Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer,
Starting point is 00:00:18 Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast. Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes. Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule. of two. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. One of my favorite people at Fox, Pete Schrager, Peter Fox Sports NFL reporters, got a podcast drops every Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:02:06 I heart, he's great, power brokers. So many things here that you know about. We were just talking off the air about this. I'll get the Justin Fields in a second. But it is unbelievable that in league history, no receivers come out of college and had more targets, catches than Pooka Nakua for the Rams. Now, we had heard in camp it was good. He's Cooper Cup.
Starting point is 00:02:29 By the way, he was not a first round pick. He was not a second round pick. How has he been able to integrate to this offense so quickly? Colin, he was the 20th wide receiver taken in April's draft. Wow. 20th. He's already become part of that crew that, like, Stafford wakes up and does the morning breakfast crew at 5 a.m., who wants to come in?
Starting point is 00:02:51 We're watching film. Nakua put himself right in the mix. The wild thing is there were scouts in L.A. who were pounding the door for him or pounding the table for him. And like, McVeigh was in the room. And they're like, all right, if you guys love him so much, let's get him. Now, he's got 25 catches through two weeks. That's an NFL record for kids.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Now, listen, here's the crazy part. If you go and you look at day three picks, which he is, and you say 25 catches through two games, what's the record for three games? He would already have it. What's the record for four games? He would already have it. So he's already got the most catches ever to start.
Starting point is 00:03:27 an NFL career as a day three pick through four games. We've only had two games. And it's interesting because you mentioned Cooper Cup. Cup this summer was unable to really practice with the team. Yeah. It wasn't really with them. Came back for a little bit. And instead of them sitting in the corner and crying like most people thought they would or being written off, Stafford looked at 2-2 at Well and looked at Nukuwa and said, guys, let's get to work. And they put the work in so that by Week one, it was like, they've got a rhythm, how this happened. It's because they knew Cooper Cup wasn't with them most of this last few months, and these guys already had the reps and they were going.
Starting point is 00:04:02 So I don't think anyone expected these numbers. Stafford's targeted him on, you know, targetable passes 30 different times in two weeks. These are insane numbers, the volume that he's getting. But he's delivering. He's tough. He's smart. He's a really well-liked kid in the building. So the Justin Field situation, I put up something earlier today.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I said that the five stages of failed quarterbacks, hype, inconsistency, mounting losses, media heat, blame, and then it's, thanks for flying United, it's over, right? So the big quarterback draft class, they're going to be six, seven guys. Chicago could have two top six, seven picks. My guess is they'll probably go quarterback. What is your take on just what's unraveling, unfolding in Chicago with Justin Fields? Yesterday it was a, it was a dear moment. It was the bottom of the bottom for Chicago as an organization.
Starting point is 00:04:54 The Alan Williams situation is a huge elephant in the room over there. And then you've got this Justin Field situation over here. And oh, yeah, Braxton Jones, they're starting tackles been put on IR, so he's not going to be available. So a wild day in the building. Now, the one thing I would say about Fields, whether his words were taken out of context or not, they go to practice and, you know, I'm sure a PR person's like, you got to go and you've got to address this. It's going crazy on Twitter that you threw the coaches under the bus. thinking, I didn't throw the coaches under the bus. Watch the full clip. I didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:05:22 And my words are taken out of context. Then he doubles back and has to address it again. And the first thing out of his mouth was, now I know your job as media is to go get clicks. And then, you know, that turns off people right away. And then it's like, here's an apology. And here, I didn't mean to say it. And you know I didn't say that. So then it just spirals and spirals and spirals. The truth of matter is this in Chicago, they were the worst team in football last year. They had the number one overall pick. And they had so much faith in Justin Fields. they were like, let's trade back, let's get him a weapon and DJ more. They've lost 12 straight games.
