Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. Help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice. Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:04 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slicalife-Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:02:32 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard Podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to three eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox SportsRadio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio. app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Welcome in. This is The Herd, wherever you may be.
Starting point is 00:03:09 And however you may be making it as part of your day. Thanks so much. I'm Doug Gottlieb. And for the vacationing, Colin Cowherd. And for the next hour, I want to talk sports with you. From Poway to Escondido, from San Clemente to Otai Mesa. I don't actually know where Otai Mesa is. That's old school
Starting point is 00:03:36 SoCal Radio sports radio If you know My boy Jay Stu Who's been doing this even longer than me Of course Ryan's on the ones and twos Welcome in Happy holidays to you
Starting point is 00:03:49 It's okay I apologize to you Jason But now is the time You can say Merry Christmas It is not too early I would have been a little hesitant About Christmas lights Before today
Starting point is 00:04:02 But now it's okay to put the Christmas lights up You want to go Clark Griswold, you go Clark Griswold. I think Jay Stu has a holiday movie tie for us in Best for Last. That's at the end of the hour. And we got college football, all the picks you need for this weekend's sports that haven't yet taken place. Remember this is an NFL game today? Like, really?
Starting point is 00:04:23 Yeah, Black Friday. I think Jay Stu, this is the second year of Black Friday. Is this the third or second? No, see, it's the third, right? 2023, the dolphins ran over the jets, and then there was a game last year. I forget between two. I just looked this up before the show,
Starting point is 00:04:39 so I shouldn't be wrong, but I'll double check. No, you're right. I mean, listen, if you looked it up, then you're right. I'm going more on feelings. You're going more on facts. But the evolution of this Black Friday thing, I think it was a thing for a while where the NFL would, like, give courtesy to these other sports,
Starting point is 00:04:55 and they're like, we'll give Black Friday to college football, we'll give Christmas to the NBA, and now it's just like, screw it. We're just going to take it all, Doug. Yes, yes. They want Christmas. They got Christmas. They got Thanksgiving, and they'll take Black Friday.
Starting point is 00:05:10 And, you know, if college football doesn't figure it out, they'll take January 1st as well as January 1st, not the day that it used to be. So it's really fascinating what has happened with the dominance and takeover of the national public. I said this time and again, that what I truly believe, truly believe is that Raj Goodell is the best that he's ever done it. And there are so many people who want to take him down for some of the things that they've done,
Starting point is 00:05:43 some of the missteps that they've had, you know, the Ray Rice thing, you know, the social injustice thing during the summer of protest and all those things. but to me the real deal okay the real deal is um is they're on every network and now most streaming platforms they've taken over the holidays
Starting point is 00:06:10 they're just fine they're expanding the international games why because all of it makes money his job and you pointed this out and you're right to point out the quality of play is not nearly consistently what it should be considering what the view of how good the NFL is. For people to listen to the Doug Gottlieb show, it's a daily show, 3 to 5 Eastern, 12-2 Pacific.
Starting point is 00:06:36 We also have an hour-long podcast. You get the whole show on podcast, but you get podcast only hour. And Jason, who, among other things, a huge music fan, music buff, likens it to the Zeropa album, right? But you two? Remember, you two, and they're kind of in their chronology, their discography, you know, Joshua Tree iconic, and then they remade themselves and made Octong Baby, and that was hugely commercially successful as well. Two different sounding albums. And then my theory with Zeropa, that it was such a piece of crap and it's horrible to listen to, it was you two in their management saying, we are so popular right now. Let's see. if we just put out crap music, how many people will buy it? I think the NFL has been in that phase for the last two or three years. How much will the public put up with our product if we don't put into any improvement?
Starting point is 00:07:35 Because it's gotten worse and worse, and you can blame the collective bargained lack of practicing and training. You could blame the quarterbacks going down. But we are in Zeropa. I think it's the NFL's way of being like, just what could we put out there? when people actually say, maybe I won't watch this one. Yeah. And my point would be that's not his job. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:01 His job is not to worry about the quality of play. His job is to make the owner's money. And he has done his job incredibly well. Incredibly well. And the interesting part about it is, if you look back 15 years ago okay I remember
Starting point is 00:08:21 I was at ESPN and they used to talk about well if you're going to go and accept the money for a college college sports but pro sports as well from a lesser brand than ESPN you may get more money
Starting point is 00:08:37 but you're basically going to disappear you know it happened to the Mountain West. The Mountain West Conference you go back to the early 2000s and they moved their conference tournament to Denver, and they moved all their sports to the altitude network, and nobody watched. Nobody could find it, right?
