Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:06 From 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:01:22 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday on Fox Sports Radio in noon to 3 Eastern, 9 a.m. to noon Pacific. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day in the IHeart Radio app by searching Fox Sports Radio or FSR. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:01:59 Yeah, think about the Niners defense last year, how good it was. And in the end, they played, remember in Santa Clara, Kansas City came to town, dropped like 30 in the second half. At some point, you get dinged up, offenses prevail. The whole league in the last 10 years after the CETE checked, the NFL wrote, has moved to offense and protecting quarterbacks. That said, let's bring in Howie Long the Hall of Fame, because I think Philadelphia is the bigger story.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Do we just chalk that game up? Jets Philly and just say, listen, this isn't college. The margins are tight. If you don't play well, eventually you lose two to three games in this league. I don't think it's an emergency situation, although I will say this about Jalen Hertz and the Eagles. I don't know, as they say, playing with their food for weeks here. Is it possible? Howie, this is just what Philadelphia is.
Starting point is 00:02:51 They're not as good as last year. Is it possible? That's just what they are. You know, I think in New England, Colin, they always talk about the season starts in November, and you know, you're kind of an evolving team. And I think that's certainly the case in a place like Kansas City. And I think when you have a new offensive coordinator and new defensive coordinator in Philadelphia, I think that's also the case in Philadelphia. Yesterday, I thought, you know, maybe it was, there were a couple of reasons maybe for it. One was the Jets secondary was, I'm, drastically depleted. You know, two great corners. They're both out. So there's a temptation to want to, hey, let's throw the ball. Yeah, you know. But you're throwing the ball 45 times. Your right guards on I are. Lane Johnson, who I think is arguably with Williams, the two best tackles in football, he's an eraser. And that's what that looks like in protection. And I don't care how
Starting point is 00:03:53 tough you are. And Jalen Hurts is tough. Jalen hurts is poison. I like Jalen Hurts more now than I ever have. And he made some big throws yesterday. And a couple of poor decisions, particularly late in the game, but they had a couple of big drops. You look at AJ Brown, he gears down on that post route. Why I don't know. And I think the throat to me was perfect. He catches that in stride and it's a walk-in touchdown. And, you know, I think it's one of those cases where they're trying to find their identity, they've been run heavy. And they're like an NBA team in a sense. You know, you go to an NBA game. I don't want to see anything in an NBA game except for the last two minutes. Yeah. Because that's when they turn it on and they finish. And Philadelphia has
Starting point is 00:04:48 finished. And in many ways, this could be, you know, there's no loss. It's a good loss, but it certainly is one that forces you to reevaluate where you are. Their defense is banged up. Their secondary is patchwork. They've had injuries at each level. And I think the coordinator's done a good job on defense. All right. Yeah. By the way, Philadelphia plays Miami. And so last time Miami played a defense that's got some talent like Buffalo, they slowed Miami down. So this is a week-to-week league. I'll tell you a team that I like and they're easy to root for. I always feel we overvalue the Cowboys talent. I watch Detroit and I'm like, Detroit's got the talent we perceive Dallas to have.
Starting point is 00:05:30 I watched them yesterday, outside of corner. Howie, they're good everywhere. O-line, quarterback, weapons, pass rush. I don't know. We were talking about this. I look at their schedule. Golf's always been a little. underrated. I think Detroit's for real. There's nothing there. Yesterday was a great example.
Starting point is 00:05:52 That's the kind of game Detroit's lost for 25 years because I think Tampa's got talent. I buy into Detroit. Do you? I don't know. I don't know who is more deserving Detroit fans or Jets fans. It's been a long road, you know. I like the way they're built. I think it's smart. They've done it from front to back. Yeah. I think in many cases, the Leporta pick, and, you know,
Starting point is 00:06:19 they trade away their tight end, and you say, well, what are you doing? You know, as a young tight end, you don't trade away that kind of talent. Loporta is a more dynamic player
Starting point is 00:06:28 at tight end. They've got the kid from Alabama. They got back at wide receiver. He made a, he made a tracking catch yesterday, you know, where it was Dave Casper, goes to the post.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Yeah. You know, to make that kind of a play, if they can get more explosive plays. And Jared Goff, what a great story he is. You know, initially with the Rams,
Starting point is 00:06:49 you know, bad situation, bad, bad scheme, bad talent, got beat up. Tom McVeigh comes in, puts in new system.
