with Lamar Jackson.
Like, Browns are going to be better.
This division is basically the Jags and three pretty badgiessies.
You know what we should do?
When are the over-underers available?
I think after the draft.
Okay.
Or maybe after the schedule.
The schedule has to come out.
Okay.
So schedule comes out in April.
We should do an over-under segment.
Because I think...
Segment.
Do an entire damn three-hour show on.
I mean, goes through every team.
Goodness.
You know the people.
You got to give them what they want, Calh.
Yeah.
All right.
Next up, we got a...
Oh, geez.
Here's a story.
John Moran.
Okay.
Listen, you got to be careful with this story
because we don't exactly know all the details.
the police are still looking into it.
Here's what we know.
He's serving the second game of his team suspension.
And I'm using air quotes for suspension because they're not calling it that, you know,
because they got to coddle John Morant.
But he's going to be away from the team.
The reason is he went on Instagram live Friday night, early Saturday morning from what people think
is a Colorado nightclub or strip club and showed a firearm in the video.
Okay.
Jaws had a little bad stretch here.
The Washington Post had an explosive expose with police reports pulled.
There's a lot of stuff swirling.
And Morant will miss at least two games.
Now, they have a big one Thursday, I believe, against the Warriors.
That's a TV game.
We don't know his status for that.
He's just got to grow up.
I feel bad he's a 20-year-old kid making mistakes.
But, you know, sometimes when you're young and you end up being the ascending star in your social group,
you've got to cut people from your social group.
It happens all the time in a...
There's a lot on this bone from his father who, you know,
was a good young basketball player and is now like his friend hanging out with him,
courtside, getting into it with fans and really getting mouthy.
And it seems like there's nobody leading or advising him here.
I see there's even Grizzlies fans right now saying, hey,
can Memphis sign Carmelo Anthony to kind of tutor Jomarent?
Because Carmelo Anthony, remember, he went through it,
David Stern lectured him. He got in some trouble. He was hanging with some of the wrong people. He's from a tough area in Baltimore. And John Morant, he's just got to get his act together because there is some, the league is looking into, what's this dude doing with a gun on the road?
Well, first of all, I didn't see Memphis. I saw him as a deep, talented team that plays real defense, but I didn't see them as a championship team. This just takes them out of the championship window. This is way too much noise.
They're the number two seed currently, but falling without John Moran.
Stephen Adams' injury is hurt.
Is this creating resentment in the building where veteran guys are like, dude, you ruined the season?
Well, I'm looking at some of these stories and they're saying, like, the teammates aren't rolling with Job when he's going out and hanging out.
It's like him and his boys.
Trouble.
It just.
Bad news.
And listen, this is a guy who is ascending Colin to the point, like he's an all-N-B-A player.
You look at like the top 10, 15 players' popularity in the league?
He's up there already.
Listen, Zion John Morant draft.
Jaws in trouble.
Zion never plays.
I mean, the first two years, we thought it was like
Wilk Chamberlain and, you know,
the next great superstar guard.
Where are they today? This league is hard.
You're drafting kids.
NFL, I got a lot of film.
I get 24-year-old kids. They've been
in a college environment. The two best
players going into the NBA this draft
aren't even playing college basketball.
It's hard, man. The scouting
is, you don't know what you're getting
as a human being. The weird thing with Jaws
when he came out of Murray State, there was none of this
smoke about, oh, off the court. And there was none of it the first couple years. And now he's
like a big time star. He's got national TV spots. He's doing a lot of commercials, making
big money. And now he's running into problems off the court. It has a potential to go real
sideways quickly. Well, I'm very interested from a basketball team perspective. So teammates aren't
going out with him. This stuff creates resentment. These guys work hard. The travel schedule is
daunting. I know they're well paid. You can create resentment real fast if you blow a season up.
He's talented.
He's, I don't know what leadership situation is, but he's like a smart player.
He's really good basketball talent.
And Memphis, they got to clean it up.
The other thing we have is the Sacramento Kings.
I finally worked him into the show.
Cowhert rolls his eyes.