Starting point is 00:08:55 The NFL is so powerful that they moved Thursday night to Amazon, and we all wondered, and I think it was like 12 or 13 million people watched the first one. That hasn't been a thing. Now they're on Netflix. Everybody seems to have Netflix, right? I mean, look at the Tyson fight, and how many people watch that? How many people watch the Black Friday or the Christmas games are on? on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:09:17 They have violated some of the core tenets of old school media, which is, you know, the more you spread yourself out, you'll water down the, you water down the viewership numbers of the product, if you're on every network. That's not what they've done. The viewership is still as high or better than ever. And they put themselves on streaming, which should be a death nail to those games.
Starting point is 00:09:38 And it's not. To Jason's point, you can put any NFL game on, and the degenerate gambler in our country, and there's a lot of them, or the degenerate fantasy football player in our country, which is kind of a gambler as well, and there's a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:09:56 They're going to find it. And whether that was part of the plan or that's the plan that he's adapted, it's working. It's working. Speaking of plans, I don't know what the Cowboys' true plan was. Like, were they really true?
Starting point is 00:10:15 trying to be good, or were they just trying to get through this year and then fix the defense, which has been broken for the past two years? But at some point we can go, hey, the Cowboys don't suck. They're not the best team in the NFL. I don't think they're winning a Super Bowl. I don't think they're getting close to a Super Bowl. But if we're honest with ourselves, and it's one of the things that you're supposed to be, the older you get, but in sports, Facebook.
Starting point is 00:10:45 just aren't honest with themselves, especially the haters of the Cowboys. Like, I think over the last year, you can no longer hate on the three most hateable teams. And maybe
Starting point is 00:11:01 even throw the Yankees in there. Although the Yankees, I don't know if they were a disaster, but they're a disappointment, not getting to another World Series. But we used to make fun of Notre Dame football because the hype was way louder than the actual product on the field.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I don't think that's the case anymore. Duke last year, it was an upset when they lost and they, you know, a game that they probably rightfully should have won in the final four. But it's not met with the same, you know, Duke is overhyped celebration about Duke losing that it used to be. And the Cowboys, who we've all had, we've all taken our pound of flesh with.
Starting point is 00:11:46 the Cowboys. All taking our pound of flesh. And again, it's more about Cowboys fans and about Jerry than it is Cowboys players. But when you lump them all into one, it was the constant hype machine of us in the media talking about the Cowboys because people like talking about the Cowboys. And then every year the fans thinking this was the year, and Jerry feeding into it. Now, Jerry didn't say they were going to be good. great this year, but he did think they were on the right path.
Starting point is 00:12:21 And I don't think after yesterday you could argue that Jerry Jones was right. That Jerry Jones was right. You know, they've beaten the last, the two Super Bowl teams. And you can say, hey, they beat the Eagles. They were competitive with the Eagles in game one. Shouldn't be surprised they beat him the second time round. And no, the Chiefs are not what they used to be, but the Chiefs needed to win that game. And the Cowboys just beat him.
Starting point is 00:12:53 They're 6-5-1. They do have to go to Detroit on Thursday. But after that, they have a schedule that's manageable. They can get into the playoffs. So you can hate on the Cowboys all you want, but I think that's a little bit of dated news. This is a team that's overachieving, a quarterback who's playing to the level that he's compensated,
Starting point is 00:13:17 and Jerry Jones and his staff have done a good job of kind of retrofitting this team based upon what they have. I, that's, it's time to eat our words on the Cowboys. I'm Doug Gottlie Pilling and for Colin coming up in the herd. Everything you need to know about this weekend's college football wagering is next. But first, if you listen to Colin, you know he absolutely loves his simply safe home security system, doesn't he? Doesn't he? We have some big news.
Starting point is 00:15:39 What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
Starting point is 00:15:53 But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:16:14 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel. help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't really that we are in possession of the thing, and we're still chasing it,
Starting point is 00:18:24 and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Search Learn the hard way and listen now. The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen she won. I mean, she went down in three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:19:24 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Doug Gottlieb in for Colin. This is the herd, Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio app.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Hey, Jared Smith's our guest. He's the co-host, the Fox Sports Radio's countdown to kickoff with Rich Ornberger and Brian O. It airs each Saturday 9 a.m. to noon Eastern Time. Listen live on our Fox Sports Radio affiliates or on the IHart Radio app, presented by BetMGM. Jared, huge, huge, huge, huge, huge college for a weekend. They're all big, but now you get to the rivalry games, and now we're playing to get in the playoffs, and every game becomes paramount.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Let's kind of get after it as right now. Ole Miss leads 21 to 13. Just for giggles, who did you have in this game against the number? I like Lacey over rush yards in this game. That was the one thing that really stood out to me. I think the spread was right. I feel like Ole Miss should have been a score plus favorite. The land lined right around seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:20:47 If it looks like that's kind of where we're trending right now. But the big mismatch in this game for me was Mississippi State's rush defense, which has been given up the punnyards. They let him on Harder go off for 300. And Lacey's been a workhorse. I mean, he's not going to win the Dock Walker Award because obviously Jeremiah Love is the best back in the country. But him and Hardy and Lacey, those three guys have been the best three in college. ball this year and I don't think Lacey gets talked about enough.