Starting point is 00:06:58 They're running the ball extremely well. A lot of play action pass. I think back to, I think it was a Minnesota, Rams game where it was a shootout out out there in L.A. He's had so many big games. And then Rams run game went bad.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Their offensive. went bad. He struggled. They score, I think, three points in the Super Bowl. He gets carded off to Detroit. And I think Detroit fits Jared Goff a lot more. The staff fits him a lot more. With two backs out yesterday, you look at Jared Goff's numbers. Jerich Goff can really play. He can. You know, it's interesting. I watch Miami play, and I, you know, it's like the speedboat of the NFL. There's so much fun. But I think to myself, You know, speedboats are ridiculous in the Atlantic in January, right? Like a convertible.
Starting point is 00:07:50 They're not practical in heavy waves. Right. And I watch Miami and they got TikToks and selfies. And I'm like, it's the Big 12. Do you buy Miami big picture going forward? Do you buy, I mean, because I love watching them play. I buy Miami. I would buy Miami a lot more.
Starting point is 00:08:11 And, you know, a guy like Vic Fangio comes in and I'm a big Vic Fangio fan. It's a complex scheme. It's one that you, you know, everyone needs to be on the same page. The checks with all the pre-staff motions today, all the, you know, the bunch formations, you know, all those things that you're dealing with where things are changing on the fly in a four or five second period where you need to be smart enough and be prepared well enough to know that, hey, this is changing. I need to be here versus here. That hasn't happened to date. If they get better on defense and they can stay healthy.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I mean, look, Tyree Kill is, you know, it's like there's two speeds. There's Tyree Kill and then there's the rest of the league. And the thing about Tyree Kill is I saw Tyree kind of, he had a hitch in his giddy up there, you know, a couple of points in the game where he was limping. I would tell Tyree Kill, why is Tyree Kill doing backflips in the end zone? I don't care if you, let's say you just, you don't stick the landing. Yeah. And for whatever reason, you twist an ankle, wouldn't that be just the worst thing in the world?
Starting point is 00:09:23 I think, you know, the head coach is a really fascinating guy. He's, you know, you look at Tank Campbell and you look at, you know, you look at him and you say, what's wrong with this picture? And, you know, because Dan's, you know, all, all beat you up. and he's emotional and passionate and tough. And this guy might be the smart. I want to say to him, what's it like being the smartest guy in every room you're in? Because he is.
Starting point is 00:09:55 He is. I want to ask you about the Cowboys and the Chargers tonight. And I said, I don't think Dallas is built to play from behind. We've seen it in Arizona and San Francisco. I don't think they are. I think DAC now, because of the lower body injuries, has become a pocket guy. It's a little like Kirk Cousins with a bigger brand. There's a certain way for DAC to play.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Dallas does not have a ton of weapons. If you roll coverage over to CD Lamb, they're not getting, you know, the tight end's gone. Pollard's good. They need a second back. Whatever. There's a way to win in the league for Dallas. But I do wonder this, is that if you look at the leagues veered to offense, and it's a lot of these young smart guys, McDaniel, McVeigh, Shanahan, Arthur Smith's doing some clever stuff. And I think,
Starting point is 00:10:42 Yes, Kellyn Moore. What if Kellyn Moore comes out tonight and puts one on Dallas and it's one of those Howie where you're watching the game and you're like, boy, Dallas misses Kellyn Moore and the Chargers are way better with Kellan. Off a humiliating national TV game.
Starting point is 00:11:03 If Dallas got one put on them tonight and Kellyn Moore was a star, does Jerry get on that Gulfstream and think, I may need to make a change. Do you think it's possible? Boy, you know, Jimmy and I have this conversation all the time. You know, we always say, my gosh, if Dallas loses this week, it will be just holy hell in Dallas. You know, and we've been saying that for, it seems like, 25 years.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Yeah. I don't think, I think you're right from a come from behind standpoint, the way they're currently constructed. You know, it's, you look at the San Francisco game. Now, one, you got to kind of throw that out, you know, and just, and just say, listen, they're a great team. They had a great plan. You know, we got out coach. We got out played. We got out schemes. It left players on both sides of the ball questioning, you know, where are we? Who are we? Who are we on offense? We weren't put in position to be successful on defense, according to, you know, some of their players. Those are kind of, I think he to the moment reactions, and I think we all need to settle down a little bit. But here's the thing that surprised me is it's become a checkdown slant, throw to the tight end. And San Francisco was obvious,
Starting point is 00:12:24 was smothering the crossing routes, the checkdowns, and jumping everything. And there were opportunities. You've got cooks on the outside. You know, you've got C.D. Lamb, capable players.
