In week seven, the Washington commander said, Taylor Heineke, you bounced around. We're going to give you the starting role. He's played seven games. He's won five. He's tied one.

And here's a stat for you. a beer at a bar over this trivia. He's the first starting quarterback in league history to beat a reigning MVP Aaron Rogers and a team 8-0 or better Eagles in the same season. He'll be a free agent at the end. I have had my doubts on Taylor Heineke, but he's winning, and there's his dog Mando with him. So let's start with this. You're the kind of guy, maybe a little small, you don't get the love, you go undrafted. Does that fuel you all the critics? it does. You know, I've been hearing it my whole life, actually.

You know, I was in high school. I was told I was too small to go to a big school. So I went to ODAU. You know, I put some good numbers there. And then same thing with the NFL when I was coming out. I was too small to make it in this league. And, you know, I just kept my nose down, kept on working hard. And, you know, here we are.

So it's been a crazy ride, but it's been a lot of fun. You obviously have talent. You don't win five games out of seven in the NFL without talent. If I said to you, okay, Taylor, don't be humble for one second. What do you think you're better at that people miss? I don't know. I don't think it's anything tangible.

I think it's the things that you kind of can't see. I grew up watching Brett Farr. And the way he played the game, how much love he had for the game, how much passion he had, the amount of fun that he had, I grew up watching that. So every time I step in that football field, I feel like it might be my last play, my last game. So I got there and just have fun and leave it all out there.

So that's kind of how I go about business, and it works out pretty well for me. Well, we've said this, especially J. Mack. He said Washington's got real talent. Terry McLaurin may be the most underrated player in the league. When you're a teammate of him, he wasn't a first round pick. He is just a great playmaker. You know, if I'd never seen Terry McLauran play, tell me how the chemistry works and your thoughts on him. Yeah, he's your pros.

pro. He carries himself in a very professional way. You know, he comes in. You know how receivers are sometimes. They're a little diva-ish, and he's not that way at all. So when you have a guy like that, to be the leader of your receiving core, the leader of that room, it just trickles down. And everyone kind of, you know, gets behind him in that way. So, you know, he's one of those guys that's not, he's never, you know, upset. The ball's not coming to him. He just wants an opportunity to make plays. And he continues to do that. So I'm very glad he's, on our team. Ron Rivera, defensive coach. You used to be a Patriot defensive coach. These guys do not like mistakes. They're very conservative. Is there ever a time you go to Ron and say, Ron,

lighten up, baby, let me roll it out and make a play. You know, when we get those two-minute situations at the end, that's where, you know, I get my chance. So there's been plenty of those opportunities in the last couple years. And, you know, when we get those two-minute situations, That's when you kind of see special things happen. And, you know, late in the games, and we need third down conversions. Again, Terry keeps showing up, whether it's Indy, Green Bay. I can go, you know, through all the games in the last two years. But, you know, I'm just happy to be here.

I'm not going to pressure, you know, Coach Rivera to let me do my thing. Now, this is the biggest game in your life in the NFL, in my opinion. You face the Giants. This is a division game. You guys have a chance to get into the playoffs. I mean, be honest about it. Are you sleeping as well? Do you feel how big this game is?

Yeah. You know, obviously this is almost kind of an early playoff game. And the guys feel it, and they're excited for it. You know, we'll be on primetime. These are the games that you dream about as a kid. So, you know, the guys are really excited about it. You know, we feel comfortable. You know, obviously we've been on the roll last, you know, six, seven weeks.

So, you know, we had a nice little buy this past week. Get everyone rested up. And, you know, we're ready for Sunday night. It's going to be a fun one. You were at one point a backup quarterback for the St. Louis battle hawks of the XFL. So I want you to take. me there, and that's true. Was there ever a moment, Taylor, where you gave up on the dream and you just, you ever drive home one day and think, I'm not going to get there? No, there really

never was a time like that. Obviously, I get to the XFL and I had every intention on starting, and that wasn't the case. And from that point forward, you know, there was two options I could, I can go with. I could help Jordan Teammu try and be, you know, the best quarterback he could be at that time, or I could really shut it down and be bitter. And I, I, I, chose, you know, I chose the former. You know, I found a lot of joy in trying to help those guys get better as well. So, you know, really when, when COVID happened and the XFL got canceled, that's when I kind of felt like I needed to try and find the next step in life and actually call it, Coach Scott Turner asking if he had any coaching opportunities