Starting point is 00:21:13 So his prop number at 120 and a half was pretty appetizing. I think he just went over 100 on a nice little run. Yeah, let's get some of the picks from the weekend. Okay, tonight, or this afternoon, depending on where you are, Georgia takes on Georgia Tech. Huge game for both,
Starting point is 00:21:29 right? Georgia Tech sitting there going, hey, we're on the outside looking in, but you beat Georgia, things change. For the dogs, can't lose the second one. And then, of course, you know, with the SEC championship game, that you can't lose three games. Georgia's a 15.5.5 point dog.
Starting point is 00:21:45 A 15.5 point favorite, excuse me. Total pretty high, 59.5. What do you like? Yeah, we've seen some money on Georgia this week. Last year's game was absolutely bananas, eight overtimes. And Georgia still has an outside shot to make the SEC championship if they get an A&M or a Bama loss. So I definitely think Georgia's got a lot to play for.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Obviously, Georgia Tech needs a ton of help to make the ACC. This game still has playoff implications, I think, more for Georgia than Georgia Tech. You mentioned the high total. That's because Georgia Tech's defense has really struggled in the last few weeks to make stops. I have a lot of concerns about them getting off the field in this game. This has been an underlying issue all season, but when you're winning, it's not as important. But over the last three, they're allowing 41 points per game, seven and a half yards per play since we can. That's actually the second worst mark in the power four. So we talk about Georgia a lot from the defensive side. We love Kirby Smart and his defensive scheming. I think they
Starting point is 00:22:37 might get CJ Allen back in this game, Star Middle Linebacker, but I actually think the advantage for Georgia and why this number has crept towards the dogs is the fact that Georgia's offense should be on the front foot for most of this game. I think Nate Fraser, the running back for Georgia is going to be fantastic here. Actually, the second-ass rushing grade in the SEC behind Amon Hardy. So he is another back that you need to take very seriously. And I don't know if I'm willing to lay all these points on the road, Doug, but I do feel like Georgia is going to win this game. Maybe a team total over for Georgia to get across that finish line. And maybe who knows, Georgia tech gets through the back door laid on the spread.
Starting point is 00:23:10 A&M and Texas and the renewed rivalry, right, now in the SEC. A&M is a two and a half point favorite on the road in DKR. The total is 52.5. Yeah, we haven't seen a ton of movement off the key number three here. It does look like A&M's going to close a slight road favorite. I think that makes sense. I do think Texas is playing better over the last few weeks. Arch Manning's red hot.
Starting point is 00:23:36 And really, honestly, I think we have to give him his credit. we were obviously down on in the start of the year, and I think he showed some, you know, rust and the fact that he hasn't had a ton of experience, but since week nine, he's got the sixth highest passing grade per pro football focus. He's been really good from a clean pocket. But the problem is Texas hasn't had a ton of clean pockets this year
Starting point is 00:23:54 because their offensive line's been terrible. They can't run the ball. I think A&M's defense is going to get into Texas a little bit here. I really like the Texas A&M middle linebacker, Tori and York. He doesn't have the prototypical size as an NFL linebacker, but he is a cerebral freak. He just smells everything at the linebacker level.
Starting point is 00:24:12 So, you know, Sark likes to run those RPO's and the quickstreams. I think A&M is going to sniff that stuff out. The other side of this ball is intriguing. Marcel Reed's been a little shaky in the straight dropback game, but in play action and an RPO, he's been very efficient this year. Texas is good against the run on defense, but they're not as great against the past, and they're actually giving up a ton of yack yards in the secondary.
Starting point is 00:24:34 So I could see some of that quick game, Concepcion and Craver, and Bethel Roman for A&M has been very good this year. Reed has been efficient. He's been on time. I think he's taking a step forward with his passing game. How about a Marcel Reed's passing yards over prop? I saw it lined in like the low 220s.
Starting point is 00:24:49 I think Reed's going to have a good game on offense. I think it's going to be a fun one down there in Austin tonight. Okay. Let's get to tomorrow's games. Let's start with the big game. It's the early game. Ohio State taking on Michigan. It was 10.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Now it's nine and a half. The total is 43 and a half. Ohio State big favorite in the big house. Yeah, you've got to imagine Ohio State's going to get across the finish line in this one, right? I mean, you would think. I think maybe the only program in the country that can win a national championship like they did last year, Doug, and still feel like the season wasn't a success because they lost to Michigan for a fourth consecutive year. I honestly don't know if I can say that about any other program in the country.
