Well, Mitchell Schwartz played for nearly a decade in the NFL at a very high level, a four-time all-pro.
We've been talking today about week one, maybe week two of the NFL.
Athletic quarterbacks have an advantage because building chemistry and
an O-line is hard.
It's skill, it's work, it's
timing, it's just putting the time in.
Well, offensive linemen, especially the good ones and the older ones,
coaches aren't playing them in the preseason.
So like yesterday,
if you go back to last Thursday, Matt Stafford, Jared Goff,
Aaron Rogers, Cooper, Ruff, Rush,
if you don't have a highly athletic quarterback,
it can get really ugly and stagnant for an offense.
I want to talk about that broach it with Mitchell Schwartz,
who is now joining us live,
the Chiefs tonight are hosting Denver.
All right.
So let's let's talk about that.
Go back to your career.
Now, when you played in your career,
guys actually occasionally played in the preseason.
Now it's like,
I mean, there's like caution tape around it.
Nobody, they don't let any of you guys who are good,
any bigs who are good play.
So is there something to athletic quarterbacks?
Baltimore look good.
Buffalo look good.
Chicago look good.
Hell, Carolina looked good, actually, despite losing.
Purdy and the Niners look good. Is there anything to this, Mitchell?
I think there is something to it. And I think the extra layer is how good defenses are now,
disguising things. And we talked about the two high shell and all that stuff, but just in terms of
figuring out where protections are coming from, we saw Drake May as athletic as he is,
kind of running for his life against Seattle. They hit a lot of blitzes. And so that's just like
almost a requirement for the position now. It's getting so difficult to, as you said, like have an
offensive line that can hold up because, I mean, you used to go, this is way before my day.
So this isn't me talking about how tough we had it.
But like back in the actual day, you started out training camp.
You had four straight weeks, two a days, pads the whole time.
Like that is so many more reps than guys are getting right now.
You played all four preseason games.
You know, my offense line coach in Kansas City, Andy Heck, he was a first rounder.
It was late 80s, early 90s.
He said he played every single snap for four straight preseason as a first rounder.
Like that is unheard of.
Guys won't even have a career's worth of, you know, snaps in the preseason now.
So having that quarterback that can, you know, escape linemen who aren't ready to block or escape these tricky looks that we're facing.
You're definitely seeing the advantage on the field.
All right.
Listen, if you look at the last two years, when Mahomes comes into this league, he's got Fisher at one tackle, you're at the other.
And boy, that is driving a Mercedes right downtown.
It's just so nice.
It's so comfortable.
And then as the, now they have to move off of Joe Tuny,
and then you retire and all of a sudden Fisher's gone.
Well, in the last couple years, Patrick's ad-libbing has increased.
The structure's decreased.
He's not as efficient.
Then you've got the Rishi Rice.
Is he available?
Is he not?
It's not the same offense.
Now we have Josh Simmons at left tackle.
Heard at Ohio State.
Heard is a rookie.
with Denver's pass rush tonight.
I mean, let's talk.
Undrafted rookie starting left tackle for Kansas City.
Go to your first start, and you were a second round pick.
Go to your first NFL start.
How hard is it?
It's hard.
And I went against Jason Babin, actually, and Andy Reid's Eagles at the time.
And yeah, it's pretty difficult.
It's not that easy.
And to your point on preseason snaps, Benson was playing with the ones at left tackle
in the third preseason game.
They got six snaps.
So we've only seen him play on the left side for six snaps.
He was primarily right guard and right tackle for the remainder of the preseason until
Josh got hurt.
So we as a public have basically not seen the guy play left tackle.
Obviously, the coaching staff feels comfortable with him playing there.
And there's some familiarity from what they've seen.
But the matchup also isn't great because from what we saw from Killil Benson,
he's a little bit slow off the snap count, isn't quite timing it the way you need to as a tackle.
And Denver's guys are the best in the NFL at jumping the snap count and getting off and bending the corner at the top of the pocket.
So in terms of stylistically, that's probably the thing I'm looking forward to the most.
Is he going to be on the snap?
Is he going to be getting off the ball and not giving up these short corners?
And I think, you know, it's going to have to be a pretty offensive line, especially offensive tackle friendly plan from Andy Reid.