available. And he said, I need to go to school first and just don't give up in football just yet. You know, with COVID and injuries, just never know what's going to happen. So, you know, sure enough, next you know, I'm playing in the playoffs against Tom Brady. and playing pretty well. For the record, you were in New England for a spell with Josh and Tom, and then you're with Carson Wentz, and now you've supplanted him, which is, you know, it's kind of different. When you had to kind of supplant him as the starter, is it weird in the room? Is it an odd feeling?

How do you make that work? Yeah, you know, again, kind of like I said earlier, there's two ways to go about it. It could have gotten really weird or, you know, we can, you know, put our heads together and try and work this thing out. So, you know, when Rivera came out and said I'll be starting, you know, going forward, I felt like I needed to sit down and talk to Carson. And we had a good talk. We sat down in the locker and talked about 10 minutes. And, you know, we have a great relationship. So it's been a great, it's been a great room. He's been helping me out a lot, you know, in any way he can. And he sees a lot of stuff I don't see. So, you know, we work

really well together. And I told him, hey, man, you know, I'm six foot, two, hundred pounds and you got the 300-pound guys hit me, you know, next thing you know, I might be hurt and you might be back in there. So, you know, let's keep working hard and see where this team can go. All right. You've got a gorgeous dog, Black Lab in front of Mando. You're very involved with the commander's canine for Warriors partnership. What is that, Taylor? So Mando's is a military service dog and, you know, a couple of stats here. You know, there's 22 veterans a day that take their life. And Mando is going to be a dog that, the, help, you know, fix that.

He's going to save some veterans' lives here soon. So it's always nice when he's at the facility. You know, all the players get happy when we go out of the practicing museum. So, you know, he's a joy to be around and he has a, you know, a bright future ahead of him. So you threw for three, if I recall, you threw for like 350 yards against Brady, didn't you? You had a big, you had a big, it's pretty big. Something like that. Yeah.

I mean, I'd be honest, it old dominion, did you ever throw for 350 yards? yeah I actually threw for a 731 game yeah we were down 24 nothing pretty early in the first quarter there and you know my OC at the time he said we're going to throw the ball every single play from here on out and I thought he was joking and 79 passes later we were winning 64 61 and my head coach first thing he says me after the game is you had 24 in completions what's going on

so we had a lot of fun down there yeah Drew Breeze by the way as a similar story Drew Breeze, undersized, didn't get offered by Texas, goes to Purdue, you know, and you and Drew about the same stature. And then he goes and plays a night game in Wisconsin, and he's like, oh, it's a beautiful Camp Randall, and everybody overlooked him. And he threw for a zillion yards. So I apologize.

You know, Drew Breed, for not knowing your old Dominion stats, but Drew Brees, you got a little Drew Breeze, right? Size, accurate, move okay. You're younger than him, obviously. but Drew moved better when he was younger. Have you ever looked at him as kind of a comp? Yeah, you know, kind of growing up again. Like I watched Brett Farronier-Rodgers, you know, being a Packer fan.

And then, you know, when I started getting the college, I started looking at quarterbacks I could try and emulate. And Russell Wilson was one. And Drew Breeze was the other one. So those two guys that really watched, you know, heavily throughout college and see what they did well, see what, you know, if there's any part of their game that I could pick up. And, you know, I continue to try and do that.

There's a lot of parts of my game. I like to polish up, and those two guys are definitely guys I watch. All right. Giants and the Commanders. Mando, you're great. Great-looking dogs. Taylor, thank you for being part of that program, and good luck to you. All right.

No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Let's start with Taylor Heineke's former playoff opponent. Tom Brady, set to become a free agent at the end of the year. Number of potential destinations for him, and Rob Grunkowski's chiming in now, says despite Leonecke's leaving the Patriots a few seasons ago, New England would welcome Brady back. Here's Grunk. If Tom really wanted to, I'm sure that it would be all open arms to go back to New England. I would just have to say all parties would need to want it. But he has that opportunity to go wherever he would love to go. It's Tom Brady. If he wanted to go back home to the Niners, I'm sure they would be open. If he 100% wants to stay in Tampa, those doors would be wide open.