Starting point is 00:12:36 If, if Dak is the guy. that you feel can take you to the Super Bowl, I think in order to do that, because the defense is going to be great every week. Sometimes styles make fights. And, you know, San Francisco is a bad style. And they did one thing.
Starting point is 00:12:51 When you're accounting for Dallas, who do you start with? You start with Michael Parsons. And we're going to eliminate him. San Francisco did that. Make somebody else beat you. Anybody else can beat you, but don't let him beat you. And they did that. I think they need to stretch the field a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I think they need to open it up a little bit. And if DAC is the guy that, in fact, can't get you to the Super Bowl and win a Super Bowl, because listen, this is a tough game for them. You know, it could be a shootout. And they might have to throw the ball a lot and put it downfield. They've got Philly twice. They've got the Rams who are a far improved team from a year ago. Detroit, Miami, and Seattle.
Starting point is 00:13:37 Seattle had every opportunity to win that game yesterday and, you know, a couple of poor decisions at quarterback that, you know, cost them the game. But I like the way Seattle's built. There's going to be some tough games for Dallas. They need this game psychologically. They need it from a record standpoint. And then they go into a buy. Imagine if they lose and then there's a buy. Oh, you know, when you get beat like that, you can't wait to get in the next fight.
Starting point is 00:14:05 and I can't get to the field quick enough. If we lost Sunday, I want to play at midnight Sunday night, and I can't get to the field quick enough. And I like to believe that those cowboy players can't wait to get on the field tonight and play. And like I said, I just think they need to put more confidence in the quarterback, get him right, and get the wide receiver situation right. You know, they're talking about Steve Lambs complaining, and he reminds me of another wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:14:35 I had. He wanted the ball a lot. CD lands not Michael Irby. Yeah. You know, that's just not the way it is. Howie Long, Hall of Famer, as always. Fox Sunday, is great to see you, Howie. Good seeing you, partner.
Starting point is 00:14:50 If you look at Dallas's schedule, they really have to win tonight. Chargers were in a division. You got Denver scuffing. The Raiders are limited. Go look at Dallas's schedule. Like tonight is huge. You know, he said something there.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Block Micah Parsons, everything else is fine. I feel like Dallas has two star players. Micah and C.D. Lamb. Zach Martin's an interior alignment. Doesn't have the influence in 2023 of a CD Lamb and a big nighter, Micah. Cover one guy, block one guy. I think after that, Dallas's talent is good. You start looking at this schedule tonight.
Starting point is 00:15:28 This is brutal. So it's chargers by. Rams are way better than we thought. at Philly. Now, there's some Ws there. But in the end, it's Seattle, Philly,
Starting point is 00:15:40 Buffalo, at Miami, Detroit. That could be five L's. I mean, that, this schedule, I mean,
Starting point is 00:15:50 I think we always thought it was pretty tough. And I'll say this about Washington. It's very possible Washington could beat Dallas once. They are a weird team, inconsistent team,
Starting point is 00:16:00 but Washington would split with Dallas. You wouldn't be shocked. I wonder what odds are on Dallas to miss the playoffs with that schedule. Because that looks like there's at least six losses there. At least. At least. Once your business gets to a certain size, crack start to emerge, you deserve a customized solution. Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:18:18 What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:18:37 To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Starting point is 00:18:59 Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is great to be here on a Monday. Let's not waste any time. J. Mack with the news.
Starting point is 00:19:17 No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. All right, Colin, we'll start with your guy. Lamar Jackson. You've been raving about how awesome he looked in London. Oh, he was. Impressive.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Buttoned up, baby. International debut. I'm not as bullish. but 223 yards, touchdown interception, 62 rushing yards. Ravens get the win. More importantly, they get the cover, thanks to Justin Tucker's six field goals. I will ask you, where are you on the Ravens who are four and two? I'm going to rattle off the quarterbacks they've beaten this season.