So how he can mesh that with some of the other changes we're expecting, the run game, the play action under center, Patrick's the injury.
it's going to be an intriguing game tonight.
Mitchell, you still live in Kansas City.
Our chief fans, are they realistic about the league now?
I mean, we all know Mahomes is great, but then he gets paid a lot.
And then there are limitations.
You have to let Trent McDuffie go.
Oh, and now he has an injury, and he's coming off an injury.
You know that as a pro athlete.
That's a psychology factor.
Go to your worst injury.
I mean, you may not have had a real serious one,
but go to the first game live bullet.
it's after an injury.
What's Patrick going to tonight?
I mean, you're basically thinking of it every time it gets hit
or every time something happens around it.
Obviously, he's got a fantastic feel in the pocket,
which could be a detriment because now he's going to be feeling things
and feeling space around his legs that he's not going to want to.
I've wondered, half sarcastically, half seriously,
do you almost let him get tackled in a controlled setting and practice?
Like, do you have him mimic feeling body weight on him?
getting twisted up a little bit because it is worrisome to think his first actual action
is going to be against this pass rush, which they've got guys on both sides.
I mean, I know Cooper's out, but Benito is still, you know, a huge threat off the edge.
You've got Zach Allen on the interior, some other guys across the road.
So it's not just, hey, we can avoid these one or two guys and I'll make it work.
It's like, no, the whole pass rush is formidable.
So I think getting over really that first hit or two, obviously he's probably going to run and scramble.
is he going to get down?
Is he going to kind of seek out contact just to feel it again?
Sometimes he likes throwing himself into the action.
But it will be very interesting.
You know, will we see this like mental sigh of relief that then he just gets to cut it loose?
I think we probably will.
All right.
So a hard ball last night for the Giants.
It's amazing how the good coaches can harness the talent.
I mean, the Giants last year are a four-win team.
And they had a nice draft, but those are still.
young guys. They come out last night and you're like, I mean, they've got two edge rushers.
They got a star receiver. The quarterback looks good. Scataboo. They got a great left tackle.
Like, I mean, tell me your comp in your world. Could be college. It could be pro on the value of the
right coach. It could be a position coach. It could be a head coach. But I mean, the Giants had most
of this talent last year and were just all over the map. They were so decisive last night.
They were so clear.
They had such a clear game plan.
Those long extended drives, Mitchell, in week one are hard.
Eight play, eight play.
Like, tell me a situation in your career where, like, coaching really does.
It's just greater than people surmise.
I think from a position coach standpoint, a coach can make or break guys' careers.
Like, I think coaching is that important.
You know, offensive line-wise, there's unfortunately a few bad coaches.
and you see you get pushed the wrong technique,
you get pushed the wrong mentality mindset.
Like it doesn't work with the player
and he starts doubting himself.
It's not working.
He's not sure what to do.
I think the most impressive thing from the Giants
was obviously the toughness, physicality.
I mean, offensive lineways up front,
you talked about it,
putting a ninth overall pick at right guard.
They kicked Alice's butt all game long.
So the physicality up front is what you want to see.
Offensive line-wise.
Defense-al-line, we've been talking about that unit for forever.
Abdul-Carter looks like an,
absolute animal and a star. But the offensive identity to me was by far the, the coolest part
because you have Nagy from Kansas City, kind of Andy Reed more spread style. You've got Greg Roman
with, you know, a little more under center, a little more play action. I think you got
Brian Callahan in there as well. So it's this like mixture of three different guys, three different
styles. And it looked like a really well-run offense, you know, definitely more under center,
more of kind of the style we're trending towards the, you know, Janahan McVe,
Ben Johnson style and being able to pair that and you don't have Jackson DART in the shotgun
all the time. You don't have them scrambling all the time. You know, still ran him on a few
designed quarterback runs and for the most part he protected himself a couple times let himself
get hit when he maybe should have slid. But I just think the structure of the offense combined
with the toughness and the physicality we saw from both, you know, fronts, offense and defense.