Starting point is 00:05:53 He looks like he's regressed. The offense doesn't look good. And I'll tell you, Colin, you don't get two first overall picks in back-to-back years and not think to yourself, maybe we take a quarterback. So it's just, it's rubber meets the road. If he wins, he'll be the quarterback. If he's not, they're going to have to look at other options. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:10 So, you know, yesterday we talked about this. I would stay with Zach Wilson. Aaron's coming back. I would probably draft a quarterback somewhere, second, third, fourth, I don't think the Jets have a second pick. I'd get a left tackle. Somewhere later, I would go get a quarterback in this draft. Zach will be gone.
Starting point is 00:06:25 But there's a lot of Carson Wentz, Kirk Cousins, they're playing the Patriots. I couldn't tell you the last time they beat the Patriots. I think it's 14 straight. What, you know this organization really well. Everybody loves Sala. I think they have a good GM. I didn't like the quarterback pick, whatever, everybody has their misses, right? what's the vibe in New York this game Jets overall?
Starting point is 00:06:50 This is a huge game for them psychologically because here the Patriots come in and they're kind of on the ropes. They were 0 and 2 after two losses at home. And as much as the Jets can make excuses with Zach Wilson or not, 14 straight losses, they have to get this win. They're in their building. And if you are this team that is well-rounded and wasn't just Aaron Rogers' team, you beat this Patriot squad that comes in.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And that's the message all week. sauce Gardner came out and it looked like he was making a major soundbikes. I think he said that the Patriots offense is pretty vanilla. Something I'm paraphrasing something like that. Then he came around back and was like, but they don't make mistakes and they don't screw up. And that's why they're so good. So he kind of backed out with that. But this Jets team, none of these young Jets players have beaten the Patriots ever. There's only two players on the Patriots who have ever lost to the Jets. It's Matthew Slater and David Andrews, the center. It has become such a psychological warfare when they see that logo that maybe they build it up too much.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Maybe they don't last year, you know, Sala got them so amped, so ready to go. It's three to three with 30 seconds left and Marcus Jones returns a punt in the last seconds to beat the Jets up in Foxborough and it was like soul crushing and that was the season. The Jets, it's okay to lose games along the way here with Zach Wilson. To lose to the Patriots when the Patriots come in at 0 and 2 and are really in this rocky moment for them themselves, to lose at home, I almost feel like the Jets, this is a must win in week three. Yeah, no, I feel the same way.
Starting point is 00:08:12 I have a great parlay for you this weekend, thanks to Draft King Sportsbook. New users use the code heard when you download the app. All right, I'm going to go with a three dog parlay pick via Draft King Sportsbook. All right, Chargers plus one of the Vikings. They have a better team. They're desperate, better roster. And I think this is the moment for the Chargers this season, line in the sand, lose their thinking about a new coach. I think they win. They've had moments in both their losses. Chargers
Starting point is 00:08:46 win by a touchdown. Steelers plus three at the Raiders. Why? I think Pittsburgh's a better roster overall. After an ugly win and an epically bad performance by the O-line, they'll hear about it from Tomlin and play inspired. Take the Steelers by a touchdown. And Rams plus one at the Bengals, Joe Burrell may not play, and the Rams are the shock of the league. If you want to take the Hurd, Parlay. Check out Draft King Sportsbook. New users use the code H-E-R-D-Hurd when you download the app. Chargers, Steelers, Rams. Like it, I love it. 21 plus in most eligible states, but age varies by jurisdiction. Yep, that's me. Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football,
Starting point is 00:10:16 or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations,
Starting point is 00:10:48 stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Starting point is 00:11:19 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because. of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:58 For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your So a lot of stuff is correctable. You kind of know once you pay a quarterback what you pay Mahomes and Chris Jones and Travis Kelsey somewhere somebody's not going to eat. It's going to be, you know, right? Their receiving core is a bunch of guys and Skymore could be something. But I do wonder their offense in two weeks has not looked great.