It's all on him. I don't think, I'm going to be dead serious here. I don't think that. I know this opinion is not shared by anybody else. I don't think he wants New England. I don't think they want Brady. Yeah. That should be obvious. Now, it will be pointed out that.

But I don't think Belichick wants him either. Giselle was the one who was complaining to the owner about Belichick. Maybe now the divorce is over. Tom's a different person. But they would have to pay their quarterback more than they're paying the young guys. Remember Mac Jones rookie deal, Bailey Zappy rookie deal. Tom Brady's going to make more than those guys. So, yeah, I'm with you.

I don't think Patriots make sense. I don't, for either side. Yeah. Yeah. Next up, boy, people are going to be upset. We keep talking about the New York Jets. Zach Wilson moved up on the depth chart to second string earlier this week. Despite not starting the last three games, Wilson still believes he can become the Jets franchise quarterback.

Here's what Zach, the backup, had to say. Still feel like you're the future here, Zach? Yeah, I definitely believe in myself. You know, of course, I have all the confidence in the world. and I think that's how it should be, but you know, you've got to be able to prove that. Do you expect to play again this season? I hope so, I mean, but that's not up to me. And so, you know, like I said, it's control what you can

and having that mindset of each and every day trying to attack the day and get after it and try and improve. Good answers, right? Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's figured the podium out. It's tough on a young guy, man. Does he or does he not? Look so young. Me, he is?

He looks so... I won't say the guy's name, but a guest here this week said to us that Zach Wilson looks very Disney. And I just started cracking up when I heard that. Because he looks like one of these Disney characters in a movie. Yeah, like... Zach Efron, kind of. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

He's very, very young. He's got a really good arm. It's not easy, man. Listen, I've driven through Provo, beautiful part of the country, BYU. You, um, great little program there. It's not a shot at it. I've watched BYU games, you know, since I was a kid. I remember when they won the national title, the Holiday Bowl over Michigan.

So it's a good program, but it is a big leap. to go from that town, that place, that structure to New York with a very hostile... Oh, they're looking for negativity in New York. New York and Boston are different. In Boston, they pretend they like you initially, but the minute you leave, Brady, Ted Williams, Manny, they put dirt on you. They're just so angry in Boston. New York is hard to penetrate for a year, but once New York loves you, you're in forever.

Parcells, Joe Torrey, Eli Manning, Derek Jeter. That's why I prefer New York over Boston. Boston pretends like they like you. You can bring them championship and titles, but they're so crusty and political and angry the minute you leave, you're a bad guy. That's just a couple reasons why New York destroys Boston. But New Yorkers, it's hard to penetrate,

but once you do and they feel like you had their back, they'll love you for life. They'll defend you forever. New Yorkers are great that way, But it's hard. You know, it takes you. But listen, first couple of years for Eli, talk radio was not Eli's friend.

They were crushing it. I can relate to Zach. I got elevated to this show. I've been on every show at this network. Once you get here, you're getting, I mean, the radio interviews are coming in, the podcast. And I got to watch what I say. It's not always easy sledding.

Now that I'm so high profile, it's like, oh, got to watch my P's and Q's. I don't want to anger the guys on the fifth floor. That's right. A lot of power up there. Yeah, finally. 49ers Seahawks tonight. Colin. This is a tough read, man.

Adam Schefter says he is going to suit up and start Josh Johnson, who's like, what, 36 and played for like 15 teams waiting in the wings. Seahawks, they are skitting. I don't usually wear sweaters, but you know what? I was in the mood. J. Mac? Now, J. Mack, he's going out tonight. I can't believe your wife let you go out Thursday night partying. Stop it, stop it. I'm not a partying Thursday night guy during NFL season. But you have buddies.

So the flu, I'm home alone. I'm going to meet Ann here in a few days. And so I was going to go out last night, but I'm sitting there reading a story on like CNN. and they're like the flu is ravaging the country. And then I went to a local story in like the LA Times or something. Apparently the flu is just taking over Los Angeles in California so much so. Yeah, my kids have a little cold, but we tried to get some cold medicine for them at the CVS, Walgreens.