It's hard not to be extremely excited if you're a Giants fan. Okay. So Caleb Williams,
Lamar and Josh, especially
week one, you're going to take off,
right? Tell me, because you
were protecting Mahomes for your, as an
offensive lineman, when you have somebody like
Caleb Williams or Lamar Jackson,
there's probably,
you know, if you get beat,
you got a much greater shot to not
get a sack, stick
to your resume. Is it sometimes
harder, though, when you have, I mean,
Caleb runs like, now he's so thin,
he runs like a wide receiver. I mean,
Josh is like a tight end with
four, five speed, four, speed.
What is it like to block for a great athlete at quarterback?
It is awesome.
To your point, man, they make you right so much more than they make you wrong.
And the biggest thing is that the defensive ends in particular are not allowed to just rush
the way they want to.
They still have to maintain some, you know, form of integrity in terms of letting the quarterback
break contain.
And so I was in a game, I think, against Denver.
And Mahomes got out of the pocket, started scrambling, either, you know, ran or,
or completed a pass.
And I'm hearing probably a defense line coach cuss out the guy I'm blocking.
You got to keep contained.
You can't let him out.
So if my guy's getting yelled at that he's not rushing correctly,
how is he going to give me his best shot?
Like he can't.
And I also,
back in the day,
I was trying to figure out how much easier it was to block for certain
quarterbacks like a Drew Breeze or a guy who's extremely stable in the pocket
and you know where he's going to be versus guys who are not stable in the pocket.
And the thing that I saw was,
I think defensive ends were like two or three times more likely to rush inside against the Drew Breeze versus Lamar Jackson.
Because if you rush inside, you get washed down against Lamar.
He's going to take it outside.
Caleb's going to take it outside.
Josh is going to take it outside.
So again, my job becomes easier because my guy can't throw his full package of past rush moves against me.
So I love logging for mobile quarterbacks.
I want them to run as much as possible, obviously within reason.
And to your point about Caleb, I think he has, what, two runs of over 20 miles an hour recently.
like he is legitimately fast for an NFL, you know, ball carrier.
It's pretty crazy.
Yeah.
Now, that's really interesting.
So if you've got a Lamar, you're going to get the ins, you know, you're going to get
the outside rush with the speed guy.
But if you have a Drew Breeze, they'll come inside.
And you knew that statistically.
Boy, that's an advantage for you.
So you didn't have to guess.
You kind of had a sense with an athletic quarterback a lot of times what you'd get before the
first step.
Yeah, because they can rush up the field, but they can only rush so high.
You know, we've seen all those times where a guy.
gets pushed up the top of the pocket and again being a right tackle for a right-handed quarterback,
he's going to want to flush to his right. So my guy can't just like take the speed line up the
field and gamble with where that top of the pocket is. They have to have, you know, a little bit more
bull rush and a little bit more, you know, tempo at the top of the pocket, not just selling out
because if they go inside or if they get too high on their rush. So they're forced into this much
smaller, tighter window of, you know, where they, it's almost puts them in a phone booth in terms of how
they can rush me because the quarterback's going to make them wrong where you know you talk about
the guys who stand on the pocket like stafford and some of these others rogers they don't have
the mobility anymore to break and taint and to really make rushers wrong in the way that a lamar or
josh allen can mitchell schwarz decade in the league four time all pro still lives in kansas city

Jay Mack, it is interesting when you think about that.
When you have the advantage of Lamar or Caleb, you know, I mean, the reality is a defensive end can't really give you everything.
Like he has got a monitor.
You can't go too high on the rush.
And if you have a smart offensive lineman knows that, has kind of a sense of where he's going to go.
If you have a stationary quarterback.
So that is the, and I noticed this a lot with the Rams against the Niners.
And I noticed it last year.
I mean, last year, the Rams lost to Atlanta and Carolina.
is that the advantage to athleticism for a quarterback is obvious, right?
They can take off.
They can escape.
But it also, it does limit certain things.
Like Brock Purdy in that game, some of the running was scripted.
You roll out much more.
And then a couple of times Brock just took off.
And when a quarterback takes off, he usually takes off when he sees like the like in man-to-man coverage.
Did you notice this?
In man-to-man, the culture in man-to-man wants.
Well, Lamar, like if Carolina's in man to man, well, Caleb William, everybody turns their back.