Starting point is 00:12:35 And that's, you know, playing a Thursday game. extra time. Is there a little concern with Brett Veach, Reed, Mahalms? It just doesn't look right. Well, what's funny is that, you know, BN and Me interviews for all these head coaching jobs never gets one. I think he interviewed for
Starting point is 00:12:50 16 different head coaching jobs. He goes upon, he takes it upon himself and says, I'm never going to get one in this current situation. I'm going to go to Washington and, you know, whether or not they have a quarterback or not, we'll figure it out. He goes to Washington. And everyone just assumes, all right, well, whatever, they'll be fine. They haven't been great on offense. They really haven't.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And that wide receiver's room last year, they got away with it. You know, Juju was solid and Della Scantling was solid. They got away with it. Yeah. And those rookies set up, week one, they didn't. And then week two, Tony didn't drop any passes, but he certainly didn't make any big dynamic plays. Like, they need to get going if they're going to compete with these big AFC teams. I feel like this is almost a sparring partner this weekend.
Starting point is 00:13:27 The bears are coming to Arrowhead. Like, get your groove back as an offense because Steve Spagnolo's defense has been excellent. Yeah. They've held the Lions to 21, and then one of those was a, it was a, pick six. And then last week, you know, Trevor Lawrence scores nine. Chris Jones looked like he was a man who cannot be blocked last week. The offense seems to get going. I think this week is going to be one of those. And I know we've got our A crew out there. I'm not predicting a blowout. We want you to watch to the very end. But I feel like this might be one of those like, hey, let's go get our groove back
Starting point is 00:13:53 a little bit. Yeah, I feel the same way. All right, Travis, Kelsey, Taylor Swift. We talked about this yesterday on the show. I love young love. What do we make of this? So do I. Yeah. I want it. I want it to happen. This is my world's colliding. It's pop culture, it's football. I love Kelsey. Don't know Swift. I would love to know Swift. Don't know her.
Starting point is 00:14:15 I want this to be true. Here's the test, Colin. Because I think the Kelsey brothers, they're businessmen. They're not denying it. They're not, they're not, they're not, they're not, they're not, they're good for their business too. They get it. Like, they got a podcast.
Starting point is 00:14:24 They got to sell too. And the Swift audience is big. They play the Jets at MetLife next Sunday night. Oh. If Taylor Swift is in the building, we're on to something. If she decides to casually not make this or she is unseen, then I'm calling the Kelsey's out. This is all a business ploy,
Starting point is 00:14:44 and they're just using her name for fame. That's my call. I think you're probably right. Be honest, I will say this, though, in a weird way, and I never care about this stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:52 I'm into this one. I've never in my life cared about pop culture. I'm totally into this. Me too. I love this. I love it. And I can't wait for the inevitable breakup, and she writes some album about Travis Kelsey.
Starting point is 00:15:04 It'll be awesome. I and Eagle love it. He's dropping that in every time he can with a broadcast. That's great. Peter Schroger. Great seeing you, buddy. I don't know why this one. You're the man. Thanks, Colin. Intrigues me so much.
Starting point is 00:15:17 She's a phenomenon. You know, she's like Beyonce. You get very rarely, Beatles, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, like just changes, just literally just changes the paradigm of music. And the Kelsey's are very funny, very funny podcast, very media savvy. Maybe it is just a ruse to get guys like us talk about. It's not a ruse. First of all, did we have that discussion?
Starting point is 00:15:42 Who was bigger? Taylor Swift right now or the Beatles back in their prime? Did we have that discuss? I've had that with a lot of people. Well, I would say what makes the Beatles amazing is their resonance 70 years or 60 years later. So whereas Taylor Swift, pop culture, there could be another sort of like Taylor Swift phenomenon in 10 years. You'd know she was great. But I just think the Beatles, I don't know, a British, you know, kind of the, I just the whole,
Starting point is 00:16:16 they still resonate. They're still doing documentaries on them. Are they going to be doing documentaries in 50 years on Taylor Swift? Maybe they are. I don't know. I just, I think she's amazing. And then she totally gets her audience. She does three and a half hour concerts.