Starting point is 00:19:48 C.J. Stroud and his NFL debut. Pretty darn good player. Joe Burrow on one leg. He's great. Either Minshu or Anthony Richardson. I forget who started that game. DTR, the rookie. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Well, Cleveland's defense is great. Kenny Pickett. Totally outplayed him, a bunch of drops by his receivers. Then the combo of Ryan Tannahill and Malik Willis. Well, those are the games on the schedule. Yes. And his receivers, heck, if they could catch the ball as well as I do, and my producers could, he would have beaten Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:20:19 I thought their first half was literally a flawless first half. Right now in the red zone, a little run heavy. I think Lamar has really established himself as a top five, six quarterback. I really like what I see this show. I think I had him at seven. But I did remember now, it was Minshu in Baltimore that they lost to. So if you're keeping score at home, that's two and a half backup quarterbacks and two rookies. I'm just TBD on the Ravens right now.
Starting point is 00:20:46 I need to see a little more. You always do this. And my question is how many great quarterbacks are in the league? Six, seven? Is Matt Stafford great? I mean, you know, you're not playing yourself. And a lot of times you just, you got to beat the teams who are in front of you. You got to win a game tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:21:00 You want Stafford or Lamar? The Niners lost to PJ Walker yesterday. Are they bad? Well, it was in the rain. Well, I mean, it's, you know, sometimes you go on the road and you face a Gardner Minchew and you get down. There's a fumble, a receiver drop. You're down, you know, 177 and you're fighting uphill.
Starting point is 00:21:16 They did just beat Dallas. Who would I take over who? Stafford or Lamar. Tomorrow you got to win. Lamar. Lamar's in his prime. Stafford's got two years. I just said tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Stafford looked like he would have. Well, do I get his salary, his contract? No, no, no. Just one game tomorrow. I think Lamar Jackson today. right now this second is better than Stafford. If you said rest of the year, who do you get? I think Lamar's playing out of his gourd.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Wow. And I think Stafford throws a beautiful ball. But Matt can't move. Matt can't move like Lamar. That first half this weekend, I know nobody watched it. Lamar was brilliant. And by the way, I have him like, you know, Lamar six, Stafford, seven, or eight. It's not like it's a goal.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Yeah, yeah. It's right there. Yeah. Next up. Oh, this just broke here recently. So the Carolina Panthers are 0 and 6. Frank Reich has confirmed he's handing over offensive play calling duties to someone named Thomas Brown of Carolina.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Okay? They can't score. They had 14 against Miami and then couldn't. They didn't get to the red zone the rest of the game after that. This is a team. Frank Reich's an offensive guy. Colin? I'm not saying he's going to be one and done.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Is Reich in trouble? No. He said last week he was meeting with the owner every week and it was like an oral surgery. Very hands-on. They just got rid of Matt Rule. He's not going to give him eight games. No, it's not.
Starting point is 00:22:37 He's fine. I'm not saying he should be gone. I'm just asking you. They have no skill players. Adam Thieland had like 11 catches yesterday. If I was, it was up to me at the trade deadline, I think I'd move Burns and go get two. Burns is worth a first and a second. So the last team to do that was the bears.
Starting point is 00:22:53 They got Chase Claypool. Did not quite work out. Well, I'd be careful with these deals giving up. I trust the Panther staff. and execs more than Chicago's. They trade it up for Bryce Young. By the way, we haven't talked Bears' Vikings. I know.
Starting point is 00:23:06 I think we're going to save that for tomorrow. That was not, that was another. It is your show, I forgot. Well, I would just say, now if you want. That's Chicago, at some point, I'm watching C.J. Stroud, who has a defensive coach like Justin.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Unstable organization. Battle line, few weapons. C.J. Stroud's making the throws. You can keep making excuses. C.J. Stroud and Justin Fields have the same issue. Losing culture, no momentum, shaky O'line, very few weapons, defensive coach, and one guy's throwing it accurately in the end zone. C.J. Stroud, I watched yesterday again, he was better than Derek Carr, and Derek's making a fortune. C.J. Stroud is a bigger, better thrower of the football, seize the field. We can keep making excuses for Zach Wilson, Mack Jones.