So when a lot of these quarterbacks do take off, it's not a four-yard game.
It's a chunk gain.
It's a 20-yard gain.
And I mean, Caleb's speed of the 13 plays this year where quarterbacks, what is it, 13 plays
where a player's been over 20 miles an hour, Caleb has seven of them.
Like that's wide receiver level speed.
I don't know if he's faster than Lamar,
but him, Josh Allen and Lamar all just move different in the open field.
Brock Purdy's like shifty, but I wouldn't say he's fast, would you?
Not like Caleb fast.
No, but I mean, again, Brock's a smart kid.
He runs when it's available.
Because remember, he's in that system.
Same with Caleb.
Caleb and Brock are in these brilliant offensive systems.
They don't need to run much.
Right.
Like their teams run.
The Niners and the Bears can run.
run the football. So you don't have to run much. But when they do, when Brock takes off,
he sees a hole. Like he sees 15-yard gains. He doesn't seem to, he's not taken off for a
two-yard game. Yeah. Like Patrick Mahomes, that was his superpower. Remember that? He's coming off
the ACL now. I don't know if he's going to want to run. Did you see Daniel Jones, by the way?
He was not leaving the pocket at all, not throwing the ball down the field. Quick stuff.
Yep. Colts did not look good. Yeah. J. Mack with the news.
This is the Herd Line Noobs.
Let's start with that Bengals Bucks game.
I love Tampa in this one.
And Baker Mayfield, Colin, had a brutal game.
Three fumbles, one into the end zone.
Here's the one that ended the game when they were driving down three.
Just poor pocket awareness.
Bucky Irving had a fumble.
Baker gave up one.
They just loose with the ball.
I looked this up.
He had three fumbles lost last season.
Baker had three fumbles lost yesterday.
He tends to be, you know, he just signed a big contract.
Baker, I don't want to take a shot.
Sometimes he views himself as a greater athlete than he is.
Now, he's a good athlete, but relative to the top seven or eight athletic quarterbacks in the league, he's not in that class.
And I thought two or three times yesterday, like he's, you know, he's, and now give Cincinnati credits.
Well, that's what we're going to get to.
So let's hear Baker talk about this new Bengals defense, and then I'll offer my thoughts.
They upgraded the personnel a lot.
And just they were winning on some twists and just consistent relentless effort, you know, like the last one.
It's holding on the ball too long, but those guys are running around the edge.
And Tristan probably thought I had let go of the ball by then.
And so it's relentless effort bringing in guys that have high motors and obviously really talented guys.
Yeah.
So on the last play he's talking about, Tristan Worf's pushed Maffei, boy, Maffa, 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
Baker had over four seconds to throw.
He's just holding the ball.
Is that the new Bengals guys being awesome?
Or is that Baker just had a bad game and his internal clock was not up to stone?
I don't, I don't.
Like, this is an eternity in the NFL.
I mean, just think about this.
You got to get rid of that.
In the week one of the NFL, Arizona looked like a top five team and the Rams were awful.
So some of this stuff is just, I'm not taking it that seriously.
Like Drake May had, was it three fourth quarter interceptions.
He will not do that again this year.
Probably not.
Seattle Cents.
They got to give the Bengals shout out.
They were better defensively.
You know, Burrow had a pick six.
Their hitting was, I mean, it was much more violent.
Like they were a physical defense.
They could not get worse.
They could only get better.
Now here's some bad news for the Rams.
Miles Garrett undergoing knee surgeries headed to the IR.
This is the scary thing.
So McVeigh talked to reporters this morning,
and it sounds like he will miss at least four games.
Now, I've never had microscopic surgery.
I don't know if you have.
No.
But I find it hard to believe that Miles Garrett's going to be.
back in five weeks and dominant.
I don't know that he's going to be Maas Garrett
until like November, December, Colin.
So the Browns got inexpensive Jared verse,
younger and healthier.
I don't know if it was Garrett damaged goods.
You know, people in that game talked about
how he just did not look like.
Oh, no, he, there was a nothing burger.
It's unclear if he got hurt before.
The travel mess.
I have no idea what's going on here,
but this, you know, listen,
when you crowd a team in August,
everybody was crowding the Rams, big favorites.