Starting point is 00:25:31 The wild thing here is if Michigan somehow wins this game and either Oregon or Indiana lose, we'll get Michigan, Ohio State again next week in the Big Ten title game. Now, I don't think that's going to play out that way. I do think Ohio State is a little more physical this year, and that's the one thing that I'm very intrigued with. Last year, we knew their passing offense was great. They were great in the run game, but I think they're a little bit more balanced lately. I really like the emergence of this freshman back, Bo Jackson.
Starting point is 00:26:00 They've got James Peoples and C.J. Donaldson and Shortyarted. So while everyone's going to be paying attention to Sane and Smith and Tate, and Ennis and all these great receivers, I actually think Ohio State might have an opportunity to run it a little bit better than they have in prior games. Remember, this game in the past had been Michigan more physical at the line of scrimmage. That's why they've won the game. And I think Ohio State has to be more balanced. They have to focus on the run.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I actually think Bo Jackson is prime for a big game. On the other side, obviously Michigan wants to run it. You've got to keep Bryce Underwood out of those obvious passing situations. Michigan has one of the highest run rates in college football this year. Their offensive line has been fantastic. I like the Ohio State defense. They're going to stack the box. They're going to try to make underwood, throw it down the field to beat them.
Starting point is 00:26:42 That could mean some one-on-one for Andrew Marsh, freshman receiver for Michigan's come on really strong. Lately had a good game last week. Devin Donovan McCauley's also been really good in the number two spot. Defense will be the theme of this game, though. Curry, Jackson, Stiles, Reese. I think Ohio State's this year the more physical team, and I think that's why they win and probably cover the game. Stug Gottlie in for Collins, the Hurt, Fox Sports Radio, IHeart Radio app. Jared Smith is our guest.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Town Town Town of Kickoff. I'm presented by Bet. MGM is the show he co-hosts every Saturday morning here on Fox Sports Radio. We're going through the picks of the weekend. Vandy, Tennessee, who would have thought this is a huge game? And Tennessee only a two and a half-point favorite at home.
Starting point is 00:27:22 And the total 65-and-half, 65-half. Who do you like? Yeah, this is a shootout. This one feels like it's going to be back and forth. The scenarios are actually very interesting if Vandy wins. I don't think they're straight up in with a win. I think they might need a little bit of help this year, and that's just based off of how some of the other grades are in the rankings.
Starting point is 00:27:45 But once we get to next week, I think we'll have a much clearer picture of where Vandy sits. But they need to win this game. Tennessee actually hasn't beaten a team of the winning record all year. So I think Vandy goes into Knoxville and wins this game. I do think it's a high-scoring game. Pauvey and Aguilar, the two quarterbacks, are two of the three highest graded quarterbacks in the FBS this year. The highest graded one is Julian Sane.
Starting point is 00:28:06 So you could argue that Aguilar and Pavia have had as good of right on par with where Julian Sane's been this year. Aguilar is a very easy quarterback to dissect. He's been great in clean pockets. They've got a ton of weapons on the outside, right? Tennessee loves to run that wide choice offense. That means those receivers are going to be wide outside the numbers, and they will basically make the decision themselves based on how the defense is playing,
Starting point is 00:28:30 whether or not they run a comeback route or run the vertical down the field. That's why it's called the wide choice. I think Vandy's passing defense is a little bit compromised here. We've seen them give up some big plays. I could see Aguilar being absolutely electric in this game. And on the other side, Pavia, I mean, he's one of the most fun players in college football to watch. We've discussed him a bunch this year.
Starting point is 00:28:49 I don't think he's going to win the highson, but maybe he deserves to be in New York. I think overall, though, his passing numbers have been a lot better than you might think. You might envision him more as like an RPO kind of quarterback. but he's had back-to-back games of really solid passing grades, six big-time throws to just one turnover-worthy play, and that Tennessee defense has been, I would say, below average this year, 95th in the country and pass a rating allowed, and they're outside the top 60 and explosive.
Starting point is 00:29:15 So I think you're going to see a Tennessee defense that's going to struggle to get after. Pavia, Joshua Joseph's really on the edge is the only Tennessee pass rusher, and you've got Stowers, the tight end, Cheryl Richardson. I mean, these guys are making plays on the outside for Bandy. High-scoring game, I think Mandy wins, and then we'll have some fun with the commitment.