Listen, the door is open with Memphis falling for the Sacramento Kings,
who have the longest non-playoff streak in the NBA.
I watched this game last night.
Brandon Ingram, I think it was Brandon.
He had a dunk last night.
End of the first half.
Oh, my God, it was unbelievable.
Listen, Sabonis, you see there in the highlights, Colin.
I know people don't want to believe it, but this team is fun, exciting.
Malik Munk is good.
Well, I know they're fun and exciting.
Half a game out of second in the West.
Now, here's the best part.
Yeah.
The teams in the mix, Colin?
Look at the teams in the mix right here for the play-in.
So if the Kings get two, they'll face seven.
That could be Mavericks, Clippers, potentially Lakers.
That would be a – you want to face the Kings.
They don't play any defense at all.
You know what I see here?
You know what I see there?
Warrior Sons.
That's what I see.
That's what my eyes are attracted to Kevin Durant, Chris Paul Devinbucker, DeAndre Aiton,
and the Warriors basketball depth and intelligence.
I see a bunch of posers.
I don't know if Kauai's going to play for the Clippers.
Mavericks don't play defense.
King's don't play defense.
Jaw issue with the Grizzlies.
I don't trust the nuggets.
T-wolves, fun, but 500.
This is what happens when I try to make a segment about the Sacramento Kings if it comes
an indictment.
Oh, well, we're not the sons of the Warriors.
Listen, DeMontas Sabonis, I'm telling you me, this guy can play.
Leave the NBA in double doubles.
Yeah, I know.
I know you care greatly.
I watched them last night.
Do you remember before the season started, I said on this show, Sacramento Kings are going
to the playoffs.
I know the social guy Wes is going to pull it.
I told you to bet the over.
Season went total already cast.
You did.
You were on the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Sacramento Kings.
And don't forget the New York Giants.
We're not going to talk about men misses because there are so few of them.
We'll just stick to the wins.
All right.
Well, that's okay.
That's what fans mostly forget when they're wrong.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
All sorts of good stuff.
John Moran's story is a lot to unpack.
That is a lot.
If you're the Warriors, this is why I like people.
Oh, you buy the Warriors.
A lot of veteran players.
They've been through this before.
The NBA playoffs.
I know Boston's scrapping.
Trust them.
Trust Boston in the playoffs.
Trust Golden State in the playoffs.
Phoenix. Katie's been around, Booker's been around, Aiton for a while, been around, Cameron Payne, Terrence, man, Chris Paul, even their young guys, Cameron Payne, he's been in these playoffs series.
Like Phoenix got some old heads and some experienced young kids. Phoenix, Golden State, Boston, Milwaukee.
I do think Cleveland is really interesting.
New York, Nick, sorry. I don't think they have the offense. I think the calves have it. They got size. They got
scoring. They got a star. Cleveland's really, I've seen them play. They've played the Celtics four
times. Go look up the games. They go toe to toe. As a young team, not intimidated at all by the
Celtics. True or false? The Cavs have won a playoff series without LeBron James this century.
True or false? This century false. Last century. Correct. It's been over 20 years since they've
won a playoff series without LeBron. Don't need to rub it in. Be sure to catch live editions of

It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

A win is a win.
I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.

this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.

What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look
Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here,
unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode,
with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
They say good things come to those who wait.
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz SUV family proves otherwise.
Takes no time to set up a test drive.
Go to MBUSA.com.
All right, J-Mack, we're going to play a game called Say Cheese.
So the Packers, Fav, and Aaron Rogers have very similar careers, struggled as first year.
Starters in Green Bay, then became stars.
Regular season, superstars only one, Super Bowl talk retirement at the end.
And then one went to the Jets and the stories today.
The Jets are meeting with Aaron Rogers.
So you'll give me a quote.
I'll try to guess if Favre said it or Aaron Rogers said it.
This is probably the toughest game we've had.
And these quotes are unbelievable.
Let's start with, I've always been a Packer, always will be a Packer.
That's Farr.
Oh, not bad.