So you go out and get smoked by Sanfran.
I remember years and years ago.
God, it could have been 20 years ago with the Eagles.
Yeah.
Went and bought a team.
I think it was pre-Hawie Roseman.
They bought a team years and years and years ago.
Like 2009-ish.
Yeah.
And everybody was like, oh, my, there's unbelievable.
And they just were a dud.
So now you've got the Cam Scataboo and Jackson Dart run game coming to Sofi.
No Garrett.
Aaron Donald making his debut.
What's he going to be?
I'm just telling you the Giants, in my opinion, match up pretty well.
Yeah, it was the 2011 Giant Super Team.
I think the Giants pass rush with an immobile quarterback is healthy.
I also think Scataboo is such a presence for the Giants.
He just invites contact.
Now, again, let's say they slip up against the Giants.
O and 2 headed to Denver on a short week.
I'm sorry, yeah, it would be on a short week because they play on Monday against the Giants.
Then it's Eagles across country and then bills.
Listen, I don't think they're going to be 0 and 5.
I think one in four is in play, Colin.
I think it is too.
That's not going to put him out of the playoff makes by any stretch.
But Seattle's missing Drew Locke.
Maybe Arizona runs out.
Seattle's missing Darnold, Drew Lock.
Drew Locke is in for Darnold.
Yeah, this is, final story is the Chargers.
I did not have the two L.A. teams going 0 and 2 and the New York teams.
And looking awful.
Yeah, going 2 and O'N.
Here's Omerian Hampton.
Like, what are you even doing?
that is a brutal fumble.
Jim Harbaugh just killed the team for sloppiness.
I mean, Herbert did not look good.
I know there's a big year for Herbert.
Here he is like, what are you doing?
Throwing deep into double coverage.
Like nothing made sense.
Colin, here's Harbaugh and the Chargers sloppy play.
Deep dive, look at all.
I mean, as I said, there's things to get better.
Definitely offensively, defensively, special teams.
Don't get to get to that winning stand.
and everybody's everybody, everybody knows that.
Some just, yeah, uncharacteristic things happen.
Give them credit for making them happen.
But, yeah, we, I would call it sloppy at times, you know, too sloppy.
Yeah, it just, it was, it was the only game.
Like you could, when the Rams lost, you could say, well, they flew in 18 hours.
hours day before.
You could kind of say they look foggy.
This was the only game I watched and I'm like,
I don't get any of it.
Like I don't get it at all.
Harbaugh, by the way, excellent week one coach.
Harbaugh's been a very good September coach.
Good thing we didn't take the Chargers in Survivor last week, huh?
That would have been a big loss.
I'm looking at the Chargers' depth chart defensively.
Colin, I don't know half these guys.
This is a stunning performance from Arizona.
Jacoby Brissette looked solid.
McBride was good.
They got weapons on offense.
I don't know where the charges go from here.
I mean, they host the Raiders.
They should win that game.
You don't want to go anything.
I watched the entire Raider game.
It's no Brock Bowers.
And they got some offensive pieces.
They were very reliant on Ashton Jentzy.
How's this for Mike McDaniel?
Game on the line, fourth quarter.
They went blocked punt, interception, turnover on downs, turnover on downs.
Not good.
Not good.
The block punt was brutal.
Jay Mack with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
One of the best games of the weekend,
Michigan, Oklahoma was great.
Texas, Ohio State was great.
There was good college football.
SEC's had a very good start to the season,
eight and two out of conference.
So that's good for them.
I was sitting there watching that Ohio State game at half,
and I'm like,
is Michigan and Ohio State both going to beat SEC teams?
Like, this is a bad, bad kind of marketing for the SEC.
see, but Texas stormback and with a ton of pressure, Archmanning played a really, really good
second half.
So it is when Ohio State just doesn't lose very much.
So when they lose, it is such a huge story.
But years ago, they went to Otson Stadium and lost.
And it was, I remember saying, it's like, it doesn't mean anything.
I appreciate them, you know, I appreciate the effort.
I appreciate the stage.
And I kind of feel that with Texas.
They're both going to be fine.
They'll probably meet again later in the year.
In L.A., it's the hurt.

I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me.
I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming.