Starting point is 00:16:30 Yeah. She's totally connected to her audience. That's what's always funny about artists. They think, I used to love guns and roses. They'd be an hour and a half late to every concert. Just treated the audience like crap. And it's like, it's okay to treat your audience well. And she's like, I'm going to over-deliver.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Springsteen does this. He plays all night. Yeah. Billy Joel does long concerts. It's like it's amazing how the audience reacts to artists who take care of them. I think your word audience there is key because Taylor Swift right now is global. I know the Beatles were back in the day, but it's a different kind of global with social media and the reach, I don't think it's particularly close.
Starting point is 00:17:07 I think Taylor Swift now is bigger than the Beatles in their prime and whatever you are. The social media amplification of today. They didn't have anything like that. They probably started it was word of mouth and then it was on the nightly news. If you love the Beatles, there was so much mystery. You just didn't know much. Yeah. It was really, you couldn't get access to them the way you can Taylor Swift now anywhere you want on your phone.
Starting point is 00:17:29 By the way, the world's grumpiest, saddest, loneliest people are on the internet. and usually you build up something and everybody says, oh, it's not that cool. Taylor Swift's momentum only goes one way. Yeah. Like, people go to her concerts. They're like, it's better than I thought. Like, that's not the way the internet works. The internet hates everything and everybody.
Starting point is 00:17:47 It's grumpy, lonely people. Not with her. Everybody's like, no, it's actually better and more fun than I thought. When we went to SoFi, it was crazy. You know, obviously it was like, you know, 95% women and little girls. And I was like, oh, there's going to be teeny bopper screaming. I'm just telling you, a cruel summer, which I know, you sing along in the car.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Yeah, yeah. Do you? I know, I know Cruel Summer. Not the Banana one, the Taylor Swift one. I don't know the Taylor Swift one. Geez. The Banana one is amazing as part of the Karate Kid soundtrack. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:15 Taylor Swift's sound, her whole album. I don't know. I just know. So Cruel Summer comes on and like the stadium started practically shaking and everybody's doing the same motions. And I was like, whoa, this is, this, I've never seen anything like this before. Oh, YouTube that song during the break. You need to get your daughter watching the show.
Starting point is 00:18:32 I know she knows. pop culture. We're doing a lot of pop culture. Nobody in my family like sports. Riley likes sports. No, no, no, I shouldn't say that. Josh likes the NBA. Doesn't like sports? How do you not like sports? My family didn't like it. My mom and dad and sister didn't like it.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Nobody in my, I've always, I don't, not like I've chosen it, but I would never, nothing would be less appealing than when I was, you know, if I had to go home and talk sports all day. Anne's an artist. She talks art, architecture. Oh, here's the architecture. your second references. She's into design, so I like to talk about other stuff.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I don't want to break down the National League standings when I go home. You don't break down the national standings here, okay? J-MAC with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So we know if your family's with you, you won't be watching Thursday night football tonight.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Daniel Jones against the Niners, good luck, my friend. No Sequan Barkley, no left tackle Andrew Thomas. Why am I going to watch this game? My guess is 33 to 13. Because we're gambling on it. All right. How about 30 to 13? That's what Kishon said this morning.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Interesting. 30 to 10, 30 13. Last seven regular season games, he's gone 30 or more with this team, six of those seven games. They're an offensive machine now with Purdy. How am I not betting the Niners? Why am I terrified? I'll give you a pushback. No Brandon Ayuk.
Starting point is 00:19:57 It sounds like he's not going to be going. You know, they come home after winning two big games on the road. They're a little sleepy. They see their family. They're hanging out. Short week. Yeah, short week. So maybe they take their foot off the gas early and fluky special teams or something.