Starting point is 00:29:30 over the weekend to see if they get in the playoff. Jared, let's get into a couple more here. LSU, coach is fired, you know, Brian Kelly's fired. We'll hear if Lane Kiffin takes the job probably sometime here later tonight or into tomorrow. They take on Oklahoma. OU, trending towards college football, college football playoff. They're 11.5 point favorites, but the total is 36.5. This is the opposite of Vandy, Tennessee, right?
Starting point is 00:29:57 this is blood out of a rock game. Who do you like with the line? Unbelievable, right? Like, you just, you don't see college totals that well unless there's extreme weather. And I don't think there's extreme weather, at least in Oklahoma. I haven't checked the forecast in Norman. I don't think there is anything crazy this weekend. Or if it's a Service Academy game, and it's neither of those.
Starting point is 00:30:17 This is an SEC football game with SEC athletes all over the field and the totals in the mid-30s. The reason why is the LSU offense is an absolute disaster. Michael Van Buren is going to make his third strike start. did not grade out well against Western Kentucky last week, and they barely won 13 to 10. And so you think, okay, well, now LSU is going to lean on the run game. Well, they've got the fourth worst run game in the Power 4 if you look at the efficiency rating.
Starting point is 00:30:39 So they can't run it, and they've got a quarterback who really can't throw it. Really tough to see them scoring much against Oklahoma. The Sooners are a top 10 defense across the board. There's only three teams in the Power 4 that are better in the EPA per play numbers on defense this year, Texas Tech, Indiana, Ohio State. So you could say Oklahoma is, got a top five defense in the country. And I think it's very fair to say Venables might be one of the best
Starting point is 00:31:01 defensive minds in the country. I think they've got a significant edge on paper on the LSU offense in this game. For Oklahoma's offense, we need to see more in the run game. We know LSU is going to blitz the heck out of you. They're great in the secondary. They're top 10 in the country with 14 picks. Blake Baker loves to send the pressure top 20 across the board and all of those blitzing and pressure metrics.
Starting point is 00:31:21 John McKear actually has been better against the blitz this year. And I think that kind of is, I actually think some quarterbacks that have instincts and athleticism like him are better against the blitz because you're not thinking as much. It's you have the open space and you're urgent. The ball's got to be there right now because you're under duress. They don't think and they just react. And I think that's why this could be a really good game from a tier.
Starting point is 00:31:43 LSU secondary is fantastic. Mansour Delaney is going to be a first rounder. Halsey Woodland that flashed at the safety position. It'll be interesting to see how Baker plays it. But I think Oklahoma, if they can get a little bit going on the ground here, I think we're going to just grind this game out because LSU's all fences and dire straits. All right. Last one, Iron Bowl.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Bama and then Auburn. Auburn, ton of near misses. Why do they call them near misses? Shouldn't they be near hits? It should be near hits. That's a George Cullen bit, I think. Yeah. Bama's only a five and a half point favorite.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Totals 46. And this is one of those Kailen boy like, you got win this one. Who do you like in the planes? I'll be honest. The number kind of tells me he might be in trouble here. you know, again, Auburn's had a really rough year and Alabama's looked,
Starting point is 00:32:30 I would argue that that Alabama stretch in the middle of the year when they won those four straight ranked games, the best stretch of college football any team in the country's played all season. But they've kind of run out of steam because let's be honest, the SEC is really freaking tough to make it through this gauntlet.
Starting point is 00:32:43 This game particularly is special. The last time Bama was in the building, it was the Jalen Millrow, fourth, and 31. You've got the kick six, the Cam Newton come back. You got overtime games. I mean, this game, like, I expect this game to be an absolute battle. I don't think Bama's going to have this decisive edge because, let's be honest, they are really struggling right now on offense. Auburn stops the run, and Bama can't run it. And Ty Simpson over the last few games has looked very average. Four touchdowns, three pick,
Starting point is 00:33:13 six big time throws to seven turnover worthy plays. So we need to see Ty Simpson and Ryan Williams and and Jeremy Bernard and this elite offense for Alabama with players all over the place played to the back of their baseball card, you know, as the cliche goes. Auburn's offense has been a mess all year. Jackson Arnold got benched. Ashton Daniels played well. And then he got benched again. And then Deuce Knight played last week.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Actually played pretty well against Mercer, but now we're going to go back to Daniels. I heard DJ Durkin said maybe some Deuce Knight packages in this game. It looks like it'll be kind of the two of them. But Auburn essentially is down at the second and third. and quarterbacks in this game. I like the Bama linebackers, Jefferson and Lawson and Hill Green. Like, you know, Auburn loves to run those, you know, RPO games to the outside, and you're going to have a lot of run-pass option, a lot of just straight option looks.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Linebacker level's got to be really key for Alabama in this game. Ball security is going to be huge. Daniels has been turnover-worthy, you know, turnover prone. And I think Bama really is whoever, I mean, I know this sounds, you know, I'm kind of a cop-out. Whoever turns it over less, Doug, I think is going to win this game. I trust, obviously, Simpson more than I do, Daniels. but, man, I don't like the way Bama's looked over the last few weeks. I think they eat this one out, but I don't know if they cover.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Awesome stuff. Hey, man, I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I know this gets to the crazy time for your world and the betting world. Appreciate you. Can't wait to hear you tomorrow morning on Fox Sports Radio. Thanks, Doug. Good luck. All right. That's Jared Smith.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Of course, he's our Fox Sports Radio betting analysts. Check out countdown to kickoff. It's Jared. Rich Ornberger played in the National Football League, host the show in San Diego. Brian know every Saturday 9 a.m. to new in Eastern Time. Listen live on our Fox Sports Radio affiliate to the IHeart Radio app presented by Bette. MGM. Let's get to Jason Stewart with the news.