All of it wiped out. You can't find anything. So I sat home. Didn't you get a flu shot, though? I've never had a flu shot in my life. I got the vaccine. So I'm impervious to. Now, flu shot doesn't mean you can't get it.

It just means you get less of it. Right. Well, I get like none of it. By the way, I played soccer for 90 minutes last night. I got the World Cup bug, so I'm playing soccer with some guys. Awesome. Like 45 degrees. Do you ever take a night off, hang out?

You should try it sometime. I'll do that when I'm dead. A lot of time to sleep then. Yes. All right, Vaughn Miller. We're waiting for Vaughn Miller around the corner. It's interesting. Vaughn Miller, you know, he played like Texas A&M.

He's a ram, and now he's up in Buffalo. So years ago, my wife was in kind of a human resources job. And she was doing some hiring. And she used to travel to kind of the, you know, like Syracuse, Buffalo, like Rochester. This wasn't exactly the Sunbelt. It was a lot of these, you know, aging American cities, right? Manufacturing cities in Cleveland and all these cities. And my wife always said, Buffalo had the nicest people on the face of the earth. She said she loved hiring people from Buffalo. They worked hard. No guff, head down, always grateful, humble, put in the hours.

And I said, my takeaway is it's the weather, is that we're all soft out here in the warm weather, is that the weather you become very appreciative of a sunny day in February or March. And so the weather has a lot to do with it. And I remember years ago, Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian used to say he called it the comedy jet stream, Seattle, Minneapolis, Boston, New York. The further south you get, the less funny it gets. Because when you're in these Seatles and Detroit's and Minneapolis, Boston, the weather beats the heck out of you. You're indoors a lot.

You're so appreciative when somebody comes up and visits you in a funny guy or a concert. And he said, Jerry called it the comedy jet stream. and actually came home one time. I was like, I could live up here. I was like, I'm not going there. No disrespect to Buffalo. I can't handle six months of winter. No, I don't. That's crazy, Colin, come on. Here's something, you know, we argue and we make predictions on this show. But if you want to know

the best roster, so before the season, I had said I thought Buffalo had the best roster in the NFL. So they went out and got Vaughn Miller. And you're like at some point, I don't love their offensive line. And they've had some injuries, but it's a great roster. But think about this. If Josh Allen didn't play and they were on the road against Miami,

Miami would be favored to win that game. And Miami is a pretty good team, not a great team. Seattle at home is a pretty good team. The Niners are on. if Brock Purdy was not going to play. The line didn't move. The Niners are a three-point favorite in Seattle against a pretty good team. The Niners have the best roster in the league.

Even Buffalo. I mean, because I think Miami, if you go look at Miami in Seattle, they're pretty good teams. Both will battle to the final week to get into the playoffs. Neither has what we consider a Joe Burrow, Mahomes, Allen, Herbert level quarterback. One has a legendary defensive coach. One has a clever offensive coach.

Both have a star receiver, D.K. Metcalfe Tyreek Hill. Both have a now great left tackle. Miami's is a veteran, rookie for Seattle. Both have better than average running backs. Very good tied end. Mike Gaseki, Noah Fant. Both defenses are a little bit in a rebuild. Bobby Wagner left.

So Vaughn Miller is now joining us. Two rings. All decade team. years. He's now in rehab. So let me ask you. Last time I saw you, you didn't see me. You were at Wally's in Santa Monica after the Super Bowl having a big party. And I walked by and I was going to say hi, but you were having too much fun. I moved it by. So you go from Santa Monica, L.A. Thousand Oaks, beautiful weather to Buffalo. And all I've ever heard about Buffalo is that it's the nicest people in America. Tell me about Buffalo. They were not lying. Buffalo definitely has

You know, some of the nicest people in America and some great food. You know, L.A. is L.A. and the things they make L.A. special or what make L.A. special. You know, from the clubs to, like, you know, Wollies and Delilah's and nice guy and, you know, all of those spots. You know, Buffalo doesn't have that. But what we do have are great people. I'm here at the Buffalo Bios organization. You know, everybody cares about football. The same way that the Rams organization cared about football.