Starting point is 00:20:12 But you cannot convince me that the Giants can get. Their team total is 16 and a half. How are they scoring 17 points? I don't think they. Well, here's a way. They get a punt return for a touchdown. Okay, there's seven. Brock Purdy has a fumble, short field, and kick a field goal 10.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Can they do one drive for a touchdown all game? So they were blanked in the first half by Arizona. And Dallas shut them out and held them to like... I'm not disduting any of that. 2.7 yards per play. No, I hit... This almost feels like, hey, let's just... Let's get out of here.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Nobody injured. Let's regroup. Go back and we'll get Sequin back with the 11 days off or whatever. I think Niners in a beatdown tonight. That's the only angle here. A better game, perhaps, get your interest. Jaguars this weekend.
Starting point is 00:20:59 It's funny. You love this team. You talk about them as potential number one seed. They're sputtering in the... the red zone. Oh, nice use of just sputtering. They are 21st in the league in scoring 20 second in total yards. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:09 And that's facing, Colin, the Colts and the Chiefs. Now, the Chiefs defense might be good. And I think the Colts defense is a little better than you think. Shh. All right. Trevor Lawrence on the offensive slow start. We're just not executing really at every position at different times, you know, whether it's the throw at times, a protection, a drop, whatever it is.
Starting point is 00:21:31 We're all just having, you know, some mistakes in critical situations. And we just got to play better and we're a better offense than that. And I think that's what's disappointing is when you know what you're capable of. And the guys that we have, whether it's up front, you know, myself, the running backs, receivers. Like, we got, you know, so many weapons. Like, you know, we got to be able to put points on the board and score. And that's just kind of embarrassing, you know. And just to show you the power of quarterbacks, I'm very interested to watch this game.
Starting point is 00:21:58 For the Jags to get it right. But I, so I spend a lot of time. time watching Anthony Richardson early because that's and then I watched Bryce Young. So I, all I've seen of C.J. Stroud is corner TV stuff. So I do want to see, I want to make a real judgment on CJ Stroud because I've given Anthony Richardson, I've seen a lot of him and I watch the entire Carolina game. They've got nothing to work with. So I am, this is a game that I know it's not appealing to maybe a lot of people. I'm fascinated to watch C.J. Stroud. That kid has not thrown an interception yet and has very little to work with. Well, what do you mean? Well, what do
Starting point is 00:22:31 me well? Why do you have to veer right to the bad? Well, I... What if he's Jared Goff? Who, by the way, is pretty good? Then the Texans got their quarterback. So, um... He's missing four of his five starting... Worth noting. O. Lineman. So, yes, he has not thrown a pick.
Starting point is 00:22:48 They are the worst red zone offense in the league. That's because they don't have any playmakers. What do you know? What's wrong with Nico Collins and Tank Dell and, uh... Okay. Excuse me? So, yeah, that's a real player. Fantasy pickup this week, everybody. Quick note, Derek Stingley goes down at practice today for the Texans with a hamstring. Out multiple weeks.
Starting point is 00:23:09 It's looking bleak. The Texans secondary, I think their top three safeties are out. Oh, boy. I don't know how you don't take the Jags here. I already bet them this week. Nine and a half, probably going to hit 10. I don't know what it is about the injuries for Houston. They just can't stay healthy.
Starting point is 00:23:23 But I will point out, Jags' defense. I made fun of it a lot. They gave up a lot of points for the Colts early. Last six quarters, the second half against the Coles. and the four quarters against KC. Their defense has been pretty good. So maybe if the Jags defense could come around, and we know Trevor Lawrence are going to figure it out.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Calvin Ridley, big game? I like Jaggs here opening a can. They beat them 31-3 last year. I don't think it'll be that bad, but, you know, we'll see. Final story is C.J. Stroud, your buddy, ranking first in all major statistical categories for rookies. But they're o' and two. He's embracing the pressure to perform
Starting point is 00:24:00 and put the team on his back saying, I think people are depending on me, and I love that responsibility. I like that quote. That's a good quote. Okay. I'm going to stop being Mr. Negative. C.J. Stroud, that's your guy. I'm not saying I'm just saying we have to be fair.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Bryce Young's got nothing to work with. Anthony Richardson has started 13 college games, and C.J. Stroud's missing all of his offensive linemen. Let's be fair with these guys. Looks like Bryce Young out with an ankle this week, not practicing today. Anthony Richardson concussed doesn't sound like he's going to. By the way, tomorrow I got Blazing Five. Bounce back.