They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced.
But these aren't stories about what's taken from them.
There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive.

What I try to do is faux journal.
I don't know.
Have you guys heard of faux journaling?
Yeah, it's reading.
It's called reading.
So we don't like to use that word anymore.
Okay.
A panel of New Yorker cartoonists.
Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class?
No!
I've been dying too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14.
That's crazy.
I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday, and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark Thirteen.
No way.
You have to come to the last bookstore, though.
Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday.

And we do a little Halloween sometimes.

It's right up next to the microphone.
I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit each other.

Like, you know, I feel bad for Jacksonville.
Nobody talks about Jacksonville, but they were the hottest team in the league last year.
Jacksonville the last eight weeks of the regular season.
They lost the home game in the playoffs to Buffalo,
but they were the hottest team in the league.
And then you watch them against Cleveland.
We know Cleveland's not great.
Are they that bad?
Are they 34-0-0 bad?
Like Jacksonville just doesn't get talked about,
but Liam Cohen,
they lost Travis ASEAN and did not have a huge impact.
Jacksonville's good.
I don't know what to do with them.
I'll tell you this.
I really liked Steve Sarkesian today.
Texas beat Ohio State.
And I said earlier,
I'm watching Miami and Notre Dame and, you know, USC in these schools, just obliterating people.
And that's fine.
You know, like I get it, especially if you play in a great conference.
But I do appreciate Ohio State scheduling Texas.
And Texas last year, scheduling Ohio State.
I would not have dropped Ohio State in the polls at all.
I think they'd control the football game in the first half.
I wouldn't drop in one spot.
I would put Texas, if you go Texas won Ohio State.
I'd be totally happy with that, Indiana 3.
Here was Sark this morning defending Ohio State.
They lose us scoring with 25 seconds to go in the game that I hope if they end up being a 9 and 3 team,
the committee can appreciate the fact that they came to Austin, Texas, in September,
when it was 100 degrees and played us in that environment and played a heck of a game.
And so they should not be punished, quite frankly, Ohio State should be rewarded.
for playing in this game.
This isn't crying over spilled milk.
I don't think we got rewarded for going to Columbus last year in week one.
Hopefully this year they reward Ohio State for coming and playing in this game with us.
I totally agree on that.
I don't think anything less of Ohio State.
Folks, it's half a yard from winning the game in Austin.
It was like a hundred degrees or more on the field.
And they really, the game planned by Ohio State in the first half was sent.
sensational. Arthur Smith, you know, Ohio State's doing the NFL coordinator thing. Arthur Smith worked
Will MushChamp in the first half? Like MushChamp, I didn't understand the game plan against
Jeremiah Smith. Now, they shut it down at halftime. And I also will defend Ohio State here because
you can't ask. I mean, the NFL doesn't have preseasoner joint skrimmages. You're asking these
guys to play arguably one of the top three teams in the country. They play each other. You're on
the road. It's 100 degrees. You play a perfect first half. Ohio State's not going to play a
perfect second half. That's just not the way 19 year old, 20 year old kids, you don't get a perfect
day when somebody's 19 years old. Like they have more energy. They play the great first half.
They go on, you know, they're on the road. And Texas is good. Now, Texas did, you know,
the first half was weird. They dropped the touchdown. There was a weird interception that popped
it into Ohio State's hands, you know, give the Buckeyes credit. Guy made the play. But,
you know, Ohio State in the first half was a cleaner team.
and the better team.
But, and I think with Arch Manning,
there's going to be a lot of quarterbacks that go in the first round.
He will obviously go in the first round.
I hope people remember with Arch Manning the unbelievable scrutiny that he's under.
Now, Eli Manning went to Ole Miss.
And, you know, I mean, he was, I think the year before he came out, he was like 7 and 5.
Nobody was paying attention to Eli Manning, except NFL general managers.
You didn't have the kind of vile, intense criticism in the media.
You didn't have all the social media platforms.
If you look at what Arch Manning is going through between the Texas pressure,
the beat Ohio state pressure, the Manning family pressure,
you're the number one pick pressure.
I thought last year he got it in his head.
And I thought in the first half a little bit, he sailed a couple.
It kind of got into his head.