Well done, Coward.
All right, next one.
I'm focused on this season.
I'm never going to drag it out in the off season.
Aaron Rogers.
Nobody gave you a cheat sheet, right?
No.
I'm looking at it.
Here's my piece of paper.
I'm looking at it.
A piece of paper.
To me, the best leader is a guy that leads on the field by example.
They don't follow a guy who sits in the locker room and runs his mouth all the time.
Farm.
Damn it.
Three and up.
I've seen a lot of people jump on and off my bandwax.
Aaron Rogers.
No!
Finally a whiff.
Now, people were off FARV because he had some issues.
Yeah, but that was like when he was 22 or something.
Once he got going, everybody, John Madden, everybody loved Favre.
So is he doing the Michael Jordan thing where he creates a narrative in his head to like...
Who jump?
I mean, yeah, I don't know a lot of jumping off the far bandwagon guys.
It's a small group.
So that's, what, a three and one so far?
All right, next up.
I think I've always been a guy.
who wants to be involved not only in working together but be involved in the lives of these
guys. Oh, that feels like FAR.
So now that, we should throw in the face of Aaron Rogers.
Because we had Romeo Dobbs on TV.
When did he say this?
I don't have the year in front of me, unfortunately.
Yeah, that was a long time ago.
Yeah, that doesn't sound like...
He has Aaron Rogers has changed a little bit, hasn't he?
Apparently, if that's a quote...
He doesn't want to hang out with his receivers.
Well, Romeo Dobbs.
Colin, I don't know if it was on this show or we used video.
I don't hang out with the interns.
You don't want to hang out with them.
At the Super Bowl, you said one of the most fun nights was sitting around with the interns and the staff at the hotel.
Do you remember that?
Yeah, but I don't remember an intern.
I ought to kick them out of the party.
Did interns not get to the sky?
That was Alex.
That was all the veteran guys on the staff.
That wasn't interns.
No interns.
No interns.
Got to earn your way to cigars and beers with the staff.
Cigar?
You're a cigar guy?
occasionally.
All right, next up.
I'm athletic, but also super smart.
Trump? Hold on.
Farve.
Rogers said that?
Aaron, that's kind of one of the easier ones.
Aaron Rogers thinks he's the smartest guy.
Time out.
Find me when Aaron Rogers said I'm super smart.
He goes on podcasts about philosophy.
Come on, man.
He thinks he's like the smartest quarterback in the NFL.
Well, he may be. He's very smart.
You know, all that stuff, he pushed back
the vaccine, Bill Maher and him.
Some of it may be right.
I don't know. I'm maybe waffling on that whole
vaccine thing.
As you get older, you find
things that really matter, don't really
matter at all.
That's not Gandhi, by the way.
As you get older, you find things that really matter
don't really matter at all.
Now, that
feels, there's been so many
Rogers in a row.
That feels like Aaron, but just because of the
game, I'll guess far.
You were a good SAT test takeover, weren't you?
But that sounds like something Aaron would say.
I can't believe he said, I'm super smart.
I want us to be a connected team on and off the field.
That's a general.
Anybody could say that.
I'll go, I'll go Rogers.
Lucky break there.
But he's saying that, but not doing it.
Not fair.
He's not a man of his word.
Yeah, Aaron Rogers.
I know you're listening.
You never know what the next day is going to bring.
That goes for football, goes for off the field, and I gave up a long time ago trying to predict the future.
That feels very Aaron Rogers.
Farve went Gandhi.
Yeah, I would have guessed Stephen Hawking on that one, but predicting the future, Brett Farv.
And finally, Colin, I think this is the last one.
I don't want to be part of a rebuild if I'm going to keep playing.
How about both?
I would say Aaron Rogers.
But I...
Yeah, you know.
Not a bad performance on this one.
I've got some spicy Aaron Rogers takes.
I'll save them for later in the week, shall we say.
When we know if the Jets lock up this guy.
So he doesn't even look right in a Jets uniform.
Remember when you had that skit where you showed him in the Jets?
It doesn't look right.