Starting point is 00:24:29 You've got your picks. Wait, did you say bounce back last week on the playoff? Well, you had a losing record. I was terrible. I was two and three. Yeah. So this stuff's hard. What's tougher?
Starting point is 00:24:38 The stock market or the NFL market? Be real. Early in the year, the NFL market. It's all guessing. Stock market, you just buy and hold and you're fine, you know? That's not true. You're not a buy and hold guy? What are you, a date trader?
Starting point is 00:24:52 No. Can I be in between? I buy generally within five or six years, move off. That's a hold. Buy it whole five or six years. I've had Apple forever and docu sign and but I had Shopify moved off that. My son made my son was the one there. My son got it on Navidia.
Starting point is 00:25:14 It's like over $400. He wants to cash out. We're teaching him. No, no, no. The public doesn't want to hear us talk about this stuff. Really? Public wants us to break down games. That's all they want.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Can I buy stock in Zach Wilson? That's an easy sell. J-Mack with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. By the way, the herd line news. I got to show you something on, I know you all bang on Jimmy Garoppolo. I'll do it after the break.
Starting point is 00:25:41 It's kind of a funny, and then we'll have, I thought there was something said today earlier today on the show by a guest that depending on where you live and who you root for was terrifying. We'll talk about that next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays and noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app. Hey, what's up, everybody? It's me, three-time Pro Bowl of LaVar Arrington, and I couldn't be more excited to announce a new podcast called Up on Game. What is Up on Game, you ask? Along with my fellow Pro Bowler, T.J. Hushman Zada and Super Bowl champion.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Yep, that's right. Plexico Burris. You can only name a show with that type of talent on it. Up on Game. We're going to be sharing our real-life experience. loaded with teachable moments. Listen to Up On Game with me, LeVar Arington, T.J. Hushmanzada, and Plexico Burris on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast from.
Starting point is 00:26:45 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all. edit in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'll say it. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
Starting point is 00:27:36 This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right
Starting point is 00:28:06 what you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to? Do a little kill. Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J.
Starting point is 00:28:32 And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have age.
Starting point is 00:28:57 on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. So I thought this was interesting.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Warren Sharp at Sharp Football does great work. He ranks the three in outs this season. which NFL team has had the most three in outs. Pittsburgh, we've lamented their offensive coordinator and O-line struggles for four or five years. And then it's kind of predictable. Indianapolis, Joe Burroughs hurt, Indianapolis, rookie quarterback. The fewest three in outs this year, Lamar Jackson and Jimmy Garapolo, which of course pleases me to no end because nobody likes Garapolo.
Starting point is 00:29:49 But he has 10 years and 59 starts with a defensive coach, a brilliant offensive coach, and now a coach nobody likes Josh McDaniels. And his ratings, by the way, in that time, are basically Drew Brees, 68% completion percentage, 2 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio, and a 99 passer rating. That's 10 years and basically 60 games.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Three different cultures, three different coaches. He's a pocket quarterback who gets rid of it quickly and accurately. You can say whatever you want. I mean, we know Bella check. is not some genius offensively. Kyle Shanahan is, so he was probably better there than you'd think. But now he's gone to the Raiders. Three, three and outs all year.