So they have similarities in that in that area. Coach McDermott only cares about winning. Coach McVey only cared about winning. You know, we're not in Calabasasas. We're in Orchard Park. You know, it's snowy, it's cold. But if you really want to play football, if you really love football, if you want to win, if you want another opportunity to go to the Super Bowl multiple times,

Buffalo is the place to be. So you were on this Rams team. You came in, you were inserted, started getting like eight, nine sacks, and 12 games. You felt the momentum building. Now you're with Buffalo, though you were hurt. hurt, again, this is a wildly talented team. When you look at the Rams and the Bills, are they similar? Do they have the same kind of cultural feel in terms of talent and ascension toward a Super Bowl?

Player-wise, player-wise, two totally different teams, two totally different makeups. But, you know, culture-wise, infrastructure-wise, yes, man, that's so similar, man. You know, from Coach McDermey to Coach McVe, of course, Coach McVeigh, there's nobody like Coach McVe. Nobody like Coach McDermott, but they're similar in wanting to win. You know, Les Need is all about winning, getting guys in here that want to win. Brandon Bean is the same exact way. You know, from Kelsey, you know, here with the Buffalo Bills and Sophie with the Los Angeles rounds, you know, they help without their players to put them in great positions to win.

And it's so similar, like, it's scary, you know, off the field. But two totally different makeups. One team has Aaron Donald. Another team has Josh Allen. So, you know, they both have Hall of Fame players. But when it comes to guys on the field, two totally different makeups of the team. But outside of the football field, man, it's all love. And they want to put their players in positions to win for sure.

Have you ever seen a quarterback like Josh Allen? What do you make of him? No, Josh Allen is a creature. He's one of one. I've been around great quarterbacks before. I've been around a Hall of Fame Super Bowl winning quarterbacks before from, you know, Matthew Stafford to Peyton Manning. And, you know, he's similar to Payton when it comes to, you know,

humor-wise. But, you know, everybody's totally different. Josh is really like the Will Ferrell of quarterbacks. Like if they made a movie and they had like a football movie and it was Josh, like Will Ferrell has to play Josh Allen. He's so lighthearted, man. He doesn't take anything serious. And I think that, you know, his teammates and everybody around,

they love him from that because it's Josh Allen. He's such a huge figure. But when you get in a locker room, when you get on the football field with him, like, he's all about winning. He's all about having fun. He's all about being one of the guys, man. It's refreshing. And I can speak for my teammates in that. Okay, it's going to be cold in Buffalo, and here come the Miami Dolphins.

How do you think they'll react to what will be a charming December night in Buffalo? I mean, I don't think it would be nothing that they're not used to. They're playing the AFC East. They're playing the Patriots. They're playing the Jets. You know, they play the Buffalo Bios, you know, twice a year. There's nothing that, you know, in the NFL, you're going to have to play some cold games. You know, and some teams get more cold games than other,

but every single team on the schedule is going to play in a cold game, maybe even one or two cold games that season. Yeah. You know, this week is no different. So I think the Miami Dolphins will be ready. I think we'll be ready as well, and it'll be a really good game come Saturday night. But I do think it's an advantage for Vaughn the Bills. It is harder to play in cold weather, and I do think it's.

toughens you up. I mean, have you noticed that that you can deal with stuff now? You guys practice in cold weather. You walk around to the grocery store in cold weather. Yeah. Yeah, it's different for me because I was in Denver. And, you know, Denver is cold as well. But it's nothing like Buffalo.

You know, Buffalo is cold, plus it's raining, plus it's windy. You know, plus, you know, you've got the fans right here all on your back. And when you drive it and when you land at the airport in Orchard Park, you know you're at Orchard Park. We live here. We're used to this. We know it's all about football here. But coming from Miami and Atlanta, Orchard Park, I feel like that has, you know, more effect on guys than, you know, the actual cold or the game. You know, it's just such a culture shock.

It's different. All we care about is football, winning games. We love the Sabres as well. We have really good wings. And we have really good people. And that is it. And that's all we care about. Doritos, you're partnering with them.

Name that triangle contest. What is it? You know, so my own haircut, you know, caught the eye of Doritos and we partnered to create this name, name my triangle, name your triangle, campaign. And it's super cool. You know, it gives fans, you know, the opportunity to swag got their own triangle. It gives them the opportunity to give their own personal take on my haircut.