Starting point is 00:23:52 C.J. Stroud's got nothing working in his favor. Rookie play caller. Missing four offensive linemen. run game of note. He keeps, even when they don't win, he is, you tell me the boxes C.J. Stroud has that Justin Fields does it. They both have the same nonsense around him. And one guy is really, you got it or you don't. Okay, well, you said Bryce Young has no weapons. Now you're saying C.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Well, I mean, he's got nothing. At least you got, I would say this. Demico Ryan's is really good. Their defense is pretty interesting. Houston, between the coach and the quarterback, you'd finally outside of the Astros, there's something to feel good about in Houston. I really like what I see. So we had a great bet.
Starting point is 00:24:39 I don't know if you remember it for a couple years ago. Over under one half playoff win for Bill Belichick without Brady. Remember that? It looks like it's going to be zero. Who is more likely to get the first playoff win? Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud? No question. Unequivocally.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Because they're both wonky divisions. CJ Strouds is a really promising player. I was a little harsh earlier this season. He did twice yesterday. He went to about his third read once in the red zone. I mean, he's like, you're watching him. He's sitting there. It's like, one's not open, two's not open, because that Saints defense is legit.
Starting point is 00:25:14 They're going to bottle up Trevor Lawrence Thursday. Just FYI. May have already bet it. Final story, Justin Herbert, finger injury lingering, but he's going to start. Austin Echler is good to go. It sounds like Bose. will go. Sounds like,
Starting point is 00:25:30 you know, the reports from Rappaport and Schaefter. Sounds like Derwin James is a go. Oh, boy. So the line's
Starting point is 00:25:39 coming down toward the Chargers. It's currently one and a half. I feel like everybody we've talked to here on the show is on the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Have you heard one person picked Dallas tonight? Dallas is a favorite. It's going to be 6535-Chy-Caboard. It's 70-30. That doesn't. Herbert's undaunted.
Starting point is 00:25:58 He doesn't care. I just think the Chargers have better players, and they're all healthy tonight. Now, again, the Cowboys O'Lines good, so you can keep Kaleel, Mac, and Bose off. Dack, they're going to have some success. But I'm going to tell you, nobody has slowed the Chargers' offense down. Now, their defense, here's the weakness defensively for the Chargers is they give up big third-down play. Third and 15, they give it up. Dallas is not necessarily a great third-and-12 offense.
Starting point is 00:26:27 One of the fun things we like to do is get inside of people's heads. What do you think the mindset of Kellyn Moore is tonight? Dallas shoved him out the door. Oh, I know. A great run. Let's be real. He was an awesome offensive coordinator. That offense was humming.
Starting point is 00:26:42 They shoved him out the door. How bad do you think he wants to just open a can on them tonight? Oh, I know. I'm talking trick plays, all the good stuff. He knows their weaknesses. He was a coach on that staff for years. McCarthy. Could be a rough Tuesday on the internet webs from the park.
Starting point is 00:27:02 You know, it's just, it's really interesting. Sometimes I don't understand lines and I think. Well, we're missing something. I don't know what it is. I think what it is is Dallas's O-line grades very high, and the feeling is that Bosa and Kaleel Mack will not ruin Dax pressure and that they'll be able to, my feeling is Dallas will run the football tonight, according to all the analytics, and that will slow down the Chargers offense.
Starting point is 00:27:27 so that because you can run on the Chargers. You don't, they're very fast. They have two great edge rushers. I think what the grade is telling you is Dallas is going to come in here and run the football, play power football, get a lead and keep the Chargers offense on the field. That's why the number is what it is. I still like the Chargers. So the Chargers this season lost by two, lost by three, one by four, one by seven. All their games are close.
Starting point is 00:27:54 This should be a bar. A lot of times they make them close. J-MAC with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Line News. Jay-Mack, I wish you would have gone. You haven't gone up to the Northwest ever, have you?
Starting point is 00:28:12 You've never been up there. No, I did. The year after I graduated high school, my mom had some friends in Seattle, so we went there. They worked at Microsoft. So we went there, and all we heard was it's going to rain the whole time. It rained like one day. I was like, Seattle's awesome. I'm an ocean guy.