Starting point is 00:34:59 No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Doug the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. It's in the third quarter right now. Old Miss is up by 11. They were giving seven and a half today on the road. Mississippi State. For casual college football people like me, I know you're diehard, and I know there are
Starting point is 00:35:26 diehards out there, but just for casual football people, Lane Kiffin is putting together the best old miss season since JFK was in office. Everyone remembers the 1962 team that went undefeated, won the national title. Everyone remembers that, and don't at me about how socially offensive a lot of that program was and all that stuff. But anyways, Lane Kiffin is putting together an extremely. extraordinary season, and he's likely going to leave. The bigger picture question here is, if they win today, they're 11 and 1 on the season,
Starting point is 00:35:59 and they're going to be considered for the playoff seating. They're in the playoffs, but they need to be considered on how and where and when they'll play. If Lane Kiffin takes the job at LSU or somewhere else and announces it tomorrow and is not able to coach in the playoffs, how should the coach? committee look at this team through that prism? If he's not coaching yourself. If he can't, if he doesn't coach in the
Starting point is 00:36:26 playoffs, correct. I mean it's hard to tell what you're going to get from the team. Honestly. I mean, he's not just head coach, but he's calling the plays. He's like their offense coordinator, whether he's named offense coordinator or not.
Starting point is 00:36:44 I do think that when in this game helps with the idea of can they compete in in what has seen as turmoil. They're up 2413 right now with 3.43 to go in the third quarter. But if he's not coaching the team, he's not the head coach and he's at LSU, I mean, again, I definitely has to knock them down a seed line. I still think if you're 10 and 1, you're going to get into the college football playoff,
Starting point is 00:37:10 but your seat should definitely be lower. But it's a classic argument, right? We all remember Kenyon Martin, Cincinnati team in basketball, and you brought up the reference of a Florida State quarterback a couple years ago. For those that say you should judge a team based on what they've done and not about what they might do with a missing piece, what do you say to that? Again, I agreed with Canyon Martin's team being knocked down a seed.
Starting point is 00:37:38 I agreed with Florida State not being in the college football playoff two years ago when they lost their quarterback. I mean, you know, unless we see you perform without. the player or coach at the same level, then we have to, because that's the team that's going forward. Is Ole Miss is good a team if Lane Kiffin's not there? No.
Starting point is 00:37:59 No, that's why everybody's fighting over it. No. I have no problem. A couple things. News in the NFL today. Mike Tomlin has just confirmed that Aaron Rogers does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the bills in Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Steelers are getting three points at home. Aaron Rogers' season, it kind of makes you think about as we head down the final stretch here. This could be his final season in the NFL. Not a whole lot has been covered or written about it. I have my theories on that. You know, Aaron hasn't been great to the media in recent years, and maybe this is kind of his way.
Starting point is 00:38:40 We don't want to do too many puff pieces sending him off. This is kind of his punishment, maybe. What do you think if this isn't, Indeed, Aaron Rogers, last six or seven weeks. Well, I think it's going to be based on how he plays. I think that's really what it's going to be. I mean, here's a team that has lost for the last six games. They did beat the Colts, one of the top teams in the AFC.