Well, Aaron, you know, even though he wore green and white for the last, you know, 12 years in Green Bay.
You said something earlier.
He doesn't feel like a New York guy.
Aaron is, he feels very coastal to me.
So the fact that he's worked in Milwaukee.
Wait, what makes you, what makes.
Aaron Rogersville coastal.
Rich, too cool for the room,
wants to remind you, you know, fashionable.
He's pretty good-looking, fashionable guy.
Whenever you see him walk into a stadium,
he's got the cool necklace.
He looks like, you know, he listens the alternative music.
He's doing stuff.
He's going hiding in a forest for four days.
They don't do that in Iowa.
That is a very Silicon Valley.
One of the last guy from Kansas that went,
I'm going to go in a darkness retreat.
It's called winter.
You know, I mean, it's just.
I don't know.
He dated a girl named Blue of Earth.
If you were at a bar in Cleveland, Ohio, and you said, what's your girlfriend?
Melissa, what's yours?
Blue of Earth.
They'd be like, check, please.
You're not from around here, are you?
I think you're a little behind on your Us Weekly.
Somebody tried to tell me on social media, and it's been written about that.
Aaron Rogers is kind of sort of dating the daughter of one of the Bucks owners.
Yeah, I heard that.
That's an old one.
Well, it's from January.
That's two months.
I know Rogers is in and out of relationship.
That's who he should be dating.
Like he,
not celebrity movie star types.
That's not who we.
She is. She's a model.
Well, she's an attractive woman from a wealthy family.
That's who Aaron would date.
Like that whole celebrity nonsense.
Aaron, that's not, you don't want to get involved in that stuff.
I would love to just pick his brain.
Just what's going on up there?
I mean, to be a quarterback in the NFL.
You've got to be pretty physically, emotionally.
Oh, oh.
What?
The fact that you said that.
I have this note.
So Aaron Rogers just had the fewest rushing hard yards he's had at a season as a starting quarterback.
94 rushing yards.
Fewest yards per carry, one touchdown.
There's a whiff of Russell Wilson, if he goes to New York and flops.
Remember Russell Wilson?
Oh, is he kind of washed?
I looked at the numbers for Rogers even passing, Colin.
He doesn't move anymore.
One of his worst seasons he's had in like a decade.
Completion percentage, yards per attempt, interceptions.
He hadn't had double-digit interception since 2010.
10. Now we get 12.
One of the first signs
that you're moving toward retirement
or you're protecting something,
Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers, you don't
want to run. Kyler Murray, I don't
want to get hit. No, I mean, Kyler
Murray wanted to get the bag, didn't want to get hit.
Aaron Rogers got the bag, getting older.
I don't want to get hit. I'm not going to
run. I mean, Russell
Wilson, for reasons I still don't understand,
I don't want to run. But
Mahomes is screaming
to get on the field with a high ankle sprain.
Josh Allen runs. Lamar runs. Herbert runs. Get Pop. Burrow runs.
So have you talked yourself into this going very badly for Aaron in New York?
They'll be better. Very badly's hard. I think it could be underwhelming.
Nobody had Russell.
Nine and eight.
The Broncos going for like, what, five, six wins. I know. Nobody had that. Yeah. And a final note.
Remember who the Broncos hired his head coach to try to get Rogers?
Hack it.
Yeah. So you know who the Jeff.
hired as their offensive coordinator, right?
Hack it.
Defensive coach.
I wonder if he's on that plane going to Lambo.
That's what I said before is the Jets will be better.
I'm not sure they're great.
I don't think they're as good as Buffalo next year.
I don't think if Tua, if you said Tua starts 15 games.
I would laugh.
15.
Well, I would say Miami's better than the Jets.
Can I ask, has anyone who's hosting the show ever walked off the set in anger?
There's a chance if Rogers Jets becomes official during the show.
I'm just going to, I'm going to be better.
away from the cameras.
All right. That's enough.
Good stuff. We'll see you tomorrow on a Wednesday.
Then we'll tell you the big news Friday. It's the herd.