Starting point is 00:28:28 You got the ocean. And I, you know, the temperature seemed like the climate was good in June. Moderate. I like it. Now, I did read a story in the New Yorker several years ago about how they are past due for a massive earthquake on the fault line up there. So I've kind of avoided the region. Don't laugh. They've been waiting here for one for 15 years.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I think at some point you know. By the way, East Coast has hurricanes. Everywhere has something. Every, I mean, you. Everywhere, they have droughts in the West. They have, there's no perfect place to live. I'll send you the story. I don't know if you're going to want to read it.
Starting point is 00:29:06 I've read the story. No, it's really, it's really bleak. Like all their facilities up there are not updated and ready for the, for a big earthquake. And I should be talking about this. This is too negative. Well, you got America freaked out. You may want to finish your sentence here. So I put the link on, on Twitter.
Starting point is 00:29:21 I refuse to refer to it as X, by the way. Sorry, Elon. Put the link on. All right. So just say, this is what I talked about today and put the link up. Yeah. This is why I haven't gone to Seattle. I mean, listen, you know who doesn't have any weather concerns Cincinnati?
Starting point is 00:29:35 You want to go live there? I heard the chili is amazing there, is it? If the chili's what they're bragging about, I'll take the earthquake, don't know. So I was in Seattle. I'll take that. Hard sell, huh? Yeah. Back in a second, live in L.A., the herd.
Starting point is 00:29:48 Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Hi, this is Jay Glazer, and you may know me for the world of football or fighting or even shows like HBO's ballers. What you don't know is for my entire life, I have lived in something I refer to as the gray, depression, anxiety. So now I'm coming out with a new podcast. Unbreakable, a mental health podcast with Jay Glazer where each week, while we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it. Give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:30:28 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:30:51 or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:32:05 What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because. of crack.
Starting point is 00:32:28 I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:32:46 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Buy seller hold. A little device we used to give you a sense of our predictions going forward. We'll keep it to the NFL, although we watched and talked about college football. How about that Colorado blow a 29-0 half-time lead?
Starting point is 00:33:13 You know, I went to bet at half. I woke up in the morning and saw the score. Yeah, same. So what happens if Dion finishes under 500? Well, that's what he's supposed to. Oh, okay. I think they've overachieved at this point. I thought all these gibronies were betting them to go to the playoff and Chedur Sanders to win the icemen.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Listen, what they are, like USC, a lot of transfer portals, heavily penalized, not sure if they're, if they've got it all buttoned up. I'd like to see a little less flash for both USC and Colorado and a little more foundation. Well, that's the problem. Why do you think we're talking about Colorado? Because of the flash. without the flash, are we talking about them? Are they getting 50 million viewers for their games or whatever the numbers are? Yeah, that's a good point.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Buy seller hold. Here we go. Time to buy. Colin will decide if he'll buy it. Sell. Roger. Tell. Or hold.
Starting point is 00:34:13 All right. Let's start with one of the most interesting teams in the NFL. The New York Jets, will they make the playoffs? Sell. Sell, sell. Sell, sell. Well, Zach Wilson has a 60% completion percentage. Passer rating under 8.
Starting point is 00:34:27 and four of his five starts. Not sustainable. Also, terrible in the red zone offensively and the worst team in the league on third down. Offensively. Okay. Pittsburgh Steelers first losing season under Mike Tomlin. Sell. They're getting healthier off a by, and they have a really easy schedule.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Their opponents from this point forward are 32 and 37. I think their defense will overwhelm about half the quarterbacks they play, and I think they'll finish like nine and eight. Stand the division. The Bengals win the AFC North. Hold. They really got out played by Seattle. And I will say this. Their remaining schedule is tough. Two of their three wins have been by one possession. I thought they got outplayed by the Rams and the Seahawks.