Starting point is 00:39:03 At home, they beat the Bengals. But he hasn't looked great. They have Bills, Ravens, Dolphins, Lions, At Browns and Ravens. So winnable games down the stretch, but some tough ones here. you know unfortunately most guys on that last year kind of go out with a whimper Tom Brady wasn't nearly the same in his last year Fred Farve got hurt midway through his last year you know Peyton Manning remember Peyton manning's last year
Starting point is 00:39:32 they said he was hurt but it felt like they kind of pulled him and then he started in the playoffs but they won the Super Bowl because of the defense I think this is actually very normal for the last year and the reason that there aren't the pieces is nobody wants to say he's washed up because that's just not what's done with legends. It's just not what it's done. An underrated game this week,
Starting point is 00:39:54 well, maybe it's been rated. I just haven't seen much coverage about it. It's the Texans at Indy. Now, Houston's been on a bit of a heater. They've won three straight, four out of five, six of their last eight. Of course, the last three games, Davis Mills has been the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Shefter's reporting now that C.J. Stroud has cleared concussion protocol. Now, CJ Stroud has been real hit or miss since that rookie season, to be honest. So over the past, like what, season and a half, he's been kind of mid, you know, six, seven, six or seven. What do you think about putting C.J. Stroud back in when Davis Mills and the team's kind of on a heater here? C.J. Stroud's a quarterback. I don't think, I don't think you can. I get it, that you want to play the hot hand and that, you know, when you're out, if a team plays better without you, kind of that's the way it goes.
Starting point is 00:40:54 But, yeah, I mean, they're all in on their quarterback, and I don't think you can do it otherwise. Final thing, and this kind of opens up a more broader discussion about eating food prepared by other people. Yes. Last night, the Bengals upset the Ravens in Baltimore, and they got to do that silly eating of turkey after the game on Thanksgiving, and Joe Burrow declined, and he explained after the game what? I didn't touch it. I didn't touch it.
Starting point is 00:41:24 I don't know who made it. I don't know where they made it. I'm good. I had a little pepper that. I was good with the pepper. It's an interesting discussion because it's like, who is touching that food between the time? It's made and the time it is on the field, what, past midnight Eastern?
Starting point is 00:41:42 Burrough sounds maybe like a germopoe here? Yeah, I think that's the bigger question. I don't think it's who's made the food. Because, like, you don't, we don't look at a restaurant who's made the food. But it was late, and you might have been like, okay, what's happened to the last seven hours? Is it still hot? I've always wondered if that stuff's still hot. How could it possibly be hot when it's out there on a football field?
Starting point is 00:42:10 And once you, if you have a chicken, turkey, anytime of poultry, when it's, once it cools, off, nah. But yes, does feel like he's a bit of a germapope. Who's been touching it? All these hands all over it. Gross. I'm going to pass. I mean, you've got some underpaid NBC production assistant who probably can't help himself but to pick through that as the game's going along. You got this steaming hot turkey.
Starting point is 00:42:35 You can't. You can't pick off some of the skin and eat some of that beautiful, crunchy skin. Because it would be like, who ate the skin? Jimmy. Who's Jimmy? Jimmy's the intern. That's the herd line news. Well, that's the news.
Starting point is 00:42:50 And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news. If you've ever worried about safety of your home, listen up. SimplySafe's giving early access to their Black Friday sale. Take 60% off any system at SimplySafecollan.com. It's simply safecollan.com. I'm Doug Gottliebun for Colin. Coming up on the herd, it's a little too early to start watching Christmas movies for some.
Starting point is 00:43:13 What non-Christmas holiday movies should? Did you watch this weekend? It's part of our best blast. It's next in The Hurt. Be sure to catch live editions of The HARD. Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers, and guess what? We have some big news.
Starting point is 00:43:30 What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there.
Starting point is 00:43:43 But this one's extra special. So how did we? How do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers. This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:44:04 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title. For the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:44:50 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:46:13 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. Learn the Hardway. Open your free Our Heart Radio app.

And on the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything happening at Roland Garris. Every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on clay. Jen Chinchin win.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me. And she likes Clay. Listen, Lena Rubakina is arguably the best player in the world right now. And I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Doug Gottlieving for Colin. This is the hurt on Fox Sports. radio. Here's a weird one for you. I'm not a weird one. It's a cool one. So Jay Stu, you know, we went to the Virgin Islands and, you know, you and me and our crew were just like, hey, which days can we do shows on? It was really hard with travel. That's the focus, that and like winning games. I have an assistant coach who I hired. When I hired him, he's like, hey, just, you know, my wife is due with our third November 25th. I was like, well, we're going to be in the
Starting point is 00:48:12 Virgin Islands, like, you better come up with a plan there. And, you know, let me know. So when we get down there, he had all the possible flights planned if he could get out. And I told him, I'm just, hey, look, you can go whenever. Like, I love you. He's a really good assistant. He's an awesome guy. But once you get to the island, you know, I don't think you're getting back in time if she goes in the labor.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Well, she didn't. Yesterday, she came with us to, we went to a woman shelter. and served meals and then we went to our own meal and Kendra's wife was just a trooper. She went to labor in the early hours of the morning. I think still in labor.