But I think Arch is pretty good.
We'll see.
here was here was sark on arches performance down the stretch i thought he navigated that well knowing
and in the back of his head i remind him hey we're in four down territory this drive until i tell you
we're not does it ever cross your your mind like to want to punt just so it doesn't get any worse
did you think about that no that's a loser's think winners win baby you got to go for it
sark you know a year ago i'm not they didn't hire me to keep it close they hired me to win
Yeah, I mean, I think when you're at Texas, it's the state of Texas.
It's kind of the alpha nature of Texas.
You want an aggressive offensive coach.
Like you're not going to be, that's what Ohio State is complaining about today.
We went conservative, but like, listen, you're on the road.
You outplay them.
They have Arch Manning and Sark.
And the number one, the number one receiver is Ohio State.
The number two receiver, maybe Texas.
Like, I get conservative play.
Let me ask you, though, if that score had held up, Colin,
20 to 3 becomes 30 to 13 Ohio State wins.
I don't know if hot seat is accurate for Arch, but for Sark.
But, Con, let's be real.
Like, that would have been a bad loss.
They were favored in this game.
Yeah.
They needed revenge.
Yeah.
And Sark is known for blowing leads in some big games over the last few years.
No.
I mean, it's just like when the Niners beat the Rams,
McVeigh's got the Super Bowls, right?
He got a Super Bowl title.
Yeah. Like...
Shanahan don't have one.
And it's like, so that rivalry, the one thing Shanahan...
has is, I have a winning record against you. And so Ohio State's got their natty. Ryan Day's got a
natty. They beat them last year. That's not giving anybody a pass. But the game was, and also
Michigan beat Oklahoma, you're thinking, is the SEC's two, I mean, are there two big games today?
They're going to lose both to the Big Ten. Like it just felt like the world was coming down on Texas.
Ohio State kicker doesn't shank one with five minutes left. They go up by nine. It's over.
Texas cannot win the game.
So there, I mean, the margins are very thin between these two.
That's why I'm saying I'm not raising or dropping anybody.
If you want to put Texas one, I'd put Ohio, I'd put Indiana to Ohio State 3.
I'm not dropping them to six.
Like the whole, the knock.
Well, I guess you're right.
Miami hasn't beaten anybody yet.
Yeah, I mean, again, I don't know why Georgia's so high.
Do you?
Is it just name brand?
Like, they don't have the players Texas and Ohio State have.
I don't understand that.
LSU O'Niss this weekend.
What's funny is USC has looked unbelievable and nobody wants.
Well, they know it's the same same little story every year.
And they're playing Rutgers this week, so nobody's going to care.
It's on the road.
Maybe they don't win by 30.
Oregon's been a disaster.
They can't stop anybody.
Yeah, I don't know what happened in Dan Landing.
Poor guy.
He just looks like he's going through some stress.
Well, let's be honest.
So they replaced their O.C.
He was Will Stein.
He went to Kentucky and their D.C.
and so how often do you nail both?
I mean, Jesse Minter leaves the Chargers.
So they got Mike McDonald, the OC, they paid a lot of money for him.
Like, who, that'll be great.
Now they lose Jesse Mentor.
And if you look to Chargers defense, they couldn't get Arizona off the field.
But who was it?
Was it a Clat that came on here and said this is the best Oregon roster ever?
Or somebody said it was.
Maybe Jeff Schwartz, I don't know.
Everybody was saying best roster, but my take is the defensive coordinator right now.
I mean, Boise State and Oklahoma State.
Folks, Oklahoma State is awful.
Well, they got a good quarterback.
He's really good.
He can sling it.
He's good.
He might be a pro.
They look at 75-yard run.
I was like, this guy can move?
I think he's a pro.
Or I'm taking Denver tonight.
Yes.
We both have Denver.
Is it three?
Three, two and a half, two lines on the move from the pro.
You know, it's hard to unsee all those great chief teams.
but the last two years,
they're just not the same offense.
Yeah.
So for me, it's like, oh, Kansas City,
Mahalms, Reed, Kelsey.
It's, what if tonight,
Denver just lays them out?
I don't know.
Davis Webb, really?
He's got to lay out spags his defense?