Starting point is 00:35:15 And they won both those games at home. They're last two weeks they've won. But you came out of both games thinking, are they the better team? I don't know if they are. I love their defensive front, and I love Burrow and Chase. Okay, this one's interesting. Will the Jags be the only AFC South team to make the playoffs? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:37 Five, bye, bye. Yeah, they won seven and nine to end last year, five and one in their last six against the division. And here's the other thing. We know Trevor Lawrence and the offense are capable. Do you know they lead the NFL with 15 takeaways? They had a few yesterday. Their defense isn't great, but it does take the ball away. And that matters when you have a star quarterback who then gets better field position, shorter field, getting to the end zone.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Okay, buy cell, hold dolphins the number one seed in the AFC. Sell, sell, sell, sell. Have you seen their schedule? Well, it's the easiest in the NFL so far. Two of their next three weeks, Philly and the Chiefs. And they have to play Buffalo again. So, and the Jets. Philly's kind of beat up.
Starting point is 00:36:23 It's an interesting line. It's come under three this week. I like Philly. Same. Next up, buy sell, hole. Belichick remain the head coach of the Patriots after the season. Sell. Sell, sell, sell.
Starting point is 00:36:35 No, I think it's over. The next two games, it's going to get worse. Bills and Dolphins. You think they've been embarrassed so far. Also, he's 81 and 95 in his career now without Brady. And he's not amenable to changes. You saw this year's draft. Three guards and two kickers.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Bill's going to do. what Bill wants to do. Did you see Mack Jones last 13 games as an underdog? Owen 13 against the spread. Owen 13. By so hold, lions finished with the best record in the NFC. It's a hold with a, I worry because the Niners schedule. But I will say this, second easiest schedule remaining,
Starting point is 00:37:18 seven won in their last eight games. And only the Dolphins are the only two teams in the league. Dolphins in Detroit. That's it for 350 yards plus every game. That O-line for Detroit is a fortress. Like Dave, Gough with Time. We saw this. The year he had Whitworth in time.
Starting point is 00:37:38 He got to a Super Bowl. Jared Goff with Time and Jared Goff pressure are two different players. And no bad weather for Goff in January in the Dome? Niners Lions in the NFC title game. That roster is stacked. Niners are favored by a little bit. Not much. Two and a half?
Starting point is 00:37:56 Yeah. Buy sell, hold. Eagles have a better chance than the 49ers to win their respective divisions. No, because I think the Niners are beat up. They'll get healthier. And I also think Jalen hurts. Let's be honest.
Starting point is 00:38:09 He got more picks already this year. I don't think, and we predicted this, we said they're going to win their division, but pull back. They are kind of what we thought good, not as slick offensively, without Shane Steichen. They are what they thought they were. A bunch of good players, great line play. Jalen Hertz pulls back a little because he's missing his genius OC.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Buy Sell, hold Rams finished with a better record than Seattle. Really tough now. I think Seattle's got a better roster. I'll say sell, sell. But I will say this. The Rams only losses to the Eagles, Bengals, and Niners. And the Seahawks schedule is tougher down the stretch. Rams may be one of the shocks of the league.
Starting point is 00:38:52 Houston and the Rams. They've been great. And their losses are to really good teams. And they were competitive. against the Niners. They had the Bengals beat. Philadelphia leaned on them, but the only time this year that you felt like they're absolutely over their skis was Philadelphia, a much better roster. Buy-sale, hold Cowboys miss the playoffs. Hold, their O-line is starting intact tonight's the first time in two years. That's why the line is what it is. If Dallas's O-line remains mostly healthy, I think they
Starting point is 00:39:26 will run and play action pass their way to the playoffs. I think that's why the line is what it is tonight. Dallas is going to go run heavy against the Chargers, finally getting their all-line, all-healthy in the same week. That hadn't happened in two years. A Tony Pollard game. Buy-so-hold. Packers missed the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:39:45 I buy, buy, buy, bye, bye, bye. I mean, I saw them off a buy. They looked awful. Jordan Love. Lowest completion percentage of any quarterback in the league, anyone with minimum two starts, 55%. When you watch C.J. Stroud with that old line, and then Jordan love with the elements he has, it does make you wonder if Jordan loves the dude,
Starting point is 00:40:08 because C.J. Stroud, dude, I'm watching him yesterday. You're all in. Yeah. It just doesn't, he makes throws accurately, sees the field. There's nothing not to like, and they still can't get their all line of the run game right. By the way, I think it's Broncos Packers this week in a vomit, Worthy matchup. Is that watchable? It's a tough one.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Jordan Love, Russell Wilson? I'd take Denver, I think. Maybe not. See you tomorrow. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
Starting point is 00:40:45 help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