Starting point is 00:30:38 He's got Devonte Adams. Well, Kirk Cousins is middle of the pack and he's got Justin Jefferson. So I just saying when it comes to Jimmy G. I know you all don't, you don't want to embrace it. Maybe he's just too good looking. But Jimmy GQ, again, coachable, accurate, quick release. We bang on Justin Fields for shortcomings. Basically, Garoppolo is limited physically, but kind of does what we wish
Starting point is 00:31:03 Justin Fields would do. Get rid of it quick. Read it accurately. Get it out. And a lot of this league is that. Speaking of quarterbacks, Greg CoSell was on our show earlier today. And listen, it's quarterbacking is hard, obviously. There's two ways to look at Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:31:25 he's better than last year and has been very good in the first half. Or there's what the film says according to Greg Kosell. I would say that the film tells me that Russell Wilson is not playing very well. He continues to have a strong tendency to leave a lot of throws on the field that are there to be made, Colin. I can't tell you how many times when you watch him on tape that he hits his back foot doesn't even plant it and immediately breaks down. There's really little pocket nuance and precision to his game. There's just too many plays that are there, and he either doesn't see it, doesn't throw the ball. He's not been particularly accurate.
Starting point is 00:32:07 He's not playing particularly good football right now within the context of the offense. So now, I will say, I think the commanders are better than everybody thinks, and I think the commanders have a chance to beat Buffalo this weekend, and I think we'll look at that differently. If they go down to Miami and it's toe to toe, very competitive, and then Buffalo gets beat by Washington, Washington could be a better football team than everybody acknowledges. I think that's part of it.
Starting point is 00:32:37 When I watch those games this weekend, I watch Washington play. Once they got off script, I thought Washington was the better football team. Defensively, offensively, I thought Washington was good. Good receivers, good backs, good defensive front, fewer mistakes. Sam Howell's pretty good. But it is pretty discouraging because Greg CoSell does not care. He is completely objective, doesn't care, and he's telling you it doesn't look great. He also had this to say about another quarterback struggling, though much younger, has a defensive
Starting point is 00:33:08 coach, some obstacles there, Justin Fields. I think he's got some things that you just have to keep working on. And right now, he is struggling with what he's seen. He's either getting stuck on his primary read player or primary read side of the field. depending on the concept, and he just doesn't have a natural feel for one to eliminate that and work to something else. Then there are times where it appears he's looking where he should throw it, Colin, and he just doesn't throw it. So for whatever reason, it's not registering the way it's supposed to, and he's just not turning the ball loose. Yeah, and that's part of it. I will say this. I don't think we should spend too much time worrying about blaming coaches, not blaming coaches.
Starting point is 00:33:51 these are young kids, Chicago's big market major aggressive media. They ask a bunch of questions. The word coach comes out suddenly it's like he's crushing coaches. We shouldn't go too far on this stuff. Like Brady, you know, Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, these veteran guys who have been dealing with big market media, they know how to suppress it, avoid it. A lot of times you put a young guy in front of a mic, you ask him a bunch of questions. He says something.
Starting point is 00:34:18 It doesn't land how you want and we crush him. I'm not going to go crazy on that. I didn't think he was, I do think the coaching for the Bears is in question when last week he didn't run. Well, I don't get that. He should run. If I have Justin Fields, what is he, 6, 3, 225, he should be running. So I think what he said with coaching may have been a game plan issue, and I think that's a fair
Starting point is 00:34:38 thing to talk about. Let's not protect the coaches. We don't protect the quarterback, so there's no reason to protect the coaches. We're not protecting Brandon Staley. I think the defense for the charges is undercoached. I think the Bears' offense should never tell Justin Fields just sit in the pocket, don't run. That is crazy town to me. The kids arguably outside of Lamar Jackson as elusive as anybody in the league.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Let him run. So we know coaching matters. Brian Daibold, Daniel Jones. Nick, you know, stiking leaves Philly, a little choppy. So some of this is to me the game plan last week at Tampa stunk. What do you think Fields does if he's in the Miami offense with McDaniel, Tyreekill, Waddle, and Coff? He's not, he is not Tua in terms of accuracy and quick release. So it would not be as good.
Starting point is 00:35:30 It would be a different offense. He's a different quarterback than Tua completely. All right, we're done for today. First things first around the corner of the hurt. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and headwriter, Streeter Seidel,