Starting point is 00:48:54 I haven't got a word back. So at some point we will have a new member of the Phoenix family. But it's a different one for me where I'm waiting on word that my assistant coach's third baby has arrived at some point in time. I know that a lot of people in the waiting room
Starting point is 00:49:11 there will just like watch whatever's on the cable channel that is provided by the hospital but he better be breaking down film while he's with his wife. Yeah, no question about it. He is definitely my advanced prep guy. Let's get to the best for last. It's almost the end
Starting point is 00:49:27 of the show, but that doesn't mean we're phoning it in. Nope, we grind to the very last segment. It's time for best for last. All right, Jay Stu, what do you got for best for last? I think that I saw an interesting article because I don't think this gets talked about enough. So holiday movies are all put into one group usually, right?
Starting point is 00:49:47 And it's mostly, what, 98% Christmas movies. But I think it's a little too early to start watching those. So people at the Daily Press put together a list of five movies that maybe you should watch this weekend before you get into your Christmas movies. Now, I don't know if you want to do a countdown or not, But like, I didn't know that a couple of these are Thanksgiving movies. Now, let me give you a couple. Did you know that the scent of a woman was a Thanksgiving movie?
Starting point is 00:50:19 Al Pacino, Chris, what, Chris O'Donnell? Is that who did? Yeah. Yes. I did know that. Well, I remember a Thanksgiving scene, but I don't know if it's a Thanksgiving. It's a good movie. And with the 250th anniversary of the Marines,
Starting point is 00:50:37 And, of course, Al Pacino plays, doesn't he play a for Marine? Urah. He does. His first Oscar, his only Oscar? I forget. But remember, grumpy old men, that's considered a Thanksgiving movie. I remember watching that when it first came out. It was great.
Starting point is 00:50:53 It might deserve a rewatch. Grumpy old men definitely deserves a rematch. Is that Walter Mathau and... Jack Lemon, yeah. Jack Lemon. Wow. Legends. Legends in their field.
Starting point is 00:51:10 Yes. A couple other legends have done a couple movies is Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. They did You've Got Mail. You've Got Mail, which is, was that the pre-quit, no, sequel to Sleep Us in Seattle? Or was it like a, how does Sleep Us in Seattle feel? I think same writers. I don't. I have no idea if they're connected.
Starting point is 00:51:32 But I will say this, you've got mail is very dated. Like, remember when that movie. came out there like oh oh well this thing called the internet where we send emails yes and now you've got mail just sounds like oh that was obviously a 1996 movie yes yes and then the king the king of all movies by the way um Thanksgiving movies planes trains and automobiles um you and I this is like wheelhouse stuff for us this is we grew up watching this movie so many lines I don't know what your favorite ones are, but my favorite scene from planes, trains, and automobiles
Starting point is 00:52:08 is when they're going the wrong way on the freeway. You want a race? We're going the wrong way. He wants to race. And John Candy is giving the sign for you've been drinking too much, the other people, as they tell them, you're going the wrong way. Oh, man, classic scene.
Starting point is 00:52:28 Classic, classic scene. That was another John Hughes, great. movie, right, where John Hughes did Home Alone as well. It's also also a John Hughes movie, which is a Christmas time movie. I point out, I saw the Running Man, the new Running Man yesterday. Yeah, it's pretty good, right? I thought it was good. I thought it was better than the original.
Starting point is 00:52:48 Better than the original. There's an appearance of a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger, apparently being the president, but outside of that, no Arnold in the movie. The first one was just over the top and silly, and it's been made fun of for the last 30 years. The first one was what we used to call a B movie, and it was almost one of those movies that if you watch Mystery Science Theater 3000, that's what that movie should have been on. So there's like 15 people listening this show right now on their phone
Starting point is 00:53:20 or driving around going like, oh, mystery science theater 300 for sure. For sure, yes, absolutely, absolutely. Those are some good holiday movies. Die hard. Also, if you don't want to call it a Christmas movie, you can call it a holiday movie. It's a family movie. It's a movie about reuniting. All right, got a football game tonight.
Starting point is 00:53:41 Got huge college football games this weekend. Although I will point out, it is weird that they just don't mean what they used to, right? If Ohio State loses, they're still going to the college football playoff. And if Michigan wins, they're not yet going to the college football playoff. But they could play again. Colin is back Monday, plenty of what he got right, what he got wrong. But I do think that if you watched yesterday, I'm kind of wrong about the Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:54:10 Season wasn't a waste. And Joe Burrow should be applauded, but let's not make him a hero for while doing his job. I'm Doug Gottlie. Have a great weekend. This is the hurt. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:54:25 I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast. Well, we didn't invent it.
Starting point is 00:54:33 We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it, but, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman helped make you. You funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
